European Green Crabs
Degradation of the economy, environment and human health is caused by a variety of species.
However, the most harmful types of species are known as invasive species. An invasive species is
any species that is not native to the environment it is living in. European Green Crabs in particular
cause mass harm to their surrounding habitat. However, there are several methods put in place to
control the widespread of these creatures and minimize the harm caused by European green crabs.
The European green crab can spread accidentally and then stay and cause harm to their new
surroundings. Although these green crabs can cause serious harm, there are multiple measures in
place to minimize the degree of harm. Confirmation of European green crabs in Canada... Show

Eelgrass beds in particular are being harmed where European green crabs are abundant, because
they are the primary habitats for this invasive species. The European green crabs invade these eel
grass beds when they are searching for prey in the matter that has settled at the bottom of the
water or excavating to make burrows, this is done by cutting the roots of the eelgrass, which
destroys this ecological habitat. European green crabs have preyed on various marine life such
as species of mollusks, crustaceans and fish. The primary species that European green crabs
prey upon being shellfish. Shellfish (oyster, clam and scallops) being their primary source of
nutrition (GOV, 2016) is an issue because they then create competition for food amongst other
species such as lobster and crabs which are native to the habitat the European green crab has
invaded. Their secondary source of nutrition comes from crustaceans such as crab, crayfish,
lobster, prawns or shrimp. Additionally, Studies have shown that European green crabs will prey
upon Dungeness crabs of equal or lesser size (Peters et al. 2004). This means that European green
crabs are capable of displacing other crabs in the competition for space, food and habitat. Recently,
a study was conducted which showed a 40% drop in Manila clam harvest since the European green
crabs arrival in North America (pleus, 2017). Carcinus maenas

Coherentism and Foundationalism
Foundationalism vs. Coherentism Throughout history, philosophers have been trying to come up
with a clear way to provide the justification of our beliefs and knowledge. Noah Lemos offers
readers explanations of both foundationalism and coherentism for theories of justification. These
two different theories offer very different ways to explain the basis of our beliefs. For a
foundationalist, they believe that all of our beliefs can be broken down until we reach a basic
belief. This belief would be largely independent of other beliefs and not derived from other beliefs.
A coherentist feels that a belief can be reasonably justified if it is coheres with our other beliefs. The
foundationalist theory of justification boils everything... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A coherentist however, would justify that the pot is hot through other beliefs that cohere with
this belief. Some of these coherent beliefs would be: the remaining coffee in the pot is hot, the
coffee is freshly brewed which would mean it is hot, I can see steam coming from the coffee in
my mug, the coffee I ve had every other day this week from the same pot have been hot and I can
feel the warmth from the mug in my hand. All of these beliefs are not basic as a foundationalist
would like, but they all cohere and provide reasonable justification for me to believe that the
coffee in my mug is hot. It is my opinion that coherentists have a better argument for beliefs, and
more specifically, this example. While I do think that there are many basic beliefs that are
justified simply because they just are, I am not convinced that all the beliefs we have in this
world can be broken down quite in this way. I do however, feel that many of our beliefs are
based in a web of other believes that all support each other. I know that my coffee is hot for
many reasons, one being that I can feel it. I don t think that I necessarily need to break it down
into experiences when I have many other clues that could more easily justify my belief. There
are so many clues and beliefs around me to justify my belief that it s not necessary to try and
deduce anything. There are way too many complicated beliefs in the world that I do not feel they
can all be traced back to basic

Embryonic Stem Cell Research Pros And Cons
I am interested in the controversial topic of embryonic stem cell research. It is an interest of
mine because I have a strong like for biology, and in my AP biology class we learned about the
pros and cons on this topic and it intrigued me. My question for writing projects three and four is;
should embryonic stem cellresearch be allowed? Throughout my essay I will be describing both
sides of this controversy and explaining my opinion on it. This is the main controversial topic in
biology, many individuals think it is either the killing of an infant, and others believe it is a door
opening chance for research to finding many cures or reasons for birth defects. Stem cells are an

What Are The Similarities Between Killing Kennedy
In the book Killing Kennedy it says that Lincoln and Kennedy had many similarities, and they
do. There are many similarities between John Fitzgerald Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln. These
similarities can range from a simple year to in depth details. Details like Booth and Oswald were
both killed before being brought to trial. Most of the similarities are fact except a few like,
Lincoln had a secretary named Kennedy and Kennedy had a secretary named Lincoln. Only
Kennedy s secretary was named Lincoln, there is no record of a Kennedy. The elections and time
in office were almost exactly alike. They were both elected into congress in 46 and elected as
president in 60. Both of their predecessors left office in the 70s and retired to... Show more content

One similarity is that they were both shot in the head on Friday seated by their wives. On those
Friday s there were major holidays after. Both presidents were with another couple at the time of
their assassinations. The male of the other couple was injured during the assassination. Both of the
assassins committed the crime in the building that they were employed. One of the most amazing
facts is that Lincoln was shot at fords theatre and Kennedy was shot in a Lincoln car made by ford.
And Lincoln sat in box number seven at the theatre and Kennedy was in car number seven in the
motorcade. Another one of the most amazing facts is the John Wilkes boothfled from a theatre and
was caught in a warehouse and lee Harvey Oswald fled from a warehouse and was caught in a
theatre. There were theories that booth and Oswald were part of a greater conspiracy. Both of the
assassins died in the same moth as their victims in the state next to their state of birth. And the both
of the assassins were sympathetic to another government against the United States. Back to the
presidents now, they both had body guards that were named William. Whenever the presidents
were shot they receive medical attention right away, but there s also a similarities there too. Both
of the doctors were named Charles. Kennedy died in parkland hospital and Lincoln died in the

Recognition Of Diversity
Recognition of Diversity among a Jesuit University Diversity is a potent factor teenagers and
families look at when choosing the right college. In the twenty first century, many universities are
defined my race or religious.
One college that is known for being predominantly Christian is Fordham University. Fordham is a
Jesuit University that becomes more diverse every year, as new students join the community. The
prominent change takes hold as the community becomes increasingly diverse, but does this change
allow for equal privileges among all the students? Every year, thousands of freshman enter the gates

Maine s Suicide Prevention Program

Maine needs a better proactive prevention program for suicide. Maine s suicide rate among all ages
is unreasonably high. It is especially disconcerting to have a high rate among young adults.
According to the Maine Suicide Prevention Program, one suicide happens every two days or 180

is the second leading cause of death for ages 15 to 24; and the fourth leading cause in ages 10 to

seem to be enough. Maine has many programs in place to help. There is a specific hotline to call
for each county in Maine. If the general 1 800 number is called, it will be rerouted to the local

Evergreen Behavioral Services, a part of the Franklin Community Health Network, is the center.
Each one of these centers offer a phone intervention, support, face to face with professionals, and
treatment recommendations in the most comfortable and safe environment possible to be given to
the client. ( Maine Suicide Prevention Program ) All of these services are helpful, but reactive.

associated with each of the areas you chose?
Terms associated with emotional literacy are awareness (of one s and others feelings),
understanding , tact (being sensitive to others), control (of one s emotions and current expressions
when trying to avoid offending or creating conflict with others), empathy and sympathy.
Terms associated with singing literacy would be chest voice, head voice, mixed voice, falsetto,

The Notebook Film Elements

First Paper Assignment
The Notebook
The movie The Notebook, directed by Nick Cassavetes and released on June 5th 2004, is a
captivating love story, which takes place in the 1940 s. Through filmatic elements such as
Cassavetes choices of cinematography, editing, narrative, mise en scene, sound and music, he
creates an extremely believable story of two teenagers in the 1940 s who fell in love over the time
span of one summer. In order to create a 1940 s vibe, Cassavetes wisely uses a specific choice of
costumes, makeup and scenery to portray exactly the time period he wanted to. The main
character Allie, played by Rachel McAdams, is a free spirited 17 year old who in the beginning of
the movie is seen wearing a variety of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Music also plays a key role in reminding the audience that this movie took place in the past.
The sound used in this movie serves a large purpose. There are many scenes when Cassavetes
allows everything else to be silent and the object of focus to be the loudest in order for the
audience to truly concentrate on its meaning. Going back to the scene when Allie and Noah
dance in the street together, Cassavetes purposely makes them dance without actual music
initially and has Noah hum the tune he wishes to slow dance to, while all else is silent. The
reasoning for this is to further contribute towards Cassavetes attempts to get the audience to fall
in love with the two teenager s relationship. Dancing without music in the middle of the street
shows that the couple can have a great time with nothing else but their love and it also portrays
their free spirit and fun personalities. Another time when sound serves a specific purpose is
when Noah takes Allie to an abandoned house that he promises he will fix up when he gets older
so they can live together in it. A dusty piano in the corner intrigues Allie and she begins to play
one of her favorite slow tunes. All else is completely silent in the room as Cassavetes forces the
audience to focus on the tune she is playing, for it serves a purpose later on in the movie. When
the scenes switch back and forth between the story of Noah and Allie, and an old man narrating this
story to an old woman

