Was Lizzie Borden A Serial Killer
Lizzie Borden is a very known serial killer but not by killing plenty of people, but
only killing her father and stepВmother. Along with her time period, the late 1800 s,
it was very unknown for women to be killers and were seen as the weaker sex ,
which is also one of the reasons why Mrs. Borden was so popular for this case. But
how do you get away with a murder of your parents?
Lizzie Borden was born on July 19th, 1860 in Fall River, Massachusetts. First born,
Emma Borden, was very prepared at age of 6 to have a baby sister (Alice) and
teach her how to love and would protect her from anything. Unfortunately, Alice died
at the age of 2 from hydrocephalus, which is water in the brain. On Emma s 9th
birthday, she was even more prepared to take ... Show more content on

Suddenly, as Emma and Lizzie were in the early 30 s, they grew very resentful
towards Abby and moods started changing. Abby always tried being a loving mother
and tried teaching them courtesy and more, but the girls just wouldn t take it.
Lizzie did not make friends easily but to her, she didn t really need manyНѕ all she
needed was her sister who promised her birthВmother she would watch after her and
she has. Many witnesses and others have thought that Sarah had a bipolar disorder
which is very generic and can be passed down by family members. Sarah also had fits
of anger which is also genetic like anger issues.
Emma , for a year and a half, left to go to Wheaton Female Seminary and was very
nervous that this absence was going to cause Abby to take over poor little Lizzie.
August 3, a day before the murder of Abby and Andrew, Lizzie was found at a
drugstore and unsuccessfully tried buying a poison. During this, Emma was out of
town and Abby was in a finished argument with Andrew.
August 4, 1892, Andrew and Abby Borden found dead, one on the couch and the
High School Swimming Pool
Arriving at Thompson Rivers University, we stepped off the bus and looked at the
pool. The stench of chlorine burned our noses as we entered the pool. The interior
design of the sport complex was amazing although it seemed like a jail. The pool
reminded me about the same pool during Frasers swim meet. The vast poolwas filled
with swimmers diving in and climbing out of the lanes. We had a bit of time to rest
before the first event started so we made use of the time to practice. Luckily, the
individual medleys were the first events to start off the 2015 High SchoolSwimming
Provincials swim meet and I didn t have to swim until event 29. I had a few hours
before I had to get changed and swim so I laid back and started to doze off.

Luckily, I was going to be the last one to swim since I was swimming freestyle in
the 100m mixed relay. The referee shouted, On Your Mark....Get Set, and the same
deafening buzz pierced my eardrums. The swimmers dove into the water like
dolphins and swam towards the other side and back like mad sharks. As I stepped
up onto the platform, my heartbeat quickened and sweat dripped down from my
head as I got ready to jump just as my teammate slammed into the wall. Bending
my knees and pushing off to gain as much power as I could get, I splashed into the
cold and freezing water that I haven t touched in hours. My arms would not slow
down take a rest. Constantly, my head spun from side to side so I could glare at
the swimmers beside me who were trying so hard to pass me. Speeding towards the
other side, I pulled my legs in and did a flip turn. Unfortunately, water rushed into
my nose as I forcefully pushed off the wall. The two swimmers beside me were just
a few inches in front of me! My legs quickened its movement to boost myself to
catch up to those two. However, instead of speeding up, I slowed down and
eventually lost to both of them and ended up getting third in my heat.
When I reached the bleachers, Mr. Tustin was still there. Water drops left my wet
hair like children jumping off diving boards. I was dissatisfied with my time. I had
only achieved a 50m freestyle time of 32 seconds. I had also let my
Google, The Co Founder Of Google
Report: Google
1.Purpose
The IT entrepreneur I ve decided to research on is Larry Page, the co founder of
Google. This report covers the purpose of Google as a search engine, the
technologies that it uses for its searches, how it managed to beat its predecessors and
the hardware that it uses, both old and new ones. The reason why I chose Google is
because I ve been using it for a number of years now and I thoroughly enjoy the
experience of surfing the web with it. 2. Key Information
1.1Introduction
The idea of Google developed when its founders wanted to organize an infinite
amount of information on the web. It was first called Backrub , and later on adopted
the name Googol, after a mathematical terminology. The founders, Larry Page and
Sergey Brin worked on their idea for 3 years before deciding to incorporate it. It
officially became a company in the year 1998. Google started off as a search engine,
and it maintains its core business until now. The main benefits of having a search
engine include quick results for intended searches, as search engines extract
information from the web and display in an organized manner.
Google quickly became the most popular search engine due to several reasons.
Firstly, this is due to speed of delivering search results. When it first launched, Google
used several different computers to
The Influence Of Book Censorship In America
Book Censorship in America
Beginning in 399 B.C. when Socrates was sentenced to drink poison for corrupting
his students due to his non traditional ideas, book censorship has become
increasingly more prominent in today s society. In fact, 275 books were banned in
the United States alone in the year 2015, according to the American Library
Association (2016). Books such as The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and
even the ever popular Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling have been banned for a
variety of reasons (American Library Association, 2015).
On the other hand, many concerned citizens believe that books should be banned
because they may contain violence such as shown in The Hunger Games by
Suzanne Collins. Another reason people believe that books should be banned is
because of the book containing racial themes, as shown in The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. Profanity is also a concern for many Americans.
A book banned for this type of content is The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger.
Sexual content is also a fear amongst individuals, such as shown in Brave New
World by Aldous Huxley. Lastly, individuals are extremely terrified that children
will read about ideas that are different from their own and questions the social
hierarchy. One of these non traditional books is To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
While there may be some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many individuals are concerned with the banning of ideas to be the problem, the
real issue is the freedom to read. As Helen Adams suggested at the opening of a
banned books week; School librarians can turn [banned books week] around, having
the observance focus on the patriotic theme of the freedom to read vs. just banned
books and incorporate all types of books into a display or event
Freud Vs Erikson Research Paper
In the theory of development, it appears that Sigmund Freud and Erik Erikson had
two different ideas in the way that we develop from childhood to adult. Although
Sigmund Freud development his theories first, many like Erik Erikson started with
Freud s ideas and altered for this own idea. Freud had a more sexual type theory
about development. He identified Oral, Anal, Phallic, Latency, and Genital and
development type stages. As Oral age development was between zero and one year
old, Anal between one and three years old, Phallic as three to six years old, Latency
between six and twelve years old, with Genital being twelve and up. Each level was
fixate around an erogenous zone, mouth, anus, genitals. Erikson modified the

One Day Person Analysis
Hi, I m Danny. I m applying to be your Quote of the day person. One reason I have
chosen this job, in particular, is due to my love for quotes and sharing them;
especially on social media. Another reason is to inspire, motivate, and to make the
class smile. A favorite quote of mine, I yearn to share states, If you re not willing
to learn, no one can help you. If you re determined to learn, no one can stop you. In
other words, It s saying that If you don t have the willingness to learn no one can
help you, but yourself because the willingness to learn is a choice and if you have
the dedication, determination to do it then nothing and no one can stop you from
learning. Teachers open the door, but you must enter yourself. Moreover,
qualifications I have for this position is that I am dependable, responsible, and

might have about the position would be: forgetting to manage the position every
day. Nevertheless, I assure you that this will not be me, since I m reliable and
dependable and truly passionate about being the class quote of the day person. And
I strive to do the best that I can do and to succeed in this job. Another concern
might be that the quotes will not meet the position s expected job description.
Nonetheless, I will guarantee that every quote meets that standard. Furthermore,
My quotes won t be pedestrian they will be scintillating and make you agog to
come to class. To conclude; due to these previous reasons and statements are why I
would be optimal for this job position and hope to look forward to being your Quote

Essay on Baby DJ School
The word DJ stands for disc jockey, a person who uses samples of recorded music
to make music . The educational experience of Baby DJ School is a portal into the
wonderful worlds of electro, hip hop, and house music. Baby DJ school originated
in Brooklyn, New York and was opened by Natalie Elizabeth Weiss, DJ, composer
and playwright. She opened the school in order to attribute gross and fine motor
skills, spatial reasoning, and language skills and foster a special bond between
caretaker and baby. The school provides an interactive music program for toddlers
and teaches them how to make their own beats via using their own creativity. Baby

The idea of the Baby DJ School gained massive amounts of popularity via media
and internet and became a spectacular day care for kids. The school has gained so
much popularity recently that even Vice Media, a broadcasting company that
reaches a large global audience, published a video about Baby DJ School. The
video contains dozens of awesome images of babies playing around with the
equipment, along with lots of positive vibes from the teacher and the parents.
However it is not an advertisement. Vice displays a more realistic portrayal of the
school instead of advertise it to a specific audience.
The success of the school is due to the daycare aspects as well as the learning piece
that goes along with listening to music and rhythms at such a young age. Not only are
babies increasing their motor functions and brain development, but the parents can
listen and feel involved in the process of their kid learning something new. This
type of music education at such young age could change the entire way that
education has worked in the past for infants. The multifaceted benefits of the
program far outweigh the disincentives of a normal daycare education, now
students go learn how to mix music with turntables and spin records instead of
going to story time. The school only costs 200 dollars per class and I believe
signing a kid to this school will be one of the greatest investments that a parent can
do for forging strong bonds with the
The Culture Of The Word Culture
There are many laity use of the word culture that gets thrown around in day to day
conversation amongst our peers. Culture is used to define certain aspects of our
lives and how we live on a daily basis. There are some that believe that they do not
possess a culture. There are others who feel that we all live our own individual
unique culturein our lives. However, being that culture is such a broad subject, the
only way to define it is to operationalize its context and attempt to try and
understand it based on a universal definition. Sergiovanni and Corbally s (1986)
definition of culture includes a system of values, symbols, and shared meanings in a
group that includes embodying these values, symbols, and shared meanings in
ritualize practice. Using this particular definition of culture, the small island of
Okinawa is enriched with it. Their way of day to day lifestyle, geographical terrain,
as well as their militaryhistory can all be analyzed through their culture as well as
provide information in terms of our current military jargon for the benefit of the
United States Army.
Culturally, Okinawans separate themselves from the association of the Japanese
culture, even though they are still considered a territory of Japan. The differences in
their landscape, their way of life, language, and even their societal infrastructure are
the basis of their adamant separation from Japan. Its geographical complexities are
also what make Okinawa unique from its neighboring

