1. Crisis Management Essay
Crafting an essay on crisis management is a challenging endeavor that demands a comprehensive
understanding of the subject matter. The complexity arises from the multifaceted nature of crises
and the intricate strategies required to mitigate, respond to, and recover from them. To write a
compelling essay, one must delve into various aspects, including crisis identification, risk
assessment, communication strategies, and organizational resilience.
The research process alone can be daunting, as it involves sifting through a vast array of
academic articles, case studies, and real-world examples. Navigating the plethora of theories and
models related to crisis management adds an additional layer of difficulty. Different crises
require tailored approaches, making it crucial for the essay to encompass a diverse range of
scenarios, from natural disasters to corporate scandals.
Moreover, articulating ideas in a coherent and logical manner poses its own set of challenges.
Balancing the theoretical framework with practical applications, while maintaining clarity and
conciseness, requires skillful writing. Crafting a well-structured argument that explores the
nuances of crisis management demands not only a deep understanding of the topic but also
effective communication skills.
Addressing the dynamic nature of crises, the essay must be up-to-date with the latest
developments and incorporate contemporary case studies. This necessitates staying abreast of
current events and constantly updating the research material, adding an element of time
sensitivity to the writing process.
In conclusion, writing an essay on crisis management involves a significant intellectual
investment. It requires a blend of research prowess, critical thinking, and effective
communication skills to navigate the complexities inherent in the topic. Nevertheless, the
exploration of crisis management principles can be a rewarding intellectual journey for those
willing to undertake the challenge.

2. Power Of The Media In Born In Flames
Born in Flames examines the power of the media and how it influences the
ideology of society by focusing on the ways that it promotes change or hinders it.
The media used by the government in this film portrays women as housewives and
mothers, incapable of doing manual labor, and suggests that men are more capable
than women of holding positions of power. The government endorses the idea that
women are beneath men in the social hierarchy in order to maintain the power of the
white male. This inhibits the constant struggle for change that defines socialism, the
very thing the government in this fictional film claims to be (Born in Flames, 1983).
The film suggests that media has the power to change and reshape ideology about
women just as much as it perpetuates the stereotypes already entrenched in American
society. The film is centered on a group known as the Women s Army. It is a group
comprised of women who seek to eradicate the ever present inequalities between
males and females. They end up going on marches, networking with different radio
shows and meeting together in order to find ways to educate women and the general
public about the hypocritical nature of the government and its role in the social and
economic status of women. In the beginning of the film we see men catcalling
women as they walk down the street, harassing them while riding the subways, and
even attempting to rape them in broad daylight. This highlights the impact of
societies ideology about gender
3. Examples Of Imagist Poetry
Introducing the Imagist Poetry
What is imagism? Only a handful of individuals were involved in this poetic
movement at the beginning of the twentieth century in Britain, and in America.
Imagism was about essential aesthetic ideas and criteria of modern poetry. What is
the difference between imagist poetry and any other poems that are well known for
their use of images? One would argue that every imagist poem is trying to reevaluate
the way that someone normally would approach imagery.
One of imagism famous poets was Ezra Pound. He was one of the founders of
imagism. He had three rules for writing an imagist poem. First of all, the direct
treatment of the thing, whether subjective or objective. The second one is to use
absolutely no word that did not contribute to the presentation. Finally, the third one
was regarding rhythm: to compose in sequence of the musical phrase, not in sequence
of the metronome (Ezra Pound A Retrospect). These are important rules worth

THE apparition of these faces in the crowd;
Petals on a wet, black bough. ( Ezra Pound In a Station of the Metro)
If the author would have added the word like to the poem between ... in the crowd
and petals... , it would make more sense. Instead of doing this the author put this
semicolon between the two lines of the poem, which distinctly makes a sudden
break in ideas. The apparition is like a ghostly appearance of these faces in the
crowd ( Ezra Pound In a Station of the Metro). The author is in subway system,
where all these people with all these ghostly faces and he hasn t seen them as
individuals, he is seeing them as a crowd with blurred faces passing through. The
author suggests that they are like petals as in leaves on a tree branch as they go
along in the crowd. There is a lot of meaning packed into the two lines of the
4. Gertrude And Claudius s Arranged Marriage
Within Shakespeare s Hamlet, Gertrude and Claudius marriage was a direct result
of the one sided marriages during Elizabethan times, as through marriage, Claudius
takes away Hamlet s right to rule. In particular, Gertrude s arranged marriage
reveals that she is not in control of her own fate and her lineage s fate. This was a
direct result of the social guidelines of Elizabethan society, were woman were
expected to accept a man s proposal to marriage regardless of the situation ().
Ultimately, Claudius, Hamlets uncle, took advantage of his brother s death, and
allowed him to gain power he otherwise would not have gained. The assets gained by
Claudius proved the dowries, commonly apart of Elizabethan marriages, exclusively

