Globalization And Westernization In Turkey
Has Turkey adopted both Western and Islamic principles? Westernization is the social process of
becoming familiar with or converting to the customs and practices of Western Civilization. It is the
accepting of western ideas in the fields of science, technology, philosophy, and other social
materialistic aspects of life. However, Islam is the submission to the will of God. Unlike
westernization, Islam is a spiritual practice, therefore, has its own unique identity, culture, and
principles of social life. Since the day of independence, Turkey has always aligned itself with the
western world. Only until recently, under the Justice and development party led by Recep Erdogan
Turkey is starting to practice and meddle in the affairs of the Middle East. What has lead Turkey to
dramatically shift its policy? How big of a role has the sense of identity play in this matter? This paper
will argue that although the population of Turkey is predominantly Muslim, it also represents a secular
state with western style democracy. It plays a critical geopolitical role since it is in the center of
Europe and the Middle East. It is also the revival of an identity the Islamist feared had been
overshadowed by the West and the Western culture. Therefore, in today s globalized world, Turkey
plays a vital role in complying both Islamic and western ideals to appeal to both of the civilizations.
Islamists in Turkey are departing from their conventional positions of anti western stance and are

Essay On Companionship Interview
For my interviewee I choose to interview my neighbor and sponsor Mr. Michael T. Cartwright. Mr.
Cartwright graduated from Trevecca Nazarene University in the spring of 1996 with a Bachelor of

The Impact Of Job Enrichment On Motivation And Communication
The following case analysis is derived from an article that examines the realignment of the Health
Information Services (HIS) Departments when new technology or changes have to be implemented.
My case analysis will involve answering four questions. How are the principles of goal setting applied
in the case? How are the principles of job enrichment applied in this case? What were the outcomes of
job enrichment in the HIS Departments? What was the impact of job enrichment on motivation and
communication in the HIS department?
The first thing we will examine if the principle of goal setting and how it is applied is this case. Goals
give an organization a vision and a direction in which to move. Goals setting by organizations can lead

It is not a technique that can be uniformly used throughout an organization or department. In order for
job enrichment to be effective, leaders have to understand the employees that are under them.
Just as there are benefits to using job enrichment, there are also risks associated with it. The benefits
are the desired outcomes that the HIS Department is looking to achieve when implementing such a
technique. Monotony is something that job enrichment can combat because there are added task,
responsibility and accountability. The offset of monotony is believe to be a common motivator;
however, in the HIS Department the addition of more task, more responsibility, and more
accountability can lead to more stress (Layman, 2011). More stress is the result because their chief
complaint is work overload. Another set of common problem that can be combated with job
enrichment is boredom, careless errors, tardiness, absenteeism, and low moral. There are plenty of
risks to balance when trying to offset these problems. One risk is overload which is already a
complaint of many employees. Another risk to balance is the concern of the Human Resources (HR)
Department about pay grade (Layman, 2011). With added task and responsibility comes the question
of a higher pay grade. It is the job of the HR Department to oversee the pay grade of the organization.
An even bigger risk may be a concern about licensing and credentialing. Adding tasks to a job that
requires additional

Refugees From The United States
Refugees in the United States go through the struggles of not being able to communicate in an
effective way because of the language barrier. This barrier makes it harder on them to be able to get a
job, attend school and success academically. This also gives them the feeling of being the others, as
well as a loss of their dignity and culture. Although, refugees go through steps to be able to find a
place, where they can call home, but their struggles is what holding them from having a good life and
an easy life. Consequently, refugees have valuable characteristics, such as: education, language, job,
religion, health and owing a home. As a foreigner, their struggle is exasperated since many of their
valuable characteristics are now liabilities in a different land compounded with new and daunting
cultural differences. Refugees have a multitude of steps to take in the resettlement process. The
following steps, explained by US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants. After leaving their home
country, the refugee registers with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
This agency makes sure that the individual qualifies as a refugee under international law. Once
qualified, one of several agencies can refer the refugee to the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program

Warrior Chief Attendants
The Warrior Chief flanked by Warriors and Attendants is an art piece from the Nigerian state of Benin.
It s a brass artwork made using a process called wax casting which involves creating molds into the
desired shapes and pouring molten metal (in this case brass) into the molds. As the name suggests this
art piece shows a chief with his warriors and attendants. Outside of these obvious details derived from
the title, this art piece is laden with different characteristics of representation and symbolism that
narrate the artist s story behind the artwork.
A close examination of this piece concluded that this artwork is a form of propaganda; which serves
the purpose of showing the power, prestige and authority of a figure. The artist purposefully made the
middle figure the most captivating and attention drawing figure for this reason. As such this papers
focal point of analysis will be studying the different artistic tools the artist used to bring out this
particular form of propaganda.

