3. We gathered all of the filming we
did and uploaded it to the Mac
using a memory card reader. We
also used a hard drive to save all of
our progress to ensure that our
work was backed up if the
computer couldn’t contain our work
and shut down without saving.
4. After plugging in the memory card and
the hard drive, I found the application
we used (Final Cut Pro X) on finder.
After opening up the application I
created a new event so we had a
location for all of the footage and the
music video to be stored.
5. After creating the event I then imported all of
the footage I had gathered and imported it to
the event.
After it completed importing, all of the film
that was selected was visible at the top of the
application. This made it easy for me select
which videos I wanted to show up on the
timeline.
6. After uploading all of the footage I then
selected all of the videos I wanted to go in the
timeline for the music video. This was also a
prime time to select and reject certain videos as
due to our research we knew what videos we
wanted in the initial music video.
7. After dragging all of the footage
that I wanted in the music video, I
added the song to the timeline, this
was very beneficial from the start as
it allowed me to see if the videos I
had taken were in sync with the
music I was working with.
8. After blading the videos to the correct
length I was able to layer them on top of
each other, therefore is two videos clashed,
using the disable feature would allow one
to have priority over and be visible. As an
example, pictured left are two shots that
clashed, due to the disable feature being
put on the drumming shot, that allows the
shot below to be visible.
9. For the music video we decided we didn’t want any
sound from filming and noise that would distract the
listener from the song itself, therefore we removed all
audio from the footage we gathered.
We did this by detaching the audio from the selected
video, which then appeared as a new file underneath
the song file. After selecting the new audio file I was
simply able to delete the file thus removing it from
the video completely.
10. I added a lot of effects to this video as
it would be dull and boring without
them, a promotional video needs to
appeal to the TA and I felt adding
effects to enhance the emotions in the
video would certainly do this. For
example I used the earthquake effect
on Emily as I felt it brings out the anger
she is portraying even more in this shot,
the shaking resembles her rage and this
is what I wanted to get across to the TA.
11. A cross dissolve was used in the clip so it
would be synonymous to the song lyrics
“and the days she’s been dull”. The effect on
the clip was also quite muted, which
resembles a dull atmosphere, the location
also had a dull feel as it was derelict. I feel
these were beneficial as they gave the video
a more professional look, it enhanced
emotions in the video and it also gave the
viewer more the think about.
