Health And Safety At The Workplace
Health and Safety in the Workplace The health and safety in the workplace for workers has created
a continual concern in the United States since the country was discovered. Although, a healthy and
safe work environment can be described as a work area free of health risks and absent unsafe
conditions. Indeed, the definition encompasses additional legal, moral, ethical issues. Particularly,
reporting safety issues rather than choosing to ignore them, refusing to fall under peer pressure or
fear of retaliation, not accepting bribes and making the conscious decision to report violators of the
rules. Initially, certain accidents and injuries within industries were accepted and considered a
consequence of the job, eventually workers became less accepting of inadequate working
conditions began demanding safer work environments. Therefore, numerous labor unions and
organizations formed throughout the history of the United States intended to resolve and mediate
issues between employees and employers, including the health and safety of the workers in the
workplace. Nevertheless, in an effort to avoid confusion on the accountability of employee health
and safety in the workplace the author of this paper has examined the separate entities of OSHA,
employers and employees. Although, a minute majority of workers believe that OSHA exclusively
is responsible for ensuring the health and safety of workers in the workplace; the alternative belief
is that it is the individual responsibility of

The Human Memory Process Essay
Memory is associated with the thinking again or recalling to the mind of something learned from
past experience. Human memory is an important part of human existence, but it is rarely
understandable. Memory is a mental time travel (Goldstein, 2011, p. 116). A memory can bring
back the feeling about situation, event and experience that occurred long ago. Memoryis used to
remember fact, acquired new knowledge and how to use new knowledge or skill in day to day life
(Goldstein, 2011). Sternberg (1999), defined memory as remembered the past experience to use the
information in the future. Without a memory a person cannot operate in present or think in the
future because it affect the ability to learn new knowledge. There are four major... Show more

Researcher past finding stated that memory consolidation refers to the process of memory
strengthen the resistance to interference during the encoding process (Walker, Brakefield, Hobson
Stickgold, 2003). The finding then renewed it as the processes of strengthening a memory trace
after the first information is acquired. This process categorizes into two categories which part of
the process of encoding or of storage, or it as a memory process in its own right (Mastin, 2010).
Researchers divided consolidation into two specific processes, synaptic consolidation that happens
in the first few hours after learning or encoding and system consolidation where hippocampus
dependent memories become independent of the hippocampus over a period of weeks to years.
Research on neurological stated that the process of consolidation known as a phenomenon called
long term potentiation. Synapse increased the power in order to increase the total number of signal
transferred between two neurons. Potentiation defined as the process by which synchronous firing
of neurons makes those neurons more inclined to fire together in the future. Long term potentiation
is happens when the common group of neurons fires together so often and they become
permanently sensitized to each other. Since new experiences gather together, the brain produces
more connections and pathways, then re wire connection and rearranging its organization (Mastin,
2010)
The third process of memory is

Edward Jenner s Discovery Of The Smallpox Vaccine
Edward Jenner was a British physician and scientist, who studied anatomy and surgery. Jenner is
best known for introducing the smallpox vaccination to Britain in the year of 1796. He was the
pioneer of the smallpox Vaccine and thanks to him there was cure to this deadly disease. Along
researching about Edward s discovery, it can be inferred what the term, virus, and disease, mean to
further explain this disease; and inform to others what is smallpoxhow, how this disease came
about and how one becomes infected and what are the symptoms to the disease? Indeed, it is
questioned how Jenner came to conclude for such cure, how it was then treated to patients, and how
it is now.

point of this research paper, the smallpox vaccine by Edward Jenner. I briefly explained based of my

Rene Descartes Argument For Substance Dualism
If you put a specific tool in a toolbox the robot will become lost. If the robot picks the objects up
it should also be able to clearly see and identify objects and understand commands. It should
recognize the it in question is the tool that is to be put down, go back in time to remember the
moment when you put down the tool, and distinguish the tool you put down from other ones of
similar shapes and sizes. Researchers from MIT s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence
Laboratory present an Alexa like System that allows robots to understand their items in their
environment better. For example, if you tell a robotthat one box on a table has crackers, and one

Aztec DBQ
Aztec DBQ
The Aztec empire thrived in Mexico from the 13th to the 16th centuries. In the early 16th century,
Spanish Conquistadors overtook the Aztecs as a part of the Age of Exploration. Since then,
historians have struggled to define how history should remember the Aztecs. The Aztecs were a
sophisticated civilization because of their organized government, intricate religious rituals and
memorable traditions.
The Aztecs were sophisticated for their organized government. The Aztecgovernment consisted of
strong rulers. Their prestigious rulers led them through conquests such as how their ruler, Itzcoatl
did in 1427 (doc C). Itzcoatl was a ruler who vastly contributed to the advancement of the Aztecs by
leading them in the claiming of more land. Aztecs had their own capital, Tenochtitlan. They were
cultured and their population grew to 300,000 in 1519 (doc F). The Aztecs were sophisticated
because of their rapid population growth and their strong rulers.
Secondly, the Aztecs were a sophisticated civilization because of their complex religion and
religious rituals. The Aztecs treated warriors as a royal member, leading up to the sacrifice (doc
H). This made them advanced because they organized the sacrifice and elevated warriors status to
that of a living ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Aztecs had traditions such as rubbing their knees with ashes upon entering the house of a
woman who delivered a baby (doc Q). Rubbing ashes on their knees made them sophisticated
because the Aztec traditions were memorable. The Aztecs gave their children grinding stones or
small looms when they reached the age of three (doc O). They were innovative because giving a
child a grinding stone or small loom once they are three, is distinguishable from other civilizations.
The Aztecs were worldly because of their traditions such as rubbing ashes on their knees and giving

