WHAT IS
HEAT
EXCHANGER?
A heat exchanger is a device
used to transfer heat between
one or more fluids. The fluids
may be separated by a solid wall
to prevent mixing or they may
be in direct contact. They are
widely used in space
heating, refrigeration, air
conditioning, power
stations, chemical
plants, petrochemical
plants, petroleum
refineries, natural-gas
processing, and sewage
treatment. The classic example
of a heat exchanger is found in
an internal combustion engine
in which a circulating fluid
known as engine coolant flows
through radiator coils and
air flows past the coils, which
cools the coolant and heats the
incoming air.

Regenerative
heat exchanger
A regenerative heat
exchanger, or more
commonly
a regenerator, is a
type of heat exchanger
where heat from the hot
fluid is intermittently
stored in a thermal
storage medium before
it is transferred to the
cold fluid. To
accomplish this the hot
fluid is brought into
contact with the heat
storage medium, then
the fluid is displaced
with the cold fluid,
which absorbs the head

recuperate is a special
purpose counter-
flow energy
recovery heat
exchanger positioned
within the supply and
exhaust air streams of
an air handling system,
or in the exhaust gases
of an industrial process,
in order to recover
the waste heat. The

TUBE TYPE HEA
T EXCHANGER
As its name implies,
this type of heat
exchanger consists
of a shell (a large
pressure vessel) with a
bundle of tubes inside
it. One fluid runs
through the tubes, and
another fluid flows over
the tubes (through
the shell) to transfer
heat between the two
fluid
EVOPARATOR
An evaporator is a
device used to turn the
liquid form of a
chemical into its
gaseous form. The
liquid is evaporated, or
vaporized, into a gas.
CONDENSER
In systems involving
heat transfer,
a condenser is a
device or unit used to
condense a substance
from its gaseous to its
liquid state, by cooling
it.

  • 3. WHAT IS HEAT EXCHANGER? A heat exchanger is a device used to transfer heat between one or more fluids. The fluids may be separated by a solid wall to prevent mixing or they may be in direct contact. They are widely used in space heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, power stations, chemical plants, petrochemical plants, petroleum refineries, natural-gas processing, and sewage treatment. The classic example of a heat exchanger is found in an internal combustion engine in which a circulating fluid known as engine coolant flows through radiator coils and air flows past the coils, which cools the coolant and heats the incoming air.
