Moreton Bay College is a P-12 Girls’ School on the eastern outskirts of Brisbane. Three years ago the decision was taken at executive level that filtering was not the solution to our students’ cybersafety. In fact, stringent filtering was proving counter productive, as many new and potentially useful Web 2.0 sites were being blocked. The proliferation of 3G devices and the constant battle against proxy bypass sites also meant that filtering as a solution was doomed to failure. This presentation will look at the steps the school has taken to foster a climate of digital citizenship with its students inpreparation for the schools’ 1-to-1 implementation that began this year.

Social Media in Business - Best Practice for EntrepreneursAmar Trivedi
On Thursday 5 April, 2012, I was invited by the New Zealand Centre for Social Innovation (NZCSI) as a Social Media - Expert Witness to present to the Class of 2012 at Social Entrepreneurs School (SES) at Ko Awatea Centre, Auckland.
I had the honour of giving an introductory 90 minute session on Social Media in Business - Best Practice for Entrepreneurs. I titled it Social Media for SOLO-preneurs i.e. entrepreneurs (usually 1-2 person teams) armed with heaps of passion and a business plan to go with it.
I created this presentation mainly in the hope it inspires small businesses and professionals to get started, have a play and explore the vast possibilities (or switch up a marketing gear and take it up a notch or two) with social media.
Q - Who is a Social Entrepreneur?
A - "Social entrepreneurs act as the change agents for communities and society, developing ideas and new approaches, creating and implementing solutions to social problems that change society for the better."
One year ago I posted, "10 Social Media Best Practices in Higher Education" which has proven to be one of my most popular posts. This is not surprising, as many of my campus speaking engagements include covering such topics.
This top 10 list includes:
Implement a Social Media Strategy
Produce Quality & Accurate Content
Manage Platforms with Social Media Managers and Student Leaders
Use an Authentic and Transparent Voice
Represent the University/Division/Department Brand and University Resources
Collaborate and Support other University Social Media Pages
Respect Your Community
Dive into Data
Empower Influencers and Engage Audience
Get Internal Buy-In
Social media exists in the gray, so even these best practices could be scrutinized. Whatever your perspective, higher education needs more tools to aid in strategy development, especially since social media platforms change constantly.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
