The Palace Of Versailles Housed The French Government
The Palace of Versailles housed the French government and all its royalty during the reigns of
Louis XIV XVI. After the French Revolution in 1789 however, it was no longer a permanent royal
residence for the government or royalty in France. It is located about 10 miles southwest of Paris,
beside the settlement of Versailles. Before Louis XIV inherited it, it was little more than a hunting
lodge built by Louis XIII, which he turned into a chateau. Soon however, it became one of the
largest urban centers, and the housing for many important officials in France. The Complex
included the palace, gardens, fenced in royal hunting ground, a structure known as the Grand
Trianon, the Royal chapel, an estate for Marie Antoinettethe queen an even an... Show more content

However, because of the water they had to supply for the fountains they were only used for
special occasions. The Versailles was dressed to impress for shore, with the impressiveness the
main goal of the palace.
The king built himself a Grand Trianon a mile northwest of the palace as a place for him to work
in private. People could only visit him there if invited, and it is said the garden of tuberoses
there had an overwhelming sent that drew people away. King Louis XIV s bedroom was built
on the upper floor, located centrally along the east west axis of the palace. It was considered was
the most important room in the palace. There they also had two of the3 important ceremonies
there, the lever and the coucher. They were just ceremonies for when the king woke up and
when he went to sleep. The king also had a ceremony for when he put on and took of his hunting
boots. People would attend the ceremonies as much as possible and did not desire to be absent.
the beauty of the palace itself complemented the ceremonies. The beauty emphasized the
achievements and power of the king himself. The king s bedroom and apartment were located
near the Hall of Mirrors which told a narrative of Louis XIV as King of France, and depicted
many of the battles fought in France. The king s throne was also located at the Apollo salon , and
he worshiped at the Royal chapel at the palace.
The queen of Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, built the estate

Alicia Chapter Summaries
The main character in this story is a Jewish girl named Alicia. When the book starts she is ten
years old, she lives in the Polish town of Buczacz with her four brothers, Moshe, Zachary, Bunio,
and Herzl, and her mother and father . The holocaust experience began subtly at first when the
Russians began to occupy Buczacz. When her brother Moshe was killed at a Boys School in
Russia and her father was gathered up by German authorities, the reality of the whole situation
quickly became very real. Her father was taken away shortly after the Russians had moved out and
the Germans began to occupy Buczacz. Once the Germans occupied, they moved the Jewish
populationof Buczacz into mass ghettos. Alicia and the rest of her... Show more content on

One day Alicia was informed that her brother had been hanged. After Zachary s death, Alicia was
befriended by a woman named Bella. She met many good friends in the ghetto including a future
friend as well as savior, Milek . Months later, Alicia and several other people were rounded up
and sent to a prison in Chortkov. Here the conditions were very poor. Every day more and more
people were taken out and shot. On the inside of the cells it was a cesspool of germs and
diseases. Every morning the jailkeepers would go around the cell and kick people to see if they
were still alive. One of these times Alicia was taken for dead and put onto a wagon with other
bodies. The driver of the wagon found her, nursed her back to better health and then brought her
back to the ghetto. During this time, before, and after she returned to the ghetto attempts to rid the
ghettos of Jews were called actions . To escape being caught by the German police who took part in
the actions, they built large bunkers to hide from their captors. After several of these actions, the
Buczacz ghetto had been emptied by more than half. At this point the time came to move to a new
ghetto. Alicia had been in this new ghetto only a short time when another action occurred. This time
Alicia was captured and brought to a mass grave with a multitude of other Jews. Just when Alicia

Critical Analysis Of The World Of Cooking By Boeuf...
This essay will first provide an analysis of a text, World of Cooking Boeuf Borgingnonne (see
suplementary materials) by focusing on the the theory and methods of the Russian Formalists. I
will then provide a brief critical discussion of the analysis and theory used.
To begin analysis I will look first at the device of linguistic sound The Formalists started out by
seeing the literary work as a more or less arbitrary assemblage of devices ... Devices included
sound, imagery , rhythm, syntax, meter, rhyme, narrative techniques, in fact the whole stock of
formal literary elements. (Khosravishakib 12). Therefor a criticism of device in the text is one of
the most important features of my analysis. The literary and poetic devices that are ... Show more

If my text, a recipe, a text of instruction not intended to be read for literariness can be examined,
in such fashion as Tolstoy, Gogol or Sterne, albeit loosely or satirically, then what use is the
method of formalism for the texts for which it was concieved? Due to my choice of text I have
proven that Formalism for the must part is a greatly unsatisfactory method of analysis of
literariness. Literature cannot, as I have demonstrated in my analysis be defined purely on the the
technical effects within in it. That is not to say that literature should not demonstrate or my
accessed on technicalities. The poet or writer or playwright should engage in art as a technique
while also demonstrating that technique must be a tool for the representation of ideas, philosophy,
emotion within a context or framework extrinsic to the text. Texts of any sort need a context in
order to be understood, I found great irony in the opening lines of Nicholas Warner s essay In
Search of Literary Science the Russian Formalist Tradition, In order to appreciate the astonishing
sophistication of Russian Formalist theory, and, indeed, even to understand what the Russian
Formalists were about, we first need to understand the critical context in which Russian Formalism
developed (70). This is a non literary text (though in theory one could debate otherwise) that much
is granted, but the fact remains that context is not a factor in needed in understanding the text in
terms of literariness for the Russian Formalists. I have noted through much of the essays on
Formalism that perception, which is a thread of understanding, is a key factor. In this case a
critical context should be taken into account in all texts in order to provide a means of

The Dilemma Of Batman
There is a video game called Injustice Gods Among Us where the main plot of the game is based
around the dilemma of is it morally right killing criminals. In the game, the character Joker
manipulates Superman s mind into killing his wife and unborn son by thinking they are one of
Superman s enemies. The Joker also set a nuclear bomb to detonate in Superman s town of
Metropolis when his wife and child die. After the bomb explodes, the Joker is placed into police
custody and is being interrogated by Batman. While being interrogated, Superman comes busting
into the jail wanting to kill the Joker. He and Batman got into an argument based around the fact
that they both had a moral rule that no criminal deserves to die at their hands, including the Joker.
Superman states that the Joker and other likeminded individuals are irredeemable and that their
victims deserve justice. While Batman argues that Superman and other superheroes are not above
the law, and that Superman cannot act as judge, jury, and executioner. The dilemma of the story is
based around the question, is it right to take another s life, no matter how many people an
individual has killed? Batman believes that killing anyone is morally wrong, when Superman
believes that killing criminals is morally correct. Both Consequentialist and Deontologist would
view this predicament differently. After the death of his wife and son, Superman understands why
there are people in the world that want to see criminals die. For

Ethics Paper on Facebook Beacon
Abstract Facebook began in February 2004. It was founded by Mark Zuckerberg and his
collegiate comrades at Harvard University. Rapidly expanding, Facebook s exponential growth
led to its membership growing to over one billion users, as of September 2012. One would
imagine that with such growth would come more opportunities for challenges to arise: one of
these challenges being users and their rights to privacy. As part of Facebook s advertising system,
their primary means of generating revenue, Beacon sent data from other companies and websites
to Facebook. Following a lawsuit, Beacon then changed to accommodate these requests. On
December 5, 2007, Facebook declared it would allow users to choose not to participate in Beacon in

With a plethora of free social media sites available to the public, Facebook would risk losing a
vast amount of membership and, thus, lose money. The second option Facebook had was to
completely get rid of the Beacon feature. If they chose this option, they would likely have to find
a new way to compensate for the revenue that would be lost by doing so. Remember, the main
way Facebook was able to keep its services free to users, was to generate revenue through
advertisements. In deleting the Beacon feature, Facebook would have to charge on one end:
through users or advertisers. Either way, it would be a large amount of revenue that would have
to be compensated for in the short time it would take to get rid of the Beacon feature. The last
choice Facebook had would be to modify the Beacon feature to accommodate the requests of
those who felt it violated their privacy. Doing so would be an attempt to balance the needs of the
Facebook Company as well as the users who felt they needed a greater sense of privacy when
dealing with the Beacon feature. Appropriate StandardsIf the Facebook Company was to use the
various ethical approaches to determine which option was best in determining how to solve their
issue, one option would prove most logical. Under the utilitarian approach, choosing to keep the
Beacon feature would not be the best decision to make. Under the utilitarian approach,

Story Of An Hour Satire
There is immense power in well written satire: it can make its audience laugh with witticisms
rooted in truths, even make them think differently about any subject, mundane or critical. Bad
satire, however, emphasizes all the wrong parts: it gets its facts wrong, goes off track, and closes
its audience s minds to any new way of thinking it might present. Li Chongyue and Wang Lihua s
article would be bad satire, a bad argument. Chongyue and Lihua s A Caricature of an Ungrateful
and Unfaithful Wife distorts Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hourthrough imaginative exaggeration
of character interaction, emotional ignorance, and its simplification of the characters and the text.
Firstly, there is no evidence in the text of The Story of an Hour to suggest that Louise Mallard has
been at all unfaithful to her husband. One sentence within the article suggests that some readers
have sensed an extramarital affair or an attempted one between Mrs. Mallard and Richards, which,
given its inclusion, the authors appear to agree with (Chongyue and Lihua). However, Richards is
mentioned by name in the text of the short storythree times: at the beginning when he confirmed
the news of Brently Mallard s death, toward the end when he awaited Josephine and Louise at
the bottom of the staircase, and when he tries to block Louise from seeing Brently Mallard alive
as he walks in the door (Chopin). He does not even truly interact with Louise: he is described as
near her when she learns of

