Ford Vs Pinto Case
Profits are the ultimate result for any business that is in search of remaining viable in a market. Ford
Motor has had a challenge with the new car model Pinto. They had a choice in spending more money
with the Pinto car. The math done by the NHTSA was a total of $11 per auto. 11Millions cars were
supposed to be launched at the cost of $12.5 million, at $11 based on the percentage car that will
produce a result of $137.5 million. The cost is more than what they were willing to pay (, Shaw
Barry). National Highway Traffic Safety Administration came up with the approximation of 180 burn
deaths, 180 serious burns, and 2100 burned vehicle. It seemed no one really did any soul searching on

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has established guidelines for all automakers to
fallow. The guidelines were made to reduce fire during automobile collision. In 1972 and 1973 , the
standard was 20mph and 30 mph of a rear end accident without any spillage of fuel (, Shaw Barry).
On the other hand, Pinto could not withstand such impact spilling fuel on passengers inside the car.
Between 1971 1978, Ford statistics on death by Pinto to 13 lives while critic put it at 500 (, Shaw
Barry). Several lawsuits were initiated by the victims and fines were paid by Ford motor. Even though,
the organization claimed they were following established rules, but the ethical and moral position
would have been to acknowledge the fault of the car and apologized for the fatality. Nevertheless, the
executives stood by their product and never waiver the fact that the product was not safe to be on the
road. Several families sued Ford Motor and received compensation for their lost, but it is not like
having the alive and well. Through the years, the company survive all those obstacle and remained in
business. An apology to the families who have lost love one would have been seen as repentant to one

Merrill Finch Inc. Essay
8 23 MERRILL FINCH INC. RISK AND RETURN
a. (1) Why is T bill s return independent of the state of the economy? Do T bill s promise a completely
risk free return? Explain
(2) Why are High Tech s returns expected to move with the economy, whereas, Collections are
expected to move counter to the economy?
1. The 5.5% T bill return does not depend on the state of the economy because the Treasury must
redeem the bills at par regardless of the state of the economy; therefore, T bills are risk free in the
default risk sense because the 5.5% return will be realized in all possible economic states.
Consequently, this return is composed of the real risk free rate, (i.e. 3%, plus an inflation premium,
say 2.5%). As the economy is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Calculate the missing CVs and fill in the blanks on the row for CV in the table. Does the CV produce
the same risk rankings as the standard deviation? Explain
The coefficient of variation (CV) is a standardized measure of dispersion about the expected value; it
shows the amount of risk per unit of return. CV = /. CVT bills = 0.0%/5.5% = 0.0. CVHigh Tech =
20.0%/12.4% = 1.6. CVCollections = 13.2%/1.0% = 13.2. CVU.S. Rubber = 18.8%/9.8% = 1.9. CVM
= 15.2%/10.5% = 1.4.
When we measure risk per unit of return, Collections, with its low expected return, becomes the most
risky stock. The CV is a better measure of an asset s stand alone risk than because CV considers both
the expected value and the dispersion of a distribution a security with a low expected return and a low
standard deviation could have a higher chance of a loss than one with a high but a high .
e. Suppose you created a two stock portfolio by investing $50,000 in High Tech and $50,000 in
Collections. (1) Calculate the expected return (rp), the standard deviation (p), and the coefficient of
variation (CVp) for this portfolio and fill in the appropriate blanks in the table. (2) How does the
riskiness of this two stock portfolio compare with the riskiness of the individual stocks if they were

The Changing Lives Documentary Analysis
No treatment plan is the same for every person and every recovery is different as well for everyone.
The changing lives is a transformational documentary about the lives of a few people on how they got
out of addiction. It shows the process through their very compelling group therapy. But most
importantly, what really caught me was the program for the women, that helped them with treatment
when they were at the verge of losing their children.
Body
The group therapy was very compelling to me. I really saw that they were helping one another to get
to the root of each other s problems, digging deep and peeling at the source. Some were very
uncomfortable at first but once they saw that they had a lot of similarities with others, they slowly
started opening up. The therapist was also going deep, but it was for a cause. It was to help them heal
and move on with their lives. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

change that struck me the most was the day they graduate. This day signifies a milestone in their lives
of how far they ve come in their journey and how successful they been in it. It s the sign that shows
that they have finally made to the finish line and are to keep it

In-Vitro Fertilization Is Ethical Essay
The use of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, used during in vitro fertilization, for medical screening
and sex pre selection is ethical so as long as it is done for the child s best interest and not for
superficial desires of the parents. Every year, around 3,945,875 babies are born in the United States
(NIH, 2017). Unfortunately, 12.1% of women ages 15 44 and 8% of men ages 25 to 44 struggle with
infertility issues (CDC, 2016). It is also challenging for gay and lesbian couples to become parents in
which one is biologically related by using their gametes (Wittenstein, 2016). Luckily, there are several
medical advancements that help individuals become pregnant. A controversial medical advancement
that is commonly used is known as In Vitro ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To others, there are a plethora of issues in IVF that constitute it as being unethical. Opponents
consider it unethical to play God and create life in an unnatural manner. They believe couples should
conceive on their own without the help of a medical procedure involving embryos. This is due to their
opposition to the destruction of embryos during or after the procedure. For example, embryos are
frozen in large groups and are disposed of if not used or remain frozen for numerous years (Bliss,
2012). Others believe that people should simply adopt a child instead of going through the expensive
and risky procedure of IVF. However, these arguments are only the tip of the iceberg of IVF being that
there are several topics to be discussed. One of the most interesting topics within IVF is that of
designer babies . Although predominantly permissible by law, the ethics of designer babies
encompasses whether or not it is moral to use PGD for preventive medical measures, sex pre
selection, and the determination of a child s various traits. As stated above, the ethicality of the
procedures lie within the intention of pursuing

An Unknown Girl by Moniza Alvi
An Unknown Girl by Moniza Alvi is a free verse poem about the author s experience getting her hand
hennaed in an Indian bazaar. Throughout the poem, Alvi makes use of structure techniques like end
stopped lines, occasional rhymes, language, imagery, and changes in tone to explore different aspects
of the concept of identity.
Moniza Alvi uses the format of the poem to illustrate how the speaker s identity is split between East
and West. The poem itself is centered in the middle of the page. From what the reader knows of
Moniza Alvi, they can deduce that the centering of the poem is symbolic of her own division between
the Pakistani and Eastern aspects of her identity, and its more pronounced English and Western
aspects. The poem is evenly placed between the two sides of the page, just as the speaker s identity is
divided between Indian and Pakistan, and England. Additionally, the speaker describes the setting as
in an evening bazaar. The evening is a period between the day and the night, with a mix of both but
not fully one or the other. It represents how the speaker herself is between the identities of the Eastern
and Western cultures. At that moment, she is neither fully Eastern, nor fully Western, like the evening
is not fully day, nor fully night.
However, the format of the poem could also be used to underline the grander concept of globalization
and westernization, and the blending of whole countries cultural identities. The centered poem could
represent India, as