The Causes Of Urbanization In Ethiopia
may even be reduced. As the population of an economy becomes wealthier, many prefer to live in
the cleaner and quieter environments of the countryside. Thus, employees need to commute into
cities for work, for which the necessary requirements, such as public transport or individual car
ownership, are only given in more developed countries. Cities in developing countries, on the other
hand, still continue to grow. Only the pace is two to five times faster than it was in the European
countries during the period of industrialization (Kojima, 1996). Many developing countries in the
world are currently experiencing an unprecedented rate of urbanization. It is also clear that, unlike
the experience of currently developed countries, the process of urbanization presently taking place
in developing countries is not so much due to rapid industrialization. Rather, it is the consequence
of growing population pressure on land in the rural areas (Kassahun, 2000). Urbanization has
largely taken place as a result of the push of rural inhabitants to urban areas (International Labour
Organization 1998). Like many developing countries, Ethiopia remains among one of the least
urbanized countries in the world. In Ethiopia, Informal settlement is socially, politically and
economically growing problems, usually referred to residential areas where a group of housing
units have been constructed on land to which the occupants have no legal claim or which they
occupy illegally. Using the Ethiopian

The Individual and Technology A Contemporary Issue
GENETIC PROFILING

Executive Summary
Effects of Technology
The Australian Institute of Criminology has produced documentations explaining the technique of
DNA identification compares the DNA of two bodily samples to ascertain whether or not they came
from the same human being. Identity of DNA in the cells across both samples implies that the
samples are derived from the same person (or identical twins); non identity implies different human
sources.
Beginning in the mid 1980s, the development of DNA analysis technology has revolutionised the
field of forensic science within the criminal justice system. As the refinement of procedures and
technology continues, even minute samples of biological material (including blood, saliva, semen
and skin cells) are able to be analysed and used to link or acquit perpetrators of crimes. (Whitney, R

Love and Desire in Twelfth Night Essay
According to Merriam Webster s Collegiate Dictionary, love is defined as strong affection for
another arising out of kinship or personal ties; attraction based on sexual desire; affection and
tenderness felt by lovers; affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interest; or an
assurance of love. In William Shakespeare s Twelfth Night, three different types of love are
experienced: friendship love, true love, and self love. Each character experiences a different type
of love, and in some cases it is not what they originally expected. The twisted, yet intriguing love
story allows the reader to get lost in each characters emotions and development throughout the play.

Despite knowing that Orsino loves Olivia, Viola almost immediately falls in love with Orsino.
And because Viola is disguised as a man, she cannot show her true feelings for Orsino. After Orsino
asks Viola to speak with Olivia and professes his love to her, Viola lets the reader know what she is
truly feeling by saying Yet a barful strife! Whoe er I woo, myself would be his wife (Act 1,
Scene 4, Line 40). This shows that even though she is willing to help Orsino pursue Olivia,
Viola ultimately wants to marry Orsino. Viola s love for Orsino is revealed again at the end of
Act 2, Scene 4. Orsino is asking Viola to try harder in the quest for Olivia and he basically says
that there is no love more noble or great as his, so she must love him. Viola then proceeds to say
that maybe Olivia doesn t love him; however, there is someone out there that does. She says:

As you have for Olivia. You cannot love her;

This is Viola confessing her true feelings for Orsino. She is telling him that she is the one who

that it literally hurts her heart. She then continues to say that her father had a daughter who loved a

Long Lost Family
Several seasons back, there was a program on one of the cable television stations entitled Long
Lost Family . The premise of the program was to reunite family members who had been separated
for many years, sometimes decades, to make a family whole again. Sometimes the story was about
parents and children lost through adoption or custody situations. Most frequently, it was about
siblings who, because of family feuds or other dysfunctions, had been apart for many years.
Sometimes other siblings had polarized around the two who were separated, causing increased
tensions and rifts. Interestingly, many times the true cause of the rift as lost to time and memory.
Frequently, it came down to miscommunication and pride, a form of standing ground to not appear
weak or guilty. Through the intercession of the host of the program, the separated siblings would
communicate, have an opportunity to explain or make amends, and then reunite. At the end of the
program, the producers would post an update on how well the reunion and rebuilding of family
ties was progressing. It was always clear that rebuilding of the family ties would take time and
effort on both sides.
The analogy of disconnected family members is used frequently in the discussion of the centuries
long rift between Catholics and Jews. It is apt. For, in the 50 years since the promulgation of
Nostra Aetate by Pope Paul VI, Catholics and Jews have come far in healing 2,000 years of
miscommunication, false pride,

Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) syndrome is a condition that affects the joints between your jaw
and your skull. The TMJs are located near your ears and allow your jaw to open and close. These
joints and the nearby muscles are involved in all movements of the jaw. People with TMJ
syndrome have pain in the area of these joints and muscles. Chewing, biting, or other movements of
the jaw can be difficult or painful.
TMJ syndrome can be caused by various things. In many cases, the condition is mild and goes
away within a few weeks. For some people, the condition can become a long term problem.

This painting shows a Native American tribe on a snowy hill. They are watching a train pass by
diagonally below them. The party appears to be travelling somewhere together. Several of the
individuals are horseback riding while the others are walking. ItВґs looks like they are fleeing from
something, almost as these people are vanishing away from reality. This Trail of Tears
that they are
riding/walking on was the the path that displaced North American Indian tribes from their land east
of the Mississippi River to the Indian Territory, the area that later became Oklahoma. The term
Trail of Tears comes from a text that describes the movement of the Cherokee, Muscogee, Seminole,

Slotkin illustrates the emergence by 1890 of a myth that was redefined to help Americans answer
the misperception and conflict of the industrialization and grand extension. In The Fatal
Environment, Richard Slotkin proves in what way the myth of frontier growth and defeat of the
Native Americans helped to validate the progression of Americas final stand as a symbol for
whatever Americans feared might occurred if the frontier were to be closed, and the violent part be
allowable to rule the civilized, Slotkin displays the rise by 1890 of a fable redefined to support
Americans answer to the misunderstanding and contention of industrialization and grand extension.
Sweeney is comparing The Fatal Environment to The Morning of a New Day.
He argues that the reason why Farny s Morning of a New Day attract few imitators is because of
the ambivalent image of the fatal environment within it. The fact that it represents the genocide of
the Native American tribes was the result the dominant bourgeois group s belief in its self
proclaimed manifest destiny to take the West from the Native Americans by military conquest,
through technological and entrepreneurial superiority, or if necessary by outright theft. (Page 141)

Labor Union And Labor Unions Essay
Labor union history began when the National Labor Union (NLU) was founded in 1866. After
the creation of this union, several followed after. Many riots occurred during this time, the
Haymarket Riot was one of the main reasons that the American Federation of Labor (AFL) was
created. The AFL will be a major part in the labor movement in the future. Labor unions began
due to the need to protect the workers. These labor unions formed to fight for reasonable hours,
better pay, and safer working conditions. These stipulations that the labor unions pushed for did
not come from greed. Many laborers were dying from different jobs. People were required to
work 12 or more hour days, 7 days a week for such a small amount of pay. Due to the
overworking of these laborers, it caused them to make mistakes. Not only were companies over
working these people, they were hiring inexperienced people with little to no training. Thousands
upon thousands of people died because of this. To prevent this from occurring labor unions were
created to ne the barrier between a company and the workers, the unions are there to help
negotiate any stipulations the workers may request. However, after the early to mid 1900 s the
attendance and membership of unions declined drastically. In the past 50 years the membership in
labor unions have decreased, and at a rapid pace. There are many reasons why the membership has