Lessons from a Third World Perspective on Environmentalism
Possibly more than any of the other articles we have read so far,
Ramachandra Guha s article Radical Environmentalism and Wilderness
Preservation: A Third World Critique made me think. In analyzing the
Western deep ecology movement, he criticized its focus on preservation of
wild areas. By doing this, he was directly criticizing what I have long
thought of as my main goal as an environmentalist. One of the first
things that turned me on to environmental issues when I was younger was my
horror at the soaring rate of rainforest destruction so dramatically
portrayed to us in 9th grade biology class. Since then, by following a
biology track ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But reading the article, I was struck by
what we can learn from each other and from where we overlap.
Guha s article critiqued the four main tenants of deep ecology
(which are, as he sees them,: a shift from anthropocentric to biocentric
ethics, a focus on preservation of wilderness, an invocation of Eastern
spiritual traditions, and a perception of being the vanguard of current
environmentalism) in order to show that, as is, deep ecology would only
meet its goals at the expense of the Third World. He gave the example of
Project Tiger in India, in which Western preservationists organizations
encouraged the designation of a network of parks to preserve the tiger s
habitat but only by moving whole villages of people and prohibiting them
from using the land (272). Of course, this type of conflict between
7. protecting the habitat of an endangered species and letting the land be
used by locals does not only occur in Third World contexts it is a common
debate, including of course the famous Spotted Owl example within our own
country.
Although it seems clear that a conflict between anthropocentric and
biocentric world views is at work here, Guha claims that the dichotomy is
useless (271). I have also seen it as somewhat problematic, even from my
own biological

Western Culture In Relationship To Others Overview Was Columbus a saint or a
sinner? Was his discovery of the New World in 1492 a blessing to us all or, more
importantly, is that curse still with us? Did he bring joy, happiness and progress or
did he light the flame of oppression? Today he is considered responsible, at least to
a great degree, of bringing the Western (then Spanish) culture to the American
continent North and South. So, even now, 500 years after his voyage of discovery
across the Atlantic with a crew of sailors yearning for adventure and riches, the
debate is still going on. Did he do good, or should he have stayed home and never
sailed out from Spain? Did Western (and then Spanish) culture serve a higher

The Perks of Being a Wallflower is a book written by Stephen Chbosky wrote a
book that many people can relate to when it comes to the sayings of the characters.
Sam said, I m going to do what I want to do. I m going to be who I really am. And I
m going to figure out what that is. Later in the book, the main character Charlie
says a quote that has so much meaning when it comes to identity and figuring out
who we really are. Charlies says, I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons.
And maybe we ll never know most of them. But even if we don t have the power to
choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there. We can
still do things. And we can try to feel okay about them. Our lives our made up of
moments that make us who we are. Our identities stem from the experiences we go

other things we come into contact within our lives. Our identities tell us who we
are and how we can define ourselves to both our own minds and to those around us.
People will ask me all the time about who am I. They want to know about my life

11. The Theory Of Evolution And The Origin Of Species
The Theory of Evolution: Grievously Hypothetical *Rough Draft* First Publicized
in Charles Darwin s On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the
Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life, The Theory of Evolution
has been a widely excepted theory all around the world. According to the Pew
Research Center, approximately 60% of all American adults believe in Darwinian
evolution(Public s Views on Human Evolution). This is an absurdly large amount of
the United States population given how remarkably flawed Darwin s theory really is.
As stated in On the Origin of Species, the Theory of Evolution claims that ... new
species in the course of time are formed through natural selection(Darwin 86). The
heart of this theory is descent with modification. This suggests that over countless
generations, minute genetic variations have occurred due to mutations. These
genetic variations have the ability to alter how a species interacts with its
environment. If the genetic variation deems beneficial to the species likeliness to
survive and reproduce, the mutation will be passed down to its offspring. Through
many years of completely random mutations deeming to beneficial, large enough
changes occur in a species for it to have evolved into a completely new species; this
is where that phrase origin of species comes from in the title of Darwin s publication.
The Theory of Evolution also encompasses common descent, an idea claiming that: ...

12. Social Media And Traditional Media
Traditional media has failed to live up to its fourth estate role. This has lead us to
the question, can the more modern, social media, make up for the lack of success
that traditional media has had in fulfilling this watchdog role for the people? Kemp
s rules of CIDRA1 apply to social media as they do with traditional media. Thus, we
must determine what, if any, obstacles are present in preventing social media from
completing this role. More specifically, do the five filters that Chomsky highlights
apply to social media as they do to traditional media? Or does the fundamental
structure of social media allow for it to accomplish a fifth estaterole? I argue that
social media is more effective at playing a watchdog role than traditional media.
Social media is built on a platform that has the interest of working for the people in
terms of freedom of distributing ideas and checking elitepower in liberal
democracies. Furthermore, ...traditional media formats are no longer the only
politically relevant forms of media (Metzgar, Maruggi, 2009, p. 149). The reason
that social media can have higher success in acting as a watchdog role stems from
one central theme: when it comes to social media, less of Chomsky s filters lie
between the person wanting to distribute an idea and the ability to have this idea
delivered to the public.
We must understand the foundation of social media, and determine if it can meet the
standards brought by Kemp. This, along with determining if Chomsky s

In the texts The Little Refugee by Anh and Suzanne Do (2011) and The Arrival

emotionally explore the hearts of immigrants and refugees. Through the language and
images that are used, the responders are positioned to see the struggles of those who

One of these values is hope. This is particularly evident in The Little Refugee. In
The Little Refugee, the characters come to Australia because they feel as though
they do not belong in their countries of origin. Anh Do described in the text that
they were no longer welcome in their own country because his father fought in the
Vietnam War. After the war ended their lives were in great danger because they
were on the losing side. My family decided to escape to another country (p5). This
language shows how refugees feel when they come to Australia. They have no
hope in having a life in their own country so they come to Australia for hope. When
Anh Do first came to Australia, the first words he said were, What a great country
(p11). The power that this language uses shows that he was down and upset and
now with these simple words he is in a happy and positive place. We know this just
through the power of four words. The little boy would have been so happy to be
out of a country that was going to kill him. In end of this picture book, Anh Do did
have hope which lead him to have a good ending. That was that he hoped for
somewhere to be safe and to belong somewhere. Mum and Dad always told me to
have hope, and to believe that everything would turn out okay in the end... And they
were right. It did. (p 23). As this text is targeted towards children between the ages of

