Why I Have A Healthcare Profession
During tenth grade, I decided to have a healthcare profession. Several people in my family work
in the health field as a psychiatrist, nurse, and doctor. In my country, Haiti, the option to go to
school was very limited because it s very expensive. My father saved up enough money, so we can
move to the United States. At the age of three, we came to the U.S. and my little brother Kenley
was born in this country. I accomplished my twelve year public education in Stamford, CT. I
graduated from Academy of Information Technology Engineering high school in 2013. Throughout
high school, I volunteered in the Stamford Hospital for three years. It was a great experience to
serve many different individuals. For example, I worked in departments such as Endoscopy, Patient
Transportation, Patient Registration, Maternity, Sunshine Team, and the Surgical Weight Loss.
Next, I attended a nursing program called Southern Westchester Boces in Harrison, NY on
September, 2014. In addition, I was assigned three nursing home locations and for each place I
stayed there for eight weeks. I learned nursing skills such as vital signs (pulse, temperature,
respirations, and blood pressure); administered medication; performed injections; provided care for
tracheostomy, gastrostomy, and wounds. I graduated on June 24, 2014 and it was a ten month
program. After graduating from a nursing school, it s a requirement to take the National Council
Licensure Examination known as the NCLEX to receive a nursing

Perspectives on China
In February of 2012, as I was reviewing the information about the Darden s GEMBA program,
specifically the locations of the global residencies, it was hard for me to be excited about going
to China. It would be my sixth time visiting the country. At the time, I was hoping for a more
unique location, somewhere where I had not been, yet somewhere where, from a business
perspective it would be a valid place to go. How about Japan or South Korea, I pondered.
But no, it was China, a place that I explored on multiple occasions, and a place I learned to like. To
make things worse, the destinations cities where the most obvious: Shanghai and Beijing. What
else is out there, that I have not seen and what else I can learn from visiting it again? My ... Show

Shanghai welcomed me with a taxi driver who refused to show me his meter readout, hijacked my
cell phone until I promised to pay him the outrageous taxi fee (long story culminating in me not
paying him the outrageous fee), throwing my suitcase of his trunk and driving off with his trunk up
so I could not capture his license plate. Not a bad start, I thought maybe I learn something after all.
Tia Zi Feng was everything I expected, crowded, cobble stone streets with many tiny shops,
cafes, and art galleries. My host Jamie, who had a New Zealand souvenir store at the bottom of
the studio was very welcoming. My first night he invited me to join him and a few fellow
Westerners to a Shanghai style restaurant situated in an old local style mansion. The experience
was wonderful; and I had a chance to meet some interesting yet very different people; from a yoga
/photographer woman from Minnesota, who was just finishing her three year Asian adventure to
an English teacher from Ohio, to an software entrepreneur from Oregon. Impressively they were
all more or less fluent in Mandarin, which I greeted with envy as my one and a half years of
learning the language had been not the most fruitful to say the least.
But then it was time to go and meet the GEMBA 13. It was so exciting to see the guys again. The
schedule looked intense and I started to think, contrary to my previous assertion, that I may learn
something.

The Morality Of Inertia Summary
The Morality of Inertia by Lionel Trilling is about how Ethan Frome refuses to take action for
what he wants due to moral issues. Trilling talks about how miserable is Frome s life. He has
this desire to share his life with Mattie, but at the same time he can t leave his marriage with
Zeena. Trilling talks about how literature doesn t get along with inertia, and how Wharton creates a
story where the main character is experiencing life in death. Throughout the whole story, Frome is
always thinking about leaving Zeena to be able to have a future life with Mattie, but he loses
momentum all the time. At the end, he does take action and leaves with Mattie, but not for so long
or too far because they both ended up living with Zeena anyways.

Understand how to make telephone calls 1.1 Describe the different features of telephone
systems and how to use themHold so that you can hear them but they can t hear you, for
example if the person you rang asked a question and you didn t know the answer, you would put
them on hold to ask someone within the business. 1.2 Give reasons for identifying the purpose of
a call before making it To understand the purpose of the phone call will make it so that you know
what you are talking to the person about.I.E. if I had a relevant job for a specific candidate, I
wouldn t speak to them about something that was completely irrelevant to their skill set. 1.3

the 24th April 2014, we wouldn t put a job in the Birmingham area starting on the 16th January

purpose of confidentiality and security when dealing with callers The purpose of confidentiality
and security when on the phone to callers is so that no one irrelevant to the business gets that
information. For example maybe when on the phone to a candidate and asking for personal details
about their current phone number for example, if someone who wasn t working in the business was
in the room you wouldn t repeat the number back to them as the person who isn t relevant could

The Joy Luck Club Essay
The Joy Luck Club Entry 7 Waverly was going to tell Lindo of her and Rich s engagement, but
whenever she mentioned him, Lindo cut her off and began to talk about something else. Waverly
was convinced that her mother did not have any good intentions, and that she never saw good in
people. Due to this, she was afraid of what her mother will say when she would meet Rich.
According to Waverly, she and Rich shared a pure love , which she was afraid her mother would
poison. Waverly planned to go to Auntie Suyuan s house with Rich for dinner, knowing that her
mother would then invite the two over for dinner to her house, and this would give her mother a

1984 Literary Analysis
In every country, county and city, a government is intact to resolve each community s issues. It is
formed to further perfect each society to become a utopia for its citizens, but even within the
government itself, obstacles, such as the balance of the state s power, remain. This type of dilemma
is demonstrated throughout literature; one example can be recognized in George Orwells 1984.
George Orwell uses literary elements to express social issues of the dystopian society in 1984.
Many social issues involving social control from the governmentis expressed through the literary
element of symbolism. Different recurring symbols in 1984 by George Orwell include the
government figure Big Brother, Winston Smith s occupation, and Oceania s language... Show more

The country s language, Newspeak, also symbolizes a form of the social control issue. This
language is a digression from the original language Oldspeak, which is closely related to the
English language. Newspeak is a gradual regression of Oldspeak because the dictionary for
Newspeak is always being revised and shorten. Over time the citizens of Oceania gradually
develop a smaller range of vocabulary. Thoughtcrime is opposing the Party in any way or having
different beliefs from the Party, and this is a dilemma in Oceania. The only other way for the
Party to eliminate thoughtcrime is to narrow the range of thought...make thoughtcrime
impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever
be needed will be expressed in one word, and make other thoughts inexpressible (52). Therefore
there will not be a word to express a certain thought or feeling eliminating individuality and any
way for the people of Oceania to know any different. Soon there will be no expression to explicit
the strong feelings such as love or even hate. This is a very strong form of social control, but this
social issue is recognized by Winston

Living in a family of six which included my grandparents, has always inculcated values in me. Life

instances like my parents wanted to make a trip to Malaysia for their 25th anniversary but my

why are you vegetarian? 4) Where do you get your protein from?
I definitely value the traditions my family gave me and at the same time I also respect the fact

The Stranger Of The Photo Is Not Me
The Stranger in the Photo is Not Me I ve always felt a strange connection to the stars, one that I
have never fully understood. I used to believe that it was simply the night itself that appealed to
me. There is something so incredibly compelling about it. It s not the silence, necessarily, but
the way that every breath is amplified; it s not so much the darkness, but the way that the stars
light it up. There is an unparalleled magic to them, to the way that they swirl and writhe and
explode of their own accord. Although the moon will orbit for eternity and the stars will
eventually fade into submission, it is the latter that I admire the most. I would rather die at the
hands of my own power and light than live infinitely off of the nectar of somebody else s.
Perhaps that is why I tried to take my own life mere hours after this photo was taken. I could let
the eating disorder, anxiety, and depression that were ravaging my life snatch it out of my hands,
I could fight an impossible battle against my own head and begin the long, uncertain road to a
seemingly unattainable recovery , or I could simply allow myself to explode. I will be the first
to admit that the smile of the girl in this photo (bottom row, far left) looks awfully controlled for
someone who was about to explode. I will also be the first to admit that I had every reason to be
smiling. I was surrounded by my soccer teammates, who had been my metaphorical sisters since

