Instructors can embed videos and upload multiple files to topics in D2L. They can include notes when uploading files by using the comments tab. Instructors cannot edit navigation bar names but can link to internal pages from the news page. Intelligent agents can be used to email instructors. Release conditions allow restricting access to items. The preview function shows links as non-functional for students. Quizzes can be randomized by importing questions to the library and creating random folders. Students do not see exam difficulty levels, which cannot be hidden. Timing issues on quizzes can be investigated using the quizzes event log.

A manual to help busy teachers get started with Moodle 1.9. Does not try to cover everything - just some of the most commonly used resources and activities. Does not cover every setting either.
For IDT 6700 we were tasked to redesign a technology of choice, which was Blackboard for this final project. The course tools I focused specifically on the redesign was the journal tool and session timeout warning. After initial prototype, focus group, and product evaluation I redesigned the Blackboard layout as displayed.

The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

As far as I can tell, PPTs are viewable in

Yes. Use the Edit HTML Source option
found in the lower left corner of a textbox

The newer version of D2L which we will be
patching in mid-February is supposed to
include a designated tool for embed codes in

Is there a way not to have all of the parent
modules automatically expanded?
They are initially expanded so the user is
able to view all course materials, but once
closed, they will remain that way until
opened again.

Not at this time.
I can create topics under modules, but can I
create subtopics under my topics?
Modules can have many submodules, which
can also have submodules. However, topics
are the items in the folder. So think of topics
as the file, while modules are the tree of
folders leading up to it.
2. Can I upload more than one file to a topic? You can upload multiple files per module.
When adding a file, you can click on “save
and new” and it will prompt you to a new file
upload window.
How do I include notes with files uploaded to
topics?
When uploading your file, there is a
“comments” tab. You can write your notes on
there. If your file has been previously added,
you can edit the file and click on the
comments tab as well.
Why can’t I see my short titles? Short titles are used for the Content Map.
You see the Content Map sidebar after you
click on and are viewing a piece of content.
Can I link to pages within a course from the
news page?
Yes, click on insert quicklink, select the area
of the course (i.e. Content) and choose the
page to link to.
Can I import Web CT or BB text banks into
D2L?
Yes, Web CT and D2L share formats
Can I use Respondus with d2l? Yes
How do I create a purely external link that is
not connected to bb/d2l?
Oddly, if you create the link from the News, it
is a pure link, but from Content it adds the
bb/d2l prefix.
How do I address the students’ by their
names in the news section?
You would need to use Replace Strings.
For example, to use the students first name
you would use {firstname} and place it where
you would want the name to appear.
Ex: Welcome {firstname}!
will appear: Welcome Adriana!

What is an activity? Activity is referred to any clicks made in your
course. A student’s last activity was the last

Select the attempt and then select “quizzes
event log” to determine where the problem
might have occurred.
How do I delete a quiz attempt? Select display options, select allow resest (a
trash can will appear), then select the attempt
and then select delete.
How do I submit an attempt for a student? Select the human figure icon next to the
students name to enter as the student.
I’d like to time my exams, but over ⅓ of my
students had a timing out problem. They
were still able to access the exam after an
entire day. That is not what I want to have
happen, but I have no idea how to address
the issue.
