To Kill A Mockingbird Literary Analysis Essay
Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird demonstrates organic unity through the use of literary tools to
create, maintain, and amplify the central theme. Lee constructs and develops the theme of social
inequality by employing dialogue, irony, and an extended metaphor. Through dialogue, the
townspeople show contempt for blacks, viewing them and anyone who treats them as equals as
inferior. This is evident in the analysis of the conversations of Bob Ewell, Mrs. Dubose, and
Francis Hancock where they refer to black peopleas uncivilized savages. Not only does Bob Ewell,
contribute to the theme through his dialogue, but his full name of Robert E. Lee Ewell provokes
irony that clarifies the racist undertones of the novel. Moreover, irony functions... Show more

Not only do the townspeople treat blacks as inferior but they also dislike those who defend
blacks. As a result, when Atticus receives Tom Robinson s case and decides to defend Tom to
the best of his abilities, the community curses Atticus. Offended by the fact that Atticus plans to
defend Tom, Miss Stephanie calls him a nigger lovin bastard (Lee 248). Likewise, Mrs. Dubose
says Atticus is no better than the niggers and trash he works for (Lee 117). Even Atticus family
disapproves of his defense of Tom Robinson; his great nephew Francis tells Scout that Atticus is a
nigger lover and he s ruinin the family (Lee 94). As evident through the mockery of blacks and
those who defend them, the white citizens feel superior to blacks; this idea of white supremacy
reaffirms the theme of social inequality.
Through use of irony, Lee parallels the unjust treatment of blacks during the 1930s to that of the
American Civil War. For instance, during the trial of Tom Robinson, Bob Ewell proudly responds
to his full name, Robert E. Lee Ewell. The irony lies within the historical context as Robert E. Lee,
a Confederate general during the American Civil War, fought for the continuation of slavery. By
juxtaposing Bob Ewell with Robert E. Lee, Harper Lee underscores the blatant racism of Bob Ewell.
Furthermore, Mr. Dolphus Raymond s actions exposes the bigotry of the white townspeople
through the irony of his situation.

Walter Disney Research Paper
What if you became a millionaire for something that you loved to do? From noiseless films, to
colorless productions, all it took was one individual to create a more modern stance of
entertainment. Films as we know, on an everyday basis have been changed to match the way that
society views things. His story was created when one man put his mind and artistic abilities to the
test. Lots of effort was required to make his dreams come true, but there wasn t anything that could
remove him off the path of success. Walter Elias Disney was born in Chicago, Illinois on
December 5, 1901. Growing up Walter had four siblings. Three brothers in which names were
Herbert, Raymond, and Roy. The name of his fourth sibling was Ruth, the youngest, only female of
the clan. Elias and Flora Disney were the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the end of World War в…. His Discharge was in August 1919. After the war, he returned to the
United States and moved to Kansas City. After moving, his first job was an apprentice. The
name of the company he worked for was Pesmen Rubin Commercial Art Studio. Shortly after he
began, he met Ubbe Iwerks which found Disney as a young, bold, entrepreneur ready to take on
the new world of the entertainment industry. After the holidays Ubbe and Walter both got laid off
due to lack of work. Kansas City Film Ad Company hired both men, which led Disney to the
discovery of celluloid. This discovery inspired Walter to create his own experimental films. After
two failed attempts at an independent studio, he was encouraged by his brother Roy and his uncle

A Brotherhood That Cannot Be Broken The flag rising on Iwo Jima, a very popular, famous, and
historic photo almost anyone can recognize at any given time. I think that this photo became so
popular and considered historic because it has been a symbol of our military s patriotism and
valor America s strength, honor, and brotherhood. A strength that cannot be shaken, honor that
cannot be abjured, and a brotherhood that cannot be broken. The battle for Iwo Jima was a
bloody battle against the Japanese forces. The island took the heaviest and longest bombardment
compared to any battles in the Pacific during the war ( Battle for Iwo Jima, 1945 , 1960). The
battle for Iwo Jima started in June of 1944 but the invasion of the island didn t start until February

the EIB and compete with me but I was able to choose whom I wanted to be with in this journey on

King Livia Research Paper
Livia s devotion to being involved with the state did not stop with her husband s policies. Two
generations later, with Tiberius Claudius Nero Germanicus, her influence is seen again. Claudius
lived with Livia for a long time, during which he developed an immense amount of respect for her.
Although he could be considered the black sheep of the family, when Claudius became emperor,
he was successful in making Britain a province and extending the Roman rule to Northern Africa.
The people wanted to celebrate Claudius, but he refused almost all praise. In fact, he directed all
praise towards Livia instead. His grandmother Livia he not only honoured with equestrian contests
but also deified; and he set up a statue to her in the temple of Augustus, charging the Vestal Virgins
with the duty of offering the proper sacrifices, and he ordered that women should use her name in
taking oaths (Dio Cassius Roman History Book 60). Claudius had so much admiration for her that
he wanted her name to be spoken even when citizens were taking oaths. Livia was an example for
women to follow in that if they are ineligible or unable to shape western civilization themselves,
they can shape it with their connections to powerful men. Livia... Show more content on

A Look at Ethical Perspectives Essay example
A Look at Ethical Perspectives While it would be nice to think that it is easy to make decisions
and all come to the same conclusion, this is not always the case. Unfortunately, even regarding
ethical decisions where you may think a right and wrong way exist may not be easy to determine.
Since everyone has different backgrounds and therefore, different perspectives, we may not agree
on what the best course of action is to take in a difficult decision. While I believe that character is
the most important, someone else may think that as long as the majority is satisfied that their
decision is best. An exercise created by the Williams Institute for Ethicsand Management looks at
four different perspectives which are referred to using... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately the boss found someone else to lie to the customer, but when he needed to find
someone to trust, he would go to Matt. Not every decision is this easy to make, but through study
and close attention to mistakes made by myself and others, I am able to increase the wisdom
needed to give a virtuous answer.
Obligation
The names of the perspectives speak mostly for themselves. Obligation is making sure that the
decision that is made is fair to all and that everyone is treated as equals (Weiss, 2006). The thought
is that we should have a duty to all humanity. This however, presents a challenge when attempting
to make a prompt decision and having to analyze the consequences that it will have on everyone.
When choices are made from this perspective, an individual may not use his or her first thought of
what is right or wrong, but instead what they think the majority of people would identify as being
right. Generally this would be very similar to the character perspective as considering the effect
on society as a whole would be an honest choice; however, this may not always be the case. When
I consider integrity, I think of Godly values which are occasionally distorted by society due to man
believing that he knows what is best.
Results
In most business decisions, organizations have to determine if the ends justify the means. This is
the correct method most of the time, but may not be acceptable in all ethical decisions. However,
someone who has this

Criminological Theory Of Edwin Sutherland s Differential...
I.Introduction: Differential Association Theory is a criminological theory devised by Edwin
Sutherland asserting that criminal behavior is behavior learned through association with others
who communicate their values and attitudes (Walsh, 559).
Summary:
We live in a world that is full of choices and some individuals believe we have a choice that is made
by ourselves regardless of any influences from outside parties. We have the authority to
determine what is right or wrong for our own lives and we should be held accountable for those
decisions. However, one would believe it s safe to say we live in a world that approaches life with a
black or white perception. Meaning decisions in life are either morally right or morally wrong and

The world is full of self centered and self absorbed individuals. We are in a digital world where
selfies are more common than group photos and working alone for numerous hours are the latest
trend. We are forbidden to ask for assistance from others because one should be able to provide for
themselves. Walters lifestyle theory can be applied to our society today, in terms of crimeisn t a
behavior one choices. Society has a pattern that can alter the course of someone s life and decisions
leading them down a path of criminal history full of irresponsible, impulsive and self indulgent
behavior.
II.Differential Association Theory Differential Association Theory was created by Edwin
Sutherland, whose primary goal was to create a theory that could explain both individual
criminality and collect crime rates (Walsh, 186). For crime to occur conditions must be
available, if not present crime does not exist (Walsh, 186). In reading 13, it shows that
individuals exposed to criminal activity are more likely to become involved in criminal acts.
Many empirical tests have relied on the number of criminal associates as evidence of interaction
with criminal members within an individual s primary group (Walsh, 217). The reading on page
141 supports Sutherland s idea that behavior is learned. Kody Scott was recently a graduate from
an elementary school in Los Angeles whose sole purpose in life was to become a part of a gang
known as Eight Trey Crips. Many would argue

