4. 2 Types of Nouns: Proper and Common
1. Proper nouns: nouns that refer to a specific person,
place, or thing by name. Proper nouns are always
capitalized.
Example: She lives in Winnipeg.
2. Common nouns: nouns for general things.
Example: She lives in a city.

Some nouns can be both countable and uncountable.
āThere are nouns that can be both countable and uncountable. Chicken is
uncountable if itās a food, but countable if itās the animal. Coffee is
uncountable, but people say theyāve had three coffees; meaning 3 cups of
coffee, which are countable.
The same happens with beer (the liquid) and beers (bottles or cans).

Articles are the small words we use before nouns.
Articles are types of adjectives.

Use āaā with countable nouns that begin with a consonant sound like a book,
a car, or a house.
Use "an" with countable nouns that begin with a vowel sound like an orange,
an ocean, or an eternity.
Use "some" with countable and uncountable nouns like some milk, some
time, or some apples in positive sentences.

No article is needed before:
1. a general, plural, countable noun (dogs/cars/books).
Example: Our family likes dogs.
2. a general, non-countable noun
Example: He drinks coffee every day.
