1. Cover Letter
My name is Daniel Odendaal. I’m 27 and from South Africa. I moved to
London to chase my dream of working in the music industry and refuse to
give up until I achieve this goal.
Music is my biggest passion. I have a background in the music business, with
intern experience from Sony Music Entertainment & Universal Music
Publishing.
I also have a firm grasp of music industry contracts and work experience in
Music Marketing; primarily focused on music plugging duties, social media
posting and assisting label managers with album campaigns.
My main duties at Sony Music included phoning radio stations as well as
securing airplay for our artists.
I’d have to build relationships with music compilers and persuade them to
secure first time airplay. I’d also secure radio interviews for our artists.
Upon arriving in London I applied for over 300 jobs, primarily music based,
sadly I have not been successful as yet. That does not deter me and I do not
give up easily. I’ve applied for countless UK internships with all 3 majors and
have even vouched for free work experience to try and get ahead.
I currently work as a Street Team Member, administering Flyers at various
02 Academy venues across London. It might not be the best pay, but the
notion of working for such iconic venues; as well as the contacts I gain, make
it that much more rewarding.
Might I ad that, my positive attitude keeps me going; as well as my
determination to succeed and better myself.
My focus right now is to gain International Experience as there are little to no
jobs in South Africa and I’m trying to get ahead in my profession.
I am a team player, with a winning personality, great sense of humor and
passion for the music industry. I aim to give nothing but my best to your
organization and even have numerous references from the Industry, able to
vouch for my hard work and determination.
I don’t know where life will take me but I believe in the power of an
