2. Colonialism
• Colonialism is the policy of a nation seeking
to extend or retain its authority over other
people or territories, generally with the aim
of economic dominance.
• The colonising country seeks to benefit from
the colonised country or land mass.
• In the process, colonisers imposed their
religion, economics, and medicinal practices
on the natives.

• Colonialism is the relationship of domination
of indigenous by foreign invaders where the
latter rule in pursuit of its interest.

4. Post colonialism
• Postcolonialism or postcolonial studies is the
academic study of the cultural legacy of
colonialism and imperialism, focusing on the
human consequences of the control and
exploitation of colonized people and the
lands.
• Post colonialism is a critical theory analysis of
the history, culture, literature, and discourse
of European imperial power.

5. Cultural Imperialism
• Cultural imperialism also called cultural colonialism
comprise the cultural aspects of imperialism.
• Imperialism here refers to the creation and
maintenance of unequal relationships between
civilization.
• Thus, the cultural imperialism is the practice of
promoting and imposing a culture, usually that of a
politically powerful nation, over a less powerful
society; in other words, the cultural hegemony of
industrialized or politically and economically

civilizations throughout the world.
• The term is employed especially in the fields
of history, cultural studies and postcolonial
theory.
• Cultural Imperialism has been an influential
concept in the representation of the modern
Christian missionary movement.

7. Michel Foucault
• The work of French philosopher and social
theorist Michel Foucault has heavily
influenced use of the term cultural
imperialism, particularly his philosophical
interpretation of power and his concept of
governmentality.
• According to Foucault, power is intimately
tied with his conception of truth.

• Following an interpretation of power similar
to that of Machiaveil, Foucault defined
power as immaterial, as a “certain type of
relation between individuals” that has to do
with complex strategic social positions that
relate to the subject’s ability to control its
environment and influence those around
itself.

9. Edward Said
• In Cultural and Imperialism, the sequel to
Orientalism, Said proposes that, despite the
formal end of the “age of empire” after the
Second World War, colonial imperialism left a
cultural legacy to the colonized peoples,
which remains in their contemporary
civilizations; and that said Cultural
Imperialism is very influential in the
international systems of power.

• Sunday is the day of the week
between Saturday and
Monday. Sunday is a day of
rest in most Western
countries, as a part of the
weekend and weeknight. For
most observant Christian,
Sunday is observed as a day of
worship and rest, holding it as
the lord’s day and the day of
Christ’s resurrection.
