Comparison Of Prime Lenses And Zoom Lens
Best lenses for portrait photography In any type of photography, whether portraiture, landscape
cityscape or any other, the lens is usually the most important part of your kit. Most will probably
agree that selecting the perfect lens depends essentially on each photographer's personal taste, needs,
and budget. Below we have collected some thoughts about differences of various types of lenses.
Prime Lenses vs Zoom Lenses A prime lens has a fixed focal length, while a zoom lens covers a
range of focal lengths. Zoom lenses are often more expensive as they contain more elements.
Because prime lenses are optimized for their fixed focal length and there is less light distorting
elements used, they often produce higher quality images than a zoom

The absorption coefficient decides how far into a material, the light of a particular wavelength can
penetrate before it is absorbed.
The photons that have an energy above the band gap, depends on the wavelength and its absorption
coefficient is not constant. The likelihood of retaining a photon relies on upon the probability of
having a photon and an electron connect so as to move starting with one energy band then onto the
next. The absorption is relatively low for photons with energy very close to that of the band gap, as
only those electrons directly at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because dn/dω and dε'/dω have the same sign, the index of refraction decreases with frequency in a
spectral region of anomalous dispersion. Anomalous dispersion can be observed experimentally if
the substance is not too opaque at the resonance frequency. E.g. certain dyes have absorption bands
in the visible region of the spectrum and exhibit anomalous dispersion in the region of these bands.
Prisms doped with these dyes produce a spectrum that is reversed, i.e. the longer wavelengths are
refracted more than the shorter wavelengths. Aperture
A device that controls the amount of light admitted through an opening. In photography and digital
photography, aperture is the unit of measurement that defines the size of the opening in the lens that
can be adjusted to control the amount of light reaching the film or digital sensor. The size of the
aperture is measured in F–stop. Aspherical
Aspherical lenses are lenses with complex curved surfaces, such as where the radius of curvature
changes according to distance from the optical axis. It offers excellent aberration correction
performance, which provides superior resolution, even with compact optics composed of a small
number of elements.

The Little Fugitive Movie Meaning
The Little Fugitive is a movie made by Morris Engel in 1953. This movie came out during the New
Wave and right before the French New Wave. During this time directors use what was going on in
their day to day lives to fuel the making of the movie. Morris Engel used a cheap handheld camera
causing some scenes to be a little shaky and unsteady. Since colored film was not a thing, the film is
in black and white causing a lot of the scenes to have hard lighting. The implicit meaning of the
movie is that growing up in this time period children are confused about what they want to be or
what they should be when they grow up. This movie came right after the Second World War. Most
of the father figures have left and gone to world during this time, where they most likely have been
killed. This leaves the sons of the family confused and lost. The mother makes a comment to Lennie
telling him how he has to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They will fuss and fight but when one goes missing they will do anything and everything in their
power to get them back, especially if their butts are on the line. Being the older sibling is never easy,
you have to sacrifice things, your time and even friends. Lennie, Joey's older brother, allows his
friend Harry to concoct a joke that is supposed to scare Joey. It goes wrong and he sees that they
went too far when Joey goes missing. Lennie blames Harry and they get into a fight. This is where
the saying blood is thicker than water comes into play. Also, in the explicit meaning we see that the
young sibling usually looks up to the older sibling and may want to be just like them. The scene
where they are playing baseball is a good example of part of the explicit meaning. Joey wants to
play with Lennie and his friends, but is not welcomed because they feel like he is too young. The
fact that Lennie did not want Joey to go to Coney Island with his friend is another way to show their

How Can Photographers Use A Polarizing Filter?
Photographers often use polarizing filters to improve the appearance of the images they capture.
With digital cameras many filters are no longer necessary and do not always work correctly. There is
one filter, however, that is the most often used filter, and it is considered a necessity to a landscape
photographer. Whether using a digital or a film camera a polarizing filter will increase color and
eliminate reflections in your images.
To unlock the secret of the polarizing filter, you must use the filter correctly.
To use your filter, find the correct size filter to fit the lens you are currently using. (a 55mm
polarizer for a 55mm lens etc). Secondly, screw the filter onto the front end of the lens (nearest the
subject). After the filter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, you must be very careful on a low light day as a filter can make your images too dark. A
polarizer will cut the amount of light reaching your film or sensor. To counteract the decreased light
reaching the sensor or film, open the aperture or slow your shutter speed to compensate.
Even though using a polarizing filter has many benefits, which far outweigh the pitfalls, there are
several pitfalls of using a polarizing filter. Most of the pitfalls can be avoided with a bit of
knowledge.
The first thing one needs to know about a polarizing filter is that there are 2 different types. One is
the linear polarizing filter the other is the circular polarizing filter. A circular or a linear filter will do
exactly the same thing for your images; enhance them. To compare them, the circular filter is more
expensive and the linear filter may not be the best choice for most cameras that use auto focus.
A linear filter will often ruin the performance of auto focus; the camera is unable to transform the
information correctly coming from the filter. A circular polarizing filter has an added layer which
scrambles the filtered light coming from the polarizer and the camera is able to read the information

Process Analysis Essay On Photography
A beautiful photograph takes some skill behind the lens, but it takes a little skill in front of it, too. In
order for you to have excellent results, the photographer and the model need to have enough
chemistry. Also, one thing that you shouldn't leave behind is confidence.
Choosing Clothes
When choosing your clothes neutral colors look best. Leave bright colors, crazy patterns and
horizontal stripes in the closet. Check your face in the mirror.
Do you have any pimples or scars you could cover or an oily skin that needs powdering? Could your
eyes use some drops to clear up redness? Are your eyebrows trimmed and neat? Remember, if you
wear make–up, colors will look more intense in photos especially on black and white film. Outdoor

Keep your posture erect but not overly posed. Face, face
Turn your head two–thirds to one side or other for slimming effect on your face. Also, if you can,
avoid wide–angle lenses, which will widen the appearance of your face. Red–eye
Look at a light source, like a lamp or light for a few moments. I reduces the size of your pupils and
the possibility of red eye. However of all the lights you can look at, never look directly at one
source, the sun. No blinking
Just before the picture is taken, close your eyes. And have the photographer count to tree. This is the
best way to prevent blinking from ruining shots. Happy thoughts, not cheese
The last thing and probably most important of the picture is your smile. Saying things like cheese,
forces a fake grin and makes you look like a newscaster for a local politician. Instead, think of a
happy memory that will bring a more natural and happy look. Bring that splendid photos to

Wide Angle Len Techniques
As a professional photographer, I can have a truth unit say that sometimes I can not see trees for
trees and fixed the next generation of a new lens with a faster "it" and "it" and for a few weeks he

sometimes you have to use what you have and do not apologize that you will not get the hit but if
you are the new "X" you want! When I travel, I can not get all the tools I want: I do not match the
size of the small baggage requirements currently used by airlines. I can never face this every day.
But overall, this might be good because you are trying to think about what to take, and more
importantly, what you can do without. I had times when I photograph the landscape in the middle of

Camera Angles In Edward Scissorhands
Camera techniques is a very general aspect of cinema that covers all movements, lens', angles, and
shot types a camera can ascribe to. For example, the camera angle can establish the mood and tone
of a sequence, with the application of high camera angles depicting characters as exposed.
Furthermore, camera movement comprises of zooming, panning, tilting, and tracking as a way of
producing emotion and compelling viewers. Camera lens' spans from telephoto to wide angle and
gives to the tone and appearance of the movie. Finally, shot types can include long shot, extra–long
shot, close up, extra close up, and point of view, and form circumstance of the characters in their
settings amid that moment in the plot. In Edward Scissorhands, director Tim Burton relies upon a
bevy of different camera angles to capture Edward as an assailable protagonist, alone and existing as
separate from community.
Tim Burton uses creative and sometimes cramped camera angles to convey the primary concepts of
aloneness and self–discovery, in addition to augmenting the veiled themes of societal homogeneity
and discrimination, to the audience. This perception is suggested all through the movie through the
director's use of high–angle panoramic shots of the unvarying suburbia and long–shots of ... Show

convey how much Edward stands apart from other people. There is a point of view shot of Peg

However, Scissorhands proceeds to frown because Peg herself is not content. Having these point of
view shots with Edward staring into the camera, into the audience, helps viewers understand
Scissorhands's feelings in this moment: Edward is open to whatever Peg can do for him if Edward