The elaborate accessories he wears on his hands feet and across his chest not only differentiate him

It is difficult to not notice the chiefs powerful stare and stern facial expression. His eyes and nose sizes
are clearly larger than that of the other figures to make his face more menacing to highlight his
dominance and charge. He is clutching a spear on his left hand symbolizing how he exerts power over
the warriors. The chief does not carry much; he is not as carrying as much as the warriors and
attendants. In one hand he holds a flat fan looking object, whose designs suggest that it is an
ornamental object that possibly displays his prestige and is not a weapon or

Study Of The High Crime Rate
The study of the high crime rate in the city will include a range of research methods. I would indicate
that there is no standard threshold for what constitutes a hot spot as well no clarity about what may be
the best method to identify the area. In research of areas that may appear to be the hot spots in the city
can vary depending on the area was researched. The variance in the research would fall into the unit of
analysis, scale of the map, and the amount of data mapped. Having said that, moving forward I ll
explain the four methods that I will attempt to identify, describe, providing an example, indicate the
relationship among them and lastly indicate which one would be best for identifying the highest crime.
Each research method will be introduced to the same question in this process of (1) descriptive, (2)
exploratory, (3) explanatory, and (4) quantitative research. These research methods will provide an
interactively to provide an understanding of the question presented for the investigation ( Criminology

the most crime to the descriptive research? In the research process, the first method should always be
descriptive. The results of this research attempt to define as well describe the social fact, occurrence,

The Land Ethic By Aldo Leopold
Personifying the Land
We can be ethical only in relation to something we can see, feel, understand, love, or otherwise have
faith in Aldo Leopold, A Sand County Almanac (251)
Aldo Leopold is on the forefather of modern environmentalism. His book, A Sand County Almanac, is
based on the notion of viewing land as a community and as a commodity. In the chapter The Land
Ethic , Leopold invokes a rethinking of our relationships to our world and is based on the principle
that ethics are a process in ecological evolution (238). Leopold describes the stages of ethic evolving
and explains that the rules for socializing were originally defined for human beings. These rules are
expanded upon in the next stage of Ethical Sequence (237 238), describing how humans interact
toward their community. The third stage is the ethics between humans and the land. Upon analyzing
The Land Ethic I have come to the conclusion that in order to have respect and ethic for land, or
anything, one must make a personal connection.
Aldo Leopold laid the foundation for environmental awareness decades ahead of a ecological
conscience (257). There have many pleas to reconnect humanity with nature since the release of
Leopold s cherished book. Intuition and reason tell us that living in harmony with our world is more
than idealistic the future of our planet depends on it. The desire for harmony is not new one. Humans
have long time sought to live in peace. It is genuine feelings of love and

The Mother of Texas
Jane Long, also known as the mother of Texas, is one of the most important historical figures of all

her mother dying just a few short years later. Jane was a tenacious woman, when she set her mind on
doing something she would always follow through with it.
Jane met her husband James, a physician, when he had traveled into Natchez to help as a surgeon at
the battle of New Orleans. They soon fell in love and wanted to get married , but Barbara, Jane s sister

The Green Banana Sparknotes
Donald Batchelder s The Green Banana conveys readers that we create our own center and once
individuals leave that special place we are able to learn more about the special geniuses around us.
When we venture out of that secure and comfortable space, then we gain insight on the world around
us and educates us on new perspectives. Batchelder gains a new perspective on the different cultures
around the world when his car breaks down and needs help. Although, Batchelder puts off his want to
expose his ignorance by wondering what a banana would do to help his car. The way he admits his
ignorance about not understanding why they would use a banana to help him shows that he stays in his
special place and never ventures out of that. Bachelder s ignorance is showing when he expresses his
views on America s higher education . He makes it seem that American s are smarter and better than
the rest of the world, but that changes when he realizes the special potential of the green banana. He is
showing himself as arrogant to prove that most of America would see it as the same way. The green
banana had never been of any use other than as a food item and once he forces himself to go outside of
his special place, he shows the creativity of the various cultures. The village has little to no education
or technological help, they end up having to use other aspects from nature to do that same kind of
work, which is different from Batchelder s norm. This teaches him to not

When people think about air pollution, the things that come to their mind are smog, acid rain, and
other forms of outdoor air pollution. Air Pollution is not a new topic. It is a problem that we have

