What is iTunes?
• iTunes is an online store for people who use apple products, TV
Programmes, films, songs and podcasts can be purchased on this
platform. Downloads are available if a connection to the internet is
detected.
Apple introduced iTunes to their products in 2001, it is accessible via
iPad, iPhone, iMac and iPhone. There is also a downloadable alternative
on windows. It was founded by Steve Jobs, the man who also founded
Apple itself.
How it affects consumers
• Songs on iTunes are cheap and affordable so this enables people to
access songs easier, it also reaches out the aspirers and the working
class who don’t have a lot of money, as well students who are the
prime music consumers who also don’t have a huge budget to spend
on music.
• iTunes also has a chart that records the newest songs, most popular
songs in general and the most popular songs in a certain genre. It also
keeps the user up to date with their favourite artist’s latest releases
and podcasts.
• iTunes also has a feature called ‘Smart Playlists’, this filters the
playlists based on the users choice, for example if the user selects
Indie music only Indie music is played and suggested to you through
iTunes.
Audiences
• iTunes can attract huge audience because it contains so much variety
and can settle any taste of film, TV or music as it has every genre
imaginable, however it also needs to be said that technology attracts
a younger target audience as they have a better understanding
compared to older people who weren’t brought up around this
advanced technology. In conclusion I think Apple aim to satisfy
everyone’s needs however they put more effort in to attracting a
younger target audience as it is guaranteed the can attain a younger
audience with the technology that they provide.