14. Hermione in A WinterВґs Tale by Shakespeare Essay
Shakespeare s play, A Winter s Tale, has many magical and mystical elements
throughout. A Winter s Tale is true to form as one of Shakespeare s romances.
There are tragic scenes in the beginning with a romantic and joyful twist at the end.
One such question raised in this play is whether Hermione, Queen of Sicily truly
died and resurrected or was alive throughout the play. It is hard to take a position on
either fronts of this question because Shakespeare uses many mystical elements that
play into the very question itself. Hermione, wife of Leontes King of Sicily, is
accused by her beloved husbandof adultery at the beginning of the play. Leontes is
distraught and will not listen to anyone about the innocence of his wife. He orders his

Paulina however has Leontes promise that he will not marry again. This scene gives
clues that Hermione may not be dead, as Paulina gives the inclination that he should
wait for the resurrection of his wife. As the scene follows in Paulina s home, she
reveals the statue created to depict an aged Hermione. There is great detail in the
art which overwhelms Leontes, where Paulina offers to draw the curtain. Leontes
rejects her offer and in that instance Paulina cues for dramatic music and the statue
comes to life. The last scene can be interrupted in many different ways. It is true to
form in Shakespeare s plays that there is an element of magic and mystery. Paulina
could be the magical witch in the play where she has the powers to resurrect
Hermione from the dead. It does however seem more likely that Hermione was
alive throughout the play. When Hermione was said to be dead of a broken heart,
she did so off stage. There was only word that she was not dead, it was not seen.
This could be interpreted that Hermione was sent into hiding. She could be in
hiding for various reasons such as to teach her wrongfully accusing husband a
lesson, or to wait for her reunion with her daughter. When Paulina asks for Leontes
to promise that he will not marry again, she is almost setting up for Hermione s
return to the play. Although it is not to off to think that the resurrection of Hermione
was a magical miracle, there is more evidence to show that she was truly alive

18. Bringing Chicago to Life
Carl Sandburg describes Chicago as a tough and hefty city. Chicago is portrayed as
a proud city, a city proud to be so strong and cunning whereas other cities of the
time were not. Chicago is characterized by the people and workers who live in it.
Sandburg loves Chicago even though it is a brutally tough city. Sandburg uses
imagery, personification, and punctuation to characterize the city as an actual person.
Sandburg uses imagery that gives Chicago the reputation of being wicked, crooked,
and brutal. The author gives references of when people have called the city such
names. Sandburg says, And they tell me you are crooked and I answer: Yes, it is true
I have seen/ the gunman kill and go free to kill again, (line 8 9). Not only did
Sandburg write this line to give an example of one of the things people call his city
but he is also saying yes I have seen it happen, Chicago can be dangerous. Despite
what people say about his city he still describes it as proud. Sandburg sneers, Come
and show me another city with lifted head singing so proud to be/ alive and coarse
and strong and cunning, (14 15). Sandburg defends his city while some people think
it is cruel and harsh he describes Chicago as proud of those characteristics. Sandburg
portrays Chicago as wicked, crooked, and brutal, but takes pride in living in a city
that is so tough.
Sandburg uses personification to describe Chicago as an actual living person. The
author characterizes Chicago as various types of workers.
19. Agape Community Environmental Analysis
Humans, as individual and in our community, must respect the created world and be
conscious of our duties toward future generations (Turkson 4). Catholicism teaches us
humans that we have a moral responsibility to uphold God s creation through
sustainability and social responsibility. For the purpose of this essay, I will be
drawing connections of how Pope John Paul II and Benedict XVI view ecology
within the inseparable human and natural environment. I will also discuss how the
Agape Community embodies both pope s ecological views. John Paul II was the first
pope to raise the topic about environment in his first encyclical, Redemptor Hominis
in 1979. He further capitalized on this theme with his encyclical Centesimus annus
introducing the concept of preserving the human and natural environment. Cardinal
Turkson writes, damage to the natural environment is serious, but destruction of the
human environment is more serious (Turkson 4). This statement implies that the
human environment is worth more than the natural environment because God has
given the earth to humanity. In other words, John Paul II encourages human need to
be met with the minimum possible damage to the natural environment. Although one
is placed on a higher pedestal, John Paul II... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his social encyclical, Caritas in veritate, Benedict XVI draws the conclusion that,
the way humanity treats the environment influences the way it treats itself, and vice
versa (Turkson 6). This comment alludes to the common biblical teaching that do
unto others as you would have them do unto you . To further drive his point about
interconnectedness, Benedict XVI uses an example about rising energy needs that
leads to rising energy price. This problem not only effects poverty stricken people but
also effects the natural environment by stripping it of its resources at alarming
20. Why Seat Belts Should Have Seatbelts
Seat belts should be required on school buses for a lot of foreseen reasons.
Seatbelts can make school buses so much safer in so many different ways. One
reason why seat belts should be required on school buses is that it will save students
lives. According to an article released by the Today show About 440,000 school
buses
carry 24 million kids each and every day during the school year, which can be
dangerous if the busgets in a crash. Undoubtedly, school buses should be required to
have seat belts if 24 million kids ride school buses each day. Furthermore, another
reason is it will get students to stay seated on the school buses . When students do
not stay seated on the bus and they are in awkward positions and in the aisle they
are more prone to facing severe injuries, maybe even, death . Adding on, if students
have seatbelts on, they will have to sit down because they can stand up with a
seatbelt on. Going even further, cameras can be on school buses just like the cameras
on the school buses in Glenwood Community School District. This will give a higher
chance of students getting punished and it can even result in a suspension off the

