Essay on Herbert Hoover
Herbert Hoover
Herbert Hoover called it a noble experiment. Organized crime found it to be the opportunity of a
lifetime. Millions of Americans denounced it as an infringement of their rights. For nearly 14 years
from Jan. 29, 1920, until Dec. 5, 1933 the manufacture, transportation, and sale of alcoholic
beverages was illegal in the United States. The 18th, or Prohibition, Amendment to the Constitution
was passed by Congress and submitted to the states in 1917. By Jan. 29, 1919, it had been ratified.
Enforcement legislation entitled the National Prohibition Act (or more popularly, the Volstead act,
after Representative Andrew J. Volstead of Minnesota) was passed on Oct. 28, 1919, over
President Woodrow Wilsons veto.

Called the 15 gallon law, it prohibited the sale of alcohol in amounts of less than 15 gallons (57
liters). This limited the sale of alcohol to the wealthy. In 1846 Maine passed the first state
Prohibition law. By the mid 1850s 13 states had such laws, but by 1863 all except Maine had
repealed them.
Two major temperance organizations emerged in the decade after the Civil War. The National
Prohibition party was founded in 1869 and the Woman s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) in
1874. Partly through their efforts six states adopted Prohibition by 1890. The strongest force behind
the movement for national Prohibition, however, was the Anti Saloon League, founded in 1893.
Unlike the Prohibition party, it did not put up candidates for public office. Instead it worked for or
against Democratic and Republican candidates, depending on their attitude toward drinking. The
league was successful in getting 33 states to pass restrictive legislation by 1920.
Forces favoring Prohibition represented a reaction against changes that were taking place in the
United States. Rural and small town values were being challenged by rapidly industrializing cities.
Millions of new immigrants mostly Roman Catholics from Eastern and Southern Europe were
viewed as a threat by the Protestant majority. Prohibition was an attempt to reassert what were
considered traditional American values and to force newer members of the

Essay Van Gogh failure
Van Gogh failure In the realm of art there have been numerous accounts of infamous artists who
have stood out in their art period, such as Goya, Monet and Picasso. One artist who stood out
during his art period was Vincent van Gogh, not only for his artwork but also because of his tragic
life. Vincent van Goghis now a world renowned painter who was born on March 30th, 1853. He
was born in Groot Zundert in North Brabant and was the son of Theodorus van Gogh. His art is
considered to be part of the expressionism era and his most famous art works include Starry Night,
Sun Flowers and The Mulberry Tree. But though he has had much love, admiration and popularity

Gauguin expressed that they simply could not live together in peace, and expressed his need to
distance himself from Vincent. It is clear that Vincent simply could not blend into society nor could
he get along with other artists.
Though one may think that even though society could not accept van Gogh surely his family
would be able to bear him, but this was not the case. Van Gogh also failed in having a stable
relationship with his family. In his early adulthood, Vincent had already lost the respect of one
of his family members: At the age of twenty three years he is now thrown out of employment,
without any chance of a better career; Uncle Vincent is deeply disappointed in his namesake and
washes his hands of him. (44). At twenty three, his uncle gave him a chance to advance himself,
but he ends up failing miserably and so his uncle, being fairly disappointed, washes his hands of
any responsibility of Vincent. Later in his life, van Gogh struggles as a painter and had received
help from his family. He moved in with his family and hoped to grow as an artist but ended up
further alienating his family, In consequence of several disagreeable discussions with the other
members of the family, he resolved to live no longer at the vicarage, but took up his abode in the
studio, where he stayed from May to November. (Pg. 63, Roskill). He had a

Does Paying Kids To Do Well In School Really Work Analysis
The general argument made by Arianna Prothero in her passage, Does Paying Kids to Do Well
in School Actually Work, is that incentives, such as paying students to go to school, will improve
the way they learn. More specifically, she believes that financial incentives affect students rather
than little trinkets or toys. She writes Incentives are also more likely to work for students who
need a little improvement to earn a passing grade. In this passage, Arianna is suggesting that more
schools in the U.S. should start providing incentives but that are designed well or else they will
not work. So, does paying kids to do well in schoolactually work? In Denmark, students receive
about five thousand, thirty eight hundred and eighty nine Danish Krones, which is equivalent to
nine hundred American dollars. In the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although she has many good points, I disagree. Students should not get paid to have good grades
and to stay in school. I do believe that students should get good grades and stay in school, but
should not receive payment for something most students are already forced to do. Let s face it,
what student, on the brink of dropping out, is going to stay in school just to earn ten measly
dollars. Some say only students who acquire good grades should receive payment. So with that
taken into account, there are many questions that need to be asked, such as what grade point
average is considered to be good, how much will students be getting paid for this certain grade point
average, how will students get paid, cash, check, debit card, lunch money, and the list just continues
on. A study conducted by Harvard Crimson showed that although when students were provided
financial incentives to score well on tests, the students being paid actually did not do any better than
the students

Health-Related Violence Personal Statement
My career as physician based on this course I understand that physicians and other medical
professionals encounter victims of violence and abuse every day even in present day. Violence
in public is a growing epidemic and is leading in worldwide health problem and can be very
expensive, it was estimated by the CDC that medical related violence in the US has surpassed $70
billion dollars a year (violence Prevention timeline). Health care advocates, reports, surveillance
systems and programs have developed in response to violence and its impact on public health.
Abuse comes in many forms of physical, mental, and sexual abuse, all have impacts that affect the
victims and have a negative effect on the victim and on society. Health organizations began in 1979

Interracial Advancements
Descent and distribution state statutes as well as supplemental statutes or court rulings can prohibit
or limit inheritance in certain unusual circumstances. Some of these unusual circumstances include:
advancements, renunciation or disclaimer and public policy.
Advancements:
Advancement means that a person can transfer property to expectant heirs with the intention that the
property be deducted from their eventual expected inheritance. In most states, an advancement is
required to be memorialized in a contemporaneous writing. This is a result of problems with
fraudulent claims. The advancement could be a gift or a loan. It depends upon the specific
situation. If it s a gift, it s typically deducted from the amount the heir would otherwise ... Show

The renunciation is a return of the property. A disclaimer is a passing on of the property. Either
one will suffice for an heir who does not want to receive his inheritance. Both usually mean that the
heir will be treated as predeceasing the estate and their inheritance will pass to the next person in
line (according to the statute of descent and distribution).
Public Policy:
Sometimes the state may limit or prohibit an inheritance. This would be done for public policy
reasons. For instance, two or more potential heirs die at the same time (perhaps in the same event
of accident). The difficulty of providing which of the two potential heirs died first, second, third,
etc. will often result in the state s adoption of the Uniform Simultaneous Death Act. Under this
Act, if one potential heir does not clearly survive the other potential hear by a certain amount of
time, both will be treated as having predeceased the other. This results in equal shares of their
jointly owned property being distributed to the heirs of both potential heirs. In addition, public
policy could limit or prohibit inheritance of a person who was involved in an intentionally killing
that left them benefitting from the act, i.e. if the killer would benefit from the victim s death. In
this situation the potential heir or killer would be treated as predeceased. Public policy can also
block inheritance by an illegal alien unless there is a treaty in place between the United States and
the appropriate foreign country that would allow the

