Jesus Is The Name Of The Word
Jesus is the name we often used in English translation but comes from the Latin form of the Greek
name Joshua. The name also related to the Hebrew verb root and its noun forms Yesua, which means
deliver. The name is also related to the Old Testament term YHWH saves.
Therefore, the exact term Savior appears first, and is spoken by the Samaritans in John 4:42. The title
Nazarene applied to Jesus has been also used to describe Christians in Syria and Arabic traditions.
Although some of the terms and titles referring to Jesus in both New and Old Testament have deeper
meaning such as: Emmanuel, Lord, Messiah and son of man.
The Gospel of Matthew provides the name Emmanuel, which is taken from Isaiah 7:14, where it refers
to another child born ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The birth of Jesus, on the other hand, counterbalanced the fall of Adam, bringing forth redemption and
repairing the damage done by Adam.
The theme is reiterated by Paul, in Romans 5:18 21, when he states:
Therefore just as one man s trespass led to condemnation for all, so one man s act of righteousness
leads to justification and life for all. For just as by the one man s disobedience the many were made
sinners, so by the one man s obedience the many will be made righteous. But law came in, with the
result that the trespass multiplied; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, just
as sin exercised dominion in death, so grace might also exercise dominion through justification*
leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Second of all, Jesus referring as lord is the ultimate reason that I put on my faith and surround my life
to him. Early Christians viewed Jesus as the Lord which mean God, lord or master appears over 700
times in the New Testament, referring to him. In Greek this has at times been translated as Kyrios.
While the term Mari expressed the relationship between Jesus and his disciples during his life, the
Greek Kyrios came to represent his lordship over the world. According to Romans 10:9 13 Paul
emphasized the value of the title, and stated that confessing by mouth and belief that Jesus is Lord you
will be save which signifies

Church In The Canterbury Tales
Canterbury is an English cathedral city which was a popular pilgrimage site in the
Medieval Era. However, in the Middle Ages, the members of the clergy did not always live up to their
lofty expectations and standards. The Church s credibility, at this time, was diminishing due to the
actions of its officials. Geoffrey Chaucer, author of The Canterbury Tales, took this pilgrimage and
along the way met a few of these questionable clerical figures. During the
General Prologue of the work, Chaucer provides a comical representation of all the characters he
meets on his journey. His description of clerical members, such as the Monk, criticize their actions and
interests. In addition to the Monk, he meets a nun with questionable morals and a deceitful, selfish
friar. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The idea of the Nun relaxing on this principle exhibits the decline of the Church s credibility. In
addition to her lax fashion choices, the Nun spoils herself in her diet. Similar to monks, nuns
maintained a very strict lifestyle. Chaucer s Nun fails to abide with this minimalist culture when it
comes to food.
Chaucer describes her as by no means undergown which insinuates that she is not a dainty woman like
her peers (GP 160). Nuns, like monks, also prohibited the donning of jewelry or other items personal
items. Once again, the Nun fails to observe this ideal and proceeds to bear a glaring brooch on her
clothing (GP 164). In addition to this, Chaucer observes, She wore a coral trinket on her arm which
further defies the monastic code (162). Furthermore, the Nun is by no means an upstanding member of
the medieval clerical community. Chaucer s portrayal of the Nun as a immoral and pompous figure
further aids the argument of the Church s hypocrisy.
Continuing the themes of hypocrisy and corruption, Chaucer s Friar contradicts his divine position
with his deceitful actions towards society. He exploits his position in order to get

Thomas Hobbes Theory Of Natural Law
For many years now, political philosophy has been dealing with ideas on how to make society more
moral, unprejudiced and just. Within this concept is whether laws and rules created in society are
moral and fair and how these can vary between human beings and traditions. Therefore the whole
notion of Natural Law governing society has been reached from different conclusions, which in turn
sees Thomas Hobbes social contract theory as opposing to St. Thomas Aquinas theory of natural law.
Yet this does not change the fact that many Western democracies base their moral decision making
within Hobbes concept. (Kenney, 2005)
The theory formulated by Hobbes, argued that the laws of nature are to be seen as divine law, in which
all human beings are bound by these basic natural laws of self preservation which directs them to the
way of the good. (Murphy, 2011)
Hobbes rejected the concept of higher law and argued that the citizens ought to accept the traditional
laws and principles of their state even if they were oppressive in order to keep peace and security.
(Kraynak, 1990)
In contrast to this, St. Thomas Aquinas, who was heavily influenced by Aristotle s ideas of universal
and conventional law and expanded and developed them. (Vieru, 2010)
His ideas centre his notion of natural law, with his knowledge of God. He bases his theory of natural
law in the concept of an eternal law, which is in God. For Aquinas, law is an order of reason from God
for all of the community. (Summa

Roman Gods In The Aeneid
Myths are the stories and legends that make up the Roman religion. According to An Introduction to
Roman Religion written by John Scheid, religion is defined as a set of formal, objective rules,
bequeathed by tradition. It was within the framework of those traditional rules and that system of
etiquette that an individual established a relationship with the god s (Scheid 22). This quote is showing
that the Roman religion is based on myths that the roman people used to understand how to worship
their god s and create their cultures view of the world. There are countless myths in the Roman
religion and they are the key components to what these people believed and how they worshipped
their gods and deities of the time. The myths of the Roman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is the story of the Contest of Arachne and Minerva. In this story Arachne, who is a common girl
who is only well known for art in wool working, challenges the god Minerva to a weaving contest.
Minerva comes down in disguise and tries to get Arachne to recant on her challenge. This does not
work and Arachne doubles down on the challenge by saying you doddering old fool, coming in here
like this. You ve lived to long, is your problem. Go talk to your daughter in law, your daughter
whatever.... I haven t changed my mind. Why does your goddess avoid a contest with me? Why doesn
t she come herself? (Ovid 148). then the goddess Minerva reveals herself to Arachne and the challenge
began. After completing their respected works, Arachne s was so beautiful Minerva had no choice but
to admit that it was perfect. This angered Minerva and caused her to begin beating Arachne since a
mortal person beat her. Arachne eventually hung herself. This caused Minerva to feel pity and bring
her back to life as a spider as punishment for challenging her. This story is meant to show that you do
not challenge a god, even if you think that you are better than them. This story shows that you need to
respect the god and goddess and not to challenge their authority. This is very clearly written in An
Introduction to Roman Religion, when Scheid writes The Romans, like the Greeks, accepted the
fundamental principle that the gods lived

4. I would hire a medical doctor as a testifying expert witness.
Expert witnesses can play various roles, such as a consultant who is a non testifying expert (FRE 701);

Observation of Sub-Atomic Particles
1. A) Part of the wave might penetrate it or it might not. This would be random and would depend on
the energy of the electron attempting to penetrate.
B) The pattern that initially seemed random would begin to acquire uniformity. Half of the electrons
would transmit and half would reflect and go back. Each of the electrons that transmitted would carry
its complete charge and mass.
C) One cannot say where the electron really is, whether a given electron will transmit or reflect. It is
only possible to state the probability of electrons actions. For example, one may say that the
probability is one in five that the electron will transmit and four out of five that it will be reflected
back.
D) Some physicists find the result difficult to accept because they perceive it as what Einstein called
God playing dice with the universe . The unpredictability inherent with this result and the fact that it
seems to contradict both Newtonian physics as well as reality, make it a less than ideal paradigm for
many physicists.
E) David Hume would have vehemently objected to my answer on part C). Hume s word view was
largely based on the belief that, to understand events in the universe, we must look to their cause. This
casual link is, therefore, disrupted under the conditions witnessed in the aforementioned experiment,
as we can see a cause but the result side of the chain is unknown.

