Homeless Vehicle Project With David Lurie
Since the wealthy class decided whether or not what was considered fine art, many contemporary
artists began to rebel against these practices and began creating work that not only included lower
class members of society but also addressed many of the issues they were facing in their societies
such as homelessness. During the mid 1980s, many contemporary artists began taking their works
out of the museums and galleries and started presenting them in the city streets, povertystricken
ghettos and urban communities. By doing this they were able to reach a broader audience outside
of high class society. Artists such as, Krzysztof Wodiczko, was one of the first artist to take his
work out of the museums and into the streets.
Wodiczko began making art work pertaining to many important social issues. His work titled
Homeless Vehicle Project with David Lurie (Kalb Pg.106) tackles the issue of homelessness in
New York. Wodiczko vehicles were begun and developed in the conjunction with the homeless
people who were to use to them. . This concept was based on the design of an, enlarged shopping
car that provided the users with storage space, shelter and mobility. (106) These vehicles were to
serve a purpose much greater than art, it was to address the issue of homelessness in community.
As stated previously the piece provided shelter due to the circumstances of them not having a place
to live or not having a steady means of income, storage space to put their belongings in for

Installing Bamboo Flooring Essay
Usually there are no instructions in the box on installing bamboo flooring, but it is done just like
ordinary hardwood flooring. The proper floor preparation is essential before any installation. It is
important that all sub flooring be flat with a tolerance of no more than one half inch over a twelve
foot span. If the sub floor is made of wood, staples are better to use than flooringcleats. Staples
hold better and do not squeak when stepped upon. If you decide to use a glue down installation,
use the adhesive that is specified by the manufacturer. Be sure to avoid water based adhesives at all
costs.

If you care about the environment, you should be installing bamboo flooring in every room in your
house. Bamboo is a renewable ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The oil urethane wood finish supplies a highly durable coating that allows the beauty of the
wood to shine through while minimizing discoloration due to age. A lambs wool applicator is
required for even coating, and one gallon can cover over 600 square feet. The water based
urethane finish can be used only on previously sealed surfaces. The crystal clear coating shows
off the natural wood beauty, and it dries very fast. No mixing is required, and it is very economical
to use. One gallon will cover up to 1000 square feet.
5
Polyurethane hardwood floor finishes are blends of synthetic resins that protect the surface of
wood. They are moisture resistant and available in high gloss and semi gloss as well as satin and
matte. The finish is recommended for kitchens where splashing water may be a problem. The
polyurethane finish is the most common and it turns a lovely shade of amber as it ages. Do not
shake the polyurethane container because air bubbles will appear in the final finish. Instead, stir
the container to avoid any mishaps. The coating should be applied with a brush or roller going with
the grain to avoid marking the finish.
6
The types of hardwood floor finishes determine the kind of maintenance you must use to keep the
floor new looking. Most of the time all you have to do is sweep the floor with a broom or dust
mop, and clean up spills as soon as they

Hamlet Act 1 Scene 2
In act 1 scene 2 of Hamlet the character Hamlet speaks his first soliloquy which reveals his
innermost thoughts and feelings to the audience. In this soliloquy Hamlet s unstable state of mind
is evident as well as his feelings of despair about his father s death and his disgust of his mother s
remarriage to his uncle Claudius. Hamlets hatred for his uncle is shown through harsh comparisons
between Claudius and his late father. This soliloquy takes place after Claudius has begun his reign
as king and has addressed the court for the first time but before Hamlet hears about the apparition
that Horatio and the guards have seen. Hamlet s character and personality are shown in this
soliloquy through the use of classical imagery, diction and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the soliloquy it is shown that while Hamlet does not like his uncle he blames his mother for
all that has happened especially her weak disposition that caused her to marry Claudius as seen
in the line frailty thy name is women . In the line Hamlet generalizes all women showing his
instability as he does not understand the difference between his mother s actions and all women.
His anger towards his mother is also shown in his comparison of her being like Niobe all tears
because like the mythological figure Niobe she also mourned however Niobe was turned to stone
and kept weaping which suggests that he considers her to be hypocritical because while she cried
and mourned she remarried only a month after her husband died. This idea is also shown in the
line a beast would have mourned longer showing that because of her betrayal he considers her to
be an unfeeling animal. Hamlet s anger builds throughout the soliloquy until he comes to the
realization that he cannot reveal his true thoughts to anyone but break my heart for I must hold my
tongue. Because of the anger Hamlet feels at his mother s remarriage he compares his uncle to his
father the late king Hamlet. His comparisons are quite harsh such as Hyperion to a satyr this
classical allusion shows his prejudice against his uncle by considering his father a god and his
uncle to be half goat. The comparison as well as others seen in

The Progressive Era Of Social And Political Reform
During the time from the 1890s to the 1920s a period of social and political reform took place in
the United States known as the Progressive Era. The era saw the expansion of political and
economic freedom through the reinvigoration of the moment for woman suffrage, the use of
political power to expand workers rights and efforts to improve democratic government by
weakening the power of the city bosses and giving ordinary citizens more influence on legislation.
The progressive reformers from this time gained a majority of their support from the education
middle class of urban areas. Another term used to describe these reformers is Muckrakers.
Muckrakers were investigative journalists who tried to make the public aware of the problems in
society that needed fixing. They stemmed from yellow journalism, which was a style of reporting
that used exaggeration to attract readers. In a speech made by U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt in
1906, the term muckraker was used in a derogatory way, he borrowed the word from John Bunyan
s Puritan story Pilgrim s Progress, which spoke of a man with a Muck rake in his hand who raked
filth rather than look up to nobler things. However, it eventually came to take on a positive
overtone due to the serious social issues of the progressive era the muckrakers had underlined. The
muckrakers during the progressive era inspired Americans to take action and hence are responsible
for the social change that took place at that time.