The Emergence Of Yellow Power
Despite Asian Americans major strides in ascending the racial hierarchy and even being labelled as
the model minority, the inherent nature of race in America prevented them from assimilating into
society as they were still subjected to discrimination, which is illustrated by personal accounts in
Karen Ishizuka s Serve the People and Amy Uyematsu s UCLA news article The Emergence of
Yellow Power in America. Among the many struggles Asian Americans faced, troubles with finding
their identities were perhaps the greatest. In an effort to conform to society, they completely
abandoned their own culture, traditions and values. Instead, according to Uyematsu, they aimed to
transform themselves into white men, which included rejecting their

The Venezuelan Revolution
This will be as much a tale about the Venezuelan people as it is about a returning immigrant who
knows his homeland largely from memories and media. Though my experiences have shaped my
outlook, my intention is to enter the country as a neutral and impartial writer, cognizant of daily
life, yet oblivious to the fiery political discourse which consumes too many discussions.
This project s purpose is to record a people who have lived through the promises and outcomes of
the Bolivarian Revolution, an idea that captured Venezuelas spirit and spread across 16 Latin
America nations as the Pink Tide. The poor and working class will be a fundamental component
of this story as I investigate the role the revolution has played in shaping the lives of this
perpetually overlooked group of people. Simultaneously, the nature of these issues will create a
portal into the world of Venezuelan heritage, traditions, and political and civic culture. What I write
will be the reality of the situation; the interpretation will be left up to the reader.

Human Activities And Its Effects On The Ocean Tides Essay
Estuaries
An estuary is a partially enclosed body of water formed where the freshwater from the land mixes
and meets with saltwater from the sea. As a result, the salinity and water level among various other
factors, is dependent on the ocean tides.
80% of the world s cities are situated near an estuary. For its abundance in resources are crucial
to to the longevity of the cities. It is recognized globally as one of the most threatened ecologies in
the world. Human activities such as agriculture, waste water processing, land clearance,
introduction of exotic species have rapidly increased the erosion rate of rivers, and have redirected
river flows both into and within estuaries. This in turn leads to its accelerated aging process.
Sediments from rivers upstream are rapidly surging into the estuary at a rate more than the tide
could erode away. Estuaries that exist without human activities collect a net sediment layer of 1
millimetre per year. This is directly juxtaposed to the poorly maintained estuaries disrupted by
human activities, gaining a staggering net sediment layer of 20 millimetres per year. Eventually this
causes many estuarine ecologies to decay and render them incapable of supporting life.
The estuarine ecology is a spawning pool for many coastal organisms. Both visiting and local
species raise their young within the estuarine habitat. The habitat supports an enormous range of
species, such as shellfish, crabs, marble worms, algae, mangroves, cockles and

Dury Family History
Drury is English. This family descended from John De Drury, the son of a Norman French
nobleman, who fought his way to power in England along with William the conqueror in 1066.
The Drury s held large estates in Suffolk, England for centuries. Their coat of arms from the 1200 s
has a Tau cross between two gold stars on a green band across the top of a silver shield. The family
in later years moved over to the United States to get a better life and like people would say
restart in the new life of America. Drury descendants lived in Massachusetts as early as 1651. I
researched our history only as far back as my great grandfather who is James Amos Drury, born
in the year of 1827 or near that time. There are pieces from the family history that are missing or
we could just not figure out but I tried my best to find all the information I could. James died
December 9, 1862 and is buried at National Cemetery, Plot 4 1862, Grave #6100, Section B,
Nashville, Tennessee. He enlisted January, 1862 in the Civil War from his home state of Indiana

Later that day I went home and reread a summary of the play Hamlet. Doing this allowed me to
have a better understanding of the movie. In my opinion, I believe that the movie and the play s
characters are unique. Throughout the movie, the main characters do not realize what was going on
around them. It was enjoyable to see the character s act confused to the scenes of Hamlet. My
overall reaction to the movie was that it was a very well done movie and very enjoyable. I would
defiantly recommend this film to anyone. One of my personal favorite scenes were when scientific
theories were shown. I am a huge fan of science and physics. Whenever
Rosencrantz hinted some scientific theories, it made the film very exciting. An example of this is
when the main character shows the effects of gravity by dropping an apple. This is a reference to
Isaac Newton s theories of gravity and how they started. In a college classroom, it is very
important to acknowledge plot twists and foreshadowing. The importance of this film in a college