Fate Vs Free Will In Macbeth
In the Shakespearean tragedy Macbeth, the theme Fate vs. Free Will is shown throughout the play
in many different ways. The main person that this theme relates to is Macbeth, specifically when he
makes decisions on how to become king and take over Scotland.
In the beginning of the play, Macbeth starts out as the Thane of Glamis. It appears that he will
become a great fearless leader in this position. In act one, the witches tell Macbeth the first set of
prophecies. They tell him that he will become king of Scotland one day and is going to be named
the Thane of Cawdor in the meantime. All hail, Macbeth! Hail to thee, thane of Glamis! All hail,

Stress And Stress Essay
Stress is physically and psychologically debilitating for humans. When an individual s response to
stress, their physical body discharges a substance of epinephrine and norepinephrine into the
erythrocyte. These hormones instantly initiate the brain to flight or fight in response to threat or
danger, which can positively or negatively influence a person s behavior. For instance, a recently
expelled college sophomore student got dismissed from a job, become a homeless person and owe
an outstanding amount of loan from the U.S. bank in a period of time. The overwhelming, stressful
situation such as this can disturb a person to have a nervous breakdown. According to the American

Therefore, adopting a healthier lifestyle can distinguish between a problem solving thought and a
nagging worry that has no benefit.
Secondly, the most beneficial method to overcome a stress disorder is through exercise since being
physically active stimulates the brain regions. When exercising, the brain acts as natural painkiller
described as endorphins releases into the brain cell, which rewires the memory circuits and
improved mental sharpness. Additionally, exercising is extremely effective for the body as it
reduces the fatigue and enhances the cognitive function. For those who are unwilling to take part
in the exercise, sex is another option to lessen stress because it drained all the stressful thought
away. A Psychiatrist from Harvard University once said, When two people have sexual
intercourse, the releases of oxytocin cut stress related to the brain region , implying sex is a
solution to clear up the complexion. While stress is a food source for sex, the pressure a person
feels may leave. Therefore, every minute count as the mind and body trained to reduce stressful
thoughts.
Another treatment doctor found to reduce a mental stress is by harnessing the upside of stress so a
relationship can be formed. Rather than denying stress, recognize and acknowledge that stress is a
way to nurture a person. A tend and befriend is a behavior by humans attempting to seek protection
from a social group for mutual defense in response to a threat. During

Most often it is some combination of the three. The speed at which the piece advances through the
cutter is called feed rate, or just feed; it is most often measured in length of material per full
revolution of the cutter.
As material passes through the cutting area of a milling machine, the blades of the cutter take
swarfs of material at regular intervals. This non continuous cutting operation means that no
surface cut by a milling machine will ever be completely smooth; at a very close level
(microscopic for very fine feed rates), it will always contain regular ridges. These ridges are
known as revolution marks, because rather than being caused by the individual teeth of the cutter,
they are caused by irregularities present in the cutter and milling machine; these irregularities
amount to the cutter being at effectively different heights above the work piece at each point in its
rotation. The height and occurrence of these ridges can be calculated from the diameter of the
cutter and the feed. These revolution ridges create the roughness associated with surface finish. *

Chemical Relaxer Research Paper

The Paschal Mystery In Beyond Belief
There are many tragic things that occurred on September 11, 2001, especially to those who lost
a loved one due to the attacks. There are also many lessons to be learned from this day. The
attacks could have led to hatred in everyones hearts towards the people of Afghanistan, but to two
women, they learned to love beyond belief. One of the ideas we can take away from these women
is the Paschal Mystery. JesusPassion, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension. Godsends Jesus to be the
ultimate receiver of Gods message because only Jesus can truly show the message by being
human. The elements of the Paschal Mystery help us to realize that there is something after
death. We can also take away the love people have in order to help someone more. The two
women show many signs of the Paschal Mystery in the movie Beyond Belief . Through their
actions, Patti and Susan are trying to communicate love and kindness to the widows of
Afghanistan. They want to show the woman that love can over come hatred. Although they have
been hurt by the actions some of the Afghan people did to this country, they are still open to help.

Re:Fill Rate for 10 ounce bottles of Linatol
Introduction
Lorex Pharmaceuticals recently gained FDA approval to market and sell a new product called
Linatol. This memo will address the need to select a target amount to which each 10 ounce bottle
of Linatol will be filled. The analysis of several target fill rates was conducted to determine the
one that maximizes the contribution per case, therefore generating the maximum revenue for
Lorex Pharmaceuticals. This ideal fill rate will allow more bottles to be sold at the full retail price
of $186 and limit the under filled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For each target fill rate the proportion of bottles filled correctly had to be determined. This
calculation provides a breakdown between cases that can be sold for the full amount of $186 and
cases that are designated as seconds, which are sold for 80% of the full price or $148.80. Revenue
per case grows continuously as the target fill rate increases. From the blending costs which include
$67,662 of active ingredient per 5000 liters, and blending labor of $432 per 5000 liter batch the cost
per ounce of medication is approximately $0.40. This provides input for the active ingredient
cost. Based on the labor cost of $8.50 per hour at 12 cases per hour, the input for rework cost per
case is approximately $0.70 per case. Contribution per case is derived from the revenue minus the
costs. The contribution per case is the performance criteria that our decision is based upon. Results
A balance between revenue and cost is seen at a target fill rate of 10.4 ounces per bottle. The
revenue per case is greater when the bottles are filled to 10.5 ounces; however the resulting
increase in the active ingredient cost produces a lower contribution per case. The recommendation
is to use a target fill rate of 10.4 ounces per bottle. Initially there will be an increased cost of active
ingredients but in the long

Generic Topic: Continuation of Gratuity
Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to support the continuation of tipping (in restaurants).
Introduction
I.Many times my family has gone out to restaurants, having nice experiences. Other visits not so
much. One outing in particular, my family and I ate out at an upscale French restaurant in Virginia.
The food was good. However, my dad left a small tip for the level of service provided by our
snobby waitress. Leaving the restaurant, we heard a Sir! Excuse me, Sir. Our waitress hurried
across the parking lot in effort to catch up with us. She asked, Did I do something wrong? In
which dad replied, No, you didn t do anything wrong, why? She hastily replied, The tip. The tip,
upset with the amount left.
II.As a recent employee in the restaurant industry, first as a hostess and later as a waitress, I have
had the opportunity to experience the system of tipping not just from a customer s point of view.
III.The majority of the population dines out at restaurants at one time or another facing the art of

How Does Eliza Haywood Use Disguise In Fantomina
Disguises In the 18th and 19th Century men and women wanted to search for their ideal partner
based on their desires while maintaining societal expectations placed on them. If a man or a
woman did not have certain traits they were considered unsuitable for marriage. In Eliza Haywood
s novel, Fantomina, and Oscar Wilde s play, The Importance of Being Earnest, the impact of these
unrealistic expectations are examined. In Fantomina the protagonist s character uses a variety of
disguises and power to maintain a sexual relationship with her lover. In the importance of Being

There are not many poems which offer such a wide range of possible perspectives for an

3. The Fire Sermon
The Fire Sermon is the third part of The Waste Land . The title is derived from a similar named
work by Buddha, which T.S. Eliot himself considered corresponding
В…in importance to the sermon of the mountВ… (Eliot 1971: 148).
In addition to the title, at the end of the poem Eliot also refers to this work. 3.1 Structure
The structure of the Fire Sermon is not easy to analyze. The poem does not have a straight
rhyme scheme or rhythm. Its main structural element is variation. Therefore I would suggest
seeing the whole poem reflecting the image of a river. This is done on various levels: the actions
and places described in the poem merge into one another, the transitions are flowing (cf. line 255
257, where first the record is put on the gramophone and then although there is a shift in place and
speaker it says This music crept by me upon the waters ), and also the rhythm and rhyme scheme
are constantly changing, so speed and intonation of a reader have to be adapted, just as a river runs
sometimes faster and sometimes more slowly.
There are parts with much more regular rhythm and rhyme scheme. Especially the part from line
218 I TiresiasВ… until line 256 And puts a recordВ… ). This reflects on the one hand the
monotony of the relationship ( love would not be suitable here!) of the described couple and on the
other hand this is the part, which is most clearly set in the

The Five Factor Model Of Personality
The five factor model (FFM) is a contemporary construct describing personality. It incorporates
five traits openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism also
referred to as OCEAN. Within each dimension, there are specific personality attributes, for
example, openness includes subcategories of feelings and actions. The FFM was influenced by
Cattell s 16 factor model (1957) and shares traits with many other personality theories such as
Eysenck s PEN model. There has been an ongoing debate discussing how many factors
appropriately represent the brain structure of personality, suggestions have varied from 2 7,
recently Almagor et al. (1995) advocated that a 7 factor model unfolds when evaluative traits are
involved. Costa Mcrae (1992) claim that the FFM is the best theory of personality, however, the
model has received much criticism. Through examining different aspects of the model its
credibility can be explored. Universality is the core basis of a credible theory, studies have been
found to replicate the five factors of personality repeatedly. However, this evidence has been
obtained purely from replications involving urban and literate populations. Gurven et al. (2013)
examined the universality of the theory further by obtaining a sample consisting of 632 Tsimane
forager horticultural inhabitants of Bolivia. The sample was, therefore, illiterate and from a native
society an area of study not previously conducted for the FFM. The

