Mental deterioration is when one s mind begins to over analyse, breakdown, and start to do things a

The Southeast Asia region, especially in the late 1980s and the late 2000s, was widely viewed as
a model of democratization in the developing world. Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore,
and the Philippines were all ranked as partly free or free by Freedom House. Countries such as
Cambodia and Myanmar had also taken great steps forward in terms of democracy during this

Two glaring differences between the two countries are probably the population size and religious
composition. However, Indonesia s bigger size and muslim majority religious composition should
play against Indonesia s favor in terms of democracy, and yet we have seen completely the opposite
with the two countries.
This paper would first present three possible theoretical reasons on why the two countries diverged
in their democratic path. A review of existing evidence to assess whether these reasons are valid
would then be explored. This paper would then argue that, among the many possible reasons, the
fundamental difference between the two countries was the reduced role of military in Indonesia due
to an internal military conflict and upfront bargains and the heightened role of military in Thailand
due to their deep monarch relations. The paper would then conclude and suggest next steps to be
taken to further investigate the issue.
2.Review of the Core Theoretical Debate
There are many differing viewpoints emerging on why Indonesia has been a success while
Thailand has been a laggard in democracy lately. This paper would only cover three of the possible
reasons why this was the case, backed by existing literatures.

First, it is argued that Indonesia was much more deliberate and thoughtful when it crafted its new

attempts to escape had only increased his sentence. When he was released from his prison, he
reentered society and was imminently met with rude, unwelcoming gestures from the citizens of

I found this play difficult to read. The overall tone of the piece was tinged with sadness. As I
read, I would have to occasionally put it down to keep from crying. I m not exactly sure why this
piece affected me so emotionally, but I feel that an emotional response to artwork is pretty