Gandhi and the Journey of Independence
Intorduction
In History, we have always learned about heroes, leaders, and people who made accomplishments that
in a way have changed the world. We live for what others have done. Any courageous step taken by an
individual in order to achieve a goal, a belief, and seek for a right, comes only from a person with
leadership, huge spirit, and greatness. We have always looked back at leaders in our history that have
made life easier for us. For that, I would like to write about an extraordinary personality that has
achieved a big, difficult step for the good of Indians. Mohandas Gandhi is considered for many people

several thinkers, and this is where he planned his first Satyagraha. Influenced by a variety of writers

devotion to truth ), a new non violent way to redress wrongs. (BBC.co, 2006)
Success of Satyagraha
He was interested in religions and ethics early in his childhood, but he started studying them later in
life. In his first year in South Africa he read quite eighty books , most of them on religion. (BBC.com,
2006) Thoreau was among his favorite writers, as he remarked the idea of civil disobedience into
Gandhi s thoughts. Tolstoy as well had a big influence on Gandhi. Tolstoy s bold idealism and fearless
candour gripped him, his Christian anarchism dissipated the spell of institutional religion. Tolstoy s
emphasis on the necessity of an accord between moral principles and daily life confirmed his own
strivings for self improvement. (BBC.com, 2006) Gandhi started teaching Indians about the civil
disobedience, as they started to disobey and challenge the humiliating laws in a meant that the Indians
would disobey the fair laws in a peacefully, quite, and nonviolence way. If they were attacked,

What Is Walt Disney s Legacy
A Legacy that Lives On Disney is worth around 165 billion dollars, it s hard to imagine that the man
that created this company was in debt most of his life (Greene). Walt Disney had many struggles in
this life, including debt, but he worked through them all. In the legacy unit, we have been researching
people that have left a tremendous impact on the world. Walt Disney is a perfect example because of
his tangible work such as his cartoons, movies, and of course Disneyland. As well as his wonderful
charisma and hard work.
Walt Elias Disney was born December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. When Walt was around ten years
Walt and his family moved to Kansas City. Walt s family consisted of his father (Elias Disney), his
mother (Flora Disney), and his four siblings (Roy, Raymond, Herbert, and Ruth). Walt was a kid who
cared less about school work, and more about having fun with it. He was known to draw on his
homework more than complete it. As he got older he started having jobs based around drawing.
Eventually, Walt decided to his own cartoon business (Greene). This small, inexperienced business is
what led to Mickey Mouse, then to various Disney movies, and to eventually to Disneyland.
Walt Disney accomplished many things in his lifetime. He has won 58 awards and had been
nominated for 46 times other awards (IMDb). He has won several Academy Awards, the Presidential

Essay on History of Smallpox
The History of Smallpox
Abstract
The history of smallpox goes back for thousands of years. It is thought to have appeared as much as
10,000 years ago and since then, it has claimed the lives of millions of people, many of whom have
been famous figures in history. After a vaccine was discovered in 1796, countries throughout the
world began the fight to eradicate the disease. This fight was won in 1980 as a result of the
international effort headed by the World Health Organization. Today, smallpox is no longer a threat in
nature but the virus is still stored in labs, from which a biological weapon could be made.
Until its eradication, smallpox was a disease that had been ravaging the human race for a very long
time. It emerged as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Cortez first sailed into what is now Mexico, he brought with him five hundred men. This small
number would have been not nearly enough to defeat the battle hardened Aztec empire. They carried
with them the smallpox virus which killed off an estimated 3.5 million natives, allowing the Spanish
to obtain control (Baxby 13). Although this transmission was helpful, it was innocent. Later, however,
people would get wise to the power of smallpox as a biological weapon. In the French and Indian War,
Sir Jeffery Amherst was the British commander in chief for the war. In a letter to Colonel Henry
Bouquet, he said that Could it not be Contrived to Send the Small Pox among those Disaffected Tribes
of Indians? We must... Use Every Stratagem in our power to Reduce them (Hoplow 62). In this way,
the plan was started to infect blankets with the smallpox virus and then give said blankets to the
Native Americans as a perceived act of good will.
In addition to the millions of regular people that smallpox killed or scarred during its years of rampage
across the globe, it also nabbed some famous victims. The virus has ruthlessly taken kings, queens,
czars, and emperors. In 1157 BC, the pharaoh of Egypt, Ramses V died suddenly and when his tomb
was found and opened, archeologists found that his body was covered with pustules that looked
strikingly like smallpox. Queen Elizabeth I of England was a victim of the disease but was able to

Gun Violence in Missouri
Missouri is an amazing state, full of interesting sights and sounds. There is the towering, metal Saint
Louis Arch. The massive and beautiful Union Station. The large wheat fields, the long flowing
Missouri river, and the large, beautiful Ozarks forests. Missouri, even after these things, like any
states, is not perfect. Unlike some states however, Missouri has many flaws that can very easily be
fixed, but the problem is that Missouri government is not doing much to stop it, one of the biggest
problems being gun control. We are losing so many lives in major shootings at schools. The part that
makes me mad is that after mourning the loss for a bit, we move on, forgetting the tragedy left behind.
Missouri is not being very strict about these gun laws, and it is hurting us in the social look from other
states, and making us seem like a state that doesn t care. We need to take control of these gun laws to
make Missouri a safer place. To begin, Missouri is one of the worst states for gun control laws. The
Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence gave Missouri an F for gun violence, and out of all the states
Missouri ranked 39th out of 50 having enacted few gun violence prevention laws. ( Missouri State
Law Summary. ) The thing is, that Missouri HAS disallowed the permit to purchase, the registration,
and the licensing to owners of all guns. The problem is, is that even though you are not allowed to
carry a rifle or shotgun around, you can carry a handgun around, which is what has

The Emergence Of WWI
World War I was the beginning of a new era in world history. It marked the downfall of empires and
the growth of new democratic nations. Although it was a violent war and cost former empires in lives
and resources, after the war the world saw more independent nations and, as the title of the Clements
text says, The Emergence of the Americas (Clements). Although each nation had different paths to,
during, and after the war, in general the nations of the Americas benefit greatly while those in Europe
had to deal with its consequences. Due the various paths each nation took, the various sources
(Clements, Oxford, Zinn, Jackson, and Keylor) also reflect this divergence in consistency of WWI
accounts and effects. The five sources can be compared ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin in all the texts, it is agreed that before the war began there was a huge international economic
depression which hurt mostly the Latin American nations. One perspective on Latin America saw a
low in foreign investments before the onset of war due to their monoculture and lack of internal
development and depending on foreign investment (Clements). This makes them very sensitive to
economic changes like the one just before the world war. In contrast, some saw Latin America as a
rapidly growing region, with increases in European migrants (especially German) bring stronger
industries and more investments (Oxford). In addition, according to these historians, the more
aggressive economic changes brought by the German can be interpreted as an economic imperialism
lead by the German Kiser s wanting an empire under the sun (Oxford). During the onset of the war,
many nations saw a cut off imports and exports due to tariffs, blockades, and U boat patrols
(Clements). In Peru, there was a food shortage within the first few weeks of the war in Europe, which
caused internal strife and tension, putting blame on the native/migrated German population
(Clements). In Brazil, German U boats severely impeded on their exports and when they finally
destroyed the key export ships Rio Branco, Paraná, and Macau, the Brazilians declared war on the
Central Powers (Clements). On the brighter side, many nations like Argentina, Mexico, and Peru saw
increases in nitrate, metal, beef, and oil exports, which helped fund internal development (funding
domestic industries), but helped little for their future development (Clements). Moving north, in the
United States, Americans saw strong anti German propaganda, but also an initial want for neutrality.
Many Americans wanted neutrality because, one, their large immigrant population opposed such
actions, two, the U.S. was