The Class Evaluation I Found
From the class evaluation I found that my work has been produced to a high standard and that most
of the work produced my peers were very different. I found that most of the class did something on
the basis of fine art photograph and the majority of us shot in portraiture. I found that through my
own work I have been very decisive with my idea and concept for the final photograph. When we
were doing our final evaluation and feedback to our peers I felt that at times my work was too
simple as a final image, I found that I was more attracted towards the in depth process of shooting
and setting myself a target instead of thinking of the actual sins and shooting the photograph with a
different meaning like a peer from my class he created a still life shot from all the different sins with
props that represented each sin. I found that this idea was very cleaver and he used his research to
make something that had its own unique meaning. Now looking back at my own work I feel that in
some parts of the project I could of use more of my research to shoot something more unique and
interesting but at the time I felt that the visual final image was more important than the background
meaning and that was how I went towards setting the scene for the shoot. I like the way that my
final image has came out and fully believe that it is impactful and carries a strong emotion of wrath
inside my model. Looking back to my final image there are several factors in which I find

Photography Is A Type Of Art
Photography has been around for many years. In the time that the first camera was invented to
present day, various styles of photography have evolved. Two types of photography that are very
common today are street and nature or landscape photography. Although these styles of photography
have many similarities, they have some differences as well. The subject, camera equipment, and
location are three major differences in these styles. All types of photography will have a main focus,
or subject. Street photography is a type of art that focuses on the people and the art in which that
city contains. For good street photography, you want to be located in a busy city or downtown area.
Ideal locations in the US include New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Seattle, Las Vegas, and many
more. This is because in a large city with lots of traffic, you see many different types of people. All
street photographers have different types of styles of portraying this in their work, but the people of
a city are a main focus. Street photographers like to focus on subjects such as construction workers
working in the middle of the road, businessmen/women rushing from point A to point B, the
environment of a homeless person, and many other things. It is also popular in street photography to
capture city art like graffiti and performers.
Equipment is very important with every photographer. The two main things that are important for
good quality photos are the lens and the camera body. Street

Jessica Lunsford Murder Case Essay
Lunsford Murder Case
Jessica Lunsford was a nine year old girl who was abducted from her grandmother's house, taken
right from her own bedroom on February 24, 2005. There was little sign of a struggle in the child's
room, the only things that were missing were her stuffed animals that her father won for her from a
county fair. The last time that the grandmother, Ruth Lunsford, last saw her granddaughter when she
put her to bed the night before and hadn't noticed anything.
The abductor and murderer of Jessica Lunsford would eventually be found and he would lead the
police to the place where he had buried the child.

done begin processing it. The first area of focus would be where the child was, they would look to
find any blood or torn fabric that would indicated she was struck in her sleep to try to keep her from
waking up and reacting. If blood evidence was found it would the whole object would be let to dry
then packaged in a paper bag, and the paper bag slapped with an evidence tag and filled out with all
of the pertinent information for the case. Next the place where the stuffed animals were would be
examined and dusted for finger prints, the kidnapper may have left some when they were taking the
stuffed animals. If any were found they would also be photographed scaled and evidence tagged,
before being lifted and placed on evidence cards with the information filled out in full. If any torn
fabric or other trace evidence is found at the crime scene it will be photographed, scaled, and
evidence tagged, being photographed on each step and then it would be collected and placed in a
small manila envelope and evidence tagged and filled out. All evidence will be later submitted to the

How to Take Professional Quality Pictures with a Digital...
A former point–and–shoot photographer can take professional quality pictures with a digital SLR
(single–lens reflex) camera by learning about and experimenting with its complex operations. There
are many advantages to making the transition from a point–and–shoot digital camera to a digital
SLR camera. These include capturing images "more quickly, more flexibly, and with more
creativity" (Busch, Digital 9). Furthermore, taking photos with a digital SLR camera reduces the
amount of time that otherwise would be spent editing with photo–editing software to improve the
quality of the photos. Why would one want to switch from a point–and–shoot digital camera to a

They capture a subject as it is seen with the eyes. A zoom lens allows one to zoom in and out on a
subject. It can zoom from wide–angle to telephoto focal lengths without switching lenses. Telephoto
lenses (for example, 65–130mm) allow one to capture a smaller area of a scene and magnify it
(Sheppard 191–206). According to award–winning photojournalist David D. Busch, "The sensor
captures the image during the exposure, and is the most important component of a dSLR from a
digital standpoint" (Busch, Digital 13). The sensor is what determines the resolution of the photo
(megapixels). It also determines how grainy (or noisy) the photo looks, whether the colors are
accurate, how much detail is captured in shadows and highlights, and the effective magnification of
the lens. There are big differences among sensors in digital SLR cameras from different vendors. It
is important to compare photos taken with different digital SLR cameras and select a camera that
meets one's expectations (Busch, Digital 62). In general, the more megapixels a camera has, the
better quality pictures it will take. However, too many megapixels use too much space on memory
cards and take more time to process on the computer. Exposure is the amount of light that is being
let into the camera and how long the light is let in, or the speed of the shot (Barbour). Good
exposure provides appropriately bright

Choosing Wedding Photography Lens
Choosing the best lens for wedding photography can be tricky business. There are so many on the
market these days and the can be quite expensive. But eventually you're going to need one. After all,
these are wedding pictures we're talking about. You can't just walk in with one of those disposable
cameras, can you? Here are some tips to help you choose the best lens for wedding photography.
Consider your budget
Your first consideration should be your budget. If it's going to break your bank to get a new lens
then maybe you should wait until you've got another booking or two lined up. After all, the clients
you already have hired you to be their photographer based on examples of your work without that
new lens. Just continue to do your best ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Your personal style has a lot to do with helping to build your bookings. Your equipment will all be
expensive but you don't have to replace it or upgrade all at once. Invest in your equipment gradually
and get the best your money will buy.
What type of lens should you choose?
Portraits shots account for a large percentage of wedding photos. And if you're only including a few
in your package because you don't have the proper lens, then this is a good one to start with. Then
you can add in those romantic outside shots with the bride and the groom posing on next to the
pond.
A zoom lens is also important, especially for getting those candid shots of everybody getting ready
before the wedding. And all the action shots during the reception.
A wide–angle lens is another good investment, especially for taking those shots of the whole
wedding party or the front of the church or the limo as it's pulling away.
But the best lens for wedding photography is the lens that gives you the best results. Because that's
really what it's all about. It doesn't matter what shots everybody else takes and it doesn't matter what
their work looks like. What matters is the quality and unique vision of your own photos. So take
your time, watch your budget, and don't be too hasty in your

The Animal Kingdom and Their Diversity of Vision
The world today has many different types of living organisms. Each species has a specific eye type
that is unique to their kind. Here we will discuss the differences between the eye mechanisms of
aquatic and terrestrial animals versus the four–eyed fish. The most common eye type which is ideal
for image vision is camera–type eyes. Terrestrial animals consist of animals that live mostly on land
such as flies, cats, dogs, bears, deer, cows, tigers, humans, etc. Aquatic animals consist of animals
which live in water for most of their life such as fishes, whales, frogs, mollusks, beavers, seals,
ducks, swans, crabs, etc. Apart from these aquatic animals, one genus of the family Anablepidae
called A. anableps has a distinct optical structure comprised of traits from both aquatic and
terrestrial animals. They are commonly known as the four–eyed fish, which can see through both
aerial and aquatic environments at the same time. For many years, scientists discovered that the
animal kingdom have an incredible diversity of vision. "For example, the bee's eye produces neural
image very similar to that of the human eye but with much worse resolution." (Nilsson, 1989, p.
298). In addition, Nilsson (1989) shows that the bee's eyes also detect "polarization of light in the
sky and provides color information" (p. 298). Nilsson's (1989) stated that the primary purpose of an
image–forming apparatus in the eye is to provide the nervous system with information about the
light intensity at

Analysis of the Graduate Essay
The Graduate is a great example of a film where lens and camera choices were used effectively to
convey the director's point of view. It seemed like every choice made by the director Mike Nichols
director and the director of cinematography Bob Surtees was justified. The outcome of each shot
played an important role in shaping the message of the film. The cinematography of Bob Surtees is
very complicated and thoughtful but at the same time seems poetic and spontaneous.
All of Mrs. Robinson and Benjamin's scenes pass in a musically backed montage sequence, a