U.s. War On Terrorism Essay
The United States vision of and for the world changed dramatically, and perhaps permanently, on
September 11, 2001. The aftermath frightened and impacted the nation s reputation, and in order
to measure the nature and extent of our policies, it is important to understand our efforts after this
national attack on US soil. Many interesting documents released earlier that year provides a
detailed perspective of America s economic policies and actions towards the War on Terror. The
U.S. came out with a massive debt that has impacted the nation in several ways, but this leads to a
basic question with a complex answer: How did the U.S. War on Terrorismimpact the American
Debt Crisis? After researching further into the 9/11 attacks, clearly most of the money put into
the war was wasted or misspent. Even though it was crucial going after the terrorists, especially
since they had taken many lives and were capable to repeating their attack caused fear throughout
the nation. It is important to signal out that the U.S. was attacked from a terrorist organization
that had their focus on the U.S. for a long time. The impact that this served after 9/11 plays a clear
role in defining the results of how these economic policies were taken into action. After looking
over this tragic event in the U.S. history, there should have been a very high consideration towards
how the money was going to be used in an effort to defeat terrorismbefore this event occurred. The
top priority for the U.S. has

Incorporating Technology Into Grade Level Performance...
In, an attempt to improve the integration of available technology, educators and policymakers are
reevaluating ways to incorporate technology into the grade level performance standards without
separating the two educational standards (Collins Halverson, 2009). Presently, students and
teachers have the ability to transmit information through third and fourth generation technological
resources; yet, few take advantage of the endless educational possibilities (Francis Mishra, 2008;
Marino, Sameshima, Beecher, 2009; Koehler Mishra, 2006; Sharples, 2007; Su Luan Teo, 2009).
According to Francis and Mishra (2008), classroom teachers will need to be knowledgeable of the

In spite of teachers negative attitudes towards changes and/ or technophobia, as the world changes,
so must the classrooms, teachers, and delivery of knowledge to students (Hall, 2010; Su Luan Teo
2009; Ursavas Karal, 2009; Prensky, 2008). Not addressing teachers negative attitudes will
invariably lead to continued challenges with incorporating classroom technology, especially with
those teachers who focus lessons on memorization or note taking. Typically, in many American
classrooms, teachers can be seen using the same traditional methodologies used a century or more
ago with change resistant teachers instructing students seated in straight rows within the classroom
(Sharples, 2007; Overbay, Patterson, Grable, 2009; Su Luan Teo 2009). On the other hand,
researchers suggested that teaching in that manner should also include active learning where
students take part in the instructional process (Strasser, 2006; Ryu Parsons, 2009). Clearly, based
on research there is an effectual demand for teachers to focus lessons on learning ways to learn or
research, by using technology to promote active learning and build students technological skills
(Ara, 2009; Prensky, 2008; Ryu Parsons, 2009). This research will add to the body of literature of
prior theoretical studies of classroom technology usage and Technology attitude scale (TAS)

Immunotherapy Essay
Immunotherapy
Immunotherapy has been on an upward trend in cancer treatments recently. By activating the body
s own immune system, immunotherapy puts to use the body s own powerful anticancer
mechanisms to achieve a response against the cancerous cells. Most of the current cancer treatments
are non specific immunotherapy, meaning that they boost the immune system in a more general way
and act by blocking antibodies and T cell receptors. On the other hand, specific immunotherapy
targets tumor antigens on cancer cells. One type of specific immunotherapy is the cancer treatment
vaccine. Cancer treatment vaccines are slightly different from preventative vaccines since they
attempt to get the immune system to attack against the already existing cancer cells in the body.
Some cancer vaccines consist of cancer cells, parts of cells, or pure antigens. However, other ...

The ready vaccine is injected into the patient. Vaccines are often combined with other substances or
cells, known as adjuvants, that help boost the immune response even further. They also cause the
immune system to attack cells with one or more specific antigens. Because the immune system has
special cells for memory, it s hoped that the vaccine might continue to work long after it s given.
Major Histocompatibility Complex, Antigens, and T cells
Humans and other vertebrates have adaptive, or specific immunity, which involves the use of T
cells and B cells, classes of white blood cells known as lymphocytes. An antigen is any substance
that causes a response from the T cells or B cells; the binding site of the antigen is called an
epitope. While helper T cells secrete cytokines to promote response, cytotoxic T cells employ toxic
proteins to attack and kill cells infected by virus or pathogens from within the cell itself.

Irrationality And Rationality
Explore how Arthur Miller portrays the conflict between emotionality and rationality through Eddie
s struggle between right and wrong in A View from the Bridge
A View from the Bridge is the story of a man, Eddie Carbone, who falls in love with his niece. He
has a hard choice to make between possible happiness through this forbidden, unrequited love and
propriety with his wife. As a retelling, this play s plot is not what makes it so notoriously well
praised. Rather, it is the depth Arthur Miller brings to the protagonist s character through his
struggle between his emotions and his logic. This is an analysis of how the playwright achieved
this complex portrayal.
Miller starts by introducing Normal Eddie, a version of the protagonist not ... Show more content on

In denying his emotionality, an essential part of himself, he is driven to irrationality. A clear
example of this self suppression is seen towards the end of the text, wherein his wife, Beatrice, tells
Eddie that the truth is not as bad as blood [...] Eddie, crying out in agony: That s what you think of
me that I would have such a thought? His fists clench his head as though it will burst. In this
situation, Beatrice is trying to convince Eddie not to fight one of the illegal immigrants having
denounced him for calling the Immigration Bureau. The truth is an allusion to the root of this
tumultuous situation his feelings for his niece. The atmosphere is foreboding, punctuated by the
metonymy of blood for argument or fight . This line is dark, pessimistically foreshadowing the
calamitous end to the play. The ameliorative comparison between this blood and Eddie s truth is
meant as assurance that his love, whilst incestuous, is not nearly as horrendous as it could be,
and as he believes it to be. However, this only agitates Eddie more, heightening the perilous
atmosphere of the scene. This is seen through the stage direction crying out in agony . The word
agony is peculiar, as the expected emotion here would be anger, for the protagonist had been
ready to fight moments ago. This is shocking to the reader, since this is the first real
confirmation of Eddie s absolute erraticism. Moreover, this struggle is emphasised by the word
crying , as it shows his anguish is heightened to the point of screaming. And yet, his rhetorical
question reveals only disgust at Beatrice s perceptions. This provides an ironic, queerly comical
contrast. This contrast is akin to gallows humour, in that it makes light of a depressing scene
Eddie is so entrenched in his desperate need to regain rationality after his crucial betrayal that he
still clings to his lies. Hyperbolically, he denies even having had

