Setting Up a Hybrid Domino Environment to Ease your Way to the CloudGabriella Davis
Are you looking at Cloud options and wondering how and if you can get there from where you are? If you have Domino on premises and are considering Cloud then a good option is a hybrid architecture which maintains all your on premises configuration managed by your own administrators but adds Cloud client access managed by IBM. We will look at how simple it is to create this hybrid solution using Domino passthru servers and review how things like user and directory maintenance, client access and mail routing will then work. From Domino Admin to Domino Hybrid Admin in a few simple steps.

For organizations looking to eliminate the Novell client, this session provides a detailed look at what's required to meet that goal. We'll discuss the pros and cons of the Novell client and any pitfalls that eliminating it might create for other Novell products. We'll also show you the significance of Domain Services for Windows and how it can co-exist with a Microsoft Active Directory infrastructure. We'll even perform a test implementation and review what tools are used to manage the mixed environment.
Group of independent servers interconnected through a dedicated network to work as one centralized data processing resource.
Clusters are capable of performing multiple complex instructions by distributing workload across all connected servers.
Clustering improves the system's availability to users, its aggregate performance, and overall tolerance to faults and component failures.
In this session from MWLUG 2017 I introduce the concepts of containerisation and discuss Docker architecture, design, deployment considerations and risks.
Compare Clustering Methods for MS SQL ServerAlexDepo
Clustering is very important technology for High Availability and it is important for DBA to understand benefits and pitfalls. With very few available techniques and a lot of gray areas right decision might help to avoid extra costs. Presentation is unveiling clustering basics, reviews and compares clustering technologies including Microsoft, XCOTO Gridscale, and HP PolyserveMatrix. This presentation can be helpful not only to beginners but to intermediate level DBAs and infrastructure managers.

Syntergy upgrade open text content server with replicator - 7-3-2016Vijay Sharma
The Smart Way to Upgrade Content Server - Zero Downtime, Single Hop - In our experience, production outages, disruptions and resource availability are major barriers to organizations performing a timely Livelink or Content Server upgrade to the latest releases of OpenText Content Server 10.X & 16.
Over a number of years, Syntergy has developed a proven upgrade methodology which includes the use of the Syntergy's Replicator for OpenText Content Server software. This approach gives you the capability to perform upgrades directly from older versions of Livelink and Content Server to the latest releases in a Single Hop (no need up "hop" through multiple version upgrades) with Zero Downtime

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
"Impact of front-end architecture on development cost", Viktor TurskyiFwdays
I have heard many times that architecture is not important for the front-end. Also, many times I have seen how developers implement features on the front-end just following the standard rules for a framework and think that this is enough to successfully launch the project, and then the project fails. How to prevent this and what approach to choose? I have launched dozens of complex projects and during the talk we will analyze which approaches have worked for me and which have not.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

/dnsnames for iPrint to convert used IP addresses of printers do dns names -> Problem after migration to OES2 the workstations still want to print to the ipp://10.10.10.10 address !! - disable quota in nss /noquota... for the migration (100MB quota on directory -> but 10GB already in there -> so you can't migrate due to the quota limit if parameter not used)
