5. INTRODUCTION
Network topology is the arrangement of the elements of a communication network.
Network topology can be used to define or describe the arrangement of various
types of telecommunication networks, including command and control radio
networks, industrial fieldbusses and computer networks.
Network topology is the topological structure of a network and may be depicted
physically or logicallyIt is an application of graph theory, wherein
communicating devices are modeled as nodes and the connections between the
devices are modeled as links or lines between the nodes .Examples of network
topologies are found in local area networks (LAN), a common computer network
installation. A wide variety of physical topologies have been used in LANs,
including ring, bus, mesh , star and ponit to point .

6. WHAT IS
NETWORK
TOPOLOGY ?
Network topology is the way a
network is arranged , including the
physical or logical description of
how links and nodes are set up to
relate to each other .

9. A star network topology is a
topology in which each node
directly connected to a central hub
or server.

Topology

10. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF
STAR TOPOLOGY
โข Single Hub.
โข Allows to manage entire network from single location.
โข Indipendent nodes allow network to continue if one node is down
.
โข Low setup cost .
โข Disable whole system if the central hub disturbed
โข Overall performance is limited .
โข Performance is based on single conectator i.e
hub.

11. BUS TOPOLOGY
Bus topology is a network topology in
which
nodes are connected to a single
cable that call "bus" . Data flows
through this cable .
Fig : Bus
Topology
11
12. ADVANTAGES AND DISANVANTAGES OF
BUS TOPOLOGY
โข Allows device connection via single coaxial or RJ45 cable.
โข Additional cables additional nodes .
โข Cost effective for smaller networks .
โข In bus topology its easy to troubleshooting .
โข Additional nodes slows transmission .
โข Time consuming and expensive to restore
โข If the common cable fail whole system is fail .
โข Sequrity is very low .
12
13. Ring Topology
Ring topology is a network topology in which
nodes are connected and arranged in a circle or
ring . Each device connected with exact two other
nodes .
Fig :Ring Topology
13
14. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGE OF
Ring Topology
โข Additional component do not affect the performance of network.
โข The data transmission is high speedy .
โข Cheap to install and expand .
โข Less costly than a star topology .
โข Failure of single node in network can cause the whole network fail .
โข Troubleshooting is difficult in this network .
โข Less sequre .
14
15. Tree Topology
Ring topology is a network in which a
root node and all other nodes are
connected like branches of tree .
Fig : Tree
Topology
15
16. Advantages And Disadvantage Of
Tree topology
โข It allows more devices to be attached to a single central hub .
โข Easy to add new device in existing network .
โข Error detection and error correction is very easy in tree topology .
โข If the main root or central hub gets fail entire network system is fail .
โข The cost is high because of cabling .
โข If new device are added , it become difficult to reconfigure .
16
17. Mesh Topology
Mesh topology is a network topology where nodes
are directly connected to each other with cables.
There is no central hub.
Fig : Mesh
Topology
17
18. Advantages And Disanvantsges of
Mesh topology
โข Mesh topology is robust .
โข Fault identification an isolation is easy
โข Dedicated link ensure that each connection carry its own data load , eliminating the traffic problem .
โข Provides privacy and sequrity .
โข Huge amount of cabling and I/O ports required .
โข Installation and reconnection is difficult .
18
19. Point- to -Point Topology
Point to point is simple topology that
directly links two nodes and reserve the
entire bandwith of the connection
.Physically point-to-point connections rely
on a cable or wire that connects the two
end point .

21. Conclusion
Networking topology is an important concept in networking which deals with several
topologies, which defines several ways on how several devices can be connected to each
other for exchange of data. There are types of topologies based on different factors.
