Corruption takes many forms, including bribery of officials, insider trading, and nepotism, and has serious negative effects. It is linked to poverty, as poorer countries tend to be more corrupt. Corruption undermines the rule of law, weakens economic growth, and is a major obstacle for development in three quarters of countries worldwide. While no country is corruption-free, some have been more successful at controlling it through institutional mechanisms.