Essay on The Reality of Political Realism
When discussing whether or not a nation state should enter a war and when to do so, three beliefs on
foreign policy and war exist. The three different diplomatic stances are that of pacifism, just war
theory, and political realism. Political realism, or realpolitik as it is often referred to, is the belief war
should only occur when it is in the national interest of the particular nation state. Henry Kissinger, a
political realist, in his book Diplomacy argues that realism is the only logical answer. Just war
theorists, along with pacifists, on the other hand oppose these arguments and therefore critique of this
form of diplomatic action. To construct a valid understanding of the realist perspective the arguments

Darwin s survival of the fittest was a strong belief Roosevelt held and theorized all life followed the
ideas of natural selection. Natural selection and survival of the fittest are theories that the strong will
naturally survive by both, eliminating the weak and having greater likelyhood to pass on.
With the German invasion of Luxenbourgh and Belgium directly breaking treaties previously signed
stating peace Roosevelt stated to not take sides. Roosevelt s reaction was that of no concern at first,
yet he was concerned once war erupted in Europe. Mainly concerned that the war would disrupt the
balance of power in Europe and the German invasions would lead to German invasions pressing
forward into Latin and South America. German military occupations in Latin America would pose a
direct threat for the US if this were to be true. Roosevelt felt the problem would inevitably resolve
itself prior to occupations in Latin America based on the principles that a balance of power still exists.
A balance of power is the way the European government had operated for quite sometime now. If one
nation state became all powerful and started campaigns to take over other nation states in Europe, a
coalition of nation states would form to put down the aggressing nation state to insure the stability of
their own nation state. Therefore, according to Roosevelt and his political realist views, a country

High School And Social Hierarchy
In high school, social hierarchy is typically determined by perceived popularity. Adolescents
experience many emotional, biological and cognitive changes during this time. Teenagers struggle
with their identity as social acceptance becomes an increasingly important factor in their lives. Cliques
are formed in high school as a representation of a small group of people with common interests.
Cliques are joined mostly by girls because it gives them a sense of security and confidence they may
otherwise lack, but boys are known to join cliques as well. Cliques provide adolescents with a strong
sense of self worth and can in fact help one grow as an individual, sharing common interests and
values. Adolescents who appear with high social power tend to have similar qualities and group
together. Those who are less popular tend to isolate themselves more while befriending others with a
similarly low social status. Often times, those who are socially dominant are generally more
influential, daring, physically attractive and socially appropriate. (Closson 3) Cliques can foster
community in a group of close knit individuals. Different types of cliques provide adolescents with an
opportunity to group together with those with similar interests. They allow teenagers to satisfy their
psychological needs such as gaining a sense of belongingness and security. Although there are positive
aspects of cliques, there is a correlation between cliques and social pressure. Some clique members

Causes Of The English Reformation
The English Reformation occurs during the Renaissance era officially beginning with Henry VIII
breaking from the Catholic Church in Rome. The country s religion sways back and forth from
Catholicism and Protestantism due to the reigns of Henry s legitimate children: Edward VI, Mary I,
and Elizabeth I. In 1485, Henry VII became the King of England when he killed King Richard III in
battle. Henry VII had two legitimate sons named Arthur and Henry to inherit the throne when he dies.
Arthur married at the age of nine to Catherine Aragon, the Spanish Princess, who was fourteen at the
time. They went their separate ways before commencement and Arthur died a few years later of
natural causes. Henry VIII was next in line to the throne and became King. When he was fourteen, he
wanted to marry his brother s widow, Catherine, who was seven years older than him. He bribed the
Pope to allow that marriage to his brother s widow. Once the marriage was approved, Henry decided
he needed an heir to the throne. At the time, women were not rulers of countries and therefore they did
not inherit the throne. Catherine had two boys, but both of them died either within seven days or was
stillborn. She ended up having one surviving child, a girl named Mary. As days went by, Catherine
was getting older and still did not produce an heir to the throne. Henry soon became more attracted to
her intern, Anne. Henry VIII went back to the Pope wanting an annulment from Catherine with a small

Roman Slaves
The ends aimed at in building Negro cabins should be: first, the health and comfort of the occupants;
second the convenience of nursing, surveillance, discipline, and the supply of food and water; and
thirdly, economy of construction...their houses should be provided with large glass windows. Light
and air are necessary to the proper making of blood.
Even though the conditions appear favorable, these instructions are not to be mistaken for kindness.
Seeing that the average cost of a slave in the American South in 1850 was equivalent to $40,000 in
today s dollars, slaves were an economic investment for the master. Keeping them well kept was
necessary so their labor will pay their cost off while eventually turning into profit.

First, there needs to be distinguished whether Ancient Rome, Nineteenth Century American South,

a society with slaves is A society which slavery exists but slavery is not the dominant labor system.
Systems have family labor, a system of the indentured servitude, systems of wage labor to compete
with the slavery. Slavery is just one of the many forms of labor. However, slave societies on the other
hand are Systems in which slavery being the dominant form of labor that shapes every other social
relationship in that society . Using these definitions, it can be determined that the Nineteenth Century
American South was a slave society while Ancient Rome and contemporary Dubai can be categorized
as societies with slaves. The American South relied nearly solely on race based labor for plantations
and this subordinate relationship further perpetuated post emancipation with black codes and Jim
Crow laws. However, while slavery was persistent in Ancient Rome, it did not affect other social
relationships in the society and it was not racially

In the lab, we investigated what effects an injection of epinephrine would have on a cockroach s
running speed and righting response. The righting response occurs when the cockroach is placed on it

the fight or flight response. Epinephrine is also a catecholamine. When the body feels threatened,
epinephrine is released, allowing the body to have energy to respond to this threat. One effect that the

Maya Lin Vietnam Veterans Memorial Analysis
1. The artist of the memorial, Maya Lin, is an American of Asian descent who is famous for her
sculptures and land art. Her most famous work, the Vietnam Memorial, was chosen in a contest, and
her designs both mesmerized and angered many people. Since them, works and designs she has
created for competitions have been mainly memorials and remembrances based on historical events.
Her works are intended to use the natural texture and geology of the space around the monument to its
advantage in its creation.

7. When Lin won the competition for the designing of the monument, a lot of sceptics managed to
successfully take apart her design when she unveiled it. Some critics claimed it looked like a scar; an
embarrassment for United States (as it was moving along with the hill it was created on, and therefore
looked hiding), while others saw something that was trying to hide from the spotlight. Somehow,
some critics saw Lin s Chinese heritage as an issue for this design this work (but how one can make a
successful argument for this theory is beyond me). Nonetheless, the project continued and the
monument was erected, along with other sculptures. Lin had to negotiate with the creators of this work
and allow monumental sculptures to be produced. However, she was worried that these sculptures
would take away attention from the monument she designed, so she negotiated that the two
monuments be kept relatively separate (there was also a Women s Memorial for the work that women
conducted during the war). The meaning and appreciation for this work definitely managed to gain
many followers, as this work become more appreciated.