Lord Of The Flies Quote Analysis
When you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self sacrifice you may know
that your society is doomed (Rand). This was stated by Russian American novelist Ayn Rand; the
extract relates to the novel William Golding wrote called Lord of the Flies. Golding wrote about a
group of schoolboys trapped on an island from a plane crash. The boys had to figure out how to
survive without grownups. Trying to survive was difficult because they had to have common sense
and order. They lose those traits throughout the book which resulted in selfishness and corrupt
behaviors.
Common sense is something we can all treasure as humans, though the boys in Golding s novel
didn t have much. One of the characters, Ralph, showed common sense through wanting to make
shelters, find food, and get saved. There s another thing. We can help them find us. If a ship comes
near the island they may notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make
a fire (Golding 38). Ralph wanted to build that fire to let someone know where they were and that
showed common sense. On the other hand another character, Jack, showed he had a lack of
discernment towards what work should be done first: We want meat. Well, we haven t got any yet.
And we want shelters. Besides, the rest of your hunters came back hours ago. They ve been
swimming (51). He also let the others see doing whatever you want is more fun by not doing
anything but hunting; he even went as far as letting the fire

Symptoms And Treatment Of Multiple Sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis, or MS, is a very common disease that affects more women than men; at a
minimum two to three times relevant in women (Harbo, 2013). Sadly, according to the National
Multiple Sclerosis Society, since 1975, there has not been a successful national study of the
prevalence in the United States. In order to improve reporting MS, the National MS Society
established a method of testing administrative databases. In turn, the Society reported that MS
organization have estimated 2.3 million individuals are living with MS worldwide. Is it the
most common disabling neurological disease affecting young adults (Courtney, 2009). The
greatest number of people who are identified with the disease are between the ages of 20 to 50,
even though it can still be found in younger children and notable older adults. I personally find
this statistic to be alarming. I am at risk for developing this disease since I am in my mid 20s. It
is important that I understand and am aware of the disease because the actual cause of the disease
in still a mystery. The environment and our genes could play a role in contributing to the disease.
As discussed in class, from the Human Anatomy and Physiology 9th edition by Marieb and Hoehn

The Challenges Of Domestic Violence Essay
MILLERSBURG Every other year, the gardens of Holmes County become inspirations for novice

The Holmes County Friends and Neighbors of OneEighty Supporting Victims of Domestic Violence
will continue its effort to provide crisis intervention, treatment, counseling, prevention and support
for those affected by domestic violence, when it raises money by presenting its biennial Garden

The gardens selected this year are located in south central Holmes County, at the homes of Ruston
Baker and Claudia Rozuk, 1769 County Road 150, Millersburg and 1665 County Road 150,
Millersburg; David and Leona Hershberger, 2143 Township Road 112, Millersburg; and Gayle
Patterson, 2527 State Route 83 Millersburg. The tour also will feature a stop at the Holmes County
Open Air Art Museum at The Inn at Honey Run, 6920 County Road 203 Millersburg.
Money generated by the tour helps to support operations in Wayne and Holmes counties. A full time
advocate staffs an office in Millersburg, where counselors also meet with men, woman and children.
It s the seventh year for the biennial garden tour in Holmes County, according to event chairwoman
Eleanor Runyon, noting, after so many years one or two gardeners volunteer to be on the garden
tour, which makes organizing the tour easier.
The amount of work the gardeners do to get ready is staggering, but well worth the effort

Sidney Bechet Impact On Jazz
From Bechet to Marsalis: The Evolution of Jazz
Jazz: An overview
In the 20th century, Jazz was one of the most expressive forms of music around, as it was just
starting out and was born in a time where victims of oppression were beginning to stand up and
rebel. In comparison to classical music, Jazz is a very new genre of music. It s evolution is vividly
evident in it s contrast of instrumentation, dynamics, and the introduction of modal jazz which I
will discuss later on in this essay. One of the first jazz virtuoso s that appeared and had a significant
influence on jazz, was Sidney Bechet, on clarinet and saxophone.

With this popularity, jazz musicians decided to form larger ensembles, known as Big Bands .
These big bands would typically consist of trumpets, saxophones, trombones, drums, bass (or
double bass), piano and would usually have a soloist. These bands were like the symphony
orchestras of jazz. A few of the most popular big bands would ve been led by Chick Webb, Paul
Whiteman, Glenn Miller, Ted Lewis and an all female big band named Helen Lewis and her all
girl jazz syncopaters . The popularity of these groups was astounding. They were selling out
venues everywhere and going on regular tours across America. These bands would have some
impeccably skilled jazz musicians as soloist s also such as Bix Beiderbecke and Dizzy Gillespie.
One big band that stood out from this era would be Benny Goodman s big band. Their popularity
was almost unbelievable. Benny himself was widely known as the King of Swing and had
some of the most dedicated fans at the time. Radio was the most important aspect for Benny as
his recordings would be heard by a wider audience. This ultimately led to the crazy fan base he
gained. For example, in their performance at the Stanley Theatre, it was reported that most of the
audience were dancing down the aisles to the music. People had never experienced music like this
before. It was almost like an explosion of life and freedom, caused by a wave of new and exciting

The Effects of Advancements in Lighting on The Theatre...
Without light, the theatre cannot exist, that much is certain. As actors, as audience members, as
technical visionaries, we are only as powerful as the light we are given. The extent to which we
depend upon light in performance has changed dramatically throughout history, however, as light
technology developed and expanded. In the history of performance, the artistic community is
constantly victim to the limits of lightingtechnology, and exponentially altered by breakthroughs.