The Poetry of Denise Levertov
Denise Levertov was a unique poet by intertwining mysterious images in her poetry, often directing
the reader towards themes, such as myth and nature (William Doreski 272). Levertov bases her poetry
on immediate or past events in her life. Her father was a descendant of the founder of the sect Habad
Hasidism. She found asceticism and joy in the physical world, though understanding it in her own way
and making her poems have a religious feeling to them. Her mother introduced her to many Victorian
author s, and Levertov wrote to many famous author s during the time such as T.S Elliot for advice on
her poetry (William Doreski 273). While working as a civilian nurse during WWII, she started writing
her first book on poetry and in 1946 was able to publish one of her first great works, The Double
Image, which was known by having a neo Romantic mood of poetry during the time. Now, her poetry
is characterized by defamiliarizing the domestic and natural world as well as emphasizing the
essentially private way is forced to confront otherness (William Doreski 274). Denise Levertov was
born on October 24,1923 in Ilford, England to a Russian Jewish father (William Doreski 273). Her
father was a descendant of the founder of the sect Habad Hasidism, in which some characteristics of
the sect survive in her poetry finding asceticism and joy in the physical world , although
understanding it from her own terms (William Doreski 273). Levertov did not have much formal

Persian Empire Research Paper
The ancient world was a time of great civilisations and greater rulers, and today it is those of Greece
and Rome that are remembered. But they were not alone in their military conquests and vast empires;
there were many equal to, or perhaps even greater, than them, and it is important not to overlook the
achievements of these peoples who have helped to shape history. The Persian Empire is one such of
these civilisations, rising to prominence in the mid sixth century BCE and enduring for two hundred
years, a small amount of time in which it conquered an impressive amount of territory. At its height, it
controlled a huge swathe of land centred in modern day Iran, stretching as far north as the Russian
border, as far south as Egypt, and as far ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The efficiency of the Persian Empire s rule over a large area inhabited by people of various different
cultures and traditions was one of its most significant achievements. To maintain order, the empire
was split into approximately twenty areas known as satrapies, each ruled by a satrap, generally a local
of the area. This governmental system enabled large scale taxation to take place, as each satrap
collected money from his area and sent it back to the emperor, something which would have been near
impossible without these regional leaders; collection of tax provided a constant flow of money to fund
the Persian Empire and its operations. Persia also maintained cohesion in its empire through
implementation of a common language for use in all government documents, the development of
standardised weights and official coinage, and the introduction of a single set of laws to govern the
empire in its entirety. Perhaps the most notable achievement of the Persians was the Royal Road, a
highway built by Darius I that allowed prompt communication and intelligence gathering, and
stretched approximately three thousand kilometres across the Persian Empire. With fresh messengers
and horses waiting at stations along this road, a message could be delivered in seven days where it
might formerly have taken three months. The organisation of the Empire meant that it remained
unified and connected with the

When her own hair murders Porphyria, Porphyria s lover says he has her love all to himself at last. He

Secondly, I am going to investigate the sentence structure of all three of the poems.
Looking at the sentence structure of First Love , the sentences are very short and simple, I never saw,
so sweet a face, as that I stood before but there are aw few complex sentences within the poem They
spoke as chords do from the string and blood burnt round my heart .
Rhetorical questions are also asked because he wants to find out a lot more about love, as it is his first
time in being in love. Are flowers the winters choice? Is loves bed always snow? are only a few

Gdp Research
GDP Research Paper The definition of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) defines aggregate output as the
dollar value of all final goods and services produced within the borders of a country during a specific
period of time, typically a year, while the real GDP is the GDP that has been deflated or inflated to
reflect changes in the price level (McConnell, C. (2011). Macroeconomics [VitalSouce bookshelf

BEA, the growth of real GDP decreased one percent in the first quarter of 2014, in the fourth quarter
of 2013, the growth of real GDP increased two point six percent (News Release: Gross Domestic

In contrast, the consumer spending has notably increased by health care and home utilities. As far as I
am concerned, during the duration of this year, the growth of real GDP would probably go up and
reach almost three percent at the second quarter, then go down a little bit at about two percent in the
third quarter but it will still be positive, finally it will go up back again with a four percent growth at
the last quarter of this year. There are two ways that would case GDP increase, the first way is having
more people working, which means lack of employees, the reason could be the establishing of new
companies and new organizations; The second way is having people work more efficiently, under this
circumstance, the reason that causes a rising GDP could be the update of technology and the new tools
or materials. What is more, government may also interposes. So why the growth of GDP of the third
quarter will decrease as compared to the second quarter? One of the most important reason is the fall
in purchasing power, which is called the wealth effect , when prices rise and supply of money is
constant, the real GDP will decrease (Green, J. (2011, May 18). Reasons for a Decrease in Real GDP.