Aztec Civilization DBQ
For centuries we have been taught about different ancient civilizations. Civilizations that individually
give us genuine reasons and facts which we remember them by. Whether it d be for their customs or
agriculture each civilization has contributed to our technology in the way we grow our food and the
way we build. Today I would like to remember the Aztecs. They have been famous for their
agriculture, their cultivation of land and creating artificial islands in the lakes. They ve built famous
temples and pyramids and developed a form of hieroglyphic writing, a complex calendar system. This
civilization is considered to be one of the most advanced civilizations, who have contributed to our

Where the Aztecs more like us or unlike us? When we actually stop and think about Aztec family life
and our family life today we see many differences as well as similarities. Document 12 Shows us a
photograph of a Zapotec ball court. It states that playing courts have been found at the ruins of many
Mesoamerican cultures including the Aztec and the Maya. The Aztec ball game was a very important
Aztec game. This game was played with a large rubber ball. It was considered a very difficult game.
The game was not just important for entertainment, but also politics and religion. Another game was
Patolli. This was a game of chance which was played on a board. In this game the players would bet
metals, stones, plants, and at times even themselves. Like the Aztecs, today we also enjoy many
different types of board games and playing courts. We are able to see some of the world s greatest
athletes competing. It is easy to think that the Aztecs had great athletes in their era as well. Documents
13 states that Home life for the Aztec family was both well disciplined and warm. Parents had a close
relationship with children and brought them up according to a strict regime. Like today, as the children
grew up parents would give the child certain household tasks. As the child got older he was taught and
given a bigger responsibility. Parents were expected to counsel and guide them into honorable careers.

The Types Of General Data
Qualitative and Quantitative are the two types of general data. Quantitative is data the deals with
quantities, information that can be measured and put down as numbers on paper. An example
quantitative data can be someone s height, shoe size, and length of hair. Qualitative data is information
that can t be measured but still existed in a sense that we can understand. When taking the two of these
and put them into the format of research they both have different aims in trying to collect their own
types of information that can be analyzed.
Qualitative research s main aim is to provide a complete and detailed description of the topic that is

Once you have collected qualitative data you must then analysis the data and there are things that must
be considered. Analyzing the research involves having a aim that you want to uncover, using that
uncovered data to explain a phenomenon. Also with qualitative research you can use almost all of the
data that you may collect, any responses that you have put together from unstructured qualitative
methods. Another aspect that needs to be considered about qualitative research is that it doesn t have a
existing set system to identify and label the data. So a research need to use create their own methods
using content analysis. Content analysis is a system for labeling verbal or behavioral data so that the
data can be put into classification, summarization and tabulation classes. This allows the research to
analysis the data according to it s specifically class and allow them to know how to approach the data.

The Environmental Impacts Coming From Developing Mineral
The environmental impacts coming from developing mineral and energy resources from open pit
mining mainly comes from the extraction of the material once it has been deemed cost effective to
extract. What most often occurs when a site is being mined is that the material removed from the dig
site gets displaced over to the side in an area such as an open quarry mine. After the materials are
extracted the waste material is not placed back and neither is any vegetation that was once there. One
way that could help the surrounding environment would be to keep record of the amount of material
and/or vegetation removed and replace it with a similar amount once the required material has been
extracted. This would give the wildlife that had been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mining is a relatively temporary activity due to the limited operating lives of the mining sites, which
are determined by the size and quality of the ore deposit being mined. Water is used in a variety of
applications at mine sites such as the diverting of surface water and the pumping out of groundwater,
which is a concern to all living creatures. The waste water runoff in open pit mining, after rain water
that flows through the mine, can collect numerous hazardous materials and wash them into nearby
streams or rivers. Having a collection well downhill from the mining site can aid in the collection of
this waste water runoff, but would only help if the tank never reached an overflow situation. Mining
operations can work to reduce the quantity of water used and increase the quality of water available
downstream for aquatic ecosystems and other industrial and municipal water users, especially in areas
with dry climates. In Canada, mining had one of the highest water recycling rates among the industrial
divisions, and between 1996 and 2005 reduced its total water intake around 30%. This drop in the
water use happened around the same time that the value of production increased around 45%, meaning
that the water intake per dollar of their production had also declined. Water management strategies are

When the police brought Mack to the spot where they found evidence, the blood soaked dress, he saw
the bloody arc on the wall. He thought nothing about it until he goes to the shack and Papa goes on the

followed the arcs and it led them right to where the bodies were. Drawing of Jesus and Mack Jesus

Thanks for the help guys, but I think that ll be all for today. He said, and the Kikwi scurried off. He

Essay On Simulation Violence
Is Simulated Violence Causing Dangerous Behavior?
It has been argued for years, does simulated violence make people more violent? Many people have
different opinions and are pretty split on the subject. Jay Hull, who is part of Dartmouth College
claims, Play of these Mature rated, risk glorifying games was associated with subsequent increase in
sensation seeking ... hanging out with kids who smoke cigarettes ... and thinking one would like to try
drinking and smoking. (Barclay). This quote demonstrates that when people play these violent games,
they look for more rebellious activities. While our video games are growing in details and
realisticness, so is the violence. Once we find ways to simulate something, we go overboard with the
idea. Right now, video games simulating violence have been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Many who play video games will agree, it s easy to get addicted. Even more so is that you could get
emotionally connected to that game. Those games, especially violent ones, can be an outlet of
aggression for those who feel more angry. However, what happens when this outlet does not fulfil the
satisfaction of letting out aggression anymore? What if someone went out into the real world and did
the actions in their violent games? As you can see, this could totally happen and this is why games that
simulate violence could cause aggression in some people (DO VIDEO GAMES CAUSE
VIOLENCE?). This evidence shows that even if people play violent games to let their aggression out,
it may not do the job and they could go do crimes out in the real world. People who do these crimes
inspired by video games usually do this to let out their aggression or do it because they enjoy it.
Another piece of evidence is that those who are addicted to violent games have more aggression.
According to Forbes.com, The Aurora shooter, James Holmes, the Sandy Hook shooter, Adam Lanza,
they re all described as essentially being addicted to video games.