One issue I would like to change today is breast feeding. I think it should be normalized. Yes,

Polymers And Their Monomer Units
In order to better understand this lab one must first understand about polymers and their monomer
units. Polymers are substances containing a large number of structural units joined by the same
type of linkage. The small molecules that make up these polymer chains are called monomers.
Polymers in the natural world have been around since the beginning of time and are found many
places in nature. Starch, cellulose, and rubber all possess polymeric properties. Cellulose and
starch are actually polymers of glucose which is a monosaccharide.
Man made polymers (also known as synthetic polymers) have been studied since 1832. Today, the
polymer industry has grown to be larger than the aluminum, copper and steel industries combined.
Some of these synthetic polymers are include foam rubber, disposable diapers, plastic cups,
garden hoses, nylon, plastic wrap, etc. Polymers already have a range of applications that far
exceeds that of any other class of material available to man. Current applications extend from
adhesives, coatings, foams, and packaging materials to textile and industrial fibers, composites,
electronic devices, biomedical devices, optical devices, and precursors for many newly developed
high tech ceramics.
Not every kind of plastic is the same. In 1988, the Society of the Plastics Industry (SPI)
established a classification system to help consumers and recyclers properly recycle and dispose of
each different type based on its chemical makeup. These identification codes

In History, we have always learned about heroes, leaders, and people who made
accomplishments that in a way have changed the world. We live for what others have done. Any

comes only from a person with leadership, huge spirit, and greatness. We have always looked

several thinkers, and this is where he planned his first Satyagraha. Influenced by a variety of

Success of Satyagraha

institutional religion. Tolstoy s emphasis on the necessity of an accord between moral principles
and daily life confirmed his own strivings for self improvement. (BBC.com, 2006) Gandhi started

The Philosophy Of Moral Philosophy
Moral Philosophy is rooted in four areas of standards, one of which is the central focus of
Hedonist thinking. The standard of moral philosophy that corresponds directly to Hedonism is
known as the Value Theory. The Value Theory establishes what is valuable in and of itself, what is
worth pursuing for its own sake 1. Goods that are valuable in their own right are intrinsic values, as
referred to in the previous sentence. Contrary to intrinsic values, instrumental goods have the ability
to lead to valuable things, but don t themselves hold significant value.
Hedonism, at its core, is centered around the pursuit of pleasure and the elimination of pain.
Consequently, when this balance obtained, Hedonist s will argue that an individual is leading a
tranquil life. Above all else, Hedonist philosophers John Stewart Mill and Epicurus, place pleasure
on a pedestal, in the way that pleasure stands alone when considering what is good in its own right.
Furthermore, they provide their insights on goes into the moral doctrine of Hedonism. The ultimate
good , according to the Hedonist school of thought, is always pleasure, however, this is not a united
stance by all philosophers 2. Opponents to Hedonist thinking, include Jean Kazez, Robert Nozick,
and Chris Heathwood. I argue that pleasure is not the only intrinsic good, rather it is one among
many other goods that hold intrinsic value. To assert my position, I will first discuss Epicurus and
Mill s explanation on what makes

organizational cultureof the business. Being able to manage this culture becomes a greater challenge
as a business becomes globalized. Collaboration amongst people of different backgrounds, cultures,
and beliefs can be a daunting charge, but has been shown to increase innovationproductivity.

Ideas and concepts communicated through various teams are progressive stepping stones towards
change, which can unleash the full potential of creativity (213). It is not a wild stream of ideas that
will help innovation move forward, but rather a very well focused concept. Creating a clear and
concise system allows people to truly focus on innovations that are aligned with the organization s
objectives and reduces the energy and time spent on incoherent ideas.
In order to produce sustainable innovation a company needs to create a culture that will bring forth
new ideas. Culture can be defined as a set of unwritten rules, shared beliefs, and mental models of
people (236). This culture needs to harness creativity and renew the company by focusing on things
that make it successful, conserving best practices that exist, and ensuring innovation investments
are being well used while allowing employees the freedom to innovate. In a discussion paper
written by Ceren Ozgen, Peter Nijkamp, and Jacques Poot, The Impact of Cultural Diversity on
Innovation: Evidence from Dutch Firm Level Data, they concluded that firms open to change
nurture creativeness and are more prone to innovation. Businesses that develop this type of culture
are more apt to implement new products and process innovations (17).