Based on the information provided by the parents, the doctor requested Milton and

requesting support from a developmental pediatrician, a neurologist, and a
psychologist. After receiving reports from all of the supporting professionals, Milton
and Margaret were officially informed that their daughter has a form of autismcalled
Asperger s. Even though they knew from birth that something was wrong, they
were shocked and relieved, simultaneously, when they received the diagnosis.
Milton stated that he felt as if he was stuck in a bad dream. They began to blame
each other. Once the blaming stopped, they were able to work together, focusing on
what was best for Marginee`. Both parents divulged that it felt like an emotional
roller coaster, vacillating between shock, relief and a host of other emotions such as,
denial, anger, and depression. At this time, Acceptance was far off . According to
research, their reaction is typical, which reveals that learning about any difficulty or
problem with your child s development can be devastating and confusing (Partington,

A Multicultural Education
The statics in the Kim article were staggering. Being in education for 17 years I have
personally seen the change in the student demographics. However Kim summarizes
the truth that the demography of the educators has not changed. The introduction
focuses on the state of crisis in education involving the achievement gap. This study is
focused not just on ethnicity, but also socioeconomic status. From this study the
cause to look at multicultural educationis very evident. The main area of the paper
will explore the varied approaches to dealing with multiculturalism and the critiques
of all the misconceptions and the impact of whiteness.
Kim relays the four phases of multicultural education: incorporating ethnic studies
into school curricula, total school reform for educational equality, inclusion of other
minority groups by incorporating their history and culture into the curriculum, and
analyzing the differences of race, class and gender. In order to move forward with the
implementation of multicultural education, educators most be made more aware of
integrating content, building a diverse knowledge base which is delivered equitably
in the classroom, and making the culture part of the every day educational routine.
According to Kim, in order to feel successful with the implementation, there are
several approaches which schools can take. The contribution approach is simply
identifying with the icons and holidays of the culture. The additive approach is

Analysis Of Raymond Carver s Cathedral
Pastor Bonhoeffer once said, Judging others makes us blind, whereas love is
illuminating. By judging other s, we blind ourselves to our own evil and to the
grace which others are just as entitled to as we are. The way we treat people
reflects on ourselves. The way the world judges and condemns each other is very
true and an everyday reality for most. The same could be said about people who are
limited by one or more of their six senses and are judged by the majority of the
population who are not limited and make preconceived notions about these
limitations which can bind them. Raymond Carver s Cathedral explores many
literary devices that reveal the pre conceived perception towards people with physical
limitations without understanding the individual first, which is still a problem today.
The protagonist, the narrator is closed minded and lacks communication with his
wife, which clearly exhibits the distance and troubles in their relationship. The
narrator is not happy with having the blind man, Robert, who he sees as a stranger
over in his home which stirs up more trouble with his wife. You don t have any
friends, she said. Period, she said, goddamn it, his wife s just died! Don t you
understand that? The man s lost his wife (Carver 107). The wife is obviously mad
with her husband who doesn t understand the close relationship she has with Robert,
which is a mutual understanding. Throughout their limited conversation the narrator
asks about Roberts wife who has just
Application Of A Distributed Agricultural Sensor Network
Abstract As the world s population continues to grow, new agricultural technologies
will be needed to keep up with the growing demand. To accomplish this, agricultural
systems must increase production while at the same time more effectively utilizing
and conserving the resources that go into that production. One possible solution is
the collection and analysis of environmental data. IoT sensor networks can cheaply
provide distributed data that can be used to improve plant health, increase harvest
yields, and decrease waste. The primary focus of this project will be to prototype a
distributed agricultural sensor network that will be able to monitor the environment,
network and analyze the data on the cloud, and finally provide feedback to... Show

This is an active area of IoT research and will be the primary focus of this project. If
data can be effectively gathered, networked, and analyzed, then that data can then
be used to impart real and significant change on the environment. For agricultural
systems this will result in improved plant health, increased harvest yields, and
decreased waste. A.Background One of the most utilized and standardized IoT
stacks is the IEEE 802.11.4, 6LoWPAN, RPL, and CoAP stack. The IoT stack
layers are similar to OSI and they share many of the same abstraction layer
divisions. These similarities assist with the interoperability of IoT protocols with
those of the Internet. The IEEE802.15.4 protocol defines the physical and link
layers of stack. These layers define how data is modulated onto the channel, how
the channel is shared between multiple users, as well as the low level packet checks
and retransmissions. IEEE802.15.4 operates in the 2.4GHz ISM band using
Quadrature Phase Shift Keying with additional Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum
encoding. This allows the radio to better reject noise and other interference.
IEEE802.15.4 utilizes 16, 5MHz channels in order to generate a data throughput of
250kbps. The maximum payload size is 127 Bytes [1]. Compared to WiFi, the data
rate and maximum packet size is significantly less. These characteristics are the result
of the limited hardware used for

think my mother made it clear you have to live life by your own terms and you
have to not worry about what other people think and have the courage to do the

one of the most well known women of the 1900 s. Showcasing her strong will and
grace from an early age, she inspired many people while serving as First Lady and
after. While Jackie Kennedy on the surface seemed to live a charmed life as a
prominent, beautiful woman, she endured the death of her son, the tragic death of her

How Did The Light Bulb Affect Society
The first successful light bulb was invented by Thomas Edison in 1879, little did he
know that his invention would change the world and still has affects to this day.
There are many reasons why the light bulb was the best invention of the Industrial
revolution, three reasons why are; it changed human existence by illuminating the
night. Another one is that it helped improve economics by making days longer. The
last one is it improved education, people began to read more and learning facilities
had later classes. The light bulb was definitely not the only invention from the
Industrial revolutionbut it was the one to have the biggest impact on society.
The Light bulb changed the lives of many people; it had a big impact on illuminating
the night. The night was always dark until the light bulb was invented by Thomas
Edison in 1879 and ever since then, the night has been able to be bright if people
wanted it too. The story of the light bulb begins long before Edison patented the first
commercially successful bulb in 1879; in 1800 Italian inventor Alessandro Volta
developed the first practical method of generating electricity, the voltaic pile, made of
alternating discs of zinc and copper, the pile conducted electricity when a copper wire

being there to light the factory. The light bulb also improved education in the
Cause And Cons, Causes And Effects Of Deforestation
Background
An environmental issue that has been affecting the globe for years is deforestation.
National Geographic defines deforestation as the clearing of forests in the world on
a massive scale, which usually results in damage to the land quality. Each year,
approximately eighteen million acres of forest are destroyed and until date, almost
half of the tropical forests worldwide have been cleared. ( Deforestation: Facts,
Causes Effects )
Causes of Deforestation
There are numerous causes of deforestation, which vary according to region and
purposes, whether natural or manmade. However, generally, the three main reasons
for the destruction of forests are for agricultural purposes, logging and
¬¬urbanization.
Agricultural activity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some common and well known negative effects of it are the greenhouse effect, soil
impoverishment and the loss of biodiversity.
The global crisis of global warming is further heightened because of deforestation.
Forests play a significant role in ensuring that greenhouse gases do not enter the
atmosphere by regulating the air with its natural processes.
Soil impoverishment, is caused during the destruction of forests by increasing the
chances of soil erosion and flooded. Soil erosion is caused by rainfalls and poor
crop growth, as there are no crops protecting and holding the soil together. This
would affect the fertility of the soil due to the depletion in its nutrients. In the long
run, the soil would lose its ability to sustain crops. ( What Are The Benefits of
Forests and the Consequences of Deforestation? )
Also, seventy percent of the world s animals and plants are based in forests.
Deforestation causes the loss of habitat to many of these species, which eventually
lead to their extinction. Approximately 50,000 species are getting extinct each year
due to this. ( Deforestation Effects, Causes, And Examples: Top 10

The Origins Of The Dinosaur Myth
For over a century, paleontologists have been collecting abundant dinosaur fossils
from the Western Interior of North America, with many of these fossils found in
rocks dating back to the final stages of the Cretaceous Period. Only recently,
however, have we learned that most of these dinosaurs existed on a lost continent
today referred to as Laramidia . (Switek, 2010)
Two new species of horned dinosaurs have been found in the Grand Staircase
Escalante National Monument in Southern Utah. The bigger of the two new
dinosaurs, Utahceratops gettyi, had a skull 2.3 meter (around 7 feet) long. The first
part of the name combines the origin of the find and ceratops, Greek for horned face
. The second part of the name honors Mike Getty, the paleontology
Nationalism in a Multicultural Society
Nationalism is exclusionary by definition. In a well argued essay, compare the
positive and negative effects of nationalism within a multicultural or multiethnic
society. In your answer, discuss the problems that a multicultural society poses to the
formation of national identity and why you do or do not believe that nationalism is
compatible with the liberal state s emphasis upon individual rights and freedoms.
The Age of liberal democracy is also the Age of nationalism (Bernard Yack, 2003) .
Throughout history, the relationship between nationalism and the emergence and
proliferation of the liberal democratic state has been closely intertwined. Examples of