Suppose you were preparing two way tables of percentages for the following pairs of variables. How
would you run the percentages? a) Age and consumption of breakfast cereal. Here I would use cross
tabulation because there are two variables and start by listing age in the left most column. Each row

cereal consumed depending on what the question desired. b) Family income and confidence about the

questions required the surveyed person to decide on scales of 1 3 or 1 4. This will allow those taking
the survey to find where they fit, but will not determine if certain parameters are a little above the
middle or greatly above the middle like question 4a which states has increased or has decreased we

Because the survey allows for check all that apply, some data, when compared in the situations where
the variable was a part of the all that apply question, may be confusing because information may be
counted twice or more times. 6) Prepare the survey for analysis. Set up the code sheet for this study.
How will this study be set up to be tabulated by a statistical analysis program like SPSS? I would
detail the data as a cross tabulation with control and nested variables. On the left most column I would
list the various choices for question 1. Each row would represent that the user was a specifier,
reccomender, purchaser or approver for the specific classification. Then in each column after, each
question would list all of their sub questions and each of their choices, so the next column would be if

Sociology Lenski Essay
| Kirsten Stone Society Lenski Essay Professor Carver 15 March 2013 Society Lenski Essay How has
human intelligence and curiosity influenced the development of technology throughout history? From
the beginning of time, starting with the hunting and gathering societies, technology always existed.
Granted it was a lot different than the technology created in the industrial time period and light years
away from the technology we have today. It is human nature to seek out ways to do things better,
easier, faster, and that s where curiosity is tied in. According to Gerhard and Jean Lenski, societies

There is huge jump from these feudal societies to industrial societies. All of a sudden there are
assembly lines, steam engines, cotton gins, textiles, and 100,000 work units compared to 100 work
units. There were lots of jobs in factories, where people worked in unsafe conditions for little pay.
Children could work and get paid a lot less than adults. The union was developed to try get employees
the rights they deserved, stop child labor, and gain some security in their jobs. Working in factories on
an assembly line began to make workers de skilled and replaceable. Productivity flew through the roof
though with all the new machines and growing technology. In industrial societies, the five institutions
started to change more drastically than in past societies. Family life became fragmented because there
was less communication. The children went to school and the parents worked. Another thing that
changed in the family was that people lived with their nuclear, or immediate family instead of being
surrounded by family like in past societies. Education was no longer only for the elite who could
afford it. Schools were formed and there was an organized system with teachers. There was a lot of
confusion, or anomie, when it came to religion, because there was more diversity and arguments. The
Catholic religion was being challenged by science and Protestants as well. The government went

Hockey Narrative
A very important moment in my life was when I won my very first state championship for hockey. My
team and i were headed to Dallas, Texas for a tournament in the 2007 08 season. We were quite
nervous for this trip because it was an invitation only tournament. We arrived in Dallas around 9 pm
so we had to get a good nights sleep right away in order to be prepared for our game the following
day. Although waking up in the morning is hard now; waking up early then was a hoot. We loved it for
some reason. When we got to the game, we did the usual warmup: streching with the team, taping our
sticks, and getting ourselves pumped up and ready to go for the game. We went out there and won

Digital Film And Digital Technologies Essay
Regarding my photographic process I am somewhat bilingual, making use of both analog film and
digital technologies. I primarily shoot large format sheet film with a view camera because of the
amount of control the camera provides and the rich, descriptive negative that the process yields. The
image is output in the form of archival pigment prints which are then sprayed with a clear coat that
enhances the blacks of the print. The prints are produced using a drum scanner and large format
printers which provide a high degree of control, sharpness, and description that is imperative to my
work and not possible in the dark room. The photographs presented in my thesis exhibition reflect
semantic, semiotic, and philosophical interests. They also describe formal concerns contrasting
surfaces and architectural anomalies may create a kind of perceptual discrepancy upon first glance.
The pictures, however, are decidedly un mediated descriptions of real world phenomena. In this way,
the photographs demonstrate an interest in the ready made and my on going commitment to making
work in and of the world. In the removed sign works, I photographed residual adhesive attached to
walls after signs have been removed. Confined by the rectangle of the photographic frame or the sign
s outline the adhesive remnant, stripped of it s utility, may emerge as a kind of ready made painting. In
lieu of the expected directives on the surface of these deteriorating walls are accumulated,

Adonia Research Papers
Miami was hot. It was an early Sunday morning in June when I found myself in Florida, driving to the
port of Miami. Still tired from the red eye flight the day before, my excitement pushed away the
grogginess that had enveloped me since touching down. The Adonia came into view, Carnival s new
cruise ship, offering travellers the opportunity to help local communities on existing projects while on
holiday. The ship sails from Miami to the Dominican Republic where we would be joining community
projects for 3 days, before sailing back.
When I first heard of Fathom and its volunteering cruise, I was intrigued. The last few years,
volunteerism has been on the rise. Travellers want to contribute to local communities and give back to
the environment on their days off. However, not everyone is able to spend months away from home to
volunteer abroad. Fathom seemed to offer this niche group a solution: providing travellers the
opportunity to help in some way on their holiday.

Whenever a new advancement is introduced, without a doubt, an impact is being made on the society,

Although solar energy is provided for an environmental friendly option however there are studies that
reveal that it has health effect on humans as they produce toxins furthermore it has implications on our

As with any type of power plant, large solar power plants can affect the environment where they are
located. Clearing land for construction and the placement of the power plant may have long term
impacts on plant and animal life by reducing habitat areas for native plants and animals. Power plants
may require water for cleaning solar collectors or concentrators and may require water for cooling
turbine generators. Using ground water or surface water in some waterless locations with major solar
potential may affect the ecosystem. In addition, birds and insects can be killed if they fly into a
concentrated beam of sunlight created by a solar power tower. Another disadvantage is solar panels

Apple Computer redefined the portable digital music player market with its launch of the iPod digital
music player. This began in January of 2001, when it introduced its jukebox software called iTunes.
This software enabled Macintosh users to import songs from audio CD s converting them to MP3
format and storing them on the computer s hard drive. It later launched the iPod digital music player in
October of 2001. The iPod was designed to synch to songs and playlists from iTunes via a Firewire
cable connection. Once music was downloaded, the iPod provided for 10 hours of continuous play
from its rechargeable lithium polymer battery. Media is stored on iPod s internal hard disk (Day,
2005).
The iPod has evolved with subsequent product generations so that it could be used by both Windows
and Macintosh users with iTunes software being made available for each operating system. The iPod
features the company s patent pending, Click Wheel, which combines a touch sensitive wheel with
five push buttons for one handed navigation. Apple touts this feature as one of the industry s first
(Day, 2005).
In October 2005, Apple introduced the new iPod containing a 2.5 inch color screen that enables it to

The text on it, centred and in a variety of lettering, reads: The Tragedy of the Dutchesse of Malfy. As it
was Presented privatly, at the Black Friers; and publiquely at the Globe, By the Kings Majesties
Servants. The perfect and exact Coppy, with diverse things printed, that the length of the Play would
not beare in the Presentment. Written by John Webster. Hora Si quid Candidus Imperti si non his utere
mecum. London. Printed by Nicholas Okes, for John Waterson, and are to be sold at the signe of the
Crowne, in Paules Churchyard, 1623.
End of description
The Duchess of Malfi was first performed in 1613 or 1614 by the King s Men, the acting company to
which Shakespeare belonged. The play was not printed until around ten years later in 1623, in quarto,
a smaller and less expensive edition than the larger folio size used for the first edition of Shakespeare s
complete works. The title page of this edition (shown in Figure 1) tells us that the play was presented
privatly, at the Blackfriers and publicly at the Globe ; that is, the play opened at the Blackfriars, the
company s indoor theatre, and then played at the open air Globe. The title page also informs potential
readers that the text of the play is the perfect and exact Coppy, with diverse things Printed, that the
length of the Play would not beare in the Presentment ; in other words, the play text includes
numerous passages that were cut for performance. The publisher, then, appears to be