How Student Finances At Your School Essay
How to Streamline Student Finances at Your School
This article will explain how school administrators can use one system to manage students financial
aid data. The admissions office, registrar and accounting department can have access to the same
data simultaneously.
A school s accounting procedures and financial management systems can have a significant impact
on the effectiveness and accountability for all funds received by the U.S. Department of Education
as well as the ability of school staff to serve students as quickly and efficiently as possible. As a
school administrator, you probably already understand the complex intricacies of managing student
finances. However, you may not realize how crucial each step can be for streamlining student
finances at your school.
Synchronizing Operations and Responsibilities
When it comes to managing student finances and financial aid, the departments primarily
responsible for keeping things running smoothly are admissions, bursar and accounting.
Especially when you re dealing with financial aid benefits like the Federal Work Study Program,
the financial aid department usually authorizes awards as well as monitors student earnings.
However, the bursar s office usually processes payroll and manages the school s non federal share
of Federal Work Study programs.
Managing Student Financial Aid
Managing Federal Student Aid assistance is a school wide responsibility, which means that when
FSA program funds are provided, all offices at

The Detrimental Effects Of War In Hemingway s The Sun Also...
Hemingway s The Sun Also Rises presents a cast of characters experiencing their daily lives
after World War I. Not everyone in the novel was involved in the war, but those who served are
affected, often mentally and physically; the main character Jake Barnes received a permanent
injury which is mentioned repeatedly in the novel. Hemingway s work focuses on Jake and his
friends journey from Paris to the Festival of San FermГn. Aside from the planned adventure of
going to Spain, the characters move around frequently in taxis with little purpose. The Sun Also
Risesportrays motion which goes no place and is a novel of stasis and despair to represent the
damaging and lasting effects of war.
Taxis are used a significant amount in the novel. The characters use taxis to drift from cafe to cafe
and bar to bar. Although they are physically moving, they are not engaged in the actual activities
in their surroundings. The main characters are ambivalent in regards to destination, not even
caring to correct taxi drivers when dropped off at the wrong cafГ©. When Jake was taken to the
wrong place, he simply walked past the sad tables of the Rotonde to the Select because it was near
enough, anyway (Hemingway 37), showing no reaction toward the error. The detrimental effects of

Appellate Court Case Analysis
To render justice case by case is the primary task of our courts. Other courts and branches of

The justice that is done in individual cases helps and aids to bring order to the society in which

Globalisation and immigration a socio political imbalance.
In this essay we are going to look at globalisation and immigration with the aim to see which has
the biggest impact on individuals. We shall examine what globalisation is and what effects it has
on trade, government and people. We will also look at immigration, the push and pull factors and
what immigration means to individuals depending on which part of the world they are leaving

Globalisation refers to the apparently increasing exchange of goods, raw material, information,
people and money between parts of the world that have been geographically and culturally

The Disadvantages Of The Monasteries During The Medieval Era
Monasteries during the medieval era were fundamental at creating the very basics of infrastructure
like libraries, water systems, and even providing for communities; however, they often would utilize
these as political tools to gain power and strength within the greater community. The monasteries
were the drop off point for monarchs and the wealthy to leave their wealth after death, thus this
allowed for the religious orders to attain wealth and deposit it back towards their community
through infrastructure. They were able to do this by holding a monopoly over education and
allowing donations to be the cost of getting into heaven. Because the monasteries scribed most of
the books at the time they were able to control the education system. The people around the
monasteries were in need of education from the teachers within the monasteries. Because of this the
monasteries were able to control the educated people within society and the education system as a

Similarities Between Henry David Thoreau And Emerson
Transcendentalism was a very influential and important movement of its time. It allowed for free

main voices of the movement, and they wrote about pressing problems of the time. The literary
pieces, from Nature by Ralph Waldo Emersonand from Civil Disobedience as well as Slavery in
Massachusetts by Henry David Thoreau, exemplify the society that they lived in, its government s

Henry David Thoreau expresses his opinion on this topic, he does not agree with the power that
the government has over the people. In his Essay, Civil Disobedience , Thoreau states, That
government is best which governs not at all (380). This is saying how the most effective
government, is a government that does not rule over their citizens, a government that respects its
people, and doesn t make decisions without the consent of the people. The government at this time
had made some very questionable decisions around the time this was written, one of which was
that the US declared war on Mexico, which sparked anger between a large group of citizens. When
the government did this it showed how they don t ask the opinion of the citizens on important

A Day in the Mind of George W. Bush
I am writing to request that you vote for H.J.RES.114: Authorization for Use of Military Force
Against Iraq Resolution of 2002 (Hastert). This resolution will ensure American national security
and prioritizing the states overseas assets by deploying troops to rid Iraq of weapons of mass
destruction and to bring forth democracyto the Iraqi people. I wholeheartedly support your voting
record, and as the representative of the American people of the Nation s capitol, I believe your
vote is especially symbolic.
Many in the international community are against American military intervention on Iraqi soil. They
suggest that we either send in United Nations investigators to find out more about the weapons of
mass destruction or work with other countries to establish some sort of sanctions. But I know there
is no time to waste and I must immediately deploy three hundred thousand troops to be able to
declare Mission Accomplish as soon as possible and with limited American and Iraqi casualties.
Others say that we should do nothing on the basis that invading another country is destructive of
human life, costs substantial amounts of money, undermines our moral authority, could ruin our
international reputation, and violates the sovereignty of Iraq. We the United States and me myself,
George W. Bush, lead this so called Free World and have the duty to intervene and the right to

