This essay Me Talk Pretty One Day about the author David Sedaris stands one of his phenomenal

As human beings, it is natural to judge people who are different than ourselves. Most often these
judgements are based off of common beliefs, or stereotypes. Stereotypes apply to every group,
from the slow moving elderly to lively cheerleaders. Usually these beliefs do not describe every
person in a group, but they all receive the same labels. Cheerleaders make up one group that is
commonly stereotyped, but many people don t know the true nature of cheerleading.
Countless stereotypes that I have about cheerleaders have been ingrained into my mind by the
media, and from personal experience. From what I had observed in high school, cheerleaders are
the popular girls with plenty of friends. Not being associated with a cheerleader meant that you
weren t on the map. Promiscuity was also an extremely prominent stereotype in high school, which
had always shocked me since the cheerleaders seemed like a nasty group of girls. Cheerleaders
also have a reputation of being air headed or simply not intelligent. As an outsider, they did not
give me the impression of being book smart, especially at my high school. Another stereotype that
I have is that cheerleaders aren t entirely athletic. Yes, cheerleading is a sport. Yes, it can be

Abnormal behaviors are seen daily, especially in an Parks Department building in Pawnee,
Indiana. In the TV show Parks and Rec, a character by the name of Leslie Knope displays a
personality that one can identify as quirky and out of the ordinary. Her behaviors can be analyzed
as unusual, self defeating, socially unacceptable, and causing personal distress. The times Leslie
Knope has shown characteristics of being unusual is numerous. In almost every episode of Parks
and Recreation, Leslie portrays a behavior that is out of the ordinary, and among a minority. An
example of odd behavior would be when Andy Dwyer, a coworker of Leslie, is having his leg
casts removed after falling into a pit. Leslie Knope is with him at the doctor s office, and asks to

to capture the penguins from the zoo in Indiana, locks them in car seats, and drive them to a zoo
in Iowa. The last display of unusualness is when Leslie is trying to make up a story to a park
ranger to explain what happened when someone accidently got shot. She takes the blame for no
apparent reason, and tries to come up with a reasonable explanation on what happened. Rather than
coming up with a reason that actually makes sense, she goes on a tangent off random things that
have nothing to do with what the park ranger had asked her. Along with showing traits of being

Moving on, any skeptic reading this book would surely have a plethora of questions for the
professor. How, exactly, does one come up with the statistic of 1/25 in regards to the ratio of
sociopaths to normal people? This question is rather baffling because, in the book, Stout states
that there are many sociopaths which feign emotion for the sole purpose of progressing in life.
How, then, do these people, faking a conscious, admit themselves to being a full fledged
sociopath when they have been lying to themselves and others around them for the bulk of their
lives? Stout either did not factor these individuals into her statistical evaluation, which would
mean a great number more of sociopaths than perceived through this book, or that Stout, with this
knowledge, made a conjecture. In any case, especially in the latter, this statistic cannot be trusted
and should therefore not be taken as hard fact. Another gaping problem in this book is the lack of
perspective provided by Stout in regards to a true sociopath, one that admits they have not
remorse, no conscience; one who only wants to win. It would have been an eye opening
experience to truly view the world through the eyes of a sociopath, which could have been

The irony of the Pardoner is based on his hypocritical actions. The fact that he does not care about
the souls of those he has tricked, says a lot about his character. Near the end of his tale, the friends
begin to reveal their true personality. All three of them turn on each other trying to steal the
treasure for themselves. All of the trust, which they had promised, was a lie and no loyalty
remained. The supposed faithful friends display their true cruelty and expose their hypocrisy in
relation to the Pardoner s character.
One main theme in The Wife of Bath s Tale is female dominance and equality. In the tale, the wife
portrays her dominance through her own experience. For example, the image of the whip sets her
role as master, and she tells everyone that she is the head of her household. Despite her claim that
experience is her sole power, the Wife of Bath evidently feels the need to create her authority in a
more scholarly manner. She mimics the habits of the scholars and churchmen by supporting her
claims with quotations from antique works and scripture.
The Wife of Bath apparently attempts to emphasize female dominance over men. She contradicts
many of the harsh customs and declares her own haughty assessment of women s function in
society and in relationships. In the story, Chaucer explains that what women want is sovereignty
over their husbands. According to the tale, women desire to be treated as masters over their love.

The famous Hollywood director, Steven Spielberg, through his 1998 blockbuster film Saving
Private Ryan, gave us a glimpse into the realities of war, in particular, World War II s D day
invasion and the immediate aftermath, as it played out in the European theater. The story opens
with a prologue, in which a veteran brings his family to the American cemetery at Normandy,
and in a flashback he joins Captain John Miller, played by Tom Hanks, and GIs in a landing craft
making the June 6, 1944 approach to Omaha Beach to face devastating German artillery fire.