Having only heightened text and elaborate spectacles to guide them, much of the subtlety,
specificity, and emotion must have been lost in translation.Additionally, indoor performances,
primarily requested by courts and nobility, specifically used candles and torches as sources of
illumination. Candles were placed at the front of the stage, between the wings leading to the stage,
and above both the stage in order to frame the players. Chandeliers were also hung above those in
attendance, to create a sense of audience. This marks both the first appearances of footlights in the
theatre and, though basic, the beginning of a formulaic structure for lighting a performance space.
Issues prevailed, however there were still no successful methods for specific lighting, unless an
actor held the light themselves to illuminate their face, nor were colored lights or gobo devices
available. Though lighting was making its way into the theatrical world, it was purely technical, not
called upon to be inventive, create illusions or accomplish tasks at this point in time. Limited design
innovations were mostly rooted in the scarce advancements made with regard to lighting
technology. Where this began to change and evolve was in the early 1800s, when the gaslight was
introduced into the performing arts sphere. The new technology was brought into the theatre
industry by William Murdoch and later F.A. Winsor, who used the lights to replace candles in
framing the stage

The Oompa Loompas In Charlie And The Chocolate Factory
Roald Dahl was a British author, who wrote short stories, poems and screenplays. His books
have sold more than 250 million copies worldwide (www.roalddahl.com). His most famous book
was the first Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book which was published in 1964. This book
got a lot of negative feedback not based on the storyline, but based on certain characters in the
book. This book focuses on golden tickets and there are only five, one of them being found by a
character named Charlie, who happens to be poor. The owner, Willy Wonka
leads the five winning
children on a delightful and frequently dangerous journey of his factory and only one child
wins the big prize which in this case, is his factory. However, within the factory there are
workers called Oompa Loopmas, who are depicted as black Pygmy people from Africa (Dahl 73).
In the film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, in 1971, by Mel Stuart the Oompa Loompas
are shown as dwarfs with orange skin. Last but not least in the 2005 film Charlie and the Chocolate
Factory, Tim Burton depicts the Oompa Loompas as brown skin people. Throughout all three
different versions of the one story the depictions of the Oompa Loompas skin color changes, but
the power dynamics between Willy Wonka, owner, and the Oompa Loompa stays the same and that
confirms that they are slave workers especially within the 1964 book.

neon Essay
Did you know that neon is a Greek word that means quot;new quot;? Neon is the element that I
am most interested in. I chose to do neon because I found out what many uses it has in our daily
life. Neon is the element that allows you to watch TV. Without neon we would never see the cool
flashing signs outside of diners and bars. In my essay I am going to tell you about neon and its
many uses.
First, I m going to tell you about the history and uses of neon. Neon was discovered by Sir William
Ramsay, a Scottish chemist, and Morris M. Travers, an English chemist, shortly after their
discovery of the element krypton in 1898. Neon is one of the most amusing elements used today.

Neon is found in the atmosphere. Neon is 0.002% of the atmosphere. Also, stars produce neon
during the later stages of nuclear fusion.
All there is to talk about neon now is about how it integrates into our life. To show you the
integration in our society I will demonstrate a situation in which neon comes into play. Imagine
walking around in Las Vegas with your friends looking to have a good time before your business
meeting the next day. You look up and see giant signs that flash and move around advertising
casinos and restaurants. Those signs are discharge tubes holding the active ingredients of our
friend neon and his buddy mercury. You decide to walk into the casino with the biggest, coolest
sign that says quot;MGM quot;. You walk into the casino wondering what to do first, so you
walk over to the nearest craps table. You play craps for a couple hours and decide to cash in and go
out to eat with all the money you won. You walk into a sports bar to get a drink and you notice a
TV with the Lakers game on. You look up at the TV and notice they are losing 84 to 36. The
television has a tube in it that holds neon to project things onto the glass screen you see, without
neon you wouldn t be able to watch any of your favorite shows. When you are finished eating

Parviz Amin Quotes
Imagine that one day you had to leave behind everything you ve ever know. You had to leave
your family and your country because it was slowly falling apart and you had no idea if you
would ever get to see it again. How would you react? In the novel Septembers of Shiraz this is
exactly the situation Parviz Amin is dealing with. His homeland, the country of Iranhas been
overtaken by a group called the Revolutionary guards. This group hates anyone and everyone
who supported or was related to the Shah which was the previous ruler of the country. It just so
happens Parviz s father meets that description and eventually is arrested by the same group for
being suspected of being a zionist spy. Parviz has to deal with all of this all the way on the opposite
side of the globe in New York Cityalong with his own issues of just starting out his college life.
His negative attitude about this whole situation definitely isn t helping either. Parviz s
pessimistic attitude and lack of beliefs causes a strongly negative affect on his situation and his
daily life. Parviz Amin is a young adult starting college in New York City which is almost on the
opposite side of the world from his homeland of Iran. He is alone and staying with a strict Jewish
family called the Mendelsons who are very kind and understanding towards him yet this doesn t
stop their difference in viewpoints from interfering with their relationship. It is shown clearly in
the novel that Parviz isn t very interested in religion which ends up preventing him from really
interacting with The mendelson s in the way they would like to. This is shown here when they
ask Parviz to join them in celebrating a Jewish holiday, He tells himself that no matter how
lonely he gets, he will not go so far as to persecute himself by sitting at their table, celebrating a
day that to him is no different than any other day (Sofer, 42). Parviz shows many signs of
loneliness throughout the book just like in this part but the fact he doesn t realize is that he is
the cause of all his loneliness. If he had overlooked the fact it wasn t his religion and bonded with
the family anyway he would not be lonely. Not only does he almost force himself to be lonely he
also feels that his