An example of a rule, they will follow is, they will sit down at all times when the
bus is in motion. The reason why some say this is an example is because, students
won t be able to take off their seatbelts if the bus is in motion because it will make
it an extremely dangerous situation if the bus gets into a wreck because when the
police and the investigation team comes out and investigates the crash they can say,
this person was in an awkward position. Or even, perhaps, they can say they weren t
wearing a seatbelt and the student can get into a lot of trouble because the police
have that power. That s why one of many reasons some say, seatbelts should be

influenced by the terrors of the world we live in. We see it on the news, social

the influences of our world. Hasbro s Nerf blasters are some of the most popular toys
for a child to have, and almost every American child will have a water gun at some
point in their life. It may be time to find out if in this age where the violence of guns
and bombs is so real it is ok to mimic this savagery in a game. I believe that while
imitating acts of brutality may have negative effects on teenagers, it can have very
positive influences as well.

will release some high frequency sound waves that will then record the sound waves

the anatomical structures that are being examined (Batdorf and Lacy).
Ultrasonography completely depends on the user, meaning that only a highly skilled
and savvy professional can use this tool correctly (Finch). These professionals are
referred to as sonographers. Sonographers may deal with patients ranging from
perfectly healthy to close to death (Finch). Ultrasonography is mainly used for

Fry also was working on improving the standards of research and the standards on
the medical instruments that were used at that time. In physical and rehabilitation
medicine, ultrasonic energy was starting to become used quite a bit. One of the
many men that were well known for doing this was Jerome Gersten. He worked at
the University of Colorado in 1953 and he used ultrasound to treat his patients who
suffered from rheumatic arthritis ( History ). In the year 1940, H Gohr and Th.

could be used as a diagnosis tool ( History ). They stated in their paper that using
ultrasonography to diagnose a patient would be able to reveal tumors, abscesses, and
such. Using ultrasonography, doctors would be able to treat their patients and would
be able to remove the tumors inside of them before they became a problem.
Unfortunately for them, however, they were unable to write any valid answers from

25. The Wild Life Of Christian The Lion Analysis
The big Idea or theme in the story, The Wild Life of Christian the Lion by Tod

lived in captured forever ever learn to be free in the wild? My evidence from the
text is In the wild , lions prowl thousands of acres of the land. Surly London was not
a place for a lion to be. Another thing from the the text that supports the main idea is
when John said, We knew we couldn t betray him by putting him in a zoo. Another
thing in the text of Christian the lion was, The plan was to release Christian into
the wild. But it was not as simple as it seemed it would be because, animals raised
in captivity do not have the skills to survive the wild. In the poem Wild
26. Gender And Sexuality As A Category For Historical Analysis
For years, many scholars have provided many discussions over the topic of gender
and sexuality. However, one needs to ask themselves: Are these two topics, gender
and sexuality, useful as a category for historical analysis? The articles written by
both Joan W. Scott and Afsaneh Najmabadi, answer such a question. By critically
examining and assessing their two article, can the usefulness of gender and sexuality
as a category for historical analysis be proven.
In Gender: A Useful Category of Historical Analysis, Joan W. Scott provides many
angles to explore the relevancy of gender. The first thing that needs to be examined is
her argument. The main argument that Joan W. Scott is trying to make is how
beneficial to history using gender as a category for analysis would turn out.
Another factor that needs to be made in assessing her article is how she presents
her argument and findings. Scott formats her article with a beginning, middle, and
end. She begins by defining gender, and how that term has been used in general.
She goes on to describe some of the theories that have analyzed gender. The next
part that she explains is how, of late, politics has been coincided with the analysis of
gender. Finally, she ends her paper by providing her bottom line opinion about the
analysis and approach of gender.
Now with the structure of her paper in mind, the next important assessment is in the
sources she uses. The sources that Joan Scott utilizes in her argument are mostly
27. Allocative Efficiency and Dynamic Efficiency
Efficiency is to fulfil the needs and wants of consumers by making optimal use of
scarce limited resources. There are several meanings of efficiency and all are
linked to how well a market shares scarce resources to satisfy consumers. The two
of the terms within efficiency going to illustrate are allocative efficiency and
dynamic efficiency. Allocative efficiency Allocative efficiency looks into the
goods and services that match the changing consumers needs and preferences,
reflecting on the price willing to pay. Allocative efficiency is reached when there
is no one made better off without making someone else worse off. The condition
required for allocative efficiency is when the value in which consumers place on a
good or service equals the cost of resources being used up in production, total
economic welfare is maximised. In the diagram to the side, at P1 and output Q1
the market is balanced, at this point the total area of producer and consumer
surplus is maximised. If suppliers would limit the output shown on Q2 and
increase the market price to P2, sellers will be gaining more producer surplus by
expanding their profit margins. By doing this there would be a bigger loss of
consumer surplus. Therefore to sum this diagram P2, Q2 is not an allocative
efficient distribution of resources for this market, whereas P1, Q1 he market stability
price is considered to be allocative efficient. There are many diverse market
structures at presence. Allocative efficiency is a
28. The True Face of Unethical Humor
Following Chaucer s description of the Miller in the General Prologue, The Miller
s Tale reveals that the Miller is more complex than his appearance initially
suggests. Given its bawdy and humorous nature, the Miller s story consists of
events of cuckoldry, foolishness, and secrets (1720, 1718, and 1719). As the teller
of such a tale, the Miller would immediately be classified as a crude man, interested
only in the physical appeal of women. However, as the tale unfolds, it imparts the
Miller s unexpected empathy as he commiserates with Alison, who is trapped by the
norms of society. The Miller s story portrays not only the Miller s expected vulgar
and deceptive characteristics but also his surprisingly sympathetic nature.... Show