Ancient Roman Entertainment Essay
Citizens in ancient Rome held their entertainment close. Entertainment was free, and appealed to all
social classes, from slaves to the emperor. Two forms of entertainment are chariot racing and gladiator
fights. These were two of the more popular forms of entertainment available to the average Roman
citizens.
The first form of entertainment I am going to talk about is chariot racing. Chariot racing was the most
popular form of entertainment. It appealed to all social classes, from the lowly slaves to the senators
and the emperor. Juvenal s famous saying panem et circenses has become a sign of entertainment
appeasing people throughout the ages. Although there was no public betting one the races, there was a
large amount of private betting that went on and the chance of earning money probably attracted even
more popularity to the races. The races were so popular that many household items were decorated
with symbols from the racing.
The racers were divided into four different teams, called factions (factiones). These were coloured and
their names came from the colours themselves: the Greens, the Reds, the Blues and the Whites. The
green and blue factions were the most powerful, and later on in the empire, they absorbed the other
two into their ranks. The factions were not just racing teams, they also had political influence. Most
Roman citizens became racing fanatics, supporting one of the factions. Some citizens even resorted to
magic to foul their opponents, showed

The Tactical Value Of Rfid
Abstract
Academic researchers have recognised a gap exists between the actual and potential values of radio
frequency identification (RFID) technology in supply chain industry. This paper provides
understanding into the tactical value of RFID by building a concept on how RFID used in supply
chain management may create and withstand a competitive advantage. This reading uses a simulation
model to determine the anticipated benefits of an integrated RFID system on a three echelon supply

INTRODUCTION
RFID refers to any system that can transmit identification numbers over radio. RFID system is made
up of a unique identification number, which is allocated to a specific item, an identity tag which is
attached to the item with a chip capable of storing a unique identification number, networked RFID
readers and data processing systems that are capable of collecting signals from multiple tags at high
speeds and of pre processing this data, and one or more networked databases that store the product
information RFID is a wireless technology, which allows transmission of information without the
physical connection. In its most basic form, an RFID system has two components: tags and readers. A
tag (transponder) consists of a microchip that stores identification data of the item to which it is
attached and an antenna to transmit this data via radio waves. A reader (interrogator) sends out a radio
signal and prompts the tag to broadcast the data contained on its chip. The reader then converts the
radio waves returned from the tag into digital data and forwards them to a computer system. A reader
can scan an area for any tags that are tuned to the same frequency as the reader. The frequency on
which the RFID system operates designates the intensity of the radio waves used to transmit
information and is a key factor in determining performance levels and applications for the system.
Nearly all RFID systems operate

things that are ethical and legal. Besides, Avid Life Media pursuing the hackers for stealing private

The first one being, the entire business of having a website for people to have affairs on. Although it is
legal to cheat in a relationship, it is morally wrong, marry or not to have an affair because it says
immoral things about your emotional traits and affects your family and social circle. The last portion
of this story that is not surprising is the website is mostly made up of men, so there are many fake
women profiles. Thus many men are not finding a real person to have an affair with. However, it is
legal for Ashley Madison to this because they are bending the truth and have a disclaimer in the terms
of service to protect them from legal action. They don t guarantee you will find a date and you

put this topic in this category, is if you re going to promote having affair, why isn t the company all in

In contrast, an issue that is ethical but, not legal is Impact Team hacking Ashley Madison, and the
reason why is there is proof from these hacks of Avid Life Media not deleting data that was supposed
to be erased. So, going after a website that does mischievous acts and has a motto that promotes

What Is John Steinbeck s Message In Of Mice And Men
During the early years of the Great Depression, hundreds of thousands of American workers became
out of work and began to travel across the country, in search of work, and the fabled American Dream.
John Steinbeck s novel, Of Mice and Men, a historical fiction piece, follows the struggles of two such
American workers, on their journey through the tumultuous era of the Great Depression. However the
novel s message comes from the struggles of the two main characters, George and Lenny, and the
actions they must take to overcome the obstacles in front of them. Steinbeck s purpose for writing the
novel was to express his views on the American Dream and express his experiences through the
characters he creates. The messages that Steinbeck conveys through his novel are how impossible it
truly is to achieve the American Dream, and how it is the nature of man to prey on the weak; this
message adding to the impossibility of the American dream, men making it impossible for their fellow
man to succeed.
As Steinbeck writes the novel, he imbues the story, with his own personal knowledge of the times, as
much of the fictional setting comes from his own experiences supporting himself as a laborer in
California, struggling to achieve his own American Dream. While the American Dream ... Show more

Medtronic s Ratings Earning Power I would rank Medtronic s earning power at a 9 on a scale of 1
(very weak) to 10 (very strong). Medtronic has successfully demonstrated their ability to grow and
provide substantial return to their owners. Medtronic s net earnings have steadily increased from
$984.0 million in 2002, to $1599.8 million in 2003, to $1959.3 million in 2004. Their total assets have
increased 13.7% from $12,405.5 million in 2003 to $14,110.8 million in 2004. These measures show
that Medtronic has been successful in generating profits and increasing their net assets. These
measures have steadily been increasing and therefore this type of progress can reasonably be expected
to persist in the future. Total liabilities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This account only made up 8% of the current liabilities for this year. These two facts show that the
accounts payable does not seem to be a significant form of financing. The company is not relying
heavily upon accounts receivable and is probably not having a difficult time generating cash to pay to
suppliers. One last measure used to determine the ranking provided for Medtronic s solvency was the
debt/equity ratio. Using this ratio, we see that the average total liabilities only make up 56% of the
total Stockholder s equity. This shows that the company s debt is bout half of the company s total book
value. All of these measures are consistent with the idea that Medtronic is able to produce cash to meet
debts as they come due. If the current and quick ratio proved that the company was carrying a large
percentage of current assets as compared to current liabilities, and if the debt didn t make up a
majority of the stockholder s equity, the ranking would have been higher. Earning Quality and
Persistence When ranking Medtronic s earning quality and persistence I would give the company a
ranking of 8 on a scale of 1 to 10. Net operating income is considered to be made up of usual and
frequent activities and is therefore considered to be persistent. This has steadily increased over the past
three years and can reasonably be expected to continue in the future. In 2002, the amount was $1590.2

American Revolution Dbq
The colonists were upset about Parliament and Britain; which lead them to create the American
Revolution. The American Revolution was not justified and unreasonable. The colonists were
overreacting about Parliament s laws and Britain. The colonists were needed to pay the taxes in order
to help the British pay for the war. Most of their riots and protests forced Parliament make more law to
the colonies and made their problem worse. In addition, this would affect their economy.
Because the British helped the colonists for the French and Indian War, they would need to tax the
colonists in order to pay for it. The United States History; Independence to 1914, stated that, Great

Boston. In the spring of 1774 it passed the Coercive Acts. Colonists called these laws the Intolerable

A Research Project On Employee Turnover
Introduction According to Krishnaswami Satyaprasad (2010), the selection of an issue or problem is
the first step in business research. The first step in creating a problem statement is to select the
discipline in which the potential problem lies (Krishnaswami Satyaprasad, 2010). For my business
research project I chose the human resource area. Second, one must narrow the focus to a specific
aspect of the selected area (Krishnaswami Satyaprasad, 2010). Employee turnover is something that I
have first hand experience with which I find to be interesting, therefore this is my area of focus.
Appannaiah, Reddy Ramanath, (2010), state that after isolating the problem area one must proceed to
develop and define the actual problem statement. In this paper I will first discuss three problem
statements in articles I reviewed. After which I will develop a problem statement of m own based on
journal articles and studies I have read thus far concerning the issue of employee turnover in the
specialization of human resource management. For the formulation of a problem Appannaiah et al.
(2010), states that one needs to narrow down the focus from general to a more specific area without
becoming too narrow. With this in mind I have chosen to narrow my focus to employee turnover in
retail establishments.

