Rudy Leon presented strategies for creating a learning organization at the library. He discussed how a learning organization facilitates member learning, continuously transforms itself, and is better able to adapt to change. Key elements include systems thinking, personal mastery, shared vision, and team learning. Leon outlined a multi-pronged approach including training programs, skills inventories, mentoring, brownbag discussions, and self-guided learning modules to develop staff skills and build an organizational culture of continuous learning.

Virtual Success Equals Real Results - Training Magazine Conference 2013 Sessi...Brandon Williams
Social software can accelerate your productivity to decrease time to implement business changes, make decisions faster, and respond to market changes more quickly. How can your team do so by developing effective communities of practice and channels for social learning? We’ll discuss the five key elements of accelerating the effectiveness of a virtual team. Additionally we’ll address organizations primed to be early adopters of social software, and heavily regulated industries where adopting new social methods may seem daunting.
Learn:
How to enable social on-boarding.
The key links between push and pull information.
Tips for fostering successful mentorships and informal exchanges of information.
Intended Outcomes:
- Identify the strengths and weaknesses in leading the PALSI sessions
- Identify possible solutions to the challenges faced
- Explain how ePortfolios can help manage & present one's learning, development and accomplishments
Activities:
- Self reflection on the PALSI sessions & performance using the SWOT analysis & a simple survey
- Discussion on problems faced and possible solutions through small group discussion, i.e. think-pair-share
- Lecture on basic concepts of ePortfolios
- Demonstration of a portfolio using a celebrity as a sample
Step One is Awareness, Knowledge, and Assessment. Gain understanding of interests, abilities, skills, and values.
The National Career Development Guidelines cover three main areas – Self-knowledge, Educational and Occupational Exploration, and Career Planning. In the Holland Hexagon Model, there are six vocational personalities show the relationships between Ideas, People, Data, and Things.

Diversity Simplified believes we can positively transform organizations, culture and each other with thoughtful conversations that work towards a common ground. For their capstone presentation, this team reminded us that we never stop learning, and when placed in learning environments, we possess a diverse array of learning preferences. Our individual learning styles actually have a strong influence on the lessons we understand and retain, and also those we struggle to understand or may even choose to reject. Diversity Simplified wants to find a common ground with all of you and welcome you into a thoughtful conversation about one specific learning environment that was shared in common by this team.

Evolving libraries: What's at our core?rudibrarian
Are libraries “book warehouses” or “knowledge makerspaces”? The nature of “things” patrons create with library tools has changed in recent years as educators and libraries incorporate new technologies and new media in the learning experience and as methods of communication become increasingly (digitally) visual. However, this increasing complexity of tools has not changed the library’s central role of providing the space for information consumption, the training in support of various literacies, and support of knowledge creation in whatever form the researcher requires. The only thing that has really changed is the nature of the tools libraries support. Are we providing a broader array of tools needed to support multiple-media learning and literacy that enhances our relevancy to constituents—and to funding agencies? Join the discussion!

Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Editor's Notes
Different frames change what you see.500-600 employees, SAs, GAs, APs CivServ, FacultyWe had BethBeth was in Staff *development* -- this changed the perspective from a purely task based training department to one interested in whole person growth. Staff training had committees for Untenureds, technology, Wellness, among othersMy background. I have always been primarily an educator. My dispositions inclined me towards exploring technology for enhancing servicesI was moved in to this position because “things were coming” but the timeline was very squishy. Preparing for Unified Comm was all good, but I was responsible for otherwise filling my time Technology competencies?
That’s my background. What’s yours?
Analyzed the organizationWhat was already happening in terms of training? what strengths and weaknesses were present for moving forward? We require nothingWork in small units, not as big L Library, lack of communication, lack of morale, lack of trustHuge hugechanges in organizational shape, personnel, technology, and the hits just keep on comingSet big soft goals: help us become more flexible, mentor dispositions, do it without demanding as much time away from desks as would really be needed to do Capital T training. Learning OrganizationDon’t wait, DO! As I was trying to determine how to move us towards the decisions I would need support for in developing Tech Competencies, I decided to start addressing the needed skills
Is better situated to respond to the unexpected as well as get ahead of the curveSystems thinking – Big L library, campus as a whole, highered, etc. See the bigger pictures (Context!), make connections, prepare for what’s comingPersonal Mastery – individual skills growingMental models – Individual and organizaitonal. For successful learning environment, develop an open culture, inquiry and trust. Sometimes need to unlearn history, move away from “we’ve always done that” Develop organizational action plans (and assess!)Shared vision – cannot be instituted top down, must be grown from the inside outTeam learning – bringing it out to the whole. The theory has has some criticism in terms of actual attainability, but the challenges of changing leadership and org culture are no reason not to emply the principles
Massive changes. New TechHiring freezes (of a sort)Massive retirements (and a second round now upon us)Growth in job duties with attention to UX and digital branch services, as well as digitization and outreach
SO much to do. SO much need. Time is relativeThink in different time scales.

It’s all about building a solid foundation. And then building on that foundation, patientlyBuilding communityBuilding trustWorked from instinct and past practice* Past practice included designing affordances into technology outreach and space design. Have been working backwards via the literature to understand the theory behind what I have been creating