Moving With Your Pet Cat Essay
Moving with your pet cat is harder than moving with other pets. This is because cats have hard
times adjusting. Cats have minds of their own and they are likely to stick closely to their usual
routines. You might always think that moving is very tiring and stressful but your cat is more
stressed. He doesn t know what s going on, of course. Even he is just a pet. You must consider his
needs in order to have a stress free moving. It will bring ease to your catand to you. To help your
cat understand what s going on, pack early. He will notice the things in your house kept little by
little and it will surely give him an idea that you ll be going to a new place soon. In a matter of
time, your cat will be adjusting to the boxes around your house that he ll start sniffing and
maybe even sleeping on them. Just like a human being, shocking your cat by packing only a few
days before moving will depress him and make him anxious. Never make any sudden,
unnecessary changes especially in your cat s daily routine. Feed him the usual time you feed
him. Let him find his place in the house where he ll be comfortable enough to sleep and play in
that area. Keep his toys near so that he won t wander. Make sure that he still gets the same
treatment that he gets before. These things will make him feel that no matter where you take him,
he still feels at home and secure. Don t forget to buy your cat a new Id tag with your latest home

The Western Springs Fire Department Is The Low Amount Of...
Introduction
The fiscal problem that the Western Springs Fire Department has is the low amount of paid on call
firefighters. If the department looks at these different ways to receive money, they can provide
incentives to draw in future firefighters. Solutions would be to pay a higher hourly rate as well as
implement education tuition funds for the firefighters. As a result, the Department would be able to
offer more incentives to their new firefighters which would lead to increased amount firefighters
that will want to apply at this fire department. This will structure the department to stand out from
the other paid on call departments.
Body
Identify the problem
The fiscal problem is that there are not enough paid on call firefighters to respond to calls.
Recruiting more firefighters to the Western Springs Fire Department would be a benefit to the
department as well as the village. The department would have enough firefighters to control the
all calls by mitigating the problem and save life/ property. This would also eliminate the need of
calling and rely on other departments to respond to the villages own 911 call. If the fire
department has extra beneficial items to offer to the new firefighters it could attract more
firefighters to join and this would stop the fiscal problem.
Offer solutions to the problem
This Fire Department can explore multiple ways to attract future recruits into Western Springs.
Perhaps, this organization can look at other fire departments around

Comparing A Doll s House and Oedipus Rex Essay
Comparing A Doll s House and Oedipus Rex
Ibsen s drama A Doll s House , serves as an example of the kind of issue based drama that
distinguishes Ibsen from many of his contemporaries. The play s dialogue is not poetic, but very
naturalistic, and the characters are recognizable people. Given the sense of modernity which the
play possesses it seems unusual to compare it to a Greek tragedy produced more than two thousand
years previously.
On closer examination however, there are certain similarities between the way in which A Doll s
House is plotted and a tragedy such as Oedipus Rex. Both Oedipus and A Dolls House depict
disastrous events that occur to two very different characters. At the start of Oedipus, we... Show

impossible. This virtuous act is of course a massive error since it leads him to his real parentsIt is
interesting to note that Nora only borrows money in A Doll s House in an attempt to save the
life of her sick husband. Her act of kindness misguided as it may be, is the catalyst for the events
that follow. The way in which the actions of both Nora and Oedipus backfire in such a tragic
way is an example of what in Greek literary tradition is known as Peripitia. This word translates
as a reversal and to gain an understanding of the tragic condition it is important that the theme of
reversal is examined. In Oedipus there are many examples of reversal, when actions have the
exact opposite effect to that which were intended. When Oedipus sends for the shepherd whom he
hopes will allay his fear, over his parentage, his arrival has the exact opposite effect. In this respect
the tow plays are very similar they employ many of the same dramatic devices to achieve their
goals.
Reversal is key to both plays since by the end of both plays the social conditions of both Oedipus
and Nora have changed completely. It is interesting to note that unlike a Shakespearean drama in
which the tragic hero always dies, neither Oedipus nor Nora die.

Web 2.0 Changed the Web Culture into a New Page
Web 2.0
Over the past 10 years, many significant changes have been taken by the appearance of the new
Web 2.0 which turns the web culture into a new page. This new platform brought us a new way to
share information, connect communicate, accomplish the business transactions, and foster
creativity and cooperation among users. Instead of the dominant of web creators and the owners of
web company, the new Web 2.0focuses more on user that allow us, varied participants, to create,
design, and control the content of the Web while deliberately interacting with other creator and
sharing our thoughts, our personal interests and our inventions. With the arrival and new
dissemination of Web 2.0, the controversy increases. Personally, Web 2.0 made the online
experience more convenient, enjoyable and free than ever before.
First and foremost, one of the most notable breakthrough of the Web 2.0 is the improvement in
search engines including Google, Yahoo, and Bing. Tim O Reiley convincingly stated about the
new experiences that Google brought into our life in his article Web 2.0: Design Patterns and
Business Models rather than providing information though selling an owner product of the older
company like Netscape, in the Web 1.0. Google, by contrast, began its life as a native Web
application, never sold or packaged, but delivered as a service, with customers paying, directly or
indirectly, for the use of that service. None of the trappings of the old software industry are present.

Soybean Hydroponics in the Arctic Tundra
Soybean Hydroponics in the Arctic Tundra
Abstract: Soybeans will be grown hydroponically in the arctic tundra. Greenhouses will be used
to extend the possible growing season. Soybeans can serve two good purposes. They can be
used as food or as a way to make biofuel. This is great for the arctic environment where it is
difficult to get supplies such as food and gasoline. With a steady supply of food and fuel more
research can be done in this harsh environment. The goals are to produce the highest output of
soybeans possible hydroponically and to convert what is not wanted for food into biofuel. Another
goal is to show that hydroponics can be used on a commercial level and hopefully get more

In the United States biofuel production has grown a lot over the last two decades. In 1995
production was at 500,000 gallons, by 2005 it was 75 million gallons, and by 2006 it was at 224
million gallons [Biofuels 13]. The main plant used in the United States biofuel production was
the soybean [Biofuels 13]. Currently 4 percent of the world s demand for primary energy comes
from biofuels. The more popular and more well known hydropower only provides 2 percent of
the world s primary energy demand [Maugeri 10]. Most modern cars can use up to a 10 percent
biofuel mix in their engines without any modifications, though some cars called flex fuel can use
100 percent biofuel or gasoline [Maugeri 10]. One big advantage to using biofuel is that it
produces a higher octane rating than gasoline which helps improve engine performance [Maugeri
10]. Biofuels currently cost a little more to make compared to gasoline at about a ten to eight ratio
respectively [Sanders 10]. Hopefully with more farms producing the components for making
biofuels hydroponically it can help drive the price down to where it can be competitive with
gasoline and one day completely replace it.
Methodology: Since the soybeans are going to be grown in the arctic tundra a greenhouse will be
used to extend the growing season which is typically 10 12 weeks to much longer. Soybeans grow
best at somewhere between 60 86 degrees Fahrenheit [Jones 05]. Grow lights will be used in the
greenhouse when there is

My Participant Observation Of Marijuana
When I first started thinking about my participant observation I had numerous ideas of what I
could learn, but as I started to think about what I should do, then I realized I just started my own
participant observation that I was already extremely dedicated to so I decided I could write it

Nemerov s The Vacuum
The Vacuum is a poem about the emptiness of an old man after his wife died. Nemerov started
by presenting the environment in which the old man lived in. He also pointed out that the
vacuum cleaner was in a corner, seemingly grinning (4) at him. He then stated that after his old
wife has passed away, she seemed to be inside the vacuum cleaner (8, 9), cleaning up the house
whenever the old man used it. The poet further expressed his feeling of loneness by recalling his
days with his wife, where she crawl (s), in the corner and under the stairs . (12) At the end,
Nemerov expressed his views on his life, how it was like dirt (13), without the company of his wife.

the vacuum cleaner is used, in which a howling sound will be heard and the machine sucks in

Virtual Reality and Nursing Essay
The intention of virtual reality is to help the user relate, assess, as well as manipulate the
environment, which is computer generated (Weiss, and Jessel, 1998). The practice and use of
computerized capability is swiftly increasing in nursing school and in healthcare. An evolving
computer technology tactic for nursing learning is the application of virtual realitysimulation. This
computer built three dimensional information tool mimics patients in real life in a safe
environment, allowing recurring rehearsal sessions, it involves clinical assessment, and it helps
students discover different situations among patients, and it also offers immediate response. This is

Steady Defense Business Growth The Boeing Company s defense business has been growing
steadily over the past few years. Revenues from the integrated defense system grew from $27,361
million in 2003 to $30,791 million in 2005. The defense business accounts for over 55% of the
company s revenues. Continued strong performance of this division of the Boeing Company would
counter any downturn in the commercial aircraft industry (DATAMONITOR).
Strong Growth from Developing Geographic Markets The Boeing Company has registered
strong growth in the developing markets in China, Oceania and Africa (Boeing Frontiers, Nov.
2005). For the fiscal year 2005, revenues from China grew by 87.9%; revenues from Oceania
grew by $32; and revenues from Africa grew 61.8% over the 2004 fiscal year. These regions
represent some of the fastest growing economies of the world. The Boeing Company s growing
market share in these regions would boost the company revenues of the future (DATAMONITOR).
Strategic Analysis and Choice
The main objective of Boeing s strategy is to analyze the commercial aircraft industry, to understand
the demand that is present, and to formulate a solution that will fulfill that segment. Currently, there