The image seems very flat. The viewer cannot focus on anything but the characters' faces. The depth
of field and depth of focus are very small. One of the reasons why this scene was shot like that was
because of the rain. Mike Nichols wanted this scene to take place on a very rainy day. Of course no
one would ever think about waiting for real rain in Beverly Hills during the summer so they had to
create it by themselves. The crew set up a rainmaker over the car in which the actors were riding.
They shot from alongside and from in front using a 500 millimeter telephoto lens which threw the
background so far out of focus that it was impossible to tell whether it was pouring in the distance or
not. This was a great example of a practical use of lenses. The Graduate, however, was rich in many
experimental uses of the camera that were mainly chosen to more directly describe the characters'
state of minds.
Thinking that confessing the truth to Elaine will solve everything, Benjamin makes a major
miscalculation. He rushes towards the house with Mrs. Robinson pursuing close behind. Here again,
the scene of Ben running towards the house was shot with a telephoto lens. This lens was chosen to
create an illusion that rain is present everywhere, not only over Ben's head. The use of the telephoto
lens and the movement of the camera created another very interesting effect. The moment when Ben
is running was shot from a farther distance. One can notice that the camera

Posterior Pushing
Posterior pushing (or rotational) mechanism:
Mechanisms have been proposed to explain the role of the ciliary body in 'pushing' forms of
secondary angle–closure glaucoma:
1. When inflammation results in swollen anterior uveal tract, the ciliary ring is narrowed, which
reduces tension on the zonules, leading to the forward movement of lens, and displacing the
peripheral iris.
2. When inflammation results in swollen ciliary body, it rotates forward about its attachment to the
scleral spur, loosening the zonules and displaces the root of the iris.
3. Ciliary body swelling is usually accompanied by the accumulation of suprachoroidal and
supraciliary fluid that further rotates the ciliary body and iris root into the angle.

The prevalence has been calculated to be between 0.06% and 0.1%. A nanophthalmic eye is normal

sclera, spontaneous and postoperative uveal effusions and a wide pulse pressure. A subset of patients
with familial, recessive nanophthalmos also have a pigmented retinal degeneration. Spontaneous
choroidal effusions can occur that may induce angle closure glaucoma. Pupillary block related to
age and to lens swelling is a factor in some. The effusion rotates the ciliary body anteriorly,
displaces the peripheral iris, and loosens the zonules, allowing the lens to move

How Technology Has Changed The World
What has changed in skateboarding photography since the 1960s, what technology has helped make
these changes and how has the technique of skateboarding photography been altered over the years?
Despite what most people think skateboarding photography is an extremely difficult and artistic
form that requires not only does the talents of skilled photographers but it also requires the
knowledge of a skateboarder to know how these photos should look. In the 1960s skateboarding was
hardly seen let alone photographed, but in todays society skateboarding has become one of the most
popular action sports in the world. The rise in popularity of skateboarding has opened the door for
photographers to not only capture these amazing feats of athleticism, but to also have a stable career.
In this research paper I will discuss how the change in photographic technology and technique has
helped advance skateboarding photography from the1960s to today.
Even though the first skateboard was made in the 1950s, the skateboarding industry didn't start to
mass–produce skateboards until the 1960s when the metal skateboard wheel was replaced by the
clay skateboard wheel. (Tony Owen, 2013) With the skateboarding industry being so small (In
comparison to todays skateboarding industry) the need for skateboarding photographers was almost
none existent. In fact, the majority of photos taken of skateboarding in the 1960s look as if they
were taken over the course of a few days. Skateboarding photography in

The Career As A Musician
Music may be a universal medium, but musician are far from all being treated equally. It has
become nearly impossible to make it in the music industry, and those who do often will not succeed
for very long. Yet, it is still an illusive field and one that society depends on for entertainment. By
creating documentaries about musicians, viewers get a behind the scenes look at what being a
musician truly entails, whether it is good or bad. For Ken Vandermark, his career as a musician is a
struggle, as documented by Daniel Kraus's Musician, because of his niche genre for contemporary
society. Madonna, on the other hand, has created a career as a pop icon, as documented by Alek
Keshishian's Madonna: Truth or Dare, which may be financially successful, but is not always
rewarding. Both Kraus and Keshishian employ similar tactics for their respective documentaries;
however, through the use of different camera angles, relations to the subject, and display of live
music, they are able to provide unique insight into the artists they are following. Throughout
Musician, Kraus uses multiple camera angles in order to develop the narrative of the documentary.
His two most frequently used, extreme close ups and wide angle, are both frequently found
throughout the film to create poignant moments in the film. Extreme close ups are most commonly
used while Vandermark is performing, allowing viewers to see his unwavering focus and passion for
his work. From the very beginning of the film,

Converging Lens
The eye is the window to our world. Not only it gives us a pathway to sight, but it gives us the sense
of beauty, direction and understanding. We can use basic physics principles to understand the
mechanism of the eyes and how to correct abnormalities for maximum vision. One of the first
concepts for the eye was made by Plato, the great philosopher. In 400 BC, he theorized that rays of
light were emitted from the eyes. It was not until 1604 AD when a man named Johannes Kepler
hypothesized the retinal image, or the refracted image through the crystalline lens in which the brain
can interpret. Two hundred years later, Thomas Young discovered that the lens are pliable and
changes shape depending on the focused object distance.[12] Without the ... Show more content on

The cause of astigmatism was only discovered in 1801 by Thomas Young, the man who unveiled the
mystery of the crystalline lens. Astigmatism can be simply understood as a variance in curvature
around the crystalline lens or cornea. If the lens was not uniform, this would cause the light rays to
refract at different angles from each other. Although the incident angle of the ray may all be similar,
the line normal to the surface will vary in a greatly, causing the angle of the refracted ray to vary. An
optometrist would view the lens shape in terms of meridians, or cross sections. The vertical meridian
is the longitudinal section of the crystalline lens while the horizontal meridian is the transverse
section. The refracting power of the two meridians will differ, causing the light rays to converge
disproportionally. Concave and convex lenses can correct this problem, but must be angled in a
particular way in order to fix one meridian other than the entire

Telephoto Lens
A telephoto lens can also change the perspective of the picture, giving a completely new angle or
focus to your photo. Also, telephoto lenses are handy at compressing perspective. This is when the
background of a photo appears to be closer to the subject than what is experienced with the naked
eye. This is beneficial when you cannot physically move your subject closer to the background. You
can also fill the frame of your photo by getting shots from a far distance. This will bring in objects
further back into the frame, filling out the edges of your shot nicely. With this lens, you can isolate
far away objects much better than with a wide angle lens. Since the telephoto zoom closes the
distance between you and your subject, it is ideal for capturing pictures of wildlife. Next to using an
actual telescope, a telephoto lens is the best way to photograph the moon. It can show features and
definition of the moon that your DSLR would otherwise not pick up. This lens can also capture
action shots, as well as create a shallow depth of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The same is true if you were to angle your camera down towards the ground. Generally, you will
want to point your camera straight ahead focused on the object you are capturing. Since wide angle
lenses can capture more area. This creates impressive space expanding photos with a strong depth of
field. A strong depth of field is when the background seems to go on forever, and there are many
defining features you can pick out. This is very popular in landscape and other environmental
pictures when there is not one specific subject, but instead the scenery is the most important element
of the photo. As you can see, there are many reasons why a wide angle lens may interest you. Prices
start in the $150 range, and increase depending on brand and specifications. After the kit and

Street Photography Research Paper
Shooting street photography is something that many photographers aspire to but few every do. Too
often photographers fear actually shooting on the street. They feel that street is a skill with too many
demands. Or, they feel that other people will judge them too harshly. The great thing is that none of
these things are true. With a few tricks of the trade nearly anyone can be on their way to creating
world class street snaps. 1. Set Your Settings at Home Setting your setting at home means less time
in the field fiddling with your camera and more time getting those shots. In general street
photography uses a mid–range aperture. Many find that a setting between f8 and f11 produces a nice

The gold standard is a 35mm prime lens. This means that you will have to comfortable walking into
the scene to get the best framing. Some others prefer to use lens between 24mm up to 55mm. A
standard 18mm–55mm zoom lens will be able to capture great images from further away. It's a great
way to ease into getting close to your subjects. No Zooming Allowed Speaking of lenses, try to just
use prime or fixed length lens. If you are using a zoom lens set it to a length and leave it. A fixed
length lens forces one to master the skill of composition. You will also be able to focus and shoot
faster with a fixed length lens. In street photography seconds really do count. Fast Focus for Fast
Shooting Make use of the AF–S/one shot mode of the DSLR. Most people today use autofocus.
When you shoot set the focus distance using the AF–L/AF–ON button on the back. This means you
will be able to shoot faster. Capture the Decisive Moment The phrase 'decisive moment' dates back
to the beginning of photography. This is where that fast shooting comes in handy! When you find a
scene that you like be sure to take plenty of shots. Ten to thirty shots of a scene will help you