Although various thinkers and artists from the Romantic era utilized unique approaches within the

the Romantics. The artistic, literary, musical and intellectual movement known as the Romantic era
began in 18th century Europe and ended in the mid 19th century (Day, 1996). Romantic art
uniquely places a large emphasis on emotional content, the individual, and in celebrating the past
and the ways in which one interacts with the nature that surrounds them (Day, 1996). The emotions

The French were also more aligned to the Greeks in terms of religion, since both held Christian
values, while the Turks were largely Muslim, and at the time seen as the outsiders within the

as they are in anguish since they re surrounded by the Ottomans whom are holding weapons, and
whom are presumably capturing these individuals for slavery. Some of the figures are wounded,
some appear to be dying, but the survivors will presumably be taken away. There are various
individual moments of suffering being illustrated, each of which holds a unique conception of the
current state, all of whom are emotionally dealing with the circumstances as best as they can. This
piece has no hero, and it does not display any relative form of optimism. Instead it illustrates the
fact that suffering is prevalent, and each individual copes with such suffering in a unique manner.
The point of unification lies in the mere fact that the Greeks are overpowered by the Turks. This is
a painting about human suffering, and individualism, and it emphasizes the importance of color,

Impact Of Depreciation On The Construction Industry Essay
As part of the business and finance module, I am require to write a report, discussing how
depreciation impacts a firm in the construction industry. Within this report I will discuss different
areas of depreciation such as what is depreciation? , causes of depreciation, its importance in the
construction industry, how depreciationaffects profits and how depreciation can be measured. I
will also discuss the different methods for calculating depreciation and the effects on accounts if
depreciation is not accounted for. In this report, I will be giving examples of fixed assets that are
common to the construction industry and also give examples of how depreciation is calculated.
What is Depreciation?
Depreciation is the reduction in the value of certain fixed assets. It is a periodic reduction of
fixed assets, usually done every year. Fixed assets are assets that add value to the company.
Examples of fixed assets that can be depreciated are vehicles, buildings, machinery, equipment
and fixture and fittings. The only fixed asset that is not depreciated is land, because it is not
worn out overtime, unless natural resources are being exploited. When a company buys a new
fixed asset it doesn t account for the full cost of it as one single large expense, instead the expense
is spread over the life time of the asset. This is done by depreciating the asset. For example a
company purchases a CNC router for €50,000 and will be used for five year. If they pay the full
amount in the

authors discuss the current political climate surrounding immigration, as well as the false

authors attempt to break down the false narrative surrounding illegal immigrationby demonstrating
that the overwhelming majority of undocumented immigrants are law abiding, hardworking
migrants fleeing strife in hope of new opportunity. Since the beginning of the Trump administration,

The blessings listed in The Beatitudes exemplify the importance and the moral obligation
Americans have towards immigrants fleeing injustice. For example, Jesus proclaims, Blessed are
the merciful, for they will receive mercy (Mathew 5:7). The countless individuals who are fleeing
arms traffickers, gang violence and poverty, most of which are women and children, must be met
with mercy (Yee, Davis, Patel 2017). For many migrants, the United States is the deciding factor in
their chance at receiving mercy. The United States must approach immigration with mercy,
compassion, and empathy, not with antagonism and hostility. The authors of the article give a
merciful description of immigrants as, families and workers, taking the jobs nobody else wants,
staying out of trouble, here only to earn their way to better, safer lives for themselves and their
children (Yee, Davis, Patel 2017). This visualization of immigration is the more humane approach
the United States government must take. On the contrary, the current White House administration
perceives undocumented immigrants as pariahs, criminals who menace American neighborhoods,
take American jobs, sap American resources and exploit American generosity (Yee, Davis, Patel

Man s Search For Meaning by Viktor E. Frankl Essay
Life was consumed by constant orders, labor, malnutrition, disease, and murder in the concentration
camps. Yet somehow the human psyche in many individuals was able to endure throughout these
imprisonments. Men and women were almost completely dehumanized during this genocide, but
their psyche survived it. People had to find little things to keep themselves content and to nurture
their psyche. Humor was another of the souls weapons in the fight for self preservation (63).
Humor allows a person to escape a situation and rise above it, even if only for a short time. Humor

the discrimination questions. The subjects were told that the test taker would be shown a series

subjects were given mimeographed answer forms that were assumed to match the ones in front of

Road Cormac Mccarthy The Road Analysis
The book The Road Cormac McCarthy creates a darkened mood when he puts this son and father
into a destroyed world. McCarthy created this concept of a world to intensify the meaning of the
piece all together. This darkness in the world creates to fear and the isolation for characters to
realize that this is how life is from now on. The son in this novel comes to the realization of the
world due to certain events within the novel that manipulation the view the son has on the world.
An important flaw the son has is that he does not remember the world as a peaceful place the son
only remembers the world destroyed. This type of naivetes gives the boy a minimal outlook on the
past and see the difference of the present. The father knows the difference which gives the father
the realization before The Roadbegins. The son in portions of The Road is starving, this desolate
place called the world does not give any chance of hope or second ones. The importance of this
geographical state in the book makes the father and son rely on one another because they know
the very importance of staying alive, and the only way they can do that is to fight for one
another. The Road opens with a setting of desolation, When he woke in the woods in the dark and
the cold of the night he d reach out to touch the child sleeping beside him , which creates a concern
within the readers that are realizing the magnitude of this horrible place. (McCarthy 3) The son in