The Universe is something that has been explored for years and years. Over time, our understandings
and beliefs on the Universe and our world has changed due to new technologies and discoveries. The
Big Bang Theory is one example of an concept that is actively believed within the scientific
community and has been made well known in our world today. This theory, which can be used to
explain the origin and age of our universe, has been refined over the years through a reviewing
process in the scientific community as more discoveries came in due to new technological
advancements.

The Hubble Space Telescope is a telescope that was launched into space in 1990, April 24th. Its
primary function was to take pictures of stars, planets, moons, galaxies, etc. This type of telescope is
different from a telescope such as the Hooker Telescope as it is in space, rather than on Earth, and was
used for different things. Over the many years that this extraordinary telescope has orbited in space, it
has helped scientists with many new discoveries and refined previous theories or beliefs. One of the
biggest discoveries this telescope has made is the discovery of galaxies that we did not know of
previously because they were so far away. This discovery was very important as it has lead scientists
to calculating a more accurate age of the universe. The Hubble Space Telescope made this discovery
by observing Cepheid variables, which are stars with the same average brightness. Although, their
brightness is essentially the same, the stars would seem either brighter or dimmer depending on its
position in relation to Earth. For example, if one Cepheid variable was 100,000 light years away and
another Cepheid variable was 200,000 light years away, the second star would seem dimmer as it is
further away from the Earth and our perspective makes it look like it is not as bright. Scientists can
use this observation to work out around how far away a Cepheid variable, and ultimately a galaxy, is
from the Earth. Using this information and the pictures taken by the Hubble Space Telescope,
scientists were able to work out a more accurate age of the universe which was around 13.75 billion
years old. Without this sort of technology, we wouldn t know as much about the universe as we do
now and we may not have been able to refine our knowledge on the age of the universe. To sum up,
the Hubble Space Telescope is an important piece of

The Fall of Rome and Nazi Germany
Societies flourish and fall, all of them do. They fight and suffer and even kill to keep their society
alive. As a result, societies like ancient Rome and Nazi Germany, eventually fall and crumble. Over
time some of these societies recover, but are never the same again. Societies fail due to political
corruption, loss of resources and war. These obstacles are hard to overcome, but not impossible. These
obstacles weaken and tear at societies, until they finally break, turning them into a piece of history.
Political Corruption and the fall of government are one of the main reasons why societies fail.
Lina and Doon have found many things in the City of Ember. One of them leading through the
pipeworks, to the Mayors Secret Hiding Place . They had discovered that the Mayor had been stealing
food from the citizens in Ember, when everyone else actually needed the supplies more than him.
Jeanne DuPrau writes, I m worried because the mayor of our city is taking for himself the things that
people need (DuPrau 176).
In the 1900 s during the time of the Great War Hitler was the leader of Nazi Germany. He ruled
everything his citizens did including public communication, jobs, and especially the military. At this
time there was a large feud between races and the minorities were not treated equally. All of these
problems eventually led to the downfall of Nazi Germany. The leader gained support for his ideas
through informational text, which filled the popular media with

Marxist View of the Capitalistic Mode of Production and...
Karl Marx s view on the capitalistic mode of production highlights the exploitative nature of this
economic system and points to its development as a necessary continuation of feudal societies many
centuries ago. He demonstrates how the bourgeoisie take advantage of the labor power of the
proletariat, creating profit and fueling the expansion necessary to keep profit margins at acceptable
levels. Marx argues that this economic system, in which capital is the basis of wealth, sprung from the
fall of feudalism when the means of production made obsolete the feudalistic relations of production,
in which ownership of land was the basis of wealth. His claim, therefore, that capitalistic societies are
exploitative class societies is true when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This upper class then finds a market in which the fruits of proletariat labor can be reaped at a higher
price, and the surplus value of that transaction is hoarded by the bourgeoisie. It is important to note
that these wealthy persons have considerable incentive to reinvest their profits into the means of
production, thereby improving technology and lowering input costs, but at the same time furthering
the dependence of the proletariat on the bourgeoisie by making the prospect of a return to the old
modes of production increasingly less viable. However, Marx argues that this process cannot sustain
itself without the fulfillment of certain conditions. The capitalist mode of production relies upon an
expanding market and the constant overhaul of the means of production, though these requirements
are not always met and the result is economic crises. Marx argues that it is essential for these
conditions to be met in order to keep profit margins from falling to unacceptable levels at which the
economy will inevitably sink into depression or recession. However, he also acknowledges the
impossibility of maintaining economic stability over the long run and submits that there will always be
instances of economic crisis. Marx s reasoning demonstrates how the capitalist mode of production
arose from the fall of feudalistic

years. The amount of visits and classes I ve taken there just makes me feel more and more like I m
already part of the welcoming and sophisticated community The New School radiates. I chose The

offers me the opportunity to combine all those writing types into one major. The Culture and Media
major appeals to me most due to its broad topics of study. I can be trained in all the topics that interest
me at once without having to go through the troubles of double majoring. The small and concentrated
aura around this college is perfect for me because I have always worked better in calmer
environments. The fact that this program is more student led and independent is also ideal for me,
being someone who prefers to be in charge of my education and my work proves this. Not only is
writing a big part of my life, I ve been playing music since I was six years old. Piano specifically. I
was trained classically since the start of my musical career and have done a few recitals showcasing
my talent. Since the start of freshman year I have picked up on trombone and I love it. I always
thought music would be my first choice for everything. It was only recently where I realized that
practically, writing is the way to go. I think I am better at writing, it comes naturally for me. Even
though music stays a very prominent part of my life, I ve decided to minor in Music Composition so I
can still have that part of me present without completely throwing it

The Flat Tax Essay
The national debt is growing and the government is unable to keep up under the current Progressive
tax system, in the United States. A solution for the United States debt is to switch to a flat tax system.
A switch to a flat tax system would simplify the tax process, it would make taxes fair and even, and it
would allow the government to reduce the United States national debt. A flat tax system is a system
that taxes every individual at the same percentage. It is not like any system the United States has seen
before.
US Tax History
In the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, the US taxed a few commodities to raise revenue
for the federal government. By 1817, the Government removed all taxes and solely relied on tariffs of

President Bush also doubled the child tax credit. The child tax credit is a rebate given to households
with a newborn child. Two tax bills signed in 2005 and 2006 extended through 2010 the favorable
rates on capital gains and dividends that had been enacted in 2003, raised the exemption levels for the
Alternative Minimum Tax, and enacted new tax incentives designed to persuade individuals to save
more for retirement. (History of the Income Tax, 2007). The Government approved many tax breaks
allowing for more deductions for taxpayers in the 2000 s. by allowing tax deductions and incentives
the tax system becomes convoluted, a more simplified system would be more effective.
Simplify the Tax Process
1000 tax forms are used by United States federal tax system to collect, process, and distribute taxes.
These forms cover payment of taxes joint and partial; they cover reimbursement, late fees, and forms
for different kinds of taxes. More tax forms are required when people make investments, purchases,
and have different types of income to do taxes properly. With less forms to fill out the system would
be less convoluted and it would help insure accuracy. Under a Flat tax system, taxpayers would only
have to fill out two forms at most. Taxpayers save time and energy by filling out one to two forms
versus the 1000 forms available under the current tax. The Flat Tax two filling forms are the size of a
postcard. They require basic