Stereotypes In The Blind Side
Film Analysis: The Blind Side When we are born into this world, her have no self identity.
Through years of personal relationships we develop our self image. Throughout the move The
Blind Side, relationships are developed that help create a new self concept for Michael Oher, an
African American teen stuck in a detrimental environment. By the breaking of stereotypes,
improving self esteem, first impressions, and the opening of the self concept, Michael, with help
from the Touhy family, is able to escape his old past and his old self. By using effective
communication, Michael is able to create a new positive image about himself. Early in the movie
we find out that Michael s self esteem is basically destroyed by his past home life. Michael has no
true guidance from his parents or guardians. The people around him gives him no hope in
improving either himself or his life. The situation in which he lives causes Michael to have a bad
attitude about himself. This attitude toward his self concept is his... Show more content on

Michael, within the family, was able to develop interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships with
the two Tuohy children. The daughter was around the same age as Michael so they were able to
talk about how to go about their social lives and network themselves. While the son was around
elementary school age, so he taught Michael to find beauty in the little things in life and to find the
fun. Just as the children taught Michael, so did Leigh Anne and her husband. They taught Michael
the importance of teamwork and that if he wanted to succeed in life that he could no longer go
through life alone. He would have to reach out to people and ask for help. Through these
intrapersonal and interpersonal relationship and communication, Michael was able to advance his
communication skills, and take them to the one place where he did not at first but eventually

Gender Gap Between Men And Women
Men and women have always played different roles in society. During the beginning of the 19th
century, the gap between males and females was much larger than it is now. Back then men and
women were usually assumed to have certain occupations. For example, in the 1950s women were
supposed to become housewives and stay at home all day cleaning, or taking care of their children
(Parry 1584). Due to the media coming out in the 19th century, women began to feel less free.
They began to care about their appearance more than anything else. This is one of the factors that
created the gendergap, that and the fact that society has always had one. This picture was taken in
California in 1921, and it depicts Dr. Louis Estes helping his daughter put on her boxing gloves,
while she gets ready to square up against her little brother. The title of the picture describes the
daughter as husky which doesn t make much sense. The little girl is not overweight, but it may be
referring to that she is more masculine than feminine in the picture. The image has many elements
that add to it being such an influential image. It shows the daughter being taller than both males
in the photo which asserts dominance. Also, both Dr. Estes and his son s eyes both lead to the
daughter which makes her the focal point of the image. Dr. Estes had a reputation for having a
peculiar style of raising his children. The photo goes against the norms of the era, because boxing
was supposed to be a man s sport. The

The Is The World Wide Web Is Invented By A Man Named Tim...
The Web is composed of many languages, unspoken languages written in code. These languages
take a short time to learn, but years to master; and unlike spoken languages they are constantly
evolving at a noticeable rate. Changing to accommodate for the webs changing functionality, as it
shifted from being only scholarly to include news, entertainment, socializing, and business. In its
28 year life span the web has evolved from the most basic HTMLlayouts to the high functioning
responsive sites people are familiar with today. What is known as the World Wide Web
was invented
by a man named Tim Berners Lee in 1989 (Toshniwal, 2004). He wanted to create a way for
scientists and researchers across the world to be able to share documents. With the World Wide
Web they would be able to download a collection of documents to a computer, and those documents
would be connected to other related documents via hyperlinks (Longman). A hyperlink in a
connection from one page to another by clicking it with a mouse, this can be done to images or
text. It s common for hyperlinked text to be underlined and a different color than the rest of the text.
When creating the World Wide Web Berners Lee also created HTML, which stands for Hypertext
Markup Language. HTML is a text file that tells the web browser how a web page should be
displayed and organized (Longman). He created HTML by drawing inspiration from the very first

Anecdotal Evidence And Its Impact On The Progress And...
Anecdotal evidence is collected in a casual or informal manner and relies heavily or entirely on
personal testimony. When compared to other types of evidence, anecdotal evidence is generally
regarded as of limited value to a number of potential weaknesses unless documentation and/or
statistical evidence is maintained. Anecdotal evidenceis sometimes considered within the scope of
scientific method. For example the use of case studies in medicine rely on anecdotal evidence,
because some anecdotal evidence can be both empirical and verifiable. This applies also to
education.
Our assertion, particularly when dealing with students and parents, is that anecdotal information,
gleaned from conversation, oral reporting and similar, generally provides far more effective
feedback on the progress and development of the student, delineates learning concerns more
concisely and allows constructive consideration of possible resolutions.
Education has a new push to fully embrace data as the pivot for program delivery but there is
significant danger when there is misapplication or misunderstanding regarding the value of the data.
Currently, it is hard to attend an education conference or read an education magazine without
encountering broad claims for data based decision making and research based practice convenient
buzzwords that obscure rather than clarify, to justify incoherent and glib new proposals or courses
of action.
The embrace of data has stampeded us directly from resistance to

Social Phobia Or Social Anxiety Disorder
Social phobia or social anxiety disorder (SAD), and Avoidant personality disorder (AVPD) are both
characterized by having significant interference in social situations. This essay will focus on a
cognitive view to explain the similarities and differences between them.
Lifetime prevalence of SAD fall between 5% 13% (Furmark, 2002; Grant et al., 2005), and 0.5%
5% for AVPD (Torgersen, Kringlen, Cramer, 2001; and Grant, Stinson, Dawson, Chou, Ruan,
2005) (as cited in Hummelen, Wilberg, Pederson, Karterud, 2007, p. 348). Cox, Pagura, Stein, and
Sareen, (2009) have found high co occurrences between SAD and AVPD (36.4%) and it has been
questioned whether the two disorders are the same with different levels of severity. Further support

Also, a key criterion indicates that the reaction must also be out of proportion to the actual situation.
An AVPD individual may exhibit anxious related behaviours because of their negative mindset, but
this is not a key feature for diagnosis. The distinction between both disorders are the emphasis of
fear of the social situation (SAD), compared to the fear of being negatively evaluated by others
(AVPD).
Hirsch and Clark (2004) suggests that individuals with social phobia (SP) experience information
processing bias meaning they experience social situations differently. Individuals with SAD were
more self critical, had negative expectations, and better at recognizing negative expressions on
faces (Hirsch Clark, 2004). When anticipating a social interaction, SAD individuals recalled more
negative and less positive traits about themselves (Hirsch Clark, 2004). This can explain their fear,
and anxiety, because they were afraid their actions would be negatively evaluated by others (e.g. if
they forgot, or stumbled over their lines during a presentation causing embarrassment). On the other
hand, AVPD individuals avoid social situations because of their dysfunctional way of thinking.
They hold very negative evaluations of themselves that they are socially inadequate and unlikeable
(Beck et al., 2001). Thus, they expect others to reject them. For example, AVPD individuals were
more likely to agree with following statement

Firing Back At Gun Control Essay

Firing Back At Gun Control In America there are about 200,000 women that use guns every year to
protect themselves against sexual crime (Snyder). Gun control is where the government puts laws
on someones ownership of a firearm. Gun control is a tricky topic and has the nation somewhat
split both ways on it. 62% think that there is little concern for firearm restriction, while 33% say
there is a need to worry about it, and the other 5% are indifferent (Ekins). There are two main
groups that are feuding on this topic. Group one is the gun activist, leading the pack for them is
the National Rifle Association. This group is for guns and limited laws and regulations on them.
Their opposition is the President, liberals and many left wing politicians. This group wants to
have strict gun laws and allow nobody to own a gun. Although some people believe guns are
wrong they need to become educated in the importance of guns: they can provide a way of life,
they are a means of protection, and Americans have a constitutional right to bear arms.
For some people owning and using a gun is a way of life. They are hunters, trap shooters, and
businessmen. Hunters are able to use a firearm as a means of providing food for their family and
the hungry of the community. There are organizations such as one in North Carolina that receive
legally harvested deer from hunters to feed families in need ( Hunting Matters ). Meat from hunting

What Did Joan Didion Do When To Get Home
The first thing I do when I finally get home, after sliding face up, with my bike and soccer bag
forming a haphazard 45 pound pile resting on my chest, down the near vertical 50 foot gravel
slope of a highway overpass in construction, is find out the extent to which the outer layers of my
skin are still connected to my back. I do this in the garage, careful that only brother is with me
because I know my parents will worry. As I pull up my shirt, revealing my raw back to the glaring
white LEDs overhead, I hear a kind of gasp as my brother exclaims that looks really bad! He
takes a picture so I can see for myself. To be fair, a majority of my back is indeed quite red. But
the scrapes only cover the surface, the stinging has subsided, and I am safely home. So, with this
in mind, I laugh and try to reassure my brother. It s really not that bad, I tell him repeatedly. I say
that often these days. These words, as regards both this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

aspect particular to Didion herself), I decided to write about how, because I started late on my
driving education, I am forced to bike essentially everywhere. Of course, as opposed to the
apparently iron fate of Didion s genetic profile, I have no one but myself to blame for this;
however, I feel my adventures with biking complements Didion s troubles with migraines in the
sense that both are aspects relatively unique to our specific lives, both traits that a superficial
conversation might not reveal right away and both traits that often give rise to troublesome (and if
we see the bright side, often educational and even humorous) misadventures. Okay, the latter
perhaps only in my case. Didion has the worse lot here, I would