Progression Of Theatre Essay
The beginnings of theatre go back far I history. It started by acting out of religious rites portrayed
by sings and dances to their gods. It s believed to be started by the Greeks. The very words
theatre, drama, tragedy and comedy are Greek in origin (Brown 13). England has been the center
of theatricals for many generations. There are many actors from England that have achieved
success in America. England s plays have been preformed on American stages. This paper follows
the progression of the theatreand its elements of acting, set design and technology from birth to

and tickets are now more affordable. People are drawn to this style of entertainment. There are

times of struggle the theatre is a form of escape for the masses and has been an escape method
throughout history. Theatre has continued to live on from the birth of American theatre to modern
theatre and continuing on now to the future through the progression of acting, design and
technology.
To understand the progression of acting, design and technology in theatre we start with the past
history, birth of American theatre. It was the visiting actors from England, landing first in Virginia,
who laid the foundations of the American theatre, and along English lines that it developed (
Hartnoll 165). Playhouses began to spring up in Virginia, North Carolina and Philadelphia. These
were the main areas of theatrical activity. The English

Cost Accouting Systems for John Deere Component Works
Management Consultants
Report
Executive Summary
John Deere Component Works (JDCW) has been subject to a number of unsuccessful competitive
bids due to the inherent deficiencies of their existing costing system. This has illustrated the
importance of obtaining a thorough understanding of costs, and desirability of implementing a
superior costing system.
This report contains: * A general overview of the problems confronted by JDCW * An analysis of
the current standard costing system * An exposition of Activity Based Costing (ABC) * An
evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of each system * Recommendations

Following this revelation, management attention was directed to the current costing system.
Traditional Costing System
JDCW employed a traditional standard costing system throughout its operations. This form of
costing permeated the industrial era, which was categorised by low overhead costs and the
production of a limited variety of goods. Standard costing involves allocating overheads to cost
objects using volume based cost drivers, such as machine or labour hours. Albeit easy to implement
and understand, this system frequently results in over costing and under costing. JDCW priced
their products based on full costs, which included all direct material, labour, overhead and period
overhead, using standard costing. Whilst this practice was satisfactory for internal transactions, the
inefficiencies were emphasised when JDCW sought to bid for parts against external suppliers.
Number of machine hours, direct labour hours and material dollars were used as overhead
allocation rates. By restricting the overhead rates to the aforementioned volume based activities,
several problems eventuated.
The Industrial Engineering department used pre established standard hours for direct labour
runtime. Using standard hours produced costing discrepancies, especially because no emphasis was
placed on direct materials, overhead and period overhead costs. This was an insufficient method to
compare actual and standard percentages.

Two Major Control Theories
Travis Hirschi developed two major control theories which are influential in criminology today
(Lecture). Hirschi first theory was Social Bond Theory which he explained in his paper Causes in
Delinquency, published in 1969 (Lecture). Hirschi criticized his theory and moved the locus of
control from the person s position in society to what internally drove the person not to commit crime
(Cullen Text, Part VI). In 1990, Hirschi discounted Social Bond Theory and teamed up with
Michael Gottfredson in the paper a General Theory of Crime where they explained their new theory,
Self Control Theory (Lecture). Though these theories are inherently different they both contributed
greatly to the control theory and presented an interesting new alternative... Show more content on

Hirschi stated there were four social bonds that tied the person to conventional ways: attachment,
commitment, involvement and belief (Cullen Text, Part VI). Attachment was the person s
emotional attachment to others (Cullen Text, Part VI). A person may refrain from a criminal act
depending on what he perceives others will think of him after the event. Commitment is the
person s investment into their future (Cullen Text, Part18). If they are invested into their future,
they may not jeopardize it by committing a crime. Involvement is the person s participation in
life events and social activities (Cullen Text, Part18). The person may be too busy to commit a
crime. Belief is the person s view of legitimacy of social rules and laws (Cullen Text, Part18). If that
person believes in the rules they are less likely to break them. If these bonds are weak or broken
then a person is more likely going to commit a crime (Cullen Text, Part18).
Hirschi criticized his first theory and saw there were some inherent errors which he readdressed in
is second theory, Self Control Theory (Lecture). Hirschi s major problem was he believed the locus
of control was not societies bonds to the individual but the internal mechanism of self control
(Cullen Text, Part VI). Hirschi hoped his new theory, Self Control Theory, would

Like Water For Chocolate
Abstract This paper was influenced through Laura Esquivel s, Like Water for Chocolate, a tragic
romance novel that is denied of love by family tradition. The key topics of this paper that analysis
will be touching on are over main characters, theme, and symbolism. This paper explains the
importance and the analysis of each main characterby their description the author is providing a
visual image for the readers to picture. Tradition is not only the theme of the novelbut it shows how
Mexican tradition is a hard and sensitive subject to deal with back in the revolutionary days. Finally,
how symbolism plays a huge part in this novel and the different meanings. With much research the
reader can see that the author uses her own experience to influence this story.

novel carries many of the traditions that Mexicans find very important in their culture. Mexican
women play a big role in domestic life and must know how to prepare food. The ability of

There were many odd things about this tribe, such as, quot; Why did these people disappear after
being around for over 1,000 years? quot; No one knows where they went, but we do know they

were priced higher than $15,000. Some of the Weirdest things about these Indians is that they had
too many fingers an extra tooth on the right lower side, and a hole in the lower jaw.
As said in the introduction, no one knows what happened to these Indians.
Many believe they just disappeared, or were abducted by aliens, but no one knows, and probably
will never know what happened. Regardless of what scientists find, nothing can prove the truth,

Causes Of Hurricane Katrina
There were several issues that played a part in the disaster of New Orleans afte Hurricane Katrina
had struck. Due to neglence of the five agencies ( that were responsible for designing, building, and
maintaining the New Orleans Hurricane Protection System led to insuffiecent preparation. Even
after declaring a state of emergency, lack of coordinating between Federal Emergency Management
Agency(FEMA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) resulted in a poor response to
help render aid and deliver supplies to the people of New Orleans. There are many stakeholders
involved in this catastrophe. To name a few: Residents of New Orleans, businesses, engineers, and
schools. Indirect stakeholders would involve groups like FEMA , Emergency Responders, and
government (local, state, federal) levels. Residents of New Orleans experienced the brunt of
Hurricane Katrinawhen the levees had been breached. Due to New Orleans being below sea
leavel, flooding was eminent. The residents who had evacuated were forced to leave everything
behind to escape the wrath of Hurricane Katrina. They were forced to high grounds in Baton
Rouge and travelled as far as Houston, Tx. Others who had made the decision to stay were forced
to their rooftops to avoid high waters. Unfortunately, this storm claimed 1500 people. Enginners

In The Lesser Blessed, by Richard Van Camp, ptarmigans are symbols of the main character s

experiencing emotional turmoil. Larry is a Dogrib teen who has a troubled past and begins to