Movie Analysis : Film Analysis Of Thelma And Louise
In this paper, I will write about "Thelma and Louise" (1991) movie. I choose a last scene of the
movie which the police came to arrest them in the Grand Canyon (from 122 to 125 minutes).
The scene starts with the medium shot of Thelma and Louise's face while they are being amazed by
The Grand Canyon. Although they had almost fallen off a cliff, their faces were not scared but
amazed by the beauty of the Grand Canyon. However, when hearing the helicopter, Louise's
emotion changed, the camera closed up to Louise's face with full of nervousness and surprise and
looked at Thelma. The camera tilts up following the helicopter in the next shot, Hal is sitting in the
helicopter and looking at Thelma and Louise, his face is shot in a low angle camera. When the next
scene was when Louise backed off, the camera was converted to a wide–angle lens and chosen long
shot, which enabled a panoramic view of Louise's car to the police helicopter.
Following that, the director used the wide angle to pan from left to right to shoot the entire polices
come to arrest Louise and Thelma. This implicitly insist that they are no longer simply the suspects
of killing Harlan, now they are becoming dangerous criminals and wanted in two states. Thelma's
and Louise's panicked faces were once shown through the close up shot. Her first reaction when she
saw the police was to run away, camera close–up her hands spinning the steering wheel in order to
turn the car and escape. The director chose long shot to shoot the car reversing and turning to get
ready to run away.
In the next scene, the director chooses the telephoto lens to be able to take a shallow focus on the
hands of the police are putting bullet into the gun, and camera pans left to right to show that there
are many polices ready to shoot them if they do anything dangerously. Back to the girls, their panic
and fearful faces were shown through a medium shot. Their faces now also partly reflect the chaos
in their thoughts. They still have not figured out why so many policemen came to arrest them.
Perhaps, they knew that murder fled was a serious crime but they probably never thought that they
the police side needs a large force as an army to capture two girls.

2 does my idea inform? If the answer to both these questions is 'yes' you are essentially on the right
track. If the answer is no to either or both these questions, then it may be worth reevaluating your
idea. The programme must be well thought through and constructed. Keep it short and to the point,
make sure your idea is lively and imaginative, and that the direction is logical and properly argued.
By following these basic rules you are far more likely to communicate your ideas to an audience.
Target your programme at a particular audience and establish early on the programmer's objective.
Decide in advance how you are going to develop your idea. Try to produce a written outline,
thinking visually all the time. Research your subject thoroughly becoming an expert on it. Your
research should include people and locations, as well as the general concepts surrounding your idea.
A poorly researched idea is as likely to ruin your programme as badly directed one. Write your script
and visualize it by producing a storyboard. Link the script to the pictures as you move from
sequence to see if the combination works. Finally if you are working with a group develops your
ideas and shares them together. Everybody's ideas are worth considering and more often than not
they will add a new and interesting dimension to the film. At A Glance 1. Make sure your film both
entertains and informs. 2. Keep it fresh and interesting 3. Think visually all the time. You are not

The Mind 's Eye By Oliver Sacks
The status quo holds that the connection between experience and social connections is
unidirectional. Simply put, experience affects social connections, period. However, social
connections can affect one's experiences through psychological and biological changes. Barbara
Fredrickson in her paper Love.2.0: How Our Supreme Emotion Affects Everything We Feel, Think,
Do and Become explains how the biology of love and creating bonds can affect a person physically,
psychologically and biologically. In The Mind's Eye by Oliver Sacks, Sacks elaborates on the stories
of a multitude of people who went blind at some point in their lives. Alone Together: Why We

Once this manifestation takes hold, the two people begin to subconsciously imitate and interpret
information like the other person. This subconsciously affects experiences by allowing someone to
"walk a mile in someone else's shoes" because the people's "respective brain waves mirror one
another...moment by moment–changes the other's mind," (110). These psychological changes, as
stated before, leads to a change in perspective since your mirror waves are the same as those of the
person whom you have bonded with. Moreover, behaviors that have arisen from social connections
can greatly influence and experience. Behavior can define an experience because it determines how
others will interpret this experience. A common example of this is after a person loses someone
whom they care about. Often times, people will say that death has changed the person. This is
primarily because people tend to act rash and irrational while maintaining a negative mentality
shortly after a loved one's passing. This grieving period has been seen to change people's personality
as well as their behavior. We can draw a parallel with children and Furbies. In the late 90's, Furbies
were popular toys that children would talk to and get a response (Turkle 467). The fact that these
toys were always on and had a personality made them a holiday season craze.

When Latika is introduced to Jamal and Salim, the audience is shown an image of her, standing in
the rain, all alone. The use of water in that scene seems to be a symbolic reawakening of sorts, and
in that reawakening, the viewer is shown the harshness and severeness of these children's situation.
There's no pity, or a simple discarding of their issues. Jamal, Latika, and Salim all have to fight for
their lives, for their freedom, and more importantly to achieve their one true destiny, which in the
end, varies vastly in the final act of the film. Throughout the story, the viewers are shown an
abundance of shots of bare feet. For instance, in the opening scene, where Jamal is being tortured by
the police, the viewer is shown a quick shot of Jamal's feet, as he dangles helplessly from the
ceiling, his arms tied above his head. Another shot involving characters feet is when Salim is shown
stealing shoes for the first time. The viewer is momentarily shown Salim's feet as they slip into the
pair of sneakers. One last usage of feet is when Salim, now much older, begins to pray before he
goes to commit his 'hit'. When praying in India, many of their religions involve the removing of
shoes, and while they pray, they are known to do so in bare feet. A barefoot itself is symbolic. It is
symbolic of birth, and it is symbolic of a cleanse. Salim cleanses his soul before he goes to complete

Photography Is Not Just About Taking Simple Photographs
In this generation people tend to take their photographs on their phones instead of hiring a
professional photographer to take them. Photography is not just about taking simple photographs.
Professional photographers need to understand the concept of what makes the best photographs.
Photographers must use lighting, different equipment, different types of photographs, and specific
subject matter to create unique photographs as well as how to finish and edit them. The beginning of
photography was in 1826, when Nicephore Niepce produced the first permanent photograph using a
camera obscura. Three years later in 1829, Louis Daguerre joined partnership with Nicephore
Niepce ("Ted 's Photographics – The Fundamental Principles of Photography Explained."). In 1839,
years after the death of Nicephore Niepce, Louis Daguerre became the first photographer to use
silver–iodide coated plates and a small box to take a photograph (Careers in Focus'101). Motion
photographs were made in 1877 using a series of still photographs to create the illusion of motion.
In 1889, Thomas Edison developed the first single–unit motion picture camera; standards that are
still used today (Careers in Focus, 25). Many professional photographers use different type of
equipment: cameras, lenses, and accessories. Many photographers use different cameras and lenses
depending on the type of photograph they're going to take. Many photographers use the 35mm SLR
(single lens reflect) camera. The 35mm SLR is the

The Birdcage Essay
In analyzing the style of Emmanuel Lubezki I found that his techniques adapts to the style/needs of
the director and the movie he works on. In the movie The Birdcage, he uses a long lens glamour
style whereas, in Children of Men he takes on his famous natural lighting style with a handheld
camera. What's unique about these two styles is that he manages to show that the subjects/actors are
the main focus and they standout and look amazing whether natural or artificial, he produces
natural–looking shots. Lubezki also uses techniques in camera to create the best shoot without
green–screens although, when used, the lighting holdes the image together and creates believable
moments.
Lubezki has two predominant styles of lighting the actors faces. One is called short lite, which is
when the shadow side of the subject's faces the camera (three fourths lighting style) and the other
style of lighting cuts right down the middle of the actors faces. We see this in A Series of