Alabama Economic Problems
The chances of winning a lottery have the same odds as being stuck by lighting on a clear day.
Yet, the Alabama legislature is working on a bill that would offer its citizens the opportunity to
vote for or against the lottery. Approving the lottery will not assure an answer to Alabama s
economic problems or resolve problems the General Funds budget is facing. This writer s purpose
will provide reasons that a lottery is not a quick fix, and could create accumulating problems for the
citizens Alabama. The first issue for opposing the lottery is, the money generated. Where will this
massive amount of generated revenue go, to education, prisons, or the General funds account? This
creates a Fund that will generate millions of dollars with no solid plan for earmarking the money
to benefit the state of Alabama. Alabama taxpayers have a legal right to have a transparent

The Lincoln-Douglas Debate
Before watching the debate, read through this section twice. The first time will give you the gist
of what is presented, while the second time will allow you to see if you can actually do as it
instructs.
In the world of debate, as in any other technical environment, specific terms are used to convey
vitally important meaning. Apologetic jargon is fairly self explanatory, with a few exceptions.
However, it is important to note that there are multiple styles of debate, and each of these styles has
specific language as well. In the high school debate circuit, for example, one may encounter
Lincoln Douglas Debate, which is philosophical in nature and includes fairly simple terminology.
One may also encounter Policy Debate, which is far more technical and adheres to a paradigm for
voting that includes stock issues like significance, inherency, topicality, and solvency.

flowing does not require an extraordinary genetic trait or an exceptionally skilled individual. Rather
it can be learned by anyone and then be further developed with time and practice.

Clarence Thomas Accomplishments
What does it take to become a Supreme Court Justice in the United States? It doesn t matter what
race you are; which neighborhood you grew up in or how much you have. From living in a
predominately black town, and not know where his next meal is going to coming from, Clarence
Thomas has proven that all barriers can be overcame. He was the second African American to serve
on the court. Thomas served as a Judge on the United StatesCourt of Appeals for the District of

serve on the court) announced his retirement, President George W. Bush elected Thomas to
become a candidate for the position. Clarence Thomas has been serving on the Supreme Court

Vampires And Pop Culture
We have been living in the era of vampires and any other kinds of monsters for a while now.
Vampires have always been relatable creatures, which allows fans to connect with vampire
characters. They represent the attraction towards being a vampire and having eternal life and are
presented to popular culture in a way that is attractive and relatable to the evolution of vampires
(Del Toro and Hogan 37). Over the past years, vampires have jumped in popularity and pop
culture appeal, taking over our television sets, the movie theaters and box offices and books from
around the world. Around 2010, Hollywood released four vampirefilms along with a bunch of
vampire DVD s, and the immensely popular television series like the vampire diaries and true
blood continued to air due to how popular those shows are. One monster I d like to put as an
example would be vampires Blood Thirsty: Why are Vampires Ruling Pop Culture? by Lindsay
Bradshaw. They are the latest trends to appear on pop culture`s radar, but this is not the first time
its caught the publics eye. Vampires have been a constant presence in the literature and film world
since the 1897`s publication of Bram Stoker`s Dracula, arguably the best vampire text of all time.
The idea that vampires exist across the globe has been a subject of folk tale, superstition, and myth
throughout the history of man. Even before the famous Dracula, the word vampires was originated
in eastern European Folklore, terrorizing small communities in

Persuasive Essay On Self Driven Cars
Over 37,000 people die in road crashes each year, an additional 23.5 million are injured or
disabled, nearly 8,000 people are killed in crashes involving drivers ages 16 20 ( Road Crash
Statistics ). According to the Association for Safe International Road Travel, crashes cost the
U.S. $230.6 billion per year, or an average of $820 per person ( Road Crash Statistics ). So, now
imagine a world in where you feel safe to drive any time of the day. Imagine getting into a car
and not worrying about driving alongside drunk drivers, drivers who are exhausted, or
distracted drivers who are on their phones. Our technology has advanced significantly and it
only continues advancing. Waymo, a small project that was launched by Google started
exploring the idea of a self driven car. Self driven cars can be beneficial to our society because
they will lower traffic while improving safety, lower the death toll in car accidents, and will be
environmental friendly. If we start using self driving cars our society will become less worried
about risking their lives and people would not be so afraid to get to their destination. First and
foremost, with self driven cars having quicker reflexes than humans they will be less likely to
make the silly mistakes most humans make which will improve traffic congestion and safety.
Chris Urmson, the director of the self driving car project at Google in a blog post says, We have
improved our software so it can detect hundreds of distinct objects simultaneously pedestrians,
buses, a stop sign held up by a crossing guard, or a cyclist making gestures that indicate a
possible turn (Hustad). With driverless cars being this smart, it is okay to get distracted or to
make that important business call. These self driving cars are aware like no other and can
detect hundreds of objects. It is a little harsh to say, but driverless cars might just pay more
attention to the road than a human can because it never gets tired nor distracted. Karis Hustad
also mentions, In a video, the Google driverless car can sense a biker who veers in and out of its
lane, navigate around road construction, and pause for errant pedestrians. The new technology can
also read stop signs and waits for all cars to cross

However, the Marines failed to scout the woods. As a consequence, they missed a regiment of
German infantry dug in, with a network of machine gun nests and artillery.[7] At dawn, the Marine
1st Battalion, 5th Marines commanded by Major Julius Turrill was to attack Hill 142, but only two
companies were in position. The Marines advanced in waves with bayonets fixed across an open
wheat field that was swept with German machine gun and artillery fire, and many Marines were cut
down.[9][10] Captain Crowther commanding the 67th Company was killed almost immediately.
Captain Hamilton and the 49th Company fought from wood to wood, fighting the entrenched
Germans and overrunning their objective by 6 yards (5.5 m). At this point, Hamilton had lost all
five junior officers, while the 67th had only one commissioned officer alive. Hamilton reorganized
the two companies, establishing strong points and a defensive line.[11] In the German counter

fled; for this action he became the first Marine to receive the Medal of Honor in World War I. Also
cited for advancing through enemy fire during the counter attack was then Gunner Henry
Hulbert.[12] The rest of the battalion now arrived and went into action.

Discrimination Quotes In Frankenstein
Discrimination in Frankenstein
Have you ever discriminated against someone or been discriminated against because you were
different? Frankenstein is a book that explores society and human behavior when someone different
is introduced. It says that humans are not always willing to introduce someone new to their society
and that sometimes they tend to discriminate against the different one. To show this, the writer used
a monster which was introduced to a human society. This monster is rejected everywhere he goes
because of his difference. He is rejected by his creator, and then he is rejected by the villagers, by
the farmers who the monster had so long admired and in the end by the reader himself.
Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created, I rushed out of the room .
The writer uses this quote to show that the creator, in this case Victor Frankenstein, is the first to
reject the monster as he rushes out of the room. Victor had worked day and night trying to create
an individual that would be and would look like a human. Once Victor had finished creating this
monster he realized how not human like the monster was and decided to reject him as the book
states: I had desidered it with an ardour that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished

Colossal Figure Of Akhenaten Essay
The Colossal Figure of Akhenaten was built during the Amarna Period, which was a period of
change. The ruler was Amenhotep IV who changed his name to Akhenaten around 1348 BC.
Akhenaten changed the religion from polytheism to monotheism and he moved the capital of Egypt
from Thebes to Akhetaten. He also changed the artwork of the time, which is clearly shown in the
Colossal Statue of Akhenaten. This statue was placed southeast of the Temple of Karnack where a
temple for the (new) one God, Aten, was built. The Statue is a depiction of Akhenaten. It is about
16 feet tall and made of sandstone that has traces of polychromy within it.
The reason why the Amarna Period art is drastically different is because the pharaoh, Akhenaten,