The Long Road Of Revolution During Colonial America
The Long Road to Revolution in Colonial America The four major events during the period of
1763 17751 led to the conflict between colonial America and Great Britain are the Stamp Act,
Townshend Acts, Tea Act, Continental Congress. First of all, in February 1765, Grenville
escalated his revenue program with the stamp act, precipitating a major conflict between Britain
and the colonies over Parliament s right to tax. The Stamp Act imposed a tax on all paper used
for official documents newspapers, pamphlets, court documents, licenses, wills, ships cargo lists
and required an affixed stamp as proof that the tax had been paid. The Act intensified the conflict
between the colonial and Parliament Colonists believed that Parliament had no right to tax the
colonies. Sons of Liberty stopped stamped papers from being unloaded at docks. Merchants
organized a boycott of British goods. They demanded Parliament repeal the Act. In 1766
Parliament repeal the Act. Secondly, Townshend proposed new taxes in the old form of a
navigation act. Officially called the Revenue Act of 1767, it established new duties on tea, glass,
lead, paper, and painters colors imported into the colonies, to be paid by the importer but passed
on to consumers in the retail price. Dozens of towns begin to boycott of all British made goods.
British Imports fell by more than 40 percent. In 1770 The Townshend Duties are Repealed Under
financial pressure from the colonists non importation policy, Parliament

What Does It Mean To Be A Leader

Furthermore, leader is born to be made. So I can say that LeaderShape`s Institute program, which
helps and supports the nation in a unique way teaches leadershipknowledge and skill. By joining the
training program, I tried to focus on developing my skills to be a leader. First, I intended to learn
how to develop leadership skill which is powerful in today`s business environment and our general
community involvement. In the business environment, we need leaders that have a strong
commitment to be successful for the projects or goals as well. Sometimes, the goals can be
changed and the projects are cancelled or be unsuccessful, but leaders should be there to continue
handling the situations. So, I focused on learning how to take my leadership position and
requirements from a general to specific one which can be also changeable, depending on the
environment and conditions.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Climate Plays an Important Environmental Influence on...
Climate plays an important environmental influence on our ecosystems, and climate changes
and the influences of it affect ecosystems in many ways. Ecosystems are already showing
negative impacts under current levels of climate change. One of the biggest issues that we are
facing nowadays is global warming. With the global warming and the rising of the temperature
of sea water, it has great impact on the species in the ocean. More species is facing extinction and
with the rising of temperature, it could force species in the ocean to migrate to higher latitudes
where temperatures are lower and easier to survive. In this research, I would like to know if global
warming would force fishmigrate to north or not. I will test the sea water temperature and the
survivability of zooplankton with different water temperature. By doing this research, it enables us
to understand the habit of species in the ocean and to avoid the extinction of certain species. This
research will also prove that global warming influences the whole ocean ecosystem and we should
recognize this issue and think what we can do to reduce and slow down the damage to the ocean.
As the temperature of water is rising, warm water fish are expanding into areas where was
previously inhabited by coldwater species and cause coldwater species losing their habitats. When
waters turning warmer due to global warming, the area that allow coldwater species to migrate is
reduced, and this might cause some species extinct.

Stoichiometry Lab Report
Stoichiometric Reactions with Phosphoric Acid
By Jaime Conklin
Partner: Deanna Ryan
CHE 120 03
Instructor: Mr. Cusumano
September 30, 2015
Purpose
The purpose of this experiment is to examine the stoichiometric relationship between reagents and
the identity of the products by using three acid/base neutralization reactions of a triprotic acid,
phosphoric acid, and varying molar equivalents of sodium hydroxide. The data will be used to
determine the formula weight of the products and identify the remaining salt for all three reactions.
Introduction
In this experiment, we learned about stoichiometry, empirical formula, molecular formula,
polyprotic acids and bases, metathesis reactions, and moles.
Stoichiometry is a very important part of chemistry. Stoichiometry refers to calculating the masses
of molecules and their products . The reactants are usually given and stoichiometry is used to find
the products of the equations as well balancing the equation. An example of this would be sodium
chloride (NaCl). Stoichiometry will say that if there are ten thousand atoms of sodium and one
atom of chlorine, only one molecule of sodium chloride can be made and that fact can never be
changed.
Ex: 10,000Na + 1Cl в†’ NaCl + 9,999Na
Empirical formulas represent the ratio of atoms in a formula. It is expressed in the simplest, small,
whole number ratio. The molecular formula can either be the empirical formula, or a multiple of
the empirical

Qualitative Data Collection Methods Paper
Qualitative data collection method is the method I would use to answer my research question:
How does text messaging effect teen literacy? I would choose this method over quantitative
because qualitative methods are lead with first hand observations for a wide range of behaviors.
The hypothesis is broad and looks to describe the entire picture. It helps us to understand the world
we live in and explains why things are the way they are. This type of researchis primary gathering
information for the early stages of a question. One of the major reasons for doing qualitative
researchis to become more experienced with the phenomenon you are interested in.
Qualitative data collections are particularly helpful when the event is not of importance, but rather
how the event may influence a sequence of other actions. Describing the complicated phenomena
is not the goal of a qualitative research, but rather to distinguish ideas as to why and how a specific
phenomenon operates as it does in a precise situation.

jewellery, as well as the latest Balmain Army collection inspired by Rousteing himself. They

premium quality clothing, accessories and footwear for both genders that are quality and price

The Causes Of Human Growth And The Endocrine System
In mammals, we find that the body requires certain systems to function properly and effectively in
order to grow. The endocrine system is one of the physiological systems that primarily regulates
growth and plays a vital role in the onset of post natal growth as well as the onset and cessation of
pubertal growth. There are also other contributors such as nutrition and genetics, etc. that influence
these growth patterns. The endocrine systemis a vital messaging system that relies completely on
hormonedelivery to specific cells. The medium of this delivery is the blood in the venous system
which means that the hormones secreted can reach target cells often located far from the endocrine
glands; this is an efficient method as the endocrine system regulates activities that require duration
rather than speed. This efficient system means that homeostasis can be maintained. As the
hormones are distributed in the blood through the venous system, this results in the whole body
being exposed to these hormones and therefore the fact that only the target cells have specific
binding receptors for the particular hormone means that only those target cells will respond to the
exposure of the hormone. Once the hormone is bound to its specific target cell receptors, a chain of
events within the target cells occurs that brings about the hormones final effect. (Sherwood, 2016)

Compare And Contrast The Kite Runner And Antigone
A moral or lesson is a message that is conveyed to be learned from a story or an event. The Kite
Runner follows the story of Amir and his childhood living in Afghanistan with his friend Hassan
and Antigone is a greek mythology play about Antigone the daughter/sister of Oedipus, the play
follows Antigone on a journey of family loyalty. Works of literature often teach the readers a social
or moral lesson, both The Kite Runner and Antigoneteach a very well build lesson that affects the
reader s moral ethics. Both works of literature have similar themes throughout the storyline that
changes the reader s understanding which leads both the novel and the play to have two very
different morals.

In The Kite Runner, the main lesson readers learn is redemption. Amir makes a mistake but in
the end, learns from it. An example of this is when Assif is beating up Amir: [Amir] What was
so funny was that, for the first time since the winter of 1975 I felt at peace. I laughed because I
saw that, in some nook in the corner of my mind, I had been looking forward to this. (Hosseini
289). This quote shows us that while Assif is beating Amir, Amir s guilt is dieing down and he is
at peace. This also shows that Amir would do anything for Hassan and in a way he is redeeming
himself for what he did to Hassan. The moral of The Kite Runner is that no matter the sin, there is
always a chance for redemption. The themes of loyalty, sacrifice and betrayal that are present
throughout this novel leads to the lesson of redemption for Amir. In Antigone there are multiple
lessons that the play teaches us, one of them is that too much pride is going to lead to misfortune
and another one is don t try to change your fate. Both Antigone and Creon faced their misfortune for
having excessive pride. The Kite Runner and Antigone starts off with all the same themes but in the
end both Amir, Hassan, Antigone and Creon have different fate. For both Hassan and Antigone,
their loyalty takes them to their graves. The lesson readers learn from

Description Of A Website On A Webpage Essay
Archiving
When testing if a webpage is archived and how often is it archived one important factor is when is
the webpage created. If a webpage is created in 2000 we would assume it will be archived several
times. However, if the webpage is created yesterday we would assume it might not be archived or
at least once. So here we want to figure out the creation date of our collection and make sure we
have a different variety of creation years.
One method to determine when the URIs are created is to find out when was the domain name
created. This can be done using the Whois protocol [14]. However, using this method we only
found 3533 creation date out of 7976 Arabic seed URIs . The oldest creation date we found using
this method in our collection of Aranic seed URIs was 1996.
Another method is the carbon date tool, it searches for creation date in the indexed search engines,
archived in the public archives, and shared in the social media and save the oldest date found as the
creation date. We have to note that creation dates obtained are just an estimate [15].
Figure 3 shows the creation date and its frequency. It shows we have a large distribution of
creation dates. And the maximum creation date was in 2005 where almost 500 websites are created.
ARCHIVE
Online websites are crawled and are archived so they can be available for any special purpose [16].
We checked if Arabic URIs are archived using the memento web time map. We collected the