Quality Care Outcomes Increasing the quality of healthcare is a great way to reduce costs and
improve outcomes. When a healthcare organization focuses and monitors patient outcomes they are

exacerbations and provide the patient with a greater quality of life by overall symptom reduction.
The septic shock guidelines have the potential to improve morbidly and mortality outcomes for
pediatric patients. Initiating a falls risk protocol will help to improve outcomes and increase patient
safety. Decreasing the nosocomial rate by increasing hand hygiene compliance increases the quality
of care that is provided by the healthcare team. Decreasing the ICU rates of VAP increases positive
outcomes by reducing harm caused to patients by increased ventilator days and longer

by parental satisfaction. We spend a large portion of our time making sure that the parents are

Themes Of Penelope s Heroism
Themes of Penelope s Heroism in The Penelopaid
The Penelopaid is a novella which was written by author Margaret Atwood and published in
2005. It is a contemporary perspective narrated by Penelope, the wife of Odysseus and is an
extension of Homer s The Odyssey. In The Odyssey, the descriptions of the women and their lives
is written from a masculine perspective, and does not relay the true depth of the female characters
role, especially not Penelope. The Penelopaid however, tells the story from the perspective of
Penelope deep within the dark halls of Hades. The Penelopaid highlights the disparities in freedom
of movement, respect, thought and action between the lives of men and women in ancient Greece,
but Atwood seems to indicate in The Penelopaid that the real hero in this epic is Penelope and not
Odysseus. Penelope is a hero because she displays the main characteristics of a hero; she is noble
and virtuous, loyal, intelligent, selfless and brave. This analysis centers on the concept that through
her writing, Atwood may have, intentionally or inadvertently, allowed the reader to understand that
it is Penelope who is the hero of the Odyssey and not Odysseus. Actually he highlights the
characteristics of true women and then make her a real hero. Whatever he present its marvelous.

fraught with worry over the fate of her husband, his

Why Is Laerte A Noble
Nobility is a trait that many men seem to desire. It is not necessarily genetic nor can one
purchase it like other traits, such as clothing, but rather is earned demonstrated. What makes one
noble is not easily determined, despite being the desire of many individuals. Whether it is nobler,
more honorable, and more admirable to live on one s knees or to die on one s feet has been a
source of debate for centuries. In his tragic play Hamlet, William Shakespeare proves that it is
nobler for one to die for what he believes in than to live in inaction.
Laertes was noble because he died for his cause, avenging his father s death and defending his
father s honor, but he would not have been had he not sought revenge. Towards the end of the play,
Laertes returns from France upon hearing that his father died, but he misses the funeral because of

Starting a Small Business in Germany
Starting a small business in Germany
Abstract
Small and medium enterprises are the vital part of Germany s economy and so the Government
makes it easy for residents and non residents to start and run a small business in any part of
Germany. After considering whether a small business is perfect for you and your lifestyle, you
can decide from the five different forms of business ownership. The next step is to choose an
appropriate name for your business and then you can apply to the German Federal Ministry of
Economics and Technology for license and permits. Understand the taxation rates of Germany and
then look for means to brand your business using the right media. When these steps are
undertaken, you are all set to begin your small business. The success rate in Germany is fairly high
and this means, you have a fairly good chance of being successful.
Keywords: Small business, Germany, sole proprietorship, business license, tax, VAT, branding,
marketing, German Government, employment in Germany, Germany economy.

Choosing Between Online and In Person Teaching Positions
Filbert College/traditional teaching position. The first question that I find to be helpful is the one
about optional summer classes. The reply is that they often do not have enough enrolled students
to allow everyone to work in the summer time. I find this helpful since I would be a new educator,
and not have that much seniority. If by chance I did want to teach summer classes, I would likely

The second question in the traditional college application I find to be helpful is, the one about

Mental Deterioration In Macbeth
Macbeth s Mental Deterioration
Mental deterioration is when one s mind begins to over analyse, breakdown, and start to do things a
healthy brain would not normally do. Symptoms may include memory loss, apathy, anxiety,
inhibition, and mood changes. Power goes to Macbeth s head, causing him to lose his sense of
empathy, and eventually his mentality. In Act I, scene 2 Macbethis described as brave, relentless
and savage. At first glance, he appears to be a brave soldier. He is named Thane of Cawdor as a
reward for his bravery . After this, the witches predict wealth, estate, and that someday he will
become king. This information results in Macbeth having thoughts of murder (Act 1, scene 3 lns
130 142). After Duncan announced that his son, Malcolm, will be heir to the throne Macbeth
states that there is one more man in his way of becoming king. In the article When Power Goes
To Your Head, It May Shut Out Your Heart , a neuroscientist named Sukhvinder Obhi says that
power fundamentally changes how the brain operates. The mirror system neurons become active
when you or someone else squeezes a ball. Similar to when you pick up a cup of coffee, hit a
baseball, or fly a kite. Humans learn by observing and examining other humans. Mirror neurons
help humans understand how to imitate the learned trait. It somewhat places you in another person
s head. Feeling power causes a boost in the mirror system. When given power, people have a harder
time getting inside someone s head.