Madonna Of The Goldfinch Essay
1. Composition is the organization, or arrangement, of forms in a work of art. When art
historians analyze composition, they focus on the overall arrangement and organizing design or
structure of a work of art. Madonna of the Goldfinch is a painting by Raphael. The three figures,
the Madonna and her two boys, are arranged in a triangular shape at the center of the painting.
The artist emphasized this by opening the clouds to show a patch of blue in the middle of the sky,
and by situating delicate trees around the figural group. This is a bilaterally symmetrical
composition, because the Madonna is at the center of the painting while the two boys are divided
between the two sides of the triangular shape approximately equidistant from the painting s center.
On either side of an implied vertical line at the center of the painting, known as an axis, there are
equivalent forms on the left and right which are balanced and complimented in a... Show more

The aspect of the case study of Rogier van der Weyden s Philadelphia Crucifixion that was
especially interesting to me was the cultural context. I found this to be the most interesting
because, to me, the cultural context is what gives immense meaning to a work of art. By
knowing an artist s intended audience, an artist s goals, the context of the time and place a work
was created, and the background and experiences of the artist, works of art are given much deeper
meaning. This painting is not simply a painting depicting the pain those closest to Jesus suffered as
a result of his crucifixion; rather, this painting is associated with extremely important moments in
the life of the artist, such as his religious pilgrimage to Rome in 1450 and the initiation of his
eldest son as a Carthusian monk at around the same time. The artist, whether this panel painting
had been created as a donation to the chapel of St. Catherine at Herrines or not, shows how the

In the world of accounting, cost accounting serves as managers go to system for cost information.
As previously mentioned, cost accounting is a specialized subset of accounting that collects,
determines, classifies, and interpret the cost of products or services. In addition, the concepts of
cost accounting are to account for the incurrence and control of cost and measure the operating
efficiency of a company on a periodical basis. Cost accounting, as defined here, deals with the rest

Activity based costing (ABC) Method
While analyzing how companies within the service industry utilize activity based cost (ABC),
Onat, Anitsal, Anitsal, (2014), stated that Activity based costing (ABC) focuses on the idea that
activities create costs, while products use activities to gain value added. (pg. 150). In general, this
means that the theory behind activity based costing (ABC) method is that merchandises or
services consume activities and activities consume resources. When used, activity based costing
first recognizes key activities that create overhead costs. Secondly, the activities that have similar
cost drivers are then categorized into cost pools, and finally allocates the total overhead costs for
products and services by computing absorption rate of each cost pool, respectively. Some issues
associated with activity based costing (ABC) is that it is expensive to implement and data can
easily be misrepresented. One of the critical issue company encounter while utilizing the activity
based costing method is that it is difficult to separate some overhead costs the CEO of the company

Some of us may suggest investing the pension into stock. But I believe more that most of us will
say No for such proposal because of its high risk. But don t worry, you are not alone.
In 1998, some NPC member had already give suggestions like this. The Prime Minister Zhu, he
said NO to this suggestions because of the high risk in stock. We must keep safety first. So such
proposal is killed at that time. If anyone who is interested in his speech, you could find out his idea
in Mr.Zhu s Speech Record .
In 2012, the same investing plan was proposed again, just like 14 years most people still reject or
doubt at such plan. But at this time, the government accepted the proposal and made a realistic
schedule for it because the situation of pension was worse than 14 years ago. In the government
schedule, they will invest 30% of pension insurance into stock and stock bond, the totally amount is
about 600 billion.
Do you feel scared with this plan? Obviously the answer is yes. Pls look at index of shanghai
security since 1990. We could find out that the annual return of stock is about 14%. This diagraph
shows the annual return of bond is about 3.5%. The difference between them is more than 10%.
What is your feeling? Better or not?
We can see the risk of return from stock is much better than bond. But why people still prefer to
invest the money in bond? Maybe it is because of the myopic loss aversion, people always try to
check the risk

Genetically Foods Should Be Approved For Human Consumption
Genetically engineered foods are defined as foods that have had genes from other animals or
plants (hereby referred to as foreign genes) added onto their genetic codes. The genetic engineering
technique can be employed on animals, plants, or on such microorganisms as bacteria (NIH). The
question of whether foods derived from such organisms should be approved for human
consumption is what has raised widespread controversy among many circles. There are those who
view GM foods as the ultimate solution to major challenges of the 21st century while others see
them as a threat to human health and the environment. Notably, the global society is facing major
challenges key among them being foodinsecurity and environmental issues such as global warming
and climate change. Genetically engineered foods present a potential solution to these challenges.
This paper will argue that with adequate research and regulation, genetically engineered foods
should be approved owing to the benefits they present in terms of increased food production and
quality, as well as eliminating the need to compromise the environment in the pursuit of more
cultivation land and higher crop yield. In my view, we certainly need genetically engineered foods
to fight food insecurity that characterizes the global society. A look at related statistics denotes a
population that is facing serious food securitychallenges. According to the Food and Agriculture

Comparing Glaucon s And Socrates Arguments
In Republic II, Glaucon and Socrates pose the question of whether justice is intrinsically good, or
instrumentally good. Further, the two men wish to discover which life is best the just life or the
unjust one. While Glaucon argues that the unjust life is best, Socrates argues that the just life is
truly better. In this paper, I will summarize both Glaucon s and Socrates arguments, and provide a
critical analysis of the opposing views.
Glaucon begins Republic II by describing different types of goods and by placing them into
categories beginning with those that are valued for their own sake (Plato 399). In this category what
is good is not sought after for its ability to achieve something, but only for its inherent worth as
an end in itself. For Glaucon, joy is an intrinsically valuable good that we appreciate merely
because it is joyful to have joy. Glaucon describes the next category of goods as those that not
only have intrinsic value, but also those that provide an additional service such as health (Plato
399). Lastly, Glaucon describes a category of goods that are valued only for their instrumental
ability, and are worthless upon losing said ability. To elaborate on this last category of goods, a
hammer is valued not because it is a hammer, but because it can hammer and once it can no
longer hammer it is no longer valued. Following this separation of goods, Socrates adopts
Glaucon s view and adds to it a new dynamic by ranking the groups, and placing justice where

Up Until Recently, Hoarding Has Been Classified As A Subtype
Up until recently, hoarding has been classified as a subtype of obsessive compulsive disorder.
However, the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM 5 )has now
included a separate diagnostic entry for hoarding. Hoarding Disorder affects anywhere from 3
6% of the general population (Allan, et. al. 2015). Hoarding is defined as the acquisition and
inability to let go of a large number of possessions, resulting in clutter that precludes the use of
living spaces for their intended purposes (Chong, et. al. 2014). In addition to being associated
with obsessive compulsive disorder, hoarding disorder has been linked to all three dimensions of

Furthermore, these individuals may hold a significant sentimental attachment to numerous objects.
This often leads to clutter and disorganization within the hoarders household. Hoarding is further
broken down by four major elements. These key elements are as follows: excessive acquiring,
failure to discard possessions, clutter, and distress and impairment due to hoarding (Gillam, Tolin,
2010). Hoarders acquire their possessions in a multitude of ways. These ways include compulsive
buying, attainment of free objects, and in severe cases, stealing. Individuals oftentimes spend hours
looking for objects to bring back home. Those who hoard describe the procurement of objects as
very exciting and even report feeling frugal because of their finds. Certain hoarding individuals also
find enjoyment out of hunting for new objects to bring back home. In addition, these same
individuals also report feeling discomfort and agitation when trying to refrain from buying objects.
Those with hoarding disorder feel that the attainment of objects brings them positive emotions
similar to those one may experience when they have impulse control disorders like gambling.
Individuals with hoarding disorder have difficulties throwing out things that the general population
would view as garbage or unusable. Similar to the general population, who hates being wasteful or
throwing away objects that may be useful in the future,

