Salvador Dali was a famous Spanish surrealist painter born in 1904 in Spain. He studied art in Madrid and joined the surrealist movement in 1929 after meeting his muse and wife Gala. Some of his most famous works include "The Persistence of Memory" depicting melting clocks, and "The Making of a New Man" showing the developmental stages of man. Dali was influenced by surrealism's emphasis on dream imagery and the subconscious mind. He was eventually expelled from the surrealist group due to disagreements but had great success with exhibitions of his work in the US and Europe.