Taming Of The Shrew And 10 Things I Hate About You Analysis
Have you ever had a relationship that has moved on because of change? Maybe he or she was too
different from when things started? The play Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare and the
movie 10 Things I Hate About You explore how the relationship between Katherine and Petruchio
have evolved throughout cultural differences. Whether showing this through Petruchio, Katherine,
and how their relationship overall maneuver they act differently or stay the same because of
cultural influence. This dictates their views and behaviors in their relationship. Petruchio and
Katherine certainly have many differences from 16th century Italy to early 2000s United States. Let
s explore these differences now, starting with Petruchio.
If you have seen 10 Things I Hate About You, you would definitely remember the rebellious and
sexy Patrick. Whether that be his black combat boots, long hair and rugged appearance, or the fact
that he ate a live duck, this certainly shows. On the other hand, if you have read the play Taming of
the Shrew you would see Petruchio as a visitor to Padua. Petruchio states his intentions in the city

At the conclusion of Taming of the Shrew Katherine is a different person entirely and is tamed
by Petruchio. When asked by Petruchio to give a speech to the less loving wives, she lectures,
And place your hands below your husband s foot; In token of which duty, if he please, My hand
is ready, may it do him ease. (Act 5 Sc. 2 193 195) This explains that Katherine is telling the other
ladies to do whatever their husbands command and that you should do anything for him. This is
quite a contrast to the beginning of both the play and movie where both Katherine s are rebels and
are very independent. Together, though, Katherine and Petruchio s relationship also has

This Boy s Life Analysis
In the memoir This Boy s Life the readers are introduced to Jack, a troubled boy who struggles
through his adolescence. Jack s boyhood was plagued with a divorce, moving, hostile
environments, and unknown identity. To create a foundation, and image for himself Jack began
to create a new life, in his mind. This concept was shown throughout the whole memoir. For
example, in this quotation, And on the boy who lived in their letters, the splendid phantom who
carried all my hopes, it seemed to me I saw, at last , my own face. (214). Imagination was Jack
main source of escape from what he truly was. Jack pictured himself as one of the elite, a football

In our culture today we are taught to be yourself, and never lie. Which is why I surprised and
intrigued by this quote, and everything that related to it. I wanted to understand Jack s life,
because I have never experienced anything close to his life. Thus bringing me to how this quote
related to the meaning as a memoir as a whole. Imagination brought Jack into a wonderful life,
yet it was fake. This allowing him to think more highly of himself to get past Dwight s and other
people s outlooks on him. However, Jack s life never turley became better. He went to the Hill
school but got expelled, and Dwight s anger never left Jack, and clouded the little bit of happiness
that Jack had gained in Chinook. All of this shows that imagination never truly makes things better,
but provides an allusion. Through Jack it was learned that only working hard, and keeping out of
trouble brings honest good fortune. Which was expressed throughout the memoir to allow the
readers to see the good and bad that came from Jack s life. Overall, the quotation helped me
understand Jack s use of imagination, and even the true meaning of the memoir as a

Many times a student will memorize what they need to know on the test. They will not truly
memorize the material because they will soon forget it after the test. Since test taking is generally
the only way that people are evaluated upon, this leads to society having more smart kids than
intelligent ones. Kids will often get into college because they are smart, but many times they can t
solve a complex problem because they lack that intellect to do so. There are many intelligent
people who never go to college because they have an idea that they need to get out to the world.
This is possibly why many inventors and successful college dropouts are innovative individuals
that start a business to help them gain wealth. There are far more smart people than there are
intelligent ones. Even though being smart is different from being intelligent, individuals can be
both smart and intelligent. Individuals can also be neither smart nor intelligent. There are people
like Dr. Ben Carson and Karl Marx who are both smart and intelligent. There are also people who

in the ghettos of Detroit and through books he was able to gain much knowledge and do well in

Sources Of Ocean Pollution
Our oceans have been pristine for millions of years. Only recently have our oceans been affected
by human s presence on earth. Beach s that had once been filled with life are now covered in
garbage from many different countries. The garbage patch in the northern pacific ocean is a great
example to put the extent of this problem in perspective. This garbage patch, formed by circular
wind patterns called gyres, has been described by many as a floating island of trash. Some of the
main sources of ocean pollutionare oil, plastic and agricultural waste and it is estimated that 80%
of this pollution originates from land. As technology progresses worldwide, we must work
together to formulate a plan to clean up our oceans as well as prevent contaminates from reaching
our waterways in future years. It has been estimated that plastics and discarded fishing gear, such
as monofilament line and discarded nets, kill one million seabirds and 150,000 marine mammals
each year (Ambrose). Trade winds and gyres in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans can carry trash
thousands of miles. When the currents caused by these winds intersect with land, the garbage is
deposited on the shores of continents and many islands off the coast. Another major source of
marine pollutionis pollution via petroleum products and oil spills. An oil spill large enough can
completely destroy an environment for tens of thousands of marine animals. In the period from
2000 to 2008, an average of 24 tons (21.8 metric

Doublespeak In T. Lutz s The World Of Double Speak
Orwell believes that question begging is a pervasive poison in political language. This can be
seen in many politicians arguing for a point, in which they assume that their point is true and
attempt to use their assumptions as proof that their assumption is true. It is a backwards type of
circular thinking that values blind acceptance over truth. Political language especially suffers
from these bad habits, because it is the type of language that deals most with the sending of
important messages to entire societies. People in politics rely so heavily on these bad habits
because they know it is falsely reassuring to the public, comfortable, and easy to fall back on. They
rarely construct a message that is honest, because they are afraid of the... Show more content on

If there was another form of the English language that worked as effectively and as easily as
doublespeak, then maybe the official language of public discourse would change. Until then,
however, doublespeak is here to stay, in all of its meticulous, manipulative glory. I would
propose that doublespeak is even more prevalent today than it was in 1990. With the widespread
popularity of the internet comes even more ways for people to communicate, and more
communication just increases the likelihood of doublespeak. Nowadays, corporations are
expected to be present on the web, and this puts pressure on them to respond to issues that go
viral. It s at that point when the company s PR person will make a doublespeak statement
regarding the issue, trying to put out as many fires as possible by avoiding responsibility and
manipulating the negatives into positives. If a response is not satisfactory, the people of the
internet can respond negatively, and a cyber group of angry people on the internet can do a lot
more damage to a company s reputation than a physical group of angry people protesting in the
90s. This sounds like it would decrease the use of doublespeak, but I personally think that it would
just make the companies craft their doublespeak more cautiously, finding a happy medium between
angry customer, and obliviously loyal

The operation brought to the battlefield a new era of militarytechnology. Majority of the battles

Industry 4.0 and Manufacturing Sector Overview
Manufacturing Sector is facing huge challenges. As customers demands are increasing for
customized products based on individual requirements, new products have to make their way to
market faster and faster and with more than one option. At the same time, more goods must be
manufactured with steadily dwindling resources, as efficiently and ecologically as possible. In
order to fulfil the customer s requirements, research and industry are counting on flexible,

Stereotypes Of The Older Generation
I think that sometimes the older generation will stereotypically think that the younger generation is
lazy, irresponsible, ungrateful and that they have no respect for others. The older generation may
feel that the younger generation has no moral values, that they are spoiled, and that they think
they know it all. The younger generation may feel that the older generation is inflexible, that they
are set in their ways, and that they are technologically unskilled. I think that these commonly
formed opinions about different generations can create views that divide us. I feel that each
generation could learn from the other if they are open and willing to do so. The only time I can

I feel that this is unfortunate because the differences that we have can be truly beneficial in
strengthening a company where different perspectives can help in being able to work more
creatively and productively together. We should try to stop ourselves when we first meet or see
someone from passing any judgment on them based on a stereotype that we may have because
in actuality we don t know who they are or what their strengths, thoughts, abilities, and ethics
are. I think that we need to try to recognize any stereotypes that we may personally each have and
then make a conscious decision to try to stop ourselves from thinking of others in that way. I
don t feel that we must agree with everyone else s beliefs or choices, but I think if we can put
aside our biases and acknowledge and appreciate all of the differences that are found within our