Morals And Values In Everyday Use By Alice Walker
Historically, values and beliefs are ascribed to people depending on their family s heritage. Most
religious people are religious because they were brought up in a home that believed in a particular
religion. There are some scholars that have been taught by the best schools and teachers due to their
family having a grand educational background. Even though all individuals are different in their own
right, a family normally holds the same beliefs and values as one another. Morals and values are
traditionally passed down through generations, however, there are situations where social influences
can play a role in deciding a person s principals. Family members that are influenced by society rather
than their families can easily become the outliers of the bunch. In Everyday Use , Alice Walker
demonstrates how social differences such as religion, education, and status between family members
can cause a disconnection within the family. Dee s social change in religion causes a disconnection
between the family. Walker makes it evident in the story that Mama is a Christian when she describes
a feeling that she has like when I m in church and the spirit of God touches me... (499). One could
assume that both Dee and Maggie were brought up as Christians along with Mama. On her visit back
home, Dee tells her mother to call her Wangero instead of Dee and uses terms such as Wa su zo Tean o
and Asalamalakum which signifies that she has adopted the Muslim religion. She also brings a friend
along with her who has adopted the Muslim religion as well. The story portrays Mama to seem as
though she has no interest in Dee s new name, and David Cowart explains this by stating She [Mama]
tries to have it both ways, referring to her daughter now by one name, now by the other, now by
parenthetically hybridized combinations of both (171). Mama named Dee after a family member, so
when Dee changed her name to something else, a disconnection between her and the family arose.
Another social difference Walker uses to illustrate a disconnection within the family is education.
Mama only has second grade education due to her school burning down and never getting rebuilt.
Mama explains how Maggie has a hard time reading and knows

The Art Of Technology And Schools Essay
The Art of Technology in Schools
All types of technology are becoming more prevalent everywhere. Everyone has a tablet,
laptop, smart phone, iPad or some type of technology in this day and age. It seems as if kids are
gaining more access to these technologies because of their schools. In schools students are being
given technology for homework and online textbooks now. Students are also getting exposure to
technology as teaching aids in schools as well. Many people believe that technology in class
rooms is a recipe for disaster. Students will just be distracted and not use the technology what it
is meant for. While there are disadvantages to the technology within schools as teaching aids and
free use technology for students; there are many advantages to these technologies, and ultimately
technology is very beneficial for students and teachers.
On the surface technology in the classroom as free use is just asking for distractions
during class. During lecture students are going to be on social media, YouTube, playing games,
or listening to music. As technology being a distraction is just one of the many disadvantages,
this is the biggest issue. In an article written by Kate Bane talking about technology being a
distraction she states:
And that lack of self discipline can cause a dip in student grades. Technology
often aids in classroom discussions and makes for faster note taking, but
sometimes the temptation to check email and social media during class does

Frankenstein Byronic Hero Quotes
The Byronic hero as presented in Lord Byron s Manfred, is a protagonist who has traits, including: a
troubled background, high self esteem, isolation from society, an exaggerated sense of independence,
and genuine guilt. All of these traits Manfred bears, and Victor shares in a differing form. The
differences between Manfred and Victor begin with their feelings of guilt and continue through the
amount of control they give up over themselves. The guilt of Victor is false when compared with that
of Manfred, and Victor relinquishes some of his autonomy to the monster in Frankenstein, in contrast
to Manfred s steadfast hold of complete self government. These changes, seen in Victor s personality,
lead to a critique of the Byronic hero in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Equally important is the high esteem Manfred and Victor have regarding themselves. This can be seen
throughout Frankenstein in Victor s narration of his life before the monster (cite), and the pity he often
expresses for himself Quote . Manfred s self regard is seen in the dialogues the he shares with the
Chamois hunter, QUOTE and the way he relates himself to other humans, Though I wore the form,/ I
had no sympathy with breathing flesh (Manfred, Act 2, Line 56 57). Thirdly, a burdening ordeal,
which is self inflicted, cause great suffering to the Byronic hero. Victor often states he struggles more
than a human possibly could. None ever conceived of the misery that I then endured (Frankenstein,
1818, Page 110). Manfred shares these feelings, stating, no human could carry the burden that he does
(cite). This leads into the immense guilt a Byronic hero feels, though the guilt must be genuine as is
seen in Manfred. The concluding trait is the self governing power a Byronic hero wishes to maintain
over themselves, an example as, seen in Manfred is when Manfred is confronting the demons of his
death (cite), while extreme, this helps translate the believability of the esteem a Byronic hero holds of
themselves to an audience. Throughout Manfred, Manfred refuses to give away any power he retains
over himself. Even at times when relinquishing some of this power would aid him in alleviating his
suffering,

