8.  There are three on-court officials assigned to each
NBA game. Each official has a different title and set of
responsibilities.
1. Crew Chief
The crew chief is the head of the entire officiating crew.
Duties include making a final ruling when other officials
disagree and maintaining a strong line of
communication with coaches, scorers and statisticians.

9.  Referee
 Officials that occupy the referee position primarily handle
conduct violations. While referees are well-equipped to
call contact fouls and illegal positioning, they are mostly
relied upon to settle disputes and hand out technical fouls
if a player or coach loses control of their emotions and
behaves poorly.
 Umpire
 Umpires handle the clock (making sure the timer knows
when to pause and restart the game clock due to a
stoppage in play) and basic foul calls. For example, the
umpire will likely be the official to hand down a ruling
when a defensive player makes contact with an opposing
shooter.

13.  DRIBBLING – an act when a player repeatedly pushes,
taps, or bats ball towards the floor with one hand to
cause the ball bounce back up to either of hands.

14. 1. LOW-DRIBBLE- do not watch the ball while
dribbling, keep head up. keep the joints bent,
knees, elbow and waist keeping the ball close to the
body under control.
2. SPEED-DRIBBLE- push the ball out or farther in front
at waist height and run after it, increase running
speed while bouncing the ball, while increasing
speed, push the ball farther in front, use shoulder
and arm movement to control the dribble, the ball
should bounce to the upper chest.

15. 3. CHANGE-OF-PACE DRIBBLE- keep the head up,
always control the ball, knees bent more and the
lean forward is increased just before increasing the
dribbling speed.
4. CROSS-DRIBBLE- keep the ball low when dribbling,
if dribbling with the right hand once get close to the
defender, bounce it over the left side near the left
foot, keep the left hand ready or right hand to
receive the ball, execute crossover smoothly and
quickly.

16. 1. CHEST PASS- ball is held at the chest level, fingers
spread at each side of the ball, elbow remains close
to the body, the ball is sent with extended arms and
proper wrist snap, as knees flexed slightly one foot
moves towards the receiver.
2. BOUNCE PASS- holds the ball at waist level, fingers
spread at each side of the ball, feet apart and take
a step towards the target person, bounce the ball a
little over halfway to the player so that the ball
should reach the receiver at waist level.

17. 3. OVERHEAD PASS- holds the ball in both hands from
forehead to over the head with arms fully extended
depending on the player and situation, step
forward to the target person, throw with a forceful
wrist, finger snap and follow through.
4. BASEBALL PASS- hold the ball with one hand swing
the hand back and throw the ball the way a catcher
throws it to the second base.

18. 5. CATCHING AND RECEIVING- always bend knees, give
a signal to the passer by means of showing palms
up to the passer, the receiver jumps forward to
meet the ball and restores balance when pass
comes, be sure when catching the ball the pivot
foot should on established position.

19. 1. ONE-HAND SET SHOOT- if right handed, support the
ball with the left hand, holding the back and the
bottom with the right hand, push upward and
outward, releasing the ball off the ends of the
fingers with strong wrist action, and follow through
with fingers and arms, keep the body balance and
focus the eyes on the basket. Keep the right hand
slightly advanced using this shot.

20. 2. JUMP SHOT-can be execute when running or
standing position to make an accurate shot, player
should balanced position, coordination and a clear
view of the target.
3. LAY-UP SHOT-player run towards the basket, step
off with left foot to make the right handed lay-up
shot

21.  A foul is a penalty called by the referee. Fouls are
caused by physical contact (holding, pushing), or
actions (acting out like you are going to hit another
player but you don’t) or even extreme abusive yelling
or cussing (technical foul
 A violation there are no free throws taken when a
violation occurs. Violations are actions by players that
break a basketball rule – such as traveling, stepping
on the line, and back court.

22. Blocking
When the defender makes illegal
personal contact with an opponent who
may or may not have the ball. Blocking is
called when the defender impedes the
progress of the opponent.
Charging
occurs when an offensive player runs into (or over) a
defensive player who already has position (the
defender must first establish position). Other types of
player control fouls are when a dribbler uses an elbow
and hits a defender, or excessive physical contact by an
offensive post player trying to gain position.

23. Holding
occurs when a defender holds, grabs, or pulls
an offensive player (it doesn’t matter if the
offensive player has possession of the ball or
not).
Pushing
occurs when a defender pushes an offensive
player or bumps into the body of an offensive
player.

24. Technical Foul
A non-contact foul by a player; an intentional
or flagrant contact foul while the ball is dead;
or a violation charged to the head coach
because of violations on the sideline or from
bench personnel. A technical foul results in
two free throws and possession of the ball
out of bounds.

25. Jump Ball
(also called Tie Up or Held Ball) – When an
offensive player and a defensive player gain
possession of the ball at the same time – the
referee will blow the whistle. The referee will
then look at the possession arrow (at the
scorers table) and award possession to the
team that the direction is pointing (possession
is on a rotating basis)
Doubledribble
A dribbling violation occurs when a player stops
dribbling and then attempts to dribble again or if
a player attempts to dribble the ball with 2
hands.

26. (also called Walking or Walk) – If a ball
handler takes too many steps while dribbling
the referee can call a violation (considered a
turnover by the player and the possession of
the ball goes to the other team). Also if a
player has stopped dribbling and moves their
pivot foot – this is also considered a traveling
(or walking) violation.
