What is CRDI?
CRDI stands for common rail direct injection
meaning, direct injection of fuel into cylinders
of an engine via a single, common line, called
the common rail which is connected to all the
fuel injectors.
Instead of providing separate piston pumps for
fuel supply, the common rail alone supplies
high pressure fuel to each cylinder.
Principle of CRDI
Introduced to remove the drawbacks
of carbureted and MPFI systems.
Main advantage is that even petrol
engines can be run under very lean
mixture ratio of 50:1
CIRCUIT DIAGRAM:
Components of CRDI
• High pressure fuel pump
• common fuel rail
• Injectors
• Engine control units[ECU]
Named in Different
Companies
• Mercedes Benz
• Hyundai
• Tata
• Mahindra
• BMW,volvo
• Tata
• Suzuki
• Toyota
• CDI
• CRDI
• CR4
• CRDE
• D
• DICOR
• DDIS
• D-4D
ADVANTAGES
1. Delivers 25% more power and torque
2. Higher power output even at lower rpm
3. Offers superior pickup
4. Reduced noise and vibrations
5. Lower the fuel consumption
6. Improved performance…………..bla…..bla…..bla..
Mainly in INDIA, diesel is cheaper than petrol
this fact adds to the credibility of the CRDI
system
disadvantages
1. High cost due to high pressure pump and ECU
2. Higher maintenance
3. Costly spare parts
Applications
1. Perfectly suitable for all types of road cars with diesel
engines
2. Also used in marine and locomotives
3. Mainly this system has a hand to lower the pollution
conclusion
 Cuts fuel consumption by 20%
 Doubles the torque at low engine speed
 Increases power by 20%
 Reduction the noise and vibrations
 In emission,co2 is reduced by 20% and particle
emissions by 60%
 Finally, CRDI principle not only lowers fuel consumption
and also emissions possible; also provide more comfort
and is quieter than modern pre-combustion engines
