Editor's Notes

  • #12 Open Enterprise Server is a bundle of high-value networking, storage and print services that are optimized to run on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. You can see that we still are shipping a NetWare bare-metal install option, but not all of the most valuable services are available on that kernel. Domain Services for Windows, Dynamic Storage Technology, Virtualization, and the easy upgrade tools can only be used when deploying on SUSE Linux Enterprise. However all the critical tools you are familiar with, and have relied on for years with NetWare, are now available for you to use on Linux. And with the same skill sets you already have in your environment.

  • #18 Dynamic Storage Technologies provides: Automated policies to relocate infrequently used unstructured files to a low cost storage device Policies based on: Age of file Size of file File type File owner Merged view of information automatically provided for the end user Administrators can maintain separate backup/restore policies for frequently and infrequently used information Can partition files based on “need to backup” Primary area for “important” dynamic data Secondary area for “less–important” static data Can have different backup policies for each tree “ Important” data backed up more frequently Primary backups are smaller Primary backups run faster and use less storage (tape, etc.) Primary restores faster
  • #25 Note - NCP fix is needed for any accurate Trustee auditing. The fix is only given to the third parties and one customer thus far. If a customer needs it before it is released they must talk with Kent Boogert and/or PM.
  • #38 Remote Office Appliance DSFW Novell CIFS Integration DNS on ADC, Removal of Partition Boundary limitation, Windows 2008 as a member server Novell CIFS NTLMv2, Kerberos Support, Domain pass through authentication OpenSLP integrated into eDirectory DHCP - View of Leases in Java Console DST Enhancements - Novell CIFS Support Quick Finder - Support for MS office 2007 iFolder Restore tool of backed up encrypted and unencrypted folders Slave to Master upgrade
  • #39 What is Remote Office Appliance ? OES2 Linux based Branch Office Server Appliance. Centrally deploy and manage servers in remote branch office sites Provides Centralized user, server, workstation, and desktop application deployment, patching and administration. Benefits Provide IT services to remote sites without large full time IT staff Full remote administration. Works efficiently in bandwidth constrained WAN environments. Easily deploy and manage servers to remote sites Standard hardware and Software configurations. Deployments can be maintained across Remote sites Enforce build standards for servers and workstations Remote server and workstation patching Components and Capabilities Image creation, deployment, recovery Configuration of services like eDirectory and DSfW Data replication capability to the Central Server (CMD)
  • #47 Simplified deployment and management: We will provide more flexible deployment options through virtual appliances, implementing the OES services. These will also come with new and more effective management tools. Integration with Workgroup Collaboration products Remote Office services provide a solution that allows the simplified deployment, support and management of many remote sites from a central location. So that you feel confident rolling OES into your remote offices!! SLES 11 support and component updates Web 2.0 File experience for OES File users: You have heard a lot about these exciting and new collaboration services that I have been talking about - The great thing is that OES customers will benefit from these great innovations.. Future Content Services in OES and project “Cockpit” will help "Turn your Files into Conversations"...
  • #53 If you are still using NetWare, only Novell provides you with a viable and cost-effective upgrade path, which allows you to leverage current investments and skills. Open Enterprise Server on Linux provides all the services you have relied on, all enhanced on the Linux platform. But why should you be so excited about that? SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is the most interoperable platform for mission-critical computing—both physical and virtual. As you embrace this platform for your workgroup collaboration services, you're investing in opportunities for further cost-savings and optimizations in your environment. * Leverage the ecosystem of ISVs/IHVs supporting SUSE Linux Enterprise (this didn't exist for NetWare) * You can consolidate any workload on SLES – even Windows workloads. * Leverage Novell's workload management capabilities In addition, you have actually started to implement the Novell Open Collaboration Architecture. You are building the back-end for your future collaboration needs. Equally important, we have also made migration tools, best practices and upgrade guides available, to facilitate your move to Linux.
