MGM and Screen Gems announced in 2011 that they would produce a film remake of Carrie based on the Stephen King novel. The film had a $30 million budget. Sony estimated opening weekend revenues of $16-18 million but it ultimately earned $16.1 million, ranking third behind Gravity and Captain Phillips. Misher Films produced Carrie and several other films of varying financial success, though Mirror Mirror earned over $166 million. DNA Films produced 28 Days Later, which became highly profitable against a $5 million budget, earning $82.7 million worldwide. Both production companies appeal to teenagers and young adults but Misher Films offers more films and genres.