The three essential properties of every material are these:
1. What kind of atom makes up that material? 2. How are the atoms in the material arranged? 3. How
are the atoms in the material bonded together? (Trefil, p. 239)
Atoms make up everything we can see, therefore every material, and atoms have very different

Depending on the material used in the doping, a positive semiconductor (p type) or a negative
semiconductor (n type) can be made. These types are charged positively or negatively, and this
property can be used in computers. A semiconductor made up of a sandwiched n type layer between
two p type layers forms two p to n interfaces, called p n junctions, and these junctions allow
semiconductors known as transistors to act like electrical switches. This property is just what
computers needed, and has been the reason behind the amazing leap in technical capabilities we have
seen in the past few decades in computers (Trefil, p. 243 50). These transistors are then made into
extremely complex groupings and systems that number into the hundreds of thousands, within what is
called an integrated circuit. This means that all those various connections making up various electrical
circuits with multitudes of functions are integrated together. The integrated circuit is then put into a
component that can be used in a computer, called a microchip, which houses the integrated circuit.
With the minute size of these devices that has been achieved today, the density of microchips has shot
up, making computers more and more complex, as well as faster by utilizing some parallel computing
with the integrated circuits operating simultaneously. These computing devices are found inside your
car, making problem

1950s Popular Culture
When World War II ended most countries began to progress and prosper. Of these many countries, the
United States was ready to take on new challenges that lied ahead and eventually become one of the
most powerful countries on Earth. Popular Culture and Mass Media had a tremendous impact on
people s lives during the 1950 s which shaped the way that the United States is today. Popular culture
and mass media affected the television, the average American family, teenagers, and people involved
in the red scare. During the 1950 s the television was making its way into almost everyone s life. The
television was not very popular at first until the price went down and more people purchased it for
their homes (McCormack 1). One source says, By 1962 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The television had a remarkable role in the 1952 election, which was Dwight D. Eisenhower against
Adlai E. Stevenson (Parker 1). For example Richard Nixon, Dwight D. Eisenhower s vice president,
was accused of mishandling funds, but he was able to cover up his mistakes by giving a televised
speech that shifted the focus away from his mistake to his dog Checkers (Parker 1). This allowed for
Richard Nixon to easily reach out to the majority of voters and convince them that they should still
vote for Eisenhower. Another example of the usage of television in the 1952 election was the tactic of
the candidates campaigning with their wives (Parker 1). Joel Parker writes, both Eisenhower and
Nixon campaigned very visibly with their wives ... while Stevenson was vulnerable on this front due
to his status as a divorcé (Parker 1). Eisenhower and Nixon both used this advantage to campaign in a
more family friendly style which could be visible almost every time they appeared on television
(Parker 1). This intelligent approach that Eisenhower and Nixon took on television ultimately led to
Eisenhower becoming the 34th president of the United

hygienist goes over your medical history, taking notes about any heart problems, diabetes, past

Registration Of Sex Offenders Is Mandatory Under The Sex...
Topic 1
Registration of sex offenders is mandatory under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act
(SORNA). It provides the general qualifications of one to be registered as a sex offender. It requires
registered sex offenders to give updated information on their addresses, place of work or school and to
make physical appearances at legible offices to verify the updates. SORNA determines the information
that a registered sex offender should submit and makes it available to the public (SMART).
The constitution of Massachusetts is a subordinate to the constitution of United States, as would any
other state s constitution be. It is therefore mandated to register sex offenders within its borders. The
presence of decentralized statutes in the different states however results to different regulations on
registration of sex offenders among many other laws. The constitution of Massachusetts abundantly
outlines what is considered as sexual crimes and offenses. Not all of them, however, require their
perpetuators to register as sexual offenders. Some examples of the major crimes that would mandate
registration are such as rape, assault with the aim of committing rape, kidnapping a child and
introducing a minor to prostitution. The rest of the crimes mandated for registration are further listed
an outlined on http://www.mass.gov/eopss/crime prev personal sfty/sex offenders/information for sex

job at an all boys preparatory school, Welton. While here Mr. Keating introduces many new concepts
to the boys that they normally don t learn at the school. Throughout this movie, the life concept that
Mr. Keating teaches the boys that sticks with them the most is Carpe Diem or seize the day . He

boys then have to share it to the class. When Mr. Keating asks Todd to present his poem, he claims to

Dunham s Use Of Fragmentation In Dance
I d hate to sound like I m merely repeating my discussion post from last week, but I really have hung
onto the idea of injecting purpose into absences. For that reason, I don t think it s really a surprise that
fragmentation as art is what really stuck with me. Fragmentation, while not the same thing as absence
at all, consists of the same attempt at sewing together what is and is not apparent. I m still trying to
come to grips with it, as these topics feel more abstract than tangible to me, but Dunham s use of
fragmentation in dance has helped tremendously.

