2. When Creating a FilmThere are 12
Different StagesWhich are;
1. The idea.
2. Development finance.
3. Script development.
4. Packaging.
5. Financing.
6. Pre-production.
7. The shoot.
8. Post production.
9. Sales.
10. Marketing.
11. Expedition.
12. Other windows.
3. The Idea
■ The first stage in making a film is the
idea, most people are inspired to
make their storylines. Inspiration is
everywhere, books, magazines,
newspapers and all around everyone.
■ When I created my film I created a
treatment. I got my inspiration from
the filmTexas Chainsaw, using the
masked murderer. I created the
treatment on the 20/12/2014 and
completed it on the 21/12/2014.
4. Development Finance
■ For the rough idea to turn into a final
script that is ready for production,
you will need to get money. The
producer has to use the treatment
and the pitch to persuade to get
money for the development of the
script.
■ I didn’t need money for the
production of my script, this is
because my film was a low budget
short film.
5. Script Development
■ Once the development finance is
secured the writer creates a rough
script in which once written the
producer and the writer agree and
disagree on the key events that
should take place, which will help for
a final script to be produced.
■ For my script production I created a
rough script on the 22/12/2014 and
was able to get a final script
completed and ready for the
27/12/2014.
6. Packaging
■ Once the script is complete the
director and producer choose how
they would like to film the movie.
For the film to become an actual
business proposition, the producer
will need to know how much the film
is actually going to cost.
■ As my film was low budget I didn’t
have to spend any money to create
my film.
7. Financing
■ Because film making is expensive,
the producer must be able to secure
enough funding so that they can
make their film to the highest
possible standard. Sometimes
producers have to travel around the
world as financers can be found
anywhere.
■ I didn’t need any financing because
my film was a low budget film.
8. Pre-production
■ Once the financing is secured, the
cast and crew can be hired. This
means that the pre-production can
start and the film can begin
shooting.
■ I managed to complete the rest of
my pre-production before I started
filming. I conducted a risk
assessment for where I was filming
on the 31/12/2014. And I also
completed my contingency on the
03/01/2015.
9. The Shoot
■ A large film usually involves
hundreds of people, this can mean
that there is a constant struggle to
keep things on schedule and to
budget. The shoot is the key stage in
film making.
■ It took me just over two months to
film my short film, I started filming
on the 10/01/2015 and finished on
the 15/03/2015.
10. Post Production
■ Post production begins during the
shoot when the fist of the footage
and sounds are available.As more
footage comes in the editors are able
to create scenes which can then be
put together to created the final
film.
■ I started editing a month into the
filming period on the 10/02/2015 and
I finished editing and putting the
final pieces in on the 12/04/2015.
11. Sales
■ Once the shoot is finished and the
film is still in post production the
producer is already trying to sell the
film. However it cannot yet be sold
to the public, as the film needs to be
sold to a distributor.
12. Marketing
■ As the final touches are being made
to the film, the distributors are
creating a plan on how they are
going to market and sell the film.
The marketing team will run test
screening to see how the film is
received to the audience.
13. Expedition
■ Cinema expedition is the primary
source for films to reach the
audience and box office success.A
high profile star filled film premier is
used to launch a film to the public,
which will be shown across all
medias.
14. OtherWindows
■ If the film is successful within the
cinemas, the public will want more.
This can then be sold to the public as
DVD’s, games and merchandise for
the film.As well by selling the film
for hotel channels and in flight
entertainment can also bring in
millions of additional revenue.
