Teacher Stance
• Classroom situation with a diverse group
• Telling solutions or concrete facts
• Give Knowledge to a group or to an individual as a form of mentoring
Being Better Teacher
• Different people learn differently, be prepared to teach the same thing in multiple
ways.
• If comfortable, consider putting exercises before lecture – gives more freedom for
students to explore.
• Make room for practical – real world exercises – whenever possible. They are stickier
and help students apply subject in class.

Mentor Stance
• Give advice but be aware of ownership.
• Telling solutions
• Give knowledge to an individual as a form of mentoring
Being Better Mentor
• Mentor only with permission
• Set a goal and choose a real problem
• Partner in solving the problem – consider pairing.
• Be prepared with references and more to read and study
• Ending with actions and checking in later
• What else?

  1. After two minutes ask What did you see? What type of elephant was that? What is the elephant color? Which presepective did you see the elephant? Did you name the elephant? Is there anything else about that elephant?
  2. Although we have the same input but we all preseve it in a different way. What did you notice me do as a coach? Introduce listening and how important it is. Introduce presence and being “fully there” for the coachee. What about repetition?