He carried out genocide on the German Jews in order to create the perfect Aryan race.
Hitler successfully turned the Germans against each other based on anti Semitic

represent the dark side of democracy (Bernard Yack, 2003) . National identity
becomes horribly wrong, especially in multinational societies, when people
sometimes rank identities hierarchically, leading to the rejection of another nation as
inferior.
The modernist theories imply that until the beginning of the 19th century, almost no
one had more than local loyalties. National identity and unity were originally imposed
from above, by European states, because they were necessary to modernize the
economy and society. In this theory, nationalist conflicts are an unintended side
effect. For state theorists, pervasive loyalty or devotion to the polity is purposefully
encouraged through the allocation of services and privileges, with the state
adjudicating disputes to bolster unity (Bernard Yack, 2003) . Ernest Gellner, a
philosopher and social anthropologist, argued that nations are a by product of
industrialization. Modernization theorists regard the printing press and capitalism as
necessary conditions for nationalism. The greater the group nationalism, the greater
the group homogeneity of attitudes, beliefs, language spoken and ways of behaving,
the greater is the group cohesiveness. Partly as a result of
Outline Of Recommendation For Change
3.1 Overview of Recommendation for Change As mentioned throughout the
previous section, Target has a very comprehensive CSR program that covers most
areas under this field. Because of this, there is little for the company to do in
regards to starting any new divisions within their CSR efforts; therefore, I believe
it would be most beneficial to fine tune some of its programs to align with the
company s customer base more closely. Additionally, I believe some of Target s
current CSR efforts are rather broad and the company could benefit by really
specializing within some of the areas and establishing goals moving forward.
Finally, although Target seems to emphasize its dedication to supporting the
community and collaborating with other organization, there seems to be a
disconnect between this and some of the company s actions. 3.2 Aligning Company
s CSR Efforts with Customer Base Target recently released its third quarter
financial statements for 2016, where the company recorded a 11% increase in EPS
over last year. CEO Brian Cornell credited much of this growth to its strong back to
school shopping sales. He went on to say that Target has invested much effort in
differentiating themselves from other competitors like Walmart by offering a more
family focused selection, particularly with children s apparel and educational toys.
While it seems that this strategy is currently paying off for Target from its recent
financial results, I believe Target could benefit even more
Examples Of Unrequited Love In Twelfth Night
Many describe unrequited love as a bee sting. At first nature blinds you with it s
beauty, but suddenly it strikes out and pain overwhelms you, feelings of betrayal and
distrust linger. In William Shakespeare s 1600s comedic play Twelfth Night, Olivia
portrays how the rejection in unrequited love leads to violence and obsession,
thereby, causing an individual to act irrational and vindictive.
Unrequited love often causes desperation and one sided devotion. Olivia experiences
unrequited love directly and indirectly. When Olivia asks herself Even so quickly
may one catch the plague? Shakespeare uses this metaphor to compare love and the
plague, making it seem detrimental and perilous (I.v.301). This warns the audience
that love can cause serious problems which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

One can observe Orsino s love for Olivia as obsessive. Orsino s first words If music
be the food of love, play on, introduce him as a love sick character whose mind
revolves around a woman who does not return his feelings (I.i.1). Olivia constantly
populates his mind and he does not cease his pursuit for her love, even after she
expresses distaste towards him. Shakespeare mocks love sick individuals for acting
like fools and putting themselves through misery. After learning of Olivia s marriage,
Orsino realizes he has lost her and lashes out at Cesario. He threatens him by
stating I ll sacrifice the lamb I do love to spite a raven s heart within a dove (V.i.33
34). Shakespeare uses Orsino s love for Olivia to differentiate between good and
bad love. Unrequited love can cause an individual to pursue violent actions in blind
rage. Orsino shows how love is consuming, crippling, and hinders the ability to live
out life.Orsino believes his love for Olivia is true, but he is actually in love with the
idea of love, and believes he can only obtain it from Olivia. Shakespeare tries to
inform the audiences that they could mistakenly believe they are in

Limitations
To prepare a term paper various aspects and experiences are needed. But we have
faced some barriers for making a complete term paper on the given topic. These
barriers or limitations, which hinder our work, are as follows:
* Unfamiliarity with real life and business applications of such models. * Inadequate
class discussion on this topic. * Non Availability of study materials. * Lack of direct
support in making the term paper.
We were placed for only around twenty days of time amp; with other class work,
study and inadequate dedicated time from group members in some cases hindered the
preparation of the term paper. The time span was not sufficient enough to learn the
entire concept regarding the topic. Therefore, it was a tricky task to carry out the
work.

From this equation we get x approximately equal to 6. So Donner Company should

In spite of huge increase in sales in large quarter, the profit and loss summary of the
company shows that net profit before taxes decreased considerably from $14,800 in
August of 1987 to $3,100 in September of the same year. Also net sales and gross
profit margin decreased in this period. All this can be attributed to huge inefficiencies
that exist in the manufacturing processes of Donner.
Major issues are В–
В•Poor Quality Items returned by customers increased from 1% to 3%. One tenth of
the boards returned to the Donner Company were damaged or out of tolerance while
the rest were returned due to the company not completing one or two different
required operations.
В•Process Flow One of Donner s major problems lies in their process flow. There
are many bottlenecks and employee downtime which arise from poor process flow
setup and unforeseen problems.
В•Low Productivity В– For example Plater spent 15% of her time walking between
her desk and the plating tank. Also, plating and etching processes were located far
form the machining operation.
В•Late Deliveries In 1987, Donner was faced with problems in meeting delivery
schedules and growing customer returns.

The Black Womanhood By Linda Brent Essay
Black womanhood is extremely complex because this is a group of people who
have marginalized for centuries. There is a burden put on black women that other
groups do not experience. Being a woman in today s society is a burden alone, but
on top of that being African American presents another set of obstacles. Linda
Brent in Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl and Janie Crawford in Their Eyes
Were Watching God, are both black women who are oppressed by society as a
whole, particularly males. Since they have to face twice the amount of oppression,
they have even more of a reason to fight for their basic human rights of liberty and
respect. By looking at Linda Brent s fight for independence as a slave, we can see
how even though Janie was not a slave, she still fights for independence within her
relationships with men. This is important because it shows how Jacobs and
Hurston believed that domesticity and over sexualization limits the power of black
women therefore they have to be physically and mentally strong. Domesticity
limits Janie and Linda s freedom because it allows them to only control household
responsibilities while still being ruled by men. Linda Brent was a house slave
which some may say she was privileged but she was subjected to the master s
dominance as well. As a house slave, she got a taste of domesticity by cooking,
cleaning, and caring for the master s children. Unfortunately at the time society
believed that women were meant to stay inside and take care

2013 Abstract Rationing Healthcare: America s Best Bet Introduction. Within the
last decade private insurance premiums have doubled, rising four times faster than
wages. Insolvency of the current government assisted healthcare programs,
Medicare and Medicaid, are on track to occur within the next eight years (Singer,
2009, para. 3). Facts such as these lead most experts and scholars such as Peter

different forms of health care (Singer, 2009, para. 22). Andre and Velasquez state
the morals of such rationing would be unjust and take away constitutional rights to
receive equal care. Proponent s arguement. Many proponents for rationing
healthcare resources feel it is only a matter of time before it becomes necessary.
Healthcare analysts and providers predict a health care crisis because of: * Costs
of Healthcare * Increased number of uninsured individuals * Unknown status of
current healthcare system Factors that are affecting these conclusions consist of: *
Expenses are rising faster than the cost of living. * Medicare and Medicaid
spending (which comprises 26 percent of the federal budget) is expanding faster
than the economic growth rate * Individuals and their families continue to pay a
significant amount out of pocket (Ukleja Center for Ethical Leadership, 2012, Slide
3) While these factors are compelling, the numbers representing US spending costs
ultimately lend credence to the argument for healthcare rationing. In June of 2011,
the National Coalition on Health Care reported healthcare spending reached 18.2%
of US Gross Domestic Product (GDP), up by 5.1% from the prior year (The
National Coalition on Health Care, 2011, p. 1). With a continued climb in spending,

Most American in The Profit of the Smoky Mountains Essay
LITR221
Due: 23 November 2014
Granny (Mis Cayce) A Unique American Woman What makes Appalachian
Americans unique? Starting with characteristics one that most Appalachian s share
is an intense desire for freedom. Freedom to live as they pleased, with lots of space
to themselves elbow room , as Appalachian Daniel Boone used to say. People who
settled Appalachia were not inclined to be bound to institutions, religious or
otherwise. Those ties and that external authority were part of what they wanted to
leave behind. These people brought their traditions, values and beliefs with them.
They came into contact with Native Americans, and while doubtless there were fights
for land, the settlers and Indians reached an understanding (How ... Show more

Southern mountain dialect (as the folk speech of Appalachia is called by linguists)
is certainly archaic, but the general historical period it represents can be narrowed
down to the days of the first Queen Elizabeth, and can be further particularized by
saying that what is heard today is actually a sort of Scottish flavored Elizabethan
English. This is not to say that Chaucerian forms will not be heard in everyday use,
and even an occasional Anglo Saxon one as well (Dial). While searching The Profit
of the Great Smoky Mountains one character that stands out as being a unique
American is Granny or Mis Cayce. Mis Cayce is an elderly woman whose birth
was probably in the early 1800 s in the Appalachian community she still lived in.
She grew up, grew old and will die in the region, probably without ever leaving it.
In her first introduction she wore a cap, which had a flapping frill and was
surmounted by a pair of gleaming spectacles. A bandana kerchief was crossed over
her breast, and she wore a blue and white checked homespun dress of the same
pattern and style that she had worn here fifty years ago (Murfree). Her dress was
that of 18th century garments. The frilled cap was probably a Bavolette which was
a ribbon frill at the back of the bonnet. Its purpose was covering the neck, which was
considered an erogenous zone in the mid 19th century (History of Hats for Women).