Summary Of Christopher Nolan's 'Evacuation Of Dunkirk'
Q. In what ways do Christopher Nolan and ________ develop the idea of causality of war in
Dunkirk and Evacuation of Dunquecue, respectively?
Within Christopher Nolan's Film Dunkirk and _______'s poem Evacuation of Dunkirk both authors
explore the causality of war. Both texts are set in the same situation and both explore the different
aspects of the evacuation of Dunkirk from two similar but different sources. They both develop the
themes of isolation, honour and hope. Specifically, Nolan uses his filmmaking style to its essence,
resulting in scenes of simple but immensely charged visual momentum. Whilst ______'s poem
connects to the reader on an emotional level, almost giving the reader a perspective of what it was
like to be a part of the historical event.
Christopher Nolan, throughout the course of his film uses a range muted colours as well as bluish
tones in order to reflect the water and the heavy machinery. Nolan uses a range of camera techniques
including close ups, mid–range, long shots as well as the most obvious overhead shots. Nolan uses
these overhead shots multiple times but especially of the soldiers distributed across a beach convey
and unnerving isolation, as it these were there last times on earth as they look as if they are alone
and deserted. Another example of how Nolan's cinematography successfully depicts the evacuation
of Dunkirk is when soldiers are found waiting for the tide in an abandoned boat. In this scene, the

A Brief Note On Wildlife Photography, And For Good Reason
Wildlife photography is a very popular area to specialise in, and for good reason. It gives you a great
excuse to spend extended periods of time outdoors, keeps you fit, and allows you to develop a real
appreciation for the natural world. But it can also be a very challenging field too, especially since
your subject is often running away from you! I 'm going to share with you 15 of my top tips so that
you can start improving your wildlife photos straight away. Hopefully by the end of this article you
'll have learnt something new that will help you on your journey to becoming the next Art Wolfe. 1.
Shoot on Eye–level When you 're standing up and shooting an animal on the ground, your angle of
view is pointing downwards. This detracts from the photo, making the perspective seem strange. It
also decreases the distance between the subject and the background, getting rid of your chance for
that nice, soft bokeh (background). Instead, get onto eye–level with your subject. It brings the
viewer down onto the animal 's level, creating a much more interesting perspective. It will most
likely increase the distance between the subject and the background too, removing distracting
elements by throwing the backdrop out of focus. 2. Learn About Your Subject Getting to know the
animal you 're photographing can be a really helpful trick. If you know about an animal 's typical
behavioural traits, then you will be able to predict movements or particular things you can focus on
capturing.

Citizen Kane Narrative Techniques
1.) Citizen Kane is recognized as one of the greatest films made in the history of cinema, mostly due
to its innovativeness. The cinematography, sound, and narrative structure cemented Citizen Kane's
legacy and influenced films of all genres for years to come. James Naremore wrote an essay that
described why Citizen Kane was held up to such high regard, using examples from other scenes to
highlight how the use of certain techniques help to make the film stand out. Naremore writes that
Kane "is important for many reasons, among them its ingenious juggling of time and perspective, its
carefully designed sound track, and its influential use of wide–angle, deep–focus photography." (pg.

Citizen Kane focuses on developing scenes from the protagonist's past, and how his death has
affected the secondary plot of a reporter investigating his last words. The narrative strategy, in which
the whole story is told in flashback from slightly different points of view (the equivalent of the
unreliable narrator in fiction), was unprecedented in a Hollywood film. The technique of telling the
story of Kane from multiple points of view dispels the illusion that we are learning the "truth" about
Charles Foster Kane. As numerous commentators such as Naremore have observed, the film is like a
complicated jigsaw puzzle which the viewer must piece together, bit by bit, in order to see the whole
picture. Only in the final moments of the film, when we despair of ever discovering the meaning of
"Rosebud," does the film's narration return us to a privileged omniscient perspective, revealing the
final missing piece. One scene that helps develop the unique structure is the beginning scene, with
the film opening to Kane's death. Most films do not begin with the character's death, especially with
a detailed scene like Citizen Kane. At the start of the film, the camera pans up and over a sign on a
wire fence

How Does I Use The Rule Of Thirds Composition?
Since my photographs are all centered on the idea of depression, I chose to edit them all with a
selenium tone because depression is often described as "having all of the color drained out of your
life" or "seeing everything in black and white." I also chose to use less contrast in the photos that
were depicting more serious aspects of depression (i.e. the one that shows the girl cutting herself), to
emphasize that the deeper you sink into it the more grey and bland your life becomes, almost like
nothing has definition anymore. In most of my photographs, I tried to use the Rule of Thirds
composition whenever I could, but sometimes I didn't find that perspective aesthetically pleasing for
my picture, so I tried a new angle. As far as framing goes, I tend to do mostly medium shots because
they're what I'm most comfortable with editing, but I also took a few close ups when I felt that the
photo needed more emotional emphasis. In one of my close up shots (the one with the girl looking
out the window), I chose to angle it in a way that allowed her to have lookspace because I wanted to
be able to blur the background and create that narrow depth of field to emphasize the part of
depression in which the person is present but not really there. For all of my photographs I only use
natural light along with the built in flash on my camera because when I shoot outdoors I enjoy
having that lighting. I also like editing with natural light because, even though it 's kind of difficult

DSLR camera has many features some of which may sound intimidating at first. The camera
combines a host of optics and digital imaging sensor and single lens reflex camera mechanisms to
capture shots. DSLR camera remain the most popular type of interchangeable lens camera in use
today. The DSLR camera market is dominated by companies such as Canon, Nikon, Sony and
Olympus from Japan as well as manufactures such as Sigma and Leica from Germany. You can use
these features to create highly compelling shoots. The features include custom picture controls,
multiple exposure, flash compensation, back button focus, time lapse and time before sleep feature.
The other features include depth of field preview, Instagram mode and depth of field preview.
Custom picture control
The camera usually applies critical adjustments such as sharpness, contrast and color saturation to
Raw images to make them finer. Indeed if you prefer taking photos in RAW mode, you need not
worry about the settings because it will be amended automatically. If you want to set picture style or
custom picture control, you simply need to go to the menu and change to find custom picture control
settings.
Exposure compensation
Exposure compensation is mostly located around the shutter. The unit allows you to increase or
decrease default meter reading on your camera to account for the brifghtness in the area you are

Analysis Of The Movie ' The Thin Red Line '
The war film is a classic genre. Today, one has a wide variety of war films from which to choose.
But after watching most of them one will find that they are all quite similar. The one thing that all
these films have in common, even more so than the rather similar characters, is the way the camera
is used to portray life in war and on the front line. This appears to be the most traditional and
theatrical approach to portraying this subject, giving the audience what we think they want. Viewers
ultimately walk away saying the same thing. "men make war heroic," and with that in mind these
films completely chose to ignore the alternative: that war is not heroic! War is filled with evil and
hatred, and it leaves men soulless and disturbed for the remainder of their lives. Terrence Malick's
The Thin Red Line ( 1998) approaches war from an entirely different angle, literally and
figuratively. I will show how visual design speaks to the film's overall theme that war is not heroic,
its unstable, brutal, and an internal battle for the soul of men on and off the battlefield; and,
furthermore, I will demonstrate how simple aesthetic choices such as natural lighting, contrast, and
color influence the elements of this film that convey this message. The scene on which I want to
focus my attention is the ambush scene where the Americans emerge from the fog and bombard the
Japanese camp. I found that this particular scene embodied the entire film. Given that there is such

The Conditions Of The Marine Environment
Introduction:
The conditions of the marine environment place special demands on the design and use of a camera
(ERT Task Sheet, 2015). An average above surface camera cannot simply be made waterproof using
a camera housing in order to operate effectively underwater. There are special demands created by
various aspects of the marine environment for example, the lens must be designed specifically to
recorrect the distortion created by refraction and strobes must be placed away from the camera to
avoid backscatter. Refraction mainly occurs when underwater photographers use a flat port (Deep
Ocean Diving – Underwater vision, n.d.). These factors would be the reason as to why the camera

In order to calculate the refractive index, this formula will be used: n_(1–2)=n_2/n_1 . For medium
1, n_1 is the absolute refractive index and for medium 2, n_2 is the absolute refractive index
(Refraction of Light, 2015). When a light ray enters different medium, all molecules in that medium
absorbs the light and re–emits it. This is why the light ray take longer to pass through. The more
molecules the more time the light will be absorbed and re–emitted and therefore the longer it will
take to pass through. Due to this difference in densities and amount of time the light ray takes to
pass through, refraction occurs. This is when the light ray bends when it travels through two
different mediums. This affects underwater photography as refraction occurs and the object is
distorted (Underwater Holdings, 2015).
Optical Underwater Issue: Refraction in Waterproof Camera Housing Underwater
Figure 2: Flat Port and Dome Port Underwater Refraction is one of the major issues when it comes
to underwater photography. Refraction is the apparent change in the speed of the light ray which
results to a change in the direction of the ray (Kwon, 2015). Once light travels from air to water, it
slows down as it come across the denser medium. This is a problem if all light rays could cross the
dividing line at right angles. Refraction can be encountered when light travels from air to

