2. What IWill Be LookingAt
■ I will be looking at the codes and conventions of editing within three
differentTV Dramas.
■ I will be looking at the editing techniques that are used within each clip.
As well as the pace/tempo of each clip.
4. EastEnders
■ The fistTV drama I will be looking at is EastEnders.
■ I watched the clip from 0:00 to 5:03.
5. EastEnders
■ A match cut was used in the first conversation, this showed the audience the two people
that were talking and this shows the audience that there is a strong continuity of action.
After the conversation there was a jump cut to the next scene.
■ Within the next scene there were line cuts in the conversation that was between three
people, since the start of the clip to the end of the second scene the pace of it is smooth at
runs at a slow tempo.
■ Can be invisible editing between scenes if the viewers become engrossed in theTV drama.
■ In pub scene there was a lot of line cuts to show the audience all of the conversations that
were happening, also when the goose is brought into the pub the length of the clips
became shorter, as they start to build up a slight argument.
■ Jump cut to the next scene. Length of the scenes start to become a bit longer again when
the scene changes, more match cuts are used within the conversation.
6. The Bill
■ The secondTV Drama I will be looking at isThe Bill.
■ I watched from 21:40 to 26:43
■ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3CnWQ5gKnM
7. The Bill
■ For the first 20 seconds of the clip the pace is very slow and no editing is used, as it is one
long clip. Then in the second conversation that happens line cuts are used so that the
audience can see both of the people talking. After the conversation there is a jump cut to
the next scene in the hospital room.
■ When the conversation happens between the three people they use line cuts to carry the
story along. As the two police are walking through the hospital there are jump cuts used as
they go through the door and carry on their conversation, however if the audience are
engrossed in the clip it can come across as invisible editing. Jump cut to the police cell.
■ When the policewoman has a conversation with the man in the cell there are line cuts used
within the conversation switching camera angles. After the conversation there was a jump
cut to the police woman walking down the corridor.
■ Jump cut used to the scene in the office. When the police are looking at the computer a
match cut is used, this goes from the computer screen back to the polices faces.
8. DoctorWho
■ The finalTV Drama I will be looking at is DoctorWho.
■ I watched the clip from 10:20 to 15:30
■ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUz6jEH1bsE
9. DoctorWho
■ As the woman is walking up the stairs the editing used is a line cut, it shows the
audience her going up the stairs in a flowing motion. When she bumps into the little
boy there is a short match cut whilst they are having a conversation.
■ Jump cut to the next scene of the woman walking in a dark room, more line cuts used
as she is walking through the flat, the tempo is slow and the clips are quite long.
■ If the audience become engrossed in the clip, when switching between scenes it could
seem like invisible editing as it seem so smooth. More line cuts are used as the group
of people are walking through the building and talking to each other.
