an individual has completed his basic education” -

• Continuing education in nursing consists of systematic learning
experiences designed to enlarge the knowledge and skills of nurses.

CONTINUING NURSING EDUCATION
• Continuing professional education activities have more specific content
applicable to the individuals immediate goals, are generally of shorter duration,
are sponsored by college, universities, health universities, health agencies and
professional organizations, and may be conducted in a variety of settings.
• Continuing education for nurses not only keeps nurses up to date on the latest
advances in care and treatment, but it affords nurses an opportunity to explore
other areas of nursing such as home health or hospice, wound care, pain
management, geriatrics and case management

• Provision for school and nursing faculty involvement in planning and teaching the
CNE courses tends to maintain high educational standards for the program.
• Adequate staff is essential to plan, implement and evaluate a program which is
based on learning needs and which has an impact on the quality of nursing care
provided.
• Responsibilities of the director of CNE are:-
Determination of learning needs of the nurse population.
Development & implementation of a program to meet these needs.