Lab Report On Microbial Unknowns Essay
Microbial Unknowns Objective: In the past couple of weeks, our class received a single broth that
contained two species of bacterium. One bacterium was gram positive and one bacterium was gram
negative. We were required to use our techniques and knowledge we learned in class to separate and
identify the two species we were given in our broths. Methodology: Day One: On the first day of our
Biochemical Unknown Lab we were given a tube that contained broth media which held two different
types of bacterium. Once we were given our broths, we had to streak two Nutrient Agar plates with the
mixed culture tube by using a loop. After I streaked my Nutrient Agar plates, I decided to perform a
gram stain. First I flamed the loop and set it aside to cool. After I flamed the loop I prepared two slides
with a drop of water in the middle. Once the loop was cool I dipped the loop into the broth and
smeared the loop onto both slides mixing the unknown bacterium with the water. I flamed my loop, set
it aside, heat fixed both slides, and let the slides air dry. Once the slide were dry I set them on two rods
above the drainage area and covered the smears with Crystal Violet. I let the Crystal Violet sit on the
smear for one minute and rinsed off the Crystal Violet. Once the Crystal Violet was rinsed I applied
Grams Iodine and let that sit for one minute. After one minute passed I rinsed the slide again and
moved on to applying the alcohol. I dripped the alcohol onto the slide until the

Black Bodice Overhead And The Moon
Stars twinkled in the black bodice overhead and the moon was nowhere in sight, yet, no one
questioned why. All lay dead in the sky while below on land, badlam occurred. It was the 18th Era on
Gaia, in the small mountain town of Nibelheim. Squall Leonhart was clutching Cloud s hand, running
towards Mt. Nibel, away from the denizens of his hometown. His feet could barely keep up with the
speed of the blonde, who was sprinting at an inhuman pace. The ascent of the mountain was too much
to handle for the mere men chasing them, while Cloud had swept Squall up and ran with the brunette
in tow. Squall knew everything was backwards and wrong. He had fallen in love with Cloud, and

He released his lover from his chains and together, they made a break for the Mako caves. Squall was
a hunter, not hunted. Everything was backwards and wrong. They reached the caves, Cloud slinging
Squall in, away from the entrance. Cloud used his strength to move heavy boulders to block the
entrance, preventing anyone from coming in. He turned back to Squall, non existent heart thawing at
the sight of his scared, anxious love. Cloud walked over, grabbing the man s face in his gloved hands
and kissing him with all the passion he had. Are you okay, my love? Cloud asked, bringing Squall in
close to him. I am now, he whispered back, laying a kiss on Cloud s chest. What will we do? I can t go
back, and when they get up here, there s no stopping them at all. I can t ask for protection from us.
While it s not forbidden for a demon to love a human, it s looked down upon. I only know of one hope
for us, but it s not pleasant. Anything, Cloud. Anything for you. I d take any pain over and over, if it
meant I can stay with you. We ll have to go to my home, Squall. We ll have to go to the Underworld.
What you call, Hell. Hell is better than Nibelheim, Squall murmured, hugging Cloud tighter and
closing his eyes. How do we get there? My dear, open your eyes, we re already there. Confused,
Squall opened his eyes expecting to still be in the cave, but instead saw he was inside of a dimly lit
castle.

The Anatomy Of Beasts
that was left in them was surely submissive. Even expecting the worst Burton couldn t believe what
Demitri had created. The anatomy of beasts and men that Demitri had spliced together shouldn t have
been biologically possible to function. But the hybrids were animated and conscious. Burton felt a
profound pity for the human victims, taken from their families, never to return; if they did, they would
never be the same. He was aware that Demitri had rounded up bastard children, searching relentlessly
for the Volpi gene within their blood, while he was part of the Ikarus Council. Were these monsters
mere children that have been turned into beasts? He wondered. The mages and what was left of the

The Dead Elders unlocked the lower cabin of the ship and rolled out catapults. They loaded the
buckets with large, leafy sacks covered in mud. Ghords! yelled Simon. They re launching Ghords.
Montague drew his sword. Burton stepped in front of him and readied his wand. He knew it would be
the last time he would hold Vandagelle. Rayne proceeded ahead, alone in the open field. From his lead
he signaled Burton and the rest to stop where they were. With his feathered wings fully extended,
Rayne raised his hands. They were wrapped tightly with black gauze from his wrists up to his
knuckles. Bolts of plasma erupted from his palms and into the sky. Then, he clinched his fist and
thrusted his hands forward, sending a transparent wave of energy into the frontline of werewolves and
mages. The shockwave hurled the monsters backwards, disabling a great number of the enemy s
frontline. A cloud of dust smothered the battlefield. Before the air could clear, the clicking of catapults
launching in the distance rang loud. The payloads flew through the smoky sky. When the sticky sacks
hit the ground they bounced and rolled, rather than crumbling like stones or exploding like barrels of
oil. The leaves of the sacks unfurled into the man eating plants known as Ghords. The Ghords had
landed far beyond where Rayne stood, but the men of the Resistance raced forward and hacked at the
snapping plants. Burton could hear Demitri

Syrian Refugees In Canada
Refugees in Canada
Justin Trudeau s liberal party made the moral and accurate decision to admit the Syrian refugees into
Canada. This decision was based on the morals to provide safety towards innocent victims of war.
This decision should be seen as morally justified by all Canadians. Although there are some practice
issues that must be resolved in order to give them an equal and equitable life in Canada.
It is only moral and just to say that all citizens of the world deserve the right to a life and equal rights,
something that no person should be the dictator of. As members of the overall global society, we must
do all that is in our power to ensure that our fellow citizens are treated, and allotted to the same way

To relocate to Vancouver is a highly impractical. Syrian refugee families who immigrated are only
given $785 as an allowance each month. this allowance is to cover the cost of living (CTVnews),
which in Vancouver will not be enough. According to Ramadan, who is of The Muslim Association of
Canada, There is nothing less than $1,400 in Vancouver to support a family of two or three
(CTVnews). Aside from this, once the funding ends, how would a Syrian be able to afford to live,
when according to a recent study (vancitybuzz) a person needs to make $20.68 an hour just to get by?
The Syrians will struggle to a great degree, it is hard enough for someone born and raised in
Vancouver to find this wage, they struggling; struggling to live affordably, to find prosperous work.
For a Syrian refugee, a life in Vancouver may be near impossible. Although, just because someone has
immigrated, and will face struggles, does not mean it to be impossible to provide them with the
necessities for equality, which is what Canada is morally trying to do. This equality won t be found in