Republicans praise the middle class but preach that giving the wealthy tax breaks will give us
all relief in return. Which leads us all to ask, what is the true cause of middle class suffering? In
this analysis, I have selected The Phantom Menace: What War on the Middle Class by Clive
Crook and A TED Talk on Income Inequality by Nick Hanauer for comparison. These readings
place focus on issues within the middle class in America. Hanauer appears to think that low
wages and unfair taxation are the main culprit of middle class struggle. However, Clive Crook
feels strongly that these economic inequities are so small compared to other growing problems
for the middle class. Nick Hanauer holds a valid point about income inequality being an
important issue, but I am not convinced it is the largest problem the middle class faces. Clive
Crook s article leads me to believe a stifling combination of broken social systems and having a

inequality itself.
Nick Hanauer is a self proclaimed capitalist. In his live conference A TED Talk on Income

Consideration is what each party receives in return for each party s promise in the contract. In

that she will look into it and unfortunately for Nora, does not guarantee a resolution to the

and this does grant her rights and freedom, from defenses such as fraud in the inducement in the

Summer Vacation
It s not often that our family gets to fly back to the states to visit family so when my brother and
I flew back during the summer of 2015, we were more than excited to be going back to South
Carolina to see close relatives that we d been missing. Since our relatives live on the coast it is
often customary to visit the beach during our vacation to kick back and enjoy ourselves. After
moving to Germany our experience with the sunand beach had been little to none. Needless to say,
we were all excited to be going to the beach again since it had been some years and we d
forgotten what it was like to be at one. That summer vacation my brother and I were quickly
reminded of all the fun to be had, the people we could meet, and the lessons we could learn while
we were at the beach. When first arriving at the beach we were greeted by the sights of wet sand,
crashing waves, strong blowing winds, and a hot radiating sun. After the initial setup of towels,
umbrellas, and applying of sunscreen my cousins, brother and I bolted for the waves that rose
up the shore. Swimming in a pool is nothing like swimming in the ocean, everything felt more
extreme as we floated over waves and were dragged around by the current. It wasn t long until
my brother and I were reminded of a childhood joy of ours, which was facing off against the
waves. We would swim to a place where we could stand firmly and try to remain standing as waves
would crash down often taking us with them. When we d finish our fun

Oral Communication Reflection
Back on Tuesday, September 19, I (along with the rest of the class,) gave my first speech in Oral
Communication Class. It was our first speech assigned/presented in class, and its topic, Self
Introduction. Some people may find it challenging, but I see it as a very simple subject to talk
about. Who knows more about you than yourself? No one! So why do people find it so hard to
talk about? I had a funny feeling that the day the order of our speeches were assigned that I d be
the first person to give their speech. Sure enough, I was the first person to give their speech. I m
genuinely glad that I was first because I was able to get it out of the way and not have to stress
on it. Giving a speech in front of my peers is nowhere near as nerve racking or terrifying as I
thought it would be, but upon giving my speech, I would like to reflect on how I felt the day of
my speech (in terms of confidence levels,) some verbal and delivery skills which I used well/not
as well, some improvements that could of been put in place for my speech, and who in the class
I believe gave the best speech among us all. First off, how I felt on the day of our first speech. I
m not going to say that I was 100% confident in myself and not nervous at all, because that s
simply not true, but all in all I felt pretty good and I wasn t really that nervous. Since I m used to
speaking in front of people, I wasn t nervous about talking in front of my peers but forgetting
what I m talking about in my speech since I m used to memorizing and not just speaking out in
front of people. The only thing I could think of which I could do to make me less nervous than
what I was on the day of my speech would be to go practice more in front of people who aren t my
friends. Otherwise, I believe I used my skill of performing in theatre and transposed it into my
speech so I wouldn t be nervous upon giving my speech. In speaking of skills, the next topic I d
like to address is some skills which I used well/not so well. Some verbal skills I believe I used well
(in the content) would be connecting to the audience with funny little examples of a side topic I
was talking about. An example of this would be when I said as red head, I could either be Peter
Pan at

Into Thin Air Analysis
Imagine yourself, a lover for mountaineering, desired to attain the top of Mt. Everest, but suddenly
the government puts this sport as illegal. How would you react? Well, a majority of people say
that mountaineering should be forbidden because of an incident that happened in 2014 where a
huge wedge of ice fell off and killed 16 Nepalese out of the 25 that were there. I understand that
many of the people that explore till the top of the mountain know the risks and are able to
understand them and for that, I believe that mountaineeringshould not be illegal. Therefore, I am
going to explain reasons why it should not be prohibited.
While mountain climbing is a dangerous sport, the chances of death have been reduced
significantly. Jon Krakauer, author of Into Thin Air, has determined the ratio of deaths caused
because of mountaineering has now dropped from 1 death for every 4 attempts to 1:60 (Source
one). It is seen that because of the development of items over the years, many of the symptoms that
climbers usually experience include: high altitude cerebral edema and high altitude pulmonary
edema, have been prevented with the use of special steroids. Also, bottled oxygen has been seen on
many mountaineers allowing them to breathe easier in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Everest and has supposedly risked his company s reputation. Two years after, 16 out of the 25
Nepalese guides were killed from the exact wedge of ice which led to the question if
mountaineering should be banned (Source two). There were many ways that this incident could
ve been avoided. If Brice and his group escaped out safely, then why didn t they tell anyone about
the enormous wedge of ice that averted them from going any further? If there was a flag that said
HAZARD ABOVE, then it would have been evaded easily. In my opinion, I believe that in this
situation, Brice should be the one to be

Drug Addiction
Drug Addiction
A drug addiction is an ongoing need to use drugs. It is also called substance dependence, because
the person may depend on drugs to continue functioning normally. Like any addiction, it involves a
craving, or strong want, that is very hard to control.[1] When the addict is no longer able to use the
drug, they will suffer from withdrawal.[2]
A person usually become addicted to specific kinds of drugs, the use of which may or may not be
against the law.
A person who may easily become addicted to drugs is said to have an addictive personality. The
Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders defines drug addiction as a mental disorder.

He gave the soon to be called Baby Boomers an effective alternative to the prevalent drug culture.
He called it the 3HO (healthy, happy, holy) way of life.
[photopress:YB_September_1970.jpg,full,centered]In 1973, Yogi Bhajan founded 3HO
SuperHealth, a remarkably successful drugless, drug rehabilitation program, blending the proven
ancient yogic wisdom of the East with the modern technology of the west. The philosophy of 3HO
SuperHealth was based upon the belief that natural healing techniques such as Kundalini Yoga,
meditation, special diets, hydrotherapy, and massage utilized in a structured environment such as a
holistic therapeutic community, are the most effective way of treating people who have problems
with addictions. 3HO s SuperHealth Program had excellent results helping thousands of individuals
to not only free themselves from alcohol or drugs but to begin to lead a life without negative
addictions. SuperHealth was accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare
Organization and received its highest commendation. In 1973 it distinguished itself as being in the
top 10% of all treatment programs throughout the U.S, with a recovery rate of 91%. Then in 1989
Yogi Bhajan met with then President Mikhail Gorbachev and established addiction treatment
programs in Russia based on the 3HO SuperHealth model. Since 1993 Yogi Bhajan had also been

Haiti Earthquake Research Paper
The Haiti earthquake of 2010 was a 7.0Mw. The focus was 13 km deep close by Haiti s capitol
Port Au Prince. It was determined that this was a left lateral fault in association with many strike
slip faults in the surrounding areas. This earthquake was part of the Enriquillo Plantain Garden
fault zone which causes many strike slip fault earthquakes as it slides part the Caribian plate as well
as the North American plate.
The epicenter of this earthquake was relatively shallow at 13km, which caused there to be more
traumatic shaking. It was given a 9 on the Mercalli scale for the destructive shaking. Nearly two
weeks after this event, a Tsunami hit a little town called Petit Paradis stated to be a result of the Haiti
earthquake.