Key Purpose Behind The Dobb- Frank Act
Very often than not there are regulations implemented as a means to dissolve an issue that needs to
be resolved as soon as possible and is implemented immediately. However these needed resolutions
end up affecting the little man such as community banks.
The main purpose behind the Dobb Frank act was to lend a hand to consumers and make the market
more financially stable. The majority of commercial banks are in fact community banks and tend to
serve in suburban, and rural communities. A huge difference between the larger banks in a
metropolitan area and a community bank is the way they make decisions on the customer that
come in to obtain a loan. Community banks use a means of relationship banking, which is when
the representative of the bank attempt to meet the needs of the customer by attempting to find a
means to meet these needs. Finding the best means through financial services with the customer
and working with them builds a relationship that might even be for a long term. Larger banks in
a metropolitan area are more likely to impose a less relationship minded means of dealing with
their customers. More than likely they ll turn to transactional banking. Transactional banks has no
input from customers and relies on the facts about the customer s history information, such as
credit scores. This type of banking is very affective when dealing with customer s on a wider scale,
because this serves as a cheaper option for a wider scale customer base. While this is great

Importance Of Servant Leadership And Indian Culture
Servant Leadership In Indian Culture and Hindu Religion
Although servant leadership is often associated with Christianity and assessed in a Biblical context,
it is important to recognize that servant leadership is present in other religions and cultural contexts
as well. Servant leadership has the capability to exist in any environment where there is humility,
selflessness, and a commitment to exhorting and empowering one s followers. Historically, the best
servant leaders have come from a variety of eras, cultures, ethnicities, and religions, proving that
servant leadership transcends all demographic and religious boundaries and is founded on a core
set of beliefs and values. This paper will aim to discuss servant leadership in the context of the
Hindu religion and the culture of India, proving that servant leadership promotes unifying people
rather than dividing by religious and cultural differences.
Servant Leadership in the Indian Culture
Culture is to a human collectivity is what personality is to an individual (Hofstede, 2001). By this,
Hofstede means that culture aids in identifying a people group in the same way that a personality
identifies a person. This means that in the same way that people with differing personalities but
similar values can be servant leaders, unique cultures with the same foundational emphasis on
service and leadership can practice servant leadership. This is important to remember when

Essay on 16 PF Personality Test
16 PF Personality Test
Resolving the conflict of Reliability vs. Accuracy in the 16 PF test
Introduction:
For psychologists, one of the more popular theories espoused is the trait approach to personality, or
the idea that people have consistent personality characteristics that can be measured and studied
(Kalat, 2002, 512). However there are several problems that arise. First, there are significant cross
cultural differences, so one set of personality traits for one culture may differ considerably for
another. The next problem would concern the creation of a test that could accurately measure these
traits. While psychologists have for the most part addressed these issues, I will focus on the latter
of the two. There has been a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Overall, I believe that the test was fairly accurate in measuring certain factors of my personality so
much so that it was difficult for me to find certain factors that I did not agree with. However
there were two factors, E (dominance) and Q1 (rebelliousness), which I believe were a bit
overrated in myself. Aside from these the test seemed to adequately define facets of my
personality. For warmth (factor A) my sten score read 4, indicating that I am slightly more
reserved and critical that easygoing and good natured. I scored a 7 in ego strength (factor C),
classifying me as more stable and emotionally mature and less emotional and changeable in
attitudes. In dominance (factor E) my sten score read 8, meaning I am more assertive,
competitive and stubborn rather than submissive, dependent and humble. I received an average
score of 5 in impulsivity (factor F) indicating a slightly more serious and sober approach to the
world over the cheerful and enthusiastic view. As for boldness (factor H), I received a sten
score of 4 signifying a more shy and restrained approach to things as opposed to an adventurous
genial one. I received a median score of 5 for emotional sensitivity (factor I) demonstrating my
slightly more tough minded and self reliant view in contrast to a sensitive insecure one. For
imagination (factor M) a score of 8, indicating that I am more imaginative, unconventional and
absorbed in ideas and am less so for practicality and the prosaic.

The Limitations Of William Faulkner
Howe, Irving. The Limitations of A Rose for Emily. William Faulkner: A Critical Study. ed.
William Faulkner, Bloom s Literature, 2007. Web. 21 Nov. 2015 One of the most famous
stories from William Faulkner, an American writer, was A rose for Emily and which requires
some understanding. It is about a relation between South and North, with Miss. Emily
representing the decadent South and Homer Barron the rapacious North. Faulkner made the
story so glaring and pointed in its effects and solicit a stringent line of interpretation. The title of
the story can say a lot about the purpose, but once reading through the story, it can justified the
theme of the story. Faulkner s type of writing catches people attention and keeps them reading to
the end of the story. The claim that the author is trying to persuade on this argument is
completely true because Faulkner made a good job writing the story with atmospheric detail.
When I read the story, it can easily catch my attention because of the way he wrote it. Also, The
Climax of the story justified the theme of the story. one s sense of the story s limitations can be
summed up by saying that finally it calls our attention not to its represented material but to the
canny skill with which Faulkner manipulates it. ( Howe 1). Notable for its control of atmospheric
detail, the story is a tour de force, and for all its undeniable detail, too cunningly a tour de force.

Rhetorical Analysis Of On Dumpster Diving By Lars Eighner
On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner is a collective work on the issue of Dumpster Diving, in
which Eighner depicts his own adventures as a Diver. His development of the central contention,
this way of life is not as it is portrayed or stigmatized, is progressed through Eighner s inclusion of
the three persuasive appeals: pathos, logos, and ethos. These three devices coupled with other
rhetorical devices provide an alluring argument, in which the reader sees the other side through a
new lens, and their opinions on this issue is vastly differed, upon completion of the reading.
The first appeal would be pathos, appealing to the audience s emotions by invoking a plethora of
feelings from personal examples. For instance, Eighner characterizes the sadness involved in
Dumpster Diving as he depicts of pets that are thrown into dumpsters asserting that, Although [he]
hope[s] to get off the streets so that Lizbeth [his dog] can have a long and comfortable old age
[....W]hen [Lizbeth s] time comes she too will go into a Dumpster (116). This shows how
Dumpster Diving is not as effortless and free flowing as it is conventionalized, depicting the
sorrow which is invoked. Using pets as an example is quite emotional in itself, as pets are
considered close to people s hearts, as well as being relatable. Consequently, the case of the
author pondering on his own pet s future, creates a connection between the reader and, thus
allows for the pain of the author to be felt by the reader. Another example of pathos is when
Eighner introduces himself as a Dumpster Diver and homeless as a result of the negative
connotations associated with the phrase Dumpster Diver and homeless, a sense of pity is directed
towards Eighner, as the way of living for him is drastically different from contemporary means.
One last example of an emotional appeal would be the narrative on the so called can scroungers.
Eighner accentuates the fact that these two groups [can scroungers and scavengers] are polar by
criticizing that Can scroungers lay waste to everything in their path and [. ...W]ill even go through
individual garbage cans, something [Eighner has] never seen a scavenger do (115). This text
renders the dichotomy Eighner is intending to

Gerald Sandusky Case
After reviewing serval sources related to this case, it is clear that this was an ongoing issue for
many years and the scope may extend into the 1970 s if new allegations are corroborated.
The case officially begins on November 4, 2011 when the Attorney General of the Commonwealth

contact with minors, and endangering the welfare of minors. Several of the charges cover offenses

scandal, however, he died of cancer shortly after Sandusky s arrest and his firing from PSU.
Aside from the allegations of child sexual abuse, the revelation of a cover up and who actually

Diamondback Moth Research Paper
Every year farmers crops are subject to droughts, floods, storms, and so much more. But one of
the biggest problems that seem to be plaguing the agricultural industry, specifically the cabbage
and lettuce industry, is pests. One pest in particular is the diamondback moth, and it has been
wreaking havoc all over New York. However, all is not lost; there still will be cabbage and lettuce
in the grocery store. The reason for this? Scientists have come up with an effective new way to
manage the diamondback moth, and it isn t reliant on pesticides. It uses genes. But, best of all, it
won t be one farmer paying for one treatment. It will be a universal movement, and this movement
has the possibility to revolutionize the crucifer, or, in more simple terms, the cabbage and lettuce