On Seeing Larry Rivers
Presentation Essay
The question of seeing is a crucial element in the understanding of ekphrastic writing. O Hara s role as
a poet, critic and curator offers extensive insight into the necessity of seeing in the procedure of
ekphrastic writing and the relationship between painting and writing. His personal relationships with
painters such as Larry Rivers not only affect O Hara s work, but also offer a glimpse into the
endobiotic nature of ekphrasitc writing. O Hara s ekphrastic work thrives from within the artistic
realm and work of painters, gaining a foothold and moving beyond and completing the artistic idea. O
Hara s poem On Seeing Larry Rivers Washington Crossing the Delaware not only displays this
interconnection between Rivers painting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The intertextuality of Rivers and O Hara s work serves to demonstrate a translation of the process of
abstraction from the painterly realm to the written one. O Hara s work is not one of pure abstraction,
as the formality of poetry, i.e. its form, its language, is not abstract. O Hara s work itself is not
abstract; rather the process of writing is a process of abstraction. Thus O Hara embodies the text and
technique of Rivers work and abstractions. O Hara s ekphrastic poetic practice thus takes from the
painterly aesthetic and teachings to render and develop the ideas of writing in response to paintings.
Whether his work is exemplifying the possibilities of ekphrastic writing or abstract poetry, O Hara
illuminates the intricacy of the interrelationship of painting and

Constructivism Essay
Empiricists and rationalists have proposed opposing theories of the acquisition of knowledge, which
appear unable to coexist. Each theory holds its own strengths but does not demonstrate a strong
argument in itself to the questions, Is knowledge truly possible? and How is true knowledge obtained?
. Immanual Kant successfully merged the two philosophies and provided a convincing argument with
his theory of empirical relativism, or what some may call constructivism. His theory bridges the gap
between rationalism and empiricism and proves that empiricists and rationalists each present a piece
of the full puzzle. In order to truly understand Kant s epistemology, one must first review and
understand both empiricism and rationalism on an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This initiates the principle of induction, which is the assumption that the future will be like the past.
An example of this would be every time smoke is seen, one will inevitably look for the fire that is
causing the smoke. This is because based on previous experiences, it is known to be true that fire
causes smoke. One notable problem with pure empiricism is that it does rely upon reasoning. If the
concept of causality is true, there must be some form of reasoning to be able to relate one action to a
reaction. Hume s principle of induction assumes that one experience will be similar to a previous
experience under similar circumstances. It takes a measure of reasoning to assume that the previous
experience of dropping a glass would result in the same consequence when dropping a vase. To
account for this, Hume believes that reason draws connections between concepts in the mind, but it
cannot form connections between those ideas in the external world (Lawhead, 2010). Hume divided
reasoning into 2 categories: namely, relations of ideas and matters of fact. This dichotomy between
relations of ideas (which are logically necessary, but tell us nothing about the world), and matters of
fact (which tell us about the world, but which are not certain), is often called Hume s fork (Lawhead,
2011, p. 108).
Rationalism
In contrast to empiricism, rationalists claim that knowledge is gained from reasoning. It is through
reason that the

The Color Of Fireworks Produced By Incandescence And...
The students claim that, the color of fireworks produced by incandescence can be controlled by
temperature, is not completely correct. The complete correct answer is the color of fireworks produced
by incandescence and luminescence can be controlled by temperature. In the article fireworks, it
identifies that the colors the fireworks produce are, formed in one of the two ways: luminescence and
incandescence.
In the article, it explains how incandescent light is produced. Incandescent light is produced when a
substance is heated so much that it begins to glow. Heat causes the substance to become hot and glow,
initially emitting infrared, then red, orange, yellow, and white light as it becomes increasingly hotter.

Animal Cruelty Is A More Serious Problem
Why is animal cruelty not a focus? Using books, articles, and a court case, I argue that animal cruelty
is a much more serious problem than most of us realize; we need to work harder to protect animals
rights and stop their suffering. Animal cruelty is a much bigger problem than we know, but we all
should know about. Animals suffer everyday and nobody knows or cares about but they don t deserve
to suffer because of us. There are ways we can take care of this, many of us never thought about.
Focusing on animals means we will also focus on children s needs. Animals feel pain and fear, even
though they don t show it. Animal cruelty is one of the biggest problems in the world. There are ways
we can stop animal cruelty. People should feel more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
People who have fame have not focused the public s attention on animal cruelty. These people have
power, and when a person has power, people will follow and also attempt to get fame. The bad thing
the people with fame they don t know how to use it to benefit the human race and the world. They use
it just to help themselves become more known. And well the people with fame are people that don t
deserve it. Sadly it just continues to get worse. People just forget about the main problems in the
world. Lets Imagine that a young little boy right in front of you was getting beaten, sexually assaulted,
or even killed of course somebody would do something because we were raised to help one another as
a moral but why can t we do the same for animal. People have just forgotten their morals. What is the
difference between a human and any average animal not really anything. So why do we only care for
our species and not others? Animal cruelty is a much more serious problem than most of us realize; we
need to work harder to protect animals rights and stop their suffering.
Methods
I knew animal cruelty was a problem, but I wanted to know why people have done so little about it
and so little to help animals. I read plenty of articles that explain how animal cruelty is a definite
problem that needs to be taken care of but people don t see it as a problem. I read the February 23,
2013, article, Animal Abuse is a People Problem, on the official blog of Rescue Ink, because it

Theory In Nursing Practice
Application of Theory The role of theory in clinical nursing practice is to guide assessment,
interventions, and evaluation of nursing care. Theory in nursing practice provides a rationale for
collecting reliable and valid data about the health status of clients, which are essential for effective
decision making and implementation. Nursing theory also serves as a guide assessment, interventions,
and evaluation of nursing practice. Theories can address important questions for nursing units.
Theories can be grand, middle range and practice. Grand theories provide a complex and broad scope
and incorporate numerous ways of viewing concepts in nursing. Middle range nursing theories are
narrower in scope and offer an effective bridge between grand nursing theories and nursing practice.
The Ida J. Orlando s middle range nursing theory provides a nursing foundation for nursing leaders to
utilize both in the management of patient care and leadership. When applying Orlando s theory,
nursing leaders can identify perceptions, thoughts and feelings about patients care, then educate
nursing staff on meeting the patient s needs. The theory combines competent nursing practice and
customer satisfaction. Meeting the patient s needs reduces patient distress levels. Bedside nurses must
be diligent and confident of their nursing skills. When provided with great leadership, nurses will feel
more confident in their ability to provide quality patient care. The rehabilitation unit frequently

Flattery Will Get You Everywhere
Flattery Will Get You Everywhere; Even Murdered The Cask of Amontillado leaves no doubt that Poe
is the master of the psychological thriller as he allows the demented Montresor to settle his score with
Fortunato. Monstresor begins by weaving his web with false flattery and playing on the vanity of
Fortunato. Upon meeting him, he complements him on how remarkably well he is looking and then
further sets his trap by saying: ... and I was silly enough to pay the full Amontillado price without
consulting you in the matter. By this singular statement Montresor has said that he may have made a
mistake and is looking to the knowledgeable Fortunato to help him allay his fears. What better lure