Comparison Of Prime Lenses And Zoom Lens

  • 1. Comparison Of Prime Lenses And Zoom Lens Best lenses for portrait photography In any type of photography, whether portraiture, landscape cityscape or any other, the lens is usually the most important part of your kit. Most will probably agree that selecting the perfect lens depends essentially on each photographer's personal taste, needs, and budget. Below we have collected some thoughts about differences of various types of lenses. Prime Lenses vs Zoom Lenses A prime lens has a fixed focal length, while a zoom lens covers a range of focal lengths. Zoom lenses are often more expensive as they contain more elements. Because prime lenses are optimized for their fixed focal length and there is less light distorting elements used, they often produce higher quality images than a zoom ... Principles Of Photonics And Optical Engineering University of Texas at Arlington EE5380: Principles of Photonics & Optical Engineering EXTRA CREDIT Supriya Kavilkar 100 109 5019 15 August 2015 Absorption coefficient The absorption coefficient decides how far into a material, the light of a particular wavelength can penetrate before it is absorbed. The photons that have an energy above the band gap, depends on the wavelength and its absorption coefficient is not constant. The likelihood of retaining a photon relies on upon the probability of having a photon and an electron connect so as to move starting with one energy band then onto the next. The absorption is relatively low for photons with energy very close to that of the band gap, as only those electrons directly at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because dn/dω and dε'/dω have the same sign, the index of refraction decreases with frequency in a spectral region of anomalous dispersion. Anomalous dispersion can be observed experimentally if the substance is not too opaque at the resonance frequency. E.g. certain dyes have absorption bands in the visible region of the spectrum and exhibit anomalous dispersion in the region of these bands. Prisms doped with these dyes produce a spectrum that is reversed, i.e. the longer wavelengths are refracted more than the shorter wavelengths. Aperture A device that controls the amount of light admitted through an opening. In photography and digital photography, aperture is the unit of measurement that defines the size of the opening in the lens that can be adjusted to control the amount of light reaching the film or digital sensor. The size of the aperture is measured in F–stop. Aspherical Aspherical lenses are lenses with complex curved surfaces, such as where the radius of curvature changes according to distance from the optical axis. It offers excellent aberration correction performance, which provides superior resolution, even with compact optics composed of a small number of elements. • 6. The Little Fugitive Movie Meaning The Little Fugitive is a movie made by Morris Engel in 1953. This movie came out during the New Wave and right before the French New Wave. During this time directors use what was going on in their day to day lives to fuel the making of the movie. Morris Engel used a cheap handheld camera causing some scenes to be a little shaky and unsteady. Since colored film was not a thing, the film is in black and white causing a lot of the scenes to have hard lighting. The implicit meaning of the movie is that growing up in this time period children are confused about what they want to be or what they should be when they grow up. This movie came right after the Second World War. Most of the father figures have left and gone to world during this time, where they most likely have been killed. This leaves the sons of the family confused and lost. The mother makes a comment to Lennie telling him how he has to be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They will fuss and fight but when one goes missing they will do anything and everything in their power to get them back, especially if their butts are on the line. Being the older sibling is never easy, you have to sacrifice things, your time and even friends. Lennie, Joey's older brother, allows his friend Harry to concoct a joke that is supposed to scare Joey. It goes wrong and he sees that they went too far when Joey goes missing. Lennie blames Harry and they get into a fight. This is where the saying blood is thicker than water comes into play. Also, in the explicit meaning we see that the young sibling usually looks up to the older sibling and may want to be just like them. The scene where they are playing baseball is a good example of part of the explicit meaning. Joey wants to play with Lennie and his friends, but is not welcomed because they feel like he is too young. The fact that Lennie did not want Joey to go to Coney Island with his friend is another way to show their sibling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. How Can Photographers Use A Polarizing Filter? Photographers often use polarizing filters to improve the appearance of the images they capture. With digital cameras many filters are no longer necessary and do not always work correctly. There is one filter, however, that is the most often used filter, and it is considered a necessity to a landscape photographer. Whether using a digital or a film camera a polarizing filter will increase color and eliminate reflections in your images. To unlock the secret of the polarizing filter, you must use the filter correctly. To use your filter, find the correct size filter to fit the lens you are currently using. (a 55mm polarizer for a 55mm lens etc). Secondly, screw the filter onto the front end of the lens (nearest the subject). After the filter ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course, you must be very careful on a low light day as a filter can make your images too dark. A polarizer will cut the amount of light reaching your film or sensor. To counteract the decreased light reaching the sensor or film, open the aperture or slow your shutter speed to compensate. Even though using a polarizing filter has many benefits, which far outweigh the pitfalls, there are several pitfalls of using a polarizing filter. Most of the pitfalls can be avoided with a bit of knowledge. The first thing one needs to know about a polarizing filter is that there are 2 different types. One is the linear polarizing filter the other is the circular polarizing filter. A circular or a linear filter will do exactly the same thing for your images; enhance them. To compare them, the circular filter is more expensive and the linear filter may not be the best choice for most cameras that use auto focus. A linear filter will often ruin the performance of auto focus; the camera is unable to transform the information correctly coming from the filter. • 12. Process Analysis Essay On Photography A beautiful photograph takes some skill behind the lens, but it takes a little skill in front of it, too. In order for you to have excellent results, the photographer and the model need to have enough chemistry. Also, one thing that you shouldn't leave behind is confidence. Choosing Clothes When choosing your clothes neutral colors look best. Leave bright colors, crazy patterns and horizontal stripes in the closet. Check your face in the mirror. Do you have any pimples or scars you could cover or an oily skin that needs powdering? Could your eyes use some drops to clear up redness? Are your eyebrows trimmed and neat? Remember, if you wear make–up, colors will look more intense in photos especially on black and white film. No blinking Just before the picture is taken, close your eyes. And have the photographer count to tree. This is the best way to prevent blinking from ruining shots. In Edward Scissorhands, director Tim Burton relies upon a bevy of different camera angles to capture Edward as an assailable protagonist, alone and existing as separate from community. Tim Burton uses creative and sometimes cramped camera angles to convey the primary concepts of aloneness and self–discovery, in addition to augmenting the veiled themes of societal homogeneity and discrimination, to the audience. I found that most of the class did something on the basis of fine art photograph and the majority of us shot in portraiture. I found that through my own work I have been very decisive with my idea and concept for the final photograph. When we were doing our final evaluation and feedback to our peers I felt that at times my work was too simple as a final image, I found that I was more attracted towards the in depth process of shooting and setting myself a target instead of thinking of the actual sins and shooting the photograph with a different meaning like a peer from my class he created a still life shot from all the different sins with props that represented each sin. I found that this idea was very cleaver and he used his research to make something that had its own unique meaning. Now looking back at my own work I feel that in some parts of the project I could of use more of my research to shoot something more unique and interesting but at the time I felt that the visual final image was more important than the background meaning and that was how I went towards setting the scene for the shoot. • 24. How to Take Professional Quality Pictures with a Digital... A former point–and–shoot photographer can take professional quality pictures with a digital SLR (single–lens reflex) camera by learning about and experimenting with its complex operations. There are many advantages to making the transition from a point–and–shoot digital camera to a digital SLR camera. These include capturing images "more quickly, more flexibly, and with more creativity" (Busch, Digital 9). Furthermore, taking photos with a digital SLR camera reduces the amount of time that otherwise would be spent editing with photo–editing software to improve the quality of the photos. Why would one want to switch from a point–and–shoot digital camera to a digital SLR camera? Some of the reasons are: a more accurate viewfinder, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They capture a subject as it is seen with the eyes. A zoom lens allows one to zoom in and out on a subject. It can zoom from wide–angle to telephoto focal lengths without switching lenses. Telephoto lenses (for example, 65–130mm) allow one to capture a smaller area of a scene and magnify it (Sheppard 191–206). According to award–winning photojournalist David D. Busch, "The sensor captures the image during the exposure, and is the most important component of a dSLR from a digital standpoint" (Busch, Digital 13). The sensor is what determines the resolution of the photo (megapixels). It also determines how grainy (or noisy) the photo looks, whether the colors are accurate, how much detail is captured in shadows and highlights, and the effective magnification of the lens. There are big differences among sensors in digital SLR cameras from different vendors. It is important to compare photos taken with different digital SLR cameras and select a camera that meets one's expectations (Busch, Digital 62). In general, the more megapixels a camera has, the better quality pictures it will take. However, too many megapixels use too much space on memory cards and take more time to process on the computer. • 28. The Animal Kingdom and Their Diversity of Vision The world today has many different types of living organisms. Each species has a specific eye type that is unique to their kind. Here we will discuss the differences between the eye mechanisms of aquatic and terrestrial animals versus the four–eyed fish. The most common eye type which is ideal for image vision is camera–type eyes. Terrestrial animals consist of animals that live mostly on land such as flies, cats, dogs, bears, deer, cows, tigers, humans, etc. Aquatic animals consist of animals which live in water for most of their life such as fishes, whales, frogs, mollusks, beavers, seals, ducks, swans, crabs, etc. Apart from these aquatic animals, one genus of the family Anablepidae called A. anableps has a distinct optical structure comprised of traits from both aquatic and terrestrial animals. They are commonly known as the four–eyed fish, which can see through both aerial and aquatic environments at the same time. For many years, scientists discovered that the animal kingdom have an incredible diversity of vision. "For example, the bee's eye produces neural image very similar to that of the human eye but with much worse resolution." (Nilsson, 1989, p. 298). In addition, Nilsson (1989) shows that the bee's eyes also detect "polarization of light in the sky and provides color information" (p. 298). It seemed like every choice made by the director Mike Nichols director and the director of cinematography Bob Surtees was justified. The outcome of each shot played an important role in shaping the message of the film. The cinematography of Bob Surtees is very complicated and thoughtful but at the same time seems poetic and spontaneous. The viewer cannot focus on anything but the characters' faces. The depth of field and depth of focus are very small. One of the reasons why this scene was shot like that was because of the rain. Mike Nichols wanted this scene to take place on a very rainy day. Of course no one would ever think about waiting for real rain in Beverly Hills during the summer so they had to create it by themselves. The crew set up a rainmaker over the car in which the actors were riding. They shot from alongside and from in front using a 500 millimeter telephoto lens which threw the background so far out of focus that it was impossible to tell whether it was pouring in the distance or not. This was a great example of a practical use of lenses. The Graduate, however, was rich in many experimental uses of the camera that were mainly chosen to more directly describe the characters' state of minds. Thinking that confessing the truth to Elaine will solve everything, Benjamin makes a major miscalculation. He rushes towards the house with Mrs. Robinson pursuing close behind. Here again, the scene of Ben running towards the house was shot with a telephoto lens. This lens was chosen to create an illusion that rain is present everywhere, not only over Ben's head. The use of the telephoto lens and the movement of the camera created another very interesting effect. The moment when Ben is running was shot from a farther distance. We can use basic physics principles to understand the mechanism of the eyes and how to correct abnormalities for maximum vision. One of the first concepts for the eye was made by Plato, the great philosopher. In 400 BC, he theorized that rays of light were emitted from the eyes. It was not until 1604 AD when a man named Johannes Kepler hypothesized the retinal image, or the refracted image through the crystalline lens in which the brain can interpret. The cause of astigmatism was only discovered in 1801 by Thomas Young, the man who unveiled the mystery of the crystalline lens. Astigmatism can be simply understood as a variance in curvature around the crystalline lens or cornea. Although the incident angle of the ray may all be similar, the line normal to the surface will vary in a greatly, causing the angle of the refracted ray to vary. An optometrist would view the lens shape in terms of meridians, or cross sections. The vertical meridian is the longitudinal section of the crystalline lens while the horizontal meridian is the transverse section. The refracting power of the two meridians will differ, causing the light rays to converge disproportionally. The scene starts with the medium shot of Thelma and Louise's face while they are being amazed by The Grand Canyon. Although they had almost fallen off a cliff, their faces were not scared but amazed by the beauty of the Grand Canyon. However, when hearing the helicopter, Louise's emotion changed, the camera closed up to Louise's face with full of nervousness and surprise and looked at Thelma. The camera tilts up following the helicopter in the next shot, Hal is sitting in the helicopter and looking at Thelma and Louise, his face is shot in a low angle camera. When the next scene was when Louise backed off, the camera was converted to a wide–angle lens and chosen long shot, which enabled a panoramic view of Louise's car to the police helicopter. Following that, the director used the wide angle to pan from left to right to shoot the entire polices come to arrest Louise and Thelma. This implicitly insist that they are no longer simply the suspects of killing Harlan, now they are becoming dangerous criminals and wanted in two states. Thelma's and Louise's panicked faces were once shown through the close up shot. Her first reaction when she saw the police was to run away, camera close–up her hands spinning the steering wheel in order to turn the car and escape. The director chose long shot to shoot the car reversing and turning to get ready to run away. In the next scene, the director chooses the telephoto lens to be able to take a shallow focus on the hands of the police are putting bullet into the gun, and camera pans left to right to show that there are many polices ready to shoot them if they do anything dangerously. Back to the girls, their panic and fearful faces were shown through a medium shot. Their faces now also partly reflect the chaos in their thoughts. They still have not figured out why so many policemen came to arrest them. Perhaps, they knew that murder fled was a serious crime but they probably never thought that they the police side needs a large force as an army to capture two girls. Dolly track is used in the ... Simply put, experience affects social connections, period. However, social connections can affect one's experiences through psychological and biological changes. Barbara Fredrickson in her paper Love.2.0: How Our Supreme Emotion Affects Everything We Feel, Think, Do and Become explains how the biology of love and creating bonds can affect a person physically, psychologically and biologically. Once this manifestation takes hold, the two people begin to subconsciously imitate and interpret information like the other person. This subconsciously affects experiences by allowing someone to "walk a mile in someone else's shoes" because the people's "respective brain waves mirror one another...moment by moment–changes the other's mind," (110). These psychological changes, as stated before, leads to a change in perspective since your mirror waves are the same as those of the person whom you have bonded with. Moreover, behaviors that have arisen from social connections can greatly influence and experience. Behavior can define an experience because it determines how others will interpret this experience. A common example of this is after a person loses someone whom they care about. Often times, people will say that death has changed the person. This is primarily because people tend to act rash and irrational while maintaining a negative mentality shortly after a loved one's passing. This grieving period has been seen to change people's personality as well as their behavior. We can draw a parallel with children and Furbies. In the late 90's, Furbies were popular toys that children would talk to and get a response (Turkle 467). The fact that these toys were always on and had a personality made them a holiday season craze. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Man has always chosen between the two, giving the world great leaders of science, and great leaders of faith. In Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle, the viewer is thrusted into an ultimate tale of destiny versus coincidence. A young man who has made it onto the popular game show, "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?" is shown being questioned by the authorities, who refuse to believe that this young man, who has been brought up from the slums and forced into a world of poverty and violence, can simply know all the answers. The use of water in that scene seems to be a symbolic reawakening of sorts, and in that reawakening, the viewer is shown the harshness and severeness of these children's situation. There's no pity, or a simple discarding of their issues. Jamal, Latika, and Salim all have to fight for their lives, for their freedom, and more importantly to achieve their one true destiny, which in the end, varies vastly in the final act of the film. Throughout the story, the viewers are shown an abundance of shots of bare feet. For instance, in the opening scene, where Jamal is being tortured by the police, the viewer is shown a quick shot of Jamal's feet, as he dangles helplessly from the ceiling, his arms tied above his head. Another shot involving characters feet is when Salim is shown stealing shoes for the first time. The viewer is momentarily shown Salim's feet as they slip into the pair of sneakers. One last usage of feet is when Salim, now much older, begins to pray before he goes to commit his 'hit'. When praying in India, many of their religions involve the removing of shoes, and while they pray, they are known to do so in bare feet. A barefoot itself is symbolic. • 58. Photography Is Not Just About Taking Simple Photographs In this generation people tend to take their photographs on their phones instead of hiring a professional photographer to take them. Photography is not just about taking simple photographs. Professional photographers need to understand the concept of what makes the best photographs. Photographers must use lighting, different equipment, different types of photographs, and specific subject matter to create unique photographs as well as how to finish and edit them. The beginning of photography was in 1826, when Nicephore Niepce produced the first permanent photograph using a camera obscura. Three years later in 1829, Louis Daguerre joined partnership with Nicephore Niepce ("Ted 's Photographics – The Fundamental Principles of Photography Explained."). In 1839, years after the death of Nicephore Niepce, Louis Daguerre became the first photographer to use silver–iodide coated plates and a small box to take a photograph (Careers in Focus'101). Motion photographs were