Maintenance Management Systems for Malaysian Heritage...
Heritage buildings as described by Feilden (2000) are buildings that give us a sense of wonder
and make us want to know more about people and culture that produce it . A more elaborate
definition was made by Kamal and Harun (2002) where they defined them as buildings built in the
past which have high historical and architectural values and require continuous care and protection
to preserve their historical, architectural, aesthetic, archaeological, spiritual, social, political and
economic values. In other words, heritage buildings are expected to have an indefinite life span,
signifying that they should be preserved for as long as possible. This was also pointed out by
Feilden (1982) where stated that heritage buildings differ from... Show more content on

He categorized them into four major architectural styles namely MOORISH (Old general post
office built in 1894), TUDOR (Royal Selangor club built in 1884), NEO CLASSICAL
(Municipal council building in George town built in 1879) and NEO GOTHIC (Carcosa mansion
built in 1897). The survival of heritage buildings in Malaysia has been extremely under threat for
quite some time now. A large number of heritage buildings are decaying due to age, neglect, and
high maintenance cost while many have been destroyed during the building boom of the 1970s.
Moreover, large scale urban development continues to jeopardize their existence. Mustapa et al
(2007) noted that destroying heritage buildings is as good as wiping out historical memories. He
affirmed that conserving these buildings became necessary in order to avert an ugly scenario of
losing the nations historical and architectural memories. As defined by Ahmad (2009), building
conservation relates to the processes of maintenance, repair, and restoration of heritage buildings
with the aim of prolonging a building s life and function . In other words, building conservation is
the action taken to prevent decay by adopting approaches that extend the life of heritage building.
For the purpose of this study, there is a need to clarify some building conservation terminologies to
avoid some common misconceptions in the

The Second Period
I finished weighing in and began to warm up. Same routine as always and soon I was up next.
Ankle bands on and ball of my foot on the line. A handshake, a whistle, and the match begins.
The first takedown came quicker in this match than it did in the last. I tied up, hand fought, and
set up my shots. The match was going my way and I wrestled smart through every scramble,
keeping the upper hand. It was the third period and I had a decent lead. I got another takedown
and turned him to his back. For a second I swear I had him pinned but the referee was not in
position to see it until my opponent was able to put a sliver of space between his shoulder and the
mat. The third period came to an end and I got my hand raised for the 40th time that... Show more

He was tall, the tallest wrestler in the bracket which was a problem for me since I m short and
stocky. Tyler, my wrestlingpartner was six feet tall so that helped me prepare when wrestling taller
opponents. Same game plan regardless and the match began.
In the first period I got in deep on several shots but he was able to get out of bounds and cause us
to reset in the middle of the mat. The second period began and it was my choice of position.
Usually I would choose to defer to the second period but since it was 0 0, I chose bottom position.
In the event of sudden death overtime the wrestler who scored first gets to choose whether they
want to be on top or bottom position. The first overtime would be one minute in the neutral
position and if no one scored then it would be two 30 second periods with each wrestler getting a
chance at top and bottom position. If it s still tied after that we would go to a 30 second sudden
death victory in referee s position, which is the starting position with one wrestler on top and the
other on bottom. An escape is more likely than turning and getting back points so that s why I
chose to take bottom in the second period.
I got the escape quickly and was up 1 0. Escapes were another thing I was really good at. The
wrestling club I went to, DC Elite, taught me to be an expert at takedowns and escapes. Becoming
an expert at what you re good at will improve you faster

Disadvantages Of Software Development
It is a working method. It allows two developers work together on the same piece of code, or
work on the same workstation at the same time. When a developer is editing the code and the
other developer can examine the code. The developer who is editing the code called Driver ,
another developer called Observer . In fact, two developers often change roles. In pair
programming, Observer considers the direction of the work, make suggestions about improvement,
or problems that may arise in the future. This allows the driver to focus their attention on
completing the task.
Advantage:
1. Programmer can help each other, learn from each other, meanwhile you may solve problems
more easily. This method improves not only work effectively but also programming environment.
2. Improve the quality of the code and because there are two developers work together, it reduces
the bugs.

Midori Samurai Cultural Analysis
For our culture unit project, my family and I visited the Midori art museum and Samurai, a local
Japanese restaurant. Both of these locations have provided plenty of information about the
manifestation of the cultures they originated from. For example, the insides of Samurai and Midori
had an unmissable Asian style and flair throughout the entire establishment. On the outside, Samurai
takes on the appearance of a Japanese temple. Samurai and Midori have provided pleasant
experiences, memories and people to chat with. Samurai is a Teppanyaki steakhouse which means
customers gather around a specialized table that includes a built in grill and observe a chef prepare
their meal for them. Another example of material cultureis that the restaurant... Show more content

Due to the location being an art museum, there were no special tools needed to view the art
with. Moreover, Midori did not display any evidence of another country s allegiance or presence
inside or outside of the gallery. However, Midori presented a great deal of figures and statues
which conveyed messages of superstition and religion. For example, Kaeru, a statue of two frogs
on top of each other, represents well being and good fortune. In addition, a netsuke of the Shinto
god of happiness, Hotei, is another example of Midori s attitude towards the unknown. The
beautiful art pieces at Midori mainly featured different types of plants and dragons but also was
accompanied by Japanese structures and language. Other than statues and wall art, Midori also
sold various types of eastern furniture such as table, chairs, screens, cabinets, and large drawers
known as Tansu. Signs of other languages at Midori is shown in the art and scrolls they display and
sell. The scrolls and paintings reflect unique forms of communicating the Japanese language by
taking advantage of special techniques. The most common technique used in the various scrolls is
Sosho or grass writing which means to use a fluid, continuous