Vonnegut writes, He had been saving Billy s life for days (34). Vonnegut is telling how Roland
Weary, who hates Billy, has to save him over and over again because he is to stupid to save
himself. Also, war is seen as ridiculous because Weary who doesn t even like Billy risks his life to
save him just because of his duty to do so.
Specific parts of the book add to the anti warism that it contains. One of these parts is when
Vonnegut writes, Above all, he wanted to be avenged, so he said again and again the name of the
person who had killed him (79). This part of the novel is telling about the death of Roland Weary.
He told everyone that Billy was responsible for his death. The soldiers should have been fighting
the opposition in the war instead of their own countrymen.
For many people war has made them mentally unstable. One of these people is Billy Pilgrim. He
thinks that he is abducted by aliens that transport him to the planet of Tralfamadore. He learns
things about life from the Tralfamadorians and they learn things from him. He is transported many
times throughout the novel. One of these time travels is

Photo Based And Installation Art
Isabel, tell us about your beginning in photography. I earned a BFA from the Pontificia Universidad
CatГіlica in my hometown of Santiago de Chile; it was quite the comprehensive program. I went
in thinking I would do sculpture and came out working in photo based and installation art.
Though I was instructed in many disciplines from painting to computer based and everything in
between, the nature of my practice determined that photo based was the most appropriate medium
to develop the concepts and ideas I was interested in exploring back then. A year later, I attended
grad school in Canada and obtained an MFA from the University of Guelph. Currently, my
practice encompasses the creation of photo based images, video works, and three dimensional
objects concepts manifests simultaneously through a variety of mediums. How were The Weekend
and Quantum Blink created? The method employed in the creation of Quantum Blink is a
variation from that of The Weekend. The slicing is analog and is the result of direct in camera
interversions. There was a lot of experimentation with countless materials, and plenty of trial an
error before I could successfully achieve the results I was after. The negative itself has the stripes,
hence the irregularity on the edges and slight overlap which becomes more apparent once the image
is printed larger. While the temporal distance between exposures in The Weekend reached up to
seven months, in Quantum Blink the lapse ranged from a few minutes to an

Music Essay On Music And The Power Of Music
Song Essay The power of music is as strong today as it has ever been before. Throughout history
music has been a way for our people to speak out against the government or follow their
commands. There is a great irony that a lot of these songs nowadays all tie together to portray
the same message, and this is not a coincidence. Today, hip hop has taken the lead in protesting
police brutality and the injustices suffered by the poor. Within the selection of songs, the
audience can see how the government tries to control us, as well as how there is still much
racism going on today. Joey s song, Temptations, explores the issue of racial equality and the
struggle of being black in America. Growing up in a poor neighborhood not having your rent on
time because your mom works a nine to five job that s just enough to make a living as a result of
how the government has set up the average person to be, I really came up from the bottom
/ Strugglin , my momma on her last dollar / Hustling man I ve been putting in these hours / The
government been trying to take away what s ours (line 18 21). In this song, Badmon describes
how young men are killing one another, and figure that is the way to go about things because of
culture but fail to really see what they are doing as well as who they are hurting. He also mentions
how people make an example out of killing someone rather than spreading positivity and leaves
you with the question of are you willing to make the sacrifice, to make a

These are usually the most common bets placed. Most, if not all, Bitcoin sportsbooks offer
straight bets. If you are new to sports betting, it is always a good idea to stay within the
boundaries of straight bets. Some of the horse racing Bitcoin betting predictions that fall under
this category includes win bets, place bets, show bets, across the board bets, and each way bet.
Remember to look into each and every single type of prediction to find out which one fits your
needs. Exotic bets Exotic horse racing Bitcoin betting predictions require more of your attention.
Some of these bets might get too complicated, so it s always a good thing to study the different
exotic bets before moving forward. The complex characteristics of exotic bets come with an
advantage, though. If you get one right, you can expect handsome returns. Some of the exotic bets
include trifecta bets, reverse trifecta, exacta, and reverse exacta bets. Multiple bets A number of

Greed In Yertle The Turtle
Yertle the Turtle in the book Yertle the Turtle by Dr.Seuss was very greedy. He always wanted
more and more, in this case turtles so he could be the as it states in the book: I m ruler said
Yertle, of all that I see. To see more, he needed something to stack up with, and one resource he
had available to stack up with were turtles. Another reason he was greedy was when he said in
the book: My throne shall be higher! his royal voice thundered, So pile up more turtles! I want
bout two hundred! Now, being greedy is bad because bad things will happen afterwards. As I was
watching the video on Yertle the Turtle, I predicted that he would fall of his stack, and some reason
because of Mack. I was not sure either intentionally or unintentionally however.... Show more

One is that being greedy will lead to bad things. The second one is that other people have lives as
well and need to do certain things to live a healthy life. At the end of the story somebody else
was sitting on the rock, so it might of been either Mack or somebody else. If that means
somebody else is the king, then that means that sometimes bad decisions can lead to somebody
else s good or just plain bad with it just going away. When Yertle saw the moon and wanted to
stack up even higher, I actually thought he was going to go to outer space and then lift off into
the void. The book was very easy to understand as for one, it was a book not really meant for our
age group, and for two, that lots of the words rhymed and it made it flow. Thirdly is that the
reader, Mrs.Harrits read very fluently, also she spoke loudly so everybody could understand.
Yertle became the king of lots of things. Those include: Sala ma Sond pond, cow, mule, house,
blueberry bush and a cat. These were stated when it was said in the book: All mine! Yertle cried.

Fuel Injection Is A Mandatory Part Of The Combustion Process
Fuel injection is a mandatory part of the combustion process. The chemical energy provided by the
fuel allows the engine to transmit power for a myriad of uses in the marine industry including
power and propulsion or a combination of the both. The results of combustion include heat and
exhaust gases. These exhaust gases, in addition to cost, make fuel injectionsystems more important
today than ever. The International Maritime Organization s Marine Pollution Prevention annex VI
has established new regulations for nitric oxides, and sulfur oxide emissions which are the by
products of fuel combustion. Electronic fuel injection systems play a important role in the
reduction of these emissions by improving the efficiency of fuel combustion.
The main function of the fuel oil injection system is to provide the right amount of fuel at the
right time. In order for fuel injection systems to work, there must be a means of measuring the
fuel supply and a way to time the delivery and atomization of the fuel. This paper was completed
in order to examine and compare two types of electronically controlled fuel injection systems,
mechanically driven injection and electronic injection. The two types of systems we researched
were the Sulzer RTA Series and the Sulzer RT Flex.
Wartsila RTA Series The Sulzer RTA engine was a low speed, two stroke crosshead diesel engine
and have five to eight cylinders. These engines were designed for tankers and bulk carriers between

Female Oppression in Jane Eyre Essay
Throughout Jane Eyre Charlotte BrontГ« uses the character Jane as a tool to comment on the
oppression that women were forced to endure at the time. Jane can be seen as representative of
the women who suffered from repression during the Victorian period, a time when patriarchy was
commonplace. BrontГ« herself was affected by the time period, because according to Wolfe, she
was deprived experience and intercourse and travel. (70) Thus Jane offers a unique perspective as
a woman who is both keenly aware of her position and yet trapped by it despite repeated attempts to
elevate herself and escape the burden placed on by her different suitors. Although superficially it
seems that Jane wants to break away from the relationships that further... Show more content on

bring herself to stay in a relationship in which she sacrifices part of herself, because she doesn t

remaining uncorrupted. Over the course of the novel it becomes clear that Jane is two separate
people one practical and honest, the other simply a lonely girl looking for a place to belong. The
question becomes how she will resolve the tension between each of these Jane s who seem to be
at odds with one another. This divergence is represented by her struggle to leave Thornfield, and
when making that choice we see a distinct conflict between her conscious and passion. She refers
to her conscience as a tyrant taunting passion and threatening it with agony. (335) Moreover, Jane
also says that it has an arm of iron which alludes to its strength and foreshadows which of the two
will eventually win. (335) Once she realizes what she needs to do she explains the reasoning
mechanically using words that are plain and free from emotion such as, law, and principles as

Law Of Conservation Of Mass Essay
The purpose of this lab was to test the law of conservation of mass by comparing the total mass of
the reactants in a chemical reaction with the total mass of the product.
If the mass of the reactants are compared to the mass of the products, then the mass will stay the
same because the law of conservation of mass states that in any given chemical reaction, the total
mass of the reactants equals the total mass of the products.
1.For Table 1 the difference between the reactants and the product was zero grams. One possible
explanation as to why the mass stayed the same, was that there was a rubber stopper covering the
top of the Erlenmeyer flask. This resulted in the mass to staying the same because it stopped the
gas that was formed from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because the Law of Conservation of Mass states, in any given chemical reaction, the total
mass of the reactants equal the total mass of the products. In Part B the total mass of the reactants
did not equal the total mass of the products. There was in fact a difference of 0.62grams between
the reactants and the produced mass.
When you mix Tap water and an Antacid Tablet the results are production of gas. Gas can be
harmful and can escape very easily out of a container. The gas will go into the air and will remain
there causing the air to be harmful. One safe way to collect this gas is to place a balloon over the
container. The gas will rise up and inflate the balloon and the gas will remain sealed in the balloon.
This is a safe way to extract the gas as it will make sure none of the gas can escape to harm people.
The results are accurate for Part A because Part A follows the law of conservation of mass. This
means that the total mass of the reactants would be equal to the total mass of the products, and in
Part A this did occur. The results for Part B are accurate because gas was formed and unlike Part
A, the beaker was not covered with a rubber stopper. This resulted in the gas escaping and causing a
loss of

sources take more serious than others, that list some of the horrendous acts that Vlad committed.