Amblyopia Research Paper
AAO
Amblyopia is a unilateral Of, less commonly, bilateral reduction of best corrected visual acuity that
cannot be attributed directly to the effect of any structural abnormality of the eye or the posterior
visual pathways. Amblyopia is caused by abnormal visual experience early in life resulting from one
of the following: strabismus anisometropia or high bilateral refractive errors (isometropia), stimulus
deprivation
Amblyopia is responsible for more unilaterally reduced vision of childhood onset than all other causes
combined, with a prevalence of 2% 4% in the North American population. This fact is particularly
distressing because, in principle, most amblyopic vision loss is preventable or reversible with timely

Cataract Removal
Cataracts capable of producing amblyopia require surgery without unnecessary delay. In young
children, amblyopia may develop as quickly as 1 week per age of life. Removal of Visually Significant
congenital lens opacities during the first 4 6 weeks of life is necessary for optimal recovery of vision.
In symmetric bilateral cases, the interval between operations on the first and second eyes should be no
more than 1 2 weeks. Acutely developing severe traumatic cataracts in children younger than 6 years
should be removed within a few weeks of injury, if possible.
Refractive Correction
In general, optical prescription for amblyopic eyes should be based on the refractive error as
determined with cycloplegia. Because an amblyopic eye s ability to control accommodation tends to
be impaired, this eye cannot be relied on to compensate for uncorrected hyperopia as would a normal
child s eye. Refractive correction for aphakia following cataract surgery in childhood must be
provided promptly to avoid compounding the visual deprivation effect of the lens opacity with that of
a severe optical deficit. Both anisometropic and ametropic amblyopia may improve or resolve with
refractive correction alone over several

Bilingualism in the Classroom
It s never too early to start. This sentence may seem familiar, uttered by parents as they encourage
their children to begin piano lessons or go to junior basketball camps. Whatever the situation, it seems
as though starting to learn early affords a child some sort of advantage. It can most likely be assumed
that this quasi proverb translates to language as well: a language that is learned and used regularly
from a young age is probably better ingrained into the mind of its user than one learned late and used
sporadically. It has been made evident through research by Bialystok, Craik, and Luk that there are
immense neurological advantages that come from bilingualism. Also, as stated by Martha Nussbaum,
proficiency in more than one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is extremely important to encourage children to see the world on a large scale from many
perspectives, because the future of society will depend on it. If young people are able to see
themselves as not simply citizens of some local region or group but also, and above all, as human
beings bound to all other human beings by ties of recognition and concern (Nussbaum, 1998), they
will be more open minded and willing to accept diversity among people. Learning a language requires
a person to really delve into a culture, to understand how and why the people of that culture
communicate in such ways. Although learning a language is not equivalent to living in a culture, the
former can undoubtedly afford some insight into the latter. For example, whereas in English we have
very few words for snow and ice, in the Saami language, spoken in Scandinavia, there exist several
specific words for different types of snow and situations in which snow and ice appear (Magga, 2006).
To understand why, it requires exploring the culture of Saami language speakers. It becomes clear,
upon investigation, that knowledge of snow and ice conditions [are] a necessity for subsistence and
survival in the arctic and sub arctic areas, where the Saami language is spoken (Magga, 2006). This
aspect of life is made evident through the language; without even being immersed in the culture it

disgusted by the Western lifestyle as well as his father s behaviour, meaning his neglecting Muslim
precepts and principles. This discovery makes Parvez s dreams of doing well in England and

Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge Essay
Out of all the stories I have read in class so far, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose

because my assumptions of what the story was going to be about were completely different than the
stories actual content. As I set aside my judgment and let myself try to enjoy the story, I found myself
anxiously reading to the bitter end. This story was not only interesting and unique, but also had an
added twist at the end, which surprised most readers. Depending on how observant the reader is with

While this section is not necessarily a crucial part of the story, it does help build Peyton s character as
well as the overall character of the story.
The third part of this story focuses attention back to the scene at the bridge, where the authors
deceiving words make the reader think Peyton has escaped from the rope and now desperately fights
his way home to the loving arms of his wife again. As I said before this part of the story continues on a
systematic path, describing every little detail occurring from Peyton s point of view up until the last
seconds before his death.
The main theme of this story, dying, opened my eyes to a view I had never thought about before. The
author presents an in depth narrative into the mind and thoughts of someone who is in the process of
his last minutes of life. This could also be characterized by going through some of the five stages of
dying: Denial, Anger, Depression, and Acceptance. An example of Denial would be when Peyton says,
quot;If I could free my hands, quot; he thought, quot;I might throw off the noose and spring into the
stream. By diving I could evade the bullets and, swimming vigorously, reach the bank, take to the
woods and get away home. My home, thank God, is as yet outside their lines; my wife and little ones
are still beyond the invader s farthest advance. quot; Peyton shows signs of denial in this segment by
presenting the possibility of escaping

Turning Points In Film History
When looking back on the Film history s turning points there are some few events that come to mind
such as the first edited film called Jazz Singer including the transition to sound or to the first feature

Kane While all these events completely revolutionize the development of films, there is one element
that is always overlooked when it comes to film which is the creative use of lighting. By exploiting the
significance of light and shadow Orson Welles Citizen Kane expressed a whole lot of meaning and
established a desired atmosphere which impacted the audience as well as the film genre in a lot of
ways.
Light and shadow was used by Orson Welles not as a requirement but to give certain scenes a meaning
and atmosphere. He used lighting in a meaningful way to make the viewers filled with emotions. Prior
to that moment movies conveyed it s messages from the screen to the audiences through the content
rather than how the film was shot. You can say that for Filmmaker Citizen Kane was the first one to
technically use filmmaking with combination of the content delivering to the audience what