  • 2. European Green Crabs Degradation of the economy, environment and human health is caused by a variety of species. However, the most harmful types of species are known as invasive species. An invasive species is any species that is not native to the environment it is living in. European Green Crabs in particular cause mass harm to their surrounding habitat. However, there are several methods put in place to control the widespread of these creatures and minimize the harm caused by European green crabs. The European green crab can spread accidentally and then stay and cause harm to their new surroundings. Although these green crabs can cause serious harm, there are multiple measures in place to minimize the degree of harm. Confirmation of European green crabs in Canada... The European green crabs invade these eel grass beds when they are searching for prey in the matter that has settled at the bottom of the water or excavating to make burrows, this is done by cutting the roots of the eelgrass, which destroys this ecological habitat. European green crabs have preyed on various marine life such as species of mollusks, crustaceans and fish. The primary species that European green crabs prey upon being shellfish. Shellfish (oyster, clam and scallops) being their primary source of nutrition (GOV, 2016) is an issue because they then create competition for food amongst other species such as lobster and crabs which are native to the habitat the European green crab has invaded. Their secondary source of nutrition comes from crustaceans such as crab, crayfish, lobster, prawns or shrimp. Additionally, Studies have shown that European green crabs will prey upon Dungeness crabs of equal or lesser size (Peters et al. 2004). This means that European green crabs are capable of displacing other crabs in the competition for space, food and habitat. Recently, a study was conducted which showed a 40% drop in Manila clam harvest since the European green crabs arrival in North America (pleus, 2017). Carcinus maenas ... • 3. Coherentism and Foundationalism Foundationalism vs. Coherentism Throughout history, philosophers have been trying to come up with a clear way to provide the justification of our beliefs and knowledge. Noah Lemos offers readers explanations of both foundationalism and coherentism for theories of justification. These two different theories offer very different ways to explain the basis of our beliefs. For a foundationalist, they believe that all of our beliefs can be broken down until we reach a basic belief. This belief would be largely independent of other beliefs and not derived from other beliefs. A coherentist feels that a belief can be reasonably justified if it is coheres with our other beliefs. The foundationalist theory of justification boils everything... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A coherentist however, would justify that the pot is hot through other beliefs that cohere with this belief. Some of these coherent beliefs would be: the remaining coffee in the pot is hot, the coffee is freshly brewed which would mean it is hot, I can see steam coming from the coffee in my mug, the coffee I ve had every other day this week from the same pot have been hot and I can feel the warmth from the mug in my hand. All of these beliefs are not basic as a foundationalist would like, but they all cohere and provide reasonable justification for me to believe that the coffee in my mug is hot. It is my opinion that coherentists have a better argument for beliefs, and more specifically, this example. While I do think that there are many basic beliefs that are justified simply because they just are, I am not convinced that all the beliefs we have in this world can be broken down quite in this way. I do however, feel that many of our beliefs are based in a web of other believes that all support each other. I know that my coffee is hot for many reasons, one being that I can feel it. I don t think that I necessarily need to break it down into experiences when I have many other clues that could more easily justify my belief. There are so many clues and beliefs around me to justify my belief that it s not necessary to try and deduce anything. • 10. The Notebook Film Elements Lauren Taibi First Paper Assignment The Notebook The movie The Notebook, directed by Nick Cassavetes and released on June 5th 2004, is a captivating love story, which takes place in the 1940 s. Through filmatic elements such as Cassavetes choices of cinematography, editing, narrative, mise en scene, sound and music, he creates an extremely believable story of two teenagers in the 1940 s who fell in love over the time span of one summer. In order to create a 1940 s vibe, Cassavetes wisely uses a specific choice of costumes, makeup and scenery to portray exactly the time period he wanted to. Music also plays a key role in reminding the audience that this movie took place in the past. The sound used in this movie serves a large purpose. There are many scenes when Cassavetes allows everything else to be silent and the object of focus to be the loudest in order for the audience to truly concentrate on its meaning. Going back to the scene when Allie and Noah dance in the street together, Cassavetes purposely makes them dance without actual music initially and has Noah hum the tune he wishes to slow dance to, while all else is silent. The reasoning for this is to further contribute towards Cassavetes attempts to get the audience to fall in love with the two teenager s relationship. Dancing without music in the middle of the street shows that the couple can have a great time with nothing else but their love and it also portrays their free spirit and fun personalities. Another time when sound serves a specific purpose is when Noah takes Allie to an abandoned house that he promises he will fix up when he gets older so they can live together in it. A dusty piano in the corner intrigues Allie and she begins to play one of her favorite slow tunes. All else is completely silent in the room as Cassavetes forces the audience to focus on the tune she is playing, for it serves a purpose later on in the movie. • 11. The Causes Of Urbanization In Ethiopia may even be reduced. As the population of an economy becomes wealthier, many prefer to live in the cleaner and quieter environments of the countryside. Thus, employees need to commute into cities for work, for which the necessary requirements, such as public transport or individual car ownership, are only given in more developed countries. Cities in developing countries, on the other hand, still continue to grow. Only the pace is two to five times faster than it was in the European countries during the period of industrialization (Kojima, 1996). Many developing countries in the world are currently experiencing an unprecedented rate of urbanization. It is also clear that, unlike the experience of currently developed countries, the process of urbanization presently taking place in developing countries is not so much due to rapid industrialization. Rather, it is the consequence of growing population pressure on land in the rural areas (Kassahun, 2000). Urbanization has largely taken place as a result of the push of rural inhabitants to urban areas (International Labour Organization 1998). Like many developing countries, Ethiopia remains among one of the least urbanized countries in the world. • 14. Long Lost Family Several seasons back, there was a program on one of the cable television stations entitled Long Lost Family . The premise of the program was to reunite family members who had been separated for many years, sometimes decades, to make a family whole again. Sometimes the story was about parents and children lost through adoption or custody situations. Most frequently, it was about siblings who, because of family feuds or other dysfunctions, had been apart for many years. Sometimes other siblings had polarized around the two who were separated, causing increased tensions and rifts. Interestingly, many times the true cause of the rift as lost to time and memory. Frequently, it came down to miscommunication and pride, a form of standing ground to not appear weak or guilty. Through the intercession of the host of the program, the separated siblings would communicate, have an opportunity to explain or make amends, and then reunite. At the end of the program, the producers would post an update on how well the reunion and rebuilding of family ties was progressing. It was always clear that rebuilding of the family ties would take time and effort on both sides. The analogy of disconnected family members is used frequently in the discussion of the centuries long rift between Catholics and Jews. It is apt. • 18. Labor Union And Labor Unions Essay Labor union history began when the National Labor Union (NLU) was founded in 1866. After the creation of this union, several followed after. Many riots occurred during this time, the Haymarket Riot was one of the main reasons that the American Federation of Labor (AFL) was created. The AFL will be a major part in the labor movement in the future. Labor unions began due to the need to protect the workers. These labor unions formed to fight for reasonable hours, better pay, and safer working conditions. These stipulations that the labor unions pushed for did not come from greed. Many laborers were dying from different jobs. People were required to work 12 or more hour days, 7 days a week for such a small amount of pay. Due to the overworking of these laborers, it caused them to make mistakes. Not only were companies over working these people, they were hiring inexperienced people with little to no training. Thousands upon thousands of people died because of this. To prevent this from occurring labor unions were created to ne the barrier between a company and the workers, the unions are there to help negotiate any stipulations the workers may request. If the department looks at these different ways to receive money, they can provide incentives to draw in future firefighters. Solutions would be to pay a higher hourly rate as well as implement education tuition funds for the firefighters. As a result, the Department would be able to offer more incentives to their new firefighters which would lead to increased amount firefighters that will want to apply at this fire department. This will structure the department to stand out from the other paid on call departments. Body Identify the problem The fiscal problem is that there are not enough paid on call firefighters to respond to calls. Recruiting more firefighters to the Western Springs Fire Department would be a benefit to the department as well as the village. The department would have enough firefighters to control the all calls by mitigating the problem and save life/ property. • 21. Comparing A Doll s House and Oedipus Rex Essay Comparing A Doll s House and Oedipus Rex Ibsen s drama A Doll s House , serves as an example of the kind of issue based drama that distinguishes Ibsen from many of his contemporaries. The play s dialogue is not poetic, but very naturalistic, and the characters are recognizable people. Given the sense of modernity which the play possesses it seems unusual to compare it to a Greek tragedy produced more than two thousand years previously. On closer examination however, there are certain similarities between the way in which A Doll s House is plotted and a tragedy such as Oedipus Rex. Both Oedipus and A Dolls House depict disastrous events that occur to two very different characters. At the start of Oedipus, we... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Oedipus flees from Corinth falsely believing that Polybus and Merope are his parents, he hopes that this will make the oracle s prediction that he will murder his father and sleep with his mother impossible. This virtuous act is of course a massive error since it leads him to his real parentsIt is interesting to note that Nora only borrows money in A Doll s House in an attempt to save the life of her sick husband. Her act of kindness misguided as it may be, is the catalyst for the events that follow. The way in which the actions of both Nora and Oedipus backfire in such a tragic way is an example of what in Greek literary tradition is known as Peripitia. This word translates as a reversal and to gain an understanding of the tragic condition it is important that the theme of reversal is examined. In Oedipus there are many examples of reversal, when actions have the exact opposite effect to that which were intended. When Oedipus sends for the shepherd whom he hopes will allay his fear, over his parentage, his arrival has the exact opposite effect. Web 2.0 Changed the Web Culture into a New Page Web 2.0 Over the past 10 years, many significant changes have been taken by the appearance of the new Web 2.0 which turns the web culture into a new page. With the arrival and new dissemination of Web 2.0, the controversy increases. Personally, Web 2.0 made the online experience more convenient, enjoyable and free than ever before. First and foremost, one of the most notable breakthrough of the Web 2.0 is the improvement in search engines including Google, Yahoo, and Bing. Tim O Reiley convincingly stated about the new experiences that Google brought into our life in his article Web 2.0: Design Patterns and Business Models rather than providing information though selling an owner product of the older company like Netscape, in the Web 1.0. Google, by contrast, began its life as a native Web application, never sold or packaged, but delivered as a service, with customers paying, directly or indirectly, for the use of that service. • 23. Soybean Hydroponics in the Arctic Tundra Soybean Hydroponics in the Arctic Tundra Abstract: Soybeans will be grown hydroponically in the arctic tundra. Greenhouses will be used to extend the possible growing season. Soybeans can serve two good