His eyebrows were massive almost meeting over the nose, and with bushy hair that seemed to
curl in its own profusion. The mouth, so far as I could see it under the heavy moustache, was
fixed and rather cruel looking, with peculiarly sharp white teeth. These protruded over the lips,
whose remarkable ruddiness showed astonishing vitality in a man of his years. For the rest, his
ears were pale and the tops extremely pointed. The chin was broad and strong, and the cheeks firm
though thin. The general effect was one of extraordinary pallor. (Stoker)
Parts of this description may fit what is projected in ones mind when picturing the count, but other
parts are quite different. For example the pointy teeth, red lips, and pale skin are expected.
However, the Dracula in the movies is not often sporting a thick moustache. As the book continues,
the count begins to frighten Jonathan. Dracula is always absent during the day, and once while
Jonathan was shaving Dracula came in and startled him resulting in a cut on Jonathan s cheek. At
the sight of the blood Dracula attacked him only stopping when he saw the crucifix hanging on his

After the French Revolution in 1789 however, it was no longer a permanent royal residence for the government or royalty in France. Before Louis XIV inherited it, it was little more than a hunting lodge built by Louis XIII, which he turned into a chateau. When the book starts she is ten years old, she lives in the Polish town of Buczacz with her four brothers, Moshe, Zachary, Bunio, and Herzl, and her mother and father . The holocaust experience began subtly at first when the Russians began to occupy Buczacz. When her brother Moshe was killed at a Boys School in Russia and her father was gathered up by German authorities, the reality of the whole situation quickly became very real. Her father was taken away shortly after the Russians had moved out and the Germans began to occupy Buczacz. Once the Germans occupied, they moved the Jewish populationof Buczacz into mass ghettos. After Zachary s death, Alicia was befriended by a woman named Bella. She met many good friends in the ghetto including a future friend as well as savior, Milek . Months later, Alicia and several other people were rounded up and sent to a prison in Chortkov. Here the conditions were very poor. Every day more and more people were taken out and shot. On the inside of the cells it was a cesspool of germs and diseases. Every morning the jailkeepers would go around the cell and kick people to see if they were still alive. One of these times Alicia was taken for dead and put onto a wagon with other bodies. The driver of the wagon found her, nursed her back to better health and then brought her back to the ghetto. During this time, before, and after she returned to the ghetto attempts to rid the ghettos of Jews were called actions . To escape being caught by the German police who took part in the actions, they built large bunkers to hide from their captors. After several of these actions, the Buczacz ghetto had been emptied by more than half. At this point the time came to move to a new ghetto. Alicia had been in this new ghetto only a short time when another action occurred. This time Alicia was captured and brought to a mass grave with a multitude of other Jews. Just when Alicia was ... This essay will first provide an analysis of a text, World of Cooking Boeuf Borgingnonne (see suplementary materials) by focusing on the the theory and methods of the Russian Formalists. I will then provide a brief critical discussion of the analysis and theory used. To begin analysis I will look first at the device of linguistic sound The Formalists started out by seeing the literary work as a more or less arbitrary assemblage of devices ... Devices included sound, imagery , rhythm, syntax, meter, rhyme, narrative techniques, in fact the whole stock of formal literary elements. (Khosravishakib 12). If my text, a recipe, a text of instruction not intended to be read for literariness can be examined, in such fashion as Tolstoy, Gogol or Sterne, albeit loosely or satirically, then what use is the method of formalism for the texts for which it was concieved? Due to my choice of text I have proven that Formalism for the must part is a greatly unsatisfactory method of analysis of literariness. Literature cannot, as I have demonstrated in my analysis be defined purely on the the technical effects within in it. That is not to say that literature should not demonstrate or my accessed on technicalities. The poet or writer or playwright should engage in art as a technique while also demonstrating that technique must be a tool for the representation of ideas, philosophy, emotion within a context or framework extrinsic to the text. Texts of any sort need a context in order to be understood, I found great irony in the opening lines of Nicholas Warner s essay In Search of Literary Science the Russian Formalist Tradition, In order to appreciate the astonishing sophistication of Russian Formalist theory, and, indeed, even to understand what the Russian Formalists were about, we first need to understand the critical context in which Russian Formalism developed (70). This is a non literary text (though in theory one could debate otherwise) that much is granted, but the fact remains that context is not a factor in needed in understanding the text in terms of literariness for the Russian Formalists. I have noted through much of the essays on Formalism that perception, which is a thread of understanding, is a key factor. In this case a critical context should be taken into account in all texts in order to provide a means of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the game, the character Joker manipulates Superman s mind into killing his wife and unborn son by thinking they are one of Superman s enemies. The Joker also set a nuclear bomb to detonate in Superman s town of Metropolis when his wife and child die. After the bomb explodes, the Joker is placed into police custody and is being interrogated by Batman. While being interrogated, Superman comes busting into the jail wanting to kill the Joker. He and Batman got into an argument based around the fact that they both had a moral rule that no criminal deserves to die at their hands, including the Joker. Superman states that the Joker and other likeminded individuals are irredeemable and that their victims deserve justice. While Batman argues that Superman and other superheroes are not above the law, and that Superman cannot act as judge, jury, and executioner. The dilemma of the story is based around the question, is it right to take another s life, no matter how many people an individual has killed? Batman believes that killing anyone is morally wrong, when Superman believes that killing criminals is morally correct. Both Consequentialist and Deontologist would view this predicament differently. • 7. Ethics Paper on Facebook Beacon Abstract Facebook began in February 2004. It was founded by Mark Zuckerberg and his collegiate comrades at Harvard University. Rapidly expanding, Facebook s exponential growth led to its membership growing to over one billion users, as of September 2012. One would imagine that with such growth would come more opportunities for challenges to arise: one of these challenges being users and their rights to privacy. As part of Facebook s advertising system, their primary means of generating revenue, Beacon sent data from other companies and websites to Facebook. Following a lawsuit, Beacon then changed to accommodate these requests. On December 5, 2007, Facebook declared it would allow users to choose not to participate in Beacon in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With a plethora of free social media sites available to the public, Facebook would risk losing a vast amount of membership and, thus, lose money. The second option Facebook had was to completely get rid of the Beacon feature. If they chose this option, they would likely have to find a new way to compensate for the revenue that would be lost by doing so. Remember, the main way Facebook was able to keep its services free to users, was to generate revenue through advertisements. In deleting the Beacon feature, Facebook would have to charge on one end: through users or advertisers. Either way, it would be a large amount of revenue that would have to be compensated for in the short time it would take to get rid of the Beacon feature. The last choice Facebook had would be to modify the Beacon feature to accommodate the requests of those who felt it violated their privacy. Doing so would be an attempt to balance the needs of the Facebook Company as well as the users who felt they needed a greater sense of privacy when dealing with the Beacon feature. Appropriate StandardsIf the Facebook Company was to use the various ethical approaches to determine which option was best in determining how to solve their issue, one option would prove most logical. Under the utilitarian approach, choosing to keep the Beacon feature would not be the best decision to make. Under the utilitarian approach, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Story Of An Hour Satire There is immense power in well written satire: it can make its audience laugh with witticisms rooted in truths, even make them think differently about any subject, mundane or critical. Bad satire, however, emphasizes all the wrong parts: it gets its facts wrong, goes off track, and closes its audience s minds to any new way of thinking it might present. Li Chongyue and Wang Lihua s article would be bad satire, a bad argument. Chongyue and Lihua s A Caricature of an Ungrateful and Unfaithful Wife distorts Kate Chopin s The Story of an Hourthrough imaginative exaggeration of character interaction, emotional ignorance, and its simplification of the characters and the text. Firstly, there is no evidence in the text of The Story of an Hour to suggest that Louise Mallard has been at all unfaithful to her husband. One sentence within the article suggests that some readers have sensed an extramarital affair or an attempted one between Mrs. Mallard and Richards, which, given its inclusion, the authors appear to agree with (Chongyue and Lihua). However, Richards is mentioned by name in the text of the short storythree times: at the beginning when he confirmed the news of Brently Mallard s death, toward the end when he awaited Josephine and Louise at the bottom of the staircase, and when he tries to block Louise from seeing Brently Mallard alive as he walks in the door (Chopin). When an individual s response to stress, their physical body discharges a substance of epinephrine and norepinephrine into the erythrocyte. Additionally, exercising is extremely effective for the body as it reduces the fatigue and enhances the cognitive function. For those who are unwilling to take part in the exercise, sex is another option to lessen stress because it drained all the stressful thought away. A Psychiatrist from Harvard University once said, When two people have sexual intercourse, the releases of oxytocin cut stress related to the brain region , implying sex is a solution to clear up the complexion. The speed at which the piece advances through the cutter is called feed rate, or just feed; it is most often measured in length of material per full revolution of the cutter. As material passes through the cutting area of a milling machine, the blades of the cutter take swarfs of material at regular intervals. This non continuous cutting operation means that no surface cut by a milling machine will ever be completely smooth; at a very close level (microscopic for very fine feed rates), it will always contain regular ridges. These ridges are known as revolution marks, because rather than being caused by the individual teeth of the cutter, they are caused by irregularities present in the cutter and