This document discusses the collaboration journey that led to the merger of the regional and local volunteering infrastructure organizations in Northern Ireland to form Volunteer Now. It describes the drivers for change including a need to respond to an evaluation, consider the roles and services provided, and integrate organizations. It outlines lessons learned in the process such as ensuring drivers are compelling, involving stakeholders, and acknowledging values barriers. Finally, it discusses the building blocks that made collaboration real including leadership, consensus on vision, implementation support, and attention to culture through the transition.