The Miller displays complete apathy for the norms of society through his satire of
the metaphysical Knight and clergyman. Furthermore, the Miller s bawdy nature
progressively worsens as he initially begins with his songs of prostitution and later
describes a woman s private areas, an action of atrocious audacity and low
thinking, but he asserts is noble (1718). Thus, in his bawdy rebellion, the Miller
solely focuses on his lewd tale, disregarding the norms of society. The Miller s
deceptive qualities influence the characters actions in his story. During his
pilgrimage with the Miller, Chaucer discovers the habits of the golden thumb
Miller and describes him as a fox (1712). The Miller would cheat people by
steal[ing] corn and charg[ing] for it three times (1712). The Miller s characters
also use guile as frequently as the Miller does. In their affair, both Nicholas and
Alison devise a plan to trick the jealous John. While speaking to John alone,
Nicholas warns him of a flood to come and states he must not waste words on the
wise; however, Nicholas tricks the so called wise carpenter and has intercourse with
John s wife after John falls asleep (1727). Furthermore, Absolom begs for a kiss
from Alison, but she beard[s] him, another instance of bawdy deceit (1730). Thus, the
Miller s disposition of treachery propels his characters in their misdemeanors,
exemplifying his immoral nature; however, every apple on the tree is not rotten.

High traffic fees and fines quite often cause financial difficulties for the lower class.
Transportation has become a necessity over the past one hundred years. Unfortunately
with the constant improvements in vehicle technologies the cost of owning and
maintaining a vehicle has constantly increased. Going hand in hand with these
vehicle improvements the California Vehicle Code (CVC) has become extensive,
covering every possible driving mistake with a traffic infraction. Following these
changes the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) has constantly grown

There is another way a driver can lose their license. The DMV keeps a driving
record on all drivers with a running point tally, accumulating every moving violation
a licensee receives. The points, either one or two are given according to the type of
offense committed. Any driver accumulating four points in one year will be
considered a negligent operator and may have their license suspended. Six points in
two years or eight points in three years results in the same punishment. (CA DMV,

Synthesis and Reactivity of tert butyl Chloride via an Sn1 Reaction
Copeland 1
Introduction/Background
Substitution reactions are important chemical processes that contribute to the
production of new compounds. Simplistically, these reactions take place through a
series of steps in which one functional group is replaced by another (March). There
are two types of nucleophilic substitution reactions, first order and second order, but
this experiment only involves the Sn1 first order reactions. Sn1 reactions are
considered unimolecular meaning that only one molecule is involved in the rate
determining step, the slowest step of the reaction which determines the overall speed
of the reaction. In contrast, Sn2 reactions are considered bimolecular, and complete
the substitution reaction in one step. The main components of these reactions are the
nucleophile and the leaving group; a nucleophile replaces the leaving group by
donating its electrons to form a new bond to the carbon (Weldegirma). For this
experiment, the nucleophiles and leaving groups of the Sn1 reactions are alkyl
halides and alcohols respectively. When a hydrogen atom is replaced by halogen in
an alkane, the resulting compound is referred to as a alkyl halide. There are certain
factors that affect both Sn1 and Sn2 reactions which include the structure of the
substrate, and the concentration and reactivity of the nucleophile (Sn2 only). If a

It seems several of the world s greatest discoveries are on accident. Over the next
several years the French and the English attempted settlements and control on
Madagascar but failed miserably, one memorable Christmas day 1672 local tribe
members attacked Fort Dauphine (the current French colony) brutally and
purposefully killing fourteen men and thirteen women. This massacre is rumored
to have been because these fourteen men deserted and divorced native Malagasy
women in order to marry younger and purer French women. This battle lasted a
long eighteen months as the French remained barricaded in their fort while the
angry tribal members raged battle. In 1674 thirty remaining men and the one

Designing Projects for the Public
Thousands people all over the world share their ideas to create future projects and
that project is in art and animation. It is really wise to start from the very beginning.
The process of creating or even preparing for a big project takes time. In order to
make a character or idea come to life one needs the right tools. This is where the
skills in art come in, basically the fun part. Everyone would like to see their ideas
come to life and sharing it with the public. Soon this will lead any person to create
a project that involves gaming and animated television shows. Before starting a
project there are a few things a person may need. A character may be the important
thing but there are other factors that are far more important. What would the
character do or what environment would it be placed in? The Developer also has to
think about the storyboard which involves writing. Every project needs to start with a
story (How a Game pg.1). A person can make up their own story and can also
receive help from anyone assisting in the project. Everyone may be inspired by
something they have seen which gives them many ideas for a good story. it is
important for the team to come up with a decision so they can know what fits. Once
it is decided the team will start to work on the storyboard (How a Game pg.2).

Theory of Planned Behavior A theory often used in the research of individual health
behavior and behavioral intentions is the theory of planned behavior (Ajzen, 1991).
According to this theory, the performance of any behavior depends on behavioral
intention. Behavioral intention is viewed as being dependent on behavioral beliefs
(e.g., attitude towards the behavior), normative beliefs, and control beliefs.
Normative beliefs are beliefs about the expectations of others, and control beliefs are
beliefs about the factors that may help or hinder the performance of the behavior.

