1. Ownership
Celador was originally founded by Paul Smith (CBE) and by comedian Jasper Carrott
who was also the founder of shareholders. It was established to be a a leading
company in the UK, for production it later also expanded into TV format licensing, film
production and also radio station ownership and operation.
In 2004 Celador took legal action against Disney because it held back affair amount of
profits from the company for licensing programs in the US. At a trial in 2010 they were
awarded $269m (177m pounds) in damages after ruling failed to receive a fair share
of profits.
In 2006 all of Celador’s rights were brought by a Dutch company by the name of
2waytraffic. The profits that the company had previously acquired from Who wants to
be a millionaire and the money that they had received from Disney that it had
allowed them buy out the company so it was independent again.
2. Operating Model
To get investments from many different company and big corporations was one of the ways that Celador
actually made its films so inevitably when they had Who wants to be a millionaire they had money from there
and they were successful. In 2006 The company teamed up with film 4 to make the critically acclaimed and
award winning movie Slumdog millionaire. The film was projected to cost $15 million so the company sought a
Us film distributor to share costs. Warner independent stepped up and made a offer of $5million and won the
the rights to the picture. They had hired local cast and and crew in India when they went there to film the
movie. The same was for the movie decent but here competitors were and American company and they had
the movie cave so by hiring local talent and building the studio in London and shooting in some areas of
Scotland they brought down some of the travel costs and filmed half the movie and the cave arts in Pinewood
studio in loon on a set.

4. Market position competitors
The Descent has made a fair amount of money in 2006 by Celador a small independent film company but how
does it rank against some of the movies made by the biggest production companies.
The Descent
The descent made its name by being shot in London where majority of the film was shot in a studio including
some of the American parts to it the film was all shot in the UK where some bits where shot in Scotland it had a
budget of 3.5m GBP and it had made 57.1m USD. It was rated a 7.2/10 on IMDB and 85% rotten tomatoes.
Shaun of the dead
Shaun of the dead was a British movie directed by `Edgar Wright and written by wright and Simon Pegg the film
was shot in London and it also stared Nick Frost and Simon Pegg. The budget of the movie was 6.1m USD and at
the box office it raked in 30m USD. It was rated 8/10 on IMDB and 92% rotten tomatoes.
X-men last stand
X-men last stand is an American based movie about mutants and their abilities it was a genre of
fantasy/science fiction. The movie had a budget of 168m USD and it raked in at the box office a whooping
459.4m USD. It was 6.7/10 on IMDB and 58% rotten tomatoes.
The highest out of the three above was X-men last stand which spent 168m to make 459.4m at the box office
the second highest was The Descent which made 57.1m at the box office and the last is Shaun of the dead
which only made 30m at box office. It shows evidently that because x-men put more in they got more out but
its not quite true with the last 2 and that’s because maybe the Descent was a full blown horror movie whilst
Shaun of the dead was also a comedy. Its maybe because, The Descent had an all female cast which was never
seen before and that’s way it topped Shaun of the dead where as it made more on DVD.