  • 3. Jesus Is The Name Of The Word Jesus is the name we often used in English translation but comes from the Latin form of the Greek name Joshua. The name also related to the Hebrew verb root and its noun forms Yesua, which means deliver. The name is also related to the Old Testament term YHWH saves. Therefore, the exact term Savior appears first, and is spoken by the Samaritans in John 4:42. The title Nazarene applied to Jesus has been also used to describe Christians in Syria and Arabic traditions. Although some of the terms and titles referring to Jesus in both New and Old Testament have deeper meaning such as: Emmanuel, Lord, Messiah and son of man. The Gospel of Matthew provides the name Emmanuel, which is taken from Isaiah 7:14, where it refers to another child born ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The birth of Jesus, on the other hand, counterbalanced the fall of Adam, bringing forth redemption and repairing the damage done by Adam. The theme is reiterated by Paul, in Romans 5:18 21, when he states: Therefore just as one man s trespass led to condemnation for all, so one man s act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all. For just as by the one man s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man s obedience the many will be made righteous. But law came in, with the result that the trespass multiplied; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, just as sin exercised dominion in death, so grace might also exercise dominion through justification* leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Second of all, Jesus referring as lord is the ultimate reason that I put on my faith and surround my life to him. Early Christians viewed Jesus as the Lord which mean God, lord or master appears over 700 times in the New Testament, referring to him. In Greek this has at times been translated as Kyrios. While the term Mari expressed the relationship between Jesus and his disciples during his life, the Greek Kyrios came to represent his lordship over the world. According to Romans 10:9 13 Paul emphasized the value of the title, and stated that confessing by mouth and belief that Jesus is Lord you will be save which signifies ... • 4. Church In The Canterbury Tales Canterbury is an English cathedral city which was a popular pilgrimage site in the Medieval Era. However, in the Middle Ages, the members of the clergy did not always live up to their lofty expectations and standards. The Church s credibility, at this time, was diminishing due to the actions of its officials. Geoffrey Chaucer, author of The Canterbury Tales, took this pilgrimage and along the way met a few of these questionable clerical figures. During the General Prologue of the work, Chaucer provides a comical representation of all the characters he meets on his journey. His description of clerical members, such as the Monk, criticize their actions and interests. In addition to the Monk, he meets a nun with questionable morals and a deceitful, selfish friar. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea of the Nun relaxing on this principle exhibits the decline of the Church s credibility. In addition to her lax fashion choices, the Nun spoils herself in her diet. Similar to monks, nuns maintained a very strict lifestyle. Chaucer s Nun fails to abide with this minimalist culture when it comes to food. Chaucer describes her as by no means undergown which insinuates that she is not a dainty woman like her peers (GP 160). Nuns, like monks, also prohibited the donning of jewelry or other items personal items. Once again, the Nun fails to observe this ideal and proceeds to bear a glaring brooch on her clothing (GP 164). In addition to this, Chaucer observes, She wore a coral trinket on her arm which further defies the monastic code (162). Furthermore, the Nun is by no means an upstanding member of the medieval clerical community. Chaucer s portrayal of the Nun as a immoral and pompous figure further aids the argument of the Church s hypocrisy. Continuing the themes of hypocrisy and corruption, Chaucer s Friar contradicts his divine position with his deceitful actions towards society. He exploits his position in order to get ... • 5. Thomas Hobbes Theory Of Natural Law For many years now, political philosophy has been dealing with ideas on how to make society more moral, unprejudiced and just. Within this concept is whether laws and rules created in society are moral and fair and how these can vary between human beings and traditions. Therefore the whole notion of Natural Law governing society has been reached from different conclusions, which in turn sees Thomas Hobbes social contract theory as opposing to St. Thomas Aquinas theory of natural law. Yet this does not change the fact that many Western democracies base their moral decision making within Hobbes concept. (Kenney, 2005) The theory formulated by Hobbes, argued that the laws of nature are to be seen as divine law, in which all human beings are bound by these basic natural laws of self preservation which directs them to the way of the good. (Murphy, 2011) Hobbes rejected the concept of higher law and argued that the citizens ought to accept the traditional laws and principles of their state even if they were oppressive in order to keep peace and security. (Kraynak, 1990) In contrast to this, St. Thomas Aquinas, who was heavily influenced by Aristotle s ideas of universal and conventional law and expanded and developed them. (Vieru, 2010) His ideas centre his notion of natural law, with his knowledge of God. He bases his theory of natural law in the concept of an eternal law, which is in God. For Aquinas, law is an order of reason from God for all of the community. (Summa ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Roman Gods In The Aeneid Myths are the stories and legends that make up the Roman religion. According to An Introduction to Roman Religion written by John Scheid, religion is defined as a set of formal, objective rules, bequeathed by tradition. It was within the framework of those traditional rules and that system of etiquette that an individual established a relationship with the god s (Scheid 22). This quote is showing that the Roman religion is based on myths that the roman people used to understand how to worship their god s and create their cultures view of the world. There are countless myths in the Roman religion and they are the key components to what these people believed and how they worshipped their gods and deities of the time. The myths of the Roman ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the story of the Contest of Arachne and Minerva. In this story Arachne, who is a common girl who is only well known for art in wool working, challenges the god Minerva to a weaving contest. Minerva comes down in disguise and tries to get Arachne to recant on her challenge. This does not work and Arachne doubles down on the challenge by saying you doddering old fool, coming in here like this. You ve lived to long, is your problem. Go talk to your daughter in law, your daughter whatever.... I haven t changed my mind. Why does your goddess avoid a contest with me? Why doesn t she come herself? (Ovid 148). then the goddess Minerva reveals herself to Arachne and the challenge began. After completing their respected works, Arachne s was so beautiful Minerva had no choice but to admit that it was perfect. This angered Minerva and caused her to begin beating Arachne since a mortal person beat her. Arachne eventually hung herself. This caused Minerva to feel pity and bring her back to life as a spider as punishment for challenging her. This story is meant to show that you do not challenge a god, even if you think that you are better than them. This story shows that you need to respect the god and goddess and not to challenge their authority. This is very clearly written in An Introduction to Roman Religion, when Scheid writes The Romans, like the Greeks, accepted the fundamental principle that the gods lived ... B) The pattern that initially seemed random would begin to acquire uniformity. Half of the electrons would transmit and half would reflect and go back. Each of the electrons that transmitted would carry its complete charge and mass. C) One cannot say where the electron really is, whether a given electron will transmit or reflect. It is only possible to state the probability of electrons actions. For example, one may say that the probability is one in five that the electron will transmit and four out of five that it will be reflected back. D) Some physicists find the result difficult to accept because they perceive it as what Einstein called God playing dice with the universe . The unpredictability inherent with this result and the fact that it seems to contradict both Newtonian physics as well as reality, make it a less than ideal paradigm for many physicists. E) David Hume would have vehemently objected to my answer on part C). Hume s word view was largely based on the belief that, to understand events in the universe, we must look to their cause. Primo Levi Survival In Auschwitz Analysis Maria Leyva Dr. Patt Modern Jewish History 04.22.18 Primo Levi Essay The book, Survival in Auschwitz by Primo Levi, is an autobiography that talks about the brutal experience of him in Auschwitz. The book is written as if the reader were to be talking one on one with Levi. He describes to the reader s how he saw the men and women lose their humanity overtime because of the treatment in Auschwitz. Throughout his story he describes the dehumanization and slowly realizes that it was not just his survival and dehumanization, but it was everyone s. What Is Walt Disney s Legacy A Legacy that Lives On Disney is worth around 165 billion dollars, it s hard to imagine that the man that created this company was in debt most of his life (Greene). Walt Disney had many struggles in this life, including debt, but he worked through them all. In the legacy unit, we have been researching people that have left a tremendous impact on the world. Walt Disney is a perfect example because of his tangible work such as his cartoons, movies, and of course Disneyland. As well as his wonderful charisma and hard work. Walt Elias Disney was born December 5, 1901 in Chicago, Illinois. When Walt was around ten years Walt and his family moved to Kansas City. Walt s family consisted of his father (Elias Disney), his mother (Flora Disney), and his four siblings (Roy, Raymond, Herbert, and Ruth). Walt was a kid who cared less about school work, and more about having fun with it. He was known to draw on his homework more than complete it. As he got older he started having jobs based around drawing. Eventually, Walt decided to his own cartoon business (Greene). This small, inexperienced business is what led to Mickey Mouse, then to various Disney movies, and to eventually to Disneyland. Walt Disney accomplished many things in his lifetime. It is thought to have appeared as much as 10,000 years ago and since then, it has claimed the lives of millions of people, many of whom have been famous figures in history. After a vaccine was discovered in 1796, countries throughout the world began the fight to eradicate the disease. The large wheat fields, the long flowing Missouri river, and the large, beautiful Ozarks forests. Missouri, even after these things, like any states, is not perfect. Unlike some states however, Missouri has many flaws that can very easily be fixed, but the problem is that Missouri government is not doing much to stop it, one of the biggest problems being gun control. We are losing so many lives in major shootings at schools. The part that makes me mad is that after mourning the loss for a bit, we move on, forgetting the tragedy left behind. Missouri is not being very strict about these gun laws, and it is hurting us in the social look from other states, and making us seem like a state that doesn t care. We need to take control of these gun laws to make Missouri a safer place. To begin, Missouri is one of the worst states for gun control laws. This makes them very sensitive to economic changes like the one just before the world war. In contrast, some saw Latin America as a rapidly growing region, with increases in European migrants (especially German) bring stronger industries and more investments (Oxford). In addition, according to these historians, the more aggressive economic changes brought by the German can be interpreted as an economic imperialism lead by the German Kiser s wanting an empire under the sun (Oxford). During the onset of the war, many nations saw a cut off imports and exports due to tariffs, blockades, and U boat patrols (Clements). In Peru, there was a food shortage within the first few weeks of the war in Europe, which caused internal strife and tension, putting blame on the native/migrated German population (Clements). In Brazil, German U boats severely impeded on their exports and when they finally destroyed the key export ships Rio Branco, Paraná, and Macau, the Brazilians declared war on the Central Powers (Clements). On the brighter side, many nations like Argentina, Mexico, and Peru saw increases in nitrate, metal, beef, and oil exports, which helped fund internal development (funding domestic industries), but helped little for their future development (Clements). Two forms of entertainment are chariot racing and gladiator fights. These were two of the more popular forms of entertainment available to the average Roman citizens. The first form of entertainment I am going to talk about is chariot racing. Chariot racing was the most popular form of entertainment. It appealed to all social classes, from the lowly slaves to the senators