This document discusses how spatial data analytics and mapping can help manage cities in the digital age. It provides examples of how remote sensing, mobile data, and other sensors are creating big data that can help address urban challenges if properly leveraged by government agencies. Specifically, it analyzes Bengaluru's rapid growth rate, loss of water resources, urban heat island effect, and mismatch between service provider boundaries to demonstrate the potential of spatial data and analytics. Visualizations of municipal information and metrics like public access to transit are presented as well. Opportunities and challenges around business models, data access, regulations, and scaling solutions are highlighted for discussion.