My Reaction To Noel Ashfall Summary
My reaction to the noel Ashfall by Mike Mullin was filled with exhilaration because the book

of all the cliff hangers.
The reason I chose this novel is because it caught my attention, and seemed interesting. Looking

The organization of this novel is in chronological order because Alex tells about what he does, and
when he does it on his journey to find his family.
One symbol that caught my eye in the book was ash because even after the eruption they kept using
the word ash. Ash means sorrow of the world, which is how Alex describes his life after the

The Life And Accomplishments Of Frederick Douglass
When speaking of how African Americans evolved from being slaves to becoming free, one must
not fail to mention the life and accomplishments of Frederick Douglass. The actions taken by
Frederick Douglas and others that pave the way were perceived as huge achievements then and
now. Negros, as they were called in the 17th and 18th century where considered nothing more than
slaves. Being a slave did not grant human rights to anything at any time or any place. But Frederick
Douglass had different plans other than only being a slave. Overcoming slaverywould become a life
long journey with the thoughts of becoming a free man the only possible option. Frederick
Douglass was born in slavery as Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey in Talbot County,
Maryland. By only knowing his mother s name and not knowing his date of birth or who his
father was, this was normal for many Negros. This hurdle was only a few of many challenges that
were not only faced by Frederick Douglas but also by many other slave s at this time. Growing up,
Frederick Douglass was a very mild mannered child. He was originally a house Negro who learned
very quickly what roles slaves played in their society. Slaves were not privileged to anything,
they were not privileged to learn to read, write or know their history, which crippled slaves into
centuries of oppression. But early in his life, Frederick Douglass knew this was not going to be his
way of living.

Separate Muslims from State Outline
Throughout the depths of recorded history Muslims have constantly committed mass murders upon
innocent people in the name of Islam. According to long established conventional Islamic views,
Muhammad s revelations start the Qur an off in 610. Dating back to as early as 627, the Prophet
Muhammad s followers have been recorded of murdering large numbers of non believers and even
believers for that matter (Ye or, 1985). While researching wars declared in the name of Islam, the
words convert or die (more often than not they surfaced together making the claim convert or
die ) surfaced exceedingly often. Despite the common belief imprinted into the minds of nearly
every United States citizen/civilian whom attended or is attending public school with the U.S.,

Go Tell It On The Mountain
Go Tell It on the Mountain is a story than many African Americans can relate too. Author James
Baldwin paints a picture of what the post Civil War era was for former slaves and their families.
Many African Americans moved north in areas such as Harlem to find better job opportunities and
to escape the harsh treatment of the Jim Crow laws in the South. As black families were moving to
the North, many saw this as an opportunity to start over. It was a sentiment of being reborn again.
That is why I believe the Pentecostal church was very attractive to many African Americans. The
Pentecostal church gave the African Americancommunity a sense of relief. It was an outlet from
the harsh and cruel treatment that was distributed on a daily basis. The Pentecostal gave the
black community hope just like how Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. There is a parallel to the
Pentecost that the church would lead people to a better life and after their time on Earth is over.
One of the main themes discussed in the book is silence. Silence was mainly discussed in the
section of Gabriel s Prayer . Gabriel is a preacher in the novel. He was once a very ambitious and
wild who felt like he was on top of the world and nothing could stop him. In this part of the book,
his sister, Florence is crying at the altar. This gave him a flashback to when he was crying on a tree
he often sees on a daily basis. He was waiting for a sign from God to cleanse him of all his sinbut

Chapter 1: Introduction
This is Arizona, a state that is well known for its desert Basin and Range region. Its state
nicknames are The Grand Canyon Region, The Copper State, The Valentine State, and The Apache

copper was in abundance, Arizona s date of statehood was February 14(Valentine s Day), 1912 and
the Apache Indians inhabited Arizona at the time. These nicknames were chosen on 1959. Its state

Unusual Animal Friendships
Have you ever thought about the relationships between animals? Two very different kinds of
animals can get a very strong bond between each other. They will start to care for each other
even if they are not the same species. Like a dog taking care of a littler of kittens because the
kittens have no mother. They will even feed offspring that are not even there own. I do believe that
a dogthat just had puppies will take care of a litter of cats.
Animals will care for one another. Like the lions in the passage Animal roles and relationship.
The lions look out for the little cubs while the other ones go hunt and get food for them to eat. I
know this because in passage one it says, In a pride of lions lionesses are the hunters while the
males are the protectors. Also like Bea the giraffe and Wilma the ostrich. They both have a lot of
land to walk around but they are always together. Bea cleans Wilma with her long tongue an
Wilma likes to cuddle close to her side. I know this because in the second passage Unusual
Animal Friendships it says , Bea likes to clean Wilma with her long tongue and Wilma likes to
cuddle close to her friend. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

I know this because in the text it says, He was moved to an endangered wildlife refuge in South
Carolina where doctors feared he would not live long. The text also said, Thanks to Roscoe for
his help Suryia always shares his snacks with his best friend. Another example is how a crab feeds
the sea anemone. I know this because in the text it sates, Sea anemones also get free food by eating
the leftovers from hermit crab

Shadow Essay
For this assignment I chose to shadow my mother, Gidget Wray. Gidget is the owner of Hip Hip
HooWray Events and Designs. This business consists of a variety of wood designs which are
sketched and painted to the customers satisfaction. A typical day in the studio begins with
scheduled and unscheduled events, such as private parties, Open Studio, and offsite events.
Choosing to shadowmy mother was an easy decision because of how dedicated she is to her
business. During my time shadowing her, I was able to evaluate how she handles difficult situations
in the studio and works through them to ensure the studio will run smoothly throughout the day. A
typical day at the studio runs on a tight and organized schedule. From when the doors open to...

There are rarely any complications at the studio because she is always there, but this results in
the loss of family time. There have been Saturday s when I have had a softball tournament and
my Mother was not able to go, because the studio was going to be busy and she had to be there
for the day to run on schedule. Running the studio comes with many complications. On a daily
basis there are problems to be solved. How Gidget handles these problems are very impressive.
In the end the customer is always pleased. When a customer is unhappy, for me it would very
hard to figure out a way to please them and not have a problem with the studio still running on
schedule, but for my Mother it is no problem. I think it is easy for my Mother to please a
customer in a tough situation because she has always told me It is never too late to be nice to
someone. This quote to me means that no matter how upset that customer is you can always figure
out a way to please them. My experience really helped me understand the quote from Atticus Finch
You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view until you
climb into his skin and walk around in it. When I first read the quote I thought I understood it, but
after spending this time with her discussing and evaluating the way she thinks and works, it
dawned on me how hard it was the be not only a business owner, but a Mother at the same time.

Eisenhower Intro Paragraph
Intro Paragraph Dwight David Eisenhower had an interesting early life. He was born on October
14, 1890. Dwight was born in Denison, Texas, however, he never considered Denison his
hometown (Mara 7). Eisenhower was the third child of seven children of Ida Elizabeth Stover
Eisenhower and David Jacob Eisenhower ( Dwight D. Eisenhower). One of Dwight s younger
brothers, Paul, was born in 1894, but died in 1896 due to scarlet fever. In the early 1890s the
Eisenhower family moved to Abilene, Kansas. His father was a mechanical engineer that repaired
equipment in a creamery (Brown 13, 15). Dwight s father was also strict. Dwight was always a

not have to worry about money as much. Eisenhower grew up in a non fighting home.
Eisenhower was fully involved in sports, but Truman was restricted because of his glasses.
Eisenhower was not sure of his religion, but Truman was a definite Baptist. Introduction
Sentence (Eisenhower s Military Career) Dwight Eisenhower started his military career by
applying to West Point, New York or Annapolis, Maryland. Annapolis worked with navy training
and West Point was for the army. Eisenhower wanted to go there because the tuition was free. He
ended up going to West Point. He traveled to there in June of 1911. His parents, mostly his
mother, disapproved of going to an army school, but they allowed him to go. The newcomers to
the school were called plebes and for the first few weeks they were ridiculed by the older students.
Eisenhower was tough and went through this with no problem. Eisenhower gained a reputation as
a troublemaker, but nothing big. Ike tried to play sports but he did not make the baseball team,
which was his favorite sport, but he made the football team. A football injury ruined a future in
athletics. Dwight Eisenhower graduated from West point in 1915 with a ranking of 61 out of 164