and the emperor. Juvenal s famous saying panem et circenses has become a sign of entertainment appeasing people throughout the ages. Although there was no public betting one the races, there was a large amount of private betting that went on and the chance of earning money probably attracted even more popularity to the races. The races were so popular that many household items were decorated with symbols from the racing. The racers were divided into four different teams, called factions (factiones). These were coloured and their names came from the colours themselves: the Greens, the Reds, the Blues and the Whites. The green and blue factions were the most powerful, and later on in the empire, they absorbed the other two into their ranks. INTRODUCTION RFID refers to any system that can transmit identification numbers over radio. RFID system is made up of a unique identification number, which is allocated to a specific item, an identity tag which is attached to the item with a chip capable of storing a unique identification number, networked RFID readers and data processing systems that are capable of collecting signals from multiple tags at high speeds and of pre processing this data, and one or more networked databases that store the product information RFID is a wireless technology, which allows transmission of information without the physical connection. In its most basic form, an RFID system has two components: tags and readers. A tag (transponder) consists of a microchip that stores identification data of the item to which it is attached and an antenna to transmit this data via radio waves. A reader (interrogator) sends out a radio signal and prompts the tag to broadcast the data contained on its chip. The reader then converts the radio waves returned from the tag into digital data and forwards them to a computer system. A reader can scan an area for any tags that are tuned to the same frequency as the reader. The frequency on which the RFID system operates designates the intensity of the radio waves used to transmit information and is a key factor in determining performance levels and applications for the system. What Is John Steinbeck s Message In Of Mice And Men During the early years of the Great Depression, hundreds of thousands of American workers became out of work and began to travel across the country, in search of work, and the fabled American Dream. John Steinbeck s novel, Of Mice and Men, a historical fiction piece, follows the struggles of two such American workers, on their journey through the tumultuous era of the Great Depression. However the novel s message comes from the struggles of the two main characters, George and Lenny, and the actions they must take to overcome the obstacles in front of them. Steinbeck s purpose for writing the novel was to express his views on the American Dream and express his experiences through the characters he creates. The messages that Steinbeck conveys through his novel are how impossible it truly is to achieve the American Dream, and how it is the nature of man to prey on the weak; this message adding to the impossibility of the American dream, men making it impossible for their fellow man to succeed. One last measure used to determine the ranking provided for Medtronic s solvency was the debt/equity ratio. Using this ratio, we see that the average total liabilities only make up 56% of the total Stockholder s equity. This shows that the company s debt is bout half of the company s total book value. The first step in creating a problem statement is to select the discipline in which the potential problem lies (Krishnaswami Satyaprasad, 2010). For my business research project I chose the human resource area. Second, one must narrow the focus to a specific aspect of the selected area (Krishnaswami Satyaprasad, 2010). Employee turnover is something that I have first hand experience with which I find to be interesting, therefore this is my area of focus. Appannaiah, Reddy Ramanath, (2010), state that after isolating the problem area one must proceed to develop and define the actual problem statement. In this paper I will first discuss three problem statements in articles I reviewed. After which I will develop a problem statement of m own based on journal articles and studies I have read thus far concerning the issue of employee turnover in the specialization of human resource management. For the formulation of a problem Appannaiah et al. (2010), states that one needs to narrow down the focus from general to a more specific area without becoming too narrow. Over the many years that this extraordinary telescope has orbited in space, it has helped scientists with many new discoveries and refined previous theories or beliefs. One of the biggest discoveries this telescope has made is the discovery of galaxies that we did not know of previously because they were so far away. This discovery was very important as it has lead scientists to calculating a more accurate age of the universe. The Hubble Space Telescope made this discovery by observing Cepheid variables, which are stars with the same average brightness. Although, their brightness is essentially the same, the stars would seem either brighter or dimmer depending on its position in relation to Earth. For example, if one Cepheid variable was 100,000 light years away and another Cepheid variable was 200,000 light years away, the second star would seem dimmer as it is further away from the Earth and our perspective makes it look like it is not as bright. Scientists can use this observation to work out around how far away a Cepheid variable, and ultimately a galaxy, is from the Earth. Using this information and the pictures taken by the Hubble Space Telescope, scientists were able to work out a more accurate age of the universe which was around 13.75 billion years old. Marx argues that this economic system, in which capital is the basis of wealth, sprung from the fall of feudalism when the means of production made obsolete the feudalistic relations of production, in which ownership of land was the basis of wealth. Your Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts school offers me the opportunity to combine all those writing types into one major. The Culture and Media major appeals to me most due to its broad topics of study. I can be trained in all the topics that interest me at once without having to go through the troubles of double majoring. The small and concentrated aura around this college is perfect for me because I have always worked better in calmer environments. The fact that this program is more student led and independent is also ideal for me, being someone who prefers to be in charge of my education and my work proves this. Not only is writing a big part of my life, I ve been playing music since I was six years old. Piano specifically. I was trained classically since the start of my musical career and have done a few recitals showcasing my talent. Since the start of freshman year I have picked up on trombone and I love it. I always thought music would be my first choice for everything. It was only recently where I realized that practically, writing is the way to go. I think I am better at writing, it comes naturally for me. • 28. The Flat Tax Essay The national debt is growing and the government is unable to keep up under the current Progressive tax system, in the United States. A solution for the United States debt is to switch to a flat tax system. A switch to a flat tax system would simplify the tax process, it would make taxes fair and even, and it would allow the government to reduce the United States national debt. A flat tax system is a system that taxes every individual at the same percentage. It is not like any system the United States has seen before. US Tax History In the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century, the US taxed a few commodities to raise revenue for the federal government. By 1817, the Government removed all taxes and solely relied on tariffs of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... President Bush also doubled the child tax credit. The child tax credit is a rebate given to households with a newborn child. Two tax bills signed in 2005 and 2006 extended through 2010 the favorable rates on capital gains and dividends that had been enacted in 2003, raised the exemption levels for the Alternative Minimum Tax, and enacted new tax incentives designed to persuade individuals to save more for retirement. (History of the Income Tax, 2007). The Government approved many tax breaks allowing for more deductions for taxpayers in the 2000 s. by allowing tax deductions and incentives the tax system becomes convoluted, a more simplified system would be more effective. Simplify the Tax Process 1000 tax forms are used by United States federal tax system to collect, process, and distribute taxes. These forms cover payment of taxes joint and partial; they cover reimbursement, late fees, and forms for different kinds of taxes. More tax forms are required when people make investments, purchases, and have different types of income to do taxes properly. With less forms to fill out the system would be less convoluted and it would help insure accuracy. Under a Flat tax system, taxpayers would only have to fill out two forms at most. Taxpayers save time and energy by filling out one to two forms versus the 1000 forms available under the current tax. The Flat Tax two filling forms are the size of a postcard. They require basic ... • 29. Amblyopia Research Paper AAO Amblyopia is a unilateral Of, less commonly, bilateral reduction of best corrected visual acuity that cannot be attributed directly to the effect of any structural abnormality of the eye or the posterior visual pathways. Amblyopia is caused by abnormal visual experience early in life resulting from one of the following: strabismus anisometropia or high bilateral refractive errors (isometropia), stimulus deprivation Amblyopia is responsible for more unilaterally reduced vision of childhood onset than all other causes combined, with a prevalence of 2% 4% in the North American population. Force use of the poorer eye by limiting use of the better eye. Cataract Removal Cataracts capable of producing amblyopia require surgery without unnecessary delay. In young children, amblyopia may develop as quickly as 1 week per age of life. Removal of Visually Significant congenital lens opacities during the first 4 6 weeks of life is necessary for optimal recovery of vision. In symmetric bilateral cases, the interval between operations on the first and second eyes should be no more than 1 2 weeks. Acutely developing severe traumatic cataracts in children younger than 6 years should be removed within a few weeks of injury, if possible. Refractive Correction In general, optical prescription for amblyopic eyes should be based on the refractive error as determined with cycloplegia. Because an amblyopic eye s ability to control accommodation tends to be impaired, this eye cannot be relied on to compensate for uncorrected hyperopia as would a normal child s eye. Refractive correction for aphakia following cataract surgery in childhood must be provided promptly to avoid compounding the visual deprivation effect of the lens opacity with that of a severe optical deficit. Both anisometropic and ametropic amblyopia may improve or resolve with refractive correction alone over several ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Bilingualism in the Classroom It s never too early to start. This sentence may seem familiar, uttered by parents as they encourage their children to begin piano lessons or go to junior basketball camps. Whatever the situation, it seems as though starting to learn early affords a child some sort of advantage. It can most likely be assumed that this quasi proverb translates to language as well: a language that is learned and used regularly from a young age is probably better ingrained into the mind of its user than one learned late and used sporadically. It has been made evident through research by Bialystok, Craik, and Luk that there are immense neurological advantages that come from bilingualism. Also, as stated by Martha Nussbaum, proficiency in more than one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is extremely important to encourage children to see the world on a large scale from many perspectives, because the future of society will depend on it. If young people are able to see themselves as not simply citizens of some local region or group but also, and above all, as human beings bound to all other human beings by ties of recognition and concern (Nussbaum, 1998), they will be more open minded and willing to accept diversity among people. Learning a language requires a person to really delve into a culture, to understand how and why the people of that culture communicate in such ways. Although learning a language is not equivalent to living in a culture, the former can undoubtedly afford some insight into the latter. For example, whereas in English we have very few words for snow and ice, in the Saami language, spoken in Scandinavia, there exist several specific words for different types of snow and situations in which snow and ice appear (Magga, 2006). To understand why, it requires exploring the culture of Saami language speakers. It becomes clear, upon investigation, that knowledge of snow and ice conditions [are] a necessity for subsistence and survival in the arctic and sub arctic areas, where the Saami language is spoken (Magga, 2006). This aspect of life is made evident through the language; without even being immersed in the culture it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