Essay about The Insanity Defense
Each state, and the District of Columbia, has its own statute outlining the standard for determining
whether a defendant is legally insane, therefore not responsible, at the time the crime is committed.
An insanity defense is based on the theory that most people can choose to follow the law; but a few
select persons cannot be held accountable because mental disease or disability deprives them of the
ability to make a rational / voluntary choice. Such individuals need special treatment as opposed to
prison; punishment is not likely to deter future antisocial conduct of these mentally diseased
individuals. Retrieved on 5/25/2010 from

After advances in the world of psychiatry, new interests in the field of psychology, new medications
thought to cure mental disease, and much frustration with the M Naghten Rule, the courts adopted a
new standard The Durham Test. The test provided that:
A person was not criminally responsible if the unlawful act was a product of mental disease or defect.
A jury was required to answer two questions: (1) did the defendant have a mental disease or defect?
and (2) if so, was the disease or defect the reason for the unlawful act? Both of the answers had to be
yes to return a verdict of not guilty by reason of insanity. The test was a recognition of that mental
illness was a disease that could be treated and possibly cured. Retrieved on 5/25/2010 from

In 1962, due to much criticism of the various tests for the insanity defense, the American Law Institute
(ALI) designed a new test that requires that the mental disease or defect be a mental diagnosis. The
penal code test is much broader than the M Naghten Rule and the Irresistible Impulse test. The
American Law Institute s Model Penal Code Test states:

  • 2. Globalization And Westernization In Turkey Has Turkey adopted both Western and Islamic principles? Westernization is the social process of becoming familiar with or converting to the customs and practices of Western Civilization. It is the accepting of western ideas in the fields of science, technology, philosophy, and other social materialistic aspects of life. However, Islam is the submission to the will of God. Unlike westernization, Islam is a spiritual practice, therefore, has its own unique identity, culture, and principles of social life. Since the day of independence, Turkey has always aligned itself with the western world. Only until recently, under the Justice and development party led by Recep Erdogan Turkey is starting to practice and meddle in the affairs of the Middle East. What has lead Turkey to dramatically shift its policy? How big of a role has the sense of identity play in this matter? This paper will argue that although the population of Turkey is predominantly Muslim, it also represents a secular state with western style democracy. It plays a critical geopolitical role since it is in the center of Europe and the Middle East. It is also the revival of an identity the Islamist feared had been overshadowed by the West and the Western culture. Therefore, in today s globalized world, Turkey plays a vital role in complying both Islamic and western ideals to appeal to both of the civilizations. Islamists in Turkey are departing from their conventional positions of anti western stance and are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Impact Of Job Enrichment On Motivation And Communication The following case analysis is derived from an article that examines the realignment of the Health Information Services (HIS) Departments when new technology or changes have to be implemented. My case analysis will involve answering four questions. How are the principles of goal setting applied in the case? How are the principles of job enrichment applied in this case? What were the outcomes of job enrichment in the HIS Departments? What was the impact of job enrichment on motivation and communication in the HIS department? The first thing we will examine if the principle of goal setting and how it is applied is this case. Goals give an organization a vision and a direction in which to move. Goals setting by organizations can lead ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is not a technique that can be uniformly used throughout an organization or department. In order for job enrichment to be effective, leaders have to understand the employees that are under them. Just as there are benefits to using job enrichment, there are also risks associated with it. The benefits are the desired outcomes that the HIS Department is looking to achieve when implementing such a technique. Monotony is something that job enrichment can combat because there are added task, responsibility and accountability. The offset of monotony is believe to be a common motivator; however, in the HIS Department the addition of more task, more responsibility, and more accountability can lead to more stress (Layman, 2011). More stress is the result because their chief complaint is work overload. Another set of common problem that can be combated with job enrichment is boredom, careless errors, tardiness, absenteeism, and low moral. There are plenty of risks to balance when trying to offset these problems. One risk is overload which is already a complaint of many employees. Another risk to balance is the concern of the Human Resources (HR) Department about pay grade (Layman, 2011). With added task and responsibility comes the question of a higher pay grade. It is the job of the HR Department to oversee the pay grade of the organization. An even bigger risk may be a concern about licensing and credentialing. Adding tasks to a job that requires additional ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Refugees From The United States Refugees in the United States go through the struggles of not being able to communicate in an effective way because of the language barrier. This barrier makes it harder on them to be able to get a job, attend school and success academically. This also gives them the feeling of being the others, as well as a loss of their dignity and culture. Although, refugees go through steps to be able to find a place, where they can call home, but their struggles is what holding them from having a good life and an easy life. Consequently, refugees have valuable characteristics, such as: education, language, job, religion, health and owing a home. As a foreigner, their struggle is exasperated since many of their valuable characteristics are now liabilities in a different land compounded with new and daunting cultural differences. Refugees have a multitude of steps to take in the resettlement process. The following steps, explained by US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants. • 6. Warrior Chief Attendants The Warrior Chief flanked by Warriors and Attendants is an art piece from the Nigerian state of Benin. It s a brass artwork made using a process called wax casting which involves creating molds into the desired shapes and pouring molten metal (in this case brass) into the molds. As the name suggests this art piece shows a chief with his warriors and attendants. Outside of these obvious details derived from the title, this art piece is laden with different characteristics of representation and symbolism that narrate the artist s story behind the artwork. A close examination of this piece concluded that this artwork is a form of propaganda; which serves the purpose of showing the power, prestige and authority of a figure. The artist purposefully made the middle figure the most captivating and attention drawing figure for this reason. As such this papers focal point of analysis will be studying the different artistic tools the artist used to bring out this particular form of propaganda. Looking at the artwork from a ... His eyes and nose sizes are clearly larger than that of the other figures to make his face more menacing to highlight his dominance and charge. He is clutching a spear on his left hand symbolizing how he exerts power over the warriors. The chief does not carry much; he is not as carrying as much as the warriors and attendants. I would indicate that there is no standard threshold for what constitutes a hot spot as well no clarity about what may be the best method to identify the area. In research of areas that may appear to be the hot spots in the city can vary depending on the area was researched. The variance in the research would fall into the unit of analysis, scale of the map, and the amount of data mapped. Having said that, moving forward I ll explain the four methods that I will attempt to identify, describe, providing an example, indicate the relationship among them and lastly indicate which one would be best for identifying the highest crime. Each research method will be introduced to the same question in this process of (1) descriptive, (2) exploratory, (3) explanatory, and (4) quantitative research. • 8. The Land Ethic By Aldo Leopold Personifying the Land We can be ethical only in relation to something we can see, feel, understand, love, or otherwise have faith in Aldo Leopold, A Sand County Almanac (251) Aldo Leopold is on the forefather of modern environmentalism. His book, A Sand County Almanac, is based on the notion of viewing land as a community and as a commodity. In the chapter The Land Ethic , Leopold invokes a rethinking of our relationships to our world and is based on the principle that ethics are a process in ecological evolution (238). Leopold describes the stages of ethic evolving and explains that the rules for socializing were originally defined for human beings. These rules are expanded upon in the next stage of Ethical Sequence (237 238), describing how humans interact toward their community. The third stage is the ethics between humans and the land. Upon analyzing The Land Ethic I have come to the conclusion that in order to have respect and ethic for land, or anything, one must make a personal connection. Aldo Leopold laid the foundation for environmental awareness decades ahead of a ecological conscience (257). There have many pleas to reconnect humanity with nature since the release of Leopold s cherished book. Intuition and reason tell us that living