This session will focus on how taking a holistic systems approach to healthcare can be integrated with a systems approach to community and economic development to help transform communities and regions for improving well-being. This includes building capacities for education, entrepreneurship, workforce development, and innovation through adaptive planning and doing. Our approach to the session will be based on our work as collaborators with Communities of the Future and our respective roles and experience in healthcare and economic development. The session will be designed to present core concepts and context, answer questions, and engage participants in collaborative exercise. We will provide specific examples of how healthcare and economic and community well-being are highly connected in rural areas and what can be done through an integrated systems approach to improve community outcomes. We will draw from our collective research and experience in healthcare and economic development.Collaborative working and mergers session
Collaborative working within the voluntary and community sector can take various forms, ranging from informal cooperation to formal mergers. Survey data found that many organizations currently work with others on projects, with a mix of formal and informal partnerships. However, risks also exist such as outcomes not justifying resources, loss of flexibility or autonomy, and damage to organizations if collaboration is not successful. Five separate Home-Start charities in Norfolk providing family support services were individually funded but the local funding body, NCC, would only fund one organization and required consolidated reporting. The charities began collaborating in 2014-15 to secure funding but NCC withdrew funding in 2017. Trustees chose to merge the charities into a single organization, Home-Start Norfolk. A CEO was hired in late 2016 to lead the merger implementation which was completed by the April 1, 2017 deadline through staff restructuring, legal processes, and merging systems and procedures, though integration remained ongoing. Riding the waves - strengthening organisational resilience
This document discusses organizational resilience in local councils and how to strengthen it. It defines resilience as having three capabilities: absorbative to adapt during shocks, adaptive to make incremental changes, and anticipatory to prepare for future disruptions. Impact of Personal Budgets in Adult Social - final report
In 2008, Essex County Council (ECC) commissioned ecdp and OPM to follow people over 3 years as they use cash payments for adult social care within Essex.
This study provides a unique opportunity to fully understand the experiences of people living with a personal budget over this time - a perspective that is often overlooked.
This is the full report that contains findings from the third and final round of research with service users, frontline practitioners and providers in Essex who are working to facilitate self-directed support across the county.

COVID-19 has seriously tested the resiliency and sustainability of organisations, especially those in the nonprofit sector. The pandemic has further exacerbated their already precarious state and many Civil society organisations (CSOs) are under immense pressure to operate, survive, and thrive, while maintaining independence and continually generating funds to pursue planned operations and command strong recognition and influence.
They have been forced to adapt or to abandon the game, to face adversity through innovation or to fail while trying. Organisational and individual preparedness to manage change was tested also and many had to unlearn and relearn, to find new ways of working and developing resilience amidst the pandemic.
Since financing is a key pillar of organizational sustainability, I was invited to strengthen participants understanding, knowledge and practice in mobilizing resources more creatively. Aside the traditional channel of funding, there are 12 proven models of mobilizing resources for any civil society organisations in Africa, no matter its size, staff or strength.

CommunitySupport Fund guidance notes, July 2012