What Is The Beauty Of The Beast Vs Beauty And The Beast
The story of a girl who is held hostage by a frightening beast and then ends up falling in love with
him is a tale as old as time. The live action version of the 1991 animated classic, Beauty and the
Beast, is more than that though. The story portrayed in the live action film follows that of the
animated version almost exactly. This musical romantic fantasy film, directed by Bill Condon,
features an outstanding cast, which includes Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, and Josh
Gad, among others. The motion picture is able to bring the animated movie to life even more so
than one could imagine. Beauty and the Beast is a story about a pampered prince (played by Dan
Stevens) who, because of his arrogance, is cursed and thus gets turned into a hideous beast. He can
only be returned to his human form if someone is able to love him, and, in turn, he is able to learn
to love. Thanks to the actual human actors in the live action film, the producers are able to portray
this essential piece of the story well. The other main character, Belle (played by Emma Watson), is
a brainy, beautiful, and light hearted girl. She voluntarily becomes the Beast s prisoner after she
offers herself in exchange for her father (he accidently wanders to the Beast s castle during a cold
winter night, and is taken prisoner). As time passes, Belle and the Beast become close.
Unfortunately, during this time, the town also learns the Beast lives on the outskirts of their
village, and they are frightened,

The Measurement of Pendulum s Harmonic Motion Lab #2
Abstract
The specific purpose of this experiment was to verify three physical concepts based on Newton s
Laws. These concepts are vector addition, force as a vector, and the law of equilibrium. The
densities of two different objects were compared by measuring their masses and volumes. In this
experiment, two different sets of methods of volume measurement were compared to the density
computation of an object bearing a standard shape. In addition, the density computation was
used to determine the buoyant force acting on different objects. At this point, it was observed
that an object maintains a constant velocity if all the external forces cancel out one another (no
net force results from the unbalanced forces acting on an object). In this case, a force table was
used to study Newton s First Law of Motion. These forces were represented as F1, F2, and F3.
Analysis of results obtained from the experiment proved that the value of F3 determined through
calculations was less than the measured value of F3. In Trial#1, for example, the calculated
value of F3 was 211.59g @ 2430 while the measured value of F3 was 215g @2430, translating to
a % difference of 0.5g @20. Although the primary objectives of the lab were achieved, errors (in
particular, static friction) occurred during the experiment. These errors were observed

The Vampires Are Now A Metaphor Of Human Beings
As one of the most attractive and enduring figures in the Gothic literature, the vampires have
moved from being a peripheral element with the genre to a place near the center and are capable
of generating its own massive tradition now. In the recent literary history, they have already been
adapted to play a role of a rebel against the moral, social, religious, and even sexual taboos. Put
simply, the vampires are now a metaphor of human beings in the modern society and life.
With the publication and popularity of The Vampire Chronicles, especially that of Interview with
the Vampire, Anne Rice innovates the Gothic tradition in the western literature successfully, for
comparatively speaking, the vampires in her novels are more sympathetic and humanized than the
terrible and emotionless monsters before. As it is said by both Jan Gordon and Veronica
Hollinger, the vampires also stand for some border anxieties, since they penetrate boundaries by
their own special and complicated nature, that is to say, between life and death, between love and
fear, between power and persecution. Furthermore, sensitive to the social issues very much, Anne
Rice expresses the sentimental feelings of the vampires in great detail and by exquisite words and
describes vividly the existing state of the outsiders of the modern times as well. Therefore, in the
case of Interview with the Vampire, there is a quite highly rational and philosophical probe into the
life and the existence of human beings.

when he was aged 23. He started off on a high and impressed all the big authorities of the game

side for about 4 years and 5 months now and has been very successful with leading his team
throughout the good and difficult times. He has proven to be one of the most successful captains
Australia has ever had. I strongly believe that he should not be retiring from international cricket.

Coca Cola And Its Impact On Society
Coca Cola a leading manufacturer, distributor and marketer of soft drink products. Coca Cola
was not always the sugary syrup soft drink most people know today. As a matter of fact, before
1886 Coca Cola was made with alcohol and cocaine. Concocted by Dr. John Pemberton a
pharmacist in Atlanta Georgia Coca Cola was originally named Pemberton s French Wine Coca.
Dr. Pemberton marketed the drink as a cure all for mental and physical disorders and was sold
from a soda fountain at his local drug store. A step ahead of prohibition, Dr. Pemberton replace
the wine in his formula with a sugary syrup. The cocaine portion of Coca Cola was removed
before 1914 when cocaine was deemed illegal in the United States of America. Coca Cola as we
know today still contains coca but the narcotic portion of cocaine, it is removed. Today, Coca
Cola has expanded to over 200+ countries. From concerts to sport venues to local restaurants you
are more than likely to come across a Coca Cola product, Coca Cola has had such an impact on
society that it is given credit for how we portray Santa Clause today. Other credits should also be
given to Coca Cola like an increase in diabetes and other diseases. Coca Cola has been known to
cause several health issues such as diabetes, liver problems and heart disease. There has been
scientific research that has proven how Coca Cola effects the human body negatively. For example,
a study shows exactly what happens to the human body after an hour of drinking coke.

going to be this way for the next however many years, but you know what it does... and it sucks.
Now most the time when I feel shitty like this, it usually does just end with me realizing I m

Essay On Infective Endocarditis
National statistics of maintaining a lifestyle of poor diet, little exercise, and frequent drug use
are steadily climbing. Increases in lipid and cholesterol intake, as well as decreases in regular
physical activity is causing an increase in obesity and disease with widely known effects. 1 These
behaviors are deeply rooted in the cause of heartdiseases. It has been shown through animal testing
that a high lipid, calcium, and carbohydrate increases the incidence of aortic valvehardening,
thickening, and lipidemic lesion formation. 2 Obesity is alarmingly prevalent in children at or
below the age of five. In fact, the World Health Organization (WHO) approximates that 18 million

Infective endocarditis is an infection of microorganisms, whether it be bacterial or viral, which
form colonies within the endothelial lining of the heart tissue. This initiates an immune response
that causes the infected sites to grow. Figure 1 8 shows vegetations on the aortic valve which
prevent it from functioning properly. Without the ability to fully seal during diastole, blood is
pulled back through the aortic valve from the aorta. This disrupts the pressure in the left ventricle
in such a way that creates unnecessary stress on the muscle. Infective endocarditis that is present on
the right side of the heart (including the aortic valve) is of highest incidence within the population
of recreational intravenous drug users at 46% 78% of reported cases. 9 The risk of infective
endocarditis causing vegetation on and around the aortic valve increases after valve replacement
surgery. A study done in Australia observed 2443 aortic valve replacement surgeries, taking into
consideration their pre and post operation condition. Of said patients, 3.7% developed infective
endocarditis. All valve prostheses were either of allograft (human), xenograft (porcine, bovine, or
equine), or mechanical design (composite synthetics), the xenograft being the most popular.

A Report On India s The Garden Where Plastic Bags
On a visit to India a while back I came upon a fenced empty field that was practically buried in
flimsy white throwaway plastic bags, the kind you carry your purchases home in from the store.
The locals joked that this was the garden where plastic bags grew.
But when I returned to India last month, I was pleasantly surprised to find that now when you
shop in New Delhi, no store will give you a plastic bag for your purchases. They re illegal there, as
well as in many other Indian cities and states.
That puts India well ahead of most of the world when it comes to this particular ecological issue.
Most everywhere in the U.S., for instance, the throwaway plastic bag remains the ubiquitous way
people haul their stuff home from the local store. But those bags never biodegrade into anything
that nature can use again.
Worse, the vast majority of such single use plastic items never get recycled, and even degradable
plastics may not degrade all that well. On top of that, product life cycle assessments, which are on
the verge of becoming more commonly available and used in the marketplace, do not include either
litter or biodegradability as factors.
The news on some once promising plastic alternatives is not so encouraging. A review published

The Ethics Of The National Women s Hall Of Fame
Fate is debatable. Some say that we are all pawns in a higher being s chess game. Others believe
that we execute free will in every aspect of our lives. Most people, however, believe a
combination of the two. It is an age old question, and like all intangible questions we try again and
again to formulate an answer through books, movies, conversations, analysis of history and
prediction of the future. We look at snapshots of the past or theoretical worlds and try to discern
our own answers. When Katherine Switzer decided to register for and run the Boston Marathonin