In A Sand Country Almanac by, Aldo Leopold, he talks about the sky, and the

and the history explaining the change of our generations. He expresses how beautiful
nature is, and the need to preserve it, for example, there are no words to describe the
beauty of nature. Due to a glacier, one fell and crushed a valley that had soon slowly
started filling with water; this is explaining the change that had occurred from
long ago to how it is now. In Land Ethic it talks about evolution and how it was
studied. He talks the relations between people and their society but also the
specific role people had, due to the Golden Rule. There are two Kinds of Ethics
Leopold talks about, which are ecological and philosophical. Ethic is carried in a
way to be a connection with people and the land, for example they think the people

primary visual cortex provides a skill set in order to identify the objects presented

The system consists of the eyes where the information is collected, geniculate lateral
nucleus and visual cortex. The visual cortex could be subdivided into the primary
visual cortex and the striate cortex. This sensory system is located at the back of a
brain parts of which are located in both hemispheres. Recent studies obtained a
sufficient amount of information in order to construct the two stream hypothesis,
which describes the ventral and dorsal streams. The ventral stream begins at the
primary visual cortex and goes to the inferior temporal cortex. Main functional
responsibilities of this area include identification of objects and the emergence of
the long term memory the origins of which are placed in this area (Rauschecker,
Josef P and Sophie K. Scott 722). Dorsal stream also begins at the primary visual
cortex and ends at the posterior parietal cortex. It is mainly responsible for the body
part control required in order to manipulate an object. The research shows that these
what and why systems are not directly related, and the damage in one affect the other
only to a certain extent. It could be explained by the fact that that input is transformed
differently via action and

Did you know that in the last 50 years over two million whales have been killed?
The United States views whaling very differently than Japan does. It is a complicated

everyone should know both sides of the whale hunting issues before they act on the
issue. To start out I am going to tell you a little about whaling. The first whale hunters
were in the prehistoric times. At first they would just kill and eat beached whales.
That became such a habit that they started hunting them. Most whale hunters use

a unique resource of great scientific interest to mankind and are a vital part of the

citizens of the United States. Japan started whaling way back in the 2nd Century
BC. They whale because they have whale meat as part of their diet. In 1946, whale
meat was not considered special food anymore but was necessary to keep the
Japanese healthy and alive because they depended on it for so long. People ate whale
meat as a source of protein whether they liked it or not. In 1947, about 47% of the
total animal protein was whale meat. Until the 1960 s, whale meat continued to be
their main source of protein. In 1962, the whaling industry recorded 226,000 tons of

harming it. Commensal species benefits from its host by obtaining food, shelter,
transportation and other support. The host species is rarely ever harmed by the
Commensal species. The term commensalism was founded in 1876 by Belgian
Paleontologist and Zoologist Pierre Joseph Van Brenden. Commensalisms comes
from the latin word commensalis which translates to sharing a table .

An example of two animals in a Commensal relationships is the remora fish and
shark. The remora fish being the commensal species, attaches itself to its host s
belly using a special sucker disk in its mouth as seen in IMAGE A. It travels
alongside the shark and uses it for transportation. The remora fish consumes the
parasites which build up on their host s body and benefits their host by keeping the
shark clean. The remora fish also eats any leftover food which was previously
consumed by the shark. In short, the remora fish benefits from its host by means of
food and the host benefits by keeping clean and free from

Diamond is a giant covalent network structure, having each Carbon atom sharing
electrons with four other Carbon atoms, therefore having four single covalent bonds
formed. These Carbon covalent bonds are extremely strong and account for two of
diamond s most prominent physical properties among all elements, hardness and a
high melting point. Diamond has a high melting point due to the fact that diamond is
a covalent lattice, hence, melting this covalent lattice involves breaking many strong
covalent bonds. This melting process requires a large amount of energy and, as a
result, melting diamond requires a high temperature, approximately around 35500C.
Having strong covalent bonds, diamond also has a high level of hardness due to...

It are these properties which allow graphite to be used to draw with (using a pencil),
as the friction against weak intermolecular forces on paper causes layers of graphite
to rub off onto the paper. It is this layered structure and the weak bonding between
the sheets that determines the soft slippery feel of graphite, thus, creating graphite s
self lubricating property. Being used a lubricant, graphite can be used at very high or
low temperatures for many different works, such as: steelmaking, wire die extrusion
lubricant, gear lubricant for mining machinery and to lubricate locks. While natural
graphite can be used in zinc carbon batteries in electric motor brushes and other
specific works.
From all of these uses, graphite also has the ability to conduct electricity, and we can
the reason as to why when looking at the electron arrangement in graphite. As each
Carbon atom bonds to three other Carbon atoms, there is a fourth electron
remaining in the bonding level. These remaining electrons in each Carbon atom
form into a sea of delocalised electrons, moving around the whole sheet of atoms in
the one layer. It is the ability of these delocalised electrons to move freely through
their own Carbon layer, hence, making graphite a good conductor of electricity.
Being a good conductor of electricity graphite, can be used as electrodes to an arc
lamp and to carry the electricity that heats electric arc furnaces.
Due to graphite s layered structure,

The process of developing an understanding of a concept utilises cognitive and
metacognitive skills. Through the implementation of cognitive strategies, learners
construct knowledge prior to using metacognitive strategies to guide, evaluate and
regulate their learning. Learning is the acquisition of new information which heavily
relies on one s thinking and how they retain the acquired information. It has been said
that successful learners have their special ways of doing it . Therefore, teachers can
be of more support to students academic wellbeing if they are able to understand how
their students think. Consequently, they can enforce teaching strategies which enable
their students to learn more efficiently. This paper will describe... Show more content