The diamondback moth is an invasive species that is believed to have originated in Europe.
Since it was not originally native to New York, it has few natural predators, so the population
can easily spiral out of control. It is brown and tan in appearance and is somewhat elongated in
shape. Females lay approximately 150 eggs at a time, but they can lay up to 300. In addition, the
moth only lives for up to 16 days. This may not seem like a long time to us because we live for
decades, but the diamondback moth is laying eggs for ten out of those sixteen days (Capinera,
2000). Now think about it. That s a lot of larvae in a short amount of time. This can be a big
problem for farmers, especially because the problem comes in the form of a common moth. There
are so many moth varieties in New York that it is almost impossible to know all about each one,

The Recession Of The United States
I. Introduction
Ever since World War II the United States has experienced many recessions. There have been many
terrible recessions that have hit this great country hard. What is a recession people may wonder? A
recession is a significant decline in activity across the economy, lasting longer than a few months. It
is visible in industrial production, employment, real income and wholesale retail trade. The
technical indicator of a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth as
measured by a country s gross domestic product (GDP). Although, the recession of 2001 wasn t a
dramatic and horrible recession, it was the end of the longest expansion our country had seen
since WWII. The expansion following the recession of 1991 was 10 years up until this recession
of 2001. Furthermore, this recession was difficult and was hard to deal with and overcome, because
during the time of this recession our country experienced 9/11.
II. Causes of the Recession
After the longest economic expansion in history, the U.S. experienced a recession in 2001. The
Recession of 2001 was relatively short, but still had its impact upon us Americans. Just like
many of the previous recessions our great country has faced, this one had many reasons as to
why we fell into a recession as well. Some of the reasons we experienced a recession in 2001 is,
because of the collapse of the dotcom bubble, the attack on 9/11, and a series of accounting attacks
at major U.S Corporations. The

that architecture wasn t a subject that could be understood in a brief manner, it was meant to be
studied in detail with a firm and complete knowledge about its function, mass, plane, time, space,

My Fellow America Rhetorical Analysis
I don t begin my speech today with the classic introduction My fellow Americans because I am
speaking to more than just Americans today. While several stories come to mind, a multitude
share one similar to mine, coming from a mixed background into a country that has opened its
doors as a land of opportunity and a second home. Those who have built a life of significance
have often extended a helping hand to many who did not have the same prospects or success in
their own ventures. This is the unifying thread in the saga of the American epic and what I seek to

Native to all tales of America are accounts of achievement, people who took from their sweat and

How One Stupid Tweet Blew Up Justine Sacco s Life
During a time when young people do most of their communicating from behind a computer
screen, Jon Ronson wrote an article called, How One Stupid Tweet Blew Up Justine Sacco s
Life. It is a report consisting of five different stories about people who were publicly humiliated
because of their distasteful social media posts. Instead of focusing on the mistakes of the tweeters,
Ronson discusses the fairness of their punishment. In order to catch and keep the attention of his
young audience, Ronson uses rhetorical devices that will make readers feel emotions like shock
and sympathy. Ronson begins the article with the story of Justine Sacco. He opens with an
enumeration, a rhetorical device that makes a point with a lot of detail. As she made the long
journey from New York to South Africa, to visit family during the holidays in 2013, Justine Sacco,
30 years old, and the senior director of corporate communication at IAC, began tweeting acerbic
little jokes about the indignities of travel (How One Stupid... 1). This gives the audience all of the
information about Justine Sacco that they need, and also makes them want to continue reading to
find out what the tweets said. He follows this opening with quotations of Justine s actual tweets.

attention of the generation that uses it the most. He does this by not overwhelming the audience
with facts. Instead he gives them the information

Jem has a lot of hope in him and as if Atticus might actually win the case. However, as realistic

The generation which sustained democracy through and after...
The generation which sustained democracy through and after the Second World War is dying,
and the baby boom that followed is passing into old age (Youniss 99). An older generation can
ignore addressing the issues of climate change, social security, and lack of cooperation among
elected officials, but today s children and youth have to deal with the consequences (98). A
democratic society should worry because we are not preparing youth to engage in politics and
community affairs (Syvertsen et al 593). A new electorate unwilling to act will allow these
problems to continue unattended and to worsen. A democracycannot maintain itself without active
citizens, and young people cannot live up to their full potential as citizens unless they... Show more

These challenges demand a coherent response, forcing people to think better.
Public discussion is a key part of the deliberative arts, which teach students how to identify and
develop a plan to solve a problem. The first art is framing, in which the group identifies all
potential options for achieving a goal. The next art is democratic deliberation, where students
discuss each option and judge it in relation to the group s goal. The next is working together for
mutual goals, wherein each member has to resist the urge to solve the problem on their own.
Students must also learn how to work together over an extended time, and how to evaluate their
own goals, actions, and results (Fleming 43 44).
A high school business teacher in Howard, South Carolina used these practices together to show his
students how to affect change. He obtained a grant from a local university to study the community s
cash flow. He took the problem to his students, who then conducted meetings with local business
owners, consulted with county auditor, and surveyed community members. From the data they
found that people were spending money in larger cities some distance away. The class published
the results, and local residents read the study and responded by buying more locally. Annual taxes
exceeded projections, and the auditor estimated that taxes infused six to seven million dollars into
the local economy. This project

Flat Tax Summary
Ted Cruz s Reforms on the Flat Tax and its Effect on Individuals
Ted Cruz, a republican presidential candidate proposes a 10% flat tax on all individual wages and
income. Unlike his competitors, Cruz proposes to eliminate the payroll tax and replace it with a
16% business flat tax (Rubin, 2016, p. 5). It increases the Standard Deduction from $6,300 ($12,600
married filing jointly) to $10,000 ($20,000 married filing jointly) while retaining the personal
exemption. Cruz proposes to eliminate the Alternative Minimum Tax. However, the candidate does
not offer any tax reforms on social security as well as Medicare. He expects to maintain them at
their current level. Even then, the candidate has unique tax proposals, which are envisaged to ensure

In accordance to Paul s plan, this new tax will replace the gift and the estate taxes as well as
sealing all the loopholes that usually favor the bigger businesses. Paul is also in support of the flat
tax rate that he envisages as eliminating unfair practices such as double taxation of individuals.
Apparently, Paul in his tax proposal is against the disbandment of the IRS. He says that he
would minimize its influence. According to his proposal, downsizing the IRS will make him to
ensure an economic boom. Paul is also supportive of Fiorina s proposal to simplify the tax code.
He says that simplifying the tax code will create more jobs, expand opportunities for all as well
as boost wages. Paul became the unique candidate in the 2016 presidential race when he proposed
to oppose any efforts that would increase taxes (Tucker, 2015, p. 103). Experts believe that if
elected as the president of the United States, he will live to his promise, considering that when he
ran for the US senate seat in 2010 in Kentucky, he ensured that no taxes were increased during his
tenure. Paul s plan to oppose efforts to increase taxes is against the principle of adequacy, which
suggests that an adequate taxation system should uphold the level of public services demanded by
policy makers as well as citizens

Cocaine abuse has been a persistent health problem worldwide for many years (Platt, 2002).
Adults aged 18 to 25 year have a higher rate of current cocaine use than any other age group, with
1.5 percent of young adults reporting past month cocaine use (The Science of Drug Abuse