While the athletes recognized it was time for women to join the sport, others had vastly different
opinions.
During the Boston Marathon, there is a section for photographers to take shots of the athletes. It
just so happened that this was where Jock Semple tried to throw Katherine out of the race.
Unluckily for him however, Katherine s boyfriend at the time, Tom Miller, an All American
footballer, was running the marathon with her and tackled Jock. If she had not made the
decision to date Tom Miller, she most likely would have been physically thrown out of the race
and never have finished. This whole scene took place right in front of the photographers and the
photo of Semple trying to throw Switzer out is now rather famous and served as huge publicity
for women in sports at the time (Makers). In order for Switzer to have made as big of a splash as
she did, so many smaller details had to fall into place. For starters, Katherine s father was a major
in the United States Army, this set her up to lead a physically active life. Additionally she went to
a school with an open and supportive cross country coach. Without that coach, it is questionable as
whether she would have registered for, or even have run the marathon! Lastly, if Jock Semple had
not tried to physically remove her from the race in front of the photographers, the iconic photo that
changed the face of women in sports might

Persuasion And Anne Elliot
In the novel Persuasion, Anne Elliot was the second daughter of Sir Walter Elliot and was the
heroine in this novel by Jane Austen. Anne had two sisters named Elizabeth and Mary. Elizabeth
was the oldest daughter and was much like her father, being cold and selfish. Unfortunately,
Elizabeth was her father s favorite daughter. Mary was the youngest daughter who was married
to a young man named Charles Musgrove. Anne, being the middle child, was sweet and shy
about her intelligence and was ignored by her father and sister Elizabeth. Anne s father, Sir
Walter Elliot, was a very conceited and vain man because of his good looks and his title of minor
nobility. He lived above his financial means most of the time and rented a big home so others in...

The Austen children grew up being encouraged to learn by extensive reading from their father s
library and to be creative thinkers. Jane and her sister were sent to a boarding school so they
would have a formal education. Jane started to write romantic fiction as a young teen. After Jane s
father died, she and her sister had financial difficulties much like the Elliot s did in Persuasion. Jane
Austen s life seems to be closely related to many of the situations and characters in the lives of
the female characters she writes about in her novels. Jane was also persuaded by her father and
a female mentor to not to love a man because they believed he could not provide for her
financially and he was not of a high social status. This situation can be compared to Anne Elliot s
character when she was persuaded by her father and mentor, Lady Russell, to give up her love of
and engagement to Captain Fredrick Wentworth, a British naval officer. They found him to be an
unsuitable choice because of his lack of money and connections in society. Jane Austen wrote about
real life issues of manner, upbringing of children, morality, education, and marriagein a society of
high social status and position. Jane Austen s family was well respected members of their
community, much like the Elliot family. Jane s status as a single woman did not upset her like
other single women. The lack of a husband allowed her the freedom to concentrate on her novels,
and gave her the opportunity to be a great observer of the actions of those around her, especially in
the study of complex classes and gender relationships which were an important part of life in the
early nineteenth century English

Micro Parties In Australia Essay
Micro parties have been apart of the democratic landscape in Australia for many years but rose to
prominence in Australia during and after the 2013 Federal election where the election delivered the
biggest Senate crossbench in modern history. Due to their size the micro parties have no real
chance of forming government but they do have a huge opportunity in influencing electoral
outcomes. Competition in any industry is positive and with the influx of micro parties in Australia,
most having an impact on the electorate and appealing to voters the new look Senate can be seen
as a major win for Australian democracy.
The rising popularity of micro parties such as Family First, Sex Party, Liberal Democrats, The
Democrats and The Greens just to name ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Larger and unpredictable cohorts of swinging voters now characterize our democratic system. Their
political preferences and voting intentions constantly change, often heavily influenced by a single
issue or narrower policy platform.
The major parties, as a result, become less flexible and responsive. They can be held up by
procedural delays, adherence to party rules or structures, and even the need for cabinet solidarity.
All this suggests micro parties may not be some kind of unwelcome or unrepresentative intrusion
into our democratic system, as conventional views would have it.
Criticism of the major parties has also been directed toward the type of candidate put up for
election by the major political parties. Matthewson (abc 2014) states that there has been an influx
of the professional political elite such as former political advisers, party apparatchiks and trade
union leaders who have very little real life experiences which alienates them from the general voters
and makes them difficult to relate

AmericaВґs Neoliberal Capitalism and the Economic Expansion...
America s neoliberal capitalism and the economic expansion
After the crisis of government regulation capitalism about six years from 1973 to1979, a new
layout liberal capitalism started to appear; firstly it was in Britain and the United States. In
America, the new liberal capitalism was of main features in following:
(1) Cancel the regulation of finance and business not only in domestic but also internationally,
allowing the free market rule, and realizing capital to flow freely.
(2) Privatize government services directly provide the government agencies and government
workers in the past.

incomes, produced a large and growing number of money to invest, these funds want to transcend
the existing investment opportunities. All of this provides good conditions for emergence of the

Upon opening the back door, Vasquez observed that there was just enough space to squeeze past
the refrigerator blocking the exit. The air smelled of burned rubber and melted wires; a damp
ash covered the ground, sticking to their boots. In the kitchen, Vasquez and Fogg discerned only
smoke and heat damage a sign that the fire had not originated there and so they pushed deeper
into the nine hundred and seventy five square foot building. A central corridor led past a utility
room and the master bedroom, then past a small living room, on the left, and the children s
bedroom, on the right, ending at the front door, which opened onto the porch. Vasquez tried to
take in everything, a process that he compared to entering one s mother in law s house for the
first time: I have the same curiosity. In the utility room, he noticed on the wall pictures of skulls
and what he later described as an image of the Grim Reaper. Then he turned into the master
bedroom, where Amber s body had been found. Most of the damage there was also from smoke
and heat, suggesting that the fire had started farther down the hallway, and he headed that way,
stepping over debris and ducking under insulation and wiring that hung down from the exposed
ceiling. As he and Fogg removed some of the clutter, they noticed deep charring along the base of
the walls. Because gases become buoyant when heated, flames ordinarily burn upward. But Vasquez

Comparing Epic Of Gilgamesh And Noah
Compare/Contrast of Gilgamesh and Noah The Epic of Gilgamesh has been a huge interest in
people since the nineteenth century with its theme of a universal flood and is parallel to the
story Noah and the flood. The Epic of Gilgamesh dates back to 2000 b.c. and Noah and the flood
dates to 400 b.c. People have many different myths on how the world was created while these two
myths focus on a flood that destroys mankind. There have been numerous flood stories identified
from ancient sources scattered around the world. The stories that were discovered on cuneiform
tablets, which comprise some of the earliest surviving writing, have obvious similarities ( Flood... ).

Ordinary Men Essay
Analysis of Ordinary Men
What do you see when you think about the Holocaust? What are things you associate with it?
Personally I think about the absolute evil of the Nazis and the horrible things that the Jews had
to endure. I think about how gut wrenchingly terrible of a life style every one of those people
had to live through and what it would be like to have been in their place. What I don t think
about and had never even considered before reading the book Ordinary Men is what it was like to
be a member of one of the police battalions that had to do all these gut wrenchingly terrible crimes
toward innocent human beings. I saw them as trained cold blooded killers, robots under Hitler s
command, and nothing else. While reading this book I began to realize that these people were
living human beings too, that at first felt disgusted by what they were instructed to do too and that s
what I think the author, Christopher Browning, was trying to do. He is saying that these men were
just regular people that were trained to kill and that if we re not aware of this phenomena that it
could happen again. The Order Police began after World War I. Germany was trying to create an
army of police that had military training and possessed military equipment since under the Treaty
of Versailles they were not allowed to have a large army. By 1941 The Order Police became heavily
involved in the slaughter of Soviet Jews. They were given a Commissar Order which authorized the