Akhenaten s statue has none of those qualities. It depicts the pharaoh as having a large stomach, not
flat abs, which is shown by the obvious natural, curved line that is just above the sash and is the
most prominent distortion. This is also an implied line that enunciates the imperfect body shape of
the statue. The protruding stomach also creates a natural shadow that further shows the distorted
features. Continuing downward on the statue to the sash there is also a natural, curved line that
goes upward towards the thin waistline. This shows a feminine quality that men should not have.
On the clothing, there is an implied overlapping with the pieces of cloth in the front shown by the
layering effect. Also, on the clothing there are implied lines that seem to curve around the statue.
They all seem to be drawn to an unseen focal point near the top of the sash, creating movement.
This implies that the clothing is wrinkled giving it a different texture then the rest of the statue
which is smooth. It also emphasizes the feminine curve to his body. This is also emphasized by the
lines that are further apart on top and as the body narrows, the lines get closer together like the
fabric has to stretch more around the

The billing scorecards are informative to the PMs and others, however it does not seem to be
improving billing timeliness as the grades have not increased significantly on average(insert
endnote). The punitive nature of the scorecards (ie. Detention meetings) have the right goal in
mind but may cause managers to harbor resentment which most likely would not lead to the
desired effect. Since the P Cars focus more on procedures rather than personnel, we will focus our
alternatives mainly on procedural aspects as P Cars were the most successful.
Alternative 2:
Another alternative is to have an IT system that is integrated into the billing system. It can have
several advantages and resolve key issues effecting billing accuracy and timeliness. An important
flaw that an IT system will help address is efficiency in the billing process. Currently, billing work
can only be submitted once a week and reports take too long to download onto a PM s computer.

The Things They Carried The Weight Of Life Essay
The Weight of Life
They carried the sky. The whole atmosphere, they carried it, the humidity, the monsoons, the stink
of fungus and decay, all of it, they carried gravity, (O Brien 114). The Things They Carried
follows army men as they endure the hardships of battle. Through the story, we are introduced to
the characters by what they carry with them. Each object reveals continuously more about the
characters that ultimately brings us to an understanding of who they are. The use of objects in this
story relates well with my life. By looking at what I carry, it can be determined who I am. May it be
a driver s license, style choice, or even the way one carries himself; it can be determined (at least
roughly) who someone is. However, it is the meaning behind what we carry that truly defines who
we are. Tangible or intangible, what we carry tells our individual story ... Show more content on

I personally relate well to a specific portion of this story. Lieutenant Jimmy Cross carried a
pebble with him everywhere he went. It may seem absurd to carry a pebble while at war... what
s the use, right? However, he carried more than just a pebble; he carried his love for Martha
through that seemingly useless rock. I too carried an object like that pebble: something
seemingly useless. I acquired a green wrist band while with my good friend. This was one of the
last times I spoke to her. From that day on, I wore the green wrist band every minute of every
hour for two years. Although I cared very much for her, the feelings only went in one direction.
Every time I looked down at the green band it reminded me of her. One day the green wrist band
finally snapped... but I wasn t sad. When it gave out it was almost like closure for me. When the
small weight of that band was lifted from my wrist, an even larger weight was lifted from my
heart. I looked down at the fractured band, smiled, and threw it

The Diagnosis Of Cancer, Pulmonary Tuberculosis, And Hiv Aids
The diagnosis is one of the most important factors which influence the outcome of diseases but
still it is ignored on a large scale by people. In cases of chronic diseases such as cancer, HIV AIDS,
and tuberculosis, the problem of late diagnosis is severe which causes high number of casualties.
The physical symptoms may take time to appear in some cases of cancer. When a person starts to
notice the symptoms, the disease is already in a late stage. In India, 70 percent of cancer patients
consult the doctor at the terminal stage, according to doctors. Thus, late diagnosis of diseases is a
serious concern globally and rigorous research is being done to invent innovative techniques to
tackle this problem. In this study, the cases of breast... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A cancer tumor often produces a specific protein in the blood that serves as a marker for the
cancer. Circulating tumor cells are cells that break off from the cancer and move into the blood
stream. Protein markers and circulating tumor cells can be measured with simple blood tests. This
method is not specific in nature as one marker may be common for multiple types of cancer.
Hence, other tests are performed to confirm the diagnosis of breast cancer.
For example, presence of CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen) marker is associated with colon, lung,
and liver cancer. It also suggests that breast cancer has travelled to other parts of body. iii)
Breast MRI: MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging, is a technology that uses magnets and radio

Hezbollah the Terrorist Organization Essay
Hezbollah:
Hezbollah is a terrorist organization that originated in Lebanon in 1982. In just more than twenty
years Hezbollah has proved itself to be an effective terrorist organization. Hezbollah is much more
than just a terrorist organization. In Lebanon it has become a major political party and social force
to be reckoned with, as well as a major supporter of other terrorist groups. Hezbollah is a powerful
organization and this power has led to its dominance in the world of terror.
Hezbollah was formed in 1982 by radical Lebanese Shiites who wanted to create an Islamic state in
Lebanon and to free their land of Israeli domination (Byers, 2003). These extremists called their

This hatred for Israel was compounded by Israel s occupation of part of Lebanon. The removal of
foreigners from Lebanese soil was considered a just cause and this ideological mission earned
Hezbollah the support of many of the citizens of Lebanon and the rest of the Arab world.
Israel was not the only foreigner in Lebanon. The United Nations also, had French and American
soldiers stationed in Lebanon as UN peacekeepers (Byers, 2003). This did not, please Hezbollah,
who wanted all foreigners off Lebanese soil. On April 18, 1983, Hezbollah finally struck. A
Hezbollah operative drove an explosive laden van into the U.S. embassy in Beirut, Lebanon

forces out of Lebanon (Byers).
This departure of the American forces was a major triumph for Hezbollah. They had pioneered a

The Writing A Great Swoosh Of Energy
Students will write numerous essays throughout their high school years, and most teachers adapt
some form of in class editing, or peer editing. Though the problem with this is that poor editors do
not just have an effect on their own writing and their own essay, but they affect others, as well.
Students do not put as much time or effort into revising as they are required to do. The rough draft
is meant to be byzantine, with the understanding that a thorough editor will comb through every
sentence and completely tear it apart. In a great swoosh of energy, [the writer] plunges into the
writing, putting down everything that occurs to him in the first of what may turn out to be 9 or 10
drafts (Epstein para. 10). Of course, it often ends up being a repetitive and extensive process;
however, if it seems boring, then the editingis not being executed correctly. Though often perceived
as tedious, editing an essay is indubitably the most enjoyable part of the writing process.
Overview
Editing an essay is fairly simple. An editor s job is to mark up the essay, piece by piece, and
ameliorate it. As a work in progress , the writing goes through stages, and the editorial stage will
help trim and sharpen the final piece (Van Patten para. 1). The first draft is expected to be messy
and long, for it is just the writer transferring ideas from his/her mind onto the paper; proofreading
and revising it will completely transform the jumble of words into a presentable work.