Paraphernalia For The Lottery Essay
The Lottery: Thesis How blindly following makes horrible acts seem humane How
traditionalism overpowers the strongest of morals and emotions The Mindless
following of traditionalism ignores one s morals.
Ideas:
The original paraphernalia for the lottery had been lost long ago, and the black box
now resting on the stool had been put into use even before Old Man Warner, the
oldest man in town, was born. Mr. Summers spoke frequently to the villagers about
making a new box, but no one liked to upset even as much tradition as was
represented by the black box. (5)
The villagers are extremely resistant to change, although as seen in other passages, the
lottery is not without its detractors.
There had been, also, a ritual salute, which the official of the lottery had had to use
in addressing each person who came up to draw from the box, but this also had
changed with time, until now it was felt necessary only for the official to speak to
each person approaching. (7)
The lottery has evolved over time, yet there are fundamental elements of it that the
villagers would never consider changing
Although the villagers had forgotten the ritual and lost the original black box, they
still remembered to use stones. (76)

Summers spoke frequently to the villagers about making a new box, but no one
liked to upset even as much tradition as was represented by the black box (5). This
quote from Shirley Jackson s thematically intense story about tradition shows the
townspeople s negativity towards the idea of changing the lottery system; There had
even been a notion to eliminate the barbaric process altogether. Moreover, the elder
of the town, old man Warner, spoke about how important this tradition had been on
their society and how getting rid of it would be catastrophic. Is Mr. Warner leading
the people to believe that tradition should supersede one s

Abstract The ultimate goal of Fiber Wireless (FI WI) networks is to convergence of
various optical and wireless technologies under a single infrastructure in order to take
advantage of their complementary features and therefore providing a network
capable of supporting bandwidth hungry emerging applications for both fixed and
mobile clients. The Fi Wi architecture is based on radio ... Show more content on

This means that traffic generated from users communicating only in the wireless
network does not have to be propagated towards the optical network as happens
with RoF technology. Thus, distributed MAC protocols, e.g. IEEE 802.11b, avoid
the fiber s extra propagation delays that degrade their performance. This feature
removes a possible limitation regarding the length of the deployed fiber while it
adds a degree of resiliency to the system since local wireless traffic can be served
even when connectivity with the optical segment is lost.

OPTICAL ACCESS NETWORKS A growing number of providers worldwide are
adopting optical technologies in the access network and towards the client s
premises (Fiber to the Home or FTTH) due to optical fiber s ability to provide huge
amounts of bandwidth in longer distances than copper, immunity to
electromagnetic interference and inherent security. Fiber generally should be
installed underground for safety reasons and therefore its deployment is an
expensive procedure. This is mitigated by deploying a tree like network topology
where a part of it is being shared by many clients. Each client is connected via a
dedicated fiber to a Remote Node (RN) which in turn is connected via a single fiber
to a CO. In general two technologies can be used for this implementation

There are numerous materials that are significant when it comes to constructing a
building. Each one is vital in their purpose. This paper will address the materials that
I feel are some of the most important aspects in building; foundation, wood, and
concrete.
Foundation is arguably the most important part of building any home, building, or
structure. A solid foundation of a building guarantees a durable future of the
structure. A building that is just sat down on bare earth is more likely to be cracked
or damaged over time by natural forces. The three most important functions of a solid
foundation is to bear the load of the building, anchor it against natural forces, and to
isolate it from ground moisture.
When it comes to foundation, soil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to discuss concrete; one must first mention cement. Cement is a water based
binder used to bind other building materials together. It is used in the production of
mortar and concrete during the construction process. Concrete is a material used in
construction, made by mixing aggregate, cement, small stones and water. Cement is
important because it hold structures together. Many sources states concrete was
invented 1756 by a British Engineer named John Smeaton. He did so by mixing
pebbles as a coarse aggregate into a powdered brick into the cement. Years layer in
1824, a English inventor named Mr Joseph Aspdin created the first true artificial
cement by burning ground limestone and clay together. He is also noted for creating
today s popular concrete; Portland cement. Many buildings use concrete because of
its strong element. It solidifies then hardens after mixing with water and placement
due to the chemical process known as hydration. Water reacts with the cement, which
bonds the other components together, eventually creating a stone like material.
Concrete is used to make pavements, pipe, various structures, foundations, roads,
bridges, brick walls and so on. It is either produced site cast or pre cast. Site cast
Concrete is standard concrete that is poured into site specific forms and cured on site;
the concrete is created on the actually construction site. Precast concrete is a

The Lady And The Tramp By Gwendolyn Mink Analysis
In this paper, I will explain how the article The Lady and the Tramp (II): Feminist
Welfare Politics, Poor Single Mothers, and the Challenge of Welfare Justice by
Gwendolyn Mink relates to the thematic focus of working women and the Marxist
and socialist branch of feminism. In Feminist Thought: A More Comprehensive
Introduction, Rosemarie Tong explains that Marxist and socialist feminists
understand women s oppression as a labor issue. Women s work is not viewed as a
productive contribution to society. One of the ways Marxist and socialist feminists
sought to improve women s oppression was through the wages for housework
campaign of the 1970s, which fought for work done in the domestic sphere to be
paid and respected by society. In this same vein, Mink s article can be viewed as a
continuation of sorts of the wages for housework campaign. Mink suggests that
poor single mothers have the right for their work to be recognized by society and
supported economically like the Marxist and socialist feminist in the 1970s.
According to Marxists, women are oppressed because they are not viewed as a class
of workers, which is highly valued in a Marxist society. It is important to note that
Marxists reject the conception of human nature, claiming that our ability to produce
our means of subsistence is what makes humans different from animals that are
governed by instinct (Tong 94). Therefore, humans are what we are because of the
productive activities we engage in to meet our needs.

Art of the Italian Renaissance
One of the greatest stories from the Italian Renaissance is the one of Fillipo
Brunelleschi and Lorenzo Ghiberti. In 1401, the directors of the art of the Santa
Maria del Fiore Cathedral held a contest for artists; to create panels for a the doors
on the east entrance (Kleiner, 560 2). Because the east doors faced the cathedral, the
people thought it extremely prestigious to be able to participate in such a massive
creation. After the first competition round, two finalists remained; Brunelleschi, an
accomplished and experienced artist, and Ghiberti, a younger artist, but one with just
as much talent. The two competitors were required to create a panel (or square) of
Abraham readying to sacrifice Issac. Before reading which was which,... Show more

It is said that history repeats itself, and in some instances this is true. Many
Savonarola situations happened around the world, but one in particular stood out
to me as I have read about it before. The Boxer Rebellion, which occurred in China
from 1899 to the early 1900 s. A large part of the Western world considered China
as less developed than them, despite the fact that China had existed long before
these countries. Certain people in China grew very tired of being treated as
underlings as they felt that the people of the western world were taking advantage of
them. Because of this a secret alliance began; a dangerous union which grew into a
desperate attempt to purify China from all western thought. Hence the Boxer
Rebellion, which was a formation of young people bent on destroying any and
everything to do with western thought. Like the situation involving Savonarola and
the destruction of classical texts, participants in the rebellion harmed and killed
many missionaries, destroying homes, people, and even hospitals; they burned a
racecourse built by the English, and were involved in many lengthy battles. It is
evident that the Boxers thought all Western ideas were evil, and they assumed the
only way to save themselves was to rid their country of foreign ideas; something that
is familiar when compared to Girolamo Savonarola and his frantic actions to purify
Florence from humanistic ideas. My

For some reason back in the fifties the bible was a good source for movies, and you
have to understand one of the reasons will be found in the strength of genre
movies. For the director, there were certain advantages with working within a given
genre. Because the characters, the plot, and the conventions were already
established, they provided the director with a kind of cinematic shorthand greatly
simplified the task of storytelling. (Boggs, M., Petrie, D., 2008 7th Ed.) The
original movie was shot in 1923 as a silent film which was also directed by Cecil
Demille. The cast of the 1956 remake of the Ten Commandmentswere cast from the
original silent film. The production of this film was good for that time period. The
production crew had it easy when it came to the cast, due to most of the cast came
from the original film from 1923. The props, scene, and setting that the production
crew used were great, for an example in the film Ten Commandments, the scene with
Moses bringing down the ten commandments from the mountain top after talking
with God. When you look at that scene the production crew does a good job with
the dark clouds and the fire like orange colors in the setting of the clouds. The
mountain that was in the back ground of Moses really stood out in that scene, when
Moses gave the ten commandment to the children of Israel, he stood on the mountain
and with his red over garment blowing in the wind
Machiavelli s The Prince
Niccolo Machiavelli s advice towards leaders in his book The Prince is both
relevant and not relevant today in many ways. The European leader that I have
chosen to prove what advice Machiavelli gave in The Prince is relevant and what is
not, is Edward Heath. Some of Edwards work relates to the advice given by
Machiavelli while many of it is the pure opposite of Machiavelli s advice. Edward
Heath was prime Minister for the Conservative Party from June 1970 through
March 1975. While he was in ruling, in 1972 unemployment began to rise
considerably in Europe. In order to to help this crisis and reduce the amount of
unemployment Heath inflated the economy which eventually made everything
worse. Machiavelli said, He who successfully adapts his actions according to the
nature of the times will be successful, while he whose actions clash with the times
will not be successful. Machiavelli is trying to say that when a problem arises you
must be prepared to solve the problem the best you can... Show more content on

Many years later people figured out that it is to be untrue. What Edward did, has
caused a great deal of damage to the country. Edward was dishonest. Machiavelli talks
about being dishonest many times in his book, The Prince. Machiavelli quotes in his
book, A wise lord cannot, nor ought he to, keep his promises when such observance
would place him at a disadvantage, and when the reasons for which he gave his
word no longer exist. Machiavelli is basically saying it s ok to be dishonest and
not keep your promise in order to be a great leader. This is not true because Edward
lied and that did not make him a powerful or a better leader, it just made him the
very opposite. Being dishonest is one thing that is not true or relevant to being a
successful leader which is one reason why Machiavelli s advice in The Prince is not
Essay about A Home that I Can Point To
A Home that I Can Point To
We are moving once again. The new place is barely down the street, but we have to
move again. This is the fifth time in six years that I have moved from one
apartment to another. Im glad we are finally moving out of the old apartment,
because the guy below us constantly banged on his ceiling when I walked from one
room to another. Its been awhile since I have had a place to call home, a place I can
grow fond of. I have hope that one day we will live in a house and not have to worry
about cranky neighbors or stairs to climb before I reach my front door.
As I read the short piece from Sandra Cisneross, The House On Mango Street, I
began to appreciate everything that I had in life. The story is narrated ... Show more

