5. Operating System software
Operating system software enables the computer hardware to communicate and
operate with other softwares.
Without operating system software a computer is useless.
Examples : Windows (XP, 10, 8), MS DOS, Linux, Unix, Ubuntu, Mac OS, IOS

6. Types of operating system according to number of
users
● Single User Operating System : one user can use operating system at a given
time. Eg: Windows, Ms DOS, Android,IOS..
● Multi User Operating System : Multiple users can use the operating system at
a given time. Used in making server computer. Eg : Unix, Apache, Windows
NT, Novel Net ware, etc.

7. Utility Software
Helps to maintain and repair computer system.
Helps in disk formatting, defragmentation, virus cleaning, unused files cleaning ,
etc.
Examples : Antivirus softwares, Backup Utility, Tune up utility, Disk cleaner, Disk
defragmenter, etc

8. Device Driver Software (DDS)
The are special softwares which helps to function special hardwares that are
attached in the computer externally like : speaker, bluetooth devices- speaker,
mouse, keyboard, pendrive, web camera, microphone, printer, scanner, etc.
Device driver helps in communication between main computer and other
peripheral devices like printer, web cam , etc.
Example : webcam driver, printer driver, dvd driver, bluetooth speaker driver, etc.

9. Language Processor Software
As we know software are made using special types of language called
programming language.
These language processor convert the high level programming language into low
level programming language or machine level languages.
They are : Assembler, Compiler, Interpreter.

10. Application Software
Designed to perform specific tasks like : creating documents, watching videos,
viewing photos, editing photos, etc.
Examples : MS Power point, Ms word, Adobe photoshop, VLC, MP3 Player, Tiktok,
Youtube app, games, etc.

These software are made to perform specific task of an organization or company,
these are designed specially by software programmers on consulting with the
specific organization.
Eg : Banking software, Library system software, Result processing software,
School management software, etc.

13. General or Packaged Software
General softwares ae softwares designed for general public to do some specific
task. Eg : Photo viewer, PDF Reader, Games, VLC media player, Tiktok, facebook
app, etc.
Packaged softwares are a bunched of softwares combined in a single package.
Eg : Word Processing Package : MS Office
Graphics Package : Adobe Graphics Package
Multimedia Package, etc.