How Did Broadway Shows Affect American Culture
Broadway Shows, Their Time Period and How It Relates to the American Culture Throughout
American history there has been many events that have affected the way the United States is
governed. Many of these events have been documented throughout letters, movies and plays that
recreate them for future generations. It is these events and time periods that allow America to grow
as a nation. When the United Stateswere merely colonies, the Revolutionary War had taken place
in which the colonists had gained their freedom from England. Although only в…“ of colonists

its freedom. Other events like World War 2 and 9/11 played a similar role because it had a
positive impact on the American culture. Smaller protests such as The Newsboy Strike of 1899
which occured in New York Citywas unknown to the general population of neighboring states but
had a huge impact in New York. These events further helped the government of New York to
grow as a state and reinform laws that helped the working class. In both the broadway shows,
Newsies and Hamilton the setting is recreated to mirror the time period in which the events being

most events, The Newsboy Strike of 1899 could have been prevented but many factors lead to this

A Brief Note On The Athlete s Training Program Essay
Periodization in Bodybuilding
You may ask why the use of periodization in training programs? , well the goal of periodization
is to help maximize what you gain of your training while reducing the risk of getting injured in
the long term. The way this is done is with an intelligently designed training year program that
contains smaller blocks of time that each has its specific goal and priority. This kind of overall
schedule includes many aspects of an athlete s training program and it may include specific training
such as; strength training, conditioning, plyometric, and also any specific sport activities. However
in this essay I will specify the use of periodization in bodybuilding which is a sport that has become
very popular in recent times.
What is Periodization?
In simple terms, Periodization is the planning and organization of training. When periodization is
used in sport, it is usually used based on achieving specific goals such as gaining maximal physical
capabilities (strength, power, speed, etc...) for a given period of competition. For example in
bodybuilding, the training may be planned around a specific competition.
In bodybuilding periodization is not an unusual thing, in fact most bodybuilders periodize their
training anyway and this is to reach their specific goal whether it is to reduce body fat or bring
up a lagging body part. Generally speaking, if you have an aim to reach a goal by a given time,
then in actual fact you are using periodization.

The Career Of A College Degree Essay
1. Brief autobiographical sketch, including what led to your interest in the practice of clinical

Elizabeth Gilbert, famed author of Eat, Pray, Love, once wrote, you spend a lot of your life
having people tell you to follow your passion... passion is hot, it burns. Every day, you can t
access that... Instead, follow your curiosity. After graduating from Terra Nova high school in
2002 I felt pressure to follow my passion and apply for a college degree to pursue it. I was
accepted to San Diego State University but declined the offer and instead enrolled in my local
community college, Skyline College. I didn t feel connected to a passion society says young
adults should feel after graduating high school. Instead, I took a few classes over two semesters
and then decided to leave the bay area where I grew up and move to Las Vegas. It was here in
Las Vegas that I discovered what I was curious about (where my curiosities lied?). Las Vegas has
an eclectic, diverse, interesting, and beautiful flow of people constantly coming in and out of the
city; and it was by observing and interacting with these people everyday that I became curious
about human behavior. After taking 10 years away from school I returned to Las Vegas College of
Southern Nevada in 2012 to receive my associates degree in psychology. I graduated with high
honors, as a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and continued on by applying to the University of
Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) for a bachelor s in psychology. It was

The Minister s Black Veil
How can a pair of eyes bring death to its owner? How can a black veil bring alienation to its
wearer? These are examples of the power of symbols. The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe and
The Minister s Black Veil by Nathaniel Hawthorne both use symbols to convey the dark human
nature, which is a Gothic motif. Also, the symbols are representative of Gothic tradition because
they relate to elements like dark settings, supernatural events, a gloomy mood, and unexplainable
mysteries (Harris). Through the utilization of symbolism along with Gothic elements, both The Tell

thus revealing the underlying themes. To begin with, the eye in... Show more content on

M. Rivlin s Efforts Establishing The Congressional Budget...

(CBO). It will detail the major players, including Rivlin and explain what CBO s sources of power.
This paper will also discuss what stance Rivlin should take regarding political patronage and how
she should manage the situation. Finally, this paper will address which organizational structure she
should adopt for CBO using the framework of five determinants of organizational structure.
The Congressional Budget Act of 1974 established the Congressional Budget Office and on April

Some major power players in Rivlin s appointment and confirmation on the House side were
Chairman Al Ullman and then Rep. Brock Adams. On the Senate side, Chairman of the Senate
Budget Committee, who recommended Rivlin, Edmund Muskie was a major influence in her
appointment.
One of the first things Rivlin did was bringing on Robert Reischauer, a fellow economist from the
Brookings Institute, as her right hand man at CBO. She also reviewed the Budget Act, which
specified what CBO was charged, which was relatively short. Therefore CBO had considerable
freedom under the legislation since both the Senate and House had no clue what they wanted from
their new budget shop. This provided Rivlin an enormous opportunity to look at other models of
how to structure CBO. She could model CBO after other sister agencies like the General
Accounting Office (GAO), Congressional Research Service (CRS), the former Office of
Technology Assessment (OTA), Office of Management and Budget(OMB), or the Joint Committee
on Internal Revenue Taxation Staff. Some suggestions were to organize CBO along functional lines
with policy areas like defense or human resources in separate divisions each containing a numbers
and analysis subdivision. Another suggestion was to spread the numbers function all around to
enable program divisions with a focus on customer relations. But Rivlin also had to be aware of
political patronage. Both Congressmen and

How Is Adversity Shown In The Great Gatsby
Napoleon Hill once stated, Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed
of an equal or greater benefit. From George Washington to Nelson Mandela, greatness is
cultivated from adversity during turbulent times. Horace s assertion is correct in view of the fact
that adversity causes people to act, reveals vulnerabilities, and forces people to adapt. Notably,
people are disinclined to fix what is not broken, only when faced with an obstacle do they act.
For example, in the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gatsby s desire for the love of
Daisy Buchanan was the impetus for his quest to live an affluent life through any means possible.
He would not have taken advantage of his resources if not faced with the complication of how to
procure Daisy s attention. In brief, without a challenge people will be unable to find a way to

Children begin to pretend play, which is when a child acts out routines, such as eating or cleaning.
Children begin to think, however thinking at this stage is still different to the way that adults think.
Their thinking is not very systematic or logical (Wood, 2008 P.48). Piaget stressed that during the
preoperational stage, children?s abilities are limited. One limitation is the inability to take the
perspective of another individual, this is known as ?egocentrism? (Smith, Cowie, Blades 2011
P.390). A child may well presume that everyone has the same knowledge as they do without taking
into consideration another person?s point of view.
Throughout the concrete operational stage, which occurs between seven and twelve years of age,
children begin to think logically. (Wood, 2008 P.47). Children at this stage are able to think
logically about the world and gain the ability to manipulate their mental representations to think and
solve problems. Children in this stage have an understanding of conservation. For example, if sand
was poured from a tall thin container into a short wide container, they would understand that the
quantity is the same as before.
The last stage is the formal operational stage, which occurs during early adolescence. This is when
cognitive development reaches its peak. According to Smith (2003), Piaget believed that individuals
at this stage gain the ability to ?reason hypothetically? (Smith, Cowie, Blades, 2011 P.408).