The inside of the apartment was nothing special. Brown carpeting and peered off
tiles made it feel dead. The loud noise of the freeway right next door vibrated our
home from time to time and prevented us from keeping our doors open. From our
balcony view all you could see was the freeway and the tag writing on the neighbors
fences.
I knew this place was not the greatest, but it was better than what we previously
had. My mother always knew how to make the best of things, so she and my
stepfather decided to refurbish the entire apartment. The best part about it was that
we did it with our very own hands. Everything was perfect. The tiles by the door,
kitchen, and dining room were white with a splash of peach and gray. The granite
stone on the kitchen counter top matched perfectly with the tiles. The carpet and
couches were replaced to make the place look brighter and full of life. The wood
on the wall touching only the living room was also replaced with glass to make the
room look and feel larger than it actually was. The rooms were nicely decorated
with the same granite, tile, and carpet. My room was full of dcor of all my
childhood memories; stuffed animals, books, and school awards were dispersed
throughout the room. Though we only lived there for four years, I keep the
memories and love that home gave me deep in my heart.
At the time, I thought where I lived was awful. But now, seeing this little girl suffer

Charlemagne, The King Of The Franks Essay
Charlemagne, also known as Charles the Great, was born around the 2nd of April
747 and died on the 28th of January 814. He was noted down in history as King of
the Franks, a Germanic speaking people who invaded western Rome residing in
current day Germany, the King of the Lombards, Germanic people who resided in
parts of the Italian peninsula, and finally was the first Holy Roman Emperor. Another
name that has been bestowed upon Charlemagnewas the title Father of Europe . Due
to the Carolingian empire s rule, Charlemagne was able to unite nearly all of western
Europe. The last empire to do so was the Roman Empire and no other country would
unite Europe until the eighteen hundred under Napoleon. Charlemagne s father was
named Pepin the Short, a name that deceives most on the battlefield due to his
incredible and unmatched strength. Pepin the Short was the predecessor to
Charlemagne as the king of the Franks. Pepin also helped set up the Carolingian
dynastybut did not peak its power until the crowning of Charlemagne. Charlemagne s
successor was his son, Louis the Pious, who would be dissimilar from Charlemagne.
In fact, for most of his reign, Louis the Pious would have to deal with many civil
wars which foreshadowed the diminishing strength of the Carolingian empire.
Charlemagne would serve as the prototype for most of the medieval western Europe
for the next millennium until the founding of the new world.

Inherited Genetic Variations
Inherited genetic variations may result from new genetic combinations through
meiosis, nondisjunction errors occurring during cell division and through mutations
in the DNA of egg and sperm cells.
Meiosis is a cell division that results in four daughter cells. The daughter cells have
half the number of chromosomes of the parent cells. In meiosis the Law of
Independent Assortment states that the alleles of one gene sort in gametes
independently of the alleles of another gene. Meiosis increases inherited genetic
variation because during meiosis, homologous chromosomes each from one pair of
parents. The parents chromosomes cross over and and trade some genes when they
break apart. This recombination of forming together then breaking apart and

The War Of The Middle East
The war in the Middle East is an Arab Israeli conflict with a lot of external parties
with their own interests involved. The seed for the war was sown by the British
Empire in charge of Palestine in the early twentieth century, when it promised an
independent Arab state that included Palestine to the Arabs (Shah). In contradiction
the British Foreign Minister also promised the same land to the Israelis through the
Balfour Declaration and aid for the establishment of a Jewish national home in
Palestine (Shah). Since, then the United Nations and the United Statesof America
have fueled the war between these two parties. The involvement of foreign party and
their tendency to wage war against any Arab regime, that disagrees being a mere
puppet has created a power vacuum increasing instability within the Arab nations.
This has increased violence and terrorism in the Middle East, the effects of which is
felt throughout the world. The main causes of this war and why it has not yet been
solved can be found by digging deep into the concepts of Greater Israel, direct
involvement of external forces and petrodollars .
The main concept behind Greater Israel is to expand the territories of Israel and
weaken the Arab forces. After the formation of the United Nations, the UN backed
by the US proposed the partition of Palestine from which the minority Jewish
population received the majority of the best lands (Richman). The majority of
Palestinians who are of Arab origin have been

Broken Bonds In African American Home
In Mk Asante memoir of buck struggles are reveled regarding the broken bonds in
African American homes. The motive of this essay is to evaluate the silence and
invisibility within black families through a feminist theoretical frame walk
regards to the crucial role the mother s strength is to the African American family.
Broken homes seems to be normal in society now of days and the burnt of the
weight is left on the mother. Black men are an Integral part of the black family and
this is important for men to lead with understanding, support and Love. In this
memoir family struggles are current when Mk Asante mother Carol also known as

Reality Boy Theme
Through the beginning to the middle of November, I read the book Reality Boy by
A.S. King. Reality Boy is about Gerald Faust, a kid in highschool who had his
whole childhood screwed up because he was on reality TV. His mom thought he
was retarded, his sister constantly beats him up, and the whole world laughed in
amusement as they watched him take craps everywhere. The book was interesting
because he started out as a kid known as The Crapper and he was able to turn his
life around for the better. The theme of this novel is that even though you have
experienced awful things in your life and has been screwed inside and out, you can
still overcome the obstacles that stand in your way of success. For example, on page

There is a lot of adult themed topics throughout the book like sex, cursing, and
many others. A young reader, for example, my sister who is eight years old,
shouldn t be reading this because nobody wants an eight year old kid going around
and yelling F*K THIS S**T! (King 104). I am pretty sure you get the picture with
the other topics. I recommend that librarians should put a warning label or a
parental advisory sign on it or something because this book should not be in our
library and especially an elementary s library. Speaking of this book, I give it an 8
out of 10. It is interesting and funny at some points, but I just didn t like how his
entire childhood was ruined because of his family. I really wish that there were
less cursing in it because most of it is unnecessary. But, if this book was in a
series, I would definitely read it. In conclusion, Reality Boy by A.S. King is an
interesting but inappropriate boo, but for me it was a pleasure to read it. I liked ho

Intelligent Satire in Voltaire s Candide Essay
Intelligent Satire in Candide
In the story Candide, Voltaire uses the experiences of the character Candide and
dialogue between characters to dispute the theory by other philosophers that
Everything is for the best in this best of all possible worlds (Voltaire). Voltaire
believed that the society that he lived in had many flaws, flaws which are illustrated
throughout the story. Voltaire uses satire to take aim at the military
, religion, and
societies emphasis of physical beauty, to illustrate that we do not live in the best of
all possible worlds.
One institution that Voltaire takes aim at in Candide is the institution of the military.

Religion also comes under satirical attack in Candide. Voltaire uses Candide s
experiences to illustrate hypocrisy within the church. In chapter 24 of Candide,
brother Giroflee tells Candide that his life as a monk is miserable. Brother
Giroflee tells Candide that he was forced into his position as a monk, which gives
the underlying message that members of the clergy are not truly dedicated to God.
Brother Giroflee also makes the statement, Jealousy, faction, and fury spring up, by
natural law, within the walls of convents (Voltaire 1602). Voltaire demonstrates his
view that monks and nuns no better than the common sinner. From the standpoint
that we live in the best of all possible worlds, the ideas of jealousy, faction, and fury
should have no place inside the walls of convents. This is a round about way for
Voltaire to say that we do not live in the best of all possible worlds.
Voltaire also illustrated in Candide that society as a whole places more emphasis on
physical appearance than on inner beauty. Throughout much of the story, Candide is
obsessed with the idea of being reunited with Cunegonde. Candide speaks of how
beautiful his future bride is and of how much he really loves her. As the story
concludes, Candide is reunited with Cunegonde only to find that she has become
ugly. Candide has a change of heart and

Introduction:
Forensic Chemistry involves a variety of different techniques in which have the
ability to analyse samples found on crime scene, one set of techniques is that of
chromatography.
Chromatography is a process commonly used to separate substances in accordance to
their differential distribution between what is referred to as a stationary phase and a
moving or mobile phase . There are a variety of different types of chromatography
some include; paper chromatography, gas chromatography and high performance
liquid chromatography.
Chromatography works by analyzing a substance in terms of its retention time when
passing through what is referred to as a stationary phase. Retention time refers to the
amount of time a substance takes to pass through the stationary phase, upon analysis
the retention time determines what substances are present within a sample. For
example, if a particular substance within takes longer than another to reach the
detector results can then be categorized into which substances are present within the
sample. The results found are presented in what is called a chromatograph.

Essay on 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act
1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act
Right before a movie starts in your theatre, you re subjected to many
advertisements. One that always stood out was the piracy campaign ad which
gave a perspective on the downloading of movies from an off set worker. His
distinctive message was that, movie stars are paid exorbitant amounts of money but
the on and off set workers are not. By downloading the movie or screener in
advanced, you re really hurting the people behind the magic. So what does this have
to do with us? Under the 1998 Digital Millennium Copyright Act it states that

I believe internet piracy has created a new topic that wont be resolved by the end of
this paper or anytime soon. In the case of the RIAA going after certain internet
service providers i.e. Verizon, has led me to believe that even though countless acts
of piracy are being committed daily, by prosecuting the people without their full
consent still constitutes as a violation. The question is how far can the law take you?
When Napster closed its gates in 2000, there were 20 million users angry and
confused, leaving many people to blame Metallica: the iconic heavy metal group.
They felt that the music that was being distributed violated the intellectual
property law. The group blamed Napster (in its free form idea), not Napster Inc.
(today) that they were not being compensated for and also one of the major reasons
for the slumping record sales. The only problem I see with this is that the slaying of
one enemy only to seed the field with a thousand new opponents opponents who are,
not indecently, its own best customers. (Cave and Quistgaard) Programs like Kazaa,
Gnutella, WinMX and a thousand more just like its predecessor have one key
difference: there is no central server. This means now the record label cannot
individually sue. Or can they?
The approach to this problem now is by individually fining people. The RIAA
recently settled lawsuits against four college students for $12,500 to $17,500 each.