Pygmalion And Galatea And My Fair Lady Research Paper
In today s world we are set to view that the opposite gender is becoming more of an equality
view. We see that in today s society we are presented with the idea that women can do anything
men can do. Yet in the myth of Pygmalion Galatea and the film My Fair Lady we are set forth to
see the different views on the opposite genderand how gender criticism comes to life. Developing
feelings is based on how we see the person, throughout we see both characters develop
relationships based on how they create this person, each man forms new feelings and perception
on women as they sculpt and create, their views on women are changed and the gender criticism
views flip. Our society today has become more accepting with equality in gender. We are faced
with having the opposite sex come out above us even with the disadvantages of paternity and
having more emotions. Women are oppressed by patriarchy economically, politically, socially,
and psychologically; patriarchal ideology is the primary means by which they are kept so.
(Brizee). Women are seen as less of men due to their disadvantages such as birth and their
emotions. Both characters don t really generate feelings for women because they are focused on
themselves and are under the impression that women are all the same. Women have more
psychological and primarily different logic than men hence the reason they generally make women
out to be less than them. Back then women were viewed as less capable and not having the ability
to do the things men can do. We are taught that now a days no matter what your gender is you can
be anything you want. Feminist criticism concern itself with stereotypical representations of
genders. It also may trace the history of relatively unknown or undervalued women writers,
potentially earning them their rightful place within the literary canon, and helps create a climate in
which women s creativity may be fully realized and appreciated. (Delahoyde). The stereotype that
is known about females is that we represent a more delicate nature. Yet we see many women
coming out on top and creating work that no man has done. Eventually women become more
noticed and recognized for their efforts and creativity. In the myth Pygmalion

Wine Industry Analysis
The US winery industry had a growth rate of 4.7% between 2006 and 2011, and is expected to

175 wineries have opened every year since 2000 [ (Richard Green) ]. The states of New York and
Virginia have been major players in the US wineindustry. The data shows that the demand for
wine has been increasing at an exponential rate over the past 5 years. Average annual revenue for
the wine industry is expected to be estimated at $20.2 billion through 2016 [ (IBISWorld) ]. The

These wineries would import large amounts of wine in bulk, and then bottle the wine in the US.
This allowed the larger wineries to sell their wine at a considerably cheaper price, hurting the
smaller domestic wineries. In 2011, the import market share in wine was roughly 26.5% [
(IBISWorld) ]. The amount of foreign wine entering the US has been on the rise ever since it
was named the largest consumer of wine in the world. Foreign producers, who are experiencing
a decline in business in their home country, are looking for new markets to sell their product.
Countries such as Argentina, Chile, Australia and New Zealand are able to produce their wine
at a lower cost than the US. The import of these wines has heated up the competition in the US
creating benefits for the US wine consumer. The superior quality of the imported wines has also
changed consumers thinking as far as how much should be spent on a good wine. The immediate
future looks promising for the wine industry. In 2012, the industry is expected to grow by 4.4%,
and will only increase through 2016 [ (IBISWorld) ]. The wine industry relies on a three tier
distribution system. The producers sell to the wholesalers, who then sell to the retailers. The
national sales tier consists of suppliers who sell to a wholesale distributor [ (Tincknell amp;

Fighting Without Knowledge Will Hurt Essay
In this era of information overload, our brains are bombarded by so many different news outlets it
can be difficult to choose which channel you want to watch. With all the accusations of liberal or
conservative bias dominating the feuds between the cable news channels, it would be easiest to
choose the channel that we believe best fits our own ideological views. When you look at MSNBC
and Fox News the ideologies seem to be completely opposite, but they have some similarities.
Both are accused of having either a liberal or a conservative bias and it is not very difficult to tell
which side the outlet leans toward, because of their constant bickering back and forth.

To some this seems absurd, but it is what his base group wants to hear. Whereas on the other side,
you have pundits like Ed Schultz who never criticize the current president, no matter what follies
he may commit, he only demonizes the previous one, again playing to the beliefs of his following.
It is the constant bickering between the people of opposing political ideologies that make the news
difficult for the common man to take with a grain of salt.
Beck often uses what seem to be scare tactics to get of his points across; whereas Schultz is more
likely to give you his own opinion mixed in with some facts to make it all seem completely true.
Neither method is successful in trying to create a balanced news outlet. In fact, the opinions of
each side are grounded so far in the left or right that the middle is impossible to find. I purpose
that Beck should visit MSNBC for a time, while Schultz takes a turn at FNC. Even though the
notion of these dyed in the wool party supporters walking in the shoes of their polar opposites
may seem absurd, but I believe that it would tone both of them down. I hope that it would give
each a reality check and it would bring much needed balance to the cable channels. If the hosts
were open to other people s opinions, no matter how different they were from their own, it would
make the American people feel more trusting toward news people in general and give both

Essay on King Tutankhamun and His Treasures
King Tutankhamun and His Treasures
The ancient Egyptians were noted for many things, one of which would have been their artwork.
Egyptians used many medians in their artwork that enhanced the details and beauty of every piece
of art. Their artwork is fascinating and mysterious, which pulls in the viewer into wanting to learn
more. One of the most important and unique Egyptian artworks belongs to King Tutankhamun, a
young pharaoh of Egypt. A brief history of the discovery of King Tut s tomband the importance and
beauty of certain pieces found in his tomb, will be discussed in this essay.

Peace was brought to Egypt during his reign as the worship of Amon, the Egyptians universal god,
abandoned under Akhenaton, was restored and Thebes, the city sacred to Amon, was again made
Egypt s capital. King Tut was not really an important pharaoh, but he is well known today because
of his intact tomb and the fabulous treasures found within.
King Tut s tomb contained many beautiful and elaborate pieces of artwork. Artwork varying
from wood sculptures, gold statues, wall paintings, writing utensils, intricate pieces of jewelry,
busts of the king s head, and many more were all discovered in his tomb. The sculptures
illustrate how Egyptian sculptors represent the realistically poses and statures of the human body.
Detail is another factor that is seen in all the artwork, whether it be a painted eye, a perfectly
carved beetle (scarab), or the placement of different colored jewels in a necklace. I am astounded
at how many items were found and how each one is entirely different from the next. It s amazing to
know that Egyptians cared so much for their leaders to put so much time and effort into their
artwork.
One piece that stands out of all the treasures in King Tut s tomb is the bust of his head that is
resting on what is said to be a lotus. The bust is carved in wood and overlaid with gesso (a mixture
of plaster and glue for use as a surface for painting). The face represents King Tut as a child with
disproportionate earlobes and it has

What I Learned In My Writing Class
When I enrolled in this class, I was sure that it will influence the way I write and read. I have a
relatively large experience with academic writing and reading; still, I would have benefited even
from slight improvements in my approach, methods, and techniques I use for writing and reading
assignments. Because of this class my reading, writing, and thinking processes became more
efficient.
I knew that my reading process was not efficient for the academic purposes. Before this class, my
critical reading was more akin to my pleasure reading. Thus, I spent incredible amounts of time on
reading assignments. I believe that the lesson about critical reading was very informative and
helpful since it provided particular methods and techniques which truly enhance the reading quality.
Some of the techniques like skimming the titles, finding the thesis and main ideas in the text were
familiar to me. However, the idea of annotation was new to me. I found the three word ... Show

I believe I wrote dull and flat texts. Moreover, my punctuation was terrible since I had no
understanding of English punctuation. But the lessons on the sentence structure turned my world
upside down: It was hard to believe that even simple sentences have such a great variety and can
turn your paper into something very interesting in the terms of structure. Practicing skill of
building effective sentences in the same essay was very helpful, for it allowed to focus purely on
the sentence and structure patterns rather than on the context. My writing improved since the