made in 1877 using a series of still photographs to create the illusion of motion. In 1889, Thomas Edison developed the first single–unit motion picture camera; standards that are still used today (Careers in Focus, 25). Many professional photographers use different type of equipment: cameras, lenses, and accessories. Many photographers use different cameras and lenses depending on the type of photograph they're going to take. Many photographers use the 35mm SLR (single lens reflect) camera. In the movie The Birdcage, he uses a long lens glamour style whereas, in Children of Men he takes on his famous natural lighting style with a handheld camera. What's unique about these two styles is that he manages to show that the subjects/actors are the main focus and they standout and look amazing whether natural or artificial, he produces natural–looking shots. Lubezki also uses techniques in camera to create the best shoot without green–screens although, when used, the lighting holdes the image together and creates believable moments. Lubezki has two predominant styles of lighting the actors faces. In what ways do Christopher Nolan and ________ develop the idea of causality of war in Dunkirk and Evacuation of Dunquecue, respectively? Within Christopher Nolan's Film Dunkirk and _______'s poem Evacuation of Dunkirk both authors explore the causality of war. Both texts are set in the same situation and both explore the different aspects of the evacuation of Dunkirk from two similar but different sources. They both develop the themes of isolation, honour and hope. Specifically, Nolan uses his filmmaking style to its essence, resulting in scenes of simple but immensely charged visual momentum. Whilst ______'s poem connects to the reader on an emotional level, almost giving the reader a perspective of what it was like to be a part of the historical event. Christopher Nolan, throughout the course of his film uses a range muted colours as well as bluish tones in order to reflect the water and the heavy machinery. Nolan uses a range of camera techniques including close ups, mid–range, long shots as well as the most obvious overhead shots. Nolan uses these overhead shots multiple times but especially of the soldiers distributed across a beach convey and unnerving isolation, as it these were there last times on earth as they look as if they are alone and deserted. • 64. A Brief Note On Wildlife Photography, And For Good Reason Wildlife photography is a very popular area to specialise in, and for good reason. It gives you a great excuse to spend extended periods of time outdoors, keeps you fit, and allows you to develop a real appreciation for the natural world. But it can also be a very challenging field too, especially since your subject is often running away from you! I 'm going to share with you 15 of my top tips so that you can start improving your wildlife photos straight away. Hopefully by the end of this article you 'll have learnt something new that will help you on your journey to becoming the next Art Wolfe. 1. Shoot on Eye–level When you 're standing up and shooting an animal on the ground, your angle of view is pointing downwards. This detracts from the photo, making the perspective seem strange. It also decreases the distance between the subject and the background, getting rid of your chance for that nice, soft bokeh (background). Instead, get onto eye–level with your subject. It brings the viewer down onto the animal 's level, creating a much more interesting perspective. It will most likely increase the distance between the subject and the background too, removing distracting elements by throwing the backdrop out of focus. 2. Learn About Your Subject Getting to know the animal you 're photographing can be a really helpful trick. If you know about an animal 's typical behavioural traits, then you will be able to predict movements or particular things you can focus on capturing. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The cinematography, sound, and narrative structure cemented Citizen Kane's legacy and influenced films of all genres for years to come. James Naremore wrote an essay that described why Citizen Kane was held up to such high regard, using examples from other scenes to highlight how the use of certain techniques help to make the film stand out. Naremore writes that Kane "is important for many reasons, among them its ingenious juggling of time and perspective, its carefully designed sound track, and its influential use of wide–angle, deep–focus photography." Citizen Kane focuses on developing scenes from the protagonist's past, and how his death has affected the secondary plot of a reporter investigating his last words. The narrative strategy, in which the whole story is told in flashback from slightly different points of view (the equivalent of the unreliable narrator in fiction), was unprecedented in a Hollywood film. The technique of telling the story of Kane from multiple points of view dispels the illusion that we are learning the "truth" about Charles Foster Kane. As numerous commentators such as Naremore have observed, the film is like a complicated jigsaw puzzle which the viewer must piece together, bit by bit, in order to see the whole picture. Only in the final moments of the film, when we despair of ever discovering the meaning of "Rosebud," does the film's narration return us to a privileged omniscient perspective, revealing the final missing piece. One scene that helps develop the unique structure is the beginning scene, with the film opening to Kane's death. Most films do not begin with the character's death, especially with a detailed scene like Citizen Kane. At the start of the film, the camera pans up and over a sign on a wire fence ... • 68. How Does I Use The Rule Of Thirds Composition? Since my photographs are all centered on the idea of depression, I chose to edit them all with a selenium tone because depression is often described as "having all of the color drained out of your life" or "seeing everything in black and white." I also chose to use less contrast in the photos that were depicting more serious aspects of depression (i.e. the one that shows the girl cutting herself), to emphasize that the deeper you sink into it the more grey and bland your life becomes, almost like nothing has definition anymore. In most of my photographs, I tried to use the Rule of Thirds composition whenever I could, but sometimes I didn't find that perspective aesthetically pleasing for my picture, so I tried a new angle. As far as framing goes, I tend to do mostly medium shots because they're what I'm most comfortable with editing, but I also took a few close ups when I felt that the photo needed more emotional emphasis. In one of my close up shots (the one with the girl looking out the window), I chose to angle it in a way that allowed her to have lookspace because I wanted to be able to blur the background and create that narrow depth of field to emphasize the part of depression in which the person is present but not really there. For all of my photographs I only use natural light along with the built in flash on my camera because when I shoot outdoors I enjoy having that lighting. I also like editing with natural light because, even though it 's kind of difficult to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 76. Analysis Of The Movie ' The Thin Red Line ' The war film is a classic genre. Today, one has a wide variety of war films from which to choose. But after watching most of them one will find that they are all quite similar. The one thing that all these films have in common, even more so than the rather similar characters, is the way the camera is used to portray life in war and on the front line. This appears to be the most traditional and theatrical approach to portraying this subject, giving the audience what we think they want. Viewers ultimately walk away saying the same thing. "men make war heroic," and with that in mind these films completely chose to ignore the alternative: that war is not heroic! War is filled with evil and hatred, and it leaves men soulless and disturbed for the remainder of their lives. Terrence Malick's The Thin Red Line ( 1998) approaches war from an entirely different angle, literally and figuratively. I will show how visual design speaks to the film's overall theme that war is not heroic, its unstable, brutal, and an internal battle for the soul of men on and off the battlefield; and, furthermore, I will demonstrate how simple aesthetic choices such as natural lighting, contrast, and color influence the elements of this film that convey this message. The scene on which I want to focus my attention is the ambush scene where the Americans emerge from the fog and bombard the Japanese camp. I found that this particular scene embodied the entire film. • 78. The Conditions Of The Marine Environment Introduction: The conditions of the marine environment place special demands on the design and use of a camera (ERT Task Sheet, 2015). An average above surface camera cannot simply be made waterproof using a camera housing in order to operate effectively underwater. There are special demands created by various aspects of the marine environment for example, the lens must be designed specifically to recorrect the distortion created by refraction and strobes must be placed away from the camera to avoid backscatter. Refraction mainly occurs when underwater photographers use a flat port (Deep Ocean Diving – Underwater vision, n.d.). These factors would be the reason as to why the camera would not produce accurate or high quality photographs of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to calculate the refractive index, this formula will be used: n_(1–2)=n_2/n_1 . For medium 1, n_1 is the absolute refractive index and for medium 2, n_2 is the absolute refractive index (Refraction of Light, 2015). When a light ray enters different medium, all molecules in that medium absorbs the light and re–emits it. This is why the light ray take longer to pass through. The more molecules the more time the light will be absorbed and re–emitted and therefore the longer it will take to pass through. Due to this difference in densities and amount of time the light ray takes to pass through, refraction occurs. This is when the light ray bends when it travels through two different mediums. This affects underwater photography as refraction occurs and the object is distorted (Underwater Holdings, 2015). Optical Underwater Issue: Refraction in Waterproof Camera Housing Underwater Figure 2: Flat Port and Dome Port Underwater Refraction is one of the major issues when it comes to underwater photography. Refraction is the apparent change in the speed of the light ray which results to a change in the direction of the ray (Kwon, 2015). Once light travels from air to water, it slows down as it come across the denser medium. This is a problem if all light rays could cross the dividing line at right angles. Refraction can be encountered when light travels from air to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