The Black Cat Analysis
Edgar Allan Poe is one of the many poets known for using dark imagery to further the visual
content of his text. In doing so, Poe uses his narrator in The Black Cat to communicate to his
readers a series of household events in which he uses details that horrify and haunt the readers.
Opening with mystery, the readers are able to quickly infer that Poe s narrator lacks common
sense and rationality and that is what causes him become impulsive in his actions towards his
loved ones. In this story, Poe writes through the eyes of an unnamed deceptive narrator who
maltreats his wife and cat and relates how alcoholism and his oblivious views led him to their
murder. By writing through the eyes of his narrator, Poe breaks the fictional barrier and creates a
realism in the story which arouses his readers with the details about the murder of his wife and
beloved cat. Poe s use of dark imagery contributes to the overall mood of the story by utilizing
characterization, diction, and anxiety through his narrator.
Poe develops the dark personality of his narrator throughout the story and allows the story to be
told from a first person point of view which makes the story seem realistic. The narrator includes
detailed descriptions of the torturous and murderous acts that were committed in this story and by
doing this, the narrator holds the reader s attention. Poe characterizes the black cat in the story by
naming the cat Pluto which, according to Moreland and Rodriguez, is ...an obvious reference to
the ruler of Hades (Moreland, Rodriguez 209). The name of the cat is significant for this reason;
Pluto the black cat, is named after a dark Greek ruler, which shows Poe wanted to characterize
the black cat as an evil being. Poe illustrates the black cat as evil by describing it as entirely black
and by saying that when the cat bit him the fury of a demon instantly possessed (Poe 5) him.
Early in the story, when Poe first introduces the black cat he mentions an ancient popular notion,
which regarded all black cats as witches in disguise (Poe 4), by adding this to the description of
the cat it creates a dark image which foreshadows how the narrator feels later in the story towards
the feline. By choosing to

The Industrial Revolution Of The Late Nineteenth And Early...
The industrial revolution of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century served as the impetus
to the creation of new technologies that helped interconnect various parts of the world. In essence,
technology was crucial to the development of a globalized economy. With the development of a
global economy companies began to expand beyond national borders and cater to citizens around
the world by becoming multinational corporations. These now global companies have not only
expanded their markets, but also rely on labor and raw materials from all around the world. For
example, PepsiCoInc. employs a global workforce to drive their business, Apple Inc. acquires
their component supplies from companies spanning the globe, and The Boeing Company uses a
global distribution system in order to market their products to airlines in various regions of the
world. PepsiCo Inc. was established in 1965 with the merger of Pepsi Cola and Frito Lay. Ever
since, the company has been expanding its line of products via acquiring other companies and
creating new brands. For example, PepsiCo introduced the Doritos brand of tortilla chips in 1966,
which became an instant hit. Furthermore, in 1998 PepsiCo acquired Tropicana Products. Over the
past 50 years, PepsiCo has entered over 200 countries such as Japan, Russia, and India even though

1.Definition of Globalization
After the cold war, word globalization was commonly used at a time of unprecedented
interconnectedness when advanced nations experienced a ruthless development by exploiting energy
resources and stressing culture forms in developing countries. To identify the definition of
globalization , it is significant to clarify its appearance as well as implication.
An outstanding mechanism frequently used to interpret Globalization is the World Economy .

Moreover, western countries frequently made use of powerful foreign cultures as a tool to impose
upon the native cultures.
Thus, an irreconcilable contestation about the definition of globalization was often listed in
previous literatures. Opinions diversified in various realms and differed from optimistic to
pessimistic. The definition of globalization below illustrates the outwards manifestation of this
phenomenon and its implication a degree of homogenization.
Globalization is an irreversible tendency which implement an integration of economy, politics,
culture and technology regardless of the restrictions of time zones (distance) and national border
(space). International political economic structure has been changed through globalization, as more
countries with higher level of comprehensive national strength occupied leading positions.
Providing opportunities for individual countries to pursue its own national interests in a broader
market is of the essence of globalization.
From the historical globalist standpoint, globalization identified when people ultimately recognize
the impacts of the intensification of global issues. Several innovations, such as transportation
means, telecommunication systems and Internet facilitate the spread of internationalization.
Another possibly preconditions of globalization is that countries consciously initially participate in
a global market. However, is globalization what advanced

was France. Although, the Roman Empire had split long time ago, the monarchical division of

asked not to be named, and she stated A very sick man named Monet came to the hospital
looking very zombie like and died but not before exploding over the waiting room and the
doctors and nurses who were operating on him. Also Dr. Musoke was infected and is now
unconscious. I then started to search for Dr. Silverstein who had cared for Dr. Musoke. When I
found Dr. Silverstein I told him what I why I was there. Though he was reluctant to reveal
information, I convinced him to tell me that Dr. Musoke was positive for a virus known as
Marburg. Apparently He had never heard of Marburg so I went to investigate. My sources found

The Population s Natural Resources
Togo s environment consists of a fair amount of diversity with gently sloping savanna hills in the
north, expansive lagoons and marshes stretching from the coastal plain in the south, and hills and
plateaus in the central region of the country. The nation s natural resources are made up
predominately of phosphates, limestone, marble, and arable land. As of 2011 their total renewable
water resources are 14.7 cu km, with total withdrawals in 2005 only at 0.17 cu km per year,
suggesting they have enough water resources to meet the growing needs of their people for the
time being. The percentage of endogenous freshwater supply withdrawn for use by Togo as listed
by The World Resources Institute is about 1% annually. The more difficult issue for Togo will be
protecting the water quality and finding the financing and resources to expand infrastructure to
provide a much larger % of the population with access to improved water and sanitation. Natural
hazards for Togo are hot temperatures, intermittent droughts, and dry Harmattan winds causing
reductions in visibility. The country s most troubling environmental issues include deforestation
from slash and burn agriculturecombined with the harvesting of wood for fuel. Water pollution
causing health hazards with drinking water sources, and harming the fishing industry. Additionally,
increasing urbanization and development is causing rises air pollution, which has become more
threatening to their urban metropolitan areas. The

The Use Of Wireless Local Area Networks
Wireless local area networks (WLANs) are quickly evolving in computer communication networks
(Yue Matsumoto, 2002). They are being developed to deliver users in restricted geographical
areas the ability to use a high bandwidth. WLANs are used in wireless offices, businesses, college
campuses, and other areas (Yue Matsumoto, 2002). The use of wirelessnetwork interfaces allows
mobile devices to connect to the internetusing the Ethernet. Numerous contention based protocols
that could be modified for use in wireless local area networks exist (Yue Matsumoto, 2002). The
current standard protocol being observed by IEEE802.11, a standard for WLANs, consist of
protocols based on the carrier sense multiple access, better known as CSMA (Yue... Show more