  • 4. Merrill Finch Inc. Essay 8 23 MERRILL FINCH INC. RISK AND RETURN a. (1) Why is T bill s return independent of the state of the economy? Do T bill s promise a completely risk free return? Explain (2) Why are High Tech s returns expected to move with the economy, whereas, Collections are expected to move counter to the economy? 1. The 5.5% T bill return does not depend on the state of the economy because the Treasury must redeem the bills at par regardless of the state of the economy; therefore, T bills are risk free in the default risk sense because the 5.5% return will be realized in all possible economic states. Consequently, this return is composed of the real risk free rate, (i.e. 3%, plus an inflation premium, say 2.5%). As the economy is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Calculate the missing CVs and fill in the blanks on the row for CV in the table. Does the CV produce the same risk rankings as the standard deviation? Explain The coefficient of variation (CV) is a standardized measure of dispersion about the expected value; it shows the amount of risk per unit of return. CV = /. CVT bills = 0.0%/5.5% = 0.0. CVHigh Tech = 20.0%/12.4% = 1.6. CVCollections = 13.2%/1.0% = 13.2. CVU.S. Rubber = 18.8%/9.8% = 1.9. CVM = 15.2%/10.5% = 1.4. When we measure risk per unit of return, Collections, with its low expected return, becomes the most risky stock. The CV is a better measure of an asset s stand alone risk than because CV considers both the expected value and the dispersion of a distribution a security with a low expected return and a low standard deviation could have a higher chance of a loss than one with a high but a high . e. Suppose you created a two stock portfolio by investing $50,000 in High Tech and $50,000 in Collections. The changing lives is a transformational documentary about the lives of a few people on how they got out of addiction. It shows the process through their very compelling group therapy. But most importantly, what really caught me was the program for the women, that helped them with treatment when they were at the verge of losing their children. Body The group therapy was very compelling to me. I really saw that they were helping one another to get to the root of each other s problems, digging deep and peeling at the source. Some were very uncomfortable at first but once they saw that they had a lot of similarities with others, they slowly started opening up. The therapist was also going deep, but it was for a cause. In-Vitro Fertilization Is Ethical Essay The use of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, used during in vitro fertilization, for medical screening and sex pre selection is ethical so as long as it is done for the child s best interest and not for superficial desires of the parents. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To others, there are a plethora of issues in IVF that constitute it as being unethical. Opponents consider it unethical to play God and create life in an unnatural manner. They believe couples should conceive on their own without the help of a medical procedure involving embryos. This is due to their opposition to the destruction of embryos during or after the procedure. For example, embryos are frozen in large groups and are disposed of if not used or remain frozen for numerous years (Bliss, 2012). Others believe that people should simply adopt a child instead of going through the expensive and risky procedure of IVF. However, these arguments are only the tip of the iceberg of IVF being that there are several topics to be discussed. One of the most interesting topics within IVF is that of designer babies . Although predominantly permissible by law, the ethics of designer babies encompasses whether or not it is moral to use PGD for preventive medical measures, sex pre selection, and the determination of a child s various traits. • 7. An Unknown Girl by Moniza Alvi An Unknown Girl by Moniza Alvi is a free verse poem about the author s experience getting her hand hennaed in an Indian bazaar. Throughout the poem, Alvi makes use of structure techniques like end stopped lines, occasional rhymes, language, imagery, and changes in tone to explore different aspects of the concept of identity. Moniza Alvi uses the format of the poem to illustrate how the speaker s identity is split between East and West. The poem itself is centered in the middle of the page. From what the reader knows of Moniza Alvi, they can deduce that the centering of the poem is symbolic of her own division between the Pakistani and Eastern aspects of her identity, and its more pronounced English and Western aspects. The poem is evenly placed between the two sides of the page, just as the speaker s identity is divided between Indian and Pakistan, and England. Additionally, the speaker describes the setting as in an evening bazaar. The evening is a period between the day and the night, with a mix of both but not fully one or the other. It represents how the speaker herself is between the identities of the Eastern and Western cultures. At that moment, she is neither fully Eastern, nor fully Western, like the evening is not fully day, nor fully night. However, the format of the poem could also be used to underline the grander concept of globalization and westernization, and the blending of whole countries cultural identities. The centered poem could represent India, as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Henry Kissinger, a political realist, in his book Diplomacy argues that realism is the only logical answer. Darwin s survival of the fittest was a strong belief Roosevelt held and theorized all life followed the ideas of natural selection. Natural selection and survival of the fittest are theories that the strong will naturally survive by both, eliminating the weak and having greater likelyhood to pass on. With the German invasion of Luxenbourgh and Belgium directly breaking treaties previously signed stating peace Roosevelt stated to not take sides. Roosevelt s reaction was that of no concern at first, yet he was concerned once war erupted in Europe. Mainly concerned that the war would disrupt the balance of power in Europe and the German invasions would lead to German invasions pressing forward into Latin and South America. German military occupations in Latin America would pose a direct threat for the US if this were to be true. Roosevelt felt the problem would inevitably resolve itself prior to occupations in Latin America based on the principles that a balance of power still exists. A balance of power is the way the European government had operated for quite sometime now. If one nation state became all powerful and started campaigns to take over other nation states in Europe, a coalition of nation states would form to put down the aggressing nation state to insure the stability of their own nation state. • 9. High School And Social Hierarchy In high school, social hierarchy is typically determined by perceived popularity. Adolescents experience many emotional, biological and cognitive changes during this time. Teenagers struggle with their identity as social acceptance becomes an increasingly important factor in their lives. Cliques are formed in high school as a representation of a small group of people with common interests. Cliques are joined mostly by girls because it gives them a sense of security and confidence they may otherwise lack, but boys are known to join cliques as well. Cliques provide adolescents with a strong sense of self worth and can in fact help one grow as an individual, sharing common interests and values. Adolescents who appear with high social power tend to have similar qualities and group together. Those who are less popular tend to isolate themselves more while befriending others with a similarly low social status. Often times, those who are socially dominant are generally more influential, daring, physically attractive and socially appropriate. The Vietnam War Memorial is considered the best example of site specific art in the contemporary movement. 7. When Lin won the competition for the designing of the monument, a lot of sceptics managed to successfully take apart her design when she unveiled it. Some critics claimed it looked like a scar; an embarrassment for United States (as it was moving along with the hill it was created on, and therefore looked hiding), while others saw something that was trying to hide from the spotlight. Somehow, some critics saw Lin s Chinese heritage as an issue for this design this work (but how one can make a successful argument for this theory is beyond me). Nonetheless, the project continued and the monument was erected, along with other sculptures. Lin had to negotiate with the creators of this work and allow monumental sculptures to be produced. However, she was worried that these sculptures would take away attention from the monument she designed, so she negotiated that the two monuments be kept relatively separate (there was also a Women s Memorial for the work that women conducted during the war). The meaning and appreciation for this work definitely managed to gain many followers, as this work become more appreciated. 8. Elements: a. This game was played with a large rubber ball. It was considered a very difficult game. The game was not just important for entertainment, but also politics and religion. Another game was Patolli. This was a game of chance which was played on a board. In this game the players would bet metals, stones, plants, and at times even themselves. Like the Aztecs, today we also enjoy many different types of board games and playing courts. We are able to see some of the world s greatest athletes competing. It is easy to think that the Aztecs had great athletes in their era as well. Documents 13 states that Home life for the Aztec family was both well disciplined and warm. Parents had a close relationship with children and brought them up according to a strict regime. Like today, as the children grew up parents would give the child certain household tasks. As the child got older he was taught and given a bigger responsibility. Parents were expected to counsel and guide them into honorable careers. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Environmental Impacts Coming From Developing Mineral The environmental impacts coming from developing mineral and energy resources from open pit mining mainly comes from the extraction of the material once it has been deemed cost effective to extract. What most often occurs when a site is being mined is that the material removed from the dig site gets displaced over to the side in an area such as an open quarry mine. After the materials are extracted the waste material is not placed back and neither is any vegetation that was once there. One way that could help the surrounding environment would be to keep record of the amount of material and/or vegetation removed and replace it with a similar amount once the required material has been extracted. Mining is a relatively temporary activity due to the limited operating lives of the mining sites, which are determined by the size and quality of the ore deposit being mined. Water is used in a variety of applications at mine sites such as the diverting of surface water and the pumping out of groundwater, which is a concern to all living creatures. The waste water runoff in open pit mining, after rain water that flows through the mine, can collect numerous hazardous materials and wash them into nearby streams or rivers. Having a collection well downhill from the mining site can aid in the collection of this waste water runoff, but would only help if the tank never reached an overflow situation. Mining operations can work to reduce the quantity of water used and increase the quality of water available downstream for aquatic ecosystems and other industrial and municipal water users, especially in areas with dry climates. In Canada, mining had one of the highest water recycling rates among the industrial divisions, and between 1996 and 2005 reduced its total water intake around 30%. This drop in the water use happened around the same time that the value of production increased around 45%, meaning that the water intake per dollar of their production had also declined. When I first heard of Fathom and its volunteering cruise, I was intrigued. The last few years, volunteerism has been on the rise. Travellers want to contribute to local communities and give back to the environment on their days off. However, not everyone is able to spend months away from home to volunteer abroad. Fathom seemed to offer this niche group a solution: providing travellers the opportunity to help in some way on their holiday. Initially, I thought this was a great idea. But after my trip with Fathom and research into the cruising industry and volunteerism, I started to have a few reservations about this type of holiday. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As with any type of power plant, large solar power plants can affect the environment where they are located. Clearing land for construction and the placement of the power plant may have long term impacts on plant and animal life by reducing habitat areas for native plants and animals. Power plants may require water for cleaning solar collectors or concentrators and may require water for cooling turbine generators. Using ground water or surface water in some waterless locations with major solar potential may affect the ecosystem. In addition, birds and insects can be killed if they fly into a concentrated beam of sunlight created by a solar power tower. Another disadvantage is solar panels dependence on the weather. The more direct sunlight a solar panel receives the more power it can generate. When the weather becomes cloudy, the output of the panels is dramatically ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One bacterium was gram positive and one bacterium was gram negative. We were required to use our techniques and knowledge we learned in class to separate and identify the two species we were given in our broths. Methodology: Day One: On the first day of our Biochemical Unknown Lab we were given a tube that contained broth media which held two different types of bacterium. Once we were given our broths, we had to streak two Nutrient Agar plates with the mixed culture tube by using a loop. After I streaked my Nutrient Agar plates, I decided to perform a gram stain. First I flamed the loop and set it aside to cool. After I flamed the loop I prepared two slides with a drop of water in the middle. Once the loop was cool I dipped the loop into the broth and smeared the loop onto both slides mixing the unknown bacterium with the water. I flamed my loop, set it aside, heat fixed both slides, and let the slides air dry. Once the slide were dry I set them on two rods above the drainage area and covered the smears with Crystal Violet. I let the Crystal Violet sit on the smear for one minute and rinsed off the Crystal Violet. Once the Crystal Violet was rinsed I applied Grams Iodine and let that sit for one minute. After one minute passed I rinsed the slide again and moved on to applying the alcohol. I dripped the alcohol onto the slide until the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