Johnny Depp in Society
Nonconformity has made its mark on the world. Though it is not like everyone would think. It
has captured attention all over the world. Either how a person dresses or acts. This can vary in
many different ways. Johnny Depp is just one example of taking a strange role in society. From
being a musician to becoming a well known actor. Johnny Depp has a place of nonconformity by
the way he dresses, acts and participates in events in today s society.
Johnny Depp had a very rough childhood. He had to deal with the separation of his mother and
father during his high school days. Johnny didn t take this very lightly. Though through all of his
pain and anger he helped take care of his mother. Who was even more heartbroken than Johnny
was. During this time in his life he hung out with the wrong crowd. Once he was embarrassed by

that need to be watched, and cannot be trusted. But Johnny Depp thinks about these things in a

History of the Funeral Rule Essay
HISTORY OF THE FUNERAL RULE
The roots of the Funeral Rule are found in two books that were published in the late 60 s Unsafe
At Any Speed by Ralph Nader and The American Way of Death by Jessica Midford. In the late
1960 s, the FTC was a paper tiger. Ralph Nader, who began the consumer protection movement in
this country with the publication of Unsafe At Any Speed, was a sharp critic of the Federal Trade
Commission for its lack of consumer protection. Specifically, the FTC was criticized because it
relied too heavily on consumer complaints and brought enforcement actions only on a case by case
basis. The consumer protection movement wanted the FTC to proceed against entire industries
rather than individual businesses. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In March, 1976, the FTC received over 9,000 comments on the proposed rulemaking. The Final
Notice of Rulemaking was published in 1976 and identified 30 disputed areas of fact. These were
the focus of six public hearings that were held from April through August of 1976. There were 315
witnesses, many of which provided anecdotal evidence. There was very little empirical data such
as surveys and valid economic studies. Following the hearings, the presiding officer issued his
report. Additional comments were submitted by the public and the Final Staff Report was delivered
to the Commission in 1979. The FTC tentatively approved the Funeral Rule in March, 1979. The
funeral industry went to Congress and was able to obtain some relief in the form of the FTC
Improvements Act of 1980. That statute imposed new procedural safeguards in the FTC
rulemaking process. It also required the FTC to republish the Funeral Rule and take additional
comments using the new procedural safeguards. In 1981, the FTC republished the Rule and began
a new proceeding. That led to the promulgation of the Funeral Rule in 1982. After the NFDA
unsuccessfully appealed the Rule to the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the Rule took effect on
January 1, 1984. The Funeral Rule which was finally adopted was less onerous then the one
originally proposed. NFDA was successful in having certain provisions deleted from the original
Rule such as a requirement to have written

Lotus Bassinet Research Paper
Lotus Bassinet Review If you have been searching the web for baby products that you can fall in
love with, chances are good you have seen the Lotus Travel Crib and other products. The reason
for this is simple. Lotus designs items that make it easy to travel with a little one. It does not
matter whether you are traveling to Grandma s house or across the country to stay in a motel on
vacation. Unsure if you should consider it? Check out our Lotus Bassinet review to find out
more about this extremely versatile brand of bassinets, play yards, and travel cribs. The
Difference Between Lotus and Other Cribs/Bassinets/Playards Most bassinets are too bulky to
be easy to carry along on adventures outside of the home. Most of them do not fold up or fit
inside of a storage container the way that the Lotus does. Travel cribs are still rather large cribs
that are difficult to carry if you must travel via a plane. Playards are the same way. Many of
them are playpens that are designed in a way that allows them to fold up flat, but not fold up
small. Lotus products fold up small. They are designed for traveling, but they are comfortable
enough to allow you to use them without worry when at home. The Guava family Lotus crib folds
up small enough to be carried in a large shoebox if you are going to choose the bassinet style crib....

Flat Tax Summary
Ted Cruz s Reforms on the Flat Tax and its Effect on Individuals
Ted Cruz, a republican presidential candidate proposes a 10% flat tax on all individual wages and
income. Unlike his competitors, Cruz proposes to eliminate the payroll tax and replace it with a
16% business flat tax (Rubin, 2016, p. 5). It increases the Standard Deduction from $6,300 ($12,600
married filing jointly) to $10,000 ($20,000 married filing jointly) while retaining the personal
exemption. Cruz proposes to eliminate the Alternative Minimum Tax. However, the candidate does
not offer any tax reforms on social security as well as Medicare. He expects to maintain them at
their current level. Even then, the candidate has unique tax proposals, which are envisaged to ensure

In accordance to Paul s plan, this new tax will replace the gift and the estate taxes as well as
sealing all the loopholes that usually favor the bigger businesses. Paul is also in support of the flat
tax rate that he envisages as eliminating unfair practices such as double taxation of individuals.
Apparently, Paul in his tax proposal is against the disbandment of the IRS. He says that he
would minimize its influence. According to his proposal, downsizing the IRS will make him to
ensure an economic boom. Paul is also supportive of Fiorina s proposal to simplify the tax code.
He says that simplifying the tax code will create more jobs, expand opportunities for all as well
as boost wages. Paul became the unique candidate in the 2016 presidential race when he proposed
to oppose any efforts that would increase taxes (Tucker, 2015, p. 103). Experts believe that if
elected as the president of the United States, he will live to his promise, considering that when he
ran for the US senate seat in 2010 in Kentucky, he ensured that no taxes were increased during his
tenure. Paul s plan to oppose efforts to increase taxes is against the principle of adequacy, which
suggests that an adequate taxation system should uphold the level of public services demanded by
policy makers as well as citizens

The Monk by Matthew G. Lewis Essay
The Female and Male Gothic in Austen s Northanger Abbey and Lewis The Monk
The gothic novel is characterized by mystery and supernatural fear, usually involving evil villains,
and victimized protagonists. These elements are recognized in both Austen s novel, Northanger
Abbey, and Lewis The Monk. The novels are composed of male and female gothic characteristics,
involved in gendered portrayals of supernatural events. The gothic genre is used in these novels in
unique ways, however they both portray gendered depictions of the gothic genre. Austen and Lewis
use their characters to frame the text, and abide by conventions of the male and female gothic
genres. Through the use of these gendered gothic qualities, they expose how characters, ... Show

Catherine responds, I should be too much frightened to do such a thing (Austen 178). Catherine
identifies with the female gothic here, as she is terrorized by the idea of such events, even though
they are simply made up by the villainous General.
Coinciding with the theme of the damsel in distress is the oppressed female and powerful male in
accordance with the female gothic. When Henry Tilney addresses Catherine, ensuring that there is
no hope of a relationship, she returns to her room. Austen describes Catherine as, most bitterly did
she cry...she hated herself more than she could express (Austen 224). This intense emotional
distress is a characteristic of the female gothic in which sensibility overpowers rationality. Mr.
Tilney holds power over Catherina, as he is her love interest, and destroys any hope of a life
together. Catherine s obsession with Henry s denial is attributed as she, wondered over the
repetition of a disappointment for nine successive mornings (Austen 227). This focus on love rather
than reality is a characteristic of the female gothic, where the powerless heroine is controlled by
sentiments and passion rather than logical dilemmas.
Another element of the female gothic is the explained supernatural, in which ordinary events are
explained by supernatural occurrences, combined with secret passageways within the castle. This is
made evident by Austen in a humorous way, as Catherine walks

A detective control is designed to uncover an undesired problem that has transpired. This control is
necessary when the preventive control has failed (Dunn, et al, 2004). The third is the corrective
control, which is designed to restore a system to an approved or last known good state. A company
usually establishes corrective controls to remedy problems that are discovered by the detective
controls. One advisable procedure that can be implemented for this control is establishing training
programs that can teach employees how to use the new automated system that can help them
perform their job functions more efficiently and effectively.
It is necessary to recognize that any control strategy has to be tailored to address the risks to
objectives that management identifies as unacceptable for the integration. The objective should be
detecting risks that are materially threatening the goals of the organization and to reduce them to
the point that management is more willing to accept.

The Ethical Issues Of Abortion
Introduction
There are numerous ethical issues that can develop in labor and delivery whether this issue
influences the mother, baby, or both. In healthcare, it is an obligation for the provider to give ideal
care, treatment, and prevent harm to patients while making ethical choices. Here and there, these
choices aren t highly contrasting and providers must outweigh benefits versus harm in order to
give the best care possible for mother and baby. One case of an ethical issues that emerges in
obstetrics is late abortion in raped victim women.