The lesson aims to teach Text Types (Recount Text) and equip students with a better
understanding of factual text types, in particular, Recount Text. In regards to the
lessons goals, students are required to engage in oral interactions and share a special
event they have experienced. This activity aims to explain the social function of
recounts after sharing their own experience; to identify the generic structure;
recognise the language features; and ultimately compose their own recount through
the use of Simple Past Tense. The lesson is 60 minutes long and follows previous
lessons on narrative text under the topic of text types. The rationale for doing this
(what are you doing?) is due to the assumption that students have mastered Simple
Past Tense skills from the previous lesson as it is a major component in writing
recounts. An appropriate starting point for sequencing instructions should identify its
structure (lesson structure or instruction s structure?) . According to Woodward
(2001), lessons should consist of three main segments. Firstly, the beginning phase
involves mentally preparing students for learning. Secondly, the central teaching and
learning stage includes pointing out, presenting the core material, activating learning
task and performing the task before providing constructive feedback. Lastly, the end
phase consists of reviewing the lesson s key points and administering quiz

Business Memo To: From: Date: 2/5/2014 Subject: Manager Employee Issues I
am writing the memo to share some issues I have with one of my employees. Ten
moths ago I hired a salesman with Chinese origin to help the company to take over
the Chinese businesses in Plano, Texas. I cannot click on personal level with him
since the very beginning of our relationship which is causing troubles in our
communications. Another reason for our communication problem could be the
different cultural background we have and our opposite personalities. I believe
employees should be able to connect to their leader to become good followers. I
think I am extrovert and should be able to get closer to him over time but there are
some other issues that I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In our company only a few senior salesmen have personal assistant which gives me to
choose between cave to Wu s demands or terminate him. Managing subordinates with
different cultural backgrounds and working styles from your own is very hard
because it makes your decision as manager subjective. Managers tend to evaluate the
attitude of the subordinate not his performance and any differences are seen as
problems. This creates tension at workplace, atmosphere of low cooperation. Dealing
with situation like this should be done with reflecting mind set and self regulation.
The manager should step back, explore the issue, weight positives versus negatives,
accept the person the way he is and try to be objective in his evaluation. Dealing with
different subordinate involves paying specific attention to the concept of
psychological work contract. According to this concept the employee will maintain
the high production, low grievances if the manager guarantees and respects the norms
of the employee informal culture (let the employees alone, make certain they make
adequate wages, and have secure jobs). The issue is that subordinate s norms of
informal culture are altered and usually managers keep requiring the same input
without keeping his part of the contract. Understanding the different cultural
background and accepting the different working style should help you in taking
rational decision. A manager should not be thinking about a problem employee but
46. The Importance Of Propaganda In The World War
From the beginning of World War I, both the Allied and Central Powers used
various tactics to shape international opinion. A standard feature of all war is
propaganda. The use of propaganda during the war was common for all countries
because it could be used in many different ways. Propaganda is a form of
communication, often biased in nature it is aimed at altering how a population
views a specific topic or subject towards some cause. In an effort of forming a
consensus to a standard set of belief patterns a position or political agenda must be
established. Propaganda is information to further an agenda, often by presenting facts
selectively, perhaps a white lie by omission, to encourage a particular viewpoint.
Furthermore using messages to produce an emotional response rather than a rational
one to the information presented people are more likely to go with instinctive
feelings as opposed to logical thinking. It refers only to the control of the opinion by
significant symbols or, to speak more concretely unless accurately by stories rumors
reports pictures and other forms of social communication. Propaganda is concerned
with the management of opinions and attitudes by the direct manipulation of social
success chain rather than by altering other conditions in the environment... (Lasswell
9) Although the term propaganda has mostly been acquired with being negative,
propaganda in its original sense was neutral and could refer to uses that were
generally positive, such as
47. Racial Discrimination And Its Effects On American Culture
If there is one thing I have noticed during my, admittedly, short sixteen years, it is
the racial discrimination and obvious bigotry of the those who are not white .
Stereotypes and detrimental comments are slung every which way. Others, rely on
subtle jabs while some are oblivious to the offense of the people they are around. It
seems to me, that people do not seem to care. I have listened to countless
conversations where people would nonchalantly insult their own culture and
heritage as if they were being humorous. I have friends who would willingly
describe themselves as whitewashed. Washwashed: Used to cover up or gloss over
faults, errors, or wrongdoings, or absolve a wrongdoer from blame. It is interesting to
say in the least. What are they saying that is wrong? Are we wrong to have been
forcefully and unknowingly assimilated into Western culture? I have spent so much
timelearning English from a young age that my competence with my mother tongue
is practically nonexistent. We live in a multicultural country, but Canada had only
been known for its hospitality and welcoming atmosphere for a couple of decades.
Funny how many ugly, bloody things can be quickly swept under the rug. The
Komagata Maru is an excellent example of racial discrimination, as well as the many
residential schools that wrecked abuse and havoc upon so many Native families. On
a short term mission s trip this summer, we were invited by a First Nations reserve
on Vancouver Island to help run a

