1. Conventions of a movie poster
• Title/Header: the audience
know what movie the poster is
advertising allowing for them to
be aware of its growth.
• Main Image: gets the audience
intrigued also can often give
away genre of film
• Tagline: gives a small hint as to
what the film is about and
sparks interest
• Date of release: gives
information about when people
can watch the film
• Age certificate: the age rating
tells the audience the youngest
age allowed to watch this film
legally
2. Why are these conventions affective?
These conventions allows for the name
of the film stay in the viewers mind,
possibly leading to that person wanting
to see the film because they can not stop
thinking about the film. The main image
also benefits in the same way and
creates excitement for the individual. In
addition, if known actors or directors are
on the poster it will create more interest
in the film as people who like the person
named would want to see their work.
This more than likely would not be the
case for short films as they are probably
new to the industry, therefore people
will not recognise their names.
Adding social media information on
short film posters will benefit as it
informs the audience on how to follow
the story and the people behind making
it.
