UAE Demographics
• In 2010, the population was 8.2 millions
• 14% are Emiratis
• 76% are Muslims
• There are 2 doctrines, Sunni Muslims and Shi’a
Muslims
Multiculturalism
• Multiculturalism relates to communities containing
multiple cultures
• UAE is a multicultural community
• UAE is a salad bowl country, not a melting pot one
• Acculturation (take parts of cultures they like but they still keep their
own culture)

• Enculturation (how a person is raised up with his own culture)
Ethnic Groups
• Socially defined category of people who share social
experiences
• More than 45 nationalities in the UAE
• Many doctrines and religions
Ethnocentrism
• Judging another culture solely by their values and
standards
• They specially judge with concern for
language, behavior, customs, and religion
• Examples
Culture Shock
• Personal disorientation a person may feel when
experiencing an unfamiliar way of life due to
immigration
• Caused by individuals in a foreign environment
Stereotypes
• A thought that may be adopted about specific
types of individuals and may or may not
accurately reflect reality
