What I Was A Salesman
No sooner then did I arrive home from class, I received a call from what I assumed was a
salesman. It was in fact, a salesman, but was for instead something I had already bought. The call
regarded a custom shirt I had ordered online. A T shirt with a blocky cartoon drawing of Otto von
Bismarck on it. The operator on the phone told me that the company could not print me the shirt
because the image was copyrightof some artist who sold the design on another website. I tried
explaining that I had taken reference from probably the same image but I had changed it to be
another art style. This however was not good enough for them, and thus had canceled my order.

There are always issues in the world that we have to face, they change with time but a lot of
them seem to have a common theme and that is indifference. I cannot help but think that people
are uncomfortable with anything that is different from the norm. Many of us are set in our ways
and we quickly remove any one who threatens that. A lot of us come from a set of foundations
that help create who we are. While doing research for this paper I searched for topics that interest
me. I also searched for a topic that anyone would be able to give their opinion on. This search lead

Spring Awakening is a rock musical set in late 19th century Germany. It follows the lives of young
teenagers (from fourteen to sixteen) as they navigate through the turmoil of their teenage sexuality.
The musical contains some explicitly mature content and themes, such as sex, conception, erotic
dreams, expressed desire for physical intimacy, physical and sexual abuse, hitting, ambiguously
consensual sex, suicide, inappropriate language such as cursing, teenage pregnancy, masturbation,
and death caused by an incorrectly executed abortion. The musical is based off of the play Spring
Awakeningwritten by Frank Wedekind in the late 1800 s. At the time, it was written for the
purpose of commenting on how German culture revolved around the purpose of oppressing young
teenagers sexual desire and shaming those who were curious about sexuality. The controversial
and, at the time, problematic themes were meant to act as a wake up call to those who forced
ignorance of sexual instruction on their children. This is the reason for the significance of the
setting, at the time Germany was focused on preventing children from becoming educated on sex.
As the characters grew up, this setting was a catalyst for the tragic events that occurred in the wake
of the children being poorly informed on sex, pregnancy, and the cause of their sexual desires.
While the musical adapted from the original play does not contain the same social commentary, the
harshness of the message is still evident.

In order to explore my topic and answer my inquiry question, I began by searching through a
variety of website articles. I then searched through the articles and narrowed it down to two that
had opposing views. Lastly, I conducted interviews with two primary sources. All these sources
gave me a better understanding of my topic, and how to answer my question. 1.5 million
children deal with divorce every year. Researchers have found that only a relatively small
percentage of children experience severe problems in the wake of divorce. Also, they have
found that most children, after the initial blow of divorce, only suffer for a short period of time.
Many children experience short term negative effects from divorce. For example some of the
effects include: anxiety, anger, shock and disbelief. These effects often disappear after the end of

children of married parents with those of divorced parents. The researchers followed kids into later

increased freedom for men to sexually explore within the male community, post World War II
extended the freedom of exploration but also created a subsequent backlash against homosexual
practices. Vining and Duberman s diaries document an extension of gay freedoms in the post
World War II period. Although Vining and Duberman give contrasting accounts of their lives as
gay males in the postwar period, common themes could be drawn in the form of friendships,

partisan attacks.
The Germans and their collaborators killed as many as 1.5 million children, including over a
million Jewish children and tens of thousands of Romani (Gypsy) children, German children with
physical and mental disabilities living in institutions, Polish children, and children residing in the
occupied Soviet Union. The chances for survival for Jewish and some non Jewish adolescents (13
18 years old) were greater, as they could be deployed at forced labor.
The fate of Jewish and non Jewish children can be categorized in the following way: 1) children
killed when they arrived in killing centers; 2) children killed immediately after birth or in
institutions; 3) children born in ghettos and camps who survived because prisoners hid them; 4)
