4. Why is a focal point important?
- Your eye will generally
need a ‘resting place’ or
something of interest to
really hold it.
- Where does your eye
rest in this photo?
5. Setting your point of interest apart from it’s surroundings

- Photo A has smaller depth of field which allows the eye a
resting point. There is also a strong contrast of colors that
emphasizes the shape of the flower.
- Photo B has strong color contrast, but there’s too much
repetition of shape to focus our attention.There is not one
resting point for your eye.