O Hara s work itself is not abstract; rather the process of writing is a process of abstraction. Thus O Hara embodies the text and technique of Rivers work and abstractions. O Hara s ekphrastic poetic practice thus takes from the painterly aesthetic and teachings to render and develop the ideas of writing in response to paintings. Each theory holds its own strengths but does not demonstrate a strong argument in itself to the questions, Is knowledge truly possible? and How is true knowledge obtained? . Immanual Kant successfully merged the two philosophies and provided a convincing argument with his theory of empirical relativism, or what some may call constructivism. His theory bridges the gap between rationalism and empiricism and proves that empiricists and rationalists each present a piece of the full puzzle. In order to truly understand Kant s epistemology, one must first review and understand both empiricism and rationalism on an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This initiates the principle of induction, which is the assumption that the future will be like the past. An example of this would be every time smoke is seen, one will inevitably look for the fire that is causing the smoke. This is because based on previous experiences, it is known to be true that fire causes smoke. One notable problem with pure empiricism is that it does rely upon reasoning. If the concept of causality is true, there must be some form of reasoning to be able to relate one action to a reaction. Hume s principle of induction assumes that one experience will be similar to a previous experience under similar circumstances. It takes a measure of reasoning to assume that the previous experience of dropping a glass would result in the same consequence when dropping a vase. To account for this, Hume believes that reason draws connections between concepts in the mind, but it cannot form connections between those ideas in the external world (Lawhead, 2010). Hume divided reasoning into 2 categories: namely, relations of ideas and matters of fact. This dichotomy between relations of ideas (which are logically necessary, but tell us nothing about the world), and matters of fact (which tell us about the world, but which are not certain), is often called Hume s fork (Lawhead, 2011, p. 108). Theory in nursing practice provides a rationale for collecting reliable and valid data about the health status of clients, which are essential for effective decision making and implementation. Nursing theory also serves as a guide assessment, interventions, and evaluation of nursing practice. Theories can address important questions for nursing units. Theories can be grand, middle range and practice. Grand theories provide a complex and broad scope and incorporate numerous ways of viewing concepts in nursing. Middle range nursing theories are narrower in scope and offer an effective bridge between grand nursing theories and nursing practice. The Ida J. Orlando s middle range nursing theory provides a nursing foundation for nursing leaders to utilize both in the management of patient care and leadership.