Cons
On the other hand, the against life or pro abortion support abortion of fetus for many reasons.
There are many times when abortion may be the best and only option for continuing live. One
and most painful reason to mother is when rape occur. Rape is an act of violence, not a natural

Three Major Factors Of The European Colonies In The New World
Beginning in the 17th century, European settlers began migrating and colonializing the New
World discovered by Christopher Columbus, centuries earlier. The process of colonialization was
brutal, it sparked native resistance, and overtime, created tension with Europe. There were
several differences between the colonies that were established. However, the motivation to
colonialize the New World remained the same for most colonies. Three major factors contributed
to the beginning colonies in the 17th century; God, gold, and glory. Many issues were rising in
Europe, including religious intolerance. Citizens were not free to worship whatever they pleased,
they had to abide by the rules and laws of the Church. Political instability, and economic
developments were also contributing factors to emigration. The promise of new gold and new
trade also sparked interest amongst rulers. Recordings from earlier periods revealed new jewels
that the Indigenous People owned. The small amount of writing from this period also suggests that
rulers thought of new trade possibilities. Of course, the biggest factor was glory. Spain, Portugal,
France, Britain, and other countries were constantly trying to compete for dominance. The thought
of new territory to conquer and claim in the New World sparked major emigration. Global
dominance and power was a goal that Europeans had in mind, and the New World was the promise
land. English colonies could be categorized in three groups; royal colonies,

I Am An Active Participant
While it is important that my students are enjoying my class, one of the ways I am able to tell that
my students are excelling is their ability to demonstrate their growth through assessments. Although
it is important students are excelling, it is also important that students are able to be an active
participant in their own growth. Effective teachers allow students to constantly reflect on how they
are doing in class and how they are meeting classroom goals. Assessment reflectionultimately
influences how teachers and learners continue to access material. After teachers have tracked the
data of students, it is then important that they are using a variety of instructional strategies to
encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas.

their goals. My first piece of evidence includes three different assessments. Each assessment
addresses a different kind of learner. For example, the first assessment is an exit ticket that allows
me to see how students have grasped information at the end of the period. The last assessment I
have included is a writing assessment. After students took the writing assessment, I then recorded
their writing scores as demonstrated in my second piece of evidence. I carefully monitor both my
student s reading and writing progress. In order to engage my students in their own own growth, I

Free Will And Free Choice
Freedom of Will
The alarm clock sounds, you get up and stand before your wardrobe, facing a decision. The white
shirt or the blue, both clean, both equally nice, but it is still an easy decision. The blue. You revel
in your creativity and ready yourself for the day to come. The freedom you have always known
permitted the choice, your free will grants you this privilege. Or does it? Free will is a false
concept often confused with free choice. Free will does not truly exist, the limitations set by nature
and the influence of other people hinder the ability to choose without the impact of past experiences.
As Barbara Smoker, a British Humanist activist and freethought advocate stated, Free choice
means you are not forced by other people or what is outside of you. Free will is the idea that you
are not programmed by past and present circumstances to do what you do now, (1). We as human
beings are naturally reliant on other human beings for our daily dose of interaction. This is where
the magic begins. Everyone has an opinion, everyone has criticism, and everyone has different
likes and dislikes, however they are not our own. Most of our childhood experiences shape the
people we become. For example, if you had a dog instead of a cat, and that dog was fairly well
behaved, you are likely to prefer dogs to cats when you grow older. Or, if you had a dog and it was
not well behaved, it is likely you will grow to dislike either the breed or dogs in general. Our
opinions and our