The I Drove My Friend s Diesel Station Wagon
The first time I drove my friend s diesel station wagon, I was impressed. How it
seemingly sipped single droplets of fuel amazed me. In contrast, my father s
pickup truck guzzles gasoline like a drunkard downs alcohol. In our time of
expensive petroleum and tight environmental restrictions, an automobile that can
travel farther with less fuel means everything. Today, the very word diesel is
synonymous with efficiency and reliability, and most importantly, savings for the
people. But throughout our country s history, diesel has seen storm and calm, rain
and shine. To understand its significance to us in the 21st century, we must explore
the history of the word, from how it came to be, to how it has defined hope and
progress, disdain and disappointment, advancement and recognition. Most of all,
we must examine its relevance to people of the times. In the Oxford English
Dictionary, diesel is defined as a type of internal combustion engine invented by
Rudolf Diesel. ( Diesel ) In 1893, Mr. Diesel patented the first working prototype of
his concept, created with the goal of overcoming the major drawback of the
gasoline engine, high fuel consumption. As Diesel collaborated with manufactures
to build upon his designs, the automotive world quickly realized the advantage of
such an engine. Diesel s engines were capable of running on a variety of fuels that
were cheaper than gasoline, including tar oil, paraffin oil, and kerosene, and using
less of it. They also proved to be
Why Should We Protect Sharks
Should We Protect Sharks? Sharks are among the most perfectly constructed
creatures in nature. Some forms have survived for two hundred million years.
(Eugenie Clark) This may be a beautiful quote, but it is often the opposite of what
comes to mind when people think of sharks. Shark s safety has never been a big
concern; but should it be? Many articles are now saying that we should be doing
more to protect these aquatic creatures. They balance ecosystems, and barely bite but
we harvest them like meat!
One of the many reasons we should protect sharks is the fact that they are very
important to the oceans ecosystem. Many people enjoy sea food like salmon, cod,
etc. With no sharks, many other species would be off the map. Peter Benchley
describes them as, ... above all, integral members of the ocean food chain. Sharon
Guynup s article What Do You Know About Sharks says something similar. Without
sharks, the ocean s delicate ecosystem would be disrupted. Species that sharks
normally eat such as seals would start overpopulating and would soon wipe out the
animals they normally eat, like small fish. Because sharks are such dangerous

Scientists are estimating that, worldwide, populations of some species of sharks

But the shark s greatest enemy is people. Humans kill sharks for food, use their
skins for leather, make medicine from their oil, and use shark teeth for jewelry.
Not only is it bad that we are killing them, but what you probably don t know is that
shark populations take a while to rebound. Most sharks take at least 9 10 years to
reach the reproductive age and produce very small litters of pups. Sharks have been
around longer than dinosaurs; these are majestic creatures and we need to stop
finning, harvesting, and hurting them. They deserve to live, just like

according to Voeltz. He admits that Valley Motors is at the northerly end of those

been perceived as being either too far north or not southerly enough. The Ralph

The Search for Extraterrestrial Life Essay
Abstract: Scientists claim that other life forms do in fact exist based on probability.
The conditions necessary for life are likely to be present on various other planets.
Signs of possible life have been found in material from outer space. Much research

entirely dedicated to finding and establishing communication with extra terrestrials. If
other life forms are found, communication with these beings will be a difficult task.

Among the billions of stars in each galaxy, many have planets that revolve around
them. At least a few are bound to be of the right size and have the correct spatial
orientation with respect to their star to allow life to grow. We believe this because
life exists on the Earth. Astronomers have concluded that there must be hundreds of
billions of other stars with conditions approximating those of the sun. Therefore
there could be a million earth like planets with advanced civilizations in the Milky
Way galaxy alone (Stilley). It is very probable that there is intelligent life elsewhere
in the universe.
Most astronomers and scientists seem firmly convinced of this fact. Although there
is not any direct (or even indirect) evidence to support these claims that other
sentient life is sharing the universe with us. However, this lack of evidence showing
that extraterrestrial life forms exist is not proof that they do not exist. It just does
not seem logical that our planet is the only place where life and intelligence could
have developed. The odds are billions against life of some form being unique to the
Earth only. The Earth is unimportant in the grand scale of things in the galaxy. By
this I am referring to its size and position in the universe. In fact, the American
Association for the Advancement of Science suggests that the true question that we

Should Romeo And Juliet Get Married
I think Romeo and Juliet shouldn t get secretively married because they just met
each other and her nurse doesn t want her to get married because she thinks Juliet is
going to have a baby if she get married. Another thing is the Montagues and the
Capulets doesn t get alone. So if she was to get married to him there would be a fight
or an argument like everyday.
The biggest and most obvious reason is that the Montagues and Capulets have a
blood feud. The families can barely pass each other in the street without the situation
devolving into a sword fight. It isn t likely, then, that either family would approve of
a marriage between Romeo and Juliet. Another reason they shouldn t get married is
because Juliet already has a prospective suitor

Along with her time period, the late 1800 s, it was very unknown for women to be killers and were seen as the weaker sex , which is also one of the reasons why Mrs. Borden was so popular for this case. But how do you get away with a murder of your parents? Lizzie Borden was born on July 19th, 1860 in Fall River, Massachusetts. First born, Emma Borden, was very prepared at age of 6 to have a baby sister (Alice) and teach her how to love and would protect her from anything. Unfortunately, Alice died at the age of 2 from hydrocephalus, which is water in the brain. On Emma s 9th birthday, she was even more prepared to take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Abby always tried being a loving mother and tried teaching them courtesy and more, but the girls just wouldn t take it. Lizzie did not make friends easily but to her, she didn t really need manyНѕ all she needed was her sister who promised her birthВmother she would watch after her and she has. Many witnesses and others have thought that Sarah had a bipolar disorder which is very generic and can be passed down by family members. Sarah also had fits of anger which is also genetic like anger issues. Emma , for a year and a half, left to go to Wheaton Female Seminary and was very nervous that this absence was going to cause Abby to take over poor little Lizzie. August 3, a day before the murder of Abby and Andrew, Lizzie was found at a drugstore and unsuccessfully tried buying a poison. During this, Emma was out of town and Abby was in a finished argument with Andrew. August 4, 1892, Andrew and Abby Borden found dead, one on the couch and the
  • 3. High School Swimming Pool Arriving at Thompson Rivers University, we stepped off the bus and looked at the pool. The stench of chlorine burned our noses as we entered the pool. The interior design of the sport complex was amazing although it seemed like a jail. The pool reminded me about the same pool during Frasers swim meet. The vast poolwas filled with swimmers diving in and climbing out of the lanes. We had a bit of time to rest before the first event started so we made use of the time to practice. Luckily, the individual medleys were the first events to start off the 2015 High SchoolSwimming Provincials swim meet and I didn t have to swim until event 29. Luckily, I was going to be the last one to swim since I was swimming freestyle in the 100m mixed relay. The referee shouted, On Your Mark....Get Set, and the same deafening buzz pierced my eardrums. The swimmers dove into the water like dolphins and swam towards the other side and back like mad sharks. As I stepped up onto the platform, my heartbeat quickened and sweat dripped down from my head as I got ready to jump just as my teammate slammed into the wall. Bending my knees and pushing off to gain as much power as I could get, I splashed into the cold and freezing water that I haven t touched in hours. My arms would not slow down take a rest. Constantly, my head spun from side to side so I could glare at the swimmers beside me who were trying so hard to pass me. Speeding towards the other side, I pulled my legs in and did a flip turn. Unfortunately, water rushed into my nose as I forcefully pushed off the wall. The two swimmers beside me were just a few inches in front of me! My legs quickened its movement to boost myself to catch up to those two. However, instead of speeding up, I slowed down and eventually lost to both of them and ended up getting third in my heat. When I reached the bleachers, Mr. Tustin was still there. Water drops left my wet hair like children jumping off diving boards. I was dissatisfied with my time. I had only achieved a 50m freestyle time of 32 seconds. I had also let my

This report covers the purpose of Google as a search engine, the technologies that it uses for its searches, how it managed to beat its predecessors and the hardware that it uses, both old and new ones. The reason why I chose Google is because I ve been using it for a number of years now and I thoroughly enjoy the experience of surfing the web with it. 2. Key Information 1.1Introduction The idea of Google developed when its founders wanted to organize an infinite amount of information on the web. It was first called Backrub , and later on adopted the name Googol, after a mathematical terminology. • 5. The Influence Of Book Censorship In America Book Censorship in America Beginning in 399 B.C. when Socrates was sentenced to drink poison for corrupting his students due to his non traditional ideas, book censorship has become increasingly more prominent in today s society. In fact, 275 books were banned in the United States alone in the year 2015, according to the American Library Association (2016). Books such as The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and even the ever popular Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling have been banned for a variety of reasons (American Library Association, 2015). On the other hand, many concerned citizens believe that books should be banned because they may contain violence such as shown in The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Another reason people believe that books should be banned is because of the book containing racial themes, as shown in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain. Profanity is also a concern for many Americans. A book banned for this type of content is The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger. Sexual content is also a fear amongst individuals, such as shown in Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. Lastly, individuals are extremely terrified that children will read about ideas that are different from their own and questions the social hierarchy. • 8. Essay on Baby DJ School The word DJ stands for disc jockey, a person who uses samples of recorded music to make music . The educational experience of Baby DJ School is a portal into the wonderful worlds of electro, hip hop, and house music. Baby DJ school originated in Brooklyn, New York and was opened by Natalie Elizabeth Weiss, DJ, composer and playwright. She opened the school in order to attribute gross and fine motor skills, spatial reasoning, and language skills and foster a special bond between caretaker and baby. The school provides an interactive music program for toddlers and teaches them how to make their own beats via using their own creativity. The idea of the Baby DJ School gained massive amounts of popularity via media and internet and became a spectacular day care for kids. The school has gained so much popularity recently that even Vice Media, a broadcasting company that reaches a large global audience, published a video about Baby DJ School. The video contains dozens of awesome images of babies playing around with the equipment, along with lots of positive vibes from the teacher and the parents. However it is not an advertisement. Vice displays a more realistic portrayal of the school instead of advertise it to a specific audience. The success of the school is due to the daycare aspects as well as the learning piece that goes along with listening to music and rhythms at such a young age. Not only are babies increasing their motor functions and brain development, but the parents can listen and feel involved in the process of their kid learning something new. This type of music education at such young age could change the entire way that education has worked in the past for infants. The multifaceted benefits of the program far outweigh the disincentives of a normal daycare education, now students go learn how to mix music with turntables and spin records instead of going to story time. The school only costs 200 dollars per class and I believe signing a kid to this school will be one of the greatest investments that a parent can do for forging strong bonds with the
  • 9. The Culture Of The Word Culture There are many laity use of the word culture that gets thrown around in day to day conversation amongst our peers. Culture is used to define certain aspects of our lives and how we live on a daily basis. There are some that believe that they do not possess a culture. There are others who feel that we all live our own individual unique culturein our lives. However, being that culture is such a broad subject, the only way to define it is to operationalize its context and attempt to try and understand it based on a universal definition. Sergiovanni and Corbally s (1986) definition of culture includes a system of values, symbols, and shared meanings in a group that includes embodying these values, symbols, and shared meanings in ritualize practice. Using this particular definition of culture, the small island of Okinawa is enriched with it. Their way of day to day lifestyle, geographical terrain, as well as their militaryhistory can all be analyzed through their culture as well as provide information in terms of our current military jargon for the benefit of the United States Army. Culturally, Okinawans separate themselves from the association of the Japanese culture, even though they are still considered a territory of Japan. The differences in their landscape, their way of life, language, and even their societal infrastructure are the basis of their adamant separation from Japan. Its geographical complexities are also what make Okinawa unique from its neighboring