milling machine; these irregularities amount to the cutter being at effectively different heights above the work piece at each point in its rotation. The height and occurrence of these ridges can be calculated from the diameter of the cutter and the feed. These revolution ridges create the roughness associated with surface finish. * Procedure 1. For each target fill rate the proportion of bottles filled correctly had to be determined. This calculation provides a breakdown between cases that can be sold for the full amount of $186 and cases that are designated as seconds, which are sold for 80% of the full price or $148.80. Revenue per case grows continuously as the target fill rate increases. From the blending costs which include $67,662 of active ingredient per 5000 liters, and blending labor of $432 per 5000 liter batch the cost per ounce of medication is approximately $0.40. This provides input for the active ingredient cost. Based on the labor cost of $8.50 per hour at 12 cases per hour, the input for rework cost per case is approximately $0.70 per case. Contribution per case is derived from the revenue minus the costs. The contribution per case is the performance criteria that our decision is based upon. Results A balance between revenue and cost is seen at a target fill rate of 10.4 ounces per bottle. The revenue per case is greater when the bottles are filled to 10.5 ounces; however the resulting increase in the active ingredient cost produces a lower contribution per case. The recommendation is to use a target fill rate of 10.4 ounces per bottle. Initially there will be an increased cost of active ingredients but in the long ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Outline Of A Persuasive Outline Essay Persuasive Outline Generic Topic: Continuation of Gratuity Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience to support the continuation of tipping (in restaurants). Introduction I.Many times my family has gone out to restaurants, having nice experiences. Other visits not so much. One outing in particular, my family and I ate out at an upscale French restaurant in Virginia. The food was good. However, my dad left a small tip for the level of service provided by our snobby waitress. Leaving the restaurant, we heard a Sir! Excuse me, Sir. Our waitress hurried across the parking lot in effort to catch up with us. She asked, Did I do something wrong? In which dad replied, No, you didn t do anything wrong, why? She hastily replied, The tip. The tip, upset with the amount left. II.As a recent employee in the restaurant industry, first as a hostess and later as a waitress, I have had the opportunity to experience the system of tipping not just from a customer s point of view. How Does Eliza Haywood Use Disguise In Fantomina Disguises In the 18th and 19th Century men and women wanted to search for their ideal partner based on their desires while maintaining societal expectations placed on them. If a man or a woman did not have certain traits they were considered unsuitable for marriage. In Eliza Haywood s novel, Fantomina, and Oscar Wilde s play, The Importance of Being Earnest, the impact of these unrealistic expectations are examined. In Fantomina the protagonist s character uses a variety of disguises and power to maintain a sexual relationship with her lover. In Act 2 of the Wilde s play Gwendolyn and Cecily both confront Jack and Algernon about their names. Both men confess that they have been wearing disguises and leading double lives in order to maintain relationships with them. They both apologize for their actions and admit that they have not lived up to the values and attributes associated with the name Earnest. • 22. The Fire Sermon is the third part of The Waste Land . The title is derived from a similar named work by Buddha, which T.S. Eliot himself considered corresponding В…in importance to the sermon of the mountВ… (Eliot 1971: 148). In addition to the title, at the end of the poem Eliot also refers to this work. 3.1 Structure The structure of the Fire Sermon is not easy to analyze. The poem does not have a straight rhyme scheme or rhythm. Its main structural element is variation. Therefore I would suggest seeing the whole poem reflecting the image of a river. This is done on various levels: the actions and places described in the poem merge into one another, the transitions are flowing (cf. line 255 257, where first the record is put on the gramophone and then although there is a shift in place and speaker it says This music crept by me upon the waters ), and also the rhythm and rhyme scheme are constantly changing, so speed and intonation of a reader have to be adapted, just as a river runs sometimes faster and sometimes more slowly. There are parts with much more regular rhythm and rhyme scheme. Especially the part from line 218 I TiresiasВ… until line 256 And puts a recordВ… ). This reflects on the one hand the monotony of the relationship ( love would not be suitable here!) of the described couple and on the other hand this is the part, which is most clearly set in the ... • 23. The Five Factor Model Of Personality The five factor model (FFM) is a contemporary construct describing personality. It incorporates five traits openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness and neuroticism also referred to as OCEAN. Within each dimension, there are specific personality attributes, for example, openness includes subcategories of feelings and actions. The FFM was influenced by Cattell s 16 factor model (1957) and shares traits with many other personality theories such as Eysenck s PEN model. There has been an ongoing debate discussing how many factors appropriately represent the brain structure of personality, suggestions have varied from 2 7, recently Almagor et al. (1995) advocated that a 7 factor model unfolds when evaluative traits are involved. Costa Mcrae (1992) claim that the FFM is the best theory of personality, however, the model has received much criticism. Through examining different aspects of the model its credibility can be explored. Universality is the core basis of a credible theory, studies have been found to replicate the five factors of personality repeatedly. However, this evidence has been obtained purely from replications involving urban and literate populations. Gurven et al. (2013) examined the universality of the theory further by obtaining a sample consisting of 632 Tsimane forager horticultural inhabitants of Bolivia. The sample was, therefore, illiterate and from a native society an area of study not previously conducted for the FFM. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. Gender Gap Between Men And Women Men and women have always played different roles in society. During the beginning of the 19th century, the gap between males and females was much larger than it is now. Back then men and women were usually assumed to have certain occupations. For example, in the 1950s women were supposed to become housewives and stay at home all day cleaning, or taking care of their children (Parry 1584). Due to the media coming out in the 19th century, women began to feel less free. They began to care about their appearance more than anything else. This is one of the factors that created the gendergap, that and the fact that society has always had one. This picture was taken in California in 1921, and it depicts Dr. Louis Estes helping his daughter put on her boxing gloves, while she gets ready to square up against her little brother. The title of the picture describes the daughter as husky which doesn t make much sense. The little girl is not overweight, but it may be referring to that she is more masculine than feminine in the picture. The image has many elements that add to it being such an influential image. It shows the daughter being taller than both males in the photo which asserts dominance. Also, both Dr. Estes and his son s eyes both lead to the daughter which makes her the focal point of the image. Dr. Estes had a reputation for having a peculiar style of raising his children. These languages take a short time to learn, but years to master; and unlike spoken languages they are constantly evolving at a noticeable rate. Changing to accommodate for the webs changing functionality, as it shifted from being only scholarly to include news, entertainment, socializing, and business. In its 28 year life span the web has evolved from the most basic HTMLlayouts to the high functioning responsive sites people are familiar with today. What is known as the World Wide Web was invented by a man named Tim Berners Lee in 1989 (Toshniwal, 2004). He wanted to create a way for scientists and researchers across the world to be able to share documents. With the World Wide Web they would be able to download a collection of documents to a computer, and those documents would be connected to other related documents via hyperlinks (Longman). A hyperlink in a connection from one page to another by clicking it with a mouse, this can be done to images or text. It s common for hyperlinked text to be underlined and a different color than the rest of the text. When creating the World Wide Web Berners Lee also created HTML, which stands for Hypertext Markup Language. • 27. Anecdotal Evidence And Its Impact On The Progress And... Anecdotal evidence is collected in a casual or informal manner and relies heavily or entirely on personal testimony. When compared to other types of evidence, anecdotal evidence is generally regarded as of limited value to a number of potential weaknesses unless documentation and/or statistical evidence is maintained. Anecdotal evidenceis sometimes considered within the scope of scientific method. For example the use of case studies in medicine rely on anecdotal evidence, because some anecdotal evidence can be both empirical and verifiable. This applies also to education. Our assertion, particularly when dealing with students and parents, is that anecdotal information, gleaned from conversation, oral reporting and similar, generally provides far more effective feedback on the progress and development of the student, delineates learning concerns more concisely and allows constructive consideration of possible resolutions. Education has a new push to fully embrace data as the pivot for program delivery but there is significant danger when there is misapplication or misunderstanding regarding the value of the data. Currently, it is hard to attend an education conference or read an education magazine without encountering broad claims for data based decision making and research based practice convenient buzzwords that obscure rather than clarify, to justify incoherent and glib new proposals or courses of action. An AVPD individual may exhibit anxious related behaviours because of their negative mindset, but this is not a key feature for diagnosis. The distinction between both disorders are the emphasis of fear of the social situation (SAD), compared to the fear of being negatively evaluated by others (AVPD). Hirsch and Clark (2004) suggests that individuals with social phobia (SP) experience information processing bias meaning they experience social situations differently. Individuals with SAD were more self critical, had negative expectations, and better at recognizing negative expressions on faces (Hirsch Clark, 2004). When anticipating a social interaction, SAD individuals recalled more negative and less positive traits about themselves (Hirsch Clark, 2004). This can explain their fear, and anxiety, because they were afraid their actions would be negatively evaluated by others (e.g. if they forgot, or stumbled over their lines during a presentation causing embarrassment). On the other hand, AVPD individuals avoid social situations because of their dysfunctional way of thinking. They hold very negative evaluations of themselves that they are socially inadequate