  • 2. Essay on Herbert Hoover Herbert Hoover Herbert Hoover called it a noble experiment. Organized crime found it to be the opportunity of a lifetime. Millions of Americans denounced it as an infringement of their rights. For nearly 14 years from Jan. 29, 1920, until Dec. 5, 1933 the manufacture, transportation, and sale of alcoholic beverages was illegal in the United States. The 18th, or Prohibition, Amendment to the Constitution was passed by Congress and submitted to the states in 1917. By Jan. 29, 1919, it had been ratified. Enforcement legislation entitled the National Prohibition Act (or more popularly, the Volstead act, after Representative Andrew J. Volstead of Minnesota) was passed on Oct. 28, 1919, over President Woodrow Wilsons veto. The 18th ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Called the 15 gallon law, it prohibited the sale of alcohol in amounts of less than 15 gallons (57 liters). This limited the sale of alcohol to the wealthy. In 1846 Maine passed the first state Prohibition law. By the mid 1850s 13 states had such laws, but by 1863 all except Maine had repealed them. Two major temperance organizations emerged in the decade after the Civil War. The National Prohibition party was founded in 1869 and the Woman s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) in 1874. Partly through their efforts six states adopted Prohibition by 1890. The strongest force behind the movement for national Prohibition, however, was the Anti Saloon League, founded in 1893. Unlike the Prohibition party, it did not put up candidates for public office. Instead it worked for or against Democratic and Republican candidates, depending on their attitude toward drinking. The league was successful in getting 33 states to pass restrictive legislation by 1920. Forces favoring Prohibition represented a reaction against changes that were taking place in the United States. Rural and small town values were being challenged by rapidly industrializing cities. Millions of new immigrants mostly Roman Catholics from Eastern and Southern Europe were viewed as a threat by the Protestant majority. Prohibition was an attempt to reassert what were considered traditional American values and to force newer members of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay Van Gogh failure Van Gogh failure In the realm of art there have been numerous accounts of infamous artists who have stood out in their art period, such as Goya, Monet and Picasso. One artist who stood out during his art period was Vincent van Gogh, not only for his artwork but also because of his tragic life. Vincent van Goghis now a world renowned painter who was born on March 30th, 1853. He was born in Groot Zundert in North Brabant and was the son of Theodorus van Gogh. His art is considered to be part of the expressionism era and his most famous art works include Starry Night, Sun Flowers and The Mulberry Tree. Gauguin expressed that they simply could not live together in peace, and expressed his need to distance himself from Vincent. It is clear that Vincent simply could not blend into society nor could he get along with other artists. Though one may think that even though society could not accept van Gogh surely his family would be able to bear him, but this was not the case. Van Gogh also failed in having a stable relationship with his family. In his early adulthood, Vincent had already lost the respect of one of his family members: At the age of twenty three years he is now thrown out of employment, without any chance of a better career; Uncle Vincent is deeply disappointed in his namesake and washes his hands of him. (44). At twenty three, his uncle gave him a chance to advance himself, but he ends up failing miserably and so his uncle, being fairly disappointed, washes his hands of any responsibility of Vincent. Later in his life, van Gogh struggles as a painter and had received help from his family. He moved in with his family and hoped to grow as an artist but ended up further alienating his family, In consequence of several disagreeable discussions with the other members of the family, he resolved to live no longer at the vicarage, but took up his abode in the studio, where he stayed from May to November. • 4. Does Paying Kids To Do Well In School Really Work Analysis The general argument made by Arianna Prothero in her passage, Does Paying Kids to Do Well in School Actually Work, is that incentives, such as paying students to go to school, will improve the way they learn. More specifically, she believes that financial incentives affect students rather than little trinkets or toys. She writes Incentives are also more likely to work for students who need a little improvement to earn a passing grade. In this passage, Arianna is suggesting that more schools in the U.S. should start providing incentives but that are designed well or else they will not work. So, does paying kids to do well in schoolactually work? Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although she has many good points, I disagree. Students should not get paid to have good grades and to stay in school. I do believe that students should get good grades and stay in school, but should not receive payment for something most students are already forced to do. Let s face it, what student, on the brink of dropping out, is going to stay in school just to earn ten measly dollars. Some say only students who acquire good grades should receive payment. So with that taken into account, there are many questions that need to be asked, such as what grade point average is considered to be good, how much will students be getting paid for this certain grade point average, how will students get paid, cash, check, debit card, lunch money, and the list just continues on. A study conducted by Harvard Crimson showed that although when students were provided financial incentives to score well on tests, the students being paid actually did not do any better than the students ... • 7. Interracial Advancements Descent and distribution state statutes as well as supplemental statutes or court rulings can prohibit or limit inheritance in certain unusual circumstances. Some of these unusual circumstances include: advancements, renunciation or disclaimer and public policy. Advancements: Advancement means that a person can transfer property to expectant heirs with the intention that the property be deducted from their eventual expected inheritance. In most states, an advancement is required to be memorialized in a contemporaneous writing. This is a result of problems with fraudulent claims. The advancement could be a gift or a loan. The renunciation is a return of the property. A disclaimer is a passing on of the property. Either one will suffice for an heir who does not want to receive his inheritance. Both usually mean that the heir will be treated as predeceasing the estate and their inheritance will pass to the next person in line (according to the statute of descent and distribution). Public Policy: Sometimes the state may limit or prohibit an inheritance. This would be done for public policy reasons. For instance, two or more potential heirs die at the same time (perhaps in the same event of accident). The difficulty of providing which of the two potential heirs died first, second, third, etc. will often result in the state s adoption of the Uniform Simultaneous Death Act. Under this Act, if one potential heir does not clearly survive the other potential hear by a certain amount of time, both will be treated as having predeceased the other. This results in equal shares of their jointly owned property being distributed to the heirs of both potential heirs. In addition, public policy could limit or prohibit inheritance of a person who was involved in an intentionally killing that left them benefitting from the act, i.e. if the killer would benefit from the victim s death. In this situation the potential heir or killer would be treated as predeceased. Public policy can also block inheritance by an illegal alien unless there is a treaty in place between the United States and the appropriate foreign country that would allow the ... In the world of debate, as in any other technical environment, specific terms are used to convey vitally important meaning. Apologetic jargon is fairly self explanatory, with a few exceptions. However, it is important to note that there are multiple styles of debate, and each of these styles has specific language as well. In the high school debate circuit, for example, one may encounter Lincoln Douglas Debate, which is philosophical in nature and includes fairly simple terminology. One may also encounter Policy Debate, which is far more technical and adheres to a paradigm for voting that includes stock issues like significance, inherency, topicality, and solvency. The ... • 11. Vampires And Pop Culture We have been living in the era of vampires and any other kinds of monsters for a while now. Vampires have always been relatable creatures, which allows fans to connect with vampire characters. They represent the attraction towards being a vampire and having eternal life and are presented to popular culture in a way that is attractive and relatable to the evolution of vampires (Del Toro and Hogan 37). Over the past years, vampires have jumped in popularity and pop culture appeal, taking over our television sets, the movie theaters and box offices and books from around the world. Around 2010, Hollywood released four vampirefilms along with a bunch of vampire DVD s, and the immensely popular television series like the vampire diaries and true blood continued to air due to how popular those shows are. One monster I d like to put as an example would be vampires Blood Thirsty: Why are Vampires Ruling Pop Culture? by Lindsay Bradshaw. They are the latest trends to appear on pop culture`s radar, but this is not the first time its caught the publics eye. According to the Association for Safe International Road Travel, crashes cost the U.S. $230.6 billion per year, or an average of $820 per person ( Road Crash Statistics ). So, now imagine a world in where you feel safe to drive any time of the day. Imagine getting into a car and not worrying about driving alongside drunk drivers, drivers who are exhausted, or distracted drivers who are on their phones. Our technology has advanced significantly and it only continues advancing. Waymo, a small project that was launched by Google started exploring the idea of a self driven car. Self driven cars can be beneficial to our society because they will lower traffic while improving safety, lower the death toll in car accidents, and will be environmental friendly. If we start using self driving cars our society will become less worried about risking their lives and people would not be so afraid to get to their destination. First and foremost, with self driven cars having quicker reflexes than humans they will be less likely to make the silly mistakes most humans make which will improve traffic congestion and safety. Chris Urmson, the director of the self driving car project at Google in a blog post says, We have improved our software so it can detect hundreds of distinct objects simultaneously pedestrians, buses, a stop sign held up by a crossing guard, or a cyclist making gestures that indicate a possible turn (Hustad). With driverless cars being this smart, it is okay to get distracted or to make that important business call. These self driving cars are aware like no other and can detect hundreds of objects. It is a little harsh to say, but driverless cars might just pay more attention to the road than a human can because it never gets tired nor distracted. Karis Hustad also mentions, In a video, the Google driverless car can sense a biker who veers in and out of its lane, navigate around road construction, and pause for errant pedestrians. • 14. Discrimination Quotes In Frankenstein Discrimination in Frankenstein Have you ever discriminated against someone or been discriminated against because you were different? Frankenstein is a book that explores society and human behavior when someone different is introduced. It says that humans are not always willing to introduce someone new to their society and that sometimes they tend to discriminate against the different one. To show this, the writer used a monster which was introduced to a human society. This monster is rejected everywhere he goes because of his difference. He is rejected by his creator, and then he is rejected by the villagers, by the farmers who the monster had so long admired and in the end by the reader himself. Unable to endure the aspect of the being I had created, I rushed out of the room . The writer uses this quote to show that the creator, in this