GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Even though most people will use the path from the Kelly website that will be established, they may wish to just type in your URL. Notice that your URL does not contain www. Instead it will be http:// __________.blogspot.com

40. Popular gadgets When there are sites you want your kids to visit, use this gadget.
41. I don’t usually limit the number of links and I don’t usually sort. You must copy the URL in the address bar of your selected site and paste it into the line with New Site URL. Don’t forget to delete the http:// first. Then you have to give it a name so that the kids know what they are pushing. Don’t forget to save!
42. I know that some administrators feel that the form that parents complete at the beginning of the school year is all that you must check from cumulative folders in order to publish. I felt the need to have my parents involved and decided to use an additional form which clearly states what you are going to be doing with the blog pictures/videos of their students. I will email each of you that form for your consideration. Second, I added a page to the document to ask parents if they wished their child to be named by first name only or not at all. Some did request that their student’s name not be used. This is really important to know, therefore, the form is helpful. Posting Pictures or Video of Your Students
43. Use this gadget to insert pictures. You can take pictures from your computer by browsing or from the web by clicking the second button.
44. Adding video With the new Flip cameras, you are going to want to do this a lot! This is the easiest way that I’ve discovered. Go to Posting Tab and select New Post. Type the title of the flip video that you have uploaded from Flip software. Press the add video icon above.
45. When you choose the add video icon in the post window, you will see this screen. You must click browse and find the folder that the Flip software saves to your desktop after it has prepared the files for uploading. Open that folder and select the video you want. Give your new video the title you wish to use on the blog. Agree to the terms and click upload. It a takes a few minutes.
46. You will need to go to a new website to prepare your power point/slideshow for your blog, but it is very simple once you get used to it. Adding Slides or Powerpoint
48. This website is free and will allow you to do most anything that you would need at school. Press upload.
49. Press the sign up button and sign up. The free option is enough for you in most cases at school.
50. Now you are ready to browse your computer and select the power point file you wish to post to your blog. Let’s try one. If you have a power point on your computer, you can follow along and post it to your new blog. If you don’t, you can watch me.

52. Once uploaded you must complete this screen. Then press publish all (if you have 1 or more slide presentations uploaded). You can delete it if you change your mind.
53. While it is being converted, you will see this screen.
60. If you see this then you were successful. Close it. You can now check your blog to see if it is posted.
61. Sometimes you will want to add things like a widget. Don’t ask me to define it, but I’ll show you one you might like in your blog. Use the HTML/JavaScript link below.
62. This screen will show. You give it a title after finding the widget you want to use from the net. You will need to copy the links provided by your widget site into the content box below. Don’t forget to save.
63. This is the widget we’ll use today. Go to http://whos.amung.us/
64. Choose the map widget from the top of the screen. It will become visible as you scroll over it. Then pick build your free map now.
