Wilbur Lang Schramm, known as the 'father of communication studies', was born on August 5, 1907, in Marietta, Ohio. He developed a linear model of communication that illustrates the one-way transfer of messages from a source to a receiver, highlighting its strengths and weaknesses. The model has been fundamental in organizing and introducing communication studies in the U.S. since 1954.