The Abuse of Alcohol by College Students
Alcohol and the abuse of it by college students is a big problem that many college towns such as
Iowa City, Iowa, are facing. With increasingly more students drinking alcohol, what was once just a
casual drink can quickly turn into binge drinking. This behavior has many consequences for not
only the student, but also the public. By being resilient and working together as a community, we
all could make it easier to combat this problem of binge drinking in college students in IowaCity
and the troubles that arise from it. Binge drinking is defined as the consumption of alcoholthat
raises a person s blood alcohol concentration in a short amount of time. This usually means five
or more drinks for men and four or more drinks for women within a two hour time span.
Although most college students are not able to drink alcohol legally until their junior year,
studies have shown that about four out of five college students drink alcohol before the legal
age of twenty one. Of these college students who drink, about half of them engage in binge
drinking. Binge drinking increases the risk of alcohol poisoning, a condition that could result in
death. This level of drinking has also been shown to increase the risk of committing suicide and
/or being a victim of sexual assault. Between 1.2 and 1.5 percent of college students say they have
tried commit suicide and more than 97,000 college students are sexually abused as a result of
alcohol or drug use. (Warren) Binge drinking also affects

Genghis Khan and Qin Shi Huang Essay

History is an amazing thing, which can let us harvest experience, which can make us look back at
the past, which can get us to compare with now. You can also find some incredible coincidences.
However, there were some differences in these coincidences. In old China, there were two great
emperors who both unified China Qin Shi Huang and Genghis Khan. As founders of Dynasties, they
were powerful leaders, military geniuses and brutal rulers. But, Genghis Khan paid more attention
to wars and the expansion of territory, and Qin Shi Huang unified the currency, word and measures

Qin Shi Huang is the best there ever was. After he defeated other countries with his army and
built the centralization, he unified the currency, word, and measures. From 475 BC to 221BC,
ancient China was divided into a collection of seven states that were constantly at war. By
221BC, Qin Shi Huang was able to bring the seven states under his control. After that, Qin Shi
Huang became the first emperor in Chinese history. According to the Encyclopedia of World
Biography, the author had particularly given us a point that Qin Shi Huang began a series of
reforms to consolidate his rule with the defeat complete and the establishment of his emperorship.
(Szczepanski) Thanks to Qin Shi Huang s political talent and sensible policies, those reforms
helped the Qin Dynasty restore the economy after war. In order to consolidate his rule, he reformed
by unifying currency, word, and measures. Even though he unified the Chinese characters in
writing, which promoted the development of culture, he also suppressed scholars who were not to
his liking. Consequently, many scholars involved were killed in the capital of the Qin Dynasty. In
spite of this, he still is the best there ever was.
All in all, these two powerful, talented, and brutal leaders promoted the development of Chinese
history. Comparing the two great emperors, Genghis Khan was so