purposes. They can be used as food or as a way to make biofuel. This is great for the arctic environment where it is difficult to get supplies such as food and gasoline. With a steady supply of food and fuel more research can be done in this harsh environment. The goals are to produce the highest output of soybeans possible hydroponically and to convert what is not wanted for food into biofuel. In the United States biofuel production has grown a lot over the last two decades. In 1995 production was at 500,000 gallons, by 2005 it was 75 million gallons, and by 2006 it was at 224 million gallons [Biofuels 13]. The main plant used in the United States biofuel production was the soybean [Biofuels 13]. Currently 4 percent of the world s demand for primary energy comes from biofuels. The more popular and more well known hydropower only provides 2 percent of the world s primary energy demand [Maugeri 10]. Most modern cars can use up to a 10 percent biofuel mix in their engines without any modifications, though some cars called flex fuel can use 100 percent biofuel or gasoline [Maugeri 10]. One big advantage to using biofuel is that it produces a higher octane rating than gasoline which helps improve engine performance [Maugeri 10]. Biofuels currently cost a little more to make compared to gasoline at about a ten to eight ratio respectively [Sanders 10]. Hopefully with more farms producing the components for making biofuels hydroponically it can help drive the price down to where it can be competitive with gasoline and one day completely replace it. Methodology: Since the soybeans are going to be grown in the arctic tundra a greenhouse will be used to extend the growing season which is typically 10 12 weeks to much longer. Soybeans grow best at somewhere between 60 86 degrees Fahrenheit [Jones 05]. Grow lights will be used in the greenhouse when there is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. Madonna Of The Goldfinch Essay 1. Composition is the organization, or arrangement, of forms in a work of art. When art historians analyze composition, they focus on the overall arrangement and organizing design or structure of a work of art. Madonna of the Goldfinch is a painting by Raphael. The three figures, the Madonna and her two boys, are arranged in a triangular shape at the center of the painting. The artist emphasized this by opening the clouds to show a patch of blue in the middle of the sky, and by situating delicate trees around the figural group. This is a bilaterally symmetrical composition, because the Madonna is at the center of the painting while the two boys are divided between the two sides of the triangular shape approximately equidistant from the painting s center. On either side of an implied vertical line at the center of the painting, known as an axis, there are equivalent forms on the left and right which are balanced and complimented in a... Genetically Foods Should Be Approved For Human Consumption Genetically engineered foods are defined as foods that have had genes from other animals or plants (hereby referred to as foreign genes) added onto their genetic codes. The question of whether foods derived from such organisms should be approved for human consumption is what has raised widespread controversy among many circles. • 37. Comparing Glaucon s And Socrates Arguments In Republic II, Glaucon and Socrates pose the question of whether justice is intrinsically good, or instrumentally good. Further, the two men wish to discover which life is best the just life or the unjust one. While Glaucon argues that the unjust life is best, Socrates argues that the just life is truly better. In this paper, I will summarize both Glaucon s and Socrates arguments, and provide a critical analysis of the opposing views. Glaucon begins Republic II by describing different types of goods and by placing them into categories beginning with those that are valued for their own sake (Plato 399). In this category what is good is not sought after for its ability to achieve something, but only for its inherent worth as an end in itself. For Glaucon, joy is an intrinsically valuable good that we appreciate merely because it is joyful to have joy. Glaucon describes the next category of goods as those that not only have intrinsic value, but also those that provide an additional service such as health (Plato 399). Lastly, Glaucon describes a category of goods that are valued only for their instrumental ability, and are worthless upon losing said ability. To elaborate on this last category of goods, a hammer is valued not because it is a hammer, but because it can hammer and once it can no longer hammer it is no longer valued. Following this separation of goods, Socrates adopts Glaucon s view and adds to it a new dynamic by ranking the groups, and placing justice where ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hoarders acquire their possessions in a multitude of ways. These ways include compulsive buying, attainment of free objects, and in severe cases, stealing. Who knows more about you than yourself? No one! So why do people find it so hard to talk about? I had a funny feeling that the day the order of our speeches were assigned that I d be the first person to give their speech. Sure enough, I was the first person to give their speech. I m genuinely glad that I was first because I was able to get it out of the way and not have to stress on it. Giving a speech in front of my peers is nowhere near as nerve racking or terrifying as I thought it would be, but upon giving my speech, I would like to reflect on how I felt the day of my speech (in terms of confidence levels,) some verbal and delivery skills which I used well/not as well, some improvements that could of been put in place for my speech, and who in the class I believe gave the best speech among us all. First off, how I felt on the day of our first speech. I m not going to say that I was 100% confident in myself and not nervous at all, because that s simply not true, but all in all I felt pretty good and I wasn t really that nervous. Since I m used to speaking in front of people, I wasn t nervous about talking in front of my peers but forgetting what I m talking about in my speech since I m used to memorizing and not just speaking out in front of people. The only thing I could think of which I could do to make me less nervous than what I was on the day of my speech would be to go practice more in front of people who aren t my friends. Otherwise, I believe I used my skill of performing in theatre and transposed it into my speech so I wouldn t be nervous upon giving my speech. In speaking of skills, the next topic I d like to address is some skills which I used well/not so well. Some verbal skills I believe I used well (in the content) would be connecting to the audience with funny little examples of a side topic I was talking about. An example of this would be when I said as red head, I could either be Peter Pan at ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Into Thin Air Analysis Imagine yourself, a lover for mountaineering, desired to attain the top of Mt. Everest, but suddenly the government puts this sport as illegal. How would you react? Well, a majority of people say that mountaineering should be forbidden because of an incident that happened in 2014 where a huge wedge of ice fell off and killed 16 Nepalese out of the 25 that were there. I understand that many of the people that explore till the top of the mountain know the risks and are able to understand them and for that, I believe that mountaineeringshould not be illegal. Therefore, I am going to explain reasons why it should not be prohibited. While mountain climbing is a dangerous sport, the chances of death have been reduced significantly. Jon Krakauer, author of Into Thin Air, has determined the ratio of deaths caused because of mountaineering has now dropped from 1 death for every 4 attempts to 1:60 (Source one). It is seen that because of the development of items over the years, many of the symptoms that climbers usually experience include: high altitude cerebral edema and high altitude pulmonary edema, have been prevented with the use of special steroids. Two years after, 16 out of the 25 Nepalese guides were killed from the exact wedge of ice which led to the question if mountaineering should be banned (Source two). There were many ways that this incident could ve been avoided. If Brice and his group escaped out safely, then why didn t they tell anyone about the enormous wedge of ice that averted them from going any further? If there was a flag that said HAZARD ABOVE, then it would have been evaded easily. In my opinion, I believe that in this situation, Brice should be the one to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. Maintenance Management Systems for Malaysian Heritage... Heritage buildings as described by Feilden (2000) are buildings that give us a sense of wonder and make us want to know more about people and culture that produce it . A more elaborate definition was made by Kamal and Harun (2002) where they defined them as buildings built in the past which have high historical and architectural values and require continuous care and protection to preserve their historical, architectural, aesthetic, archaeological, spiritual, social, political and economic values. In other words, heritage buildings are expected to have an indefinite life span, signifying that they should be preserved for as long as possible. This was also pointed out by Feilden (1982) where stated that heritage buildings differ from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He categorized them into four major architectural styles namely MOORISH (Old general post office built in 1894), TUDOR (Royal Selangor club built in 1884), NEO CLASSICAL (Municipal council building in George town built in 1879) and NEO GOTHIC (Carcosa mansion built in 1897). The survival of heritage buildings in Malaysia has been extremely under threat for quite some time now. A large number of heritage buildings are decaying due to age, neglect, and high maintenance cost while many have been destroyed during the building boom of the 1970s. Moreover, large scale urban development continues to jeopardize their existence. Mustapa et al (2007) noted that destroying heritage buildings is as good as wiping out historical memories. He affirmed that conserving these buildings became necessary in order to avert an ugly scenario of losing the nations historical and architectural memories. As defined by Ahmad (2009), building conservation relates to the processes of maintenance, repair, and restoration of heritage buildings with the aim of prolonging a building s life and function . In other words, building conservation is the action taken to prevent decay by adopting approaches that extend the life of heritage building. For the purpose of this study, there is a need to clarify some building conservation terminologies to avoid some common misconceptions in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Second Period I finished weighing in and began to warm up. Same routine as always and soon I was up next. Ankle bands on and ball of my foot on the line. A handshake, a whistle, and the match begins. The first takedown came quicker in this match than it did in the last. I tied up, hand fought, and set up my shots. The match was going my way and I wrestled smart through every scramble, keeping the upper hand. It was the third period and I had a decent lead. I got another takedown and turned him to his back. For a second I swear I had him pinned but the referee was not in position to see it until my opponent was able to put a sliver of space between his shoulder and the mat. He was tall, the tallest wrestler in the bracket which was a problem for me since I m short and stocky. Tyler, my wrestlingpartner was six feet tall so that helped me prepare when wrestling taller opponents. Same game plan regardless and the match began. In the first period I got in deep on several shots but he was able to get out of bounds and cause us to reset in the middle of the mat. The second period began and it was my choice of position. Usually I would choose to defer to the second period but since it was 0 0, I chose bottom position. In the event of sudden death overtime the wrestler who scored first gets to choose whether they want to be on top or bottom position. The first overtime would be one minute in the neutral position and if no one scored then it would be two 30 second periods with each wrestler getting a chance at top and bottom position. If it s still tied after that we would go to a 30 second sudden death victory in referee s position, which is the starting position with one wrestler on top and the other on bottom. An escape is more likely than turning and getting back points so that s why I chose to take bottom in the second period. I got the escape quickly and was up 1 0. Escapes were another thing I was really good at. The wrestling club I went to, DC Elite, taught me to be an expert at takedowns and escapes. When a developer is editing the code and the other developer can examine the code. The developer who is editing the code called Driver , another developer called Observer . In fact, two developers often change roles. In pair programming, Observer considers the direction of the work, make suggestions about improvement, or problems that may arise in the future. This allows the driver to focus their attention on completing the task. Advantage: 1. Programmer can help each other, learn from each other, meanwhile you may solve problems more easily. Both of these locations have provided plenty of information about the manifestation of the cultures they originated from. For example, the insides of Samurai and Midori had an unmissable Asian style and flair throughout the entire establishment. On the outside, Samurai takes on the appearance of a Japanese temple.