Democratization Of The Southeast Asia Region
1.Introduction
The Southeast Asia region, especially in the late 1980s and the late 2000s, was widely viewed as
a model of democratization in the developing world. Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore,
and the Philippines were all ranked as partly free or free by Freedom House. Countries such as
Cambodia and Myanmar had also taken great steps forward in terms of democracy during this
period. However, lately democracy in the region proved to be more fragile. Thailand, as a case
in point, has had a series of coups in 2006 and lately in 2014, jeopardizing the hard won
democracy of the country. Freedom House has in fact downgraded Thailand s ranking to partly

Two glaring differences between the two countries are probably the population size and religious
composition. However, Indonesia s bigger size and muslim majority religious composition should
play against Indonesia s favor in terms of democracy, and yet we have seen completely the opposite
with the two countries.
This paper would first present three possible theoretical reasons on why the two countries diverged
in their democratic path. A review of existing evidence to assess whether these reasons are valid
would then be explored. This paper would then argue that, among the many possible reasons, the
fundamental difference between the two countries was the reduced role of military in Indonesia due
to an internal military conflict and upfront bargains and the heightened role of military in Thailand
due to their deep monarch relations. The paper would then conclude and suggest next steps to be
taken to further investigate the issue.
2.Review of the Core Theoretical Debate
There are many differing viewpoints emerging on why Indonesia has been a success while
Thailand has been a laggard in democracy lately. This paper would only cover three of the possible
reasons why this was the case, backed by existing literatures.
First possibility: the case of constitution
First, it is argued that Indonesia was much more deliberate and thoughtful when it crafted its new
constitution.

Osmolarity Lab Report
To osmo regulate properly in a marine habitat, physiological mechanisms intended to conserve fresh
water and thus avoid dehydration are required. Marine mammals are well adapted to their hyper
osmotic environment. Their cells need to maintain both a water balance and an ion balance and life
depends on the maintenance of the transmembrane potential. The concentrationof potassium ions is
higher in cells than on the extracellular fluid (ECF) and the concentration of sodium ions is higher
in the extracellular fluid.
Osmolarity is describes the total solute concentration. A condition in which the total number of
solutes (i.e. permeable and impermeable) in a solution is the same or equal to the total solutes in
another solution. If two solutions of similar osmolarity are separated by a semi permeable
membrane, there is no tendency for the solvent to move from one compartment to another. Hypo
osmotic and hyper osmotic solutions have a lower and higher osmolalities, respectively. Isotonicity,
hypotonicity and hypertonicity describe the effects of osmolality across a semipermeable
membrane (Brooker, 2008). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of Kim Kardashian And Kayne West Essay
Most people have idolized a celebrity at one point in their life, yet how far are we willing to
allow that idolization to control our life? Idolization of celebrities help to play a sizable role in
the actions of the individuals that make up our society. Kim Kardashian is a well known celebrity
in today s society, who has an extensive amount of fans. This particular photo is from a spread that
Vogue did over Kim Kardashian and Kayne West in their quest for world domination and the
perfect weddingdress (Bowles 208). Vogue s cover over the multi million dollar couple offered a
glimpse into their extravagant lifestyle. Kim shares these bona fide moments of her life in order to
help preserve her an image as a genuine celebrity. This photograph of Kim Kardashian, shot for a
Vogue spread, represents an image of authenticity as an integral component in the creation of a
successful celebrity.
At first glance, the viewer s eyes are drawn to Kim standing in the middle of the room which
makes her the center of attention. Everyone else in the room is situated in way to form a semi
circle around Kim, as if to say they are lesser than her and she is the most important. The Vouge
shot image is a full shot of the whole room, yet still demands direct attention to be given to Kim in
the middle of the room. Furthermore, the full shot also helps to make Kim appear larger and more
paramount than the rest of the people in the room. This full shot is used in a way to capture each
person and

Commentary On Date Rape
I found this play difficult to read. The overall tone of the piece was tinged with sadness. As I
read, I would have to occasionally put it down to keep from crying. I m not exactly sure why this
piece affected me so emotionally, but I feel that an emotional response to artwork is pretty
significant. As I felt like crying, I was surprised by the section which talks about whiteness and a
prescriptive notion that people shouldn t be emotional. The lady in blue states ...yes let s go on and
be white...let s think our way out of feeling (shange 54). This was interesting commentary on the
way in which dominant culture undervalues the body and emotions. Certainly all people have the
capacity to be emotional and venerable, but these qualities are often... Show more content on