The Problem Of Racial Profiling
Twists of Humanity
Has one ever sit down and thought about the use of racial profiling in our country today? Many
individuals have a role in racial profiling and do not realize it. Racial profiling is using one s race
or ethnicity against them as a foundation of suspecting someone to committing an offense of
some sort. For example, racial profilers could say that Pit Bulls are more likely to bite than any
other breeds of dogs, and to keep this from happening, all Pit Bulls should be euthanized. Of
course, like all breeds of dogs, some Pit Bulls may bite, but not all of them deserve the punishment
of being euthanized. The main problem with racial profiling is that innocent individuals are targeted
due to past cases with their race. This leads to 36 year old Shoshana Hebshi, who is half Jewish and
half Arab. She was targeted on a plane in Detroit due to her race. Although Shoshana Hebshi was
targeted through racial profiling, the use of iron triangles saved Shoshana from unlawful
accusations.
On September 11, 2011, Shoshana Hebshi was travelling on the Frontier Airlines that landed in
Detroit when her and two Indian American men were targeted by federal agents who entered the
plane and demanded them to exit. Shoshana was handcuffed, pushed down steps, and into a
vehicle (Warikoo, 2013). Shoshana was later retained in a cell, ordered to strip bare, squat, and
cough while the officers checked her over (Warikoo, 2013). Hebshi stated, I was frightened and
humiliated (Warikoo,

