• Homework/Classwork – 20% 
• Laboratory Work – 30% 
• Lecture Notebook-5% of Classwork Grade 
• Lab Notebook – 5% of Laboratory Work Grade

Homework Policy 
• No Late Homework is Accepted 
• There will be approximately 15 homework 
Assignments
Quiz Policy 
• Quizzes will be given every Wednesday 
• Quizzes may not be retaken unless there is an 
excused absence
Laboratory 
• Tuesdays will be laboratory or activity days 
• Lecture on Laboratory Safety to follow
Lab Notebook Setup 
• Either a separate Section or Notebook is 
Required 
• Before each lab, the instructions will be posted 
on the class site, and students will be expected to 
copy down the instructions step by step, as well 
as answer the pre-lab question 
• Entries must be dated 
• Observations must be observed accurately and 
honestly
Lecture Notebook Setup 
• Each entry will be dated 
• Outline Notes as outlined on the powerpoint, or 
in a way that makes sense to you 
• Each Monday when homework is handed in, 
notebooks will also be handed in.
Rube Goldberg Project 
• Decide on what your contraption will do. Some examples are 
putting toothpaste onto a toothbrush, pouring a glass of water, 
or closing a door. – Due Sept 12th 
• Watch some videos to gather ideas – Due Sept 26th 
• Make a list of materials you will need – Due Oct 12th 
• Draw the design and how it will work – Due Oct 24th 
• Collect the materials you need – Due Oct 24th 
• Build the Machine – Due Nov 21st 
• Test 
• Re-build if necessary 
• Test until working properly 
• Once your project is finished, either bring it in to the class to 
demonstrate, or create a video in which your task is 
accomplished. – Due December 1st
Rube Goldberg Project 
• Your Project must include 1 of each of the 
following 
• A lever – like a seesaw 
• A ramp 
• A wheel and axle – like a toy car 
• A pulley – like an elevator

Academic Honesty Policy 
• Plagiarism and Cheating is Not Tolerated 
• It is a Group 2 offense which will end in an 
automatic zero with no makeup and a 1-3 
detentions.
Student Expectations 
• Come to class on time and prepared to learn 
• Turn off Cell phone and put it away before class 
begins 
• A failure to plan is a plan for failure and does not 
constitute an emergency on anyone else’s part. 
• Keep Current with the Material and ASK

Each Day: A Primer 
• Each day will begin with students cataloguing 
the day’s expectations in their notebook with a 
date and bulleted list 
• We will then have a warm-up exercise 
• Lecture and/or relevant activities and examples 
• Evaluation of Main Ideas of the Lecture
A Few Suggestions 
• Make Flashcards 
• Practice Practice Practice 
• Ask questions 
• Utilize all resources 
• Keep track of formulas on a separate sheet of 
construction or cardstock paper 
• Keep a positive attitude

Conceptual Physics Syllabus

  • 5. Grading • Tests - 50% • Homework/Classwork – 20% • Laboratory Work – 30% • Lecture Notebook-5% of Classwork Grade • Lab Notebook – 5% of Laboratory Work Grade • Rube Goldberg contraption– 5% of Test Grade
  • 6. Homework Policy • No Late Homework is Accepted • There will be approximately 15 homework Assignments
  • 7. Quiz Policy • Quizzes will be given every Wednesday • Quizzes may not be retaken unless there is an excused absence
  • 8. Laboratory • Tuesdays will be laboratory or activity days • Lecture on Laboratory Safety to follow
  • 9. Lab Notebook Setup • Either a separate Section or Notebook is Required • Before each lab, the instructions will be posted on the class site, and students will be expected to copy down the instructions step by step, as well as answer the pre-lab question • Entries must be dated • Observations must be observed accurately and honestly
  • 10. Lecture Notebook Setup • Each entry will be dated • Outline Notes as outlined on the powerpoint, or in a way that makes sense to you • Each Monday when homework is handed in, notebooks will also be handed in.
  • 11. Rube Goldberg Project • Decide on what your contraption will do. Some examples are putting toothpaste onto a toothbrush, pouring a glass of water, or closing a door. – Due Sept 12th • Watch some videos to gather ideas – Due Sept 26th • Make a list of materials you will need – Due Oct 12th • Draw the design and how it will work – Due Oct 24th • Collect the materials you need – Due Oct 24th • Build the Machine – Due Nov 21st • Test • Re-build if necessary • Test until working properly • Once your project is finished, either bring it in to the class to demonstrate, or create a video in which your task is accomplished. – Due December 1st

  • 13. Academic Honesty Policy • Plagiarism and Cheating is Not Tolerated • It is a Group 2 offense which will end in an automatic zero with no makeup and a 1-3 detentions.
  • 14. Student Expectations • Come to class on time and prepared to learn • Turn off Cell phone and put it away before class begins • A failure to plan is a plan for failure and does not constitute an emergency on anyone else’s part. • Keep Current with the Material and ASK QUESTIONS if you are having trouble
  • 15. Each Day: A Primer • Each day will begin with students cataloguing the day’s expectations in their notebook with a date and bulleted list • We will then have a warm-up exercise • Lecture and/or relevant activities and examples • Evaluation of Main Ideas of the Lecture
  • 16. A Few Suggestions • Make Flashcards • Practice Practice Practice • Ask questions • Utilize all resources • Keep track of formulas on a separate sheet of construction or cardstock paper • Keep a positive attitude

  1. Note that some of the due dates aren’t there. You need to manage your time so the final due date can be met.
  2. It is important to avoid the appearance and the reality of cheating If you look like you are cheating, you probably are.
  3. If you have questions, you can email me directly to my email, or you can go on my website and write your question on the site. Generally, if you have a question, the odds are that at least one other person does. You may also write me a note or raise your hand in class.
  4. This isn’t a physics quiz, but I do expect you to take it seriously. I will be passing around a survey. I want each of you to fill it out honestly
