a deep breath of the fresh pine scented air that rushes past on a brisk westerly. From

Norman Bates, Frankenstein, and King Kong. All of these characters behave

Machiavelli and Machiavellianism
When mentioned to most of the people, Machiavelli is associated with evil,
corruption, temptation, revenge, etc. The main reason for this is the book that
Machiavelli wrote The Prince . The book being completely revolutionary for it s time
is the origin of one of the most immoral political doctrines Machiavellianism. Widely
criticized throughout centuries, Machiavellianism is based on personal gain,
achieving and maintaining power. But even thought the main origin of
Machiavellianism is considered to be Machiavelli it is arguable weather or not he
himself was a Machiavellian but a victim of the church s hatred.

For example one of the main Machiavellian concepts is that one should commit
fraud in order to achieve personal gain. An idea that one might think is similar to
the main idea of one of Machiavelli s earlier works La Mandragora . Considered to
be one of the best plays written during the Renaissance La Mandragora revolves
around a group of people trying to trick each other and at the end, each of the
characters ends up getting what they want. Different from the Machiavellian concept
that one should commit fraud to reach personal gain, the meaning behind the play is
that; even fraud can be used in order to achieve maximum satisfaction in maximum
number of people, an idea rather utilitarian than Machiavellian. We know that,
Machiavelli doesn t think that fraud is always the way to achieve maximum
satisfaction, from another one of his works Clizia . This play too revolves around a
group of people trying to trick each other and achieve whatever they want using fraud,
but in this case none of the characters end up gaining anything and having any
satisfaction. So what Machiavelli thought was that making maximum number of
people happy should be one s goal, even if doing so involves fraud, but he unlike the
Machiavellians, thinks that fraud isn t the essential part of

High Stakes Testing Essay
Public education today is facing many issues. In my career as a teacher I have seen
firsthand many of these issues. The lack of technology and furthermore, teachers
trained and comfortable in using the technology is one problem that is facing public
education. Besides technology, closing the achievement gap between socioeconomic
status and race is an extensive public educationissue. Lastly, high stakes, standardized
testing is an issue that many educators, students, and parents face each year. I
consider high stakes testing to be the biggest impact on my classroom each year and

When high stakes tests are used as a large part of a teacher s performance evaluation
it fails to show the bigger picture. Students come from diverse learning backgrounds
and testing does not show the growth that the teacher helped the students to
accomplish. High stakes testing forces teachers to focus only on subjects tested and
spend many, many hours on teaching test taking strategies. By narrowing the
curriculum, testing does not allow students to focus on a deep understanding of
material or develop critical thinking skills. There has also been a trickle down of
curriculum into the lower grade levels to help prepare them for standardized testing.
Students in Kindergarten should be focusing on social and emotional goals; however,
the curriculum has shifted to include more academic skills. High stakes testing also
has impacted students. Students may suffer from testing anxiety or just not do well
on tests. If the only data that is shown about these students is based on this test it
does not truly show the whole picture. Exceptional Education and English Language
Learners have been impacted the most due to standardized, high stakes testing. These
tests do not take in to account the level these students are working at and how much
growth and progress they make during a school

Fear Of Clowns
There is an actual psychological diagnosis for it. Coulrophobia is the fear of
clowns is a real phobia for both children and adults alike. The phobia could be
explained by what Sigmund Freud explained in a 1919 publication The Uncanny In
this work Sigmund Freud explains that we can be frightened by something that is
familiar and yet unfamiliar at the same time. For children, most can recognize the
clownas a real person but cannot recognize the exaggerate make up and clothing as
being real this confusion leads to fear. For adults, the fear of clowns can be a result
of a childhood trauma by a bad experience or with exposure to clowns in movies or
television. The traditional white face clown has also been used by Hollywood and
television in horror movies to depict people whose actions are unpredictable and
scary. The recent remake of Stephen Kings IT rekindles fears of clowns as being
deranged. The misuse of the clown s face turning the features into a misshapen
creepy mask also contributes to the fear of clowns. The serial killer John Wayne
Gacy worked as a party clown. This summer, pranksters and sick people have
adopted the clown character to attack and menace people in different parts of the
world to gain infamy on social media, further degrading the reputation of the
clowningprofession. These creepy characters do not represent the true nature of