(Panayi 292) According to Panayi, this is a remarkable progress as it reflects the entry of migrants or people with migrant background into the elites of British society. (292) 3.5 Literature Since the post war period, migrants and their descendants have also to a greater extent entered the centre of British literature. It is about Parvez, a Pakistani immigrant living in England, that has largely assimilated to the normal British lifestyle. His son Ali originally seems to have done so as well; at some point, however, Parvez starts noticing obvious changes in his son s behaviour: he gets rid of his personal possessions such as CDs, videotapes, books and clothes as well as his TV and stereo system, breaks up with his girlfriend, stops playing the guitar and progressively isolates himself from his old friends. Initially unable to explain or understand what is happening to him, he starts looking for clues, suspecting drugs or something similar to be the cause. By directly confronting his son, he finally finds out that Ali feels disgusted by the Western lifestyle as well as his father s behaviour, meaning his neglecting Muslim precepts and principles. This discovery makes Parvez s dreams of doing well in England and successfully integrating into British society crumble and he continually grows more worried about his son who acts increasingly fundamentalist and hateful. Parvez s concerns and anger eventually culminate in him hitting Ali repeatedly one night after Ali insults one of his father s closest friends who is working as a prostitute. The story ends with Ali consequently asking Parvez: Who s the fanatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Occurence at Owl Creek Bridge Essay Out of all the stories I have read in class so far, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose Bierce, has touched me most. When I first began reading the story I felt as though I was not interested, because my assumptions of what the story was going to be about were completely different than the stories actual content. As I set aside my judgment and let myself try to enjoy the story, I found myself anxiously reading to the bitter end. This story was not only interesting and unique, but also had an added twist at the end, which surprised most readers. Depending on how observant the reader is with picking up on foreshadowing and symbolic meaning, one may realize before the final sentences that Peyton Farquar was not actually escaping ... The third part of this story focuses attention back to the scene at the bridge, where the authors deceiving words make the reader think Peyton has escaped from the rope and now desperately fights his way home to the loving arms of his wife again. As I said before this part of the story continues on a systematic path, describing every little detail occurring from Peyton s point of view up until the last seconds before his death. The main theme of this story, dying, opened my eyes to a view I had never thought about before. The author presents an in depth narrative into the mind and thoughts of someone who is in the process of his last minutes of life. This could also be characterized by going through some of the five stages of dying: Denial, Anger, Depression, and Acceptance. An example of Denial would be when Peyton says, quot;If I could free my hands, quot; he thought, quot;I might throw off the noose and spring into the stream. By diving I could evade the bullets and, swimming vigorously, reach the bank, take to the woods and get away home. My home, thank God, is as yet outside their lines; my wife and little ones are still beyond the invader s farthest advance. quot; Peyton shows signs of denial in this segment by presenting the possibility of escaping ... Turning Points In Film History When looking back on the Film history s turning points there are some few events that come to mind such as the first edited film called Jazz Singer including the transition to sound or to the first feature film that is presented in colour. Other also mention the use of deep focus from the film called Citizen Kane While all these events completely revolutionize the development of films, there is one element that is always overlooked when it comes to film which is the creative use of lighting. By exploiting the significance of light and shadow Orson Welles Citizen Kane expressed a whole lot of meaning and established a desired atmosphere which impacted the audience as well as the film genre in a lot of ways. Light and shadow was used by Orson Welles not as a requirement but to give certain scenes a meaning and atmosphere. He used lighting in a meaningful way to make the viewers filled with emotions. Prior to that moment movies conveyed it s messages from the screen to the audiences through the content rather than how the film was shot.