It was violent and in many ways another sort of bodily invasion. First the speaker must endure
the brutality and humiliation of rape, and then she must endure the pain and danger of this
medical procedure. This brought me back to Rich s Compulsory heterosexuality and her
complication of consent and choice. I would very firmly argue that abortion should be an option
for women, but I wonder how this procedure can be free from coercion within a violent
patriarchal rape culture. I also found that the mixture of experiences this play portrays is very
important. These women can share certain aspects of their experience, but they are far from the
same. I found the lady in blue s story especially impactful. She is a clear embodiment of the way
in which trauma and tragedy can make one feel that they must be cold and distant to survive and
avoid further brutality. She argues that nice is such a rip off and I can certainly see her point
(shange 53). The way in which that bitterness is used against each of the characters is also
beautifully written and incredibly

The home front during World War I covers the domestic, economic, social and political histories of
countries involved in that conflict. It covers the mobilization of armed forces and war supplies, but
does not include the military history. For the nonmilitary interactions among the major players see
Diplomatic history of World War I.
About 10 million combatants and seven million civilians died during the entire war, including
many weakened by years of malnutrition; they fell in the worldwide Spanish Flu pandemic, which
struck late in 1918, just as the war was ending.
The Allies had much more potential wealth that they could spend on the war. One estimate (using
1913 US dollars), is that the Allies spent $147 billion on the war and the ... Show more content on

Manpower had to be channeled into the front lines (all the powers except the United States and
Britain had large trained reserves designed for just that). Behind the lines labor power had to be
redirected away from less necessary activities that were luxuries during a total war. In particular,
vast munitions industries had to be built up to provide shells, guns, warships, uniforms,
airplanes, and a hundred other weapons, both old and new. Agriculture had to be mobilized as
well, to provide food for both civilians and for soldiers (many of whom had been farmers and
needed to be replaced by old men, boys and women) and for horses to move supplies.
Transportation in general was a challenge, especially when Britain and Germany each tried to
intercept merchant ships headed for the enemy. Finance was a special challenge. Germany
financed the Central Powers. Britain financed the Allies until 1916, when it ran out of money and
had to borrow from the United States. The US took over the financing of the Allies in 1917 with
loans that it insisted be repaid after the war. The victorious Allies looked to defeated Germany in
1919 to pay reparations that would cover some of their costs. Above all, it was essential to conduct
the mobilization in such a way that the short term confidence of the people was maintained, the
long term power of the political establishment was upheld, and the long term

Fukuzawa Yukichi s Adoption Of The Meiji Constitution
As Japan exited the Tokugawa period and moved into the Meiji era in the in the mid to late 19th, the
island nation experienced the immense changes associated with the movement of a state into
modernity. From the establishment of new institutions to the centralization of state authority, life in
Japan was forever altered, but perhaps nothing represented the shift more than the adoption of the
Meiji Constitution. This document, heavily based off of its Western counterpart, truly codifies
Japan s shift from a splintered, feudal society to a modern, imperial state. Given this importance, an
analysis of this document seems prudent; an analysis that looks at the climate surrounding the
adoption of the document, and the document s noted similarity... Show more content on