  • 2. Why I Have A Healthcare Profession During tenth grade, I decided to have a healthcare profession. Several people in my family work in the health field as a psychiatrist, nurse, and doctor. In my country, Haiti, the option to go to school was very limited because it s very expensive. My father saved up enough money, so we can move to the United States. At the age of three, we came to the U.S. and my little brother Kenley was born in this country. I accomplished my twelve year public education in Stamford, CT. I graduated from Academy of Information Technology Engineering high school in 2013. Throughout high school, I volunteered in the Stamford Hospital for three years. It was a great experience to serve many different individuals. For example, I worked in departments such as Endoscopy, Patient Transportation, Patient Registration, Maternity, Sunshine Team, and the Surgical Weight Loss. Next, I attended a nursing program called Southern Westchester Boces in Harrison, NY on September, 2014. In addition, I was assigned three nursing home locations and for each place I stayed there for eight weeks. I learned nursing skills such as vital signs (pulse, temperature, respirations, and blood pressure); administered medication; performed injections; provided care for tracheostomy, gastrostomy, and wounds. I graduated on June 24, 2014 and it was a ten month program. After graduating from a nursing school, it s a requirement to take the National Council Licensure Examination known as the NCLEX to receive a nursing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Perspectives on China In February of 2012, as I was reviewing the information about the Darden s GEMBA program, specifically the locations of the global residencies, it was hard for me to be excited about going to China. It would be my sixth time visiting the country. At the time, I was hoping for a more unique location, somewhere where I had not been, yet somewhere where, from a business perspective it would be a valid place to go. How about Japan or South Korea, I pondered. But no, it was China, a place that I explored on multiple occasions, and a place I learned to like. To make things worse, the destinations cities where the most obvious: Shanghai and Beijing. What else is out there, that I have not seen and what else I can learn from visiting it again? My ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shanghai welcomed me with a taxi driver who refused to show me his meter readout, hijacked my cell phone until I promised to pay him the outrageous taxi fee (long story culminating in me not paying him the outrageous fee), throwing my suitcase of his trunk and driving off with his trunk up so I could not capture his license plate. Not a bad start, I thought maybe I learn something after all. Tia Zi Feng was everything I expected, crowded, cobble stone streets with many tiny shops, cafes, and art galleries. My host Jamie, who had a New Zealand souvenir store at the bottom of the studio was very welcoming. My first night he invited me to join him and a few fellow Westerners to a Shanghai style restaurant situated in an old local style mansion. The experience was wonderful; and I had a chance to meet some interesting yet very different people; from a yoga /photographer woman from Minnesota, who was just finishing her three year Asian adventure to an English teacher from Ohio, to an software entrepreneur from Oregon. Impressively they were all more or less fluent in Mandarin, which I greeted with envy as my one and a half years of learning the language had been not the most fruitful to say the least. But then it was time to go and meet the GEMBA 13. It was so exciting to see the guys again. The schedule looked intense and I started to think, contrary to my previous assertion, that I may learn something. The China ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Morality Of Inertia Summary The Morality of Inertia by Lionel Trilling is about how Ethan Frome refuses to take action for what he wants due to moral issues. Trilling talks about how miserable is Frome s life. He has this desire to share his life with Mattie, but at the same time he can t leave his marriage with Zeena. Trilling talks about how literature doesn t get along with inertia, and how Wharton creates a story where the main character is experiencing life in death. Throughout the whole story, Frome is always thinking about leaving Zeena to be able to have a future life with Mattie, but he loses momentum all the time. At the end, he does take action and leaves with Mattie, but not for so long or too far because they both ended up living with Zeena anyways. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example maybe when on the phone to a candidate and asking for personal details about their current phone number for example, if someone who wasn t working in the business was in the room you wouldn t repeat the number back to them as the person who isn t relevant could then have that information to use. 2.4 Describe the ... The Joy Luck Club Essay The Joy Luck Club Entry 7 Waverly was going to tell Lindo of her and Rich s engagement, but whenever she mentioned him, Lindo cut her off and began to talk about something else. Waverly was convinced that her mother did not have any good intentions, and that she never saw good in people. Due to this, she was afraid of what her mother will say when she would meet Rich. According to Waverly, she and Rich shared a pure love , which she was afraid her mother would poison. Waverly planned to go to Auntie Suyuan s house with Rich for dinner, knowing that her mother would then invite the two over for dinner to her house, and this would give her mother a chance to get to know and warm up to Rich. • 7. 1984 Literary Analysis In every country, county and city, a government is intact to resolve each community s issues. It is formed to further perfect each society to become a utopia for its citizens, but even within the government itself, obstacles, such as the balance of the state s power, remain. This type of dilemma is demonstrated throughout literature; one example can be recognized in George Orwells 1984. George Orwell uses literary elements to express social issues of the dystopian society in 1984. Many social issues involving social control from the governmentis expressed through the literary element of symbolism. Different recurring symbols in 1984 by George Orwell include the government figure Big Brother, Winston Smith s occupation, and Oceania s language... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The country s language, Newspeak, also symbolizes a form of the social control issue. This language is a digression from the original language Oldspeak, which is closely related to the English language. Newspeak is a gradual regression of Oldspeak because the dictionary for Newspeak is always being revised and shorten. Over time the citizens of Oceania gradually develop a smaller range of vocabulary. Thoughtcrime is opposing the Party in any way or having different beliefs from the Party, and this is a dilemma in Oceania. The only other way for the Party to eliminate thoughtcrime is to narrow the range of thought...make thoughtcrime impossible, because there will be no words in which to express it. Every concept that can ever be needed will be expressed in one word, and make other thoughts inexpressible (52). Therefore there will not be a word to express a certain thought or feeling eliminating individuality and any way for the people of Oceania to know any different. Soon there will be no expression to explicit the strong feelings such as love or even hate. This is a very strong form of social control, but this social issue is recognized by Winston ... With a specific example or two, illustrate how your informal socialization (parents, media, travel, religion, etc.) shaped your sense of individualism collectivism. Living in a family of six which included my grandparents, has always inculcated values in me. Life has always been thinking about others, the family or society of which I am a part. There have been instances like my parents wanted to make a trip to Malaysia for their 25th anniversary but my grandparents and others suggested a celebration with extended family gathering .They chose the latter. I definitely value the traditions my family gave me and at the same time I also respect the fact that I am a vegetarian. Adding to it, decision of being a vegetarian is not just a tradition but also because of animal rights. But yes, it s majorly because that is something our family has been following since beginning and no one has ever been a non vegetarian. If I becoming a non vegetarian will hurt emotions of my parents in any way then I would choose not to do it. (i) Briefly recount the circumstances which called this value into question, and describe how you reacted. I have been living away from home since last 6 years and 2 years in Bangalore was the duration in which I faced this situation the maximum. • 10. The Stranger Of The Photo Is Not Me The Stranger in the Photo is Not Me I ve always felt a strange connection to the stars, one that I have never fully understood. I used to believe that it was simply the night itself that appealed to me. There is something so incredibly compelling about it. It s not the silence, necessarily, but the way that every breath is amplified; it s not so much the darkness, but the way that the stars light it up. There is an unparalleled magic to them, to the way that they swirl and writhe and explode of their own accord. Although the moon will orbit for eternity and the stars will eventually fade into submission, it is the latter that I admire the most. I would rather die at the hands of my own power and light than live infinitely off of the nectar of somebody else s. Perhaps that is why I tried to take my own life mere hours after this photo was taken. I could let the eating disorder, anxiety, and depression that were ravaging my life snatch it out of my hands, I could fight an impossible battle against my own head and begin the long, uncertain road to a seemingly unattainable recovery , or I could simply allow myself to explode. I will be the first to admit that the smile of the girl in this photo (bottom row, far left) looks awfully controlled for someone who was about to explode. I will also be the first to admit that I had every reason to be smiling. I was surrounded by my soccer teammates, who had been my metaphorical sisters since we were four years old and our most ... I believe in times of struggle the theatre is a form of escape for the masses and has been an escape method throughout history. Theatre has continued to live on from the birth of American theatre to modern theatre and continuing on now to the future through the progression of acting, design and technology. To understand the progression of acting, design and technology in theatre we start with the past history, birth of American theatre. It was the visiting actors from England, landing first in Virginia, who laid the foundations of the American theatre, and along English lines that it developed ( Hartnoll 165). The effective district school leader is visionary, culturally competent, and promotes the success for all students utilizing all available resources within the community. ELCC 4.1. Standard Element 4.1 addresses educational improvement of the district by collecting and analyzing data relevant to the educational environment. The ELCC 4.1 was a culmination of assigned readings, coursework and internship activities. There were four internship activities under the course, ELAD 6003 School and Community Relations: Community Relations checklist, Sociological Inventory, Key Communicator s Task Force, and School Website Evaluations and these internship activities were completed in Abu Dhabi, UAE. during the spring 2015 semester. The school leader and I collaborated on the following internship activities in hopes of improving communication among parents and securing community partnerships, i.e. hotels, neighborhood grocery store. While the principal is a visionary school leader, many cultural obstacles prohibit the school from moving forward academically and socially, i.e. Females schools do not have websites The Community Relations Checklist internship activity allowed me to compare the differences of international school community relations and school community relations in the United States. Cost Accouting Systems for John Deere Component Works Management Consultants Report Executive Summary John Deere Component Works (JDCW) has been subject to a number of unsuccessful competitive bids due to the inherent deficiencies of their existing costing system. This has illustrated the importance of obtaining a thorough understanding of costs, and desirability of implementing a superior costing system. This report contains: * A general overview of the problems confronted by JDCW * An analysis of the current standard costing system * An exposition of Activity Based Costing (ABC) * An evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of each system * Recommendations Company Background Deere amp; Company is an iconic American corporation, renowned for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Following this revelation, management attention was directed to the current costing system. Traditional Costing System JDCW employed a traditional standard costing system throughout its operations. This form of costing permeated the industrial era, which was categorised by low overhead costs and the production of a limited variety of goods. Standard costing involves allocating overheads to cost objects using volume based cost drivers, such as machine or labour hours. Albeit easy to implement and understand, this system frequently results in over costing and under costing. JDCW priced their products based on full costs, which included all direct material, labour, overhead and period overhead, using standard costing. Whilst this practice was satisfactory for internal transactions, the inefficiencies were emphasised when JDCW sought to bid for parts against external suppliers. Number of machine hours, direct labour hours and material dollars were used as overhead allocation rates. By restricting the overhead rates to the aforementioned volume based activities, several problems eventuated. The Industrial Engineering department used pre established standard hours for direct labour runtime. Using standard hours produced costing discrepancies, especially because no emphasis was placed on direct materials, overhead and period overhead costs. This was an insufficient method to compare actual and standard percentages. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Two Major Control Theories Travis Hirschi developed two major control theories which are influential in criminology today (Lecture). Hirschi first theory was Social Bond Theory which he explained in his paper Causes in Delinquency, published in 1969 (Lecture). Hirschi criticized his theory and moved the locus of control from the person s position in society to what internally drove the person not to commit crime (Cullen Text, Part VI). In 1990, Hirschi discounted Social Bond Theory and teamed up with Michael Gottfredson in the paper a General Theory of Crime where they explained their new theory, Self Control Theory (Lecture). Though these theories are inherently different they both contributed greatly to the control theory and presented an interesting new alternative... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hirschi stated there were four social bonds that tied the person to conventional ways: attachment, commitment, involvement and belief (Cullen Text, Part VI). Attachment was the person s emotional attachment to others (Cullen Text, Part VI). A person may refrain from a criminal act depending on what he perceives others will think of him after the event. Commitment is the person s investment into their future (Cullen Text, Part18). If they are invested into their future, they may not jeopardize it by committing a crime. Involvement is the person s participation in life events and social activities (Cullen Text, Part18). The person may be too busy to commit a crime. Belief is the person s view of legitimacy of social rules and laws (Cullen Text, Part18). If that person believes in the rules they are less likely to break them. If these bonds are weak or broken then a person is more likely going to commit a crime (Cullen Text, Part18). Hirschi criticized his first theory and saw there were some inherent errors which he readdressed in is second theory, Self Control Theory (Lecture). Key Purpose Behind The Dobb- Frank Act Very often than not there are regulations implemented as a means to dissolve an issue that needs to be resolved as soon as possible and is implemented immediately. However these needed resolutions end up affecting the little man such as community banks. The main purpose behind the Dobb Frank act was to lend a hand to consumers and make the market more financially stable. The majority of commercial banks are in fact community banks and tend to serve in suburban, and rural communities. A huge difference between the larger banks in a metropolitan area and a community bank is the way they make decisions on the customer that come in to obtain a loan. Community banks use a means of relationship banking, which is when the representative of the bank attempt to meet the needs of the customer by attempting to find a means to meet these needs. Finding the best means through financial services with the customer and working with them builds a relationship that might even be for a long term. Larger banks in a metropolitan area are more likely to impose a less relationship minded means of dealing with their customers. More than likely they ll turn to transactional banking. Transactional banks has no input from customers and relies on the facts about the customer s history information, such as credit scores. This type of banking is very affective when dealing with customer s on a wider scale, because this serves as a cheaper option for a wider scale customer base. While this is great ... Importance Of Servant Leadership And Indian Culture Servant Leadership In Indian Culture and Hindu Religion Although servant leadership is often associated with Christianity and assessed in a Biblical context, it is important to recognize that servant leadership is present in other religions and cultural contexts as well. Servant leadership has the capability to exist in any environment where there is humility, selflessness, and a commitment to exhorting and empowering one s followers. Historically, the best servant leaders have come from a variety of eras, cultures, ethnicities, and religions, proving that servant leadership transcends all demographic and religious boundaries and is founded on a core set of beliefs and values. This paper will aim to discuss servant leadership in the context of the Hindu religion and the culture of India, proving that servant leadership promotes unifying people rather than dividing by religious and cultural differences. Servant Leadership in the Indian Culture Culture is to a human collectivity is what personality is to an individual (Hofstede, 2001). By this, Hofstede means that culture aids in identifying a people group in the same way that a personality identifies a person. Essay on 16 PF Personality Test 16 PF Personality Test Resolving the conflict of Reliability vs. Accuracy in the 16 PF test Introduction: For psychologists, one of the more popular theories espoused is the trait approach to personality, or the idea that people have consistent personality characteristics that can be measured and studied (Kalat, 2002, 512). However there are several problems that arise. First, there are significant cross cultural differences, so one set of personality traits for one culture may differ considerably for another. The next problem would concern the creation of a test that could accurately measure these traits. Web. 21 Nov. 2015 One of the most famous stories from William Faulkner, an American writer, was A rose for Emily and which requires some understanding. It is about a relation between South and North, with Miss. Emily representing the decadent South and Homer Barron the rapacious North. Faulkner made the story so glaring and pointed in its effects and solicit a stringent line of interpretation. The title of the story can say a lot about the purpose, but once reading through the story, it can justified the theme of the story. Faulkner s type of writing catches people attention and keeps them reading to the end of the story. The claim that the author is trying to persuade on this argument is completely true because Faulkner made a good job writing the story with atmospheric detail. When I read the story, it can easily catch my attention because of the way he wrote it. Also, The Climax of the story justified the theme of the story. one s sense of the story s limitations can be summed up by saying that finally it calls our attention not to its represented material but to the canny skill with which Faulkner manipulates it. • 26. Rhetorical Analysis Of On Dumpster Diving By Lars Eighner On Dumpster Diving by Lars Eighner is a collective work on the issue of Dumpster Diving, in which Eighner depicts his own adventures as a Diver. His development of the central contention, this way of life is not as it is portrayed or stigmatized, is progressed through Eighner s inclusion of the three persuasive appeals: pathos, logos, and ethos. These three devices coupled with other rhetorical devices provide an alluring argument, in which the reader sees the other side through a new lens, and their opinions on this issue is vastly differed, upon completion of the reading. The first appeal would be pathos, appealing to the audience s emotions by invoking a plethora of feelings from personal examples. For instance, Eighner characterizes the sadness involved in Dumpster Diving as he depicts of pets that are thrown into dumpsters asserting that, Although [he] hope[s] to get off the streets so that Lizbeth [his dog] can have a long and comfortable old age [....W]hen [Lizbeth s] time comes she too will go into a Dumpster (116). This shows how Dumpster Diving is not as effortless and free flowing as it is conventionalized, depicting the sorrow which is invoked. Using pets as an example is quite emotional in itself, as pets are considered close to people s hearts, as well as being relatable. Consequently, the case of the author pondering on his own pet s future, creates a connection between the reader and, thus allows for the pain of the author to be felt by the reader. Another example of pathos is when Eighner introduces himself as a Dumpster Diver and homeless as a result of the negative connotations associated with the phrase Dumpster Diver and homeless, a sense of pity is directed towards Eighner, as the way of living for him is drastically different from contemporary means. One last example of an emotional appeal would be the narrative on the so called can scroungers. Eighner accentuates the fact that these two groups [can scroungers and scavengers] are polar by criticizing that Can scroungers lay waste to everything in their path and [. ...W]ill even go through individual garbage cans, something [Eighner has] never seen a scavenger do (115). A recession is a significant decline in activity across the economy, lasting longer than a few months. It is visible in industrial production, employment, real income and wholesale retail trade. The technical indicator of a recession is two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth as measured by a country s gross domestic product (GDP). Although, the recession of 2001 wasn t a dramatic and horrible recession, it was the end of the longest expansion our country had seen since WWII. The expansion following the recession of 1991 was 10 years up until this recession of 2001. According to him, the new architecture was elementary (Misa, pg. 238), i.e. architecture should be established and then advanced from its rudimentary elements of construction. He said that architecture wasn t a subject that could be understood in a brief manner, it was meant to be studied in detail with a firm and complete knowledge about its function, mass, plane, time, space, light, color and material (Misa, pg. 238). While several stories come to mind, a multitude share one similar to mine, coming from a mixed background into a country that has opened its doors as a land of opportunity and a second home. Those who have built a life of significance have often extended a helping hand to many who did not have the same prospects or success in their own ventures. How One Stupid Tweet Blew Up Justine Sacco s Life During a time when young people do most of their communicating from behind a computer screen, Jon Ronson wrote an article called, How One Stupid Tweet Blew Up Justine Sacco s Life. It is a report consisting of five different stories about people who were publicly humiliated because of their distasteful social media posts. Instead of focusing on the mistakes of the tweeters, Ronson discusses the fairness of their punishment. In order to catch and keep the attention of his young audience, Ronson uses rhetorical devices that will make readers feel emotions like shock and sympathy. Ronson begins the article with the story of Justine Sacco. He opens with an enumeration, a rhetorical device that makes a point with a lot of detail. We see that in today s society we are presented with the idea that women can do anything men can do. Yet in the myth of Pygmalion Galatea and the film My Fair Lady we are set forth to see the different views on the opposite genderand how gender criticism comes to life. Developing feelings is based on how we see the person, throughout we see both characters develop relationships based on how they create this person, each man forms new feelings and perception on women as they sculpt and create, their views on women are changed and the gender criticism views flip. Our society today has become more accepting with equality in gender. We are faced with having the opposite sex come out above us even with the disadvantages of paternity and having more emotions. Women are oppressed by patriarchy economically, politically, socially, and psychologically; patriarchal ideology is the primary means by which they are kept so. (Brizee). Women are seen as less of men due to their disadvantages such as birth and their emotions. Both characters don t really generate feelings for women because they are focused on themselves and are under the impression that women are all the same. Women have more psychological and primarily different logic than men hence the reason they generally make women out to be less than them. Back then women were viewed as less capable and not having the ability to do the things men can do. We are taught that now a days no matter what your gender is you can be anything you want. Feminist criticism concern itself with stereotypical representations of genders. It also may trace the history of relatively unknown or undervalued women writers, potentially earning them their rightful place within the literary canon, and helps create a climate in which women s creativity may be fully realized and appreciated.
