2. We are going to read pages 245 to 247 of the book.
We will take notes along the way examining the people who
take care of local issues, as opposed to country wide taxes
and security.
You will practise making a mind-map or spider diagram with
the information provided.
As these are the people who most closely affect want you
want – football fields, public areas and what’s directly
outside your house, you’ll write up a message to send to
them as well. (Writing it – not optional, sending it –
optional)

3. I will need about twenty people to read today. Raise hands after each part.
(note) There are 10 county councilors. Examples from different parties
are Imelda Munster (SF), Paul Bell (Lab), Alan Cassidy (SF) Tommy Byrne
(FF), Kevin Callan (Ind.), Maria Doyle (FG)
(note) Louth County council has 29 seats. Ardee (6), Drogheda (10),
Dundalk-Carlingford (6), Dundalk-South (7).
(Task) Create a mind map with ‘Local authority at the centre, seven
branches coming out labelled the seven bold words and all the
information.
(Note) County councillors are elected every 5 years. It is a voluntary
position. Their budget comes from the government and local charges.
(Task – Read page 247 and answer questions 1-3. Q3 – a small paragraph).