case Victor Frankenstein, is the first to reject the monster as he rushes out of the room. Victor had worked day and night trying to create an individual that would be and would look like a human. Once Victor had finished creating this monster he realized how not human like the monster was and decided to reject him as the book states: I had desidered it with an ardour that far exceeded moderation; but now that I had finished the beauty of the dream vanished, and breathless horror filled my heart .. Continuing downward on the statue to the sash there is also a natural, curved line that goes upward towards the thin waistline. This shows a feminine quality that men should not have. On the clothing, there is an implied overlapping with the pieces of cloth in the front shown by the layering effect. Also, on the clothing there are implied lines that seem to curve around the statue. They all seem to be drawn to an unseen focal point near the top of the sash, creating movement. This implies that the clothing is wrinkled giving it a different texture then the rest of the statue which is smooth. It also emphasizes the feminine curve to his body. Since the P Cars focus more on procedures rather than personnel, we will focus our alternatives mainly on procedural aspects as P Cars were the most successful. Alternative 2: Another alternative is to have an IT system that is integrated into the billing system. It can have several advantages and resolve key issues effecting billing accuracy and timeliness. An important flaw that an IT system will help address is efficiency in the billing process. • 23. The Writing A Great Swoosh Of Energy Students will write numerous essays throughout their high school years, and most teachers adapt some form of in class editing, or peer editing. Though the problem with this is that poor editors do not just have an effect on their own writing and their own essay, but they affect others, as well. Students do not put as much time or effort into revising as they are required to do. The rough draft is meant to be byzantine, with the understanding that a thorough editor will comb through every sentence and completely tear it apart. In a great swoosh of energy, [the writer] plunges into the writing, putting down everything that occurs to him in the first of what may turn out to be 9 or 10 drafts (Epstein para. 10). Of course, it often ends up being a repetitive and extensive process; however, if it seems boring, then the editingis not being executed correctly. Though often perceived as tedious, editing an essay is indubitably the most enjoyable part of the writing process. Overview Editing an essay is fairly simple. An editor s job is to mark up the essay, piece by piece, and ameliorate it. As a work in progress , the writing goes through stages, and the editorial stage will help trim and sharpen the final piece (Van Patten para. 1). The first draft is expected to be messy and long, for it is just the writer transferring ideas from his/her mind onto the paper; proofreading and revising it will completely transform the jumble of words into a presentable work. A Brief Note On The Athlete s Training Program Essay Periodization in Bodybuilding You may ask why the use of periodization in training programs? , well the goal of periodization is to help maximize what you gain of your training while reducing the risk of getting injured in the long term. The way this is done is with an intelligently designed training year program that contains smaller blocks of time that each has its specific goal and priority. This kind of overall schedule includes many aspects of an athlete s training program and it may include specific training such as; strength training, conditioning, plyometric, and also any specific sport activities. However in this essay I will specify the use of periodization in bodybuilding which is a sport that has become very popular in recent times. What is Periodization? In simple terms, Periodization is the planning and organization of training. When periodization is used in sport, it is usually used based on achieving specific goals such as gaining maximal physical capabilities (strength, power, speed, etc...) for a given period of competition. For example in bodybuilding, the training may be planned around a specific competition. In bodybuilding periodization is not an unusual thing, in fact most bodybuilders periodize their training anyway and this is to reach their specific goal whether it is to reduce body fat or bring up a lagging body part. Generally speaking, if you have an aim to reach a goal by a given time, then in actual fact you are using periodization. This is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Also, the symbols are representative of Gothic tradition because they relate to elements like dark settings, supernatural events, a gloomy mood, and unexplainable mysteries (Harris). Through the utilization of symbolism along with Gothic elements, both The Tell Tale Heartand The Minister s Black Veil explore people s dark side and their reactions toward fear; thus revealing the underlying themes. One of the first things Rivlin did was bringing on Robert Reischauer, a fellow economist from the Brookings Institute, as her right hand man at CBO. She also reviewed the Budget Act, which specified what CBO was charged, which was relatively short. Therefore CBO had considerable freedom under the legislation since both the Senate and House had no clue what they wanted from their new budget shop. This provided Rivlin an enormous opportunity to look at other models of how to structure CBO. She could model CBO after other sister agencies like the General Accounting Office (GAO), Congressional Research Service (CRS), the former Office of Technology Assessment (OTA), Office of Management and Budget(OMB), or the Joint Committee on Internal Revenue Taxation Staff. Some suggestions were to organize CBO along functional lines with policy areas like defense or human resources in separate divisions each containing a numbers and analysis subdivision. Another suggestion was to spread the numbers function all around to enable program divisions with a focus on customer relations. But Rivlin also had to be aware of political patronage. • 35. How Is Adversity Shown In The Great Gatsby Napoleon Hill once stated, Every adversity, every failure, every heartache carries with it the seed of an equal or greater benefit. From George Washington to Nelson Mandela, greatness is cultivated from adversity during turbulent times. Horace s assertion is correct in view of the fact that adversity causes people to act, reveals vulnerabilities, and forces people to adapt. Notably, people are disinclined to fix what is not broken, only when faced with an obstacle do they act. For example, in the novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gatsby s desire for the love of Daisy Buchanan was the impetus for his quest to live an affluent life through any means possible. Children begin to pretend play, which is when a child acts out routines, such as eating or cleaning. Children begin to think, however thinking at this stage is still different to the way that adults think. Their thinking is not very systematic or logical (Wood, 2008 P.48). Piaget stressed that during the preoperational stage, children?s abilities are limited. One limitation is the inability to take the perspective of another individual, this is known as ?egocentrism? (Smith, Cowie, Blades 2011 P.390). A child may well presume that everyone has the same knowledge as they do without taking into consideration another person?s point of view. Throughout the concrete operational stage, which occurs between seven and twelve years of age, children begin to think logically. (Wood, 2008 P.47). Children at this stage are able to think logically about the world and gain the ability to manipulate their mental representations to think and solve problems. Children in this stage have an understanding of conservation. For example, if sand was poured from a tall thin container into a short wide container, they would understand that the quantity is the same as before. The last stage is the formal operational stage, which occurs during early adolescence. This is when cognitive development reaches its peak. According to Smith (2003), Piaget believed that individuals at this stage gain the ability to ?reason hypothetically? (Smith, Cowie, Blades, 2011 P.408). Each one of these ... • 50. Three Major Factors Of The European Colonies In The New World Beginning in the 17th century, European settlers began migrating and colonializing the New World discovered by Christopher Columbus, centuries earlier. The process of colonialization was brutal, it sparked native resistance, and overtime, created tension with Europe. There were several differences between the colonies that were established. However, the motivation to colonialize the New World remained the same for most colonies. Three major factors contributed to the beginning colonies in the 17th century; God, gold, and glory. Many issues were rising in Europe, including religious intolerance. Citizens were not free to worship whatever they pleased, they had to abide by the rules and laws of the Church. Political instability, and economic developments were also contributing factors to emigration. The promise of new gold and new trade also sparked interest amongst rulers. Recordings from earlier periods revealed new jewels that the Indigenous People owned. The small amount of writing from this period also suggests that rulers thought of new trade possibilities. Of course, the biggest factor was glory. Spain, Portugal, France, Britain, and other countries were constantly trying to compete for dominance. The thought of new territory to conquer and claim in the New World sparked major emigration. Global dominance and power was a goal that Europeans had in mind, and the New World was the promise land. English colonies could be categorized in three groups; royal colonies, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effective teachers allow students to constantly reflect on how they are doing in class and how they are meeting classroom goals. Assessment reflectionultimately influences how teachers and learners continue to access material. After teachers have tracked the data of students, it is then important that they are using a variety of instructional strategies to encourage learners to develop deep understanding of content areas. Standard 6 states that teachers should use a variety of assessments to ensure students are reaching their goals. My first piece of evidence includes three different assessments. Each assessment addresses a different kind of learner. For example, the first assessment is an exit ticket that allows me to see how students have grasped information at the end of the period. The last assessment I have included is a writing assessment. After students took the writing assessment, I then recorded their writing scores as demonstrated in my second piece of evidence. I carefully monitor both my student s reading and writing progress. In order to engage my students in their own own growth, I provide ample opportunities for students to ... • 52. Free Will And Free Choice Freedom of Will The alarm clock sounds, you get up and stand before your wardrobe, facing a decision. The white shirt or the blue, both clean, both equally nice, but it is still an easy decision. The blue. You revel in your creativity and ready yourself for the day to come. The freedom you have always known permitted the choice, your free will grants you this privilege. Or does it? Free will is a false concept often confused with free choice. Free will does not truly exist, the limitations set by nature and the influence of other people hinder the ability to choose without the impact of past experiences. As Barbara Smoker, a British Humanist activist and freethought advocate stated, Free choice means you are not forced by other people or what is outside of you. Free will is the idea that you are not programmed by past and present circumstances to do what you do now, (1). We as human beings are naturally reliant on other human beings for our daily dose of interaction. This is where the magic begins. Everyone has an opinion, everyone has criticism, and everyone has different likes and dislikes, however they are not our own. Most of our childhood experiences shape the people we become. For example, if you had a dog instead of a cat, and that dog was fairly well behaved, you are likely to prefer dogs to cats when you grow older. Or, if you had a dog and it was not well behaved, it is likely you will grow to dislike either the breed or dogs in general. Our opinions and our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