and unlikeable (Beck et al., 2001). Thus, they expect others to reject them. • 29. Firing Back At Gun Control Essay Jacob Wilson Ms. Aukes English II 3 September 2014 Firing Back At Gun Control In America there are about 200,000 women that use guns every year to protect themselves against sexual crime (Snyder). Gun control is where the government puts laws on someones ownership of a firearm. Gun control is a tricky topic and has the nation somewhat split both ways on it. 62% think that there is little concern for firearm restriction, while 33% say there is a need to worry about it, and the other 5% are indifferent (Ekins). There are two main groups that are feuding on this topic. Group one is the gun activist, leading the pack for them is the National Rifle Association. This group is for guns and limited laws and regulations on them. Their opposition is the President, liberals and many left wing politicians. This group wants to have strict gun laws and allow nobody to own a gun. Although some people believe guns are wrong they need to become educated in the importance of guns: they can provide a way of life, they are a means of protection, and Americans have a constitutional right to bear arms. For some people owning and using a gun is a way of life. They are hunters, trap shooters, and businessmen. Hunters are able to use a firearm as a means of providing food for their family and the hungry of the community. The Long Road Of Revolution During Colonial America The Long Road to Revolution in Colonial America The four major events during the period of 1763 17751 led to the conflict between colonial America and Great Britain are the Stamp Act, Townshend Acts, Tea Act, Continental Congress. First of all, in February 1765, Grenville escalated his revenue program with the stamp act, precipitating a major conflict between Britain and the colonies over Parliament s right to tax. The Stamp Act imposed a tax on all paper used for official documents newspapers, pamphlets, court documents, licenses, wills, ships cargo lists and required an affixed stamp as proof that the tax had been paid. The Act intensified the conflict between the colonial and Parliament Colonists believed that Parliament had no right to tax the colonies. Sons of Liberty stopped stamped papers from being unloaded at docks. Merchants organized a boycott of British goods. They demanded Parliament repeal the Act. In 1766 Parliament repeal the Act. Secondly, Townshend proposed new taxes in the old form of a navigation act. Officially called the Revenue Act of 1767, it established new duties on tea, glass, lead, paper, and painters colors imported into the colonies, to be paid by the importer but passed on to consumers in the retail price. Climate plays an important environmental influence on our ecosystems, and climate changes and the influences of it affect ecosystems in many ways. Ecosystems are already showing negative impacts under current levels of climate change. One of the biggest issues that we are facing nowadays is global warming. With the global warming and the rising of the temperature of sea water, it has great impact on the species in the ocean. More species is facing extinction and with the rising of temperature, it could force species in the ocean to migrate to higher latitudes where temperatures are lower and easier to survive. In this research, I would like to know if global warming would force fishmigrate to north or not. I will test the sea water temperature and the survivability of zooplankton with different water temperature. By doing this research, it enables us to understand the habit of species in the ocean and to avoid the extinction of certain species. This research will also prove that global warming influences the whole ocean ecosystem and we should recognize this issue and think what we can do to reduce and slow down the damage to the ocean. As the temperature of water is rising, warm water fish are expanding into areas where was previously inhabited by coldwater species and cause coldwater species losing their habitats. When waters turning warmer due to global warming, the area that allow coldwater species to migrate is reduced, and this might cause some species extinct. Some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Stoichiometry Lab Report Stoichiometric Reactions with Phosphoric Acid By Jaime Conklin Partner: Deanna Ryan CHE 120 03 Instructor: Mr. Cusumano September 30, 2015 Purpose The purpose of this experiment is to examine the stoichiometric relationship between reagents and the identity of the products by using three acid/base neutralization reactions of a triprotic acid, phosphoric acid, and varying molar equivalents of sodium hydroxide. The data will be used to determine the formula weight of the products and identify the remaining salt for all three reactions. Introduction In this experiment, we learned about stoichiometry, empirical formula, molecular formula, polyprotic acids and bases, metathesis reactions, and moles. Stoichiometry is a very important part of chemistry. Stoichiometry refers to calculating the masses of molecules and their products . The reactants are usually given and stoichiometry is used to find the products of the equations as well balancing the equation. An example of this would be sodium chloride (NaCl). Stoichiometry will say that if there are ten thousand atoms of sodium and one atom of chlorine, only one molecule of sodium chloride can be made and that fact can never be changed. Ex: 10,000Na + 1Cl в†’ NaCl + 9,999Na Empirical formulas represent the ratio of atoms in a formula. It is expressed in the simplest, small, whole number ratio. This type of researchis primary gathering information for the early stages of a question. One of the major reasons for doing qualitative researchis to become more experienced with the phenomenon you are interested in. Qualitative data collections are particularly helpful when the event is not of importance, but rather how the event may influence a sequence of other actions. • 38. The Causes Of Human Growth And The Endocrine System In mammals, we find that the body requires certain systems to function properly and effectively in order to grow. The endocrine system is one of the physiological systems that primarily regulates growth and plays a vital role in the onset of post natal growth as well as the onset and cessation of pubertal growth. There are also other contributors such as nutrition and genetics, etc. that influence these growth patterns. The endocrine systemis a vital messaging system that relies completely on hormonedelivery to specific cells. The medium of this delivery is the blood in the venous system which means that the hormones secreted can reach target cells often located far from the endocrine glands; this is an efficient method as the endocrine system regulates activities that require duration rather than speed. This efficient system means that homeostasis can be maintained. As the hormones are distributed in the blood through the venous system, this results in the whole body being exposed to these hormones and therefore the fact that only the target cells have specific binding receptors for the particular hormone means that only those target cells will respond to the exposure of the hormone. Once the hormone is bound to its specific target cell receptors, a chain of events within the target cells occurs that brings about the hormones final effect. An example of this is when Assif is beating up Amir: [Amir] What was so funny was that, for the first time since the winter of 1975 I felt at peace. I laughed because I saw that, in some nook in the corner of my mind, I had been looking forward to this. (Hosseini 289). This quote shows us that while Assif is beating Amir, Amir s guilt is dieing down and he is at peace. This also shows that Amir would do anything for Hassan and in a way he is redeeming himself for what he did to Hassan. The moral of The Kite Runner is that no matter the sin, there is always a chance for redemption. The themes of loyalty, sacrifice and betrayal that are present throughout this novel leads to the lesson of redemption for Amir. In Antigone there are multiple lessons that the play teaches us, one of them is that too much pride is going to lead to misfortune and another one is don t try to change your fate. If a webpage is created in 2000 we would assume it will be archived several times. However, if the webpage is created yesterday we would assume it might not be archived or at least once. So here we want to figure out the creation date of our collection and make sure we have a different variety of creation years. One method to determine when the URIs are created is to find out when was the domain name created. This can be done using the Whois protocol [14]. However, using this method we only found 3533 creation date out of 7976 Arabic seed URIs . The oldest creation date we found using this method in our collection of Aranic seed URIs was 1996. Another method is the carbon date tool, it searches for creation date in the indexed search engines, archived in the public archives, and shared in the social media and save the oldest date found as the creation date. We have to note that creation dates obtained are just an estimate [15]. Figure 3 shows the creation date and its frequency. It shows we have a large distribution of creation dates. Throughout history music has been a way for our people to speak out against the government or follow their commands. There is a great irony that a lot of these songs nowadays all tie together to portray the same message, and this is not a coincidence. Today, hip hop has taken the lead in protesting police brutality and the injustices suffered by the poor. Within the selection of songs, the audience can see how the government tries to control us, as well as how there is still much racism going on today. Joey s song, Temptations, explores the issue of racial equality and the struggle of being black in America. Growing up in a poor neighborhood not having your rent on time because your mom works a nine to five job that s just enough to make a living as a result of how the government has set up the average person to be, I really came up from the bottom / Strugglin , my momma on her last dollar / Hustling man I ve been putting in these hours / The government been trying to take away what s ours (line 18 21). The chemical energy provided by the fuel allows the engine to transmit power for a myriad of uses in the marine industry including power and propulsion or a combination of the both. The results of combustion include heat and exhaust gases. These exhaust gases, in addition to cost, make fuel injectionsystems more important today than ever. The International Maritime Organization s Marine Pollution Prevention annex VI has established new regulations for nitric oxides, and sulfur oxide emissions which are the by products of fuel combustion. Electronic fuel injection systems play a important role in the reduction of these emissions by improving the efficiency of fuel combustion. The main function of the fuel oil injection system is to provide the right amount of fuel at the right time. When you mix Tap water and an Antacid Tablet the results are production of gas. Gas can be harmful and can escape very easily out of a container. The gas will go into the air and will remain there causing the air to be harmful. One safe way to collect this gas is to place a balloon over the container. The gas will rise up and inflate the balloon and the gas will remain sealed in the balloon. This is a safe way to extract the gas as it will make sure none of the gas can escape to harm people. The results are accurate for Part A because Part A follows the law of conservation of mass. This means that the total mass of the reactants would be equal to the total mass of the products, and in Part A this did occur.