  • 11. A Multicultural Education The statics in the Kim article were staggering. Being in education for 17 years I have personally seen the change in the student demographics. However Kim summarizes the truth that the demography of the educators has not changed. The introduction focuses on the state of crisis in education involving the achievement gap. This study is focused not just on ethnicity, but also socioeconomic status. From this study the cause to look at multicultural educationis very evident. The main area of the paper will explore the varied approaches to dealing with multiculturalism and the critiques of all the misconceptions and the impact of whiteness. Kim relays the four phases of multicultural education: incorporating ethnic studies into school curricula, total school reform for educational equality, inclusion of other minority groups by incorporating their history and culture into the curriculum, and analyzing the differences of race, class and gender. In order to move forward with the implementation of multicultural education, educators most be made more aware of integrating content, building a diverse knowledge base which is delivered equitably in the classroom, and making the culture part of the every day educational routine. According to Kim, in order to feel successful with the implementation, there are several approaches which schools can take. The contribution approach is simply identifying with the icons and holidays of the culture. The additive approach is embedding
  • 12. Analysis Of Raymond Carver s Cathedral Pastor Bonhoeffer once said, Judging others makes us blind, whereas love is illuminating. By judging other s, we blind ourselves to our own evil and to the grace which others are just as entitled to as we are. The way we treat people reflects on ourselves. The way the world judges and condemns each other is very true and an everyday reality for most. The same could be said about people who are limited by one or more of their six senses and are judged by the majority of the population who are not limited and make preconceived notions about these limitations which can bind them. Raymond Carver s Cathedral explores many literary devices that reveal the pre conceived perception towards people with physical limitations without understanding the individual first, which is still a problem today. The protagonist, the narrator is closed minded and lacks communication with his wife, which clearly exhibits the distance and troubles in their relationship. The narrator is not happy with having the blind man, Robert, who he sees as a stranger over in his home which stirs up more trouble with his wife. You don t have any friends, she said. Period, she said, goddamn it, his wife s just died! Don t you understand that? The man s lost his wife (Carver 107). The wife is obviously mad with her husband who doesn t understand the close relationship she has with Robert, which is a mutual understanding. Throughout their limited conversation the narrator asks about Roberts wife who has just
  • 13. Application Of A Distributed Agricultural Sensor Network Abstract As the world s population continues to grow, new agricultural technologies will be needed to keep up with the growing demand. To accomplish this, agricultural systems must increase production while at the same time more effectively utilizing and conserving the resources that go into that production. One possible solution is the collection and analysis of environmental data. IoT sensor networks can cheaply provide distributed data that can be used to improve plant health, increase harvest yields, and decrease waste. The primary focus of this project will be to prototype a distributed agricultural sensor network that will be able to monitor the environment, network and analyze the data on the cloud, and finally provide feedback to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is an active area of IoT research and will be the primary focus of this project. If data can be effectively gathered, networked, and analyzed, then that data can then be used to impart real and significant change on the environment. For agricultural systems this will result in improved plant health, increased harvest yields, and decreased waste. A.Background One of the most utilized and standardized IoT stacks is the IEEE 802.11.4, 6LoWPAN, RPL, and CoAP stack. The IoT stack layers are similar to OSI and they share many of the same abstraction layer divisions. These similarities assist with the interoperability of IoT protocols with those of the Internet. The IEEE802.15.4 protocol defines the physical and link layers of stack. These layers define how data is modulated onto the channel, how the channel is shared between multiple users, as well as the low level packet checks and retransmissions. IEEE802.15.4 operates in the 2.4GHz ISM band using Quadrature Phase Shift Keying with additional Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum encoding. This allows the radio to better reject noise and other interference. IEEE802.15.4 utilizes 16, 5MHz channels in order to generate a data throughput of 250kbps. The maximum payload size is 127 Bytes [1]. Compared to WiFi, the data rate and maximum packet size is significantly less. These characteristics are the result of the limited hardware used for

The global crisis of global warming is further heightened because of deforestation. Forests play a significant role in ensuring that greenhouse gases do not enter the atmosphere by regulating the air with its natural processes. Soil impoverishment, is caused during the destruction of forests by increasing the chances of soil erosion and flooded. Soil erosion is caused by rainfalls and poor crop growth, as there are no crops protecting and holding the soil together. This would affect the fertility of the soil due to the depletion in its nutrients. In the long run, the soil would lose its ability to sustain crops. From this point of view, nationalism and the politics of ethnic cleansing represent the dark side of democracy (Bernard Yack, 2003) . National identity becomes horribly wrong, especially in multinational societies, when people sometimes rank identities hierarchically, leading to the rejection of another nation as inferior. The modernist theories imply that until the beginning of the 19th century, almost no one had more than local loyalties. National identity and unity were originally imposed from above, by European states, because they were necessary to modernize the economy and society. In this theory, nationalist conflicts are an unintended side effect. For state theorists, pervasive loyalty or devotion to the polity is purposefully encouraged through the allocation of services and privileges, with the state adjudicating disputes to bolster unity (Bernard Yack, 2003) . Ernest Gellner, a philosopher and social anthropologist, argued that nations are a by product of industrialization. Modernization theorists regard the printing press and capitalism as necessary conditions for nationalism. The greater the group nationalism, the greater the group homogeneity of attitudes, beliefs, language spoken and ways of behaving, the greater is the group cohesiveness. Partly as a result of

Outline Of Recommendation For Change 3.1 Overview of Recommendation for Change As mentioned throughout the previous section, Target has a very comprehensive CSR program that covers most areas under this field. Because of this, there is little for the company to do in regards to starting any new divisions within their CSR efforts; therefore, I believe it would be most beneficial to fine tune some of its programs to align with the company s customer base more closely. Additionally, I believe some of Target s current CSR efforts are rather broad and the company could benefit by really specializing within some of the areas and establishing goals moving forward. Finally, although Target seems to emphasize its dedication to supporting the community and collaborating with other organization, there seems to be a disconnect between this and some of the company s actions. 3.2 Aligning Company s CSR Efforts with Customer Base Target recently released its third quarter financial statements for 2016, where the company recorded a 11% increase in EPS over last year. CEO Brian Cornell credited much of this growth to its strong back to school shopping sales. He went on to say that Target has invested much effort in differentiating themselves from other competitors like Walmart by offering a more family focused selection, particularly with children s apparel and educational toys. While it seems that this strategy is currently paying off for Target from its recent financial results, I believe Target could benefit even more

Unrequited love often causes desperation and one sided devotion. Olivia experiences unrequited love directly and indirectly. When Olivia asks herself Even so quickly may one catch the plague? • 27. The Black Womanhood By Linda Brent Essay Black womanhood is extremely complex because this is a group of people who have marginalized for centuries. There is a burden put on black women that other groups do not experience. Being a woman in today s society is a burden alone, but on top of that being African American presents another set of obstacles. Linda Brent in Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl and Janie Crawford in Their Eyes Were Watching God, are both black women who are oppressed by society as a whole, particularly males. Since they have to face twice the amount of oppression, they have even more of a reason to fight for their basic human rights of liberty and respect. By looking at Linda Brent s fight for independence as a slave, we can see how even though Janie was not a slave, she still fights for independence within her relationships with men. This is important because it shows how Jacobs and Hurston believed that domesticity and over sexualization limits the power of black women therefore they have to be physically and mentally strong. Domesticity limits Janie and Linda s freedom because it allows them to only control household responsibilities while still being ruled by men. Linda Brent was a house slave which some may say she was privileged but she was subjected to the master s dominance as well. As a house slave, she got a taste of domesticity by cooking, cleaning, and caring for the master s children. Unfortunately at the time society believed that women were meant to stay inside and take care