  • 3. Health And Safety At The Workplace Health and Safety in the Workplace The health and safety in the workplace for workers has created a continual concern in the United States since the country was discovered. Although, a healthy and safe work environment can be described as a work area free of health risks and absent unsafe conditions. Indeed, the definition encompasses additional legal, moral, ethical issues. Particularly, reporting safety issues rather than choosing to ignore them, refusing to fall under peer pressure or fear of retaliation, not accepting bribes and making the conscious decision to report violators of the rules. Initially, certain accidents and injuries within industries were accepted and considered a consequence of the job, eventually workers became less accepting of inadequate working conditions began demanding safer work environments. Therefore, numerous labor unions and organizations formed throughout the history of the United States intended to resolve and mediate issues between employees and employers, including the health and safety of the workers in the workplace. Nevertheless, in an effort to avoid confusion on the accountability of employee health and safety in the workplace the author of this paper has examined the separate entities of OSHA, employers and employees. • 4. The Human Memory Process Essay Memory is associated with the thinking again or recalling to the mind of something learned from past experience. Human memory is an important part of human existence, but it is rarely understandable. Memory is a mental time travel (Goldstein, 2011, p. 116). A memory can bring back the feeling about situation, event and experience that occurred long ago. Memoryis used to remember fact, acquired new knowledge and how to use new knowledge or skill in day to day life (Goldstein, 2011). Sternberg (1999), defined memory as remembered the past experience to use the information in the future. Researcher past finding stated that memory consolidation refers to the process of memory strengthen the resistance to interference during the encoding process (Walker, Brakefield, Hobson Stickgold, 2003). The finding then renewed it as the processes of strengthening a memory trace after the first information is acquired. This process categorizes into two categories which part of the process of encoding or of storage, or it as a memory process in its own right (Mastin, 2010). Researchers divided consolidation into two specific processes, synaptic consolidation that happens in the first few hours after learning or encoding and system consolidation where hippocampus dependent memories become independent of the hippocampus over a period of weeks to years. Research on neurological stated that the process of consolidation known as a phenomenon called long term potentiation. Synapse increased the power in order to increase the total number of signal transferred between two neurons. Potentiation defined as the process by which synchronous firing of neurons makes those neurons more inclined to fire together in the future. Long term potentiation is happens when the common group of neurons fires together so often and they become permanently sensitized to each other. Since new experiences gather together, the brain produces more connections and pathways, then re wire connection and rearranging its organization (Mastin, 2010) The third process of memory is ... • 10. Human Activities And Its Effects On The Ocean Tides Essay Estuaries An estuary is a partially enclosed body of water formed where the freshwater from the land mixes and meets with saltwater from the sea. As a result, the salinity and water level among various other factors, is dependent on the ocean tides. 80% of the world s cities are situated near an estuary. For its abundance in resources are crucial to to the longevity of the cities. It is recognized globally as one of the most threatened ecologies in the world. Human activities such as agriculture, waste water processing, land clearance, introduction of exotic species have rapidly increased the erosion rate of rivers, and have redirected river flows both into and within estuaries. This in turn leads to its accelerated aging process. Sediments from rivers upstream are rapidly surging into the estuary at a rate more than the tide could erode away. Estuaries that exist without human activities collect a net sediment layer of 1 millimetre per year. This is directly juxtaposed to the poorly maintained estuaries disrupted by human activities, gaining a staggering net sediment layer of 20 millimetres per year. Eventually this causes many estuarine ecologies to decay and render them incapable of supporting life. The estuarine ecology is a spawning pool for many coastal organisms. Both visiting and local species raise their young within the estuarine habitat. The standard of moral philosophy that corresponds directly to Hedonism is known as the Value Theory. The Value Theory establishes what is valuable in and of itself, what is worth pursuing for its own sake 1. Goods that are valuable in their own right are intrinsic values, as referred to in the previous sentence. Contrary to intrinsic values, instrumental goods have the ability to lead to valuable things, but don t themselves hold significant value. Not everyone in the novel was involved in the war, but those who served are affected, often mentally and physically; the main character Jake Barnes received a permanent injury which is mentioned repeatedly in the novel. Hemingway s work focuses on Jake and his friends journey from Paris to the Festival of San FermГn. Aside from the planned adventure of going to Spain, the characters move around frequently in taxis with little purpose. The Sun Also Risesportrays motion which goes no place and is a novel of stasis and despair to represent the damaging and lasting effects of war. Taxis are used a significant amount in the novel. The characters use taxis to drift from cafe to cafe and bar to bar. Although they are physically moving, they are not engaged in the actual activities in their surroundings. The main characters are ambivalent in regards to destination, not even caring to correct taxi drivers when dropped off at the wrong cafГ©. When Jake was taken to the wrong place, he simply walked past the sad tables of the Rotonde to the Select because it was near enough, anyway (Hemingway 37), showing no reaction toward the error. The Disadvantages Of The Monasteries During The Medieval Era Monasteries during the medieval era were fundamental at creating the very basics of infrastructure like libraries, water systems, and even providing for communities; however, they often would utilize these as political tools to gain power and strength within the greater community. The monasteries were the drop off point for monarchs and the wealthy to leave their wealth after death, thus this allowed for the religious orders to attain wealth and deposit it back towards their community through infrastructure. They were able to do this by holding a monopoly over education and allowing donations to be the cost of getting into heaven. • 37. Themes Of Penelope s Heroism Themes of Penelope s Heroism in The Penelopaid The Penelopaid is a novella which was written by author Margaret Atwood and published in 2005. It is a contemporary perspective narrated by Penelope, the wife of Odysseus and is an extension of Homer s The Odyssey. In The Odyssey, the descriptions of the women and their lives is written from a masculine perspective, and does not relay the true depth of the female characters role, especially not Penelope. The Penelopaid however, tells the story from the perspective of Penelope deep within the dark halls of Hades. The Penelopaid highlights the disparities in freedom of movement, respect, thought and action between the lives of men and women in ancient Greece, but Atwood seems to indicate in The Penelopaid that the real hero in this epic is Penelope and not Odysseus. Penelope is a hero because she displays the main characteristics of a hero; she is noble and virtuous, loyal, intelligent, selfless and brave. This analysis centers on the concept that through her writing, Atwood may have, intentionally or inadvertently, allowed the reader to understand that it is Penelope who is the hero of the Odyssey and not Odysseus. Actually he highlights the characteristics of true women and then make her a real hero. Whatever he present its marvelous. What makes one noble is not easily determined, despite being the desire of many individuals. Whether it is nobler, more honorable, and more admirable to live on one s knees or to die on one s feet has been a source of debate for centuries. In his tragic play Hamlet, William Shakespeare proves that it is nobler for one to die for what he believes in than to live in inaction. Laertes was noble because he died for his cause, avenging his father s death and defending his father s honor, but he would not have been had he not sought revenge.