  • 2. To Kill A Mockingbird Literary Analysis Essay Harper Lee s To Kill a Mockingbird demonstrates organic unity through the use of literary tools to create, maintain, and amplify the central theme. Lee constructs and develops the theme of social inequality by employing dialogue, irony, and an extended metaphor. Through dialogue, the townspeople show contempt for blacks, viewing them and anyone who treats them as equals as inferior. This is evident in the analysis of the conversations of Bob Ewell, Mrs. Dubose, and Francis Hancock where they refer to black peopleas uncivilized savages. Not only does Bob Ewell, contribute to the theme through his dialogue, but his full name of Robert E. Lee Ewell provokes irony that clarifies the racist undertones of the novel. Moreover, irony functions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Not only do the townspeople treat blacks as inferior but they also dislike those who defend blacks. As a result, when Atticus receives Tom Robinson s case and decides to defend Tom to the best of his abilities, the community curses Atticus. Offended by the fact that Atticus plans to defend Tom, Miss Stephanie calls him a nigger lovin bastard (Lee 248). Likewise, Mrs. Dubose says Atticus is no better than the niggers and trash he works for (Lee 117). Even Atticus family disapproves of his defense of Tom Robinson; his great nephew Francis tells Scout that Atticus is a nigger lover and he s ruinin the family (Lee 94). As evident through the mockery of blacks and those who defend them, the white citizens feel superior to blacks; this idea of white supremacy reaffirms the theme of social inequality. Through use of irony, Lee parallels the unjust treatment of blacks during the 1930s to that of the American Civil War. For instance, during the trial of Tom Robinson, Bob Ewell proudly responds to his full name, Robert E. Lee Ewell. The irony lies within the historical context as Robert E. Lee, a Confederate general during the American Civil War, fought for the continuation of slavery. By juxtaposing Bob Ewell with Robert E. Lee, Harper Lee underscores the blatant racism of Bob Ewell. Furthermore, Mr. Dolphus Raymond s actions exposes the bigotry of the white townspeople through the irony of his situation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I think that this photo became so popular and considered historic because it has been a symbol of our military s patriotism and valor America s strength, honor, and brotherhood. A strength that cannot be shaken, honor that cannot be abjured, and a brotherhood that cannot be broken. The battle for Iwo Jima was a bloody battle against the Japanese forces. The island took the heaviest and longest bombardment compared to any battles in the Pacific during the war ( Battle for Iwo Jima, 1945 , 1960). • 6. King Livia Research Paper Livia s devotion to being involved with the state did not stop with her husband s policies. Two generations later, with Tiberius Claudius Nero Germanicus, her influence is seen again. Claudius lived with Livia for a long time, during which he developed an immense amount of respect for her. Although he could be considered the black sheep of the family, when Claudius became emperor, he was successful in making Britain a province and extending the Roman rule to Northern Africa. The people wanted to celebrate Claudius, but he refused almost all praise. In fact, he directed all praise towards Livia instead. His grandmother Livia he not only honoured with equestrian contests but also deified; and he set up a statue to her in the temple of Augustus, charging the Vestal Virgins with the duty of offering the proper sacrifices, and he ordered that women should use her name in taking oaths (Dio Cassius Roman History Book 60). Claudius had so much admiration for her that he wanted her name to be spoken even when citizens were taking oaths. A Look at Ethical Perspectives Essay example A Look at Ethical Perspectives While it would be nice to think that it is easy to make decisions and all come to the same conclusion, this is not always the case. Unfortunately, even regarding ethical decisions where you may think a right and wrong way exist may not be easy to determine. Since everyone has different backgrounds and therefore, different perspectives, we may not agree on what the best course of action is to take in a difficult decision. While I believe that character is the most important, someone else may think that as long as the majority is satisfied that their decision is best. Not every decision is this easy to make, but through study and close attention to mistakes made by myself and others, I am able to increase the wisdom needed to give a virtuous answer. Obligation The names of the perspectives speak mostly for themselves. Obligation is making sure that the decision that is made is fair to all and that everyone is treated as equals (Weiss, 2006). The thought is that we should have a duty to all humanity. This however, presents a challenge when attempting to make a prompt decision and having to analyze the consequences that it will have on everyone. When choices are made from this perspective, an individual may not use his or her first thought of what is right or wrong, but instead what they think the majority of people would identify as being right. Generally this would be very similar to the character perspective as considering the effect on society as a whole would be an honest choice; however, this may not always be the case. When I consider integrity, I think of Godly values which are occasionally distorted by society due to man believing that he knows what is best. Results In most business decisions, organizations have to determine if the ends justify the means. This is the correct method most of the time, but may not be acceptable in all ethical decisions. I.Introduction: Differential Association Theory is a criminological theory devised by Edwin Sutherland asserting that criminal behavior is behavior learned through association with others who communicate their values and attitudes (Walsh, 559). Summary: We live in a world that is full of choices and some individuals believe we have a choice that is made by ourselves regardless of any influences from outside parties. We have the authority to determine what is right or wrong for our own lives and we should be held accountable for those decisions. We are in a digital world where selfies are more common than group photos and working alone for numerous hours are the latest trend. We are forbidden to ask for assistance from others because one should be able to provide for themselves. Walters lifestyle theory can be applied to our society today, in terms of crimeisn t a behavior one choices. Society has a pattern that can alter the course of someone s life and decisions leading them down a path of criminal history full of irresponsible, impulsive and self indulgent behavior. II.Differential Association Theory Differential Association Theory was created by Edwin Sutherland, whose primary goal was to create a theory that could explain both individual criminality and collect crime rates (Walsh, 186). For crime to occur conditions must be available, if not present crime does not exist (Walsh, 186). In reading 13, it shows that individuals exposed to criminal activity are more likely to become involved in criminal acts. Many empirical tests have relied on the number of criminal associates as evidence of interaction with criminal members within an individual s primary group (Walsh, 217). The reading on page 141 supports Sutherland s idea that behavior is learned. The play Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare and the movie 10 Things I Hate About You explore how the relationship between Katherine and Petruchio have evolved throughout cultural differences. Let s explore these differences now, starting with Petruchio. If you have seen 10 Things I Hate About You, you would definitely remember the rebellious and sexy Patrick. Whether that be his black combat boots, long hair and rugged appearance, or the fact that he ate a live duck, this certainly shows. This allowing him to think more highly of himself to get past Dwight s and other people s outlooks on him. However, Jack s life never turley became better. He went to the Hill school but got expelled, and Dwight s anger never left Jack, and clouded the little bit of happiness that Jack had gained in Chinook. All of this shows that imagination never truly makes things better, but provides an allusion. Through Jack it was learned that only working hard, and keeping out of trouble brings honest good fortune. Which was expressed throughout the memoir to allow the readers to see the good and bad that came from Jack s life. Beach s that had once been filled with life are now covered in garbage from many different countries. The garbage patch in the northern pacific ocean is a great example to put the extent of this problem in perspective. This garbage patch, formed by circular wind patterns called gyres, has been described by many as a floating island of trash. Some of the main sources of ocean pollutionare oil, plastic and agricultural waste and it is estimated that 80% of this pollution originates from land. As technology progresses worldwide, we must work together to formulate a plan to clean up our oceans as well as prevent contaminates from reaching our waterways in future years. It has been estimated that plastics and discarded fishing gear, such as monofilament line and discarded nets, kill one million seabirds and 150,000 marine mammals each year (Ambrose). Trade winds and gyres in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans can carry trash thousands of miles. When the currents caused by these winds intersect with land, the garbage is deposited on the shores of continents and many islands off the coast. Another major source of marine pollutionis pollution via petroleum products and oil spills. An oil spill large enough can completely destroy an environment for tens of thousands of marine animals. This can be seen in many politicians arguing for a point, in which they assume that their point is true and attempt to use their assumptions as proof that their assumption is true. It is a backwards type of circular thinking that values blind acceptance over truth. Political language especially suffers from these bad habits, because it is the type of language that deals most with the sending of important messages to entire societies. If there was another form of the English language that worked as effectively and as easily as doublespeak, then maybe the official language of public discourse would change. Until then, however, doublespeak is here to stay, in all of its meticulous, manipulative glory. I would propose that doublespeak is even more prevalent today than it was in 1990. With the widespread popularity of the internet comes even more ways for people to communicate, and more communication just increases the likelihood of doublespeak. Nowadays, corporations are expected to be present on the web, and this puts pressure on them to respond to issues that go viral. It s at that point when the company s PR person will make a doublespeak statement regarding the issue, trying to put out as many fires as possible by avoiding responsibility and manipulating the negatives into positives. If a response is not satisfactory, the people of the internet can respond negatively, and a cyber group of angry people on the internet can do a lot more damage to a company s reputation than a physical group of angry people protesting in the 90s. This sounds like it would decrease the use of doublespeak, but I personally think that it would just make the companies craft their doublespeak more cautiously, finding a happy medium between angry customer, and obliviously loyal ... Negros, as they were called in the 17th and 18th century where considered nothing more than slaves. Being a slave did not grant human rights to anything at any time or any place. But Frederick Douglass had different plans other than only being a slave. Overcoming slaverywould become a life long journey with the thoughts of becoming a free man the only possible option. Frederick Douglass was born in slavery as Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey in Talbot County, Maryland. By only knowing his mother s name and not knowing his date of birth or who his father was, this was normal for many Negros. This hurdle was only a few of many challenges that were not only faced by Frederick Douglas but also by many other slave s at this time. Growing up, Frederick Douglass was a very mild mannered child. He was originally a house Negro who learned very quickly what roles slaves played in their society. Slaves were not privileged to anything, they were not privileged to learn to read, write or know their history, which crippled slaves into centuries of oppression. But early in his life, Frederick Douglass knew this was not going to be his way of living. When Douglass was a very young child he lived with his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Separate Muslims From State Outline Separate Muslims from State Daniel M Elliott (Jr) ENG122 Nancy Segovia September 20, 2014 Separate Muslims from State Outline Throughout the depths of recorded history Muslims have constantly committed mass murders upon innocent people in the name of Islam. According to long established conventional Islamic views, Muhammad s revelations start the Qur an off in 610. Dating back to as early as 627, the Prophet Muhammad s followers have been recorded of murdering large numbers of non believers and even believers for that matter (Ye or, 1985). While researching wars declared in the name of Islam, the words convert or die (more often than not they surfaced together making the claim convert or die ) surfaced exceedingly often. Despite the common belief imprinted into the minds of nearly every United States citizen/civilian whom attended or is attending public school with the U.S., oppressing a people based off of their religious beliefs has the ability to be beneficial to the world on a global scale. Muslims should not be allowed to act as political advocates considering Islam gives approval of segregation, provides obligations of the religions followers to commit senseless acts of violence, and because of the fact that Islam allows systematic lying as a religious policy. Throughout this research essay we will discuss facts in regards to traditional and modern Islamic ideology while deciding whether someone of such beliefs has a place in a position ... • 21. Go Tell It On The Mountain Go Tell It on the Mountain is a story than many African Americans can relate too. Author James Baldwin paints a picture of what the post Civil War era was for former slaves and their families. Many African Americans moved north in areas such as Harlem to find better job opportunities and to escape the harsh treatment of the Jim Crow laws in the South. As black families were moving to the North, many saw this as an opportunity to start over. It was a sentiment of being reborn again. That is why I believe the Pentecostal church was very attractive to many African Americans. The Pentecostal church gave the African Americancommunity a sense of relief. It was an outlet from the harsh and cruel treatment that was distributed on a daily basis. The Pentecostal gave the black community hope just like how Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. There is a parallel to the Pentecost that the church would lead people to a better life and after their time on Earth is over. One of the main themes discussed in the book is silence. Silence was mainly discussed in the section of Gabriel s Prayer . Gabriel is a preacher in the novel. He was once a very ambitious and wild who felt like he was on top of the world and nothing could stop him. In this part of the book, his sister, Florence is crying at the altar. This gave him a flashback to when