Many proponents for rationing healthcare resources feel it is only a matter of time before it becomes necessary. Healthcare analysts and providers predict a health care crisis because of: * Costs of Healthcare * Increased number of uninsured individuals * Unknown status of current healthcare system Factors that are affecting these conclusions consist of: * Expenses are rising faster than the cost of living. * Medicare and Medicaid spending (which comprises 26 percent of the federal budget) is expanding faster than the economic growth rate * Individuals and their families continue to pay a significant amount out of pocket (Ukleja Center for Ethical Leadership, 2012, Slide 3) While these factors are compelling, the numbers representing US spending costs ultimately lend credence to the argument for healthcare rationing. In June of 2011, the National Coalition on Health Care reported healthcare spending reached 18.2% of US Gross Domestic Product (GDP), up by 5.1% from the prior year (The National Coalition on Health Care, 2011, p. 1). People who settled Appalachia were not inclined to be bound to institutions, religious or otherwise. Those ties and that external authority were part of what they wanted to leave behind. Southern mountain dialect (as the folk speech of Appalachia is called by linguists) is certainly archaic, but the general historical period it represents can be narrowed down to the days of the first Queen Elizabeth, and can be further particularized by saying that what is heard today is actually a sort of Scottish flavored Elizabethan English. This is not to say that Chaucerian forms will not be heard in everyday use, and even an occasional Anglo Saxon one as well (Dial). While searching The Profit of the Great Smoky Mountains one character that stands out as being a unique American is Granny or Mis Cayce. Mis Cayce is an elderly woman whose birth was probably in the early 1800 s in the Appalachian community she still lived in. She grew up, grew old and will die in the region, probably without ever leaving it. In her first introduction she wore a cap, which had a flapping frill and was surmounted by a pair of gleaming spectacles. A bandana kerchief was crossed over her breast, and she wore a blue and white checked homespun dress of the same pattern and style that she had worn here fifty years ago (Murfree). Her dress was that of 18th century garments. The frilled cap was probably a Bavolette which was a ribbon frill at the back of the bonnet. Its purpose was covering the neck, which was considered an erogenous zone in the mid 19th century (History of Hats for Women). The Bavolette

Abstract The ultimate goal of Fiber Wireless (FI WI) networks is to convergence of various optical and wireless technologies under a single infrastructure in order to take advantage of their complementary features and therefore providing a network capable of supporting bandwidth hungry emerging applications for both fixed and mobile clients. The Fi Wi architecture is based on radio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This means that traffic generated from users communicating only in the wireless network does not have to be propagated towards the optical network as happens with RoF technology. Thus, distributed MAC protocols, e.g. IEEE 802.11b, avoid the fiber s extra propagation delays that degrade their performance. This feature removes a possible limitation regarding the length of the deployed fiber while it adds a degree of resiliency to the system since local wireless traffic can be served even when connectivity with the optical segment is lost. [pic] OPTICAL ACCESS NETWORKS A growing number of providers worldwide are adopting optical technologies in the access network and towards the client s premises (Fiber to the Home or FTTH) due to optical fiber s ability to provide huge amounts of bandwidth in longer distances than copper, immunity to electromagnetic interference and inherent security. Fiber generally should be installed underground for safety reasons and therefore its deployment is an expensive procedure. This is mitigated by deploying a tree like network topology where a part of it is being shared by many clients. Each client is connected via a dedicated fiber to a Remote Node (RN) which in turn is connected via a single fiber to a CO. In general two technologies can be used for this implementation

This paper will address the materials that I feel are some of the most important aspects in building; foundation, wood, and concrete. Foundation is arguably the most important part of building any home, building, or structure. A solid foundation of a building guarantees a durable future of the structure. A building that is just sat down on bare earth is more likely to be cracked or damaged over time by natural forces. The three most important functions of a solid foundation is to bear the load of the building, anchor it against natural forces, and to isolate it from ground moisture. Cement is a water based binder used to bind other building materials together. It is used in the production of mortar and concrete during the construction process. Concrete is a material used in construction, made by mixing aggregate, cement, small stones and water. Cement is important because it hold structures together. Many sources states concrete was invented 1756 by a British Engineer named John Smeaton. He did so by mixing pebbles as a coarse aggregate into a powdered brick into the cement. Years layer in 1824, a English inventor named Mr Joseph Aspdin created the first true artificial cement by burning ground limestone and clay together. He is also noted for creating today s popular concrete; Portland cement. Many buildings use concrete because of its strong element. It solidifies then hardens after mixing with water and placement due to the chemical process known as hydration. Water reacts with the cement, which bonds the other components together, eventually creating a stone like material. Concrete is used to make pavements, pipe, various structures, foundations, roads, bridges, brick walls and so on. It is either produced site cast or pre cast. Site cast Concrete is standard concrete that is poured into site specific forms and cured on site; the concrete is created on the actually construction site. Precast concrete is a construction
  • 37. The Lady And The Tramp By Gwendolyn Mink Analysis In this paper, I will explain how the article The Lady and the Tramp (II): Feminist Welfare Politics, Poor Single Mothers, and the Challenge of Welfare Justice by Gwendolyn Mink relates to the thematic focus of working women and the Marxist and socialist branch of feminism. In Feminist Thought: A More Comprehensive Introduction, Rosemarie Tong explains that Marxist and socialist feminists understand women s oppression as a labor issue. Women s work is not viewed as a productive contribution to society. One of the ways Marxist and socialist feminists sought to improve women s oppression was through the wages for housework campaign of the 1970s, which fought for work done in the domestic sphere to be paid and respected by society. In this same vein, Mink s article can be viewed as a continuation of sorts of the wages for housework campaign. Mink suggests that poor single mothers have the right for their work to be recognized by society and supported economically like the Marxist and socialist feminist in the 1970s. According to Marxists, women are oppressed because they are not viewed as a class of workers, which is highly valued in a Marxist society. It is important to note that Marxists reject the conception of human nature, claiming that our ability to produce our means of subsistence is what makes humans different from animals that are governed by instinct (Tong 94). Therefore, humans are what we are because of the productive activities we engage in to meet our needs.

It is said that history repeats itself, and in some instances this is true. Many Savonarola situations happened around the world, but one in particular stood out to me as I have read about it before. The Boxer Rebellion, which occurred in China from 1899 to the early 1900 s. A large part of the Western world considered China as less developed than them, despite the fact that China had existed long before these countries. Certain people in China grew very tired of being treated as underlings as they felt that the people of the western world were taking advantage of them. Because of this a secret alliance began; a dangerous union which grew into a desperate attempt to purify China from all western thought. Hence the Boxer Rebellion, which was a formation of young people bent on destroying any and everything to do with western thought. Like the situation involving Savonarola and the destruction of classical texts, participants in the rebellion harmed and killed many missionaries, destroying homes, people, and even hospitals; they burned a racecourse built by the English, and were involved in many lengthy battles. It is evident that the Boxers thought all Western ideas were evil, and they assumed the only way to save themselves was to rid their country of foreign ideas; something that is familiar when compared to Girolamo Savonarola and his frantic actions to purify Florence from humanistic ideas. The production crew had it easy when it came to the cast, due to most of the cast came from the original film from 1923. The props, scene, and setting that the production crew used were great, for an example in the film Ten Commandments, the scene with Moses bringing down the ten commandments from the mountain top after talking with God. Sharks have been around longer than dinosaurs; these are majestic creatures and we need to stop finning, harvesting, and hurting them. They deserve to live, just like

Recently, in a telephone conversation with the current owner of Valley Motors, Greg Voeltz, on February 7, 2008, he contends Valley Motors current location is surrounded by affluent communities like Old Cherry Hills, Cherry Hills Village, Columbine Country Club, Greenwood Village, The Preserve and Polo Reserve to name a few. He explains that Valley Motors is the only independent Mercedes Benz dealership in the south metro area. To move further south, with an emphasis Fisher 2 on Highlands Ranch, is perceived as detrimental at this time for the reasons above. Additionally, south Broadway is perceived by many metro residents as the place to go for high end automobiles in the south metro area, according to Voeltz. He admits that Valley Motors is at the northerly end of those dealerships. However, Valley Motors current location has not, to his knowledge, been perceived as being either too far north or not southerly enough. The Ralph Schomp BMW dealership is moving further south due to lack of space; however, they will continue to maintain their existing location on Broadway for their Honda line. In spite of their move, there continues to be high end dealerships in the immediate area to Valley Motors like Kuni Lexus, Stevinson Jaguar and Mercedes Benz of Littleton. It is easy to get lost in the crowded industry of vehicle sales, when the products are commodities, and all

The conditions necessary for life are likely to be present on various other planets. Signs of possible life have been found in material from outer space. Much research has been dedicated to proving the existence of life on Mars. SETI is a program entirely dedicated to finding and establishing communication with extra terrestrials. If other life forms are found, communication with these beings will be a difficult task. Laws to protect humans from the dangers of extraterrestrial beings are already in effect. Although contact with alienbeings has not yet been made, technologytoday may make it a reality in the near future. Throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Among the billions of stars in each galaxy, many have planets that revolve around them. At least a few are bound to be of the right size and have the correct spatial orientation with respect to their star to allow life to grow. We believe this because life exists on the Earth. Astronomers have concluded that there must be hundreds of billions of other stars with conditions approximating those of the sun. Therefore there could be a million earth like planets with advanced civilizations in the Milky Way galaxy alone (Stilley). It is very probable that there is intelligent life elsewhere in the universe. Most astronomers and scientists seem firmly convinced of this fact. Although there is not any direct (or even indirect) evidence to support these claims that other sentient life is sharing the universe with us. However, this lack of evidence showing that extraterrestrial life forms exist is not proof that they do not exist. It just does not seem logical that our planet is the only place where life and intelligence could have developed. The odds are billions against life of some form being unique to the Earth only. The Earth is unimportant in the grand scale of things in the galaxy. By this I am referring to its size and position in the universe. In fact, the American Association for the Advancement of Science suggests that the true question that we should be

Should Romeo And Juliet Get Married I think Romeo and Juliet shouldn t get secretively married because they just met each other and her nurse doesn t want her to get married because she thinks Juliet is going to have a baby if she get married. Another thing is the Montagues and the Capulets doesn t get alone. So if she was to get married to him there would be a fight or an argument like everyday. The biggest and most obvious reason is that the Montagues and Capulets have a blood feud. The families can barely pass each other in the street without the situation devolving into a sword fight. It isn t likely, then, that either family would approve of a marriage between Romeo and Juliet. Another reason they shouldn t get married is because Juliet already has a prospective suitor
