In 1969, computers were large mechanical devices that took up entire rooms. Intel invented the first microprocessor chip this year. They designed the 4004 microprocessor for the Busicom calculator. While technology was primitive compared to today, the basic components and processes of computers, such as the fetch-decode-execute cycle, were similar even in the earliest digital devices of the time.