he was crying on a tree he often sees on a daily basis. He was waiting for a sign from God to cleanse him of all his sinbut hears ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They will start to care for each other even if they are not the same species. Like a dog taking care of a littler of kittens because the kittens have no mother. They will even feed offspring that are not even there own. I do believe that a dogthat just had puppies will take care of a litter of cats. Animals will care for one another. Like the lions in the passage Animal roles and relationship. The lions look out for the little cubs while the other ones go hunt and get food for them to eat. I know this because in passage one it says, In a pride of lions lionesses are the hunters while the males are the protectors. Also like Bea the giraffe and Wilma the ostrich. They both have a lot of land to walk around but they are always together. Bea cleans Wilma with her long tongue an Wilma likes to cuddle close to her side. • 27. What Is The Beauty Of The Beast Vs Beauty And The Beast The story of a girl who is held hostage by a frightening beast and then ends up falling in love with him is a tale as old as time. The live action version of the 1991 animated classic, Beauty and the Beast, is more than that though. The story portrayed in the live action film follows that of the animated version almost exactly. This musical romantic fantasy film, directed by Bill Condon, features an outstanding cast, which includes Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, and Josh Gad, among others. The motion picture is able to bring the animated movie to life even more so than one could imagine. Beauty and the Beast is a story about a pampered prince (played by Dan Stevens) who, because of his arrogance, is cursed and thus gets turned into a hideous beast. He can only be returned to his human form if someone is able to love him, and, in turn, he is able to learn to love. Thanks to the actual human actors in the live action film, the producers are able to portray this essential piece of the story well. The other main character, Belle (played by Emma Watson), is a brainy, beautiful, and light hearted girl. She voluntarily becomes the Beast s prisoner after she offers herself in exchange for her father (he accidently wanders to the Beast s castle during a cold winter night, and is taken prisoner). As time passes, Belle and the Beast become close. Unfortunately, during this time, the town also learns the Beast lives on the outskirts of their village, and they are frightened, ... The Measurement Of Pendulum s Harmonic Motion Lab Essay Name: Kaleen Name of Lab Partners: Matt and Yesh Institution Course Instructor Date of Submission The Measurement of Pendulum s Harmonic Motion Lab #2 Abstract The specific purpose of this experiment was to verify three physical concepts based on Newton s Laws. These concepts are vector addition, force as a vector, and the law of equilibrium. The densities of two different objects were compared by measuring their masses and volumes. In this experiment, two different sets of methods of volume measurement were compared to the density computation of an object bearing a standard shape. In addition, the density computation was used to determine the buoyant force acting on different objects. At this point, it was observed that an object maintains a constant velocity if all the external forces cancel out one another (no net force results from the unbalanced forces acting on an object). In this case, a force table was used to study Newton s First Law of Motion. These forces were represented as F1, F2, and F3. Analysis of results obtained from the experiment proved that the value of F3 determined through calculations was less than the measured value of F3. In Trial#1, for example, the calculated value of F3 was 211.59g @ 2430 while the measured value of F3 was 215g @2430, translating to a % difference of 0.5g @20. Although the primary objectives of the lab were achieved, errors (in particular, static friction) occurred during the experiment. These errors were observed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. The Vampires Are Now A Metaphor Of Human Beings As one of the most attractive and enduring figures in the Gothic literature, the vampires have moved from being a peripheral element with the genre to a place near the center and are capable of generating its own massive tradition now. In the recent literary history, they have already been adapted to play a role of a rebel against the moral, social, religious, and even sexual taboos. Put simply, the vampires are now a metaphor of human beings in the modern society and life. With the publication and popularity of The Vampire Chronicles, especially that of Interview with the Vampire, Anne Rice innovates the Gothic tradition in the western literature successfully, for comparatively speaking, the vampires in her novels are more sympathetic and humanized than the terrible and emotionless monsters before. As it is said by both Jan Gordon and Veronica Hollinger, the vampires also stand for some border anxieties, since they penetrate boundaries by their own special and complicated nature, that is to say, between life and death, between love and fear, between power and persecution. Furthermore, sensitive to the social issues very much, Anne Rice expresses the sentimental feelings of the vampires in great detail and by exquisite words and describes vividly the existing state of the outsiders of the modern times as well. Therefore, in the case of Interview with the Vampire, there is a quite highly rational and philosophical probe into the life and the existence of human beings. From ... Infective endocarditis is an infection of microorganisms, whether it be bacterial or viral, which form colonies within the endothelial lining of the heart tissue. This initiates an immune response that causes the infected sites to grow. Figure 1 8 shows vegetations on the aortic valve which prevent it from functioning properly. Without the ability to fully seal during diastole, blood is pulled back through the aortic valve from the aorta. This disrupts the pressure in the left ventricle in such a way that creates unnecessary stress on the muscle. Infective endocarditis that is present on the right side of the heart (including the aortic valve) is of highest incidence within the population of recreational intravenous drug users at 46% 78% of reported cases. 9 The risk of infective endocarditis causing vegetation on and around the aortic valve increases after valve replacement surgery. • 40. The Ethics Of The National Women s Hall Of Fame Fate is debatable. Some say that we are all pawns in a higher being s chess game. Others believe that we execute free will in every aspect of our lives. Most people, however, believe a combination of the two. It is an age old question, and like all intangible questions we try again and again to formulate an answer through books, movies, conversations, analysis of history and prediction of the future. We look at snapshots of the past or theoretical worlds and try to discern our own answers. When Katherine Switzer decided to register for and run the Boston Marathonin 1967, was it an action of her own will or was it predestined? While the athletes recognized it was time for women to join the sport, others had vastly different opinions. During the Boston Marathon, there is a section for photographers to take shots of the athletes. It just so happened that this was where Jock Semple tried to throw Katherine out of the race. Unluckily for him however, Katherine s boyfriend at the time, Tom Miller, an All American footballer, was running the marathon with her and tackled Jock. If she had not made the decision to date Tom Miller, she most likely would have been physically thrown out of the race and never have finished. This whole scene took place right in front of the photographers and the photo of Semple trying to throw Switzer out is now rather famous and served as huge publicity for women in sports at the time (Makers). In order for Switzer to have made as big of a splash as she did, so many smaller details had to fall into place. For starters, Katherine s father was a major in the United States Army, this set her up to lead a physically active life. Additionally she went to a school with an open and supportive cross country coach. Without that coach, it is questionable as whether she would have registered for, or even have run the marathon! Lastly, if Jock Semple had not tried to physically remove her from the race in front of the photographers, the iconic photo that changed the face of women in sports might ... Anne had two sisters named Elizabeth and Mary. Elizabeth was the oldest daughter and was much like her father, being cold and selfish. Unfortunately, Elizabeth was her father s favorite daughter. Mary was the youngest daughter who was married to a young man named Charles Musgrove. Anne, being the middle child, was sweet and shy about her intelligence and was ignored by her father and sister Elizabeth. The Austen children grew up being encouraged to learn by extensive reading from their father s library and to be creative thinkers. Jane and her sister were sent to a boarding school so they would have a formal education. Jane started to write romantic fiction as a young teen. After Jane s father died, she and her sister had financial difficulties much like the Elliot s did in Persuasion. Jane Austen s life seems to be closely related to many of the situations and characters in the lives of the female characters she writes about in her novels. Jane was also persuaded by her father and a female mentor to not to love a man because they believed he could not provide for her financially and he was not of a high social status. This situation can be compared to Anne Elliot s character when she was persuaded by her father and mentor, Lady Russell, to give up her love of and engagement to Captain Fredrick Wentworth, a British naval officer. They found him to be an unsuitable choice because of his lack of money and connections in society. Jane Austen wrote about real life issues of manner, upbringing of children, morality, education, and marriagein a society of high social status and position. Jane Austen s family was well respected members of their community, much like the Elliot family. Jane s status as a single woman did not upset her like other single women. The lack of a husband allowed her the freedom to concentrate on her novels, and gave her the opportunity to be a great observer of the actions of those around her, especially in the study of complex classes and gender relationships which were an important part of life in the early nineteenth century English ... Larger and unpredictable cohorts of swinging voters now characterize our democratic system. Their political preferences and voting intentions constantly change, often heavily influenced by a single issue or narrower policy platform. The major parties, as a result, become less flexible and responsive. They can be held up by procedural delays, adherence to party rules or structures, and even the need for cabinet solidarity. All this suggests micro parties may not be some kind of unwelcome or unrepresentative intrusion into our democratic system, as conventional views would have it. Criticism of the major parties has also been directed toward the type of candidate put up for election by the major political parties. Matthewson (abc 2014) states that there has been an influx of the professional political elite such as former political advisers, party apparatchiks and trade union leaders who have very little real life experiences which alienates them from the general voters and makes them difficult to relate ... The air smelled of burned rubber and melted wires; a damp ash covered the ground, sticking to their boots. In the kitchen, Vasquez and Fogg discerned only smoke and heat damage a sign that the fire had not originated there and so they pushed deeper into the nine hundred and seventy five square foot building. A central corridor led past a utility room and the master bedroom, then past a small living room, on the left, and the children s bedroom, on the right, ending at the front door, which opened onto the porch. Vasquez tried to take in everything, a process that he compared to entering one s mother in law s house for the first time: I have the same curiosity. In the utility room, he noticed on the wall pictures of skulls and what he later described as an image of the Grim Reaper. Then he turned into the master bedroom, where Amber s body had been found. Most of the damage there was also from smoke and heat, suggesting that the fire had started farther down the hallway, and he headed that way, stepping over debris and ducking under insulation and wiring that hung down from the exposed ceiling. As he and Fogg removed some of the clutter, they noticed deep charring along the base of the walls. Because gases become buoyant when heated, flames ordinarily burn upward. Personally I think about the absolute evil of the Nazis and the horrible things that the Jews had to endure. I think about how gut wrenchingly terrible of a life style every one of those people had to live through and what it would be like to have been in their place. What I don t think about and had never even considered before reading the book Ordinary Men is what it was like to be a member of one of the police battalions that had to do all these gut wrenchingly terrible crimes toward innocent human beings. I saw them as trained cold blooded killers, robots under Hitler s command, and nothing else. While reading this book I began to realize that these people were living human beings too, that at first felt disgusted by what they were instructed to do too and that s what I think the author, Christopher Browning, was trying to do. He is saying that these men were just regular people that were trained to kill and that if we re not aware of this phenomena that it could happen again. The Order Police began after World War I. Germany was trying to create an army of police that had military training and possessed military equipment since under the Treaty of Versailles they were not allowed to have a large army. By 1941 The Order Police became heavily involved in the slaughter of Soviet Jews. They were given a Commissar Order which authorized the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. The Problem Of Racial Profiling Twists of Humanity Has one ever sit down and thought about the use of racial profiling in our country today? Many individuals have a role in racial profiling and do not realize it. Racial profiling is using one s race or ethnicity against them as a foundation of suspecting someone to committing an offense of some sort. For example, racial profilers could say that Pit Bulls are more likely to bite than any other breeds of dogs, and to keep this from happening, all Pit Bulls should be euthanized. Of course, like all breeds of dogs, some Pit Bulls may bite, but not all of them deserve the punishment of being euthanized. The main problem with racial profiling is that innocent individuals are targeted due to past cases with their race. This leads to 36 year old Shoshana Hebshi, who is half Jewish and half Arab. She was targeted on a plane in Detroit due to her race. Although Shoshana Hebshi was targeted through racial profiling, the use of iron triangles saved Shoshana from unlawful accusations. On September 11, 2011, Shoshana Hebshi was travelling on the Frontier Airlines that landed in Detroit when her and two Indian American men were targeted by federal agents who entered the plane and demanded them to exit. Shoshana was handcuffed, pushed down steps, and into a vehicle (Warikoo, 2013). Shoshana was later retained in a cell, ordered to strip bare, squat, and cough while the officers checked her over (Warikoo, 2013). Hebshi stated, I was frightened and humiliated (Warikoo, ...