Comparing Augustus and Qin Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi was crowned king in 246
BC during the Warring States era (475 221 BC). Two centuries later, Caesar Augustus
founded the Roman Empire and became Rome s first Emperor, ruling from 27 BC
until his death in 14 AD. Both emperors ruled with distinct and individual morals in
which they laid upon their society. Both rulers utilized military victories, new code
laws, and established a sense of unity throughout the land. Each contribution to their
state and to their civilizations is unique to their own opinion. Qin Shi Huangwas the

He made many economic reforms for his community, such as creating one system
of currency for all of China; this facilitated the different parts of China to become
more involved with each other. Thus, unification. Huangdi also got rid of
feudalism, which was a social and economic system that was prominent for a very
long time. This meant if one was in the military in exchange for their services, the
nobility held land for them. This ridding of feudalism had a great impact over the
land because it gave more power to the people of lower social standing who had
always had to work for those above them. Without feudalism, each person in China
was independent and made wealth for themselves. Chinese economy changed as
trade increased for a long while afterwards. He also began the renounced Great
Wall of China, which was very useful later to military campaigns and protection.
Also, he built the first roads and bridges for not only the state, but the land as a
whole. Lastly, he began the Qin dynasty, which was the first successful empire. In
the Qin inscription it gives specific examples of how the Emperor has united the
land. Human affairs are made clear And there is harmony between fathers and sons.

49. Sight In All The Light We Cannot See By Anthony Dooer
Sight is an amazing thing, isn t it? Well, some people don t have that luxury due to
the fact that it has either been taken away from them, or they didn t have it in the
first place. Quite a few stories utilize the idea of a person without sight , whether it
be metaphorical or literal, but the majority of writers stay away from the subject due
to how different it is to writing without it. A few authors, however, do the exact
opposite and have several characters lose their literal or metaphorical sight . In the
novel, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Dooer, several characters have their
literal or metaphorical sight taken away from them by various means, including the
characters Frederick, Werner, Marie Laure, Madame Manec, and Etienne.
One such character is Frederick, who went to the same program that Werner did.
He lost his sight due to being beaten up by other boys at the program and ended up
with brain damage. In the book, the reader does not see his childhood, so the reader
has to infer the basics from what we can see during his trips home. What the reader
knows about his family before he was sent to the program is that his mother was
very rich, his father was very involved in politics, and that he was in love with
birds due to their freedom, which he did not have. What the reader knows about his
own life was that he was very shy, he idolized the Audubon society and their love for
birds, and that he was bullied in school. Before he had brain damage, he used

Understanding the Convergence of Media Systems and Political Communication in
the U.S. and Western Europe
A powerful trend is clearly underway in the direction of greater similarity in the way
the public sphere is structured across the world. In their products, in their professional
practices and cultures, in their systems of relationships with other political and social
institutions, media systems across the world are becoming increasingly alike.
Political systems, meanwile, are becoming increasingly similar in the patterns of
communication they incorporate.
We will explore this trend toward global homogenization of media systems and the

Schiller, 1969, 1976; Boyd Barret, 1977). It saw homogenization as a result of
cultural domination. The global expansion of mass media industries based in
advanced capitalist countries and particularly in the United States resulted in the
destruction of local cultures and their replacement by a single, standardized set of
cultural forms tied to consumer capitalism and American political hegemony. Europe
occupied an ambiguous middle position in this literature. European media were seen
as part of the dominant Western cultural influence on developing countries; at the
same time, the early cultural imperialism literature also raised the issue of U.S.
influence over European culture.
The idea that media system change can be understood as a process of
Americanization is still very much alive, and there is obviously much truth to it.
American programming still dominates many media markets, in some industries
film for example perhaps as much now as ever before. And at a deeper level,
moreover, in terms of the kinds of media structures and practices that are emerging
and the direction of change in the relation of media to other social institutions, it is
reasonable to say that homogenization is to a significant degree a convergence of
world media toward forms that first evolved in the U.S. The U.S. was once almost
alone among
51. Analysis Of Bound For Canaan
Bound for Canaan: The Epic Story of the Underground Railroad, America s First
Civil Rights Movement by Fergus M. Bordewich is an inspiring piece of literature
that tackles on information about the underground railroad, and many other aspects
we ve never known about at that point in time. The book is written by Fergus
Bordewich, born on November 1, 1947 in New York City, New York.Fergus
graduated from Columbia University and now lives with his wife Jean P.
Bordewich in San Francisco as one of the best historians in the world. He is the
author of many historical fictions such as The First Congress: How James Madison,
George Washington, and a Group of Extraordinary Men Invented the Government,
America s Great Debate: Henry Clay, Stephen A. Douglas, and the Compromise that
Preserve the Union, and many more. As you can see, he s been changing perspectives
on many historical topics for quite some time.
The main argument for Bound for Canaan was to respond to his earlier hardcover
edition of Bound for Canaan: The Underground Railroad and the War for the Soul of
America. It also explains that the underground railroad was more than Harriet
Tubman, it s a system of channels and different networks full of people who have
helped make the underground railroad successful, The author supports his argument
by giving us new information that we would have never found out on our own. In the
book the author starts with a brief dedication which states This book is dedicated to
the countless thousands of men and women who fled the bounds of slavery, but were
recaptured or died at the hands of their pursuers before they reached the safe embrace
of the underground railroad. They are not forgotten .
Bound for Canaan has accomplished so much. It s an eye opener for anyone who
reads it. It s the story that makes you want to get out and learn more about every
different aspect in the book. If the author wanted me to get one idea from the book it
would definitely be to be open about the history of the underground railroad. Seeing
now that I ve read the book, there are things about it that isn t taught in regular
schools. In schools they only teach you about what it is and that Harriet Tubman was
the leader.