Wireless networks should be protected to safeguard sensitive information. Several practices can
be implemented to protect wireless networks. Executing a wireless security policy is a crucial
factor for protecting data. The security policy should address elements such as responsibilities for
users of the network, scope and goals of the policy, guidelines about internet access, approved
hardware and software, penalties for not obeying security policies, and any other specifics related
to the policy (Weaver, Weaver, Farwood, 2013).
Proper training is another way to protect wireless security. All users should be trained and made
fully aware of the security policy. Security audits can be used to protect wireless networks because
they provide a good way to identify vulnerabilities and correct them. During the audit, a variation of
tools and methods are used in an effort to break into the network (Weaver, Weaver, Farwood, 2013).
Strong authentication and encryption are other ways to protect wireless networks. The most
common authentication method is (EAP) Extensible Authentication Protocol (Kurt Ozdemir, 2013).
This method supports several methods of authentication and runs over data link

  • 2. Homeless Vehicle Project With David Lurie Since the wealthy class decided whether or not what was considered fine art, many contemporary artists began to rebel against these practices and began creating work that not only included lower class members of society but also addressed many of the issues they were facing in their societies such as homelessness. During the mid 1980s, many contemporary artists began taking their works out of the museums and galleries and started presenting them in the city streets, povertystricken ghettos and urban communities. His anger towards his mother is also shown in his comparison of her being like Niobe all tears because like the mythological figure Niobe she also mourned however Niobe was turned to stone and kept weaping which suggests that he considers her to be hypocritical because while she cried and mourned she remarried only a month after her husband died. The Progressive Era Of Social And Political Reform During the time from the 1890s to the 1920s a period of social and political reform took place in the United States known as the Progressive Era. The era saw the expansion of political and economic freedom through the reinvigoration of the moment for woman suffrage, the use of political power to expand workers rights and efforts to improve democratic government by weakening the power of the city bosses and giving ordinary citizens more influence on legislation. The progressive reformers from this time gained a majority of their support from the education middle class of urban areas. Another term used to describe these reformers is Muckrakers. Muckrakers were investigative journalists who tried to make the public aware of the problems in society that needed fixing. They stemmed from yellow journalism, which was a style of reporting that used exaggeration to attract readers. In a speech made by U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt in 1906, the term muckraker was used in a derogatory way, he borrowed the word from John Bunyan s Puritan story Pilgrim s Progress, which spoke of a man with a Muck rake in his hand who raked filth rather than look up to nobler things. However, it eventually came to take on a positive overtone due to the serious social issues of the progressive era the muckrakers had underlined. The aftermath frightened and impacted the nation s reputation, and in order to measure the nature and extent of our policies, it is important to understand our efforts after this national attack on US soil. Many interesting documents released earlier that year provides a detailed perspective of America s economic policies and actions towards the War on Terror. The U.S. came out with a massive debt that has impacted the nation in several ways, but this leads to a basic question with a complex answer: How did the U.S. War on Terrorismimpact the American Debt Crisis? After researching further into the 9/11 attacks, clearly most of the money put into the war was wasted or misspent. Even though it was crucial going after the terrorists, especially since they had taken many lives and were capable to repeating their attack caused fear throughout the nation. It is important to signal out that the U.S. was attacked from a terrorist organization that had their focus on the U.S. for a long time. The impact that this served after 9/11 plays a clear role in defining the results of how these economic policies were taken into action. Not addressing teachers negative attitudes will invariably lead to continued challenges with incorporating classroom technology, especially with those teachers who focus lessons on memorization or note taking. Irrationality And Rationality Explore how Arthur Miller portrays the conflict between emotionality and rationality through Eddie s struggle between right and wrong in A View from the Bridge A View from the Bridge is the story of a man, Eddie Carbone, who falls in love with his niece. He has a hard choice to make between possible happiness through this forbidden, unrequited love and propriety with his wife. As a retelling, this play s plot is not what makes it so notoriously well praised. This is an analysis of how the playwright achieved this complex portrayal. Miller starts by introducing Normal Eddie, a version of the protagonist not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In denying his emotionality, an essential part of himself, he is driven to irrationality. A clear example of this self suppression is seen towards the end of the text, wherein his wife, Beatrice, tells Eddie that the truth is not as bad as blood [...] Eddie, crying out in agony: That s what you think of me that I would have such a thought? His fists clench his head as though it will burst. In this situation, Beatrice is trying to convince Eddie not to fight one of the illegal immigrants having denounced him for calling the Immigration Bureau. The truth is an allusion to the root of this tumultuous situation his feelings for his niece. The atmosphere is foreboding, punctuated by the metonymy of blood for argument or fight . This line is dark, pessimistically foreshadowing the calamitous end to the play. The ameliorative comparison between this blood and Eddie s truth is meant as assurance that his love, whilst incestuous, is not nearly as horrendous as it could be, and as he believes it to be. However, this only agitates Eddie more, heightening the perilous atmosphere of the scene. This is seen through the stage direction crying out in agony . The word agony is peculiar, as the expected emotion here would be anger, for the protagonist had been ready to fight moments ago. This is shocking to the reader, since this is the first real confirmation of Eddie s absolute erraticism. Moreover, this struggle is emphasised by the word crying , as it shows his anguish is heightened to the point of screaming. And yet, his rhetorical question reveals only disgust at Beatrice s perceptions. This provides an ironic, queerly comical contrast. This contrast is akin to gallows humour, in that it makes light of a depressing scene Eddie is so entrenched in his desperate need to regain rationality after his crucial betrayal that he still clings to his lies. This was stated by Russian American novelist Ayn Rand; the extract relates to the novel William Golding wrote called Lord of the Flies. Golding wrote about a group of schoolboys trapped on an island from a plane crash. The boys had to figure out how to