in harmony with our world is more than idealistic the future of our planet depends on it. The desire for harmony is not new one. • 10. The Green Banana Sparknotes Donald Batchelder s The Green Banana conveys readers that we create our own center and once individuals leave that special place we are able to learn more about the special geniuses around us. When we venture out of that secure and comfortable space, then we gain insight on the world around us and educates us on new perspectives. Batchelder gains a new perspective on the different cultures around the world when his car breaks down and needs help. Although, Batchelder puts off his want to expose his ignorance by wondering what a banana would do to help his car. The way he admits his ignorance about not understanding why they would use a banana to help him shows that he stays in his special place and never ventures out of that. Bachelder s ignorance is showing when he expresses his views on America s higher education . He makes it seem that American s are smarter and better than the rest of the world, but that changes when he realizes the special potential of the green banana. He is showing himself as arrogant to prove that most of America would see it as the same way. The green banana had never been of any use other than as a food item and once he forces himself to go outside of his special place, he shows the creativity of the various cultures. The village has little to no education or technological help, they end up having to use other aspects from nature to do that same kind of work, which is different from Batchelder s norm. The Poetry of Denise Levertov Denise Levertov was a unique poet by intertwining mysterious images in her poetry, often directing the reader towards themes, such as myth and nature (William Doreski 272). Levertov bases her poetry on immediate or past events in her life. Her father was a descendant of the founder of the sect Habad Hasidism. She found asceticism and joy in the physical world, though understanding it in her own way and making her poems have a religious feeling to them. Her mother introduced her to many Victorian author s, and Levertov wrote to many famous author s during the time such as T.S Elliot for advice on her poetry (William Doreski 273). While working as a civilian nurse during WWII, she started writing her first book on poetry and in 1946 was able to publish one of her first great works, The Double Image, which was known by having a neo Romantic mood of poetry during the time. Now, her poetry is characterized by defamiliarizing the domestic and natural world as well as emphasizing the essentially private way is forced to confront otherness (William Doreski 274). But they were not alone in their military conquests and vast empires; there were many equal to, or perhaps even greater, than them, and it is important not to overlook the achievements of these peoples who have helped to shape history. The Persian Empire is one such of these civilisations, rising to prominence in the mid sixth century BCE and enduring for two hundred years, a small amount of time in which it conquered an impressive amount of territory. At its height, it controlled a huge swathe of land centred in modern day Iran, stretching as far north as the Russian border, as far south as Egypt, and as far ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The efficiency of the Persian Empire s rule over a large area inhabited by people of various different cultures and traditions was one of its most significant achievements. To maintain order, the empire was split into approximately twenty areas known as satrapies, each ruled by a satrap, generally a local of the area. This governmental system enabled large scale taxation to take place, as each satrap collected money from his area and sent it back to the emperor, something which would have been near impossible without these regional leaders; collection of tax provided a constant flow of money to fund the Persian Empire and its operations. Persia also maintained cohesion in its empire through implementation of a common language for use in all government documents, the development of standardised weights and official coinage, and the introduction of a single set of laws to govern the empire in its entirety. Perhaps the most notable achievement of the Persians was the Royal Road, a highway built by Darius I that allowed prompt communication and intelligence gathering, and stretched approximately three thousand kilometres across the Persian Empire. With fresh messengers and horses waiting at stations along this road, a message could be delivered in seven days where it might formerly have taken three months. As far as I am concerned, during the duration of this year, the growth of real GDP would probably go up and reach almost three percent at the second quarter, then go down a little bit at about two percent in the third quarter but it will still be positive, finally it will go up back again with a four percent growth at the last quarter of this year. There are two ways that would case GDP increase, the first way is having more people working, which means lack of employees, the reason could be the establishing of new companies and new organizations; The second way is having people work more efficiently, under this circumstance, the reason that causes a rising GDP could be the update of technology and the new tools or materials. What is more, government may also interposes. So why the growth of GDP of the third quarter will decrease as compared to the second quarter? One of the most important reason is the fall in purchasing power, which is called the wealth effect , when prices rise and supply of money is constant, the real GDP will decrease (Green, J. • 24. Morals And Values In Everyday Use By Alice Walker Historically, values and beliefs are ascribed to people depending on their family s heritage. Most religious people are religious because they were brought up in a home that believed in a particular religion. There are some scholars that have been taught by the best schools and teachers due to their family having a grand educational background. Even though all individuals are different in their own right, a family normally holds the same beliefs and values as one another. Morals and values are traditionally passed down through generations, however, there are situations where social influences can play a role in deciding a person s principals. Family members that are influenced by society rather than their families can easily become the outliers of the bunch. In Everyday Use , Alice Walker demonstrates how social differences such as religion, education, and status between family members can cause a disconnection within the family. Dee s social change in religion causes a disconnection between the family. Walker makes it evident in the story that Mama is a Christian when she describes a feeling that she has like when I m in church and the spirit of God touches me... (499). One could assume that both Dee and Maggie were brought up as Christians along with Mama. On her visit back home, Dee tells her mother to call her Wangero instead of Dee and uses terms such as Wa su zo Tean o and Asalamalakum which signifies that she has adopted the Muslim religion. She also brings a friend along with her who has adopted the Muslim religion as well. The story portrays Mama to seem as though she has no interest in Dee s new name, and David Cowart explains this by stating She [Mama] tries to have it both ways, referring to her daughter now by one name, now by the other, now by parenthetically hybridized combinations of both (171). Mama named Dee after a family member, so when Dee changed her name to something else, a disconnection between her and the family arose. Another social difference Walker uses to illustrate a disconnection within the family is education. Mama only has second grade education due to her school burning down and never getting rebuilt. Thirdly, a burdening ordeal, which is self inflicted, cause great suffering to the Byronic hero. Victor often states he struggles more than a human possibly could. The concluding trait is the self governing power a Byronic hero wishes to maintain over themselves, an example as, seen in Manfred is when Manfred is confronting the demons of his death (cite), while extreme, this helps translate the believability of the esteem a Byronic hero holds of themselves to an audience.