survive without grownups. Trying to survive was difficult because they had to have common sense and order. They lose those traits throughout the book which resulted in selfishness and corrupt behaviors. Common sense is something we can all treasure as humans, though the boys in Golding s novel didn t have much. One of the characters, Ralph, showed common sense through wanting to make shelters, find food, and get saved. There s another thing. We can help them find us. If a ship comes near the island they may notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire (Golding 38). Ralph wanted to build that fire to let someone know where they were and that showed common sense. On the other hand another character, Jack, showed he had a lack of discernment towards what work should be done first: We want meat. Well, we haven t got any yet. And we want shelters. Besides, the rest of your hunters came back hours ago. They ve been swimming (51). You look up and see giant signs that flash and move around advertising casinos and restaurants. Those signs are discharge tubes holding the active ingredients of our friend neon and his buddy mercury. You decide to walk into the casino with the biggest, coolest sign that says quot;MGM quot;. You walk into the casino wondering what to do first, so you walk over to the nearest craps table. You play craps for a couple hours and decide to cash in and go out to eat with all the money you won. You walk into a sports bar to get a drink and you notice a TV with the Lakers game on. You look up at the TV and notice they are losing 84 to 36. The television has a tube in it that holds neon to project things onto the glass screen you see, without neon you wouldn t be able to watch any of your favorite shows. When you are finished eating your friends ask if you want to go to the Smithsonian observation museum about 10 miles away from downtown Las Vegas. You agree and pile into your rented Mercedes Benz SRX. As your driving on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Parviz Amin Quotes Imagine that one day you had to leave behind everything you ve ever know. You had to leave your family and your country because it was slowly falling apart and you had no idea if you would ever get to see it again. How would you react? In the novel Septembers of Shiraz this is exactly the situation Parviz Amin is dealing with. His homeland, the country of Iranhas been overtaken by a group called the Revolutionary guards. This group hates anyone and everyone who supported or was related to the Shah which was the previous ruler of the country. It just so happens Parviz s father meets that description and eventually is arrested by the same group for being suspected of being a zionist spy. Parviz has to deal with all of this all the way on the opposite side of the globe in New York Cityalong with his own issues of just starting out his college life. His negative attitude about this whole situation definitely isn t helping either. Parviz s pessimistic attitude and lack of beliefs causes a strongly negative affect on his situation and his daily life. Parviz Amin is a young adult starting college in New York City which is almost on the opposite side of the world from his homeland of Iran. He is alone and staying with a strict Jewish family called the Mendelsons who are very kind and understanding towards him yet this doesn t stop their difference in viewpoints from interfering with their relationship. It is shown clearly in the novel that Parviz isn t very interested in religion which ends up preventing him from really interacting with The mendelson s in the way they would like to. This is shown here when they ask Parviz to join them in celebrating a Jewish holiday, He tells himself that no matter how lonely he gets, he will not go so far as to persecute himself by sitting at their table, celebrating a day that to him is no different than any other day (Sofer, 42). Parviz shows many signs of loneliness throughout the book just like in this part but the fact he doesn t realize is that he is the cause of all his loneliness. If he had overlooked the fact it wasn t his religion and bonded with the family anyway he would not be lonely. Not only does he almost force himself to be lonely he also feels that his ... I will also discuss the different methods for calculating depreciation and the effects on accounts if depreciation is not accounted for. In this report, I will be giving examples of fixed assets that are common to the construction industry and also give examples of how depreciation is calculated. What is Depreciation? Depreciation is the reduction in the value of certain fixed assets. It is a periodic reduction of fixed assets, usually done every year. Fixed assets are assets that add value to the company. Examples of fixed assets that can be depreciated are vehicles, buildings, machinery, equipment and fixture and fittings. The only fixed asset that is not depreciated is land, because it is not worn out overtime, unless natural resources are being exploited. When a company buys a new fixed asset it doesn t account for the full cost of it as one single large expense, instead the expense is spread over the life time of the asset. This is done by depreciating the asset. For example a company purchases a CNC router for €50,000 and will be used for five year. If they pay the full amount in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 33. The Black Cat Analysis Edgar Allan Poe is one of the many poets known for using dark imagery to further the visual content of his text. In doing so, Poe uses his narrator in The Black Cat to communicate to his readers a series of household events in which he uses details that horrify and haunt the readers. Opening with mystery, the readers are able to quickly infer that Poe s narrator lacks common sense and rationality and that is what causes him become impulsive in his actions towards his loved ones. In this story, Poe writes through the eyes of an unnamed deceptive narrator who maltreats his wife and cat and relates how alcoholism and his oblivious views led him to their murder. By writing through the eyes of his narrator, Poe breaks the fictional barrier and creates a realism in the story which arouses his readers with the details about the murder of his wife and beloved cat. Poe s use of dark imagery contributes to the overall mood of the story by utilizing characterization, diction, and anxiety through his narrator. Poe develops the dark personality of his narrator throughout the story and allows the story to be told from a first person point of view which makes the story seem realistic. The narrator includes detailed descriptions of the torturous and murderous acts that were committed in this story and by doing this, the narrator holds the reader s attention. Poe characterizes the black cat in the story by naming the cat Pluto which, according to Moreland and Rodriguez, is ...an obvious reference to the ruler of Hades (Moreland, Rodriguez 209). The name of the cat is significant for this reason; Pluto the black cat, is named after a dark Greek ruler, which shows Poe wanted to characterize the black cat as an evil being. Poe illustrates the black cat as evil by describing it as entirely black and by saying that when the cat bit him the fury of a demon instantly possessed (Poe 5) him. Early in the story, when Poe first introduces the black cat he mentions an ancient popular notion, which regarded all black cats as witches in disguise (Poe 4), by adding this to the description of the cat it creates a dark image which foreshadows how the narrator feels later in the story towards the feline.
